How long after quitting smoking does your metabolism become normal? -
I quit smoking in January, and I swear my metabolism slowed down a lot. I gained weight and it seems much harder to lose this weight than other times I-ve gained and lost. Is it something to do with my quitting smoking? I-m trying so hard and I feel like nothing is happening sometimes. Sometimes I feel good, but other times it-s like I-m stuck.
your metabolism is perfectly normal. congratulations on quitting smoking....it is absolutely one of the hardest addictions to overcome. you can get the weight off. i quit 5 years ago and it-s a matter of changing your habits. the benefits you gain from giving up the cigarettes far outweigh a little weight gain, which i promise you can lose. i joined a jazzercise class which i loved. i hated the regular gym and love to dance. the pounds fell off within weeks and i still ate what i wanted to. and yes, sometimes you will feel stuck, but that will pass and you will feel so proud of yourself and look back on this wonderful acheivement that will add years to your life!!
ps.....the reason you think you metabolism is slowing down is your heart rate slows down a bit because the nicotine is no longer putting a strain on your heart.....perhaps that may put a bit of perspective on it for you?
Yes the bad thing is smoking speeds up metabolism, i think, or woman just eat less, so woman keep smoking so they wont gain, and then they get cancer and die, the cold hard facts.
you are doing the right thing tackel the other problems when you feel comfortable with being a non smoker.and get support. try wearing a cap it works for me.
the problem is when you smoke you eat less and when you quit you eat more. you become more active. it is an oral fixation. your having to have something in your mouth. it happened when i went to bootcamp for 3 months i gained 20 lbs.
you-re probably gaining weight because your using eating to compensate your oral fixation (that you had when smoking)...you may not even realize this (?)
just a thought.

it has nothing to do with ur metabolism. When you smoked u ate less. It-s kinda like drug addicts, they can go for days without food as long as they get their hit. Smoking isn-t to that extreme of course, but to some extent that cigarette fills your apetite. Just drink slim fast instead of eating or something. Slim fast is soo good
Your idea of a -normal- metabolism is probably the one you had when you smoked. That probably won-t come back. You are at a normal metabolism right now.
Hey I quit smoking 30 years ago. If I had continued smoking I would be dead now - no joy!
Eating sometimes is a replacement for the addictiveness of smoking. so you have to pay more attention to your food intake. If you can increase your activity level that will help.
Stay at it. I was a Repiratory Therapist. A smoker-s death is a horrible thing. The last years are slow suffocation.
