I used to smoke about 25 cigarettes daily, in the weekends even double.
One day I just told myself it-s too much and I thought about reducing them gradually, with the final purpose to quit smoking. I planed to smoke the first week no more than 15 cigarettes daily and reduce every week another 5 cigarettes/day.
This didn-t help me. I needed more than 15 cigarettes / day and some days I couldn-t abstain myself from smoking even more than I smoked usually.

What really helped me quit smoking was my decision to stop immediately. No more cigarettes, no more -reducing strategies-.
I remember it was Monday. The first days were awful and I expected to be this way. I slept a lot the first 2 days, my energy level was very low, I had headaches and I was only thinking a cigarette could make me feel better.
But no. I resisted the temptation and after first week things were straighten up. I must tell you that I still felt the desire to smoke months after I quit.
The temptation is big, so you need to have a good motivation.
Mine was -my health-, at which I didn-t thought too much in the past.
Good luck.
There-s no way around it. Smoking is bad for your health. Smoking harms nearly every organ of the body. Cigarette smoking causes 87 percent of lung cancer deaths. It is also responsible for many other cancers and health problems. These include lung disease, heart and blood vessel disease, stroke and cataracts. Women who smoke have a greater chance of certain pregnancy problems or having a baby die from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). The are many site www.amazon.co.uk/Allen-Carrs-Easy-Stop-S…
I to am getting ready to kick the habit. People I have spoke with that have smoked 20 + years ,tell me chantax works. It helps by making the cravings go away and the cigarettes start tasting horrible. Everyone I know who has quit with chantax has success.Good luck to you.
well, i know chantix helped a lot of people that i know of. But i think you have to have the willpower to stop. goodluck.

i know you can do it.
I-ve never smoked, but I know a friend who quit using chocolate....lots and lots of chocolate (in particular, chocolate fingers because they are similar to the shape of a cigarette).
I Printed out those pictures of people who are suffering from various cigarette smoking diseases..
Nicotine patches
Do something else instead
Go to doctor and see what they Prescribe

Will i gain weight automatically if i quit smoking? -

Will i gain weight automatically if i quit smoking? -

ive heard you gain 10-20 pounds when u quit. i was very overweight and now I am just right, I am very worried. why do you gain when you quit? WHY....is there anyway to not gain weight?
The 2 main reasons that people gain weight when they quit smoking are 1: due to the slight slowing down of the body-s metabolism when there-s no nicotine around, and 2. some people replace smoking with food.
There are a lot of other factors, such as exercise and emotions, but unfortunately the latest research to hit the headlines distorts the real truth, and that is much more pleasant. Remember so much research is done or funded by biased parties, so take everything with a grain of salt and look at the rational aspects of it. The rational facts about smoking and weight are here, plus some great free advice to follow:
http://www.quitguide.com/smoking-and-wei…

just if you replace smoking with eating, try replacing smoking with carrot sticks or gum to cure oral fixation
hi from experience i will say yes because i quit for 3 weeks and gained 4 lbs. so i started smoking again now im back down to 105. anyways. my aunt stopped smoking i believe not for certain but 5 years ago, she used to be a size 4 now she is like a size 16 i mean maybe its time gaining weight but i believe smoking made her gain weight because she ate more.

i ate more also i duno why.
Usually it-s more out of eating more. It-s about the oral fixation, and some folks will eat more to give them something to do with their mouths.
The other thing is that sometimes smoking helps speed your metabolism somewhat.
Most people seem to eat more after they quit smoking. It -fills the void- of the habit.
Just keep that in mind and find activities to keep you busy. I found the best way to quit was to change the routine I had when I was smoking. Like after you eat, get away from the table and do something. Or while driving. Find something else to occupy you. A water bottle, conversation, anything. You-ll find you have more energy anyway, and will want to do other activities rather than smoking... good luck!

What is the best way to quit smoking? -

Its not just the nicotine. Its also the other 50+ chemicals they out in cigarettes. Also the main problem is habit.
We have been used to having body sensations which we translate as -my body needs something, which we have attempted to satisfy by having a cigarette.
When we try to stop smoking, we still get these -my body needs something- sensations, and we still feel that we want a cigarette. We have to train our body to be more selective. When we feel we need something, we have to work out what it is that we actually need.
A glass of water is an excellent substitute if nothing else comes to mind, as it helps with the clearance of the toxic substances in our body. Another good substitute is a bag of salted peanuts, used in combination with the water.
Another thing to do is to find an activity which occupies the mind or body. Go swimming - nobody wants to smoke while they are swimming. Slowly, as our body adjusts and translates the -want something- feelings into something other than cigarettes, then the feelings begin to go away. We know its not a cigarette that the body really needs, because as soon as we-ve had one we still have the feeling, and want another!
Ijust quit cause I got sick of it and then my hubby quit right after both cold turkey. I still crave it though I just don-t buy them.
Everyone, I know who has made a sucess of it, has gone cold turkey on smoking. But not everyone can do that. If I knew this answer, I would get my husband to quit. Some people need help when it comes to quitting. They have over the counter gum, and if that doesn-t help, then see your doctor if you can-t quit on your own and you are serious. They can prescibe medication to help you stop.
Extinguish cigarette. Never light up another.
start drinking

How do i quit smoking? -

ive gotten down to about 3 cigerettes a day ive had quit times where i quit for two days but when i try to not pick up the cigerette it hurts so bad cravings are intense they last for hours what do i do
Hi Cabell..

been there done that.. tried to quit a bunch of ways.. to cut to the chase, the only thing that worked for me was getting involved with a support group.. found out i wasn-t alone, and folks had beat this thing.. not only that but they told me how to do it.. including beating the cravings..

i attend nicotine anonymous meetings both locally and online.. meetings are as close as your computer.. however you decide to proceed good luck there is really no wrong way to quit..

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.

Every time your not smoking a cigarette you-ve quit smoking. the actual withdrawal form cigarettes is not that bad, you go for 8 hours without any cigarettes when you sleep. nicotine has a short half life in the body just stop cold turkey. weaning yourself off is bad because it makes the cravings worse , it makes each cigarette seem 10X better than it really is.
Smoking is a horrible habit. I quit a 2 pack a day habit using an electronic cigarette. They are amazing. The last time I had a traditional cigarette was an hour before I got my e-cig in the mail. I have not had the desire to smoke a traditional cigarette ever since. They don-t stink at all and you can smoke them indoors at bars and restaurants. I feel a million times better now. Here is a link to the company I buy from. They have one of the best reputations in the e-cig world and great prices. Good luck on your journey to a healthier you.

Urgent Help Needed. I am searching for a Anti-Nicotine chemicals or substance for Quit Smoking? -

I want to know about anti-nicotine chemicals or medicine to cure myself to quit smoking. Due to habit of smoking. I have tried so many time to quit, but can-t succeed. I have tried all the options like alternate of smoking by chewing gum, chocolates, controlling myself on craving, thinking about something else. But nothing could be worked, So finally I am searching for Anti-Nicotine substance to take out a nicotine from my body and blood. Please Help. Your suggestions would be appreciated. Please Give me a solution. Thanks in Advance.
Nicotine Addiction Medications

NICOTINE REPLACEMENT PRODUCTS provide nicotine without smoking. This helps to lessen the body-s craving for nicotine and to reduce withdrawal symptoms. Replacement products come in several forms: gum, patch, nasal spray, inhaler and lozenge. Nicotine gum, patch and lozenges can be bought over-the-counter. The nasal spray and inhaler (brand name Nicotrol) require a doctor-s prescription.

BUPROPION (brand names Zyban or Wellbutrin) is an antidepressant drug that can be used to help some people stop smoking. It is taken as a pill and requires a doctor-s prescription. Although it does not contain nicotine, it can help people resist the urge to smoke. Bupropion is often used for 7-12 weeks, beginning 1 or 2 weeks before smoking is stopped. It can be used for smoking cessation maintenance for up to six months. Side effects may include insomnia and dry mouth.

VARENICLINE (Chantrix) - is the first treatment that specifically targets the neurobiological mechanism of nicotine dependence. Studies show that the drug successfully stimulates dopamine (the brain-s pleasure chemical) and blocks nicotine receptors. This reduces nicotine withdrawal symptoms and cravings, helping to prevent a full relapse. The drug also blocks the effects of nicotine if you begin to smoke again.

Chantix is a prescription medication sold in tablet form. It is generally prescribed for 12 weeks. If you quit smoking during that time, your doctor may prescribe Chantix for another 12 weeks to enhance long-term success. Side effects may include nausea, vomiting, gas, headache and insomnia.

Researchers found Chantix to be more effective than a placebo in helping people quit smoking. In two studies, Chantix helped more people quit smoking than did bupropion (Zyban) ? the only other nicotine-free drug used as a quit-smoking aid.

Foulds J, Steinberg MB, Williams J, et al. -Developments in pharmacotherapy for tobacco dependence: past, present and future.-
Try the new smoking cessation drug Chantix. It blocks the part of the brain that craves nicotine and is not a psychiatric drug like Wellbutrin. I-ve tried it and the ironic thing is you can smoke but cigarettes will taste so bad you won-t need to. Good Luck.
I quit by using the Nicoderm CQ system. Cuts the cravings - weans you off the nicotene.
I also would recommend Chantix. I have heard it really works. Its expensive but so are cigs.
this is not a problem u just think once why should i live without this smoke and close u r face with u r palms breath deeply when u got the nicotine smell u r Brain hates nicotine slowly u r going leave the habit that-s it try it best of luck

Well, im only 16 and have only been smoking for 2 years.. I need help lol
Any tips?? I dont have alot of money as im just finishing school
Only 16?? and you are smoking!!! Just kidding. i-m not judging you. I have been quitting for months now. hahaha! well i have been a smoker for years and i just recently found these awesome Smokeless cigarettes that give me my nicotine but i don;t get the bad breath, the tar and the other stuff in the smoke. These things are awesome. I bought them about two weeks ago and i haven-t had a real cigarette since. check them out. they are def worth it and they are cheaper than cigarettes.
get nicotinel chewinggums. you know when you smoke your body gets used to the nicotine which stores in your skin and hair and when you get a cig you get nicotine but also smoke which is bad for your lungs. so just get nicotinel chewinggum so you get the nicotine your body needs and no lung cancer and that
try not to get a lot of stress and do more outside activities. play football, do sports and keep yourself busy
gud luck =]
Cinnamon!!

Soak toothpicks in Cinnamon oil and chew on those whenever you want a cigarette or chew on the Cinnamon stick itself! The stick is about as big as a cigarette so it makes it feel like your smoking or something!!

It works!

Good luck!!
Figure out what it is that triggers your need to smoke, and try to prevent those situations. Cold turkey is what worked for me.
replace smoking with chewing gum.
lots and lots of gum...

Will I always think about a cigarette when I quit smoking? -

And will it be so hard to say no?
Depends. Some people aren-t addicted and have no withdrawal symptoms at all -- hopefully you-ll be one of them. Most people, though, will think of nothing else for quite some time and have periodic cravings which reach a peak at 3-5 days and then get better gradually.

One thing I can tell you -- if you give into temptation and slip just once the whole thing will be over -- you-ll go back to right where you before you stopped and lose all that good work. So remember that and don-t say to yourself -I can sneak just one!-
I have -quit- several times. And according to a number of people you will think about cigarettes for a very long time after quitting. Take advantage of today-s technology try an electronic cigarette. These things are pretty cool. They simulate the experience of smoking. They are not for everyone but they could help you out.
After I quit I only ever really smoked when I drank, my boyfriend smokes - I would constantly be bumming his. I had to finally quit cold. i made our house non-smoking so now boyfriend smokes in garage. It has been over a year and I still think about having one every now I-m not really even around it. Its not worth the health problems to smoke.
from time to time , it is really hard i tend to give up for years then smoke loads for a month and stop again completey for years . the worst thing seems to be that the less you smoke the more you enjoy smoking
UNFORTUNATELY YES...........
possibly -talk to your doctor about Chantix.

Ok I now this sounds crazy but when I quit smoking I had headaches all the time as well for like 9 days straight and no advil or tylenol could get rid of it...I was told deep breathing and chewing gum. As well as to increase my vitamin B intake. It worked for a few days for me but I fell back on the wagon.

Quit smoking? -

I have quit smoking for 18 days now and I am going crazy reason I could last this long is because I could remember how disgusting it was to smoke but since my mouth is watery now (always) and I feel clean overall I forget the disgusting feeling I had before and I want to go back... what can I do to get this thought out of my head ?
Practice the 5 D-s:
1. Drink Water
2. Distract
3. Delay
4. Discuss
5. Deep Breathe

Ever heard of Nicotine Anonymous? There are face to face (f2f) meetings in many parts of the country. If there are none in your area, you can attend regularly scheduled meetings several times a day on the internet.
If you don-t have a mic, you can type share.
I am including a link below that will take you where you need to go to join VOICES OF NICOTINE RECOVERY, an online Nicotine Anonymous Yahoo group.
They have a meetings from early in the morning until late at night, and all day long on holidays.

Go there an join the group. You can post (vent) on the board there, as well as attend meetings. There are MANY people there who can relate to what you are going through and can give you their ESH. (Experience, strength, and hope.)
Only hanging around people who DON-T smoke has worked the best for my husband. To be honest though, that craving may never go away: my father quit over 25 years ago and still craves a smoke every now and then (particularly when he-s around people who smoke). He keeps gum with him at all times, which he says really helps keep him from giving in!
If the symptoms are troubling too much, you may go in for the anti habit forming or anti addiction drugs on your psychiatrist advice please.
I may have misunderstood your question but if you want to remember the nasty taste in your mouth from smoking maybe you should take a big whiff of an ashtray.......smell is connected to taste. As long as that smell doesn-t make you want to smoke it could work. I quit chewing tobacco a week ago so I know what you-re going through......hang in there!
When I quit smoking I found that I had certain -triggers- that would make me want to pick one up. If you know what yours are (such as a cigarette with the morning paper or as reward for finishing a project) you can find ways to substitute that cigarette, such as a cup of coffee with the morning paper or a few minutes reading a favorite magazine for a job well done. Strong flavored gum such as mint or cinnamon also helps. You-re over the worst of it already, so keep up the good work!
Can you try this? As a reminder when you want to smoke have a small piece of garlic handy and when you take a bit you need to remember trying to get rid of the resin in your mouth..the very thing that kept up craving....You still need oranges and citrus to keep your mouth clean. You need to expand on the energy you use....Do not turn back and you will be right where I am sitting..Still thinking about why I do not quit.
I quit smoking about 4 1/2 weeks ago. Obviously- it is on my mind too or i would not have found this question. i quit before for 8 months and went back to it. after being clean for 8 months i felt the cigs dirty my lungs again and it was gross. im only in my 20-s and trust me my breathing is not that great and i have never been overweight. just keep lookign up horror stories and negative things associated. the nights i came so close to smoking over the past 4 weeks, i would always end up thinking -i can-t put one of those nasty thigns in my mouth again- because all the negativity i keep associating with it and it will work. good luck! :)

Congrads for quitting. Hopefully it-s your lungs getting back into shape. But, it wouldn-t hurt to see the Doc, especially if you are having trouble breathing. Good Luck.
Congratulations on kicking the habit.
Just like with any drug, your with drawing in a sense.
Your lunges are getting use to not having to be filled with smoke anymore. It will get better.
I have never smoked in my life, but have been around a few people who quit. They were extremely grumpy for about 3 mo.
You will start feeling better soon - say to yourself -why didn-t I do this sooner?-
Good luck.
My guess is that it will take a long time for the damage smoking already did to your lungs to improve so give it time. One of my friends gave up smoking and started having all kinds of sinus problems right after quitting but he worked through it w/his Dr and is OK now
IM not sure how long you smoked for but your lung s are inthe process of healing themselves. Your body has to -get back into shape). I would suggest maybe going to your Dr for a checkup! it is a legitimate concern. IN the meantime try drinking alot of water/liquids, and maybe some cardio to strenghtn heart and lungs...
good luck

How do you get rid of yellow tobacco stains off the fingers, while youre trying to quit smoking?it looks awful! -

How do you get rid of yellow tobacco stains off the fingers, while youre trying to quit smoking?it looks awful! -

Step1 Rub the nicotine stains on your fingers vigorously with half a lemon, allowing the juice to soak in for at least 10 minutes. Lemon is a natural astringent and absorbs deeply into the skin, cleansing without overdrying.

Step2 Use potatoes for nicotine stain removal. The simple act of peeling a dozen potatoes will quickly remove stains; however you can cut a potato in half and rub it into your skin, as you would with a lemon. Allow the juice to set for 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing.

Step3 Dissolve an aspirin tablet in 1 cup of hot water and soak your fingers to remove those pesky stains from your skin. This aspirin and water method also works for removing nicotine stains from clothing and walls.

Step4 Remove difficult stains by rubbing the skin with a pumice stone after applying any of the above remedies. Pumice should only be used for the initial stain removal, as excessive use will cause damage to your skin and can build calluses. Once the major spots are gone, you can use the above methods for routine nicotine stain removal.

Step5 Keep your skin moisturized to create a barrier, preventing the nicotine from soaking deep into the layers of the skin. Applying Vitamin E oil to your hands daily will not only help your skin to remain healthy and beautiful, it will make it more difficult for nicotine to stain your fingers.
Try a whitening toothpaste - rub on hands and rinse

A paste of baking soda and water can also work .

Lemon does too.

A little bleach in water won-t hurt either

Peroxide is a whitener /bleach too.

* Use soap and water afterwards and a good skin conditioner

* Do not use a brillow pad as someone suggested . No sandpaper either -- you would be surprised at what some folks will do

No one method will immediately remedy the situation. It takes time .

Good Luck in your endeavor to quit smoking !
I did it ..10yrs now ..smoke free
You can-t. It will gradually disappear if you quit and the skin gradually sheds and replaces itself. Good luck with the quit.
use the white part of the lemon rind and rub that substance into the stained skin - then use a Brillo pad or pumice stone and the stain will scrub right off...dont foreget to moisturise the skin afterwards...good luck with quittiing

What can I do to stop eating after quitting smoking? -

What can I do to stop eating after quitting smoking? -

I quit smoking a couple of weeks ago, but I-ve fount myself eatting more then what i need. Does anyone have any ideas to keep myself from eating so much? I can-t chew gum for long, it hurts my jaw. I stay at home most of the time, I have a hard time getting out, so all the advice i can get will be appreciated.
Congrats on quitting smoking! You have made it past the hard part for sure. As a former smoker myself that gained 60 lbs after quitting, let me assure you that I KNOW where you are coming from. Let me provide a few tid bits that may help.

A lot of the hard part of quitting smoking is the constant hand to mouth motion that you-ve been used to as a smoker. So, find something that replaces that that won-t be full of calories. Hard candies can work ok, but try and shoot for something sugarless. As many have suggested, keep a bottle of water around and drink it instead of eating something.

2nd, nicotine is an appetite supressant....soooo you have now hit your normal appetite for the first time in awhile. Don-t panic and go out and take up CRACK or something to compensate...it won-t help your health issues! No seriously, start looking at your diet (I did this a year or two late, but its been effective). Lots of sugar in your diet will keep your appetite high. I-m particularly fond of the South Beach diet and philosophies. The book is cheap and it will teach you some principles of eating healthier and it will decrease your appetite for the better and take care of your heart too. If you are eating more but of the right food, you may find that you can even LOSE weight despite the increased consumption, and eventually your portion sizes/cravings will drop naturally if you eliminate alot of the sugars and bad carbs in your life.

As always, a good excercise program will help with everything, clean your lungs out, get rid of those built up toxins, build some muscle, and start feeling REALLY great about yourself.

Good luck!
first of all you should know why many former smokers eat too much. when you smoke your digestive system becomes very inefficient, therefore your body requires more food to do what it needs to do and you feel hungrier so you eat more. once you quit smoking, your digestive system will return to normal with just a few days but in your brain you still want to eat the same amount of food because your brain doesn-t jive with your body yet. right now you physically need less food than you did just a few weeks ago so be patient and watch your portion size, your brain will catch up soon.
drink lots of water and tea...keep busy..whenever you think you need to eat..go do something.Clean house, scrub the tub..do some laundry..bargain with yourself..dont eat unless its breakfast lunch or supper...a fruit snack would be nice...plain popcorn is good..you get used to it...keep at it..you are doing well
Start doing yoga.
You can do it anywhere, more than once a day. When you are stressed from the lack of a cigarette, you can go -down dog.-
Almost immediately, you-ll de-stress because you will focus on breathing and loving yourself and your body.
You can also take a walk outside and enjoy the fresh air.
Good luck.
Find something to suck on like starlight mints. Or a candy of somesort. It has sugar but eventually you can stop sucking on those and be over the eating habit.
water, lolipops, shopping
i drink Yogi Tea -fasting- it-s an appetite suppressant and tastes good too. Long pretzels are also good to snack on.
Drink water, or take a walk when you feel like smoking
I quit smoking two weeks ago too. I found myself overeating as well. I quit smoking with hypnosis so I bought a hypnosis CD to control overeating, so far it has worked well.

Symptoms from quitting smoking? What did you expierience and did you kick the habbit, any tips? -

I quit smoking when I fell pregnant with my first child when I was 21 and exactly a year later I my partner and I took it up again and I am so angry at myself so I didnt have any yesterday. Im wondering if I have only been smoking this 2nd time for a few months will I experience any symptoms?
This is my first time (and last) I-ve quit smoking, its been 16 days and I-ve smoked for 7yrs and I don-t have any symptoms, not that I know of. I guess it would be harder for you this time around because the first time you were pregnant, so you probably felt like you had no choice.
I eat alot of carrots and rice cakes, also every half and hour or so I take a deep breath, like I-m inhaling a cigarette, that really helps.
Good luck, you can do it, its only smoking.

What is the best way to quit smoking? -

Don-t feel bad about not being able to quit through going cold turkey or by cutting down. Cutting down doesn-t work because it gives nicotine the power, not the other way around. The vast majority will fail to quit using these methods.

Smoking is more of a psychological addiction than a physical one. If you really want to quit you must discover the reasons why you smoke and then eliminate or change these thought processes.

Once you deal with the psychological side of smoking it makes the quitting process easy, no matter your level of addiction.

Quitting smoking does not require any patches, gums, hypnosis or anything like that. These methods are expensive, time consuming and simply do not work. All that is required is a bit of motivation, self belief and determination.

Good Luck and Good Quitting

First check with your local Health Department - many have good programs to help you. A friend went to ours for 8 weeks and
when he graduated - he got $$$ and a certificate and feels great.
Course his mouth was dry - taking medication - he learned to
eat candy and gained a few pounds, but he is breathing better
and he-s saving money he never had not buying smokes.

You can do it. Set you a goal - you can cut down each day
until you no longer care for one. The problem is being around
friends who do smoke. Take up knitting helps too!
I also did cold turkey. I had smoked for over 15 years and I have not smoked for now 15 years. Yes if you do the math I am 48. But I will tell you it depends on your stress level and your willingness to stop. With all the cool stuff that is out there check with your Dr. I know that is not really what you want to hear, but check.
I set a date (two weeks out) and sort of slowed down slightly then just quit cold turkey. It sucked for a bit, but it-s been 11 years and i-m still a non-smoker. Your doctor can help. I used to envision myself with some awful kind of throat cancer when i got the urge to light up and that helped
The patch works well but also investigate the use of self hypnosis. This has worked for a lot of people!

How to quit smoking and drinking and still keeping the social life? -

How to quit smoking and drinking and still keeping the social life? -

i-m in College and you know, everytime we go to party, or gathering, everyone smokes and drinks. Now i dont want to do it anymore. At the moment it might be ok, but after a time you-ll get addicted, and wont care anymore.

So what are the tips to still keeping the friends and social network without having to smoke and drink...
I think people are forgetting that you-re asking what to do in a specific situation - in this case, when out with your drinking/smoking friends, and/or at a party.

For people that I-ve known who have quit drinking, they say some of the easiest ways are to have non-alcoholic beer (even bring your own bottle/case, if need be), or have sodas instead. If it isn-t doing it for you, you could begin by lessening the quantity of the alcohol by mixing it with non-alcoholic drinks. Adding ice also helps, as it gives you less drink, and slowly helps to water your drink down (something you need if drinking alcohol anyway).

As for smoking, it can be tough. Since it sounds like you-re more a social smoker, try gum instead. Otherwise, as you know, there are patches that you can try (if one doesn-t work for you, there are other brands) and even ciggerettes that are designed to help you quit - which, in your case, would still give you the appearance of being a smoker, if that is something you want.

Best of luck,

-Nate
Just dont do it!! haha they arent your friends because you smoke or drink! haha
chew gum..
I think it really depends on you. If you really mean to quit smoking and drinking, then you can do it by yourself. It is one way to test yourself if you can discipline yourself.
Okay. Still go out on your social events but don-t smoke and drink non alcoholic drinks. It is hard to do at first but it becomes natural in time and after a while people will not comment on it.
Hire someone to do the smoking and drinking for you. You can probably get an Upscale College Student Indoctrination Assistance Grant (UCSIAG) to cover the expense. Or try the Irresponsible Person Of Academia Party Facilitation Fund (IPOAPFF). The forms are available by the bale in the counseling offices. Make sure you fill out ALL 27,658 pages, filling in N/A in every blank. The forms for guiding you through filling out the forms are available behind the boiler in the admin building basement. Happy Edumication!
By now, you probably know most of the bad things about smoking — some from firsthand experience. But smoking is an addiction, and just knowing it-s bad for you isn-t enough to make most people quit. If you think the only thing you have to gain by quitting is a few extra pounds, think again!

Quit smoking? -

i ve quite smoking for a few days and i was wondering if anyone knows how long the urges to smoke last and if there is any good way to deal with them!
thank you
I quit cold turkey more than a year ago, and you get the urge once in a while its normal, specially because is habit done with a regular basis.
I did smoke a couple of times while trying to quit, I am not going to lie, but just knowing that my health is in a better place now, it was all worth it. I ate more, and I did gain a few pounds, but now I-m exercising, and have more energy all together.
You will quit because you want to and you re life is worth it.
Consider getting a hobbie, or just doing something that you know is good for you.
Give yourself a big pat on the back, many people are proud of you, including me. Hugs.
Good for you!!!! I quit too but I did it using the Allen Carr -Easy Way to Quit- book and have really had very few withdrawal symptoms. It-s been very easy. I am so glad to be free of the nicotine addiction - slavery. I highly recommend the book.
This time, I do not feel I am being deprived of anything. And whenever the thought of a cigarette comes up in my head, I pay attention to it and recognize it for what it is, and then celebrate the fact that I am getting myself free.
Every other time I tried to quit, I felt sorry for myself and felt like I was making a huge sacrifice, and I think this is why the previous times failed. This time I realize that nicotine withdrawal is actually very mild and even kind of enjoyable, like an -anti-high- and I do not feel I am sacrificing or giving up anything. Rather, I think I am ending my slavery to an addiction and this is cause to rejoice. So...I guess the mental change of attitude has really helped me.
Best wishes to you! You can do it!
Here-s what I did:
Set yourself a date to quit. Start an internal dialogue that you will not be a certain age and smoking too. See yourself as you want to be, then imagine it so as often as possible leading up to your quit date.

Think positive; Tell yourself, -I am a non-smoker.-
The habit is mental and physical: Recognise the cues to smoke and change the pattern. If you smoke when talking on the phone, avoid the phone for awhile. After you eat? Go for a walk or do something that doesn-t call up the habit. You have to realise that some good things are put aside for now but will be worth the wait and greatly improved for reward of your effort now.

You may want to invest in nicotine patches or niccorette gum to assist with the calming of your cravings. This is known to help tremendously.

Whenever you experience a craving, AKA a nicotine fit,
sit down, take deep breaths, close your eyes and go with it!
Feel what is happening. Tell yourself that you really don-t want this to control you. Let it wash over you knowng that this feeling will soon pass and be no more.

You are missing the physical sensation of holding the cigarrette in your fingers as well as the saensation of breathing in deeply and blowing out.

Empty fingers feel strange and cue you to pick up THE NO-NO! So pick up a pencil and hold it like a cigarrette so the cue dissappars.
Your mouth feels strange: it requires entertainment. Your mouth misses the feel of the ciggarette and deep breathing in for smoking and blowing out again. Now your mouth is idle!! So fill the gap, use the end of the pencil as the cigarette was between your lips, then breath in deeply, hold it and blow out. This exercise fills the physical sensation that is missing when you don-t smoke and helps to remove the cue to light up. As nicotine disappears from your system, the craving for these sensations disappear also.

Continue this routine as long as you can; day by day or hour by hour. Sometimes you take it minute by minute.

If you give in and start smoking again realize that this has been valuable practice toward your final quit. Forgive yourself and begin again. Each time it will get easier until you are finally free and in charge of your life!
The best way is to take one day at a time, most people substitute that habit with something else like chewing gum or unhealthy foods. That-s why you hear most people say you gain weight when trying to stop smoking. But just know that someone proud you for stopping that habit
Trying to quite has been the name of my pain for years!! It-s just hard. There are patches and pills, inhalers and groups... Endless helper products but in the end it-s up to you. Hope you do better than I have. Good luck!

They say the cravings never go away just get weaker with time.
