Experience with quit smoking pill chantix ? -

I desperately need to quit smoking..Has anyone used chantix ? Please tell me your experience with it..
I once quit using wellbutrin, it made it easier...This time I don-t have the will power but I need to quit...Thanks in advance :-)
I was a smoker for years...2 packs a day. I went on Chantix in July of this year and was smoke free in two months. The good part of Chantix is you smoke while you are taking it. After awhile, the cigarettes taste terrible and smell even worse. You no longer desire a cigarette. I did have vivid dreams ( no nightmares) and I did feel nauseated if I didn-t eat before I took the pill, but it is nothing I could not deal with. I never thought in my life it would be this easy. So, if you are serious about quitting, please try Chantix. It is expensive, but it is worth it. I wish you all the luck in the world.
One thing with chantix, if you experience any mood swings, feelings of depression, or anything similar then STOP TAKING IT STRAIGHT AWAY.

There are a disturbingly high number of people who have either gone completely off the rails or actually committed suicide while taking it.

How long after you quit smoking is nicotine present? -

3 days after that it is the mental habbit you must quit. the nicotine will be out of your system but after it leaves your body will begin to clean itself out. your lungs will be full of loose crap for a few weeks bad at first then gets better with time. Hypnosos does help with regards to redirecting your thinking and not allowing your mind to wonder in the direction of a cigarette

Have you ever tried to quit smoking? -

What method did you use and how long did you stay quit?
I started smoking when I was about 19. I-ve quit off and on over the last ten or more years. I quit again last August cold turkey and have not had a cigarette or a desire to smoke since. It-s all mind over matter. When you-re ready to quit, you just do.
I started smoking at 17 and was smoking 20 a day by the time I was 21. I tried to quit for a boyfriend but the problem was that I was doing it for him, not me. Every time we split up or I was annoyed with him, I would smoke. Eventually he was off the scene and I was smoking again - mid 20s by this stage. Then I gave up for me. Motivation was adoption of a healthier lifestyle and it didn-t feel right before or after exercising so I wasn-t inclined to smoke. Still smoked when out at night drinking. Followed this pattern for a few years. Then got self destructive and smoked full time again for years. Each time I started again though I smoked less. Eventually, I didn-t enjoy smoking and it pretty much petered out. Been clean for years now. For the first time not even smoking when on a big night out. Dirty filthy nasty little cancer sticks. Expensive smelly antisocial. Glad hubby has now stopped as well. Don-t know what my lesson for you is. I think I just stopped because I didn-t want to any more. Hope you find something that works for you.
Well im just kid and i don-t smoke and don-t plan on it but my mom did. She used the proscription drug Chantix. She also chewed alot of chewing gum to keep her mouth busy. It Worked really well for her.

My Grandad had a heart attack and has quit smoking , how can i support him quitting as it must be hard for him -

just spend some time with him, talk to him about stuff, anything that will take his mind off smoking.
I am a 49 yr old woman that stopped smoking on June 2, 2008. I-ve been using the Nicotrol Nasal Spray but of course, it is still very difficult. What I need and don-t have are people to support me - I turn to the internet sites on quit smoking for support. How wonderful that you are eager to help your Grandad! Be a cheerleader in his corner - praise him and most of all be a listener. Just him knowing that you are rooting for him and are there to be a sounding board are excellent ways to help him.
Knowing that you care will be a huge benefit to your Grandad

One thing you can do is to show him this website:
http://www.smart-heart-living.com/index.…

It was created for those wanting to live successfully with heart disease. It has lots of resources and information. Under Risk Factors there is a page on quitting smoking.

Good luck to you and your Grandad!

What are some things you can do to help quit smoking? -

What I did was get the Patch. Once you have that on they warn you if you smoke a cigarette you could have a heart attack. Once I put that thing on I stayed away for fear of my life. (I-m being over-dramatic, yet also truthful).
After 13 years of smoking it took 8 days with the patch and I never had one since. That was 1 year 45 days ago. It worked for me, never thought it would, but it did. The patch can be worn much longer than that if needed as well. I-m now a nurse, just graduated and in classes it was pointed out that just about every single problem we have can be attributed in part or full to smoking. From the speed our hair grows to the color of our skin. (And of course all the health problems)

Good luck! I still think about that cigarette, but the craving is gone. It-s more because I enjoyed it and it helped me relax.

PS: Before that I quit 3 times cold turkey, but that was because I was pregnant. I don-t suggest that route...lol
That-s a tough one. You probably know about the patches, gum, lollipops (need prescription; butterscotch tastes best), hypnosis, and going cold turkey. Finding another addiction can help, like jogging. Thinking of the rising price of a pack of smokes might help, or maybe you can find a way to see, up close and personal, a blackened lung from a cadaver.

I quit cold turkey after I found out I was pregnant, many years ago. My kids- dad has tried to stop but then started smoking again many times, trying most of the above. I think having a buddy to quit with is worth a try, because you can feel the pain together.
I quit in 1992...cold...stopped. I gained 100 lbs and only lost it now 17 years later. So my suggestion is to replace smoking with something besides food.

Get exercise every day (not much, 30 minutes on a cycle, treadmill, or something like that.) Chew sugarless gum. Get a hobby for your hands (they are just as addicted to the physical action of smoking as your brain is to the nicotine.)

It-s hard, but completely possible and worth it. Good luck!
i-ve never smoked, but I have dealt with other addictions, It-s hard for me to say, but in general here is one important piece of advice that helps overcome any addiction. Find someone who-s oppionion you care about, and every time you have the desire to smoke, tell that person, and have them talk to you and give you strength. Your less likely to do something if you know you will have to report to someone about it.
No person can beat their own weaknesses alone, it takes emotional support from other people who care.
Living in Iowa- with the cost rising- the Fire Resistant strips in the tar sticks....I still have a problem quitting...Not a damned good thing about them, either....Good luck!
LMAO at The Heckler....that -cold turkey- bit was funny!

But seriously....my mom quit cold turkey about 18 years ago and if she can do it....anyone can try. :)
I quit cold turkey...... i still smoke but, i don-t eat cold turkey!
stay busy, that way ull think about smoking a bit less ....
that might help...
Chew that Nickorete gum.
If you find something that works let me know

Does anyone have any tips on how to quit smoking cold turkey? -

Does anyone have any tips on how to quit smoking cold turkey? -

quitting when things are good in your life is a good time. other than that, there really aren-t any tips other than to resist the urge. the more you try to quit, the more likely you will be successful at quitting. oh, and gum doesn-t always help, nor does the patch, etc. so, yes, cold turkey is usually the way to go. try quitting on a relaxing vacation. that is what i did - i have been smoke free for 4-5 months. ok, so i had 2 in that time, but they made me not want anymore.

oh yeah, and it isn-t always about the chemical withdrawal... for me it was all about the habbit - -breaks- from everyday life that were the toughest to conquer. the whole -buying other brands- doesn-t work either. that isn-t quitting cold turkey anyhow.

good luck - if at first you don-t succeed, try - try again... and again...
First, accept that you will never -not want a cigarette- and realize that it will be a lifelong temptation that you will have to resist.

Second, make small changes to your everyday routine that involved places and times you always smoked (I smoked when I put my makeup on in the morning, so I started putting my makeup on in another room with no ashtray...the hardest was not smoking while I drove).

Third, don-t expect other people not to smoke around you. That-s a cop out. You are quitting for you, and only you can quit smoking.

Fourth, learn a replacement behavior. Try not to make it eating (just an oral stimulation replacement). Maybe go for a walk, learn to knit, something to retrain your mind from wanting a cigarette.

Fifth, start taking deep cleansing breaths and visualize the clean air helping to cleanse and heal your dirty, clogged lungs.

Sixth, keep track on a piece of paper how much money you saved every day by not buying cigarettes - it will add up quick!

Seventh, look into the future and see yourself as a non-smoker. You won-t have to stand out in the cold or heat to smoke because it is so socially unacceptable.

Good luck from a former 2 1/2 pack a day Winston smoker. I haven-t smoked in 9 years. The biggest reason I won-t start again is because quitting is hard!
Just be REALLY determined!!! Only you can do it and as the days, weeks ,months pass keep congratulating yourself . I am now 5months cigarette free and so happy about it. I don-t pretend it is easy but it gets better! Keep busy, spare time is difficult cos you want one so much!
Good Luck!
I have tried many times and just restarted. I have tried everything even smoke away last week. I quit for 12 years many years ago and started back after me and my wife broke up. I have not been able to quit after that. I have too many problems with my job and women. It seems to be my way to get away from it all.

So life has to be in good order and you have to just simply pick a day and be strong and quit. I was able to quit for about 4 months a couple of years ago. But that was because I got sick for a week and did not smoke because I did notwant to smoke while I was sick and just did not smoke after I got better. Then I started back. The want for a smoke is all ways with you after you quit no matter how long it has been.
Have a friend drop u off in the woods for 2 weeks with no smokes and no way to get them.
Information that iv been taught is that it only takes 72 hours for all the chemicals to get out of your system, after that it is all mental you just have to learn tech. to deal with the cravings
Smoke ham instead.
Wellbutrin.
Stops the cravings by the end of the first or second day. Helped my wife, twice.
I know what you-re saying. Why twice? The first time was so easy to quit, she didn-t respect it. She figured she could take a puff here, smoke while drinking there, but she woke the dragon and started back again. Then, she had to visit her doc and get the Welbutrin, again.
Now, she is back on the wagon.
yes its simple buy a brand of cigs u dont like i mean realy hate the **** or buy one u like the least eat soomthin u hate then smoke itll cause u to get a perm bad taste whn u think of cigs plus throw all ur cigs out dont lock them up dont hide them throw them the **** out ill wait.......................done it yet..............gooood no buy candy cigs a **** load of them everytime u get a craving stick it in ur mouth like its a cig and get the patch and get pictures

http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10…

Good! I-m glad you-ve decided to stop. Cold turkey is the best way. I stopped that way, but did it with a friend who also wanted to stop, so we did it together. We were each others support system. If you have a friend that smokes that also wants to stop you can confer with him and see if he would like to stop together. Just an idea. I-ve been smoke-free for 14 years now after smoking for 24 years. It is so worth it!

Once you-ve actually stopped, brushing your teeth every time you get a craving is good and also drinking loads of water and walking and taking cold showers is also good ways to divert your cravings.
i am very happy to say that i just did. this is what i did. tell your self I DON-T SMOKE. and mean it. evey time you want on say it. go places that you can-t smoke in, like schools malls, so on. when others ask say the same thing I DON-T SOMKE. good luck.
Start smoking cigarettes and try eating your cold turkey instead of smoking it

im trien to quit smoking but like i like being high, but i also want to go back to school and get a new job, any ideas on how to get my mind of the budda
You may want to take passionflower. It has been used in India for all type addiction even Cocaine with great results. It is also effective for addictions because it is an anti-anxiety.

It is readily available and is on th e GRAS list as safe. It can be taken in high doses with no side effects.

Can be found at any health food store.
Why would you want to quit? My bf smokes alot and has a great job. If you stay focused it wont hurt your studies. It will make you study more!!
Well, you could check out the therapy route, which is what I would suggest, but if you just can-t bring yourself to see a therapist, I-d suggest that you rid your home of anything that reminds you of your habit and stop hanging out w/ people who-re still using. Basically, make it as hard as possible for yourself to go back to using.

And, GOOD FOR YOU!!! I wish you all the luck in the world!
it is called self-control and self-discipline. Get your fuzzy butt out of the chair, put the bong down in the trash, and get your sh*t together.
Don-t buy it!!!!
Dude, you can keep smoking and at least go back to school. The job thing is not so sure of, because of those damn drug tests. But get a job at like McDonalds or something I am sure they dont give drug tests. Freakin light one up for me.
good for you... you just took the first step, try a rehab program... they can help you with this... talk to others for support too... and sometimes (i know it-s sad) but change your friends to non-pot smokers... this helps lower your chances of smoking and also increases your fun other ways so you forget about it
Ask Ricky Williams how he stopped. LOL
If you can stay sober LONG enough for all the stuff you let slide catch up, you will find out that you like yourself better SOBER.

Being sober is only a hassle at first because you wind up facing the responsibilities you-ve let slide.

Get to know yourself... you have to be SOBER to do that.

God doesn-t make junk; you are more special than you give yourself credit for.

Try meditation to relax.... no negative side effects and you will pass every drug test.

You may have to change your environment - friends to get away from the drugs.... (they are NOT your responsibility)

Today is the first day of the rest of your life... make the most of it. You can be anything you choose, with God.

You will be surprised at how great you are, if you would just stay sober long enough to find out!

Blessings to you.
yeah. you know what you do? you sit there and remind yourself of all you-re going to miss one day when the crap kills ya. cuz drs have found out that you can get addicted hard core to this stuff...and it can lead to death if not stopped. from what i know of it. so think about your future. job, family, wife...all that you-ll miss if you die from the drugs or dont- get off of them now.

Can someone give me some advice on how to quit smoking please? -

Hi everyone my name is Josh and i am 15 years old and i have been smoking for four to five months. My friends got me into it though i should of been stronger and said no but i want out of this horrible mess. I also have been smoking weed for 3 months on and off the weed isn-t a problem to quit to be honest tobacco is my problem.

anyone give me advice? im also a boxer i know i shouldn-t be smoking because im a boxer and its a horrible addiction that-s why i`m here to stop (sorry for my spelling)
I started smoking when I was about the same age as you. I kicked the habit 20 odd years later. How ? um.. simple. I sat down and worked out how much money I had burned just by smoking. The figure was scary. At today-s prices 20 fags costs £5(roughly). I was smoking 20 a day for about 15 years, and at weekends this would climb to 30-40 a day. That means I was spending over £2000 a year on ciggies and across a 15 year period had blown at least £30K. Now there was a period when I smoked less - when I was starting. Let-s assume I did 5 a day. That-s still £500. Now you have to ask yourself, what could I spend £500 on? That-s the price of a holiday, or a new iPhone, or some decent clothes, I-m sure you can think of any number of things you could spend it on.

Got that image ? Right. Now you are going to get that item. Get yourself a jar. Chuck out all the ciggies you have left. Work out how many you were smoking a day. Let-s say it was 5. Every smoke free day, put £1.25 in the jar. At the end of the week, empty the jar. you now have a choice. You can spend that cash or put the money in a savings account. It-s up to you, but the important thing is, this is money you would otherwise have puffed up in smoke. You can use it to buy the things you-d really like. New ipod ? Nice mobile? Decent kit ? Xbox ?

Is it tough ? Yup. Especially if you have a long established routine associated with smoking.

Isn-t it easier to just cut down gradually ? Um... I tried that and it didn-t work for me. The way I see it, if you have a packet on you, there is the temptation to have one. No fags, can-t smoke.

What about patches or gum ? All the chewing gum and patches do is stop you sucking down tar into your lungs. Only your will power can make you stop. You could just be swapping lighting up for slapping another patch on.

Why do it ? Well apart from the cash side, you-ll feel better. If you are into sport, you will perform better too. Oh and your clothes won-t have that ashtray stink. Your breathe will smell nicer too. So you-ll find that girls will find you more attractive. Who wants to go out with someone who hums like an ashtray ???

Toughest part. Your mates who smoke. They will want to make you break. Ask yourself, who-s the mug, them for smoking or you for quitting ? What will they have at the end of a year ? Bad breath, smelly clothes, empty pockets and lack of fitness. What will you have ? Hmmmmm.. So if they offer a fag, just say no. If you want a cop out, then you could say -I haven-t got any to pay you back with- Nobody likes a scrounger. Worst case, find some new mates. In fact, you probably will anyway.

Good luck.
Hi Joshie,
There is really only one way to stop smoking, and that is to determine that you will not smoke again and stick to it. It is very difficult, as, when you have done something which puffs you out, a cigarette is just what you need. Try just taking a deep breath instead of a cigarette.

I know there are patches and gum to give you a dose of nicotine, but they are no real substitute, and may not reduce the craving for something in your mouth and hand.

The only real and lasting cure for smoking is will-power. Say to yourself, every morning when you get up, -I will not smoke today-, and stick to it.

I did this over 23 years ago, having smoked for 20 years, and I have not had one since.
your 15mate, this should not be a problem, just stop smoking its easy if youve only been doing it for a few months just through away the packet you have now and save your money for something you really want, this will prevent you buying more!
nicorette patches
chew gum - or just eat - something to do with ur mouth
and keep remebering u want to quit smoking

think of other things instead.

How to concentrate on work while quitting smoking? -

How to concentrate on work while quitting smoking? -

I just quit smoking and its finals week. So how do I become healthy and successful at the same time? I cant concentrate because the stress from quitting smoking is too harsh. But I dont want to give up.
Congrats on trying to quit. I quit smoking 5 1/2 weeks ago. No sure it will help but I will describe my experience.

I tried to use the patches over the course of the first 2 days at every level and they all made me physically sick. Symptoms included dizziness and nausea and a headache. I went to my doctor on the third day and she prescribed Zyban which is an antidepressant. After a day or so I definitely noticed it helping with the anxiety that quitting smoking was creating.

The first two and 1/2 weeks were pretty hard. I thought about smoking constantly - but the habit of it was the real problem. I was a chain smoker so everything I did reminded me of a cigarette. During the first 10 days I would cry for no reason and was just an over all wreck. I used blow pops, tootsie pops and hard candy suckers as a substitute. I didn-t care how silly I looked. In the beginning I went through 12 suckers, plus 1/2 pack a gum a day. Every day got easier. After about a week and a half I switched to jolly rancher hard candies.

After that 2 to 2 1/2 week mark every day got easier. Now I feel so incredibly better and am sooooo happy i went through all of it.

Also reward yourself everyday for not giving in. Even if it is just something small like dessert when you don-t normally.

In the short term: Surround yourself with supportive people. Keep away from smokers. Eat hard candy - stuff you can suck on not chew. Lasts longer. I used the blow pops cause they keeps your hands busy too. Remind yourself constantly why u are doing it. Try to relax - I know how hard it is. Scream or cry if you must. Try a smoking cessation aid like the patch, gum, or pill.

Good luck!!!
Have you tried anything to help. My hussband went on the welbutrin antidepressent and he-s not a medecine man, he just somoked for sooooo many yrs. that that was the only way we could stand it, he was even bad then but, he had a hard time like you. don-t give up on anything just try to get help. Use the patch or hard candies or anything just do not give up. Prayers coming your way. good night.
chew gum maybe it will help maybe it wont but dosent hurt to try

I want to quit smoking, I have been smoking since I was 11years old and I am now 48 ARGHHHHHH...
I smoke about a pack a day
I was wondering if anybody knows if a Dr. can prescribe something to help me quit, so my insurance will pay for it, I really can-t spend $40-$50 right now for nicorette or the patch. I have an appointment in a few hours and I don-t want to waste his time as well as mine.
My dear, there is one important thing you must not joke with in this life and the thing is to know God. If u knew that there is one supreme being, you would have known that even if a doctor can not prescribe any drug for u to quit smoking that God is able to do that. God is never happy when we are going astray and at the moment we long to return, He will help us. Just be serious, determine to quit then call on God for His help and you will be surprised to see that what u think that can not be done is not impossible for God to do only trust, believe and hope in Him. Make Him your friend and your problems will be solved in a twinkle of an eye.
leave it in one go if it is advisable
Go to Quitnet.com. A self help site for people who want to quit. I used to smoke 4 packs a day and this site was a big help. Just quit cold turkey. Two days and the physical addiction is OVER! Use cinnamon sticks as a crutch.
Pat
I had smoked from about 12 until I was 48 too. I had tried cold turkey, Nicorette gum, tranquilizers, hypnosis, and the patches. Then I had my larynx removed from cancer. I was hospitalized 10 days, 5 of which I was unconscious. When I came to, they said I could have a patch if I wanted one. I said no. I have been smoke free ever since.
if you want to leave this then when ever u feel like smoking you just eat a chocolate ,or count numbers
My wife smoked about 20 years. She quit because I asked her to. She just smoked fewer and fewer until she quit. The less you smoke, the less you need to. Limit yourself to 5 a day...then 3....then 1....then quit.
Believe it or not, this method works very well:

---Cold Turkey---

Linda...YOU CAN DO THIS!

Just make up your mind and do it!

You do not need a doctor to stop smoking.

All you have to do is stop smoking right now and throw away all cigarettes that you have left.

Most importantly, DO NOT TELL ANYONE that you have stopped smoking. Let your friends and family discover this by themselves. You will be surprised how long it is going to take them.
go to the appointment they have a pill that can help you and my mom tried it worked but then she got cancer and ironicly started up again but it worked for her and she was smoking for forever as well!!! GO TO THE APPOINTMENT!!!
Hey Linda,

Glad you have decided to quit. What worked for me was quitting over night. Smoked for a good 23 years - kept firming a date to get over it with. No patches, no rehab no nothing.......... just my determination - will to do it. Been six years now

Try................ sure if u stick to ur resolution, u can kick the habit - addiction.

Best of Luck
try self control with all your will power

www.allencarrseasyway.com

Good Luck!
That-s good. First by making your own decision. Then let your family be suprised of you.
nicotrol the little thing that you can inhale like a cigarette-and a anti-depressant-wellbutrin-the combination of both i hear works-but you have got to want to quit-cold turkey going on 2 yrs-i rather live than die so you choose
Good for you..better late than never...you can join a rehab...
i know this sounds crazy but one way that someone i know quit smoking is by eating tootsie pops. he always carried a bag of tootsie pops with him so whenever he felt like smoking he put the pop in his mouth instead and eventually he quit.
Your already 48 you shouldnt quit. Were all going to die anyway so what difference does it make if you stop smoking? Youd be getting cancer or any ailments so dont worry about quiting life is short If God wants to take us he-ll take us So lets smoke to that. Were burning away every minute of our life.

How can i quit smoking???? i quit for a while and then go back again!!!? -

how can i permanently quit!!!! i always quit for a week or 2 and go back ??? once wquit for 3 months but i smoked again.
Set up a stop date a few weeks in advance. This will give you enough time to prepare yourself for the upcoming changes. Moreover, this will allow you to start some medical treatment.

On your stop smoking day, throw away all your cigarettes. This will not only prevent easy access to cigarettes but also will have a huge psychological impact on you.

Avoid places and situations that would prompt you to lighting up a cigarette. For example if you light up your first cigarette with your morning coffee, replace it with herbal tea; avoid going to pubs or night clubs during your first ex-smoker weeks.

Get stop smoking aids after consulting with your doctor. Nicotine patches or gums may help you a lot in the smoking cessation process and relieve the withdrawal symptoms.

Start saving the money that you used to spend on cigarettes. You will soon discover that you have put aside enough to buy something nice for yourself.

Regular sports or physical activity will be beneficial to you. Start with long walks, buy a bike and cycle to your work or just for fun, rollerblade, or go swimming. Any physical activity is good and it is up to you to pick up the ones that most suit your personality. Sport will not only help improve your appearance but it will help your body detox and reduce both the cravings and the cessation symptoms. Consider completing a body detox program after you kick the habit, to finally rid your body of all of the harmful toxins.

Change your eating habits, eat more fresh fruits and vegetables, and drink a lot of liquids. A healthy diet will prevent you from gaining weight, and reduce the withdrawal symptoms.

Ask your family and friends to be supportive. The first week after you put away the cigarettes you will be nervous and irritable so it is vital that they understand your behavior and help you.

Set yourself up for success by devising rewards for yourself. For example “if I do not smoke for a couple of weeks I will buy ...” You can promise yourself a big prize if you manage not to smoke for three months - something like a vacation or a trip to an exotic place.

Be very patient and believe that you can do it.

The Bottom line of it all.. You must have a firm resolve in yourself that you want to quit... then do everything i said above.. If it still does not work, try to cut down cigarettes smoked by 2 sticks per day until you end up with none smoked.. It will prevent withdrawal symptoms... Good luck!!
Well my best friends dad recently stopped he had been smoking for AGES!! I think he just stopped. And also my mums best friend stopped and everytime she wanted a smoke she would have a lollipop. This helped and she eventually got off the lolly pop habit and then stopped altogether.

there are things on the market that is suppose to help you BUT I didn-t use any of them because of all the feedback I got from people who used them. - the gum -,several people told me they used it and got sores in their mouth - tongue.- the patch - several people who used this was burned it looked like someone held something really hot on their arm . - the inhaler- they had a bad sore throat. so I went -cold turkey - I smoked for 53 years and quit 4 years ago. it is a long hard struggle for the first month but gets easier with time.but it all depends on your desire to quit. good for you for wanting to quit I can now breath better ,can fully taste my food and smell better. I never knew that my clothes smelled so bad.good luck you won-t be sorry you quit.
If you are able to last for 3 months the rest is just willpower.
You can only help yourself, it-s your choice what you want to do, no one else-s. You have to want to quit.
If it-s more of a habit rather than an addiction just occupy yourself with activities or hobbies.
The first week or two are the hardest, after that it just gets easier.

Best of luck
Just don-t do it no matter what. Nothing is sadder then breaking a promise to yourself. Just mentally understand that no mattter how much you feel like it, don-t do it no matter what.

Everytime you feel like one, just don-t, its that simple
JUST DONT
No matter what you tell yourself
JUST DONT
It is just willpower. Any of the placebo-s will help but only slightly lower your craving.

You have to be determined to do it and not get in the situation where you are tempted, i.e after meal, out with (smoking) mates.

It just down to you - WILLPOWER
maybe use nicotine patches, or nicotine gum? chewing normal gum might also make the craving go away for a while. get rid of all the smokes you have, if its hard to get one, you might stop.
Stop lighting them. Worked for me

Anyone that has ever had to quit can you please give me some advice to quit??
Cold Turkey. I saw my husband do it after smoking for over 25 years with no problem, burt I wasn-t ready. Nine months later I decided I really wanted to quit, so I did cold turkey after 20 years of smoking. It was hard emotionally, not physically, for maybe 2 weeks tops.

You can do it! You just have to WANT to quit. Here-s a star to get you going! Start right now, and be proud to say, -I don-t smoke.-

Bless you! :)
Smoking is more of a psychological addiction than a physical one. If you really want to quit you must discover the reasons why you smoke and then eliminate or change these thought processes. As soon as I dealt with my psychological reasons for smoking I quit, first time and more importantly for good.

Once you deal with the psychological side of smoking it makes the quitting process easy, no matter your level of addiction.

It is key to stay positive, don-t focus on the cravings. Keep the reasons why you want to quit circling through your head. This will keep your spirit and motivation high. Cravings will ease as a result.

If you keep your focus on the negatives you are reinforcing a false belief that is too hard to quit. There are no real negative side effects to quitting, only positive ones. The longer you have stayed smoke free the easier the quitting process becomes. If you truly want to quit, believe that you can and you will.

Good Luck and Good Quitting
honestly i just quit one day to another, but there-s a lot of was know like patches which they say are very helpfull, or try smoking everyday less and less, until you don-t have the urge for it, think of why you want to quit so when u do u feel guilty of doing it. Best of lucks and wish you the best I know it-s hard but you can do it just put ur mind to it
I smoked for 25 years. Tried everything to quit and I did quit. A thousand times. It-s different for everyone. I finally realized that I could never quit smoking. All I could do was stop smoking. Didn-t quit just stopped smoking. I decided I wanted to live and have been smoke free for 2 years. But they are always there asking me to come back and enjoy. When I did stop (not quit) the monster was huge and overwhelming always close at my heels. War was declared. Battle after battle was fought but the monster would never quit. There would never be a truce. One day at a time one battle at a time. Then I had the revelation that I have heard comes only with time. I never really enjoyed smoking.
I was a two pack a day person. One morning on my way to work, I opened the car window and threw out my only pack of cigs. I could not smoke at work so that evening, I fought with myself to not stop and get a another pack. The next morning I realized I had gone 24 hours without a cig (longest time in 14 years) I them made it a game with myself to continue to go just one more day. After about a week your craving will be much less. It has now been 17 years without a cig and I no long cough and get throat problems in the winter.
I-m taking Chantix right now. It cuts off the nicotine receptors in the brain. My wife used it and she has been 4 months without one. They really make the smokes taste bad and as soon as you light it you want to put it out. I just light my cigarette and hold and maybe puff it twice. I was smoking up to 40 a day so its probably take a minute for me to totally quit. It has made me to have a couple wacko dreams, which I-ve heard it does.
nicotine gums really do help. and what i did was just have one cigarette in my pocket so whenever it was time to smoke i would just put it in my mouth and pretend like im smoking it. it really helped me i hope it does the trick for you too.
All you have to do is quit for two days and you can quit for life!
smoke one in the morning and then one at night and leave your cig. on the table. don-t bring it everywhere you go.

Has anyone heard of laser treatment to help quit smoking? -

Has anyone heard of laser treatment to help quit smoking? -

does it work...how does it work..where do they shine the laser?
Yes, a person I know has been successful with it and 4 of her friends/collegues too. They all went to the Ann Penman institute. But I am not a smoker so I have no first-hand experience. I think as in every method, it must work for some and not for others.

I had looked into it for someone I know. Apparently they apply the laser on acupuncture points and it takes only a few sessions in most cases. The person told me it doesn-t hurt (strangely enough, because most laser treatments hurt!)

Whatever the method, it only works when the person is truly ready to quit. And it probably depends on the therapist.

Ive been sneezing blood ever since I quit smoking...is this common? -

Ive been sneezing blood ever since I quit smoking...is this common? -

Do you know why? and do you think these two things are related or just a coincidence?

I know I need to go to the doctor, but I cant afford it right now.
No, it-s not a coincidence, but it-s okay and it-ll go away by itself before you know it.

CONGRATULATIONS FOR QUITTING!!!!!!!

Both the men in my life (hus, son) are prone to frequent nosebleeds. The dr. prescribed Flonase nasal spray, and they are all but gone. It-s really cheap (generic is $1.59 on my plan, $4 for everybody at Tgt - W-M) if you can get an rx.

Seriously, my mom died of lung cancer that spread everywhere because she tried - tried and couldn-t quit. You have my great admiration because I know how hard quitting is.

Best wishes,
Debbie
You need to use vaseline in your nasal passages once or twice daily to keep it moist. Also use a humidifier now that the weather is getting colder.
Quitting smoking should not cause you to sneeze blood. You have something else going on. It could be as simple as dried out sinus or it could be high blood pressure or others medical things. I am sure to continue to smoke or be around smoke would help it in anyway - most likely it would make it worse. What ever you do, don-t smoke! I have a website on nicotine withdrawal symtoms -
http://www.healingrecovery.com/nica/with…
check it out.

Alright, I-ll give this a stab, although I am no expert. There is a condition which occurs during congestive heart failure called pulmonary edema. This occurs when the left ventricle of the heart is too weak to pump sufficient amounts of blood through the aorta. This causes the lungs to fill up with blood, resulting in people coughing up blood (sneezing is a different story I think). So it may or may not be a coincidence.

I quit smoking for like the ninth time two days ago, and I have never experienced sneezing blood in any of my times quitting. However I did sneeze a lot more when I smoked in cold weather (no blood), I presume it is due to damaged capillaries (Little veins) in your nasopharynx (nostrils). So maybe they are in the process of recovering or something along those lines.

A good rule of thumb is if it lasts longer then you think it should and you become concerned, contact a doctor. I am sure that at some hospital SOMEONE will at least answer your question without diagnosing you. Good luck, use the patch its your best hope =p (It-s mine at least).

I try and try to quit smoking. I use chantix and have off and on for 2 years. I can quit for days but then? -

one cig leads to packs.
I do so good. Why do I screw it up and how can I stop?
I have quit from 4 days to 2 months several times but keep going back.
How can I stop this?
hi baby_rost..

you are absolutely right, there is no such thing as one cigarette, been there done that... reminds me of the last 5 years of my smoking, i was constantly trying to quit.. tried all the medications, and the patches, and gum..

the good news is, that i did find something that worked for me, and have been nicotine free, for over 5 years now.. what finally worked for me, was to quit trying to do it alone.. i joined a support group, and have been attending meetings both on line, and locally.. on line voice meetings are as close as your computer, and you are welcome to attend while Still smoking.. however you decide to quit Good luck there is simply no wrong way to quit..

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.
i quit for 4 years before and started up again. need to control your behaviors. realize that smoking is very destructive. expensive. fatal. i quit for good in may this year. when my mother was diagnosed w/ small cell lung cancer. i took her to all her chemo therapy and radiation. i watched her lose weight. rubbed her back while she vomited. watched her lose her hair. eyebrows. her will. i sat in the cancer care at the hospital 4 days a week for months. seeing her go through that and knowing it was 100% from smoking...... helped me quit. her cancer was from smoking. nothing else. i chewed like 3 pieces of nicotine gum a day for about 3 weeks. then i just quit the gum too. you have to want it. dont flirt w/ the idea of smoking. or the just one cigarette idea. i have quit drinking and drugs. and cigarettes. i crave cigarettes more than drinking and drugs. crave it more often. cigarettes are bad. they kill. they are expensive. get the will power. get pissed. get some nicotine gum. and quit. forever.
well keep using it as well as trying to keep your hands busy...most smokers feel that they need to have something in there hand but try to fill that space with something like a jig-saw puzzle..
plus you need the will power too stop every time you need a smoke try to take your mind of it...by doing something else stressful situations seem to trigger these addictions so try to stay calm and stay away from other smokers as the temptation will drive you crazy
I recommend cutting down gradually until your quit date. I did this. I cut down to half a pack. I did this for three months. I smoked by the puff, not by the cigarette. I took only the amount of nicotine that was necessary to satisfy my urge to smoke and put the rest of the cigarette out.

After doing this for three months I quit cold turkey.

Now I-m eating more candy to distract me but its been 10 months. I have urges but they don-t last more than a second or two. If they-re lasting more than that then you-re concentrating on the cigarette. Don-t do it. Concentrate on something else.
if it doesnt work, stop using it
The only thing you can do, is not buy any cigs.

You have to stay focused and keep your will strong so that you do not give in. Alot of what smokers face is a mental addiction, You being able to quit for that long is a sign that you are long past the physical addiction to the nicotine, but now need to break the habbit of the motions of smoking, you know what I mean? The pulling one out of the pack, the putting it in your mouth, the lighting of the cig, and all of that. I had one friend, who whenever they got a craving, would chew a piece of gum, another that kept -Dum Dum Suckers- around so that when they hit a craving, they got a small piece of candy instead of a ciggerette.

You just gotta get past that routine part of smoking a cig after certain points in your day and you will be fine. Your essentially cutting out a part of your life that you are used to doing, and once you are able to tell yourself -I dont need to do that anymore.- -No, I don-t need to smoke-. Or do one of the things I mentioned above, keep suckers around or gum, and do that instead of smoking durring the times you would smoke durring the day. While the candy isn-t the best of thing to turn to either, its a better habbit breaker than smoking a cig, and its meant to be there as a help. You go outside with your lollipop, you say to yourself -Why am I outside with this? I can be inside!- go inside, enjoy your lolli, and call it a day. Once you can do that, you will be golden =).

Can you still get ripped if you quit smoking? -

Can you still get ripped if you quit smoking? -

Why not? All it takes is discipline, determination, dedication - work, work, work, work.
It would honestly help you get ripped if you quit smoking and even if u didnt you should quit anyway!
Smoking usually curbs your appetite and causes lack of cardiovascular endurance (shortness of breath, duh).
That-s a tough one, maybe you should supplement your addiction with a strict fitness routine and start becoming more conscious of your diet. It sounds like hard work, but it-ll probably be just as hard to quit smoking. Either way, it-ll be best if you worked on aerobic exercise first (jogging, walking, biking long distance). This is assuming you are not like an asthmatic or have lung disease. Oh, and if you want to get ripped, I-m assuming lean muscle tissue. So, aerobic exercises are still a good choice for that. And if you are at a low weight, sprinting can take off that last layer of stomach fat. I suggest tempo runs, where you jog at a rate without strain one block and sprint sprint the next. IT-ll probably look wierd if a random kid is sprinting down a block, but I usually do it with a cross country team and a track team. maybe a jogging machine.
Well, sure. You-ll have more wind and exercise should proceed quicker, if anything.

Yes, I will pray for you. I smoked for years and quit about 7 years ago. I would cut straws the length of my cigs and puff on them. I would also take used cigs and put them in a jar of water with a lid. Everytime I wanted to smoke, I would smell the jar contents. I know this is gross, but it helped me. Good Luck Honey...You can do it.
