How to get a loved one to quit smoking? -

My mother has been smoking since I can-t remember. My sister, father, and I have tried to persuade her to quit thousands of times, but she just can-t stop. A few times she promised us she would quit, but none succeeded and she continues to smoke to this day. She used to smoke just about a pack a day; but thankfully, she has decreased the amount to 4-5 a day, as I am aware. We have tried so hard to show her pictures of black lungs, to persuade her that smoking is horrible and that she may get lung cancer; heck, we have given it our best effort and still she is yet to quit. If you have a loved one that is smoking, you know how hard it is for me, knowing that she is killing herself day-by-day and there is nothing you can do to stop her. I have tried many attempts to hide her cigarettes, or throw them away, but I end up feeling like a fool when she simply goes and buys some more. She doesn-t seem to care how much we want her to quit, and I don-t know what to do. Someone please help..?
GET MEDICAL HELP !!!

BUT YOU KNOW IT WON-T BE SUCCESSFUL UNTIL SHE COMMITS HERSELF TO QUIT !!!
sometimes the secret is to stop harpering.....

you got your point across to her.. she is an adult.. she knows the health problems..

let it be...

when you keep pushing a child the child will push back--guess what? adults are just bigger children-stop pushing her into the corner.

besides..she isn-t breaking the law...
let her smoke outside away from people. it is not fair she polute anyone else with her suicide--
Well, it really helped my husband when my mother was diagnosed with emphysema, had half her lungs cut out, and lives on oxygen (of course, now he-s addicted to the patch, but he-s still better off).

She already knows about the health effects. And I-m sure that it-s not that she doesn-t WANT to quit. Have you talked with her about the effects on YOUR health and the rest of the family? The secondhand smoke is putting you all at risk, too, and that may be something she cares about even more than her own health.

It also wouldn-t be a bad idea to have her add up how much she-s actually spending on all those cigarettes, and consider what she-d rather do with the money.
nobody can quit smoking until they are ready to. pressuring someone just makes it worse because you are building failure into the equation. it is her life to do with as she sees fit so you should really stop moralizing. only about 20% of smokers die from smoking complications -- those aren-t good odds but its not as bad a media would lead you to believe. i quit when i decided it was really bad for me and to make matters worse i was sending tax money to a corrupt government and paying a corrupt corporation to keep me addicted -- and i realized they didn-t care for me i had to care for myself. is my life that much better since i quit? i have 3 bucks more a day to spend on other stuff. i don-t feel that much better -- i was always riding my bike and chain smoking. i think i look a little healthier. i would try to accentuate the positive. give her reasons to live and be healthy. stop dwelling on the negative. in the end it is her decision and not yours and you have to learn to respect that.
i know how you feel my dad wont ever stop. he tried once. but it only succeeded for about 3-4 months. try talking your mom out of it. like wen you know she-s going out for a smoke ask her to do something for u. or pretend u have something to talk to her about. if she says later just say u need to talk toher now. you can also take all her cigarettes and throw them away.
I-m sorry, but the only way she-ll quit is if she really wants too....maybe. She DID cut back drastically (that is...if she isn-t smoking in secret), so there may be hope. I-m sure it-s exhausting, but maybe if you keep bombarding her and annoying her, she-ll stop. I-m a smoker, and I-ve tried to quit for people, and it didn-t work. I did realize how much of a pain it is to crave cigarettes all the time, so I did cut back a lot....until I moved on and now smoke just as much as I used to. Keep up with what you-re doing...I know it would annoy me enough to either cut back, or make it private...which in any case means LESS smoking. They say smoking is more addictive than heroin, just to let you know how hard it is. You mother has been smoking so long, it-s beyond physical addiction....it-s deep in her head, It-s a habit, she feels weird without a cigareet, believe me. I hope she quits soon....and when I-m ready, i hope I succeed as well. Good luck!
hun, my heart goes out to you.

you probably don-t want to hear this, but you can-t get your mom to quit smoking if she-s not ready to do it. it-s her decision. i smoked for years, and despite my knowing it was a bad thing and loved ones urging me to quit, i didn-t do it till i was ready and willing. she might never be ready. i know its hard to accept this, but it is her decision. as much as you love her, and hate what she-s doing to herself, you can-t change her.
Quitting somking is easy, ive done it a thousand times ! LOL.... No seriously speaking this is a serious matter. You can try to arrange your mother with family trips to the country side while on the roads travelling ( hide / throw / get rid of the smokes ) and then when she asks for one just tell her that i dunno and even if i knew i wouldnt tell you. Coz its bad for you. My dad also used to smoke a lot. He always used to say that this sunday onwards i`ll quit and then that sunday never came. But one day he swore to GOD with the biggest swear that he will never smoke again and that was the last day. If your mother is a determoned person then try slipping her into this type of commetment. If not then i am afraid you`ll have to use strict measures like isolatig her some plase where she cannot buy cigrettes and then diverting her mind somewhere else. There are also some products in the market that claim that the person will quit smoking. You should try searching them on the net.
Pleasure to HELP
Salik
Talk to them about the affects of smoking. Give them hope, just say you know someone who stopped and after about 3 days they were completely over it, ME, lol. It-s so weird now its about 3 months and I don-t see the interest in smokes and I was smoking 10 a day. Of coarse it may not be that easy for others but with support they can do it.
tell him that u wont eat dinner if he doesnt stop smoking. Go on a -hunger strike.-
she has to really want to quit to quit but if she has been smoking for 15+ years if she quits it may not help her that much because her life is already ruined i hope she comes to releaized smoking is really bad and quitting even if it wont help her she can know that she quit for you and your family
after they get cancer and a stroke they will decide to quit. trust me.
As a smoker, I can only say I know you are right but it is not easy, and no one can make you quit. I was put on oxygen for COPD I stopped smoking for 7 months and I was doing good. Then Bingo one think happened I don-t know what but If I didn-t get that cigarette I would have killed someone, Its an addiction . We smoker know what could happen, and struggle everyday, saying this is the last. So the more you bug her, the more she might smoke. I started to walk, and am redoing my recipes on the computer, and with Yahoo Answers I keep myself very busy. That doesn-t mean I don-t want one, but I am fighting not to go back. The patch help me greatly. Good Luck and prayers.
Take her to the hospital to the ward where they house the patients who have lung cancer, or have lost a lung due to smoking... Tough love, to say the least. Let her know that that is her future of suffering if she does not stop smoking................Be supportive, and recommend some strategies to help her quit....
Good Luck

My husband smokes and I hate it. He has tried to quit before but did not have any luck. Is there an easy way to quit?
The best way to quit smoking is to never light one up again.

Wouldn-t it be great if it were that easy?
I-ve never been a smoker, but my husband is one and I too hate it.

However, you can-t force your husband to give up. It has to be HIS choice.
And if HE choses to give up he-s more likely to succeed. The method he choses will be an individual choce, and there are heaps of options.
Luck, has very little to do with it.
Look around and find someone who smoked and got cancer and get them to talk to him and show him how bad it really is.
His doctor can write him a prescription for Chantix. It worked wonders for me. Only draw backs: Price and insurance doesn-t cover.
Good Luck
Best way to quit smoking is with a buddy or partner, so they can check up on each other and support each other. There are stop-smoking groups in almost every city, check your library or hospital for information. Your husband also needs to know that most people fail several times before they succeed, he just needs to keep trying.
Well... I see people who smoke are in two categories.
1. They-re addicts.
2. It-s habit.

I-ve smoked, but I quit, then again, it was neither out of
habit nor addiction.

It sounds like your husband is an addict.
My mother was too. She finally quit, but... it was too late.
Two years later she was diagnosed with emphysema.
Ever since then, her health has been spiraling downward.

She probably doesn-t have much time left, and that kills me.
I can-t get close to her. If I do, it-s going to hurt that much more when she-s gone...

Tell him that you don-t want to have to go through that.
Tell him you want him to quit not only because you think it-s gross, but... because you want to be with him for the rest of his natural life...

Really come to him with this, and tell him you don-t want it to be this way. Don-t say -quit, it-s nasty.- Talk to him.

I hope this helps.
Unfortunately Smoking Ci garrets is very hard to quit. Its almost as bad as heroine except heroine you could die from withdrawl. Keep his mind occupied at all times. Make sure he knows not to smoke in front of you. And get him to join a gym, I quit smoking when i started bodybuilding.
Tell him to go to GYM. I have heard frm many builders.
Yes your on the right track at the gym.

Now he needs to begin reading and researching why.

How can you do this if you do not care about why.

So have him make a list of what it would mean to him.

lungs whos lungs? everyones lungs..... Go wipe up some of the nicotine off of the wall. Examine how stickey it is.

Hey let consider the word tar.... What is that assoiated with?
What is tar? I think tar has always been considered to be a resign that is sticky and black and like an adhesive it seals its self inside the lungs... And your lungs will function less efeciently the more tar you place inside your lungs...
I know it is hard to give up all of these poisions and toxins.
we are hooked and have lost control of our brain....
I hope you suceede and Please contact your Dr. before choosing a medication....Many are known to raise high blood pressure and when it shoots up the coast better be clear.
I can-t be your quit partner but know I am ready to make this attempt again with out meds because my body can-t hanele them.... Good bye to a pack and a half a day....
Welcome nice slow long breaths and citrus will curb those cravings that come from resign lingering in the pallet for a few days......
If you do not cheating you may note while you are making a bm the aroma of smoke may fill the room... Useually just one time...That means your on your way....
tell him not to smoke ..cos u just hate it..

Why do my gums bleed more now that I quit smoking? -

Why do my gums bleed more now that I quit smoking? -

Is this normal? How long till this goes away and they stop being so sensitive?
Surprisingly, this might be a good thing. When you smoke, you kill off the tiny blood vessels in your gums that nourish and provide immunity to the gums (that is why you don-t heal well after extractions and develop dry socket if you smoke). This bleeding means that angiogenesis(blood vessel formation/regeneration) is taking place and that your gums are getting healthy. To keep this up, make sure you visit your dentist/hygienist to go over proper oral hygiene techniques to repair the damage caused by smoking. Good job!!
Gums bleed due to plaque and calculus on the teeth and down the side into the -sulcus-. It is called ginigivitis, which can lead to periodontal disease, if not attended to right away.
smoking removes all the vitamin C from your body and if you think about your gums are in shock and you have substituted a cigarette with a tooth brush ! woo hoo for you for quitting you-ve got to feel better woohoo ver_jen dont brush so hard and try baking soda to brush with and if all else try sensodyde toothpaste for sesitive gums and teeth woohoo ver_jen proud of you!!!
That is gingivitis. That should worry you.

Ive quit smoking but the nicotine withdrawls are horrible what can I do to help ease them away? -

I know I can-t get rid of them but are there ways to ease the withdrawl symptoms. I quit smoking and it-s only my second day but I-m determined not to give up.
I totally understand what you are going through (ex smoker here).

Drinking water is really important. Instead of carrying what used to be cigarettes, carry a water bottle and a pack of sugar free gum. When you get a craving, take small sips... it will only last 2 minutes top and with each day that passes, it does get easier.

I also kept my hands busy at first with a Rubic-s Cube, crosswords and puzzles. It also takes your mind off of it.

I-m going to strongly recommend 2 things to you.

1. A book by Allen Carr. (Quit smoking book). It can get a bit goofy, but if you take the actual point of what he is saying you-ll be surprised how much you get from it.

2.
http://www.quitnet.com
Its a free site all full of people who are quitting or who have been quit for years. It provides 24 hour support, info, etc. It was my life saver in the beginning. Take the time to check it out.
when I quit smoking I decided 6 weeks prior, I marked the calendar and smoked as usual, no more no less but every day reminding myself on this date I quit. Then on the sixth week due date I went on the patch, all three steps. while on the patch I dealt with physical habit by chain chewing gum (i was a chain smoker) found new things to do at my breaks and had to learn new coping skills for stress. mean while I wasnt craving nicotine and each level on the patch weened me off the nicotine so by the end of the steps I was done smoking.
it been over two years now and I smoked cigarettes for 17yrs
The most reasons people go back to smoking is not the withdrawal from the nicotine...it-s more to do with something to do with their hands. I SWEAR!!!!!!!!!!!! When I stopped smoking, I did smoke outside and that slowed me down esp. in the cold, but, when I finally quit, I cut up straws and had empty clean ash trays and did the same motion as you do when you are smoking, drinking, something, on the net, reading, whatever...sleep helps if you can do it. Each week gets a little easier. I was a 4 pack a day smoker....for many years. To this day, I can-t stand the smell of smoke, but still crave the smoking....more of something to do with my hands....that-s why I type so fast...lol. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your lungs will thank you for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!… Every time I hear someone choking, I think, light up another one dummy!!!!!!!!!!! I use to be the same way though......CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congratualtions on quitting!!!
Clove oil, wild oat, a mixture of orange juice and cream of tartar and Lobella can help with cravings. Here is a short article about how to quit naturally, not with meds for example, what what helps to keep cravings at bay:
http://www.healthadel.com/kicking-the-ni…

When I quit I also drank huge amounts of water, pretty much whenever I got a craving. That helps too.
Hope it helps and best of luck!
Patch.

Yes. Now don-t be stupid and start back. Once you get really addicted, it will be so hard to quit. It only gets harder the longer you smoke.

I really need to quit smoking. Any tips from ex-smokers out there? What made it easier for you to quit?

Thanks!
At first I tried the gum, but it tasted disgusting.
Eventually I just quit cold turkey. It was hard at first but worth it in the end.
depends on how much you smoke now..

If your smoking over a pack a day as your DR for some ativan to help with the withdrawls

When you get down to less than a 1/2 pack a day, then the patches/gum/inhaler works
find a new thing to do
LIKE ME
I decided to chew gum when i thot of a cigarette...
also
get the nicorette gum or patch..
ONCE YOU QUIT YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SMELL THINGS AND TASTE THINGS THAT YOU HAVE NEVER SMELLED OR TASTED BEFORE lol
I-m serious!!
Do u really want to quit?- If u do buy gum and chew when u get the urge to smoke or suck on lifesavers.
If u dont want to quit, get some vitamin C and take 2-1000 mg a day to put back in the body what smoke takes out.
Make one pack last a month... Ween urself off them.. Slowly but surely wins that race!
Don-t smoke for two weeks...then give it up altogether!

There-s no easy way to do it. I know -- it took me 40 years to succeed! But when you really have the will to quit, you-ll be able to stop smoking without a second thought.
I-m on day 2 of quitting. (Yeah me!) Try the nicotine gum; it-s working for me - it-s what my doctor suggested.
I used the patch about 10 years ago. And I constantly listened to a tape by Wayne Dyer on quitting. You need to quit a moment at a time. When you want a butt, let that moment pass and then the next and the next. Eventually you won-t want one as much. Stay active if you can. Just make up your mind and DO IT. It-s not easy, just do it. I know you can. You-ll be so glad. Plus, it-s not socially acceptable. Good Luck.
First off, you have to REALLY decide to quit! You have to tell yourself you won-t die if you get intense cravings. I used the patch for the first week. i kept forgeting to put a new one on so i quit using them and just went cold turkey. Whenever I craved one I would chew gum or go for a walk. After dinner when i craved one the most I started jogging. This helped Heal and strengthen my lungs. i haven-t smoked for 4 years! Good luck! you can do it!
Acupuncture!! Some how *not sure how it really works but it does work* everyone I have known has quit totally after their 4 sessions of acupuncture. Of course you would have to make sure it is someone that does acupuncture to stop smoking so they get it in the right spots - not just normal acupuncture. Really does work though, it is suppose to detoxify your body from the nicotine - eliminate the physical and mental symptoms of withdrawl. The people who do the acupuncture say that almost 100% of people reduces their smoking to 50% of what it was previously after just 1 session.
I have known a lot of people who have quit this way here recently, because of the new smoking bans in the city I live in.
cold turekye or like chewing gum is the best

you not need prescriptions. you smoke when you are about to do some think, its more in the mind than a body drug. so you have to learn to reverse your thoughts, and do some thing other tan lighting up. you can also want to light up when starting yo relax. i smoked 40 a day for forty years and stopped 15 years ago. and saved a fortune. do it in first min ,then hrs the days ten months then years. keep thinking its only you can gain by this, you may be dead by time you get to 50 or 58. i stopped at 58 and am 74 fit as a fiddle and have done 30,000 miles on cycles in 10 years all after age 60. and taught how to swim, play golf and work 3 computers.and have many hobbies , and only on state pension.hope to see you on here to see if you trying to stop uk
Self attitude to stop smoking is the only best way to stop smoking
cold turkey...
If I smoked, I think I would try Wellbutrin along with the nicotine patch. They can both be used together.
Wellbutrin XL or XR

I tried every thing patches.... gums ... but nothing really ever works!!
You will face pain. Forget about it not being painful. I-ve never really believed in the patch since I don-t think you can combat cravings for nicotine with doses of nicotine except in EXTREME cases. Go cold turkey. That-s the best way possible. Get through withdrawal, and live a longer, healthier life! Just plan it out beforehand or see your doctor about it.
Best way to quit is cold turkey. It will behard. pick-up a new hobby to keep yourself occupied
Try Allan Carr-s -The Easy Way- book.

Most successful method I know.
Hi YA
If you have tried them and they didn-t help you, You will have to go with will power. Its not easy, i smoke and i know i shouldn-t say this (but if the doctor told me i will die tomorrow if i don-t give up) I would run to my nearest and buy 60 fags and get them all smoked for real. I just could not do it. But i wish you all the best in trying YA
Stop buying them. You cant smoke what you dont have.
I have-nt found a way yet,I suppose it boils down to will power but mine is -nt strong enough
Give up, who for you or the moaners who go on and on
about us smokers if you want to DO it and suffer or do as i do
puff away and DON`T do it.
The fact of the matter is, when you WANT to quit, you will.

I was a smoker for 15 years and -tried to quit- twice before I actually did. I tried gum the first time and patches the second. Both times I ended up smoking again with a couple of months. Absolutely pointless.

I know now that the reason it was pointless is because its not just a habit you-ve formed, its an addiction that is comparable physically to heroin. You are addicted to nicotine, whether you admit it or not. This is the first thing that you need to acknowledge to yourself...and I don-t just mean think it, I mean believe it. You have an addiction. At which point, when you truly believe it, you will instantly realise that topping up/replacing your addiction with another form of -hit- (eg gum/patches) is completely pointless. The only true way to rid yourself of it is to prove to yourself that you have the will power to go without.

This is the gods honest truth and its the only way you will quit and *stay off it forever*. To bring this home to you a bit more, I highly recommend a book that I read when I decided to quit. Its called Allen Carr-s Easy Way to Stop Smoking...and you can buy it on amazon:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Allen-Carrs-Easy…

It probably sounds like a load of hocus pocus, self help, hippy crap to you....because it certainly did to me....but a friend of mine who had quit, give me a copy that someone had given him and just told me to read it. You have to continue smoking whilst you read it and it tells you about the reason why you are addicted to the thing in your hand...its kind of a psychological deprogramming...it wouldn-t work without the cig in your hand. When you-ve finished the book, the last paragraph tells you to finish the last cigarette you will ever smoke and then you have quit.

It truly works, I-ve seen it work for a bunch of my friends which is the only reason I read it in the first place. Give it a go. I went from smoking 40 marlboro red a day to nothing. I was completely addicted and stopped immediately. I never even craved.
There-s a drug called Zyban...also known as Wellbutrin. It was originally marketed as an anti-depressant but it was found to have a positive effect on addictive cravings. You-ll need a prescription for it but it is widely used by the medical profession to help folks quit smoking.
In addition, you will need something to keep your hands busy. Nicorette make a product that resembles a cigarette and when you put it in your mouth and puff on it, it offers the same resistance a real cigarette does.
A dyed in the wool smoker needs 7-9 cigarettes to satisfy the cravings yet they smoke 20 - 30 cigarettes a day. That-s because the act of smoking is as addictive as the cigarette itself.

Try these and good luck with your project. It-s a hard habit to break.
dont its 2 hard+pointless as were breathin random toxic fumes evryday anyway
Just do as I did: Say -When I-ve finished these I-m not buying any more. Then finish them, and don-t. It sounds a bit harsh, But I did it that way, and without any of this -withdrawal symptoms- nonsense either! - AND I was on 100+ a day when I did it!
If this prat can do it, ANYBODY CAN !!!
where patches
Addiction is never painless to resolve. It takes determination and hard work. A supportive environment and finding other ways to spend the time you use to spend smoking. For instance most smokers smoke automatically after a meal, so go for a walk instead. Or you may smoke while having cocktails, then try snacking on nuts or popcorn.

If it were an easy addiction, then there would be far fewer smokers in the world.

Hang in there, if you can stay clean for 6 weeks you-ll feel like a new person and a lot of the craving will have disappeared.

It-s a -one day at a time- process..

Good luck....
there is no easy way you need to stop staight off and you need buckets of will power
The best way to quit is to never start in the first place. Since that didn-t work for you, I suggest you go cold turkey. Also, I would like to suggest you put all that money you save by not smoking into a hobby. I highly suggest you take up model railroading.
Hi,
To quit smoking, first you must have try many way what people tell you. Taking sweet, gums and etc.....
Well, i am a smoker too, like you now trying out in everything people said or visiting doctor for help. I can say is all bullshit.
My experience is my mind, whether your mind is set or not?
If you really want to stop you must first set your mind telling yourself to stop and throw the whole packet away. As for me, is because I have a chest-pain. Then go club with friends who are smoker also. Can-t take it and my backside itchy went to start smoking back again. Before you quit mind if I ask how long you been smoking? If for many many donkey year than you better consult a Doctor before you stop.
For my case, doctor advice me to smoke less, for the time being. And cut down slowly till I can total stop an end the whole thing..You can mail me and share : shellman8888@yahoo.com.sg
Challenge yourself. That-s what I did. Be determined to quit. Do not smoke for a day. If you have the urge, do something else to keep yourself (busy) from lighting up that cigarette and stay away from people who smoke. Then the next day, remind yourself that you didn-t smoke yesterday and say if I didn-t smoke yesterday why can-t I do it today. Preoccupy yourself. Do the sdame thing the following day. Just challenge yourself. The first 2-6 weeks will be hard (for me it is) that-s why you to stay away from people who smoke because everytime you smell it it will really smell verygood to you and will make you feel you want to try just a puff. Just take it one day at a time. The next thing you know you haven-t smoke in a long time and you might even hate the smell of cigarette. That-s what happened to me I hate the smell and it gives me headache (now) especially when I smell it on my clothes or hair.

Don-t give up trying. If this didn-t work for you try another way. Just don-t give up. If there-s a will there-s a way...
the best way to quit is never to start!
Try Chewing Gum.
Do you really want to quit? Have you listed all the advantages you can think of for quitting? Such as smelling better, food tasting better, health benefits long term, etc.? I-m sure you could add plenty of things to the list of advantages. Quit smoking because you want all of those things.
If you have been thinking about quitting because it does damage to you, those around you, cost mega bucks..... These and other things like these are true but you may be feeling coerced into quitting. Coercion has too much fall-out and it-s only a band-aid.
You may try acupuncture (from a reliable person), hypnosis, other products for helping you quit.
You should feel proud that you are working on this and even if you have tried many ways, you just found some that aren-t for you. Now you can rule those out and use other methods. Good luck, I-d like you to have a great quality of life.
throw them out the window - cold turkey is the best way to go
Ween yourself off it a bit at a time. Step by step. Thats what I did. Then get it down so that you only smoke when you-re at the pub, then cut down again. If you cut down one at a time, slowly, your body has time to adjust.

good luck!
i have been smoking for 6 yrs and one day i just decided to quit...i never tried the patches, gums, or anything...i quit cold turkey...try that it just might...and will power and determination to quit...when you get a nicotine craving put some gum or something in your mouth
Hmmm I-d been a smoker for 10 years and when I decided I needed to give up, I did just that. For some reason I never got cravings, or the bad sweating or aggitated. I never tried gum or patches so I would say the best thing to do would be to go cold turkey, because the faster the nicotine is out your body. the better. With patches and gum you-re just replacing fags with something else addictive.

This answer probably doesn-t help much, but give going cold turkey a try. It-ll be tough, but just keep saying to yourself it-ll be worth it. It can take up to a week for nicotine to leave your body, so detox with cranberry juice and lots of water and hopefully you shouldn-t crave too much... if at all.

hope that helps.
Do the gum and after the gum put a lolly pop in, it worked for men or go for a walk to burn off the energy if you can.

I-m looking to kick the smokes... Any ideas?
the gum thats speccaily made to stop my mom - dad quit with it i wish you luck ;)
I got the book American Lung Association 7 Steps to a Smoke-Free Life from my library and I couldnt have done it w/o it. You have to change the way you think about smoking and this book helps you do it. For example, I always thought of what I-d be giving up...not what I-d be gaining. My other thing was learning about being vigilant and how your mind plays tricks on you. I also used the patch. I had to quit many time to learn what made me keep going back...jan 1st will be 2 years that I-ve been free, its the best thing I ever -gave up-. Good luck, life is much better once you get over the hump.
Hi Jay,

The answer to quit smoking, is not to quit. The answer is to start smoking a healthy cigarette. I am smoking a Greensmoke cigarette, it has no cancer causing substances, no ash, no secondhand smoke, no bad smells, no tobacco, and you can choose with nicotine or without.

Here is the link:
http://www.greensmoke.com/bestprice

Hope it helps.
I did it cold turkey.
I would eat an orange every time I had a craving for a cigarette.
It wasn-t the craving for nicotine so much as it was that I needed something to do with my hands.
Get angry at the tobacco companies for adding all those chemicals to help addict you...show them ur stronger that those farg-arses.

Start running, biking, whatever, do somethin GOOD for ur lungs. Hang out w/ non-smokers. Quit doing anything that lowers ur resistance or remnids u of ciggy-butt time.
I went cold turkey in -96 (no patch) and had to quit drinking beer, pop and coffee...all associated w/ smoking - 4 me. On the crapper...read a magazine (if you tended to lite up there?)

If u get drunk you will smoke! Stay away from alcohol!

Get a video gaming station...or spend time on the one u have...a great distractor.

Got a GF? Talk her into MORE SEX (especially if she-s a non-smokers and WANTS u to quit.)

Ciggy-butts were the most addicting thing I-ve ever done. For me they were worse than cocaine. It took me a year to stop dreaming about them and get on w/ my life...I smoked for 24 yrs and started VERY young.
We are creatures of impulse, desire, poor long term planning, and all the bad traits companies rely on to make their sale. But if you-ve ever made a painful decision to say no to buying something, in exchange for some long term gain, you know what a mature delay in gratification can benefit you. Opting to save for tuition instead of buying designer jeans is a good example So is opting to stick with your crappy-looking buy efficient cellular phone, instead of getting a shiny and sleek iPhone. So is the decision to stop smoking to prevent medical complications from happening to you, and costing you tons of dollars; not to mention preventing you from living a healthy life.

If you-ve been following the logic of the foregoing, then you already have a clear picture of what it takes to stop smoking. The best way to do it is to fully understand giving it up costs you, what not taking part in that hip and addictive habit will end you up with, and how much discomfort, for a time, quitting would mean, physically, emotionally, mentally.

Will power is the best way. The problem is this method requires your soul to understand, to want to stop smoking altogether. A pregnant mother decides to quit drugs when the medical checkups showed her baby was declining in health while in her womb. A father goes gambling-sobber after his eldest straight-A daughter failed to pay her student loans. A single mom decides to devote more time at home, and leave her night life, when she notices how much her son needs her.

We just need to find a reason. Our will power will provide the strength to get us through our nicotine addiction. It will not be easy. And those who try to quit end up relapsing unless they are convinced, to their bones, that they want to quit. Maybe not for themselves, but for the sake of someone else. A son, a mother, a husband.

Those who go through this, suffer the pains of withdrawal, and emerge addiction-free, report that they feel like having been a different person when they had their addiction. Different from the person that emerged from the addiction. Like it was all a bad dream, or memories of a person just trying to make do with her naive worldview.

The thing about quitting smoking through willpower is that you need no rationalizations. You stop smoking because, insert reason here. And you see that reason as inevitable, as true regardless of anyone else who listens to you. Like a mathematical fact. True, regardless how much you rationalize against it, whine about it.

You will receive all sort of discouragement. Most people have smoking buddies and the media is filled with ads encouraging a life incomplete without a puff. But these will not hamper you if you know in your bones you want to quit because you have to. Not want to. That there are compelling reasons outside one-s selfish circle of reasons that demand you to be better than who you are.

So if you want some non-hypocritical reason to stop smoking. There it is. Find a reason. The methods won-t matter as much as long as you will is convinced you have to quit. You will emerge a better person for this.
The patch and keep your hands busy.
watch the movie harry potter and the prisoner of azkaban. it always helps me in my time of need. or try listening to mariah carey-s christmas album.
Haha...I remember the days when I was on the hunt for a pain free way to quit. I have been a non-smoker now for almost 2 years! I smoked for 8. I think the biggest thing is that you are ready. You have to be doing it for all of the right reasons, and those only you can decide. But even when that motivation is there, in my opinion you need help. I first tried the gum. It worked, totally took the edge off, and I chewed about 30 peices a day even though they say no more than 9 I think. BUT, I was spending just as much on the gum as I was on cigerettes which made me mad. And, after I chewed the gum for about 7 months, I tried to stop and immediatly picked up a ciggerette. See, the thing was that i was still addicted to nicotine. So, I ended up smoking for about 5 months after that and then I really had to quit because I found out i was pregnant. This time I wanted an all natural product, not only because I had to but also becaue I didnt want to go stay on nicotine and have the same thing happen as last time. I used smoke deter. it worked great for me but there are lots of different products on the market. Read some reviews and possible try one of them out. Here is a great site I foudn that does all of the research for you www.firstproductreview.com. And here is another review I found one the product I used. www.squidoo.com/quit_smoking_products_re…

Good luck!

The link worked but there were only three questions.

At the bottom you asked -If have failed to quit, Why?- There wasn-t any place to type in an answer.

So I guess I-ll answer on here. I only quit because I found out that I was pregnant. I didn-t want to quit. But I did it because I thought that was what I was supposed to do. I had smoked for 25 years and still enjoyed it.

Anyway, when I quit my muscles tightened up into a ball. It stressed my system so much that I couldn-t even think clearly. I didn-t sleep for three days. I had the shakes. On the third day, I miscarried the baby.

I started smoking again because I never really wanted to stop in the first place. I was only doing it for the baby. But the baby couldn-t survive the stress it put on my body.

And the anti-smoking people cheer my efforts.
The same thing happened to me as the person above when I used that link. So I-ll just tell you my case.

I smoked for 15 years and quit 1 year ago. So far, it sucks and I imagine it will always somewhat suck. I finished a pack and haven-t smoked another cigarette since. I quit cold turkey. No gum, no patch, no gadgets, no meds. I figured, if yer gonna quit, you might as well just QUIT. To me, all of that crap is just a cop-out used by people who either don-t totally want to quit or don-t think they can on their own. If you think, -Oh, if I have trouble I always have things to fall back on,- your chances of actually quitting aren-t very high. JUST QUIT!!!

Any one of you still glad that you quit smoking cigarette or you still miss cigarettes? -

I would like to see how many people quit smoking but still miss it or they hate it after when you quit smoking?
I am so happy that I quit and don-t want to smoke again!
I would like to hear from you.
TY!
I would smoke a few cigarettes not enough to call myself a smoker, but my late husband did smoke and he was very glad to quit for Jehovah God. when I stand near someone who smokes, they smell so bad. years ago this woman smoked and when I past her, you had to hold your breath because she smelled so bad and she put perfume on top of the smell, it was awful
Hello Edoedo. Yes I am still glad that I quit smoking. Yes I still miss cigarettes. I enjoyed smoking. I enjoyed blowing the smoke out. I felt comfortable with that object between my fingers. The whole thing of opening the pack, tapping the cigarette, taking that first drag . . . it was a pleasant ritual. And smoking relaxed me as nothing else could. But I wanted to serve Jehovah. He helped me quit. Twice.

It is not just a physical addiction. For many it is also an emotional and psychological addiction. Sort of like a comfort food. That is what it was for me. Sometimes, for some people, the desire for a cigarette never goes away. I don-t mean it-s an on-going thing day to day. But sometimes, even years after you quit, you can want a cigarette. I am one of those. I was hooked all three ways. I still remember how much I enjoyed smoking and occasionally I will reach for a cigarette that is not even there - force of habit. I was terrified that I would have to give up coffee, wine, margaritas and iced tea because I always smoked cigarettes with those drinks and smoking is very knee-jerk. Morning coffee? Cigarette. After a meal? Cigarette. But when Jehovah delivered me, he did so in such a way that I did not have to give up those things.

I do not want to smoke again ever. I am happy that I quit but I will not lie - I really liked it. And if it were not for Jehovah, I would pick up the habit again.

Hannah J Paul
When I decided to get reinstated I stopped smoking , it was not easy , that was around 2 years ago . I do not miss it but every now - then I do get the urge to have a smoke but I find the urge passes as quickly as it strikes - it is becoming less frequent .
I don-t like being around people who smoke now as the smell makes me feel ill - I can smell it on people .
I feel better , have more spending money - best of all I am looking after the body Jehovah was kind enough to let me have - feel my worship acceptable to Jehovah.
Like you I will not be smoking again
I quit 8 weeks ago because I had a heart attack and I really miss my cigarettes but I do not miss giving the government my hard earned dollars.so when I am having a bad day with cravings I think about how much the government takes advantage of peoples addiction and how I will No longer give them another penny for cigarettes.
i used to smoke and sometimes do on rare occassion but ive quit for the most part mainly cause my body builds resistance to drugs so fast its not even funny after 2 weeks of smoking cigarettes when i started i got absolutly no buzz this is without filters handrolled continued to smoke then realized how pointless it was when i was pretty much immune to the stuff.
I was one of those that actually enjoyed smoking cigarettes. I enjoyed smoking after meals, before bed and first thing when I woke up, after certain -occasions- and for no apparent reason at all. I didn-t think I could EVER stop smoking cigarettes because quite frankly.... I didn-t want to (I even enjoyed the way the cigarette felt between my fingers)......

Then I learned about Jehovah. Learning the TRUTH about God made me truly appreciate, love and draw close to Him. Learning of His promises, the hope for mankind and everything else Jehovah-s people are priviledged to know made me certain that I wanted to be around forever to praise Him. I prayed to Jehovah for the strength to help me quit the filthy habit (I started to view cigarettes as He does in light of the sacred Scriptures), I went to the toilet, took my cigarettes out of the pack, crushed them all and put them in the toilet, went to the bathroom on them, flushed them down the toilet and prayed that Jehovah always help me to remember how truly FILTHY they are.

I got rid of EVERYTHING and ANYTHING that would remind me of the cigarettes (ash-trays and things of that sort), made sure ALL my clothes were washed, cleaned my apartment thoroughly to remove the cigarette smell, cleaned my vehicle inside thoroughly, sought help from the true Christian congregation and haven-t regretted one moment of it. With Jehovah-s help, I quit -cold-turkey-, people who knew me well were SHOCKED and thought that I must have been using some sort of patch, pill or gum! I told them that I didn-t need any of that but that Jehovah God supplied me the power of His holy spirit and that-s what helped me.

Food tastes better, I can smell things better, have way more energy, save more money (think about it, cigarettes cost approx $7 per pack were I live, I would go through 1 pack every two days wich was approx 3 packs per week x 52 weeks per year = 156 packs of cigarettes x $7.00 per pack = $1092 per year.... UP IN SMOKE!), feel much healthier and most of ALL.... I know that Jehovah is pleased with my decision which makes me happy in a way that many ex smokers NOT truly KNOWING Jehovah may never come to know or understand.

I quite years ago.

Do I miss it? No way.... smoking STINKS.... literally.

Also, individuals who DO SMOKE and consider themselves to be Christian... are only fooling themselves. NO *true* Christian would EVER smoke cigarettes and or cigars, being that doing so puts the misled individual in direct VIOLATION of the TWO greatest commandments:

-He said to him: “‘You must love Jehovah your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind.’ 38?This is the greatest and first commandment. 39?The second, like it, is this, ‘You must love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40?On these two commandments the whole Law hangs, and the Prophets.”
- Matthew 22:40

So again, I say, as well as the Scriptures show, that one simply CANNOT be a true Christian AND be a smoker at the same time.... whether or not they believe this is true is irrelevant..... as I stated, I myself was at one time a smoker (John 4:23, 24).

:0)
I smoked from age 16-29, and I quit cold turkey. Best thing I ever did!!!
Same with my husband. We did not quit at the same time, but we both have never missed them one bit!
We both quit over 20 years ago! :) :)
I never had to quit that disgusting vice because I never got hooked on it. Now sex, well...................................

How hard is it to quit smoking? -

I want to start smoking and I am old enough to buy cigarettes. If I do decide to begin, how hard will it be to quit? I-ve quit other bad habits cold turkey without any problem. Let me know what you think.
not like all habit, smoking is a very difficult to stop. its a timely manner also. that s when u start smoking, u will fix a time to smoke. when u adict of that, you cant stop or control urself with out cigarettes. so its avodable one in this age.not only this age for all age people.(my dad lost his two legs because of smoking)
well once you start , you may noy want to quit until your health starts to fail , however ...accupuncture worked for me ...no withdrawls , nothing !
not so hard if you have a strong desire to quit
its very hard. how hard is it for you to just refuse the temptation of trying out a -smokers life- in the first place?
its hard eh? do you think about it when your really pissed off? do you think about it when others smoke around you?
do you think about it even when your alone and not pissed off? well.... thats how hard it might be to quit after you start- just as hard as not starting at all, but maybe harder.
very very hard..and you risk chronic bronchitis and difficulty breathing...you only get one set of lungs...don-t even start
very hard?
I think It-s different for everyone...someone can stop cold turkey just like that while with another person, it may take a few times using the patch or lozenge or whatever. But why would you want to start? You may have quit other habits cold turkey, but smoking is something a lot of people have trouble with. Like I said, everyone reacts different when trying to quit the sticks.
Cigarettes are in a completely different league from everything else that is quitable. For too many people, the hardest thing they will ever do is to quit smoking.

While you are a smoker your immune system is likely to go wayyy down and you will experience more colds and flus. You will also stink. -- Those are the reasons I quit, but I was one of the very lucky ones, because quitting came easy. Not so easy for my friends who have not been able to kick it as hard as they try.
it is easy with Chantix -talk to your doctor.
your an idiot you don-t smoke and want to find out how to kick a habit before starting it. That-s like asking about illegal drugs. Or asking how easy is it to stop drinking before you decide to become a drunk.

How can I help my husband to quit smoking? -

I know he really wants to. Its the biggest struggle for him though.

All of his friends and everyone around him smokes so it makes it even harder for him.
I smoked for more than 12 years and quit 20 years ago. My wife helped me a lot, showing me very politely than she didn-t like the smell all over the house, our clothes, my mouth, my skin and so on. There was a night when everything happened that I-ll never forget: I told her, -now I-ll really quit smoking-, and I toke my lighter, my cigarette package and through them away by the window of our apartment, when she told me: DON-T FOOL YOURSELF, GO DOWN, TAKE THEM BACK AND SAVE YOUR MONEY, BECAUSE TOMORROW YOU-LL BE SMOKING AGAIN, AS YOU DID MANY OTHER TIMES. Those words were the key for me to take it as a challenge, and I thought to myself, -smoking can-t be stronger than I-, and since that night I never smoke again. The first days were like a storm, really very hard but I did it. I began to run at the same week and I became a marathoner, running, training and competing as can be seeing in the wall of my office, full of medals and trophies.
I think you can help him a lot, but he must be the one to take the decision. Together you can do it.
Good luck.
Don-t nag him or remind him. Don-t preach either. Just be supportive and positive when he can go a day without smoking or can cut down successfully. And don-t pile all your problems on him the minute he comes home. Try and keep the stress off him if at all possible. Good Luck to you guys. Just tell him you know he can do it.
you can-t help him . he can only help himself. keep up plenty of love and caring after all you must-ve married a smoker and to put stress on him could be a quicker killer

Is there any link between quitting smoking and heart disease.? -

Is there any link between quitting smoking and heart disease.? -

I know smoking is a cause for heart disease. I know 430,000 people die every year in America due to smoking related disease, heart being the major one. I know smoking is too bad and it has to be even banned like cannabis or any other drug. I know smoking is dangerous extraordinaire. And yet, I read somewhere smokers who quit smoking may develop serious heart disease within 2 years fromn the date they stopped smoking. Is it true?
There may have been a study on this, I haven-t seen it. The problem is that these people may have had the same complications if they continued to smoke. It might not mean that quitting is bad for you, it might be that quitting too late is bad for you.

BTW: I-ve been smoke free for 2 weeks.
Heart disease usually is caused by a build up in the arteries. Heart attack can result because the blockage restricts the amount of oxygenated blood that gets through the heart. Without oxygen, the heart does not function properly. The cause of blockages? Poor diet. Control your diet and exercise.

Smoking can lead to a NUMBER of terrible illnesses. Applaud yourself for quitting. Your lungs have a number of stretchy tissues that enable them to expand. Smoking DESTROYS them. While they may be able to heal, sometimes people smoke for so long that they don-t have TIME to heal. Living with any type of COPD such as Emphesyma or Chronic Bronchitis is not fun. Emphesyma causes the alveoli (where carbon dioxide and oxygen are exchanged) to collapse and complications follow.

Stop smoking.
Learn to eat healthy.
Be active.
Chances are those people would have died even sooner had they not quit! Every cardiologist will tell you that one of the most important things you should do for your heart if you smoke is to quit NOW!

Of course it-s easier said than done, but if you-re worried about your health, it-s a must.

Some help can be found here
http://www.smart-heart-living.com/quit_s…
in terms of reasons to quit along with some resources that might be helpful.

Good luck!
The smoking hazards are over exagerated,, over smoking is injurious like every otherthings.. Once stoped smoking the effects heal.
It-s very possible but not because they quit. The effects of smoking will stay with you for years. It dissipates over time but doesn-t just disappear when the cigarettes do.
smoking does cause heart decease and its been proved time after time not to mention other complications your body does heal its self but it all depends how long a person has been smoking for
Is there any link between quitting smoking and heart disease.? -

I just quit smoking 48 hours ago and Im feeling jittery, any tips to make the withdrawal jitters go away? -

I just quit smoking 48 hours ago and Im feeling jittery, any tips to make the withdrawal jitters go away? -

keep yourself busy. the number reason why people who try to quit smoking fail is because they have too much time on their hands to think about how much they need that cigarette
Ask your Dr for some Ativan an anti anxiety drug

I quit a 5 pack a day habit, this stuff helped me the most,

It was only $1 a pill, I only needed 2 to get thru
I quit smoking myself about 1 year ago...I recommend using the gum however if you dont want to do this. I recommend eating something like an apple, food always seemed to help me.
When my dad stopped smoking over five years ago he ate a lot of hard candy and chewed a lot of gum. Maybe to help you thru your withdrawals you can try some of that nicoderm gum? I hope you can make it, it-s a very nasty habit and it will help you out more than you can ever imagine if you can quit.
have a drink start a whole new problem
congrats.

try to exercise. it-s all about willpower from here cause it-s really hard. also, smoking aids really help for withdrawal like patches (either nicotine or herbal)
nicoret and the patch to gradually ween yourself
Chewing gum is great, and also so is other candy that you chew and suck on. Make sure during these next few days you keep busy. Congrats on quitting!
Go for a fast walk. Take a shower. Mainly do some type of exercise. This will take out your frustration along with reminding you why you are quitting!

GOOD LUCK!!!!
Exercise releases endorphines, a natural chemical that makes you feel good. So, try doing something like walking, jogging, or anything athletic that you might enjoy. Also, might want to see the doc about a prescription such as certain ones that are made to help people quit smoking.

If not, there is always the gum, or a nutritious snack. But try not to go overboard with the food if you can.

Here-s a website you might want to look at (and there are many others):

http://www.whyquit.com/

I-ve heard that chewing gum helps, but just keeping yourself busy is important. I don-t know how similar anxiety attacks are to someone who quit smoking, but whenever I feel like my mind is going to implode, I just occupy myself with something different. While you do this, try to seek expert help (ie. someone who has already been through this....and succeeded, or your doctor.)
suck on hard candy, it will stimulate ur mouth in the same way a smoke did. thats how i got over smoking.
Food is a good idea. Make a nice Italian or Mexican meal and you-ll forget about smoking for a bit.
Have a smoke.
There is no option here. Go find something better to do with your mind. For example, if you were currently stranded out in the forest, you-d probably be thinking of a way to get rescued than worrying having some jitters from a lack of smoking.

Quit feeling sorry for yourself. Quit -milking- the cigarette-dilemma in your mind and just move on. Go answer some questions about some other subject. Just stop giving it attention. You-ll live... I promise.
jittery? exercise!! if you have to eat, eat healthy snack foods like peanuts in the shell-- they occupy yor hands and take a while to eat so you won-t gain a lot of weight from munching chips and stuff. but yeah, for jitters, just occupy yourself. exercising helps a lot.
I don-t have an answer for getting rid of the jitters but, keep lots of hard candy around...blow pops and such are the best...they help with the need to helo things in your hands and have something in your lips...Congrats and GOOD LUCK TO YOU!
congrats
chew gum or eat something when you get the urge to smoke
I ran as hard and fast as I could when I stopped smoking. I was the BIACH from hell. Also buy a rowing machine and jump on it when you are jittery. I used to tire myself out because I was a horrible person because I was that jittery. Also sucked on chuppa chupps (lolly pops)... Maybe too much sugar???

What can happen to me if i start smoking around 11-13 and quit at 21? -

What can happen to me if i start smoking around 11-13 and quit at 21? -

i started at about 11-13 years old im only 13 now but im getting already addicted if i quit smoking at 21 whats the worst that can happen and im the f**** retart i have asthma and am over weight
Studies have shown that kids who start smoking at age 11 are addicted by the time they are 14. Please don-t wait until you are 21 as it will be that much harder to quit. I have friends who smoked and said that quitting smoking was harder than drug addiction.
Here are some more things to think about that smoking causes:
Bad Breath
Yellow teeth
Smelly clothes and hair
It destroys the absorption of vitamin C in your body, therefore making you susceptable to more coughs and colds
Trouble with keeping up with friends in sports
Serious trouble with asthma
Expense of cigarettes
Trouble with pregnancy
It-s aging to the skin
It could turn off a hot guy/girl because it-s just yuck!
every cig that you smoke takes 3-5 mins off your life just so you know
Do you know how difficult it is to quit?
REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY HARD.
You won-t be able too unless you have a lot of will power or support.
Smoking will only make your asthma worse, make you more overweight, make you feel like crap, get all wrinkly, and the smell is disgusting.
People will not want to be around you.
1 whiff of cigarette smoke and I gag.
give up now,not worth it.
I started at 12 and i-m now 42 ,quit the cigs last year, but now addicted to cigars.
Do you really want something to control you, kissing girls that will hate your smell, getting old faster, and looking and smelling disgusting.
Try to get more information regarding some ways to stop smoking at my profile.
Sounds like you want to quit.... so quit
You gave good reason why you should quit! (asthma and you feel like you need to cough)
I used to smoke and thought I wouldn-t be able to stop but I just quit one day! It-s easy so quit now!!!
You will feel much much better inside and out!
Its really really bad to start smoking at your age. I think the younger you start the harder it is to quit. I sort of had the same idea as you about quitting when I was older and I started around the same age. I just finally quit now at 26 and it was SO SO hard, and I have a few friends from middle/high school who-ve been smoking for 10-12 yrs and just don-t seem like they will ever quit and will probably die from it like 20-30 years earlier than they should.

Also since you are only 13, your lungs are still forming. They will NOT grow correctly if you continue to smoke, so your lungs will turn out smaller/less functional than they should be when you are an adult. That effect is even worse for girls than for boys if you smoke as a teenager because of the rate at which girls lungs grow. Plus you say you have asthma? That makes smoking an even worse idea, you really don-t want permanently messed up lungs along with asthma. The smoke will also definitely make your asthma worse by irritating your lungs and that can be dangerous even in short term. It is also not quite so common but it is definitely possible to get lung cancer from smoking for 8-10 years. The smoke does more damage to the tissue of young peoples lungs than to older peoples lungs for some reason. If you get lung cancer, the survival rates are very low.

In terms of what is wrong with you now I couldn-t say exactly- it sounds like you have maybe bronchitis or lung irritation from the smoking. That happens, lots of smokers get chronic cough/ bronchitis from the irritation and damage from smoke -tar. Plus it makes stuff like regular colds lots worse and harder to get rid of. I know I-m giving you a really long answer but I was in exactly the same situation at your age and wish I had quit right away when I was 13. Once you-re addicted, nicotine is one of the hardest things to quit- it really is technically as addictive as heroin or cocaine.
you won-t be able to just quit anytime you like. you-ll get addicted and, chances are, you-ll stay addicted for the rest of your life. i suggest you quit asap.
its bad to start. when you first do it...it hurts kinda because you like start to cough a lot and then after you do it like, the second one, then u dont really cough as much as the first, if you breath in too long, you will cough-it hurts like hell
You will waste a lot of money and then risk a habit that is very hard to quit.
Okay, I-m sure you already know the risks of smoking so I-m not going to talk about all that. So if you do stop at 21 you still would have smoke for around 10 years or a bit less so you will have done a lot of damage to your lungs, heart you know your whole body. But if you do truly quit and then never smoke again your body will heal it self not completely but a fair amount and your chances of dying from smoking will decrease, and your health will improve. You still will have a better chance of getting health problems than someone who has never smoked though. How do you know you will quit though smoking is very hard to stop! My advice is of course quit smoking.
Good Luck.

And the reason why your lungs feel weird is because you smoke and all the stuff in cigarettes like tar get in your lungs and you cough because your body wants to get rid of it.
If you-re going to quit when you-re 21, start quitting now. Inhaling crap into your lungs is the stupidest thing you have done in your young life.
QUIT NOW!
If you-re developing addiction now, it will only get worse.
Don-t plan on being able to quit at 21. Unless you have a lot of will power and think you can manage it, why not stop now?
What can happen to me if i start smoking around 11-13 and quit at 21? -

If I have a drug test on the 17th/18th and I quit smoking pot tonight, will I pass a piss test? -

Also I have a high metabolism and do not store alot of fat. I think I-ll be fine if I drink 8 glasses of water a day until the test?
With this much time I-ll tell U how 2 pass this. Niacin, take 4 pills a day till the day before. Always have lemon in Ur water. Lemon is a natural diuretic. 4 days before the test take AZO standard, as directed - drink a lot of lemon water during these 3 days. By the 4 or 5 day as long as U take the extra precaution - hydrate Ur system, piss 7 tomes before U give the sample. Take a multi vitiam the day of the test 2 keep color in Ur sample. I know this works, saved me at least 20 times. Hope this helps or gives U something 2 think about.
try the herb goldenseal

how to Quit Smoking
try to smoke 5 pack in one night. after that you will beg to quit.
Most people don-t have the sheer willpower to quit cold turkey. So for them it-s pretty much a choice beetween the gum or patches. I think the patch is the better of those two choices. You wear it all day, and you get sick if you smoke while you wear it. It removes the physical cravings and it just becomes a matter of your mental addiction. Plus, wearing a patch when you go to bed gives you very intense and vivid dreams. You go through 3 steps gradually taking your nicotine levels lower. By the time you-re done, going about your day with no patch and no smokes isn-t a problem.
get the paches behide the coter of the store
The only way that worked for me was to go to a group hypnosis seminar. I quit April 29, 2005 using that method. One thing you have to remember is that no matter what method you use, YOU HAVE TO WANT TO QUIT!!!! Even the hypnotist said the same thing. Nothing will work until this happens.
JUST STOP!!!
Everytime you go to light up, think of ALL those CHILDREN who have, and have DIED from Cancer. Think of what they-re lives are like....the PAIN and SUFFERING they-re going through. That was enough for me.
Cold turkey and will power. Before you try it, sit down and write yourself a note as to why you want to quit. Keep it with you so when you feel the urge you can read it as a reminder. Good luck.
nicotine gum ?
Nicorette gum and/or nicorette?? patches. They have nicotine in them. When I stopped smoking though, I really wanted to stop. Also, I bought big bags of M-M-s and Jolly Ranchers and whenever I wanted a smoke, I would munch on candy. I turned into a candyholic for a couple of weeks replacing one habit with another.
cold turkey. Dad used to smoke, drink 6 cups of coffee a day, one day he felt something was wrong, came home took his b.p. it really wasn-t high, but high for him.He went to see the doctor and was told he had light high b.p. (I mean it wasn-t sky rocketing), adnormal pulse rate. Doctor told him to loose weight, cut down on caffiene and most importantly, quit smoking. He did quit his coffee (but he drinks his Diet RC in place of it) and has quit smoking, he hasn-t lost that much weight. But cold turkey is the way to stop smoking, and he says the secret to quitting smoking is: You have to want to quit-. If you don-t really want to quit, then why try? Make your mind up that you-re gonna quit, not this silly smoke 2 less each day or so, if you-re going to quit, then quit.
Cold turkey !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Opinions Vary on this one. I can only tell you what worked for me. I smoked for over 35 years started when I was 12 thanks to my brother. (different reasons for all of us).

You have to decide to do it. No one else can except you or death which if you keep smoking might be sooner then you want.

First realize this. There is absolutely no benefit to smoking period. When you smoke you stink. You hurt your body and others around you. With these things in mind then it is smart to quit.

Set a date. Make it firm in your mind. Go to bed that night certain that when you wake up you will never smoke again. Get a couple of boxes of nicotine patches and use them starting the next morning when your feet hit the ground. I had all three steps but the first step made me climb the walls so i dropped down to the next one. Get some gum and chew that sugarless if you can stand it. You might gain a few pounds but you will live long enough to get rid of them. after a month or so Food will taste 10 times better. you will have saved a small fortune and you will feel sooooo good about yourself. I did it 2 years ago this Jan 1st and never felt better.

Good Luck You can do it and only you!!
That is the best way is to start asking questions..!
A lot of it depends on how long you-ve been smoking. Some people do have good luck with patches and gum. Others are successful with the Cold Turkey method. I myself after 25 years of smoking had to go to group hypnosis just like Smoothie was talking about. It worked quite well, only cost me $40 and if I feel the urge to light up again I can attend another session for free.
Use the patch, gum or lozenges.
Cold Turkey. You-ll be uncomfortable for three or four days, then the cravings will stop.

You have to be serious about quitting, and it will come easy. If you can make it 3 days without a cigarette, you can make it a lifetime.

The gums, patches, all that crap are useless in my opinion - they only prolong the agony of nicotine addiction.
my cousin quit smoking by sucking on lollipop-s whenever she wanted to have a smoke.try it, it might help. :)
The Nike way -JUST DO IT- hard way cold turkey but the best ya gotta have will power tht patch and crap only works for awhile, you have to be really ready in your heart and your head Good Luck you can do it!
