How can I quit smoking without gaining weight? -

Please help if you have any good ways. Did you kick the habit? Did you gain weight?
For some of us weight gain is an unfortunate side effect of quitting smoking. Even if you do gain weight it will only be a few pounds at the very most. While weight gain is unfortunate it is by no means inevitable.

You have already decided to improve your health by quitting smoking so why not make it a complete health make over.

By making some healthier eating choices and performing 30 minutes of aerobic activity (biking, jogging etc) every day you will keep those extra pounds at bay. Trust me, it is easier to prevent weight gain than it is to actually lose weight.

Keeping the weight off is easy if you decide to keep your healthy lifestyle after you have quit smoking.

Good Luck and Good Quitting
I have just recently quit - 9 weeks and counting! Let me tell you, it-s a fantastic feeling!
I quit using a pill called Chantix. You can get a prescription from your primary care physician. The prescription is a bit expensive to pay all in one shot, but you have to figure, if it actually helps you quit, you-re really saving in the long run, because you won-t be buying cartons/packs of smokes anymore!
Chantix suggests that you set a -quit date- for yourself. Then, you start taking the pill and you can continue smoking for the first week, but at the end of 7 days (your -quit date-), you should stop smoking. The best thing about this medication was that they also provided you with 24/7 on-line and phone support. Each day they sent you an email to try to help you get through it. They even recommend setting up nightly -check-ins- to see how you did that day. If you messed up and smoked, it-s alright, they-ll get you back on track.
I will admit, I did eat a bit after quitting and did gain a couple of pounds. However, I-ve also been on a general -health kick- so continuing my work-out regime has definitely helped me get rid of those extra couple of pounds.
Personally, I wouldn-t recommend attempting to quit -cold-turkey-... When I tried that a) it didn-t work for very long, and b) I gained much more weight than I did with the medication.
I hope this information helps you, and I wish you luck in your quit!!
You can do it! :-)
I quit many years ago. Nicotine raises your metabolism so you will definitely be prone to gaining a couple of pounds. On top of that, many people supplement the oral fixation by eating. Set yourself up with healthy snacks of fruits and vegetables and do some type of exercise. Even if you gain a few pounds it is the lesser of the two evils. Good Luck!
The problem is that smoking makes you less hungry, so when you stop your hunger goes up - and also because some people find that they just need something else to do with their hands!

A really great way i-ve found to combat the hunger is to eat small amounts every three hours - its actually a great diet strategy, because it keeps the sugar in your blood pretty stable, and helps you from stopping binge eating because you never really get that huge food craving!
Make sure that you have LOTS of healthy snacks around, because it is likely that you will eat because youre just trying not to smoke. Or find something to do with your hands - my aunty took up knitting when she quit!
Which is the lesser of the 2 evil?
Weight gain usually happen because you regain more of your sense of smell and taste. Food starts to taste better and generally you eat more.

You can work off the weight gained but there-s no way your smoking -gains-. You are better off not smoking.

I quit cold turkey 12 years ago after 13 years of 30 sticks a day.
However not one method is going to work for everyone and there are plenty of quit smoking help that you can find online today.
Look around and find out that you feel is suitable for you.

Whatever it is, don-t give up! You can do it!
You know that smoking suppresses appetite right? and that usually leads to weight gain by most people quitting on smoking, because their appetite is increased.

The thing you need to do is replace that with something that can suppress your appetite. You need to get off on smoking, its really bad. Try drinking mild coffee when you get the urge to smoke. Or take some nicotine gum.

thats an old wives tale. you dont gain weight if you quit smoking. im an on and off smoker. i quit with 0 problem. you can too. theres nothing to it. all the -addiction- bs is all psychological. exaggerated by the media so they can make money selling you the nicotine patches and all kinds of drugs.

you dont need none of that trash if ur serious that you wanna quit then quit. you wont gain any weight, just dont eat a lotta fats, exercise and ur good. stop monitoring ur appearance and weight youll just play tricks with ya own eyes on ya body image, ya dig? so take it easy homegirl. now get to it -smacks ya booty-
ummm quitting smoking doesn-t cause weight gain. Eating more does though and since smoking stops hunger i can see how you relate it. But your the only one that puts food in your mouth, so control yourself
Chew sugar free gum. People gain weight because they have an oral fixation and replace the cigarettes with food.
instead of smoking go for a walk!
