How do I quit smoking? -

I am 15 and have been smoking for at least ax months. I can-t control myself. I-m so desperate that I either take some from my dad or find some in ashtrays and burn the filter. At first it was just up at my vacation home but now it-s everywhere. I have been secretly smoking without my parents knowing but now I-m worried. I love to sing and I don-t want to lose that.

unfortunately you are not old enough to purchase over the counter gum or patches, you have to be 18. I would suggest talking to your doctor when you go for a checkup - he isn-t allowed to tell your parents, so they wouldn-t find out unless he prescribes something. There are many behavioral things you can do... like having snacks instead of cigarettes to help with the oral craving of having a cigarette.
Hi Keti I started smoking at an age of 16-17 and got hooked on to it for 25 years. I tried many attempts to quit but nothing could work. Addiction of smoking is 300 times stronger compared to that of heroine or cocaine. To quit is difficult but is doable. I am myself now successfully away from smoking for last one year. I encourage you to quit, you can do it, you should have a desire to quit. I am a member also of an online yahoo health group, namely kickbutts-nosmoking, where I get free support to continue my quit. You may join this or some similar online group at your wish. Love and hugs. Wishing you a smokefree life - MK from India
You can try champix. It does wonders. Two of my friends that had terrible problems in quitting cigars managed to do it almost instantly with champix.
I hope that other teens who want to smoke read this. You can try Nicorette gum. It helps many people. I am very sorry that you are addicted to this filthy habit.

This is the truth. I have quit smoking twice and it worked both times. I ask Jesus to help me and He took the desire away. The habit with the motions of my hands and to fill the time was harder. I also watched my Aunt pass away 3 weeks after I stopped. The Dr. said it was from smoking. She died for lack of air! It has been 12 years since my last smoke , If it worked for me it will work for you!
My brother had the laser treatment and amazingly, unbelievably he became a reformer smoker. trust me that if he could quit so dramatically, so could you.
I chew gum. Or go do something constructive.
Keep hard candies in your cigarette pocket or wherever you keep your cigarettes. Don-t eat a lot of sugar or spicy foods, they only increase the cravings. Find other things to do to keep yourself busy, both physically and mentally. Drink through a straw, it will give you a the feeling of having something in the shape of a cigarette between your lips. If you smoke more than a pack a day, consult your doctor about medication to calm your nerves and possibly an antidepressant. Of course you have to commit totally or you will not succeed.
it comes from the inside if he wanna 2 quit he will
determination and the gum
I used Welbutrin. It is an anti-depressant so it helps with those feelings of panic and rage. Do NOT throw away all of your cigs because that makes you feel helpless. Keep them around for security until you are strong enough to discard them. That is when you know that you have WON !!
call 311
The first thing is to make up your mind and remind yourself of all the reasons why you should. Start putting the money you would have used to buy cigarettes into a cookie jar and save up to buy something for yourself as a reward. You can read about a natural product that has helped others stop in 2 days time. You take a teaspoon of EYI-s Noni -Plus and hold it under the tongue for about a minute before swallowing it. Do this every hour, on the hour, for as long as you are awake for 2 days. Go to www.eyicom.com/?key=glory2god and read about it ! It takes away the craving and the B-complex vitamins keeps the body calm while replacing the nicotine with an enzyme!
get a doctor to tell him he has lung cancer now.
chew gum
throw the ones you have away and dont go buy n/e more, GOOD LUCK!!!
dont buy cigarettes
The patch works great for the physical craving, better than the gum did in my case. Because every time I-d get a craving I-d chew the gum and I-d think -This sucks I want a cigarette.- But with the patch you never get the craving in the first place, except maybe in the morning when you change it.
Take vitamin B12 - C. Drink all the water you can possibly drink around the clock for 3 days without getting sick. The water and the vitamins will help flush your system quicker of the nicotine and help bring allot of crap out of your lungs. Take vitamins at suppertime or in the time of your day that you are least active with food. It will speed up withdrawl process but, also increase oxygen intake. Do 30 minutes of cardio everyday to help keep your mind off of smoking and to relieve stress so you can sleep better.
My gf-s mom just quit (been 2 weeks so far without smoking a thing) by going on medicine prescribed to her by her doctor. I don-t know what it-s called, but she said it-s very common now and to just ask your doctor.
Only in the mind.
There is a medication (prescription) called Zyban. It is also the same thing as Wellbutrin, which is marketed for depression. This medication helped me to quit. You don-t quit as soon as you start taking it. You take it and set a date about two weeks later to actually quit. I found it took the edge off and I was less nervous at the times I was used to smoking (in the car, after I ate, when I got up in the morning). I have not heard of a doctor who hasn-t approved this for a patient who has asked. You can also add the nicotine gum, patch, or lozenges to this if the pill alone isn-t enough. Give it a shot- it is definitely worth it in the end!!!
chew gum
GOOD FOR YOU!! Quitting is such a difficult endeavor. When I quit, after several attempts....I found that the only way was to just stop. Withdrawals...YOU BET!! Come on, all smokers know that smoking goes hand in hand with coffee, after you eat, when you drive, breaks at work, at bars or clubs..etc... You have to really have made the choice...no exceptions. If you can not say to yourself that you mean it, than you won-t, and you-ll undoubtedly fall off the wagon. But hey...if there-s one thing that-s worth the effort...quitting is it. Best of luck!!
Personally, I psyched myself out by choosing a specific date that I was going to stop and mentally, emotionally preparing myself for that day. When that day came, I mustered all the willpower that I had in me to stop and made it a point to engage in activities to keep me occupied and not think about smoking. It also helps to hang around non-smokers for a while until your cravings subside a bit. Chew gum. Go for a jog. Do some aerobics. Sometimes after a run, the least thing your body wants is a cigarette. Beware of activities that trigger your desire for a cigarette.
We all first quit smoke!
go to a cancer ward and sit in the hallway...once you see your life ahead, you may be motivated to change it-s course! good luck
Find someone who has to be a support/accountability/encouragement person to you. Within 72 hours, nicotine is not physically addictive. Get past 3 days, than it-s psychological. This is the tough part. Drink plenty of water to keep flushing those nasty chemicals out of you. Replace the habit of holding the cigaretter with something else (ie rubber band, pencil, pen, super ball...) Identify your trigger times and prepare yourself to do something active to distract your urge to smoke. Journal. Don;t beat yourself up if you cave in and have a smoke. Wean......cut back slowly. Set up and follow through on a reward system. Check out quitnet.com Great web for support!!!!!!!!!! You have my fullest support!
The best way is to quit cold turkey.
Most doctors offices can tell you where you can attend classes to help you.
Good for you! It isn-t easy. Nicotine addiction is very powerful -- and the cigarette companies know it, which is why they keep boosting the nicotine content of cigarettes. But it sounds as though you-re tired of being entrapped by them and want to break free. Here are a couple of things that helped me.
Quit cold turkey. The first few times I tried to quit, I made smoking as difficult as I could -- cigarettes here, matches there, ashtray somewhere else, plus using a telescoping cigarette holder that opened out to be a foot long. It was a real pain in the butt to use in the car, which was, of course, the idea. But cutting down and tapering off didn-t work out very well. I-d taper off, then bound right back up. So quitting cold turkey seemed the only way to succeed.
I treated myself to jelly beans instead of cigarettes. One jelly bean per cigarette, only you can-t chew the jelly beans, just put them in your mouth and let them dissolve. It takes just about the same length of time as a cigarette takes, and even if you eat 20 jelly beans a day you aren-t going to put on a ton of weight.
Find something to do with your hands. That was the big problem for me, and I learned to knit and crochet. Yes, guys can knit and crochet too! Or take up whittling, wood carving, fly tying or whatever strikes your fancy. But keeping your hands busy seems to be a big part of it.
And get some exercise. When I stopped, I had lung cramps (and immediately thought that after 25 years of 2-packs-per-day I-d left it too long and was coming down with lung cancer) but my doctor told me it was my lungs ridding themselves of the accumulated tars and gunk that were coating them, and I could help the process by exercising. I did, and it did help. You also aren-t tempted to smoke if you-re running, swimming or riding a bike. Or most other activities you take up. Shooting pool is about the only activity you can do while smoking, but it isn-t really very active.
Anyway, those are some of the things that helped me to quit. Hope they work for you.
Good luck to you!
carry a bag of hard candies around
whenever you get a craving pop one in

Quit smoking??? -

any tips
Smoking makes you smell bad
Mints, gum (try to stick with sugar free) and this sounds kinda weird but take a straw and cut it in half. Wrap the end with a piece of masking tape so it looks like a filter. -Smoke-, hold and do whatever you do with a cigarette with this little pretend cigarette. Remember, you are only going to quit if you really want to. Throw everything away (cigarettes, ashtray, lighters etc) and don-t cheat! You should put four or five dollars a day (or how often you bought a pack) in a jar for everyday you don-t smoke. In a few months you could treat your smoke free self with a nice vacation! Good luck!!!

It does stink really bad!
My two pennies worth:

if the first thought after waking up is to light up then it is high
time u quit.

how bad do u want to quit really depends on your health condition. if u cant hold ur breath for a few seconds(say 20 )
or cant do 20 pushups if u are a male then smoking
really messed up yr lungs. or u can do all the above then
smoking is on the way to messing u up.

Now for the good news. After u quit smoking you can really
watch your body picking up and u can do all these (pushups ,jogging, deep breathing, running up the stairs)
within three months.

After u do all these physical activities the very thought of
picking up a cig and then losing all these benefits will really
help u stop smoking.

hey who says quitting is easy.
You need a focused mind to want to see yourself through say in a month-s time. If you fail just tell yourself to pick up and move on and make a good marking in your calendar to keep track of your progress. Drink plenty of water too. Cheers.
use trhe patch or te gum
The Tobacco Industry kills more people in North America from Monday to Thursday of each week than the terrorists murdered in total on Sept. 11, 2001.... If you smoke, or someone you care about still smokes, then this may be the most important letter you will ever read click here http://clickbest.qsrnp.hop.clickbank.net/
Go cold turkey. It seems hard but after the initial withdrawal pains your nicotine addiction will be over with. You will feel kind of fuzzy. You will want to smoke to feel normal. Don-t. You only have to resist that 1 cigarette. If you don-t have it you are home free. Every day write yourself a note and put it in the same place as your cigarettes would be, ex. pocket or purse. Write a catchy phrase like, -If i don-t smoke today, I-ll have more tomorrows, etc. This will reinforce your will power. Good luck to you. I did it this way 12 years ago and it worked for me.
Hi,

How long until teeth whiten from quitting smoking? -

I finally quit smoking one week ago.

Ex-smokers I-m wondering how long it takes until I see nice white teeth from not smoking?

I-m using a whitening toothpaste and mouthwash, as well as a whitening tooth polish.. so don-t suggest whiteners thanks.
Well, when I quit for the first time, it took about 3 years with no outside help (no toothpastes that whiten, no whitening strips..). For someone that is using aids like that, it should take anywhere from 6 months to a year.
Mine never yellowed as far as I know.
I would say at least six months. Your teeth exude new enamel slowly. I read a paper just recently that said that SIDE TO SIDE brushing slows down the accretion of enamel. So only brush up and down and you might speed up the process.
Do not use heavily abrasive tooth paste.

Keep brushing, and smile!
I recommend chalk. But be sure and use white chalk, I-ve found that other colors do not typically whiten the teeth. Except pink. Pink whitens your teeth. I don-t know why.
My teeth got yellower after quitting smoking and only teeth whiteners have helped me!

Im a heavy smoker, I quit smoking 2 month ago due to chest pain, I have a problem now, Im always hungry , why? -

Im a heavy smoker, I quit smoking 2 month ago due to chest pain, I have a problem now, Im always hungry , why? -

If I dont stop eating too much now, ill die earlier of High blood pressure or overweight. My Dad is also a heavy smoker when he was my age (48) he stop smoking at the age of 70 years old, he-s now 79 and is healthy. Darn, I think ill smoke again to live longer.
Hmmm ... you WERE a heavy smoker till two months ago! Now you are no longer a slave ... but there are things about slavery that are very comforting and your body either needs to replace that with something equally comforting or you need to tell your body that -it-s OK - we are dealing with it-.

You quite likely are missing something to do with your mouth or hands or just the break while you go outside - and smoking also curbs hunger pangs.

Drink water (especially water with a touch of lemon) - have a bottle by you always and take sips. Bananas or apples are also good - they tend to send comforting signals to the stomach that allays its anxiety. What is happenning is that your stomach is telling you it-s hungry. It-s a false alarm - an anxiety symptom.

Also, avoid alcohol (maybe just for a while or in moderation) ... it weakens the will.

I don-t suppose you want to smoke again, much, so congratulations for making it this far! Stopping doing something makes us so aware of all the habits and comfort stories we tell ourselves to make us believe.

Well done for breaking out of slavery!
LOL. Your taste buds have come back and food just naturally tastes better. Smoking suppresses taste buds. Just be careful---it-s common to exchange one addiction for another. So many people DON-T quit smoking because they are afraid of the weight gain. I chewed gum--a LOT of gum for a while. Everytime I wanted a cigarette-I chewed. Kept me from eating a lot and craving a cigarette.
I tried to quit one time and gained 20 pounds.I was always wanting to eat.I started back smoking.That-s been about 10 years ago.I was never able to lose that extra 20 pounds.Like you say, being overweight is not healthy either.I guess I-ll just keep smoking.It-s a nasty habit.Wish I had never started
Oral fixation.
You are trying to replace the habit with something else. Take up some sort of hobby when thinking about eating.
no guaranties your going to live longer if you start , your chest hurts because your lungs are learning to work again and diffuse oxygen like they should ,your hungry because your no longer feeding you body-s needs with nicotine, keep allot of fruit around and healthy foods , try to refrain from fast food when your feeling starved and give it some time you-ll breath better and you will create better habits of eating , good luck
its not because you are hungry its that need to do something with your hands find something else to do chew gum or chew on a pencil just dont eat all the time
Because smoking is an appetite suppressant.
So when you quit your hunger levels go bananas.
It-s far easier to diet than quit smoking so don-t worry about stuffing your face too much.
Just stick with staying off the weed , your body will get use to the change eventually. When it does then you can think about loosing any weight you-ve put on.
It will take you about a year to really get through full effects of giving up just be patient with it.
first, good job for stopping the filthiest habit going. You can-t stop eating because you are probably bored without having something to do with your hands,eg lighting up and the actual action of smoking.I suggest you walk alot, get a dog and when you feel like eating go out.Or eat something like fruit if you are really hungry,don-t repalce one bad habit for another. You are doing great ,don-t start smoking again!!!
maybe it-s because you r eating alot bc you have something cordinating with your hand and mouth like a cigarette. try eating carrots or chewing on a straw. gl
imma a heavy smoker to and look how healthy I look
a side effect of your from your body maybe?
Congratulations! Quiting smoking can fixate anxiety on other things. Sometimes people develop this addiction to sweets, food or exercise or simply smoke again once in a while.

http://www.original-smoke-away.com/

me too. but i ended up with 3 coronary stents. ice chips
are good and non-fattening.
Smoking will kill your taste buds. From what I-ve heard from nonsmokers, the smell and taste of foods you like will intensify.
Also, smoking supresses your hunger. Instead of eating, you-ll smoke a cigarette or two til the hunger goes away.
Also an oral fixation - always wanting something in your hands or in your mouth. Try sugarless gum for that, and try to occupy yourself for a few months until the cravings of food and smoking calm.
If you-re having trouble quitting smoking, check out convenient stores, and look for these (quitting smoking filters) they-re like these little plastic tubes that make you feel like you-re smoking, without actually smoking a cigarette. I bought a 5 pack of them and it helped when I was somewhere I couldn-t light up.

Anyways, try endulging yourself in healthy foods, try to exercise a lot (to get your mind off smoking or food), just don-t look at the sugar foods, they-re bad and will eventually kill you.
Honestly, I just quit smoking 12 hours ago. I swear. I-m using nicorette to help me to reduce my craving. I really hope that I can quit as I had been smoking for about 35 years.

Glad to see that you had already quited for 2 months. Keep it up. If you can control yourself for 2 months without smoking , you can do it for another 20 mths. Don-t use any EXCUSES for going back to smoke. Excuses like -I-m hungry-, I-m putting lots of weight, etc. If you find
excuses to get back to smoke, very soon you-ll be puffing
again. Don-t. I-m telling myself daily too not to find excuses. Let-s do it together to quit smoking permanently. Good Luck to both of us.!
thats a side effect of smokin, its how some people try to get skinny, although it has the opposite effect on me as i wud eat more!! plus ur copin wit withdrawls, apparently exercisin is the best way to keep on track!!
I-ve just given up as well and am having the same problem. Apparently your body often mistakes thirst for hunger, so drink lots of water. Also do some exercise if you didn-t before and if you-re going to eat, eat fruit or something healthy. Chewing gum might work as well. Good luck!
The reason is Nicotine is a drug that has an effect in your brain. It soothes you and takes away hunger. If you are worried about your weight and illnesses that can come from overweight then my advice is to talk to your doc. Mine recommended that I divide my meals in six servings per day to speed up my metabolism. He referred me to a nutritionist that taught me how to make the best food choices. I started walking every day with a friend. It helped reduce stress and was a -substitution- to the social aspect I gave up with giving up smoking. Until you can overcome your cravings for high cholesterol foods, if you are at high risk for diabetes and your BMI is over 28, perhaps your doc will consider prescribing Xenical. It will help you lose weight but on the down side its usually not covered by insurance and can run pretty expensive. But use the money you used to spend on cigarretts to pay for it and believe me after a couple of months you will not only look better but smell better too ( - : and have better health.
Smoking actually make your stomach very full. I-ve heard my friends say that smoking can make a person slim in an unhealthy way. But i tink is normal to find hungry. Just drink lots of water and eat your proper meals.
I quit two years ago, and I put on 25 lbs. I was 31 and weighed 110 lbs so the weight wasn-t that bad. But by not smoking I found out what food really smells and tastes like and I actually enjoy so many new flavors and tastes now. But I still miss smoking and my small frame.
Good luck it-s a hard one to leave behind.
One of the many effects of smoking is that nicotine triggers a looping chemical pathway in the brain that causes the addiction. When smokers quit, this pathway stays relatively active because other substances and behaviors can also activate, or create chain reactions that can activate this pathway. This explains why oftentimes smokers exchange one addiction for another such as over eating, chocolate or gum dependency, coffee addiction, alcoholism, even obsessive exercising. All of these behaviors are an attempt to fill the void created by quitting smoking. They can also be beaten without reverting back to smoking. It takes a solid commitment to adjusting to a healthier lifestyle including dietary habits and good exercise regiments. Your physician and a nutritionist would have some helpful advice on how to completely kick the habits.

Congradulations on quitting, and good luck on staying off the cigs.

How do you quit smoking? popular way best way? -

How do you quit smoking? popular way best way? -

Both my spouse and I quit over 8 years ago using nicotine gum. I never once had a craving for a cigarette once I started chewing the gum, but I did get addicted to the gum for a few years before I was able to wean myself from it. Still, it was healthier on the lungs than smoking, and doesn-t smell bad, and is socially acceptable.
The only thing that worked for me was cold turkey. The hardest part they say is the first 72 hours of being awake...after that the smell will gross youout and you hopefully won-t be interested. You just have to deal with it for a few days but after that first week you already feel a lot better.

there is also a new drug called chantix which is supposed to actually block the part in the brain that tells you that you want one. However get ready for some crazy dream cause that-s one of the side affects.
I used the patches and that was 1+ yr ago
and still smoke free :D

LASER treatment to quit smoking?? Does it work? -

A co-worker tried that laser stop smoking technique and it seems to be working for her. Before I pony up the dough to do it myself, I was wondering if anyone else has had some experience (direct/or indirect) with this procedure? does it work?
Although I-ve never had laser treatment, I-ve went to the classes, hypnosis and also tried acupuncture. Neither worked for very long. The only way I was able to quit was the nicotine gum. It says chew it for 3 months but I chewed it for 6 and it worked.
I have been using green smoke for a while now and i can tell u its 100% a healthier alternative than smoking! no carcinogens carbon monoxide or tar, just nicotine and u can use it to ween yourself off if u like....... but the best part is it looks and feels like u are really smoking but its just water vapour!! check out the website and read up on the benefits I-m sure u will be as impressed as i was!!! u can also use this code disc10-7097 to get 10% off the price should u decide to join us green smokers lol hope this helps

I-m thinking it would very very difficult for anyone to say -Yea or Nay-....We are all a tad -different- I smoked for 20+ years, - was @ last able to stop, over 20 yrs ago...For me, it was incredibly difficult....I would encouirage you to seek out a -class;....I know, that truly sounds -silly- - that is exactly what I thought....

I was -wrong-...I took the Class, - on -Quit-Day-...I used the -Patch- as an aid, - I also went to a Hypnotist. I mention all this, becuase what -works- for one, doesn-t for another...I, -knew- I needed every bit of ammunition I could get, - NOW, I am a bonafice Non-Smoker..

I also refuse to get on any soapbox about it....It was very very hard for me, but I am walking-proof, that it is possible...

Take your time, the -nicotine- is addictive, - all the -things- that go along w/ the cigarrrettes. This is why I-m a big believer in the -Classes- Thos folks really really help you, in a gentle way....

Good Luck!
You could check out a Christian 12-step addiction recovery group. Ask a Baptist church where there is a group like this near you. Prayer can be helpful. God can help you live a better life if you want Him to. You can have a personal relationship with God by saying the prayer below. God is our Creator, all-knowing, all-powerful, eternal, holy, love. God loves us and sent us His Son, Jesus Christ, so we can go to heaven if we know and follow Him. Forever means without end -- time on and on without death. Forever is what happens after we die. Either we go to heaven and be with God forever, or we go to hell which is very bad and painful forever. The good people who are saved believers in Jesus Christ go to heaven. The bad people go to hell. We need to know and follow God in this world to get to heaven in the next world. We follow God by loving and obeying Him and loving others for Him. Jesus Christ, God-s Son, is our bridge to God. Jesus died on the cross to cancel our sins. We need to accept Jesus into our life as our Lord and Savior forever to receive God-s blessing and forgiveness plus go to heaven to be with God forever after we die. This is about being a born-again Christian. Faith in God is a gift from God. You can pray for faith in God. Just speak out and ask God for the faith to believe in Him and to follow Him. Some people find faith in God when they realize the beauty in the world is made by God. Evolution can-t explain the world-s natural beauty, for example, the parks in the world, animals, flowers, peacocks, sunsets, butterflies, rainbows, etc. After you have your faith on, you can pray a sinner-s prayer to be a born-again Christian. This prayer is very important and should be said with a sincere heart and faith in God. This is the prayer: -Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and that Jesus Christ is the sacrifice for our sins. I have done the following sins (state these out) and I pray to discontinue these sins. I pray to receive Jesus Christ into my life as my Lord and Savior forever. In Jesus- name, amen.- I-m Lutheran and I like the Baptist churches too. You could try out a Christian church and also see about their weekly Bible study group to learn about God-s will for your life. You can pray to God about your daily life and have a Christian church pray for you.

I just quit smoking a couple of days ago and now im coughing up lots of clear mucus or clear with brown flecks in it. Is this normal when you quit smoking?

Yeah ..nothing to worry as long as you are not very much uneasy. But if anything suspicious consult your nearest physician..

Just stop. If you do not want to smoke and you are doing it for yourself then this will not be a problem. Stay away from things that make you want a smoke and occupy your hands with some other creative activity.
You have to be mentally ready to do it. It will very difficult. Headaches, mood swings, (like PMS for a month lol). But it will be the best decision you could make.

I quit using the smokes that wean you off the nicotine. Then cinnamon Mentos. Why I-m not sure, but they hit the spot.
With your your strong willpower, and Little medical help.
just go cold turkey....it worked for me
Try patches! I succeeded. I haven-t smoked for half a year yet. Good luck!!
stop chew gum
by never picking up a cigarette again
This is the way my husband did it. He said on Jan. 1st he will not smoke another cigarette. He has not smoked in 4 yrs, You have to have will power and want to quit.
stop buying cigarettes flush all the ones you have left and never buy any again its just that easy don-t buy any more.
With great difficulty!!! It was the single most difficult thing I-ve ever done in my life but I am grateful that I was able to quit. Used to do 3 packs a day.... Nothing that is worth while ever comes easy.
go cold turkey...
have strong will power
visit a cancer ward at your local hospital
Smoking is really a bad habit... so go to a site like google and see the bad effects of smoking.. take a firm decision.. u cant stop it all of a sudden! so reduce the number day by day.. 4,3,2,1..... and 0! keep urselves involved in some work...something interesting! and eat something nice like sweets or popcorn ... or whatever u like and keep them in the place of smoking! this is the only remedy!

i quit 2 1/2 weeks ago, found out i am pregnant again and that was all the motivation i needed. not to say it still hasn-t been hard, but at least i have the motivation of my little one to keep me going smoke free!
I used to be a heavy smoker, then one day I decided I was ready to quit. Mainly because I had a sore throat and I just didn-t feel like smoking. Well one day turned into two which turned into three and now its been 2 months. I still crave a cigarette every now and then, and I do still smoke when I drink although I have cut back on that significantly too. But over all its almost like I-ve -forgotten- that I-m a smoker. It definitely gets easier the longer you go. Good luck and good for you!
I quit over a year ago. And by -quit- I mean I bought my last pack in August 2008. However, in January 2009, I had a couple of drags from a cigarette I bummed off someone. Since then, nothing. It is still tough, especially lately when so many things are stressing me out.

My boyfriend just quit smoking (cold turkey) on Saturday morning... what can he do to make this easier? -

What sort of things should he snack on to help with the -oral fixation- part? Carrots, grapes, what?

What kinds of teas or vitamins or herbs can he take to ease some of the anxiety or stress?

Is there some special kind of medicine or vitamin he can take to help make his lungs cleaner, faster?

Is there something he can take that will help him cough up more mucus to get it out of his system?

Are there any substitutes (non addictive) that can kinda sorta replace the nicotine addiction?

Thanks for your help.
Hot tea, sugarless gum, ONE glass of beer or wine a day (assuming he is of age), and a lot of kisses from you.

I quit with hypnosis ... all those past attempts that were pure torture were stupid. Hypnosis - accupuncture did it without any side effects or emotional diress.

If he-s really going cold turkey, the best advice is ADVIL ... Lots of water ... NO CAFINE ... He-s got to learn to meditate in 10-15 miniute increments -like he was smoking, but deep breathing instead of smoking-.
Depending on how strong the habit, one might go for nicotine patches or gum. (Gum works better on lighter habits). BE VERY CAREFUL withthe nicotine gum....it should be used only to package directions. I tried it once, and chewed it normally......made me sick.

Regular gum will help with the oral fixation. Using sugarless gum, you can avoid added calories from actually using food. He is going to be gaining some weight, though, as food will taste better and his appetite will return. He might want to start exercising to avoid this. He also needs something to keep his hands occupied...something that requires fine control and concentration. Knitting and crocheting are perfect for this, and I-ve known some men who took it up. Video games are excellent as well.

This is a tough road to go down, but it-s well worth it. Wish him the best of luck.
when i quit i would chew sunflower seeds to help try and take my mind off of smoking. it worked pretty well for me
I used Blow Pops for the oral fixation part.

He can take 5HTP, FISH OIL, B-COMPLEX,

For the cough and mucus, I suggest taking Mucinex, it works great for that.

The nicotine addiction only lasts for a few days, after that it-s all in the head. He has to find things to do to fill in the time he used to smoke. When he takes a break , what will he do now?
Anything.......but stay away from him !
okay first, good luck to him and you. it is probably going to be a long road. Chewing on straws might work, cut into small pieces, gum and so on....

As for the coughing up mucus that will do nothing for the additives in him. Nicotine leaves your body within 24hrs, most of it, after that it is mostly mental. Go to a health food store or organic store if you have on in your area and there are pills that should say stop smoking right on them. If he gets real stressed, have a cup of tea and take a breath.

All this will help but the biggest part in him quiting will most likely be you and your support.

Again good luck to both of you
cinnamin sticks from the grocery store helped with my oral fixation...but what do i know, i smoke a pack a day!
Don-t be in the same places he smoked. Rearrange the furniture, clean the carpets, drapes, everything to get the smell out. Munch on healthy snacks or a toothpick,
My doctor recommended Commit Lozenges. When he gets a craving he pops one in his mouth. It helps with the oral fixation as well as the actual addiction. Good luck to him...I plan to quit soon myself.
This method works for me and is the only money back guaranteed.
I quit smoking 2 years ago

Get the Facts
Easyway, founded by Allen Carr in 1983, has the highest independently verified 12-month success rate (75.8% for a smoker completing the program) of any quit smoking technique and a 90% satisfaction rating.

Compare Easyway to other methods and see for yourself why Easyway is called “The Cadillac of quit smoking methods.”

The Allen Carr Method
HOW THE METHOD WORKS

Using psychotherapy, the method works in the opposite way to the “willpower” method. It does not concentrate on the reasons the smoker should not smoke : the money, the slavery, the health risks and the stigma. Smokers know all that already. Instead it focuses on why smokers continue to smoke in spite of the obvious disadvantages.

It is fear that keeps smokers hooked!

Fear the smoker will have to give up their pleasure or crutch. Fear the smoker will be unable to enjoy life or handle stress. Fear the smoker will have to go through an awful trauma to get free. Fear the smoker will never get completely free from the craving.

The Method removes these fears
Smokers quit with the Allen Carr Method as happy non-smokers, not feeling deprived but with a huge sense of relief and elation that they have finally achieved what they always wanted….

TO BE FREE!

What about the terrible withdrawal pangs from nicotine?

The physical withdrawal from nicotine is so slight that most smokers don’t realise that they are addicts. What smokers suffer when they try and quit using other methods is the misery and depression caused by the belief that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch.

The Allen Carr Method removes this feeling of deprivation.
It removes the need and desire to smoke. Once the smoker is in the right frame of mind and they follow the simple instructions, the physical withdrawal from nicotine is hardly noticeable.

No Gimmicks!

The Method does not use any gimmicks, useless aids or substitutes. No nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, tabs, inhilators or nasal sprays! No needles! No lasers! No drugs! No herbs! No shock treatment!

The Allen Carr Method is successful because:

It removes the smokers’ conflict of will.
There are no bad withdrawal pangs.
It is instantaneous and easy.
It is equally effective for long-term heavy smokers and light smokers.
You need not gain weight.
You will not miss smoking.

Medical Endorsements

A personal view from Professor Judith Mackay MBE, JP, FRCO (Edin), FRCP (Lon), World Health Organisation Advisory Panel on Tobacco and Health

“I have no hesitation in supporting Allen Carr’s work. Many clinics use some of his techniques but it would appear that few do it in quite such a successful package.”

Carole Johnson, Coronary Heart Disease Prevention Unit, Tyne Tees

“his success rate was such that, when budgets allow, we continue to use Easyway for work with specific groups and individuals.”

Dr Anil Visa BSc, MBBch., FRCA, Consultant – Royal Hospitals NHS Trust – Royal London Hospital

“I have observed the Allen Carr method at first hand and have found it to be very successful and I wholeheartedly support it as an effective way to quit smoking.”

Dr William Green, Head of Psychiatric Dept, Matilda Hospital, Hong Kong

“It is a remarkable fact that Allen Carr, on his own admission a non-professional in behaviour modification, should have succeeded where countless psychologists and psychiatrists holding postgraduate qualifications have failed, in formulating a simple and effective way to stop smoking.”

Dr Martin Jarvis, Principle Scientist, Imperial Cancer Research
Fund and Reader in Health Psychology, University College London

”...I am more than happy to testify to Allen Carr’s enduring involvement and to recognise the value of the kind of behavioural and cognitive support he provides.”

Dr PM Bray MB CH.b., MRCGP

“I was really impressed by the method. In spite of the Allen Carr organisation’s success and fame, there were no gimmicks and the professional approach was something a GP could readily respect. I would be happy to give a medical endorsement of the method to anyone.”

Celebrity Endorsements

-His method is absolutely unique, removing the dependence on cigarettes, while you are actually smoking. I’m pleased to say it has worked for many of my friends and staff.”
Sir Richard Branson

“Some friends of mine who had stopped using Allen Carr’s method suggested I tried it. I did. It was such a revelation that instantly I was freed from my addiction. Like those friends of mine, I found it not only easy but unbelievably enjoyable to stay stopped.”
Sir Anthony Hopkins

GOOD LUCK
SUGARLESS GUM AND MAKEING SOMETHING WITH YOUR HANDS TO KEEP BUSY
Just keep busy. When you-re busy then it-s not as bad. Yard work or other projects that he can do will help.
CHOCOLATE!!
chewing gum, and keeping busy helps, and green tea, garlic, and natural juices, especially cranberry juice are excellent for detoxifying the blood and lungs.
Quitting smoking is extremely difficult. The withdrawl makes us not want to, but we know the risks and we know that they are not worth it. For anyone who wants to end their nicotine addiction, check out www.stopsmokingcleveland.com. This is the MOST effective method on the market. It is 86% effective and the details of the program are on the website (no signing up or submitting your information).

I tried this program and it changed my life.
do alot of activities that will make him forget to smoke, like renting the whole series of a tv show that he likes, or sports or anything
Good luck to him....it-s a tough road ahead....try keeping a toothpick in his mouth. I know it looks red neck, but if helps....

Also try brushing the teeth really good when that -Urge- for a cig is really strong.

And for you sweetheart, be patient with him, he-s going to be grouchy!!!
The Good News is that he quit. I did the same last year.

The bad news is that it doesn-t get easier for awhile. The first five months you crave and although I am told it is mental it doesn-t feel that way.

He should stay of way from places and things that he normally enjoyed a cig. For instance I had to let go coffee because I normally smoked while drinking coffee.

He will always crave a ciggerette. For years (I Hear) but it won-t always be that strong pull. And soon he will be able to smell just how nasty smokers smell and that will make him stay away too.

Quitting really depends on the just how badly you want it. If you are just quitting because you think you should then you may not make it. You have to WANT to quit. And nothing but that will make this stick. Not gum not sticks not patches.
Herb.
I chewed gum. The main problem I had was with my hands. I needed something to -fiddle- with. I used a new, unsmoked, pipe. Something he can keep in his pocket, that he can take out and just play with. Pen, pencil, something like that. The mucus will probably quit in a few days.

I want to quit smoking and lose weight. Any advice? -

I-ll admit that I do live too sedentary of a life. I am just concerned about trying to make these two difficult changes at the same time.
One idea:

When you want a cigarette, go for a 15 min walk. Research shows that walking will help curb your nic fit.

There are many other ways to lose weight, so to be general here is the three keys to your success. Caloric restriction (do not go below about 1200 calories a day), cardio, and strength training. Meet with a personal trainer for the first time so you can asses your current fitness level. This will help for a smooth transition into a workout routine. I know a personal trainer can get expensive, but one session won-t strech you too far.
Get alot of gum and healthy foods, and dont forget to exercise like most. 2 of the hardest things to do, and at the same time. Good Luck.
Some say weight can/retention is related to stress, and stress might be a problem as you attempt to quit smoking. Furthermore, smoking can decrease lung capacity and such, and can make it harder to exercise. You should focus on quitting smoking first, as it presents health risks that could hinder your journey to weight loss.

They make gum, patches, and all sorts of things for smokers. Also, simply slowly reducing the amount you smoke each day (or each week, if you want to do it slowly) will help. Just keep in mind that it-s a conscious choice on your part. No medication or aid will *make* you stop smoking. If you really want to quit, and you try, you should be able to succeed.

Obesity : This is due to :

1. Malfunctioing of Thyroid/Parathyroid gland and late on other endocrine
glands e.g. malfunctioning of Pineal gland leads to retention of water and
excess water in the body and leads to excess fat.

2. Underworking of Sex glands mainly in ladies after delivery of a child.

3. Overeating i.e. taking more calories than required by the body.

C U R E :

Take minimum 3 liters water in a day.

Take Acupessure treatment on all endocrine glands twice daily.

2. During pregnancy and after delivery, take treatment on all the endrocrine
glands. After delivery, increae heat in the body, take the acupressure
treatment.

3. Drink charged gold/silver/copper water daily two glasses reduced from 4
glasses.

4. Drink hot to lukewarm water only during the day and always after meals.

5. In the morning in one glass of hot water add juice of half a lemon and one
tablespooful of honey. Drink it. That will reduec the desire to eat/drink
sweets.

6. Chew food at least 15 minutes

7. Drink 3 to 5 cups of green juice a day adding 1 teaspoonful of health drink
to each cup. This will help to reduce the body very fast WITHOUT ANY SIDE
EFFECTS.

8. Eat plenty of salads adding 100 grams of sprouted cereals like Mung. Also
eat two seasonal fruits + 1 glass of buttermilk.

9. Avoid all food if possible. However, in spite of the above diet, if you
feel very hungry, take preparations of only wheat or only rice. That will
rduce the intake of food. But eat this food only when you are very hungry.

10. Do Pranayam + Ling Mundra + Jogging+Skipping+swimming + Acupressure.

NOTE :

EXCESS WEIGHT :

In the case of females, damage to endocrine glands of Thyroid/Parathyroid is very common. Moreover, their Sex glands are damaged during pregnancy or delivery because of worry. And so when these two endocrine glands do not function properly, these women start putting on weight more around the waist. Because of damage to these two endocrine glands, sometimes even Pineal gland is damaged and so there is more retention of water in the body, which is also one of the reasons for excess weight.

When such patients come, their obese figure obviously shows their problem which can be confirmed by pressing on point nos. 8, 11 to 15 and no. 3. At this time of checking, it is advisable to check other endocrine glands too, so you can locate any further damage, if any. for cure, first it is necessary to treat these two endocrine glands for 15/20 days and only then start dieting and treatment on not only these two endocrine glands but also on the other endocrine glands. I have treated many cases, where the weight loss was from 2/3 kgs to 10 kgs per month. Once the weight has reached normal then ask the patients to continue Acupressure treatment and they will be able to maintan their weight and pleasing figure.

Regarding smoking= Until-unless if not increase your will-power, it is not possible to quit smoking. So again follow these :

Depression, Tension - Increase of will-power.

Increasing the will-power : Our mind has a great effect on these glands. For example, continuous fear damages the Pituitary gland and makes one timid. Similarly, tension and worry disturb the Pineal gland and so leads to high B.P. and as Pineal gland controls other glands it also disturbs other glands and digestive system. In modern times, strees-tension or worry-fear have increased and they often disturb these endocrine glands. If these endocrine glands are not treated immediately, it might lead to malfunctioning of other glands of the body. As these glands are interrelated, whenever one gland is disturbed, the other glands also get disturbed. So, when you press on the points of these endocrine glands you will feel pain on points of more than one gland especially in case of chronic diseases. Therefore, it is very improtant to give Acupressure treatment on all the endocrine glands and keep them under proper control.

These glands also control the mind (the will-power). So in order to get rid of bad habits like smoking, drinking, drug addiction or even overeating, it is extremely necessary to give treatment on all endocrine glands for at least, fifteen days. Because, these people lack the necessary will-power to give up bad habits, they often break their vows to stop such bad habits and so they are considered unreliable. However, a treatment of fifteen days will give them necessary will-power to stop these bad habits after that. And they will be free from the withdrawal symptoms of stopping these bad habits.

Nervous tension : In the modern days because of fast life and loss of contentment, nervous tension keeps on building up increasingly, tending to damage our mind and health.

How to find out : Ask the patient to lie down on the back and ask some one to press on the base of the middle toe in both the legs. If there is a hurting sensation,it means nervous tension. If the hurting is unbearable, it means that the person is on the verge of collapse and needs immediate attention.

C U R E : (1) While the patient is lying on the back, bend all the toes of both legs, backward. It may hurt but give little more pressure and bend them as much as possible. Repeat this three times a day till the tension is removed.

(2) Clasp your hands tightly interlocking the fingers. Then with left hand fingers press on the back of the right hand and then with right hand fingers, press on the back of the left hand. repeat for about 1 to 2 minutes, 3 to 4 times a day.

(3) Insomnia : The above mentioned treatment can be taken for 5 to 12 minutes at night in bed to ensure good sleep and cure insomnia.

(4) Take 2 glasess of gold/silver/copper charged water reduced from 8 glasses of water daily.

(5) Kali Phos 1 m (a Biochemic medicine) : Take 8 pills in the eveining between 8 to 9 p.m. for 10 days, then once a week. After 10 days Kali Phos 12 x 4+4 pills every day. Complete course is of 45 days.
How quickly do you want to lose weight? If you-re not in a hurry, just don-t eat more than 3x a day, eat slowly and stop when you-re full, and exercise! - you can-t avoid this if you really want to lose weight in the right manner.

About smoking, I-m afraid I can-t help you there. I-m a smoker myself and I don-t know how to stop.
I found that quitting smoking was easier when I had a real motivator to keep me focused. When I quit 15 years ago I had my boyfriend help me with getting out and walking as much as possible and I wrote out a list of all the reasons I had to quit - it was a long list because I wrote down every last little thing I could think of. Any time I felt like having a smoke I took out the list and read it a couple times - it was so long that the cravings usually were gone by the time I finished. I sucked on lollipops and chewed gum to help with the -mouthing- cravings.

Unfortunately I started smoking again years later because I thought I could have just one when my fiance (one of those annoying occasional smokers ;-) !) had a pack. Stupid mistake! I ended up smoking for another 5 years until I got pregnant - but being pregnant was motivation enough and I now know that I can never just have one - if I do I will be right back to smoking again.

Trying to do both will be tough and could sabotage both plans. I agree with the other folks here to quit smoking first and worry about the weight later. You may gain a few pounds after you quit (I gained 10 - 15 lbs. each time) but it was easier to lose the weight after because I could do cardio without gasping for air every few minutes!

Try eating five small meals a day to keep your metabolism up and stave off the hunger pangs which can lead to over eating.

Walk as much as you can while quitting, too. It will help get you in better shape in preparation for your weight loss later. Try to do at least 20 minutes a day, if you can, and work up from there. Get a friend involved to help motivate you to get out there and move your feet.

Believe me - if I can quit smoking, you can too!

Good luck!
Don-t try to do both at the same time. You are just setting yourself up for failure. Try Chantix for the quitting smoking. It-s expense ($115.00 a month) but it-s helped a lot of people. Maintain your current weight by walking after dinner and small exercise improvements like that. After you-ve been smoke free for a few months, then set up your diet and more rigorous exercise plan. Good luck to you!!!
For smoking, you may want to find out if any hospitals or clinics near you offer hypnosis. I have a co-worker who tried it, even though he was VERY skeptical, and after one treatment he put the cigarettes down for good and hasn-t picked them up since. It-s been three years and he has been smoke-free. The good news is a lot of health insurance plans cover all or most of the cost of hypnosis to quit.

If you want to quit, regardless of how you do it, leading a more healthy lifestyle will help. Eating right and exercising are your two best and only effective weapons in the quest to lose weight. Going on a diet for a while or taking pills is only a temporary fix -- you may lose weight but then you-ll gain it all back once you stop the diet or the pills. The key is to make permanent changes in your eating and exercise habits that will knock the weight off and keep it off.

Here are a few tips:

1. You MUST exercise if you want to lose weight and keep it off, so do something every day, even if it’s just a 15-minute walk around the neighborhood. Don’t say you don’t have time for exercise; you have to MAKE time. Yes, it takes time and effort, but you’re worth it, right?

2. Walk as much as you want, but don’t do cardio for more than 40 minutes at a time. If you do, you risk burning muscle instead of fat.

3. If you do strength training, use light weights and do lots of repetitions. That’ll really help you “tone up.”

4. Your diet will make you or break you. You have probably learned bad eating habits over time (most people do). That’s not your fault, but now you have to deal with it. Make a commitment to yourself to unlearn those bad habits and re-learn better habits.

5. Eat breakfast every day within an hour of getting up. People who don’t are 450% more likely to be overweight.

6. Eat six small meals or snacks per day instead of three squares per day or one big meal per day. Your body expends energy digesting your food, so eating smaller portions more often keeps your metabolism running high because you’re constantly digesting food.

7. Avoid these as much as possible:

-- Trans fat (any type of partially or fully hydrogenated oil)
-- High fructose corn syrup (soft drinks are LOADED with it)
-- Fast food
-- Junk food
-- White sugar, white flour, white rice, white potatoes
-- The deadly C’s (cookies, cakes, candy, chips, cola)

8. Build your diet around these trim-body-friendly foods:

-- Nuts, any kind (almonds are best)
-- Beans/Legumes
-- Fresh vegetables (green is GREAT!!!)
-- Dairy products (as long as they’re low-fat or non-fat)
-- Eggs
-- Lean meats (fish and poultry top the list)
-- Olive oil
-- Whole grain breads/cereals/pasta
-- Fresh fruits (anything that ends in “berry” is a winner)
-- Tea (green tea or black pekoe tea)
-- Cold water or ice water (your body has to expend extra calories to heat it up)

9. Desserts and treats are the exception, not the rule. Having said that, however, (1) you can have a couple of pieces of chocolate every day – just don’t overdo, and (2) Allow yourself one “cheat meal” every week where you eat and drink whatever you want as long as you don’t gorge yourself. That’ll help keep you from feeling deprived and it’ll make it easier to stick with your new healthy eating plan.

Good luck!
Stop smoking first then worry about your weight.
Smoking is more important to stop.
Weight can wait until after you-ve completed the first!
Keep something in your hands as much as possible. Water bottles have worked for me. Make sure you walk when you can. Make it a habit. Bust out the Ipod and get into some music helps. Food wise, everyone is different. Fiber is important. Natural like from veggies and some real bran mixed with liquid can take off some pounds.
Smoking? Patches but then don-t skimp on food. Go see a Doctor if you can. GUM! Keep the parts of the body busy with diversions. Replace the smokes and food with some different choices.

Mostly it is patience and commitment you have to stick to. For both together it can be hard. Also try and get some friends on board to support your efforts. Staying alone is the worst for quitting anything. Best of luck.
I use the nicotine inhaler....it-s by rx only in the states but it-s cheaper than buying cigs at $4.50/pack, right? It costs about $160 for 168 of them (unless you have insurance) and you would probably use 10 per day....I didn-t/haven-t gained any weight but haven-t lost any either. I also live a sedentary life so I know where you-re coming from! Good luck and try out the inhaler, really....it works!!!

its a horrible horrible habit, especially considering im only 15, i started smoking this summer...cause all of my friends in Russia were smoking, i tried, and i didn-t stop. my boyfriend also smokes but he wants me to stop... and i want to, so can i just quit smoking in one day? or do i have to did it step by step, like less everyday?
I quit cold turkey. it was hard, but I was so over smoking it just worked. I think you really truely have to want to stop and dislike it enough to be sucsessful in any process of quitting.
Wahooooo! Good work. Keep it going!!

if you want to quit badly enough, then yes, you can. you have only been smoking for a very short time. all you need to do is just not buy anymore. i only smoked for a little while, less than a year, and it really wasn-t a problem quitting. you do need to stop soon though. i witnessed my uncle die from lung cancer, and it was a horrible process to watch. your are very young and deserve to live a long life without intentionally adding to the dangers we all face everyday. good luck!
Ha that-s funny ...No
But if you get like a patch, some gum, and always have like pretzels or something to munch on you could probably quit so start cutting back on the cig-s and you could do it!Also try to get some support cuz that always helps.GOOD LUCK!!!!
you can quit smoking and start vaporizing

Very natural specially if you-ve quit during the fall and winter seasons.

You-re on the correct path and your body is proof and telling you that we are expelling the **** that has entered the body through smoking etc.

Getting the flu or cold is an indication that your immune system is working heavy and it is expelling some of the toxins out of the body. It-s like sweating during an exercise.

Well done on quiting smoking.
im just guessing ur body is getting used to the nicotine absence. somehow the nicotine and other toxic in the cigarette maintains ur bodies antibodies and immune system, thus by removing that, the body thinks u are safe and thus lowers the immune system. and then u easily get the flu and cold. dont worry, its nothing, but if u keep on having the cold, try seeing ur GP, he might give u some drugs/antibodies maybe some nicotine patches might work.
yes becuz your body is adjusting to no ciggies. you will be fine!

I-m just wondering how i can quit smoking without professional help..
I-ve tried before and failed.. what-s some tips you can give me to give this nasty habit up?

I need some will power!
Here-s something to `inspire- you (lol); every cigarette takes 5 mins. off your life.
Hi,
I used a drug called -Champix- it was brilliant, i used to smoke 30 a day and i quit within 3 weeks, no cravings or anything, just missed using my hands so i bought lollie pops, quit smoking now for nearly a year.
the good news is that i now have been quit for over 5 years.. i quit trying to quit alone, and joined a support group.. i attend nicotine anonymous meetings both locally and on line.. on line voice meetings are he as close as your computer, and you can attend while still smoking, before actually attempting a quit.. however you decide to quit good luck, there is simply no wrong way to quit!!

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.
EasyQuit System is definitely the answer. I say so because I used it and quit for good. Before that, I was smoking for 9 years.

It is a book. You can access to it through the link below.

I successfully quit without even finishing reading it. I definitely recommend it to you.
I-ve tried just about every method there is out there and there is only one I can recommend - NLP! It eliminates the cravings.
Gum patches and all the other just did not cut it for me, not to mention cold turkey which was the hardest, I even tried the electric cig and it is just no match to the real thing.

it’s the one that got me off the cigs and smoke free for GOOD even without gaining weight! :)

Good luck kicking the habit!
Matthew.
Hello, I-ve never smoked in my life but I-ve seen people overcoming this bad habit in a lot of ways. My dad, first of all, quitted smoking. Well, unfortunately he was forced to quit smoking because there were signs taht he-s gonna get cancer or something if he continues.

The most effective, i think, is to just put your attention to other things you enjoy. People normally say redirecting your attention to another thing; in this case, you cannot. If you get redirected into something stressful, you-d just be forced to smoke to calm down too. So just keep on doing things you enjoy (cooking, watching tv, playing with your pet, sports) and with a little self control and self-confidence, like dieting, you-ll be able to do it :) good luck!

There-s nothing you can do solely.. My dad has smoked since I was born (19yrs) and he still wo-t stop.. He saw his aunt on her death bed gasping for breath on life support getting ready to die and that still wasn-t enough.(she died from smoking).. It-s all up to the person, you cannot force someone to quit. Sry.
Its important to remember that your dad has to want to quit smoking . Its not something they will do just by telling them not too.
You could tell him you are concern about his health if he continues to smoke . And that you want him to be around to see you grow up and be there for you and everyone else.
When he realizes that he starts having health problems and that some of them could be because of his smoking only then will he probably quit at one point .
Or he just doesn-t care and continues to keep smoking .
Yes, keep telling him that the smell makes you sick. Every time he smokes in your presence. Explain to him that second hand smoke is dangerous for your health, and it will be better for his health not to smoke any more. Then help him to get the patch or get some help from his Doctor. And be supportive when he decides to quit. Not smoking in the house or car will be of great help It can take some time, but it will be the best thing he has ever done for himself and his family. Best of luck. Remind him that many have been successful in quiting, and he will be too. God bless you
You can`t, he has to want to quit himself. You might suggest that it is not good for every else to inhale his smoke and maybe he would like to smoke in the garage or outside to protect his love ones.
Speaking from experience (both of my parents were heavy smokers throughout my entire childhood - and my mother still is), he will not quit until he-s ready. You can beg him, buy him smoking cessation products, show him photos of nasty lungs, read him statistics, and you can even try to guilt him... but all it will do is frustrate the both of you.

What you can do however is ask him to compromise with you. Tell him you will not nag him if he will resolve not to smoke in your presence - especially in the house and car.
The patch. If he tries to smoke while on the patch he will feel nauseated and could vomit.
I feel for you honey - but unless it is important to him it is not going to happen. I would suggest that instead of lecturing him or berating him you sit down and talk with him and tell him WHY it is so important to you and ask him if he would at least try - and tell him you will help him by maybe going for a walk with him when he feels that urge to light one up, or get him some flavored toothpicks to chew on instead of smoking. And buy him a box of nicotine patches. Maybe all of these things will work for you.
Give him the facts of what smoking can do, show him a video of a person with no voice box because of smoking, or help him find a support group. My dad just quit smoking after 46 years of doing it. He also had to have a quadruple bypass, smoking was partly to blame. As a smoker myself and after watching my dad please keep in mind you can not force anyone to quit, the person must want to as well or it will not work. And if he does decide to quit, understand there will be mood swings during the process, its all from withdrawls. Look at the national cancer society website, they may have ideas to help. Your local hospital or doctors office may also have tools to use to help him quit.
No, sorry. My dad smokes too and when I was younger i tried to get him to stop and I told him how bad it was and how I didn-t like it but he never did take my advise. So your dad probably won-t listen to you either.
Yes...hide his smokes under the dirty clothes...
Cough whenever he lights up.
tell him when he smokes you smoke
show him pictures of people with bad cancer who are smokers they are something else
Ask him to go and get a chest x-ray. Bring a copy home and show it to him every time he wants a smoke. I smoked since I was 15 and I am 55- I have been smoke free for 4 years= I keep that x-ray as a reminder. For every years you quit your lungs recover. Guilt doesn-t work, reality does.
Good Luck
maybe just tell him how you care about him
It-s rather hard isn-t it? My mom smokes and my brotehr and I are constantly on her about it. The only thing I can suggest is -- Don-t try. I know it may not be the answer you-re looking for, but trust me. For one, they get really agitated with the nagging. htey have to be able to quit at their own pace, if you make them do it, there-s a really good chance they will find some way to do it again. however, do it indescreetly. Ask them to exercise with you, or -join- you on a diet plan to get fit. Once that someone is exercising, they may find that they don-t need to smoke anymore.
idk my moms smoking too she keeps making up stuff. im tired of it. just dont talk to him when hes smoking and ignore him give him the cold shoulder. i hope he quits good luck.
You can-t get anyone to do anything that they don-t want to do. let him know how special it would be if he could stop smoking and then just leave it alone. When he decides FOR HIMSELF that he should stop smoking then he will.
Does anyone have any advice about how to get your dad to quit smoking? -
