He smokes dope every day and ive asked him to give it up or we are finished. He said he wont give it up as im trying to control him, im not I just want a normal life
If he was smoking it when u met him then theres not really much u can do ... if u dislike it that much then leave him .. empty threats never work :(
Does he smoke all day long, or is it just social smoking. Did he smoke it when you got married, If he did you excepted him into you life knowing full well how it is and was. Does he drink. Does he smoke crack. Does he do hard drugs. If smoking a little pot socially is the worse thing he does. Then let it be. If he is smoking tooooooooooo much then just ask nicely if maby he would cut it back a tad. Just remember the more ultamatoms you give him, the more he is going to rebel. If you are so ready to leave him maby his smoking pot is just an excuse for you to get out of the marriage. Besides what is a normal life in this day and age.
sounds like hes responded with the stereotypical cannabis smokers response. ask him to stop for two weeks and see if he feels better. cannabis smokers do not have much motivation to change as they seem to have themselves on a pedistal above everyone else. but yeh he-ll only change if he wants to and should realise hes better of after a few weaks of being sober. trying to get him to try cutting it down to just weekends might be a good idea. if he wont try then i guess you should leave and let him relise wat hes missing out on. going on a holiday where he wont be around people smoking it may be a good idea.

Don-t know where you live, but you-ll want to make sure you completely understand the marijuana laws in your area. In the U.S. we have a -property forfeiture- law that can result in a person losing their house if there is a drug related arrest made on the property. If you have children this is of GREAT importance.

Property forfeiture also means he can lose the car, boat, or any other jointly owned property he may be using if he gets arrested.

Learn about the law, educate him about the law. Maybe you two can come to some agreement about his pot smoking if he understands it puts you and your children at such grave risk legally.

He has made his choice. If you really cant live with his choice them make your own choice. He is only saying you are trying to control him because he doesnt want to give it up. Would he say you were trying to control him if you asked him to cut down on food if he was morbidly obese? I dont think so. It-s affected his brain and made him selfish. Start thinking about yourself, because he isnt.
If you threaten to do that and not carry it out then you-ve lost,and its not about control at all, theres nothing wrong with wanting a normal life, but you need to be strong and give him an ultimatum and stick to it!! He might stop if he loses you, if not then thats his loss!!
For someone who has became addicted to dope never really knows when to quit until something has gone.
Give him his last and final warning, be firm and say if he doesn-t quit then you and him are finished.
If he still remains try telling him about tough love.
He has to see for himself that the weed is a negative in his life ... If he loses you over this , he may come to his senses . If he doesn-t , you-ve lost nothing ... good luck .
Mine is the same way....I tried Hiding it on him but he gets real angry so don-t try that. The only way he is going to stop is if he wants to. Your only choice might be to leave.....

Cold Turkey. I saw my husband do it after smoking for over 25 years with no problem, burt I wasn-t ready. Nine months later I decided I really wanted to quit, so I did cold turkey after 20 years of smoking. It was hard emotionally, not physically, for maybe 2 weeks tops.

Smoking is more of a psychological addiction than a physical one. If you really want to quit you must discover the reasons why you smoke and then eliminate or change these thought processes. honestly i just quit one day to another, but there-s a lot of was know like patches which they say are very helpfull, or try smoking everyday less and less, until you don-t have the urge for it, think of why you want to quit so when u do u feel guilty of doing it. I smoked for 25 years. Tried everything to quit and I did quit. A thousand times. It-s different for everyone. I finally realized that I could never quit smoking. All I could do was stop smoking. Didn-t quit just stopped smoking. I decided I wanted to live and have been smoke free for 2 years. But they are always there asking me to come back and enjoy. When I did stop (not quit) the monster was huge and overwhelming always close at my heels. War was declared. Battle after battle was fought but the monster would never quit. There would never be a truce. One day at a time one battle at a time. Then I had the revelation that I have heard comes only with time. I never really enjoyed smoking.
I was a two pack a day person. One morning on my way to work, I opened the car window and threw out my only pack of cigs. I could not smoke at work so that evening, I fought with myself to not stop and get a another pack. The next morning I realized I had gone 24 hours without a cig (longest time in 14 years) I them made it a game with myself to continue to go just one more day. After about a week your craving will be much less. It has now been 17 years without a cig and I no long cough and get throat problems in the winter.

when i quit, i bought gum, sunflower seeds, and drank more liquids that-ll get u through about a week, after that it-s will power, because once u just take that first drag it starts all over again.
Wellbutrin is supposed to work really well. Im not a smoker but my friend is. I throw her cigs in the trash all the time when she isnt looking. Or I punch her in the arm when she puts one to her mouth. It works when Im around. Good luck buddy....

Honestly, it-s cold turkey. I feel like everyone I know who did it successfully did it that way. You just have to know what to expect so that you can beat the cravings... like after the first two days you-ll REALLY want to smoke, but just know that-s how you-ll feel and beat it. Go running or something that conflicts with smoking. Definitely don-t drink for a while, because you may want to smoke while you drink.
After 30 years of smoking and several tries, I quit 2 years and 9 months ago using the gum. I used more than was recommended and chewed it whenever I felt a craving. It seemed expensive but one piece can last an hour. A cigarette lasted about 8 - 10 minutes. After about 4-6 months, I did not even have a craving.

Its not just the nicotine. Its also the other 50+ chemicals they out in cigarettes. Also the main problem is habit.
We have been used to having body sensations which we translate as -my body needs something, which we have attempted to satisfy by having a cigarette.
When we try to stop smoking, we still get these -my body needs something- sensations, and we still feel that we want a cigarette. We have to train our body to be more selective. When we feel we need something, we have to work out what it is that we actually need.
A glass of water is an excellent substitute if nothing else comes to mind, as it helps with the clearance of the toxic substances in our body. Another good substitute is a bag of salted peanuts, used in combination with the water.
Another thing to do is to find an activity which occupies the mind or body. Go swimming - nobody wants to smoke while they are swimming. Slowly, as our body adjusts and translates the -want something- feelings into something other than cigarettes, then the feelings begin to go away. We know its not a cigarette that the body really needs, because as soon as we-ve had one we still have the feeling, and want another!

Never, ever go near an open flame with a cigarette in your hand or mouth. Never carry matches or a cigarette lighter, and never ask someone for a light. Do not even think about carrying a flint stone and rock to make a spark. In other words, just quit.
stop buying cigarettes and chew a gum instead if you get the urge to smoke
try keepin your smokes in a pain in the *** spot to get to. Like your car at work, so you have to walk all that way to get em. It worked for me everytime, till i picked it back up.

I also took niacin (500mg-s), and didnt have any craving at all for it. oh and buy cheap cheap cheap smokes so when you light em up you wanna puke. That helps too

did your head feel weird the first couple of days and did you feel a little dizzy the first day or 2
I felt really sad for the first while, like I had lost a best friend. Pathetic, eh? I don-t remember feeling dizzy, but I-m sure that-s very normal and will go away.
It-s probably a withdrawl symptom. I didn-t feel dizzy but I did get headaches. Give it another couple of weeks and if it continues, it may not have to do with your quit.
I did quit smoking cold turkey and yes I felt weird...you feel this way because your body is going through withdrawal...it will pass...STAY STRONG!!!...you will be glad ya did!...good luck!

They wont. Quitting smoking wont suddenly undo the damage that has been done, your teeth are stained. Stoping smoking will just stop them from getting darker.

Apart from the things you are allready doing theres nothing you can do becides going to a professional for teeth whitening treatments. What whitening toothpaste are you using? Things like colgate whitening do not work, you would need to use something like pearl drops hollywood smile. Priceyish but it works.

I have been smoking for about 8 years. I have tried to quit a couple of times, but when I start to gain weight I freak out and start again. Any advise?
I quit a little over a week ago. I have cut out the soda, been watching what I eat, and exercising. I have actually lost a couple pounds as a result. I also have a bathroom scale that reports body fat which is also helpful.
For me the ONLY thing was exercise. Not too much 20-30 min. a day of brisk walking did the trick.

The main reason people gain weight after smoking is because they substitute their addiction with food. Instead of smoking, they munch on stuff. Instead, maybe you could substitute with something healthier like working out. (Working out can actually be addictive, too!) Or instead of munching, drink water.

How to bring up the topic of quitting smoking to my boyfriend? -


I really want him to quit smoking, but I know that he wants to quit as well. I don-t want to feel like I-m nagging him when I bring it up, but I did get some literature about Chantrix and I would really like him to try it out. How do I bring it up in a non threatening way? He knows what he is doing is bad for him, and for my asthma, but just like any addiction he can-t just kick it so easily.
If you-re bringing it up even though you know he wants to quit, he will perceive it as nagging. Simply give him the literature, and don-t sit and talk about it for a half hour. He knows what he has to do, and he can only do it when HE is ready.
How wonderful of you to be so concerned for both his health and yours. Sit him down and tell him that you-re concerned for the health of both of you, and that you know he would be happier and healthier if he quit. Get him some literature on the benefits of quitting smoking before you throw the Chantrix info at him. Let him know that there are many options out there to help him quit, and that you will support him every step of the way. Don-t push it or argue....just let him know you-re there to support him when he-s ready to try.
Good luck - this is a toughie. Quitting smoking is one of the most difficult things in the world to do, even if he really wants to. Many times people have to -quit- several times before they succeed, and even then it-s like alcoholism - the urge never truly goes away.

It is double difficult for you having asthma - I have it as well and I know how smoke of any kind affects you. Good luck. I know that ultimatums won-t help, but you will have to get him to work with you - if he can-t quit, see if he-ll at least go outside to his own private -smoking section- away from you.

If you two love each other, you will both have to come to a compromise. Maybe he will eventually quit, but you have to go on the assumption that he won-t. Believe me, even if he loves you, quitting smoking for someone else isn-t possible. I have asthma as well and it never once made my wife skip a beat, but she did go outside at least.

Your asthma will keep getting worse if he doesn-t quit and you should make that very clear to him. Perhaps nicotine is more important to him that your health and perhaps you should only associate with non-smoking males.

Perhaps he should join a Quit Smoking Clinic if he is lacking in will power.

Apparently he stopped during his campaign, but he still smokes now. He-s chewing gum and ****, so he-s trying hard to quit. So what though? smoking isn-t going to impair his ability to run this country! First off, don-t buy any. Get rid of any butts or other paraphernalia. Second, don-t smoke! The way to quit smoking is to never light another one. Third, there are some great support sites on the internet...www.stopsmokingcenter.net is excellent. Good luck!

I smoked from 1-1/2 to 2 packs of menthols a day for over 30 yrs, first Kools then generics when the price got too much, and tried to quit several times, including at different times cold turkey, and Nicorette and the prescription drug Zyban.
* Zyban (Buprofion) made me feel *goofy* not in a good way, so I didn-t stay with it.

What finally worked for me was the prescription drug Chantix from Pfizer. They advise that you start taking it one week before you want to quit. I started taking Chantix on March 15th of this year and stopped smoking on March 22nd, my birthday. You continue taking the drug for 12 weeks. I-m now tobacco-free for 5months and one week, and it-s the first time that I-ve truly felt successful in quitting.

So Chantix was the only method that ever worked for me and I finally consider myself an -EX- Smoker!-
There are many ways to quit smoking. Anything from hypnosis, to self help guides, to patches and pills. Each has it-s pros and cons.
