Quit Smoking, how long will breath smell? -

I quit smoking and was wondering how long it would take for my breath to clear up of the smoke smell/taste? I-ve been brushing, using mouthwash, and cleaning tongue a lot. Would it still be noticeable in a couple of days?

Serious answers only please. Thanks.
yeah cleaning your mouth wont do anything, the thing that is making your breath still smell like it is the stale smoke in your lungs.
it should still smell like smoke for a week after you last smoked, i had the same problem and i went to an oxygen bar (you can google it) and my breath didnt smell at all after.
Or get an inhaler (non-perscripsion) and use it when your worried about your breath

good luck! :)
Would have thought it would clear up very quickly, and you shouldn-t notice it after 2 days. Might depend if you are using patches / gum or inhalator, then the taste will still be there but not the smell. You might notice your tongue tingling - this is the nerves coming back to life!!

If it continues, see a dentist.

how soon after quititting I should think about kids?
Smoking damages almost all aspects of sexual, reproductive and child health, according to a report.
reduces the chances of a woman conceiving by up to 40% per cycle.

A review of 20 studies revealed that

pregnant women who smoke
are approximately 27 percent more likely to deliver preterm than those who don’t smoke.
Studies also showed that

pregnant women who quit smoking are 17 percent less likely to deliver preterm than women who continue to smoke throughout pregnancy.
Congratulations and well done! You can think about kids straight away - why not?

Smoking can damage the reproductive process, but after seeing your doctor, there-s no reason why you shouldn-t have children now that you have quit.

I am now an ex-smoker, but still have the cravings. I have been on the patch for 3 days and it feels GREAT to breathe again, i am just worried about slipping up again and how bad I will feel...any advice from ex smokers?
I really hope that your patch quite goes well! I tried the patch and it didn-t work well for me. After about a week I was smoking again. Now I use the Electronic Cigarette, not sure if you have heard of it. I have been smoke free now for about a month or more. I do not have an urge to go back to regular smoking at all! Check out http://esmoketalk.com for others who are using it.

You can also check out http://www.njoy.com or http://www.puresmoker.com for starter kits. They are a healthy alternative to smoking. AND you can smoke them inside places that don-t allow smoking due to the fact that there is no second hand smoke
There is some info on the patch at this site http://nicorettepatch.com/2009/01/nicorette-patch.html. I never smoked but I used to chew tobacco. I quit about 11 years ago and I still have a craving every now and then to this day. I can say that I have not given in. I don;t know if it ever goes completly away, but I realize if I give in just once I may get hooked again. Good luck!

I just quit smoking, and I have a question? -

I just quit smoking using the cold turkey method, and so far, so good. I was wondering, however, why I-m so spaced out. I feel like I could go to sleep right now, sometimes I see stars, and I-m just dazed overall.

I-m not complaining, because I know there-s going to be some major physical changes. I-m just curious about what-s going on with this quit.

Thanks!
Tobacco is a stimulant, and depending how much you smoke and how you smoke it, it can be pretty strong. And addictive, tobacco is one of if not the hardest drug to give up. Going without the little push it gives you is noticeable for a while. Find some other stimulant, more coffee or strong tea.

I always noticed that while I felt sluggish and sleepy my now idle hands found ways to get me in trouble, shredding things, tapping things, etc. It takes weeks to get you body functioning normally and you have to make a conscious effort to shake you self awake and reach you smoker-s energy level.
Good for you. The nicoteen poisons in your body are what is making you feel bad and tired. Avoid drinking caffinated drinks as they will stimulate a desire for a smoke. Instead drink healthy water as it will help to cleanse out the poisons. Usually the most challenging time is the first three days after quitting. Keep up the good work and you will begin to feel better soon. And may God help you
Well, you are probably craving that nicotine and you will probably be a little spaced out for a little while. Remember to give it time because you just quit yesterday. Good luck and congrats on your succesful quit!
if you-re just quitting cold turkey, you-re body is in shock. Give it time before you-re not craving the nicotine anymore. The best thing is that you-ll be a healthier person.

good luck!
That-s natural. It can be really hard to focus for the first couple of weeks! But the symptoms will diminish with time, after reaching a peak 3-5 days out, when all the nicotine is out of your blood.
Good for you. This does seem a little much for only 24 hours off nicotine. How much were you smoking?
You are coming off of a very powerful and addictive drug. You-r doing just fine just stay with it.
It-s normal. You have to deal with it for a while.

Does anyone have information on using lasers or laser therapy to quit smoking? -

I need more info before I invest $350 US to try it. I have tried everything I know of w/o success ($BIG US) including the latest script (chantix).
i have used lasor theropy, and it worked for me. i had been smoking over fourty years and like you i,ve tried many ways to quit, and the lasor theropy is the only success i,ve had.. mind you my wife had the lasor on the same day as me, and it didn,t help her in the least. so i think you have to be mentally prepaired to quit, and if you don,t feel that. you will be wasting your money. you can do it if you are ready to quit.. good luck and keep trying. MR C
I have not heard of laser therapy for smoking but if it works please let us know. I have tried everything also with no success.

Finding it hard to quit smoking? -

i really want to quit smoking so i don-t age before my time, and i don-t want cancer. got any suggestions?
Smoking is more of a psychological addiction than a physical one. If you really want to quit you must discover the reasons why you smoke and then eliminate or change these thought processes. As soon as I dealt with my psychological reasons for smoking I quit, first time and more importantly for good.

Once you deal with the psychological side of smoking it makes the quitting process easy, no matter your level of addiction.

Quitting smoking does not require any patches, gums, herbs or anything like that. These methods are expensive, time consuming and simply do not work. All that is required is a bit of motivation, self belief and determination.

You have two very good reasons for wanting to quit, aging and cancer. Use these as your motivation to quit. Every time you feel like lighting up think about these motivators. Think about how each puff is doing some damage and you are now a step closer to looking older and getting cancer.

By constantly thinking about the negatives of smoking the so called positives quickly lose their appeal.

a strong will power ... is all dat u need..
Cold turkey! Don-t think about it. Just do it!
Will Power is the only way.
the easiest way is to reduce smoking like if you smoke 10 perday reduce smoke 5 day by day you cam make less less and less and when you think you have to smoke try to convert your mind laugh loudly or eat something which is complete opposite means if you eat HALSE OR VICKS you get anywhere just take this when you think about smoke if you want to smoke but can it create very ugly taste so you can delay in smoking by that take of smoke will reduce stay with your parents and relation where you get fear stay there why you can smoke in front of your PARENTS by that you can control try try try think think think you you can you can stop stop this this it is just stop smoking that all

Just stop thinking about it. and be away from the people who do smoke, for at least 1 month. Then U-ll have will-power, enough to sustain the temptation.

Ive just quit smoking, would exercise improve my health? -

can exercise improve the state of my lungs? or once it-s damaged is it too late?
Give it a try if you can. At some point the damage is permanent. But the body has AMAZING recuperative powers. When you don-t suck down those incredibly poisonous fags, your lungs might just revert to perfect....
the short answer is yes.. for me i quit too late, and do have some damage.. but i watch my energy levels and do fine, although i require some oxygen.. congrats on your decision there is really no wrong way to quit..

the good news is that i now have been quit for over 5 years.. i quit trying to quit alone, and joined a support group.. i attend nicotine anonymous meetings both locally and on line.. on line voice meetings are as close as your computer, and you can attend while still smoking, before actually attempting a quit.. however you decide to quit good luck, there is simply no wrong way to quit!!

Hi its never to late to improve your health. Exercise is good for you even if you only walk 30 minutes per day that will help you loose weight, the biggest problem you will probably have is the craving for a cigarette once you are over that its not so bad it has taken me three attempts to stop smoking in that time i gained a lot of weight mainly through comfort eating .Once i lost the craving i then started to exercise and eventally learned to control my craving for junk food.If you can get a proper training Program then you will lose weight quickly the hard part is keeping the weight off.But with good exercise you should see a big difference and that is all the incentive you will need Good Luck
Exercise will always help your lungs. Athletes call it cardio conditioning, it allows them to go longer distance before oxygen depletes from the lungs. So, I-d assume when you quit smoking and start exercising it would be the same.

Quit smoking? -

i have to quit smoking for health reasons but i still like smoking, im finding it very difficult as i suffer from anxiety and smoking calmed me, i can-t use patchs as they made me very ill even the weak strength, i cant take the tablet as that will interfere with my other meds, i haven-t tried the inhaler or the gum can any one help me with this?
the gum worked for me
I dont think that the inhaler will help you, after all you need to break the habit of -hand to mouth-. I my opinion the gum tastes like you-re chewing an ashtray.
Just try your hardest, every time you feel yourself weaken, drink a glass of water, it will help cleanse your mouth, and busy yourself with something.
Good Luck, I know you-ll do it x
You could try hypnotherapy? I tried it and it didn-t work, but I-m told it works for many people, so maybe its worth a try?
I myself have been looking to quit smoking.
Have you ever considered trying hypnosis therapy?
It has been known to work for man.
The nicotine gums are designed to give you a nicotine hit.
Maybe they are worth a try as you ha vent tried them.
The inhaler is designed for the feeling of holding a cigarette, plus you inhale the nicotine(not very pleasant).
Maybe you could try just cutting down while you find a solution that helps you.
Good luck.
Perhaps you can ask your doctor about a brand new drug on the market:

Stop-Smoking Pill Approved by FDA

Read story below
Try -Cold Turkey- .....Will over matter...
you must stop if you want to live you have been told,so do it no excuse you can phone the free number for a free DVD,go to your health clinic, there are classes you can en roll in and other people will help you go swimming to relieve your anxiety or go for a session of reflexology ,aromatherapy, there will be something for you I promise, try the gum and ordinary gums good too keeps the mouth fresh best of luck go on you know you can do this?
I went to a hypnotist a year - a half ago. I also know it takes ON AVERAGE 3 tries before you get it right. (it was 3 for me) Good luck, you can do it.
ps the hyp was about $200 for the first session, if you relapse, you come back for $60-90. worth every penny. Still cant believe I did it!!! And there-s NO WAY I would have put the cigs down - walked away.
Why give up?

My friend, it takes willpower to smoke so don-t give up so damn easily, your body must be telling you that you need to buy Marlboro Lights. You have to really cultivate your habit, just try smoking 15/20 a day to start off and build it up to a credible 30 or so. Maybe even take up cigars also and at least consider chewing tobacco.

HOW ELSE ARE YOU GOING TO EXERCISE YOUR LUNGS?

As I said, people with no willpower give up (you have to be committed to the cost, health aspects, bad smell, nasty taste, social ostrisisement etc) and you don-t strike me as a wimp.

IT IS BIG AND IT IS CLEVER.

So pull yourself together, stop this ill advised and ridiculous venture into considering non smoking comformity, you are effectively self harming and that cant be right can it?

NOBODY LIKES A QUITTER.

If you give up it will make you ill, you wont sleep, you will be spouting phlegm so for gods sake just do the right thing and keep giving you body what it needs, a nice, smooth, tasty Marlboro, you know it makes sense.

IT HELPS REDUCE UNWANTED PREGNANCIES.

Just picture it in your head, that something to do with your hands, the missing piece of the jigsaw when you have a coffee or a beer, that sweet smooth flavour of American tobacco gently coursing through your lungs and making you feel right again.

BEAR IN MIND THAT IT IS THE ONLY WAY TO RECYCLE TOBACCO - YOU WOULD BE HARMING THE ENVIRONMENT BY NOT SMOKING. ISN-T THAT A LITTLE SELFISH? WE ALL NEED TO DO OUR BIT.

If you give up you will eat more and snack on chocolate? That can-t be good can it - non smoking is plain unhealthy.

SMOKING HELPS REDUCE WEIGHT AS PART OF A CALORIE CONTROLLED DIET. IT ALSO MAKES YOU LOOK HARD.

One final point to make my friend, you could get hit by a bus tomorrow so why are you being such a lightweight. Go and get yourself a beer right now and spark one up, you will feel so much better and this whole nightmare of having to think about giving up will end. In fact, have a few beers because smoking is always allowed if you-re drunk. Why conform to the establishment when you could be making a personal statement about your belief in freedom.

Good luck, stop the madness.
I say only say that you will need a lot of self control. It will be difficult, but consider what you have in life, if you have an husband or child, are these more important to you along with you health, or is smoking more important.

have you asked your doctor, what would be suitable to help you due to the meds you are taking.

I suffer with anxiety but fortunately don-t smoke, but I know others who do, so I do know how you feel by saying smoking helps to keep you calm.

Do you best to quit, try cutting down, take up an hobby, something that will take your mind of your urge to smoke and to help calm your anxiety at the same time.

Every day is going to be hard for you because your need to stop smoking is for your health, seek support from family and friends.

I wish you all the best, hope you found some advice in this answer.

good luck with your -stop smoking-
I dont smoke but do suffer anxiety, so I can see why you would feel the need to do it. Could you not try going to your GPs for something to calm the anxiety? Smoking may be doing you far worse. Good luck.
I also had medical problems ,especially respiratory ones.I had tried patches previously to no avail. I doubt that nicotine replacement therapy will help you. The first thing is that you realise your state of health and determine to not smoke or you are bound to die a nasty death. It is your decision to make. If you don-t have the willpower to decide to give up all the medications in the world won-t help you.You say that tablets will interfere with your current medication. Are you sure of this? Ask your doctor if a new drug called Champix, the ingredient is varenicline, can be taken together with your other meds. This new drug is very effective and does not use nicotine replacement. It suppresses the part of the brain that makes you want to smoke, it makes cigarettes distasteful and helps reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings. It is a 3 month course, which should be monitored by your doctor or practice nurse. It is a prescription only tablet. It has a success rate of over 30% of those who take it, which is higher than for any other method. II took it for two months and gave up. I had smoked up to 40 a day for 60years.Although my lungs are in a bad shape my overall health is better. See your doctor and perhaps give it a go. Good luck anyway. A PS . The only side effect I experienced and I believe others also was that after taking the tablet I felt a bit nauseous for about an hour, not enough to actually be sick, just queasy. You take two tablets a day.
hi there i gave them up when i found out my mother has cancer im off them 6 mounts now, i to suffer from anxiety and they might came you down but they will only kill you in the long run...
I advise u to see consult-er. He-ll give u the best way to quit smoking.
Hi,I stopped smoking with Allen Carrs -the easy way to stop smoking- its a book,I read it in an afternoon ,finished it, and havent smoked since, that was 9 months ago.

It has got a 53% success rate, twice as high as patches, look on his web site, thousands have given up with it,he also does a day course, its about £300 but the course has a 92% success rate.

I read about the book on answers, lots of people recommended it,some of my friends have done it this way too,he puts something in your subconcious, its brilliant.

By the way did you know nicotine is a stimulant and it makes you more anxious in the long run,Im much calmer since i stopped smoking.

Good luck with whichever way you try?
I gave up in January with the quit smoking clinic at local doctors, and ive been tobacco free ever since.
I started with the fruit gum, then later on switched to the mint lozengers with help me lots.
I use to smoke other stuff to but to substitue it or to mix with it i brought some legal high herbal blend for bad days totally tobacco free and quite relaxing.
This is a difficult situation and being an ex-smoker myself I understand how you must feel especially since I used to get panic attacks and depression and the smoking helped to relax me. I was given an ultimatum give up or have a machine do my breathing for me.
I thought I could never do it, but I went completely cod turkey that same day, I brought polos as they helped every time I craved a cigarette and i had a small pencil that I could hold between my fingers to simulate a cigarette.

Try it, it does help - for the first few days try to avoid places where others smoke heavily. If you go to places where people only smoke occassionally and breathe in their fumes the desire to smoke will become less prominent as you are getting a nicotine fix without having to actually light a fag. After a while even the smell of other peoples smoke will make you feel ill so it will work, but slowly.

You cannot give up overnight so dont try as it will just make it harder. Listen to relaxing music every time you feel anxious and follow the tips I gave in one of your earlier questions.
go to your doctor and they can give you these fags, and you have a course of them and they slowly lower the nicoten in them and then you quit, there good, i know from experience
I had to quit smoking because I got Braces on my teeth, maybe you should try that

Hi,i gave up smoking just over a year ago all with the help of sweets.Apparently it-s the sugar in the molasses used to make tobacco brown that the body craves for.My sister did it and recommended it to me and it worked.Get yourself some Werthers Original Sweets.[they are the highest sugar content sweet on the market]You must only have one when you feel like a cigarette,it takes the craving away.It was only about 6 weeks later that i gave up the sweets and have not wanted to smoke since.It-s worth a go,try it and let me know.

If you REALLY want to quit, for me the easiest way was to use the prescription drug called -Chantix-. It worked like a charm, when nothing else I-d tried did. Below is a link to read about it. Good luck.
If you really want to quit smoking, your family Doctor can prescribe some meds to help with that. There are other meds besides nicotine patch.
I would pray about it.. that is what I do with really tough problem! Because smoking to would be a hard one to quit.. I would pray to god and ask him for his help!
You got 3 choices.

I just quit smoking cold turkey, and my cravings are pretty bad. Tonight i just took 2 mg clonazepam (the pills were prescribed to me anyway beforehand), in hopes of calming my mind down. Does anyone know if this will help?
It-s not going to help you with the nicotine cravings during the day. You need to try the nicotine gum, lozenge, or patch to help with the cravings.
Yeah, it should feed your dopamine and seratonin. I know some benzos are used to cure alcohol withdrawals, so they should help at least a little bit. The only danger with them, is the fact that they in themselves are quite addictive. Yet nicotine is one of the tougest things to come off from, I went through amphetamine withdrawals, and they weren-t as bad as nicotine withdrawals.
I would strongly recommend taking the patch. It helped me quit. Also they offer hypnosis if you are really serious about quitting. My father went through that. I don-t think the pills you are taking will help your addiction at all...sorry.

Quit smoking 3 days ago and need some encouragement!? -

The first day was ok, the last couple of days the cravings have been bad. I was smoking about 10 cigs a day during the week and loads more at the weekend, for about 10 years. Anyone out there who has quit? got any tips? Is there really a light at the end of the tunnel?! Thanks.
there is a light at the end of the tunnel! i have been smoke free just over a year and so far I never even think about it. when I first decided to quit this time, I did not tell anyone. In the past when I had attempted(and failed)I always had everyone asking me constantly-how is it going? have you smoked yet? and crap like that- which constantly reminded me. Also when the urged hit I would visualize 2 little guys on my shoulders 1 encouraging me to go ahead smoke and on the other shoulder the good guy saying no way you can do it! and I would in my mind flick the bad lil guy off..I know it sounds silly but it work. I had smoked for almost 30 yrs! cold turkey is the best way, the whole point is to stop the nicotine and all those aids that ween you off just is wasting your money.
Good luck to you .......and if you need encouragement feel free to message me.
Well done, I packed up nearly a year ago.
Do watch your weight.
Get out and enjoy regular exercise.

The best news is that you now smell nice and you are much, much nicer to kiss.
You have done the worst, I quit 3 years ago, don-t want any at all now. I used to smoke 20-30 a day.
Now if you want one have a packet of sweets preferably mints or menthol to suck instead after a few days you will be able to give these up too, don-t worry about any weight you gain it will come off again when you stop any craving for food. now work out how much you have saved and go and blow it on something you really want that will last you a long time, do that now and again as every time you see or use it you van think am I happier with this or would I have preferred to burn the money and ruin my health.
You will notice that your food tastes better, and you will recoil from the terrible stink of other smokers, although in the early days that is sometimes appealing, don-t let it get you down or drawn in to trying one as that will just start you off again. instead go and do something else even just have a glass of water or go for a walk, or do some work anything to take your mind off of it.
don-t think you are giving up, think of your self as a none smoker which is what you are.

A friend of mine packed it in years ago he found it a great help to keep say this mantra
I am pure
I am clean
I am free
from nicotine

I did it you can too, good luck. hope this helps.
Think of me...I used to smoke, however, 5 yrs ago became deathly ill, couldn-t breathe whatsoever, coughing so bad, constant bronchitis, had to sleep sitting up, not fun... neither is Cancer, Emphysema, Asthma. COPD or any other lung/heart disease...
Be strong and want to live... :)
Your health is already better and you-ve saved yourself a few quid.
You can do it - you know you should, so DO IT! Get some hard candy to substitute for the cigs.
A lady I worked with stop smoking, she smoked for years and years. She set a stop date... and just stopped. You-ve done this part.

2 weeks.... give yourself 2 weeks.... and the craving won-t be as bad! But as soon as you smoke one, the craving will be back.
i stopped smoking 6 months ago, and i really feel for you because i know how hard it can be. first of all, use some kind of nicotine replacement such as gum or patches, i used the patches and they really do help. you can also get them for free off your doctor or a local quit smoking service.

also, if you can get down to holland - barrett, they do a homeopathic medicine called rhus tox which can help with the cravings and irritability.

register on clicktoquit as well, and you get a calender which tells you day by day how much money you have saved, how your health is getting better etc.

but most of all be strong, have faith in yourself, if you believe you can do it you will. take each day at a time, each morning just say to yourself -i won-t smoke today-. good luck, and be very proud of yourself each smoke-free day xx
Good for you. What you are doing is not only better for you but is better for the world and the environment. If only there were more great people like you.
every time you crave for one think what it does to u and how u will never see the future
Remember - smoking stinks, it makes your clothes, hair and breath smell. Your teeth and fingers go yellow and it ages your skin. It makes you breathless and unfit. Plus it is incredibly expensive!

When you want to smoke - distract yourself, preferably with something that will keep your hands busy as well as your mind active. Chewing gum and mints are good, so is drinking a fizzy drink.

Deep breaths and try to relax whenever you can. Remember that if you start again, what you have gone through for the last three days would have been for nothing. There is light at the end of the tunnel. You should be getting over the cravings soon, the nicotine will be out of your system.

Good luck with this, you have already done really well to stick it out through the worst part.
Start chewing gum and count the money in your purse. Stopped 3 years ago after a lifetime smoking. Warning, watch your weight, I put on 3 stone [14lbs =1 stone]
Come on you can do it so let you mouth be clean of all that tar nicertin and the other 1000 poison in that cigg. (-8
good for you, just take each day as it comes and you should feel really proud for going even one day without a ciggie, congrats
good girl dont crack.try dummy fags that give you a nicotine hit or any thing at all.i quit 5 years ago i used zyban tablets but there is a new one out now(dont remember name)thats even better.when you get the munchies have a bowl of chopped fruit.its hard but worth it.i used to smoke rocky up till a few months ago.you know your a non smoker when you can have 1 joint on a sat night then not even think about a fag next day.stay strong stay healthy
I quit smoking while in hosp for 6 days and 2 more out. I-m really sorry I can-t help you........ There is a light at the end of the tunnel.........(that was me flicking my bick).
stick with it and before you know it you will really feel good and wonder what youever saw in fags good luck
It can be done. I-ve been an on again off again smoker for a while. Chewing gum helps me, or brushing your teeth if you have a craving. Also, I-ve heard cravings will go away if you can resist for 30 minutes. Another thing I-ve heard is that if you can go a month you can break an addiction. So good luck! All you have to do is get over that hump and it can be done
i have tried many times and yes the 3rd 4th days are the hardest try to do or think of some thing else
i wish you all the best
Yaaayyyy!!! Well done, a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step!!! Take air in, like you would if you were smoking, but enjoy breathing fresh air, sounds stupid, but it is a state of mind to.

Drink water cold from the fridge with ice cubes, keep carrots strips and celery in the fridge to nibble on instead of ******** - go for a walk, take a lovely bath with candles and music, diversion being the name of the game! Have you noticed how good everything tastes already?

How nice things smell? Now go and smell your old clothes and bedding- which you will find smells like a dirty old ash tray, trust me.

I did it 15 years ago, and I still occasionally think I would like a ciggy, but I feel better, smell better, dress better, cos I can now afford some clothes! That silly little tube of c**** is not going to rule and possibly end your life anymore!

So hang in there girl, YOU know YOU are worth it!

.
Well done, keep going.

Tomorrow will be day 4, then day 5, and so on.

Look at yourself in the mirror, and say --You-re Brilliant--.

You are!.
Wow, Izz....you are sooo strong! Good 4 U!
All good advice here.
My daughter quit 2 yrs ago this month, after many years and many cigs...got preg. immediately(which is what she-d hoped), and hasn-t looked back (course she has a 14 month old to run after - keep her hands busy now!)
My hubby tried zyban, but it made him CRAZY(he only took 1 and was speeding for 2 days!) He-s on-again off-again, but it-s breaking his lungs and our (itty-bitty) bank...so he know-s he-ll have to attempt it and succeed next time.
I wish you all the absolute best in your success!
Having someone you can call in weak moments (a friend who will support your attempts but not chide you)is a super help.
Remember to think of all the benefits...I saw a poster once, of the beautiful face of a young girl, of which half was ravaged by nicotine. The poster said, -If you looked, on the outside, like you do on the inside, would you quit?- That was the most (literally) in-your-face impact I-ve ever seen in a quit-smoking promo. Think of that when you need encouragement!
When it-s most difficult, think of what you would say to someone you love, about something they-re doing to destroy themselves, and say it to yourself in the mirror. After all, you should be the one you love most...and are surely thought of this way by others.
You will be so thankful when this is all over and you can admire your handiwork! Plan to celebrate your success! Good things will happen to you once you see what you are capable of accomplishing!
GO IZZY GO IZZY GO IZZY GO GO!!!
you are gonna look and feel so much better in a few days time. nothing could possiblly beat that. Very well done. Have a nice bath and a nice choccy drink. you deserve it tonight.
whatever u-v saved on ciggies cash ways, treat urself on Saturday.
Just think of all that extra cash that you will have in your pocket at the end of the month/year and of how you are going to treat yourself - new outfit, great holiday - let the sky be your limit. I-m told the first week is the worst and that it gets easier after that. You know that you have made a very good choice. I wish you well. Good luck
don-t give in it will get better, just breath in through your nose and out through your mouth when the cravings start this will help get you through it and you can do this without any one knowing what you are doing. good luck will keep a candle lighting for you to stay off them .
my boyfriend quit, as i made him (mean i know) but it worked, he was like that at first and did have a few relapses but ultimatly just think of what you are doing for your health!!he can run so much better and doesnt wheeze half as much. try finding a support groiup online where you can encourage on another and hopefully you will find someone who is havig the same problems. It will end you just have to sit it out... maybe try the smoking pens (the patches made my boyfriends arm numb) x

Will my anxiety level drop if i quit smoking? -

Absolutely!

I couldn-t think of a better way to help your anxiety.

It will be hard to begin with, but you will get there.

All the best.
I thought it was strange that non one has answered this, yet, but that is probably because everyone knows that your anxiety is very likely to shoot through the roof if you quit.

And, it wouldn-t be very P.C. to say so.
Nicotine bars the functioning of protein in our cells to travel in blood stream to regenerate dead cells. if you are not healthy, you cant fight anxiety.
yes, but if you-re smoking i wouldn-t be worried about anxiety. i would worry about how i cut 15 years off my life (2 or more years of smoking) true fact.
yes :) go for it!

I want to desperately quit smoking i am trying hard but not successful any suggestions? -

pray about it....I gave up smoking...thru prayer....I gave it up cold turkey!!! And never went back...that was 25 years ago!!! You can do it!!!
Buy the type of chewing gum or candy that is suitable for smokers who want to quit. Maybe you can see in some health stores.
throw away all of your cigs. and lighters. omg k so my uncle has been smokeing 60 years.

i got him to stop because i told him to go run 2 miles a day....
he did but he gradually stopped....

maybe do this....

1. put 5 cigs on your shelf.
2. only have one per day
3. drrink TONS OF WATER.
4. once u have all the cigs ..look in the mirror and say. do i want to die?
5. you should answer no.hahha
6.take the rest of your cigs and throw it away. say goodbye. forever.
This is just my POV but try the patches rather than the gum cos I-ve heard you can get addicted to the gum and also get a hobby. If you have a hobby you-re less likely to need a smoke in your hands. My dad can go a whole day without smoking when he-s working but on his days off he gives steam trains a run for their money. Right now I-m looking at three cups and an ashtray full of smokes. cos of the christmas holidays hes not working. So get a hobby which needs concentration and to use your hands and try the patches.
They have laser treatment nowadays and it is high EFFECTIVE.
Everyone I have ever known that actually quit went cold turkey. The first three weeks are hell, but after that, not bad. At least that is what they tell me.
pray everyday, take lecithin,b vitamins and eat lots of red licorice, unless you are diabetic...i smoked from 14 -22 and am 50
Just be very dedicated to it..
keep candy-s by your side, so when you feel the craving of smoking a ciggarette... reach down and suck on a hard candy, sunflower seed, or even a straw.
Try hypnosis. I went to one session that cost me $300 and I never smoked again. Matt Damon quit smoking this way also.

How did you quit smoking? -

As for me, it was a nine day stay in the hospital. My left lung collapsed due to fluid building up around the lining of the lung. Had to have surgery to scrape away mucous attached to the lung. Scared the heck out of me and I just went home and haven-t had a cigarette since. Just quit cold turkey. That was almost two years ago. What finally made you quit and how did you do it?
I read an article about how it affects you and your family as passive smokers. I felt very guilty and stoped smoking one morning. Cold turkey too. It-s the best way.
Before that I tried gums, patches and anti depressants, They all suck because you know you are still dependent on something.
i live in the northeast and it cold in the winter. i was just sicken trier of smoking out on the cold. so i quit and the price of the cigarette factor in it.
I gave up back in 1990 and used nicorette chewing gum. So glad I did because of the price they are today is shocking.
Cold turkey and the stimulus was a new baby (grandbaby) coming to our house. Didn-t want her subjected to second hand smoke. So quit, cleaned the house from top to bottom and no one is allowed to smoke in my house now. That was over 17 years ago. I smoked for 28 years so lucky I have minimal lung damage.
Easy, I never started it.
Lot-s of internal strength, exercise, occupying yourself, not thinking about smoking and professional help
I found it quite easy and did it lots of times.
i didn-t but congratulations to you on freeing yourself from those chains.
I used to smoke and have completely stopped. The main thing to do is whenever the urges and thoughts about smoking come to you, IGNORE THEM. When you think about a problem, you give it credibility, thus giving it power. When you ignore the problem and keep your mind off of it, you make it powerless. The key is to not acknowledge the problem and keep your mind focused on something else. Do ANYTHING you possibly can to prevent the thoughts from coming. Try substituting daily exercise in place of smoking. However, if you can-t exercise due to your breathing problem, I suggest you try something that will benefit you in other ways and focus on that. This has worked for me. Anyway goodluck, and I hope you find the answer.
I was having problems breathing, every time I lit a cigarette, so quit. I waited two weeks and started again, and in a couple days was having the same problems, so as you did ,quit cold turkey. That was 26 years ago, and so glad I did it. Congratulations, and I hope you never pick up another one.
went cold turkey , just suddenly felt like quitting and i think i was quite lucky i did not get the urge to smoke again yet well i hope not :) .. i was a a heavy smoker and smoked for almost 15 years.
Hi,
If you realy wants to quit smoking then The methods to quit smoking are

At this time the most effective methods for quitting is a combination of nicotine replacement products and the antidepressant drug bupropion bolstered by counselling.

1. Nicotine replacement

Nicotine replacement products provide low doses of nicotine that do not contain the contaminants found in smoke. They are proving to be twice as helpful as other standard quitting methods. Replacement products include nicotine patches, gums, nasal sprays, and inhalers. Side effects of any nicotine replacement product may include headaches, nausea, and other gastrointestinal problems. People often experience sleeplessness in the first few days, particularly with the patch, but the insomnia usually passes. Patients using very high doses are more likely to experience symptoms, and reducing the dose can prevent them. Certain individuals like people with heart disease, pregnant women, small children may need to avoid nicotine replacement products.

Nicotine patches: Nicotine patches, or transdermal nicotine, can be an effective way to quit smoking. The quit rate for patch users is around 20% after six months. Nicotine patches are available over the counter, but it is best to consult a doctor before using them, particularly people with any medical problems.

Nicotine gum: Nicotine gum (Nicorette), available over the counter, has also been effective for a number of people. Some prefer it to the patch because they can control the nicotine dosage and chewing satisfies the oral urge. Long-term dependence may be a problem with this method.

Nicotine inhaler: The nicotine inhaler resembles a plastic cigarette holder. It comes with a number of nicotine cartridges which are inserted into the inhaler. It has some specific advantages over other slower nicotine replacement products:

Nicotine nasal spray: The nasal spray satisfies immediate cravings by providing doses of nicotine rapidly, and thus may play a useful role in conjunction with slower acting nicotine replacement therapies.

Nicotine tablet: A nicotine tablet that is held under the tongue is also very useful.

2. Alternative and ther Methods for Quitting

Scheduled reduction: One study showed that people who used a systematic withdrawal schedule were twice as likely to quit as those who went cold turkey. The procedure involves the following steps:

Divide the number of minutes per day awake by the number of daily cigarettes; the result is the minute-long wait between smokes.

Set up a schedule with time intervals based on this result and using a timer, smoke only at those intervals; if the -cigarette appointment- is missed by more than five minutes, the smoker must skip that cigarette.

The following week, one-third fewer cigarettes are used and the smoking time is recalculated based on the lower number.

During the third week the count is again reduced by a third, and the smoker quits in the fourth week.
Change daily habits:

Change the daily schedule as much as possible. Eat at different times or eat many small meals instead of three large ones, sit in a different chair, rearrange the furniture.

Find other ways to close a meal. Play a tape or CD, eat a piece of fruit, get up and make a phone call, or take a walk (a good distraction that burns calories as well).

Substitute oral habits (eat celery, chew sugarless gum, suck on a cinnamon stick.) Go to public places and restaurants where smoking is prohibited or restricted.

Set short-term quitting goals and reward yourself when they are met, or every day put the money normally spent on cigarettes in a jar and buy something pleasurable at the end of a predetermined period of time.

Find activities that focus the hands and mind but are not taxing or fattening: computer games, solitaire, knitting, sewing, whittling, crossword puzzles.

Avoid heavy drinking of alcohol, caffeine, or other stimulants or mood altering substances.

Enjoy Life
I-ve been quit for 3 weeks now, and I could not have survived it without the patch and an arsenal of sugarfree gum. I looked into Chantix, but they bring on hallucinations and sometimes very vivid nightmares. The patch will give you vivid dreams too, but most of them are good ones and sometimes even kinky ones. It-s weird. BUT, kinky dreams or not, the patch is working for me so far, and I was smoking a pack and a half a day for 16 years.
got pregnant
your a women who quit cold turkey?

never heard such a thing. your story has inspired me to quit.

if you christian say a prayer for me, please thanx

wow i just got weepy eyed

congratulations on your accomplishment you deserve it
I have given up smoking three times. And it was the first time that was the hardest to quit. The other two times I started again due to stress. I tried many times before succeeding. I was short of money to last for smokes to last the week. And decided my son would benefit more by me spending the money on bread, milk and useful things.I was a very heavy smoker. And I quit cold turkey. But one secret for me was keeping away from smokers at first. The second time I quit and the husband(now ex-phew thank god for that,,hehe) was smoking and it didn-t bother me.It is hard, but worth it.Being able to breathe better is one great reason I especially noticed.Less wasted money is a good reason. Lots of reasons to quit of course. It is hard but worth it. It is now a few years since I smoked.A few times lately under stress I have thought about if maybe I should buy some ciggi-s,and I know all too well it would be a very unwise decision.

I quit smoking and now I cant taste anything, Is this normal? -

The tasteless feeling will stay there for few days. Then everything will become as it was previous. It might be due to the some medicines taken.
First of all! Well done on quitting smoking! I know it-s a tough journey but well worth it. It-s normal to not be able to taste anything if you smoked for a few years. Unfortunately, it-s just a matter of waiting it out. Drink plenty of water and taste will return in a few weeks. Best of luck!
look... of course it is normal because if you smoked for a long period of time, the smoke you breath will definitely eat your tongue. just like eating too much salt will have no taste. but drink lots of water and sours. so hoped that helped
It depends on how long you have smoked for about a year or more than it-s normal, if you have only smoked for about 5 months or less, then it is not. Hope I answered your question completely.
idk, you fried off all of your taste buds with a cigarette in your mouth so maybe. Ask your doctor.
sometimes
lay off the salt.

Anybody here quit smoking with that laser treatment? -

does it work?
I got laser therapy on saturday (may 6th) and have not smoked since! i have absolutely no cravings OR WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS! I do think about smoking occasionaly...for like a few seconds then I seem to forget. I guess this is part of getting rid of the mental/habitual aspect of it. Hope this helps! Good luck!!
What? Laser treatment for smoking???? I don-t see how that could help, unless they laser your mouth shut so you can-t have a drag of a cig??
just stop its cheaper and if you are not ready to now you will when the time is right
This method works for me and is the only money back guaranteed.
I quit smoking 2 years ago

Get the Facts
Easyway, founded by Allen Carr in 1983, has the highest independently verified 12-month success rate (75.8% for a smoker completing the program) of any quit smoking technique and a 90% satisfaction rating.

Compare Easyway to other methods and see for yourself why Easyway is called “The Cadillac of quit smoking methods.”

The Allen Carr Method
HOW THE METHOD WORKS

Using psychotherapy, the method works in the opposite way to the “willpower” method. It does not concentrate on the reasons the smoker should not smoke : the money, the slavery, the health risks and the stigma. Smokers know all that already. Instead it focuses on why smokers continue to smoke in spite of the obvious disadvantages.

It is fear that keeps smokers hooked!

Fear the smoker will have to give up their pleasure or crutch. Fear the smoker will be unable to enjoy life or handle stress. Fear the smoker will have to go through an awful trauma to get free. Fear the smoker will never get completely free from the craving.

The Method removes these fears
Smokers quit with the Allen Carr Method as happy non-smokers, not feeling deprived but with a huge sense of relief and elation that they have finally achieved what they always wanted….

TO BE FREE!

What about the terrible withdrawal pangs from nicotine?

The physical withdrawal from nicotine is so slight that most smokers don’t realise that they are addicts. What smokers suffer when they try and quit using other methods is the misery and depression caused by the belief that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch.

The Allen Carr Method removes this feeling of deprivation.
It removes the need and desire to smoke. Once the smoker is in the right frame of mind and they follow the simple instructions, the physical withdrawal from nicotine is hardly noticeable.

No Gimmicks!

The Method does not use any gimmicks, useless aids or substitutes. No nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, tabs, inhilators or nasal sprays! No needles! No lasers! No drugs! No herbs! No shock treatment!

The Allen Carr Method is successful because:

It removes the smokers’ conflict of will.
There are no bad withdrawal pangs.
It is instantaneous and easy.
It is equally effective for long-term heavy smokers and light smokers.
You need not gain weight.
You will not miss smoking.

Medical Endorsements

A personal view from Professor Judith Mackay MBE, JP, FRCO (Edin), FRCP (Lon), World Health Organisation Advisory Panel on Tobacco and Health

“I have no hesitation in supporting Allen Carr’s work. Many clinics use some of his techniques but it would appear that few do it in quite such a successful package.”

Carole Johnson, Coronary Heart Disease Prevention Unit, Tyne Tees

“his success rate was such that, when budgets allow, we continue to use Easyway for work with specific groups and individuals.”

Dr Anil Visa BSc, MBBch., FRCA, Consultant – Royal Hospitals NHS Trust – Royal London Hospital

“I have observed the Allen Carr method at first hand and have found it to be very successful and I wholeheartedly support it as an effective way to quit smoking.”

Dr William Green, Head of Psychiatric Dept, Matilda Hospital, Hong Kong

“It is a remarkable fact that Allen Carr, on his own admission a non-professional in behaviour modification, should have succeeded where countless psychologists and psychiatrists holding postgraduate qualifications have failed, in formulating a simple and effective way to stop smoking.”

Dr Martin Jarvis, Principle Scientist, Imperial Cancer Research
Fund and Reader in Health Psychology, University College London

”...I am more than happy to testify to Allen Carr’s enduring involvement and to recognise the value of the kind of behavioural and cognitive support he provides.”

Dr PM Bray MB CH.b., MRCGP

“I was really impressed by the method. In spite of the Allen Carr organisation’s success and fame, there were no gimmicks and the professional approach was something a GP could readily respect. I would be happy to give a medical endorsement of the method to anyone.”

Celebrity Endorsements

-His method is absolutely unique, removing the dependence on cigarettes, while you are actually smoking. I’m pleased to say it has worked for many of my friends and staff.”
Sir Richard Branson

“Some friends of mine who had stopped using Allen Carr’s method suggested I tried it. I did. It was such a revelation that instantly I was freed from my addiction. Like those friends of mine, I found it not only easy but unbelievably enjoyable to stay stopped.”
Sir Anthony Hopkins

GOOD LUCK!
didn-t work for me
this did:
Quitting smoking is extremely difficult. The withdrawl makes us not want to, but we know the risks and we know that they are not worth it. For anyone who wants to end their nicotine addiction, check out www.stopsmokingcleveland.com. This is the MOST effective method on the market. It is 86% effective and the details of the program are on the website (no signing up or submitting your information).

I tried this program and it changed my life.
