Ive just quit smoking but have developed a nasty smokers cough?!? -

I quit on December 20th, going from 10 a day straight to none. I never had a cough whilst I smoked (for about the last five years) but have suddenly developed one now. Is this common? Will it last, and is it a good or bad sign?

Thanks!
It will go away
Your lungs are trying to rid themselves of all the nasty tar/mucus and phlegm buildup that occurs when you smoke.
Its a good sign.. All the crap that has built up in your lungs over the years is loosening off and the cough is your body-s way of helping to shake it loose...it might even get worse but don,t worry it will go away
. congratulations on stopping smoking.. in order to stay stopped you must ALWAYS remember nicotine was never ever your friend in life it was your WORST enemy and must bee seen as such..Whenever you see someone smoke just imagine the theme from the Jaws movie playing... thats what nicotine is.... a KILLER....not a little friend that you still miss fondly...
Quit smoking about 2 months back now and still got a cough too. Its the lungs clearing themselves. Oh forgot to say soon you will get a bad cold and very sore throat but at least you quit
It is very common. It will eventually go away. If you were to have a ciggy, it would stop immediately. DO NOT use that remedy though-just bear with it. You-re doing well kicking the old habit. My congratulations and support!
Well done for quitting !!
It wont last, but nearlly everyone that quits gets a nasty cough. Hopefully you get get rid of it soon, Maybe you should see you doctor just to make sure everything is ok.
Hi, it-s just your lungs clearing i know it sounds disgusting but as the time passes and you continue not smoking the cough will disappear, i stopped smoking 6months ago and i still cough from time to time, it is really common so don-t worry you have done the right thing.
This is normal, your lungs are clearing out all the rubbish. It will pass.
It-s a good sign and won-t last. It-s just your lungs getting rid of some of the gunk from the cigarettes you smoked and starting to repair themselves.

.
you-ll have it forever, my dad quit 20 years ago, he still coughs now.
you went from 10 to nothing???? that-s class, well done!!! well, you lungs take a while to heal after smoking, and you might have it for a while. Try sucking lozenges or hard sweets to stop you coughing, just until it subsides.

hope I-ve helped

all the best xx:)xx
its your lungs starting to work to clear the cack
