Does quit smoking shot really work? -

How can this injection stop cravings for cigarettes?
I haven-t heard of this - it must be a new thing to pull in more money since they (tobacco manufacturers) are loosing the war against quiters.

A sign of our times where people are waking to the facts and affects of smoking and how a smoker can quit smoking.

Has anyone whos used Commit lozenges to quit smoking had a problem with flatulence? I cant stop farting. -

Has anyone whos used Commit lozenges to quit smoking had a problem with flatulence? I cant stop farting. -

This is no joke. I-ve been on these things for 4 days now, not smoking at all!! I-m farting about 5 times an hour, and loudly, not little SBD-s. I don-t know if I should go back to smoking or just keep farting until I-m an ex smoker.
from the commit website:

Are there any side effects to taking the Commit? stop-smoking lozenge?
Commit is not candy. If you consume the stop-smoking lozenge too fast or chew and swallow all or part of it, you may experience heartburn or indigestion. If you experience any side effects, you should discontinue use and consult your doctor.

The side effects seen in users are generally moderate and transient. The most common side effects are insomnia (reported in less than 5% of users), nausea, hiccups, coughing, heartburn, headache and flatulence.

When you think about it, its like chewing gum, or eating to fast when you-re using these lozenges daily, so air can get trapped and your body releases it through flatulence and burping. So this seems a normal but irritating side effect. I say keep it up, dont go back to smoking...GOOD LUCK!

Im trying to quit smoking. i also have a cutting problem. when i try to quit smoking i get more of an urge to? -

cut. and when i try to quit cutting, i smoke a lot more. i need to quit my bad habits. i get very sick all the time from smoking the way i do and i hate having to constantly wear something that goes over my arms so no one around me thinks im crazy. its just the way i cope with these things.

can someone give me suggestions to possibly quit BOTH of these things without getting a -professional- involved??
There is no sure-fire answer that will work for all people, but I-d be happy to tell you what worked for me. It-s a plan that will take awhile to get through, but it-s probably the most pain-free way of doing things.

1 - Set a date that you would like to START the process of quitting smoking. Make that date at least 2 weeks from the day you decide the date. While doing this, if you are not on a schedule with your smoking, get on one. Get your body used to having a certain amount of cigs at the same time, everyday.

2 - When your body is adjusted to this schedule, rearrange your smoking schedule in a way where you drop 1 cigarette from your schedule. Stick to this schedule until your body is used to this schedule.

3 - Repeat step 2 as needed. This may take awhile, but that-s okay. Each cigarette you drop is one step closer to being smoke-free.

4 - When you are down to 1 cigarette per day, drop that cig. By now, your body has been conditioned to live with a very small amount of nicotine, so dropping that last cigarette won-t be as hard as it sounds.

5 - You will probably crave a cigarette after a particularly trying day. Whatever you do, don-t give in. You have to have will power for ANY plan to work, so make sure you bring your will power to the party.

The above plan may take awhile to work, but it-ll condition your body to live with less and less nicotine, so withdrawl and stress will be minimized.

As for cutting, the best thing is to keep yourself busy. Better yet, busy in a public place. Occupy yourself with something you enjoy doing. Don-t give yourself the chance to cut. Will power will come in handy here, as well. Feel the urge? Beat it. Win out over it!

Hope this gives you a good start. Don-t rush the quitting. Just take baby steps. Small steps will get you to victory faster than rushing it.

Best of luck.
well uuhh i used to cut myself..
but i dont anymore.. and i guess i just stopped and created different better habits like writing poems... songs... talking to a friendd or somethingg and just take your ciggeretes awayy and don-t think of them try doing something active like running track soccer baseball stuff like that that will keep you busy..
hope this helps
Make yourself pay 20 dollars to charity every time you pick up a cigarette. That way, you will realize that you are becoming poorer and stop, and its good for charity!
get some mental help hunny
Well, starting with quitting smoking, the best things you can do for that are getting some sort of nicotine patches or gum to decrease your cravings and help with withdrawal symptoms. Since getting your body off any kind of drug is both stressful and depressing (especially if you-re addicted to it), that should help out with the need to cut a little bit.

Also, try to keep your hands busy so that you-re not tempted to reach for a cigarette or sharp object. Part of why it-s so hard to quit smoking is because when you smoke, you-re constantly doing things with your hand. Try knitting or something small and intricate that will keep your hands moving and give you something else to concentrate on.

The last thing I would do is find something to chew on. Gum can be good, but it gets expensive. For a good crunch (and itty bitty health boost) go for in-shell salted sunflower seeds. Many people I know who have successfully quit swear by them.

You said yourself that cutting is the way you cope. So what do you need to do? Keep yourself from getting stressed out. Wean yourself off the nicotine instead of trying to go cold-turkey -- it-s just going to trigger a cutting session if you do it all at once, as you have seen yourself.

My friend quit smoking 5 months ago but he still has trouble breathing, is this normal and what should he do? -

My friend quit smoking 5 months ago but he still has trouble breathing, is this normal and what should he do? -

No, you should actually get your normal breathing capacity back in less than a year (or close to it). Tell your friend to seek medical attention.
He may have the same problem I have. I quit a 25 year 2 pack a day habit. Now I have scar tissue in my lungs. My treatments are Advair, Albuterol, and Albuterol nebulizer treatments daily. I breathe alot better now. I-m just about off of my nebulizer and have cut down on my Albuterol emergency inhaler. Tell you friend to see a Pulmonary doctor as soon as he can. He-ll be breathing better sooner.
see a physician, immediately. don-t take any risks.
It isn-t normal. Your friend should see a physician right away. There is undoubtedly some condition that is causing this difficulty. It may be as simple as getting some exercise and it may be very serious (like cancer). But your friend needs to find out so treatment can begin as soon as possible.
Breathing should have improved sooner than 5 months. Sometimes you can still be coughing up mucous for 5-6 months as your body gets rid of all the -junk- that-s been stored in the lungs from prolonged smoking.

If he has trouble breathing, then something is seriously wrong- but quitting has helped the problem from getting worse.

I just quit smoking 3 days ago, when can I expect to start getting fat? -

You won-t get fat if you watch your food intake for a few weeks while your body is weining off the nicotine.
I suggest you do this:

weigh yourself once a week to keep track and not let it creep in
chew gum
dangle a pencil from your mouth (your mouth will want to have something
hanging from it)
Do something with your hand to keep them busy (I sat on mine) so you dont
climb the walls and fiddle with food.
Keep lots of veggie snacks around
Drink lots of water to flush your system

It all works, try it.
What kind of question is this?!
Wow! Good for you! Don-t -expect to get fat-. Add some more positive changes to your life. It-s easy. Take a walk every day. Eat more fruit and vegetables and whole grains. And drink lots of water. I quit smoking 29 years ago and it was one of the best things I ever did. Stay strong and stick with it. You-ll be sooo glad you did!
Not all people gain weight when they stop smoking.
congratulations===not all people will put on weight from stopping the smokes

How to support my husband quitting smoking? -

My husband is driving me crazy. He says he is going to quit smoking and will do it for a day or two. Isolate himself from the world and then as soon as he is back at work starts back up again. I-ve lost the will to support him because it-s been going on like this almost every other week and i-m at my wits ends. He was doing awesome, got on the patch and quit for five weeks before deciding it wasn-t what he wanted. Where does it end? How can I help him resolve to quit and stick with it instead of constantly reverting back at the first little stress factor. Should I be expected to just deal with the emotional mood swings and isolation week in and week out if he isn-t going to be serious? How can I be expected to just deal with it. Once, twice, even three times no big deal but we are talking 20+ times in the last six months. I-m at my wits ends. I don-t want to be insensitive if this is really normal but what can I do to get him through it once and for all?
Being an ex-smoker, I understand how difficult it is to quit. You may want to sit down with your hubby and tell him how all this is making you feel then load him with some facts.

Once he has not smoked ONE cigarette in 48 hours he is no longer physically in need of the nicotine. Everything else is just in his mind because smoking is such a habit. I have heard you can take a bath in epsom salts and that will help draw the nicotine out of your body.

He does not have to quit smoking alone or go -cold turkey- He can take medication, go on the patch, chew gum and join a support group.

You can show him how much money he can save in a year from not smoking. Challange him to find something he really would like to do or have and put the money he uses for cigarettes towards that! It will give him something to strive for.
Get him to start exercising...a good thing is for him to go for a walk everytime he wants cigarette....it will reduce his stress.

lastly, he is still going to have good days and bad! Try to be as supportive as you can, but you need to tell him when his stress from not smoking is getting to you. It-s not fair for him to take it out on you! He just needs your support you are not a mental punching bag for his stress.

Good luck to you and him!
well it can be that your husband really likes smoking. -_-

Just remind him the benifits of quitting. You know I once read that for every cig a person smokes, it takes 7 min-s off their life. It is a hard addiction to quit. But when he went 5 weeks thats awesome, too bad he started again.

Please ignore the person who said to withold sex for an incentive, if your husband is argumentative at the mention of the subject of quitting smoking, imagine what this would unfold into.
Smoking is stinky, costly and damaging to your health. Good luck, I am afraid you will need it.

Honestly? Leave him the hell alone. I quit once for a good amount of time and there-s nothing more I want to talk about when I-m quitting smoking than quitting smoking. trust me, if he wants to talk to you about it he will. For now let him handle it.

i know what he is going through, i am a smoker and i quit for 8 months and once things got rough i started again. Best thing to do is dont bring up current bill situations, problems with friends and if you ask how his day was and you see him getting even a little frustrated change the subject.

Approximately 10 years ago, I quit smoking overnight at the behest of a Christian Girl where I worked. She said she was praying for me and I told her that I would go home and take Yam Extract (it-s an old hokey homeopathic remedy according to a Naturopath that I know.). Well I have not smoked since.

hiya
ive had the same problem with my hubby for years but hes finally done it hes been off them for 2 months now i think it helped when his uncle came off them to
maybe if he goes to the doctors for some help and get in to the support groups he might feel better in giving up he needs something strong to help him maybe the spray that goes in the noise ask the doctor for info
:0)
I suggest having him go on a physician monitored program. a doctor can also find methods that will be sucessful for him. every person is different and solutions are different.

there are also quit smoking clinics that can do the same thing.

also I have heard there is a smoking vaccine. but it could still be in clinical trials
i applaud you for hanging in there. I too want to quit and wish i had a loving women to be there for me. there are so many support groups and doctors to help. GOOD LUCK !!
honestly, he-s trying. you might try some positive reinforcement. Cigarettes are more addicting then heroine or cocaine, by far.
How about u try telling him that if he doesnt stop, you-ll stop having sex with him. Scare him a bit, ask him what is more important a stupid habit that will eventually kill him or u. Show him pictures of people with various cancers. U can also support him by controlling his budget...and if he asks for cigarettes just tell him NO.

I want quit my smoking habit, plz give the possible ways to quit my smoking habit,If once i quit my smoking is there is any changes i will get ?plz give a serious answer?
I quit smoking about 5 months ago. I started with the gum, but after about 3 days I had enough of it. Then I quit cold turkey. For about the first 3 weeks, I wanted to punch every living being in the face. I was very irritable. Then I started to calm down. After about 5 weeks, I started to forget about cigarettes (believe me, you-ll think of them constantly when you quit). It got easier and easier. However, don-t relapse if you get stressed. About a week ago, I started smoking again because I was so stressed. I am going to quit starting tomorrow, but it-s going to suck again. Just stick with it!!!!!!!
Studies have shown that these five steps will help you quit and quit for good. You have the best chances of quitting if you use them together.
1. Get ready.
2. Get support.
3. Learn new skills and behaviors.
4. Get medication and use it correctly.
5. Be prepared for relapse or difficult situations.

I just quit smoking 3 weeks ago today. I had tried the gum and the patch and it just didn-t work for me. So I tried goig cold turkey this time and it worked. Now I will tell that the first couple of days are going to be hell. The cravings start to slow after the first couple of days though. I still want a cigarette, not for the nicotine but just the habit of it. I chew on gum and it seems to help. I feel alot better already I can take a deep breath and not cough and my sense of smell has gotten alot better also. The best advice I can give you is to just pick a day to quit smoke your last cigarette throw out all your lighters, ashtrays and cigarettes and just be strong and make it through those first couple days. You also really need to want to quit if you are going to. Good Luck
u should have though about it when u were enjoying it....its not that simple to just leave it..........but still i think if u really decide not to smoke u can stop it................gud luck
Get a new Habitat instead of smoking like drawing, painting
studying,be a vegan etc. do the healthy Habitat.
To quit smoking, you MUST have one thing, MENTAL TOUGHNESS, if you keep on finding yourself making excuses after like the third day to smoke.... don-t even bother, cause you won-t do it, you must be strong in your mind and control yourself, without that you have no chance, but if you do have that, just go cold turkey, but get your friends involved, they are your greatest help! If your friends really care about u, they will ALL they can! and with MENTAL TOUGHNESS you will have a good chance of losing that bad habit....
Try the patches and in seven years your lungs will be pink and healthy again. Within a month your sense of smell and taste will return. You can use whitening toothpaste to get your teeth white again. you and your clothes and your house won-t stink like an ashtray. Your heart and everyone around you that doesn-t smoke will thank you. Best of luck. You can do it.
try joining a support group. that always helps. and i would try nicoderm cq patch. its a good way to start. get rid of your cigs and stay away from stores that sell cigs.
There are several ways for you to quit but I will tell you that it-s hard to do. Most smokers end up smoking again. If I were you I would go to the doctors and get a prescription. I-ve heard they work better then the over the counter stuff. YOu can try the patch if you can-t afford to go to the doctors and they also have the gum but that stuff taste like crap. But if you find one that works stick with it.
My boyfriend and I quit last New Years. It wasn-t our resolution or anything. Long story short, he got a cold---couldn-t smoke for 3 days, figured -hell, I made it 3 days...might as well try and quit.- I, not wanting to tempt him, quit as well. No patches, no special gum, we just stopped buying the things!

Of course it was hard the 1st 2 weeks, but after that, we were used to it. I even had to bum a couple at work duringg those first weeks, but I would make a cig last me like 3 days. I made a promise that i just WOULD NOT BUY THEM ANYMORE.

Good Luck!! It is soooooooo worth it. You-ll see. You won-t miss those nasty things after a bit.
if you want to quit smoking, the only real way is to quit cold turkey.. if you dont have any you wont smoke .. the worst habbit is eating anything in sight... i quit smoking two weeks ago maybe even three now and i feel great .. i went on a diet at the same time so i can force myself to eat healthy
Dude, its all in your head. It-s a stupid *** habit to have, just drop it, i did.
I know a ton of people (myself included) that have quit by using the Nicoderm CQ patches along with Wellbutrin. It-s actually a depression medecine but it has been clinically proven to help quit smoking! You can get the lower dosage only the higher ones are for depression. If you don-t want to have to ask you doctor for a subscription you can even purchase it online now without one. Yes.. food tastes much better and things smell better!
I know three people who got the new prescription for Chantrix and are thrilled with the results. They all quit about 2 months ago and still doing great! Too soon to tell the long term results of course. Give it a try.
if you quit smoking suddenly of course you will experience a withdrawal effect. but quitting smoking is really your will to do or not. this has something to do with desensitization process and behavior therapy in psychology and psychologists in your area can help you. they have a lot of programs for rehabilitation for smoking. if you can-t afford, then meditate and condition yourself not to do it. otherwise, you will need a second and third party.

Ex smokers need your advice from experience I quit smoking and for some reason I remembered my ex who broke up -

I quit smoking cold turkey about 6 days ago. My problem is that these couple days i start to get really depressed especially at night and I remember my ex who broke up with me almost a year ago ... and I start crying like as if it happened yesterday! I mean I literally cry for 2 hours+ , non stop. I know quitting smoking makes you feel kind of depressed, but It-s my 6th day I-m still not feeling ok is this normal ??

And is it normal that I-m remembering my ex specifically?? Why him ? Does it mean that I still love him or is it just the chemicals withdrawal-s effect ?!
when I quit almost 3 years ago I got depressed and had bad dreams, dreams that seemed real that I was still smoking, - I-d wake up and think aw *$-^@ I started smoking again and I-d look for the smokes and I-d find none, thats how real these dreams were, these dreams lasted for years
I remember when I gave up smoking for the last time about 20 years ago similar things happened to me. I would like awake thinking about my ex gf. Stick with the program the 1st 2 weeks are the worst. When you start waking up after you dream you are smoking, and are so relieved to find you haven-t actually fallen off the wagon, you are through the worst. Best of luck.
when i quit i didnt experience that at all,
everyones diffrent thow :)
you should go get checked out and ask your doctor,
it will be best for your health :)
because you are not smoking you have a lot of time on your hands and you could be a little depressed if i were you i would go see a doctor. its not normal to cry for 2 plus hours over someone you have not been with for almost a year.

How hard is it to quit smoking? -

It-s hard to do because not only are you addicted to the nicotine but to the hand-to-mouth motion and flicking the cigarette. I used to smoke and still love it. What you need to remember is that it takes only 3 days to get all the nicotine out of your body, then you need to deal with the desire for a cigarette. If you quit, remember you can NEVER have even one more or you will be back again buying a pack. It-s hard to do but I did it....and you can, too. You need to want to do it not just for the reason that your friends are giving you grief about it. When you first quit, take lots of walks, drink lots of juice, and stay away from times you really like to smoke....stay out of bars, stay away from smoker friends, stay off the phone, stop drinking coffee or soda if that is when you light up. It is much easier that way. Good luck.
YOU HAVE NO IDEA!!!

I am 48 yrs.old. I have made many mistakes in my life.
I can honestly say that starting smoking was by far
THE BIGGEST mistake I ever made.
it is the most difficult thing i have ever done, it was harder to quit smoking then it was to quit getting high (used to be addicted to methamphetamines in highschool) its also totally worth the effort.
it-s hard. pills patches gum lozengers, they don-t help. have you heard of nicotrol puffers, they-re great. they look like a plastic cigarette they take a cartridge. you can use 16 or 18 a day. each cartridge equals 80 puffs. i believe there are 120 to a box. insurance will not pay for them. i believe it was a 116.00 dollars at wal-mart.
good luck
if it were easier more people would quit. Nicotine is and addiction...................It is difficult.
I started smoking around the age of 13, and I quit at the age of 37. I am now 42 and still smoke free. It was hard, after the 1st 24 hours your body withdrawal is finished, that is out of the way. Next is the mindset which is the hard part to beat, the habit of lighting up after dinner, with your friends etc....you have to change your pattern of behaviour. Now saying all this sounds easy, it is not easy but it is not impossible. I quit cold turkey and I broke out of that lifestyle, I am no longer chained to that cancer stick, but 5 years later I sometimes will be driving, on my way home and will see a store and think to myself, -I should stop and grab some smokes- and its like, where the heck did that come from. So the thought pattern is still there, I just have control over it now.Quitting was the best thing I have ever done for myself!
VERY hard. Look how many people try to stop and can-t.

Cigarettes are highly addictive.
It-s hard. I second everything everyone has posted so far to answer your question, and in addition, I will say it-s not just an addiction, it-s not just a habit, it-s also a lifestyle. So once you start to smoke, you socialize with others who do. When you try to quit, you still have to deal with the fact that your friends will still be smoking, wanting to smoke in the car, wanting to smoke in the house, wanting to sit in the smoking section of the restaurant, needing to go outside for a smoke, etc. It starts to become a big issue. It-s a lifestyle. People who stop smoking have to change their lifestyle to stay tobacco free.

Also, if someone quits smoking without learning a new technique to handle stress as it comes up, they will excuse reaching for a smoke when something -out of the ordinary- happens that causes them stress. This is one of the most frequent reasons people start smoking again. The thing is that life is always going to be stressful. Until someone finds a new stress reliever, they are very, very vulnerable to starting it up again.
Hello There,

My wife smoked for over 10 years and when she found out that she was pregnant with our now newborn 3 months old daughter, she had promised me that if I found a good solution for quitting, she will try her best to kick the habit.

Well in my spare time I started researching online for quit smoking programs, meanwhile she was trying out patches and gums that you can buy at grocery stores and adventually they would not work for her.

After about a week of researching I had stumbled over a website that really impressed me on what they had to offer and that they actually say that they can almost guarantee your success, and most importantly that you can try it out for free.

The company has been around for over 20 years now and they have helped over a million smokers quit since and their kit has everything that you possibly need to help you quit smoking, I thought WoW that is impressive.

I went ahead and ordered the free trial for my wife (only paid for shipping) and she has quit smoking in just two weeks and she doesn-t want to hear about or smell another cigarette again in her life :)

Now it is up to you, but since my wife has quit, I was so happy about her success, so much so that I had built a small review site of the product to also help other people quit, you can check it out at;
http://endthehabitnow.com
if you want to find out more.

P.S. Also available for Canada.

Thanks for reading my short story, I hope it helps, good luck and stay healthy.
i dont no but my dad smokes, and he cant quit, its too hard for him

a long time ago I saw an article that has the time frame for how long it takes your body to get back to normal after quitting. If any one has this or knows a link to it, please help.
It-s here:
http://www.cancer.org/docroot/PED/conten…

but you-ll have to scroll down a bit until you reach the section titled:

-When smokers quit -- What are the benefits over time?-

And Congratulations! It-s been just a bit over 2 years for me, and I can tell you I feel tons better than before.
Pft, probably forever. I quit back in September, I still get a craving here and there. I-ve gained a lot of weight (so did my mom and aunt when they quit - it sucks).

I think just mentally getting into a pattern without cigs is hard too. Going to work or school, waiting for the bus, getting coffee, going out, everything you used to do now has to change. It-s like altering a habit and it sucks, but over time you-ll learn to find other things to do in those situations.

Or you could do something else, like chew gum or eat a sucker (I bought a bag of Dum Dums when I quit so everytime I craved, I just had one of those)
Sorry - I don-t have a link but, I have heard that it takes about one week to get over the nicotine addiction. As for your lungs healing - I-ve heard they improve greatly within the first year but, it may take several years for them to heal completely. I would like to say, Congratulations!!
yeah, its about 4 days to get the nicotine out of your system, then your body will kick in and want it more. Cravings get worse but they-ll get better after that. There is light at the end of the tunnel!
Good Luck
you know how you have all that tar in your lungs
well if you start excersizing then that will help break up the tar even faster.
I found this sight that I think might help.
Not sure about a link. But i will tell you that it takes about a weak. Trust me. I know.

How long after quitting smoking does your metabolism become normal? -

How long after quitting smoking does your metabolism become normal? -

I quit smoking in January, and I swear my metabolism slowed down a lot. I gained weight and it seems much harder to lose this weight than other times I-ve gained and lost. Is it something to do with my quitting smoking? I-m trying so hard and I feel like nothing is happening sometimes. Sometimes I feel good, but other times it-s like I-m stuck.
your metabolism is perfectly normal. congratulations on quitting smoking....it is absolutely one of the hardest addictions to overcome. you can get the weight off. i quit 5 years ago and it-s a matter of changing your habits. the benefits you gain from giving up the cigarettes far outweigh a little weight gain, which i promise you can lose. i joined a jazzercise class which i loved. i hated the regular gym and love to dance. the pounds fell off within weeks and i still ate what i wanted to. and yes, sometimes you will feel stuck, but that will pass and you will feel so proud of yourself and look back on this wonderful acheivement that will add years to your life!!
ps.....the reason you think you metabolism is slowing down is your heart rate slows down a bit because the nicotine is no longer putting a strain on your heart.....perhaps that may put a bit of perspective on it for you?
Yes the bad thing is smoking speeds up metabolism, i think, or woman just eat less, so woman keep smoking so they wont gain, and then they get cancer and die, the cold hard facts.
you are doing the right thing tackel the other problems when you feel comfortable with being a non smoker.and get support. try wearing a cap it works for me.
the problem is when you smoke you eat less and when you quit you eat more. you become more active. it is an oral fixation. your having to have something in your mouth. it happened when i went to bootcamp for 3 months i gained 20 lbs.
you-re probably gaining weight because your using eating to compensate your oral fixation (that you had when smoking)...you may not even realize this (?)

just a thought.

it has nothing to do with ur metabolism. When you smoked u ate less. It-s kinda like drug addicts, they can go for days without food as long as they get their hit. Smoking isn-t to that extreme of course, but to some extent that cigarette fills your apetite. Just drink slim fast instead of eating or something. Slim fast is soo good
Your idea of a -normal- metabolism is probably the one you had when you smoked. That probably won-t come back. You are at a normal metabolism right now.
Hey I quit smoking 30 years ago. If I had continued smoking I would be dead now - no joy!
Eating sometimes is a replacement for the addictiveness of smoking. so you have to pay more attention to your food intake. If you can increase your activity level that will help.
Stay at it. I was a Repiratory Therapist. A smoker-s death is a horrible thing. The last years are slow suffocation.
How long after quitting smoking does your metabolism become normal? -
