How can i stop my husband to quit smoking? -

You can-t. It-s an addiction that-s difficult to quit. But let him know that you love him and that you want the best health possible. My father died from smoking and it was terrible to watch. He had emphysema and literally drowned in the fluid building up in his lungs. I wish your husband could have spent one hour with my father while he was in the hospital, watching all the procedures they had to do to keep his lungs clear. Your husband would give up smoking immediately. But like I said, it-s an addiction that is very difficult to give up.
My husband stopped because I told him that I loved him and needed him to live and be healthy so we can spend more time together. I also told him that his breath stinked. Ha-ha. I wouldn-t kiss him as often so he missed that and I guess he got tired of brushing his teeth everytime he wanted a kiss.
If your husband loves smoking, you can become more lovely and alluring. Please try it in all sincerity.
Don-t shame him and nag - offer suggestions. Tell him to think of it as a bad habit that-s affecting you both and habits can be changed, then suggest ways to look at the possibilities of this change.
He wont die or have a heart attack or lose a limb or go into respiratory arrest or suddenly grow out of control cancer cells - if he quits. But he has 50% more chance if he continues smoking.
Maybe, maybe not, some miserable temporary quitting symptoms, but always bearable and the absolute relief to be free of that hassle is worth it.
He can get his instant gratification a heap of other ways - that-s what you can encourage him to be focusing on, not puffing away his life and your respect. Lots of interesting stuff at
http://www.quitguide.com

You can-t. That-s his personal choice, not yours.
Don-t stop him, support him.

By quitting smoking, he will save a lot of heartache and money down the track.
there are many programs online and in the world that help smokers stop.

http://www.cancer.org/docroot/PED/conten…

I recommend this book. It is about how people change, beginning with people who don-t want to change. It shows the stages of change and how to move from one change to the next. Smoking cessation is one thing it deals with.

The book is -Changing for Good- by James O. Prochaska, 1994, ISBN 0-380-72572-X.
I want my boyfriend to quit smoking too because I love him to death and I care about him and his health. Just tell him that you really care about him and tell him about all the deadly diseases he could get from smoking but keep in mind that it-s gonna take 3 major things and that-s time, patience, and support for him to stop for good.
if all else fails, try showing him everything what a smoker deserves. u know what i mean? a lot of diseases.in fact there are more or less 50 diseases out just one stick of cigarette.
THIS METHOD WORKS FOR ME AND IS MONEY BACK GUARANTEED I QUIT SMOKING 2 YEAR AGO WHIT THIS METHOD.

The Allen Carr Method
HOW THE METHOD WORKS

Using psychotherapy, the method works in the opposite way to the “willpower” method. It does not concentrate on the reasons the smoker should not smoke : the money, the slavery, the health risks and the stigma. Smokers know all that already. Instead it focuses on why smokers continue to smoke in spite of the obvious disadvantages.

It is fear that keeps smokers hooked!

Fear the smoker will have to give up their pleasure or crutch. Fear the smoker will be unable to enjoy life or handle stress. Fear the smoker will have to go through an awful trauma to get free. Fear the smoker will never get completely free from the craving.

The Method removes these fears
Smokers quit with the Allen Carr Method as happy non-smokers, not feeling deprived but with a huge sense of relief and elation that they have finally achieved what they always wanted….

TO BE FREE!

What about the terrible withdrawal pangs from nicotine?

The physical withdrawal from nicotine is so slight that most smokers don’t realise that they are addicts. What smokers suffer when they try and quit using other methods is the misery and depression caused by the belief that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch.

The Allen Carr Method removes this feeling of deprivation.
It removes the need and desire to smoke. Once the smoker is in the right frame of mind and they follow the simple instructions, the physical withdrawal from nicotine is hardly noticeable.

No Gimmicks!

The Method does not use any gimmicks, useless aids or substitutes. No nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, tabs, inhilators or nasal sprays! No needles! No lasers! No drugs! No herbs! No shock treatment!

The Allen Carr Method is successful because:

It removes the smokers’ conflict of will.
There are no bad withdrawal pangs.
It is instantaneous and easy.
It is equally effective for long-term heavy smokers and light smokers.
You need not gain weight.
You will not miss smoking.

Medical Endorsements

A personal view from Professor Judith Mackay MBE, JP, FRCO (Edin), FRCP (Lon), World Health Organisation Advisory Panel on Tobacco and Health

“I have no hesitation in supporting Allen Carr’s work. Many clinics use some of his techniques but it would appear that few do it in quite such a successful package.”

Carole Johnson, Coronary Heart Disease Prevention Unit, Tyne Tees

“his success rate was such that, when budgets allow, we continue to use Easyway for work with specific groups and individuals.”

Dr Anil Visa BSc, MBBch., FRCA, Consultant – Royal Hospitals NHS Trust – Royal London Hospital

“I have observed the Allen Carr method at first hand and have found it to be very successful and I wholeheartedly support it as an effective way to quit smoking.”

Dr William Green, Head of Psychiatric Dept, Matilda Hospital, Hong Kong

“It is a remarkable fact that Allen Carr, on his own admission a non-professional in behaviour modification, should have succeeded where countless psychologists and psychiatrists holding postgraduate qualifications have failed, in formulating a simple and effective way to stop smoking.”

Dr Martin Jarvis, Principle Scientist, Imperial Cancer Research
Fund and Reader in Health Psychology, University College London

”...I am more than happy to testify to Allen Carr’s enduring involvement and to recognise the value of the kind of behavioural and cognitive support he provides.”

Dr PM Bray MB CH.b., MRCGP

“I was really impressed by the method. In spite of the Allen Carr organisation’s success and fame, there were no gimmicks and the professional approach was something a GP could readily respect. I would be happy to give a medical endorsement of the method to anyone.”

-His method is absolutely unique, removing the dependence on cigarettes, while you are actually smoking. I’m pleased to say it has worked for many of my friends and staff.”
Sir Richard Branson

“Some friends of mine who had stopped using Allen Carr’s method suggested I tried it. I did. It was such a revelation that instantly I was freed from my addiction. Like those friends of mine, I found it not only easy but unbelievably enjoyable to stay stopped.”
Sir Anthony Hopkins

GOOD LUCK! ;)
you can-t
Have a child and convince the child to fire up a lung dart at the ripe old age of three. Make sure that dad sees him or her smoking and he will quit. We all care more about the impact we make on our kids then the one we make on our own body. I chewed tobacco for 15 years the my 3 year old starting spitting in empty pop bottles.

He is 6 now and I haven-t touched the stuff in 3 years.

How do i quit smoking? -

I started smoking when I was 13 yrs. Now that I-ve been smoking for 7 yrs, I just want to know how can I quit without taking any medicine or medication. I-ve always tried to stop it but my body doesn-t want it. Please help me. thanks.
Educate yourself all the time about nutrition and its effect on the body and performance
Understand that YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT and eat great in order to be great
Understand that NOT ALL CALORIES ARE CREATED EQUAL (same amount of calories from a salmon salad and a pizza will have dramatically different effect on your body
Eat natural organic wholesome foods rich in Micronutrients, such as Minerals, Vitamins and Fiber
The majority of your food should be unprocessed (raw) and fresh
Breakfast and a post-workout meal are the two most important ones and you should never miss them
Every meal, unless it is small snack in between meals should either be well balanced between proteins, carbohydrates and fats or maintain that balance between separate meals.
Avoid extremes in diet approaches, like crash diets or diets that lean excessively in one direction (Atkins)
Make water and fresh-squeezed juices your drinks of choice
Eat your fruits ten to fifteen minutes BEFORE the rest of the meal. Fruits go through the stomach very quickly. That is why because if they are consumed during or after it will sit in your stomach and rotten
You should eat approximately every three hours in order to keep your blood sugar leveled and, therefore, avoid excessive insulin spikes and all the fat on your body that comes with it
Your organic protein choices, such as chicken, fish, lean meats, eggs should be paired up with rich selection of vegetables, including tomatoes, reddish, onion, cucumber, broccoli and others for optimum digestion and absorption
Avoid overly processed foods (fried and deep fried, white bread, bagels, pasta) as they cloak your body and rob it of nutrients instead of providing them
Avoid foods with labels that have too many ingredients (more than a few) and which ingredient list requires a chemistry degree
Avoid products that have sugar as a main ingredient, as it makes you fat, hectic, loosing teeth and bone tissue and to become weak and sick. Enjoy sweet fruits and honey instead
Avoid genetically modified foods
Include Nature’s Super Foods, such as: Radish, Pomegranates, Pumpkin Seeds, Ginger, Coconut Oil, Hemp Seeds, Olive Oil, Papaya, Blue Green Algae, Gogi Berries, Cranberries…

Wait a few more years, say five or so. Listen to your body, and enjoy yourself. These are your prime smoking years, and you should enjoy them!

Seriously, though, keep smoking and just cut down gradually until you are completely tired of smoking and don-t need it any more.
i agree with u don-t need to know. Start slow, say your only going to smoke 10 a day and stick with it. Make up a game, reward yourself with one cig for going 6 hours without. Also take B vitamins, eat healthy and exercise, I know it sounds boring and yeah...yeah...yeah... but it does combat the withdrawal symptoms your going to have.
Its all about will-power , but to help they have these new, inhalers what i do is i put a filter in the end of it in hale on the filter just like have a cigarette but its not obv try it go to your GP and they will give you one.
nicotine patch?
or you can try substituting. like for example, whenever you want a cigarette, chew gum or eat sunflower seeds instead.

good luck!
Try chewing on gum or like mints.Never go near someone who smokes it will make you tempted. Stay away and stick to gum and mints.
Take deep breaths, and try to relax. I-ve quit now for 6 months, and it does get easier...one day at a time.
Go see a hypnotist.

My dad quit that way. Seems to work really good.
thats what you get for being an idiot
try to slowly smoke less and less

Can you quit smoking successfully by just reducing? -

the amount you smoke daily until you are down to no cigarettes or is cold turkey a better route?
Cold turkey is best for me too... but it completely depends on what kind of person you are. How many are you smoking? maybe combine the two methods. Decrease to a small amount, then go cold turkey. Otherwise you might try to justify sneaking a cigarette by telling yourself, -Oh, it-s been a couple days since I last had one. I need to take this slow.-

It only takes eight days for your body to be completely free of nicotine, so after that it-s just the habit that makes you want a cig.

Best of luck to you!
Not everything works the same for everyone.
I quit in 1982 after smoking for 15 years.

I worked myself down from strong cigarettes to the low tar brands in about a month. Then, I went from 3 packs a day to 2 to one, to 10 cigs, to 5 to one then I quit.

No, was still hard but I made up my mind I was going to quit and that was that. I asked myself: -Am i am man or a wimp? Is this little stick of tobacco going to win or am I?-

Well, I won! Good thing too for 5 years later I became a severe asthmatic. I can-t even stand to be around smoke now.

Hey, good luck. If I can quit ANYONE can!
Oh and by the way, cigs were 35 cents a pack when I quit in 82. You have to be rich to smoke nowdays. sheesh!
Cold turkey is best...that is what I did.
You started smoking only a few a day and wound up smoking a pack a day. If you cut down 1 cigarette per week, you-ll be smokefree in 20 weeks.

Anyone used Zyban effectively to quit smoking? How did it work for you? -

I have a fiance that wants to quit smoking but tends to become quite moody and irritable if more than a day or so goes by. I am thinking that a prescription of Zyban would make the difference. How was your experience? Would you recommend it?
it worked great for me, i was moody too (2 packs of marlboro reds a day) it works in 90 days, but i took 2 weeks longer to quit then the doctor said. but it worked, june 16th was my last smoke, and still is. good luck
Zyan worked miracles for me and my husband we buy zyban at

.shipped to you via fedex overnight!

I never used Zyban. I was going to try NicoDerm but I had a better incentive... my daughter said she would never hug me again if I didn-t stop smoking. I quit right then and there (I even gave away an almost full pack of smokes too).

I-ve never touched another cigarette... it has now been almost 4 years since that last cigarette. After the first month my daughter came to me, gave me a big hug and told me she was proud of me!

I hope that whatever method you use will give you the incentive to quit too! Good luck, and know this... you can do it!!!
It is the same as all other anti smoking aids, it will work if you want it too. Zyban did nothing for me but I know quite a few people who it worked for 100%.

Question for any one that has quit smoking? -

Does anyone have any helpful ideas for quitting smoking..like i know theres patches n stuff but anything else or just general ideas like drinking lots of water ect.
What helped you quit....or was it.......COLD TURKEY.. :p eh
thanks
Hi - I quit 23 Feb last year and even now want to smoke! First up, you have to WANT to quit, if you dont want to (like I dont actually want to but HAVE to) then youll struggle.

Stay away from people / places with smoke for a few weeks to get over that -hump-, dont play chicken with how long you can stay in a smokey atmosphere as itll only make you break and have one lol

Distraction works great. If you have a hobby or pass-time, really focus on it in your spare time as this will help keep your mind off the cigs

I went cold turkey, no patches or anything, and I think Ive finally done it! Good luck to you. Drop me a line if you want to chat :D Bxx
i never found any easy way to give up cigarettes as it-s the hardest thing i every finally did (many attempts before it finally worked). The only way to do it is just to do it. Keep yourself really busy (- fit), brush your teeth lots to enjoy the experience of a fresh mouth - throw on a patch just to take some edge off the nicotene withdrawal. Good luck - although it takes ages the urge does go away - one day you will be an annoying ex smoker who hates smoking.
It Metaly hard even after 1 year.
Yaa , U will get these type of idea but always the best one is
the most simple one :-
do it :-

1) Leave friends who r used to smoke.
2) if wanna to smoke then generally try to get 1 cig. rather than a pack
3) try to search for a alternative for smoking

these r done by me and i got benefited.
Giving up smoking was one of the hardest things I have ever done, but in the end I did it!, I went cold turkey for about a month then decided I would try having one, I felt sick and dizzy and that made me stay away from them. My husband used the chewing gum, then went on to the patches, then started having peppermints to replace the cigs, it took a while but he did it.
Good Luck and I hope you succeed. Take care
Question for any one that has quit smoking? -

I keep telling my wife to quit smoking and although she tries she doesnt seem to be able to quit? -

I keep telling my wife to quit smoking and although she tries she doesnt seem to be able to quit? -

It makes me mad when my wife smokes, I have caught her smoking in the house around my 12 year old daugther. Is smoking that addictive? I can-t understand why someone would do something so nasty. Somedays I want to throw my hands up and just get divorced. Any advice on how to help my wife, she says she wants to quit, but hasn-t done so in 22 years. Only short periods of time like 4 months here 4 months there. thanks
Smoking around another person is not only selfish, it is threatening their life. Many children have developed cancer as an adult from their parent having smoked around them. I just finished months and months of chemo and a bone marrow transplant. I had so many tubes coming out of my chest I looked like a giant squid. I DID NOT EVER smoke but my father did. He just had prostate cancer.

Call the American Cancer Society and have them send her all the information on the harm of second-hand smoke. Tell them you want every gory detail, including photos. They will send them for free. That is what I did to my daughter when I caught her smoking. It did the trick.

After your wife gets good and scared, send her to the Dr for help to quit. There are patches out there that are working great for people.
Smoking cigarettes is highly addictive like heroin and it is very hard to quit for some people. She only can quit smoking, if she really wants to. She needs to set a quitting date and need your support. The effects of quitting smoking are not very pleasant for a little while. Tell her, that you love her very much and you don-t want to stand by and watch her killing herself and your daughter as well. She is putting the whole family in danger by smoking around you. Ask her nicely to not smoke in the house or around you guys, because she is putting not only hers but also her family-s health in danger. There are many support groups out there for quitting smoking. She could start by calling 1800NO BUTTS.
Yes, as other posters have noted, smoking is THAT addictive. I quit in 1990. I-m glad I did - I-m sure if I hadn-t I-d be dead by now. And I don-t crave cigs anymore. But if someone told me a comet was about to hit my city, and I didn-t have time to get away from ground zero, I-d probably ask to borrow a smoke. LOL. Seriously - it-s very pleasurable, if you are an addict. I choose not to smoke because I like being in good health. But the biggest reason I refuse to even consider taking another puff is because I never want to go through the hell of quitting again. That-s a serious motivator for most successful quitters.

Next time your wife tries to quit, tell her to remember that each time she can knuckle through a hard craving, if she doesn-t give in, that-s one thing she-ll never have to go through again. Remind her that if she has even -just one,- she-ll have to start over from square one. Remind her if she just doesn-t smoke TODAY, tomorrow will be a bit easier. Help her find ways to substitute something else for the cigs she misses most. For me, I used sugar-free Popsicles - it gave me similar things to do physically and the sweet taste seemed to curb the craving. I also used a patch that they prescribe for blood pressure, which helped me relax during that tough first two weeks (basically, I kind of slept through the worst of the withdrawals). These days they have a lot more options to help. Sites like the one posted below can help her understand the process, find ways to deal with cravings, and gain support from others in the same boat.

Give her lots of positive feedback. She-s doing one of the hardest things a person can do.

It takes about two weeks to get past the physical cravings. The psychological cravings can last a lot longer. I remember about six months out I realized I-d gone through a kind of depression, as if I-d lost a lifelong friend. Remind your wife that if she gets through that first two weeks, the physical addiction is over. But if she ever smokes again, she-ll have to suffer all the effects of quitting again. It-s an addiction, just like alcoholism, that is progressive. If you start again, it starts up right where you left off - and the next time it-s that much harder to break away. So once you quit, there can be no more -just this one.-

And while you have every right to insist that she not smoke in the house or in front of your child, otherwise, there-s no point in pushing it until she-s ready to quit. She will never be able to quit until she-s ready to do it for herself.
it has been proven that cigs are more addicting than cocaine is to a druggie. it is also proven to be harder for female to quit. and when some one like you nags its even harder.i want to quit also, ive been smoking for 27 yrs. ive tried patches they dont help. maybe when your wife gets to the 4 mo. period go out and do something fun and let her buy something as a reward. tell her often how proud you are of her. ive only cut down to 10 a day. how did she make it to 4 mos. any help my way ? im proud of her going that long. and if you would even bring up a divorce for something like that, then you must not value your marriage or love your wife very much.what if you were addicted to sports or something, maybe drinking and she wanted you to quit, you couldnt.would that be right for her to think like you.
Yes it is that addictive! I have known people that have quit 10 or 15 years ago and they still want a cigarette.

It is like two addictions. One is a mental, a habit if you will, and the other is a physical one that wants the nicotine.

I used an anti-depressant to quit. ( I have only been done with it for a year and half, and I still think about a cigarette. ) It doesn-t work for everyone though. But she might ask her doc for the prescription. Or try hypnosis. She needs to want to quit, you-re telling her to doesn-t mean a thing.

Tell her good luck from me.
Yes, smoking is very addicting. And, putting pressure on her to quit likely makes the problem worse. Smoking is often used to relax someone. Adding pressure means she needs to relax, but her relaxation tool is what is causing the pressure.

You cannot force your wife to quit smoking. If she is going to do it, then she must want to quit.
Your gonna have to bribe her with something very worth while. That-s how I was able to quit.
it is a very hard habit to quit and only your wife can do it
if she is a good wife and mother in all ways give her a break and try to help her when she does try to quit=good luck
My father has been smoking for 40 some years since he was 16 and is now in his late 50-s. He told my mom if she would quit, he would too but, he never did. Its been like 30 years since he said that and our whole family is trying to get him to quit. He always says hes working on it and never even tries. I bought him a book on it and even showed him all the crap thats in them and he was disgusted but it didnt change his mindset. He -enjoys- them is his excuse and I think thats pathetic. He has spent so much money on them over the past 40 sum years its insane and so not worth it. Its just really sad how addictive they are and how someone cant stop themselves from doing it. How can a piece of paper filled with leaves control your life??? I mean besides the nicotine you should be able to stop it if you really want, your mind has to be really set on something if you cant stop.

l have been smoking ever since l was 11 years old and l am 32 now, l want to quit but the craving is just too much for me.
It would help to remove yourself from others who smoke. I don-t know if you live in a house with other smokers. Maybe take up a hobby or otherwise spend time at the PC. I know that it is easier for me not to eat (another habit) when typing with two hands and not sitting on the couch with my hands free.
I just quit and I am 32..I started smoking when I was about 14 or 15..Basically, I quit cold turkey but the way to do cold turkey is to remove yourself from stress until you kick. I moved so I was not working for about a month and did not feel like spending money on cigs. I also did not hang around with smokers..Now I can walk into any store without the urge to buy a pack..However, between you and me if I knew I had a terminal disease and was going to die anyway I would start smoking again in a second.I do not think you ever quit liking it.
Hi. It-s hard I know! I only smoked 2 and a half years and it was difficult! I decided after being in the hospital for uncontrollable high blood pressure that it was either my life or the cigarett! I chose my health! I quit right then and there! Cold turkey! I started eating lots of oranges and apples. Started exercising and I never was tempted to smoke again! Adding green tea and taking vitamin c tablets 1,000 mg will help as well! You can do it!!! :)
chew teeth whitening gum when ever you like to smoke. You continue this for 6 months. then you can quit smoking. simple
You might want to try wellbutrin. That-s what I did - it was downright easy, and I lost 12 pounds without trying, to boot. Good luck!
im 12 and i smoke canbis and weed but i dont like weed
I-m a fan of the nicotine gum, but I know some people it didn-t work for.

When your O2 explodes it might be time to take a smoking cessation class.
As an ice breaker you can talk about the skin grafts on your face where you where you had 3rd degree burns!

Seriously, in this day and age there is no excuse. There are a million smoking cessation classes taught by professionals for free as well as a whole plethra of items from gum, to patches, to implants, that will help you with the nic fits. Not to mention an entire new line of study called Pulmonary Rehab that helps people with COPD live as close to a normal life as possible.
I-d like to hope that being on O2 would be enough of a kick in the pants to change your lifestyle but perhaps not.
Well, I use to smoke and I quit about 5 years ago since I quit! I didn-t like the gum because I could not stand the taste, but I did the patches they are expensive about as much as a carton of cigs. I ended up in the hospital on a respirator because I have COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) that was not fun and all related to my love for cigarettes. Go to your Dr they have a pill now called Chantex that helps you stop smoking and there are all kinds of support groups on the net and in the community. I sure wish you lots of luck with your trying to quit I know how hard it is but it CAN be done!! My best wish-s for you! You can do it!

Stopping smoking is not difficult the hard thing is making
a positive decision and sticking to it. Its not a physical problem as your body should be nicotine free in about three
days then a case of want you really want cigarettes or health
To quit you should purchase punks. There under $10.00. To find out more about these punks visit http://www.stopsmoking4good.org or e-mail the owner at John@stopsmoking4good.org.
Smoking is a powerful addiction. Only you can decide to quit or continue. Good luck.

Problems with the quit smoking patch? -

i used the patch to quit smoking about four months ago. i only used it for two weeks. then i went on my own. off the subject, it helped, and i officially quit smoking. heres the problem. i put the patch on my left arm and i still have the square mark on my arm. its like the patch chemically altered my skin. its been off for 4 months and i can still see, plain as day, where the patch was. why is this. will it go away. what can i do
The patches on the market all warn that the patches may cause irritation to the skin where applied. It is best to put the patch on a fatty area of skin and place it in a different location every time a patch is put on. I would recommend getting the phone number of the box it came in and call the company and ask them what they recommend because you are most likely not the only one with this problem. If the phone number is not on the box call one of these distributors: Amerisourcebergan or McKesson. Another sourse would be the -stop smoking line- at 1-800-no-butts. Congrats on quitting-that is a wonderful accomplishment! In the mean time try moisturizing the area with a lotion such as Eucerin or Lubriderm. Good Luck.

My mom has quit smoking and it-s been about a month since she-s had a cigarette! Yay! I-m very proud of her. The thing is,she can-t sleep at night. She tries and tries but cannot get a full night-s sleep adn doesn-tn fall asleep until about 5 or 6am. And then she has to go to work at 7:30.

Have any of y-all had this experience and is there anythign that helped? Except cigarettes of course...

She-s tried sleeping pills but they make her nauseous, Tylenol PM doens-t work either...

PLEASE HELP!
Thanks!
Time.
It-ll take a few months.
In the meantime she could try Zyban.
I personally do not smoke, but have had friends and relatives quit. If it-s only been a month since quitting, she may be going through nicotine withdrawal. It will last for some time but eventually will go away. I would advise her to see her doctor and see if he can help her, so that she will not go back to smoking again. Best luck to you and your mom, stay strong.
Well I-m 27 and my mom quit when I was 12 and she just had to change everything..... She wakes up at 6 and goes to bed like 1 in the morning.... Its just a LIFE altering Change....
I have really cut down since this new Library has 10 computers and no time limit like the one in town so I can sit here for 4-5
hours and not have a cigarette. I have had times when I could
not sleep because I just couldn-t turn my brain off thinking of the
days ahead and problems. Now I have been sleeping better but
if I smoke too much in the house or have someone over who
smokes the I can hardly breathe. Maybe your Mom isn-t getting
enough oxygen in her system, that was one of my problems.

I do not know the cost of laser therapy, however if you are worried about cancer, just quit cold turkey. I smoked three packs a day and I quit that way. You can do it. And if you love yourself, do it. I am a cancer survivor.

The last time I -quit- smoking I still wanted to murder everyone in my sight after 4 months. I quit smoking again, and it-s been 3 weeks and I am so angry all the time it-s annoying as hell. Will it take years to quit being angry????
So that-s why I-m blowing up at my housemate. I-m down to a couple a day, and I forgot about the quick rages until I read your question. Quiting drinking wasn-t real bad, but I-m still hyper even after walking 3-5 mi a day. I-d walk more if it wasn-t for the gout. Time for me to take some those downers so other people can get some peace around here. Best of luck.
lol i was fine after a month so it sounds as if there is underlying circumstances
Sounds like you have a lot of anger...seek a shrink, you have issues!!
Maybe the quitting has nothing to do with the rage.
you have a choice, to be angry and miserable or be calm and happy as hell that you quit smoking.
Go to www.quitnet.com, and take your anger out on them. They will understand.

Also, which is better gum or patch
Just decide when he wants to quit - when he wakes up that morning don-t have a cigarette - don-t give in to the cravings. If he smokes one that day it will be to hard to not have another. The patch helps some people. I quit a little over a year ago. I had smoked for over 20 years, but I have asthma - after 2 bad asthma attacks in one day, I ended up in the hospital for 2 weeks. Thats when I quit. I used the patch while I was in the hospital, but after I went home I didn-t, it was hard, but not as hard as I thought it would be. I started eating shelled sunflower seeds, pickles, olives, chewing gum, anything that would help me through the cravings. I walked a lot - tried to stay busy, that helped too. After awhile it starts to get easier. The biggest thing is to just don-t give in - even try one cigarette, or one drag off a cigarette, that will make it too hard not to want more. I hope this helps. Good Luck!!!
the pacth but just be strong and quit
Patch!!!! most def
--.Hypnotism was what helped me finally quit. I smoked for about 20 years and did not think I could do it. I just decided to give it a try, not really even wanting to quit but knowing that I needed to, and it worked. I have been a non-smoker for 25 months now! Good Luck!!
Pray and ask God to help him. Also find other things to do.
Instead of having a pack of ciggs in his pocket he could have a small new testement.
Im not a smoker but the best way is cold turkey and have a strong will.also try the gum or the patch at frist.
Cold turkey! If you are using the patch or gum, you are till recieving small amounts of nicotine. It must be cold turkey and lots of encouragement from you.good Luck to your dad.
I am sure your physician can give you a prescription to help curb your cravings for a smoke. There are more than one meds on the market now to help. I would start there first.
Steven King wrote a great short story where you signed a contract. If you cheated and smoked a cigarette they would cut off one of your wife-s finger.
For quiting smoking a person should be mentally prepared for various kind of problems. I-ve tried 7 times! Mainly The thing is -Just Quit- Don-t think about smoking. Gerally addiction stays for 5 minitus. After that time addiction goes away. And the most importent thing is- addiction will be atomaticly decreased after 2 weeks.

I had been a heavy duty smoker for many years. I quit cold turkey and it was rough for the first few days. I wanted to be completely free of nicotine so I didn-t use any crutches. I feel the best way to quit smoking is to have the will and want to quit. Do it because you love yourself.

Ive tried all the patches and stuff none of that works help me get rid of that grab a pack and put a cigarette in my mouth craving
try nicorrete gum or sun flower seeds

or suck on a lollipop
QUIT.....STOP NOW! if the patches and lozenges etc don-t work for you, you-ll have to fight it alone. Cigarettes are known to have 30% more of the addictive ingredients today then back in the 70s...so it-s gonna be tough, but you CAN do it! I see people stop all the time....the first few weeks are horrible....but just get around friends and ask them to help you stay off of them. Otherwise....it-s a long.....slow.....suffocating way to die over a long time....unless you get lung cancer....then it-s about 3 months.
Good luck!
ever tried...HYPNOTISM??

a lot of people says it works
I-m planning on a trip to France next year at this time. I also smoke but after this pack, every time I want to buy smokes, I-m putting the money into a jar and at the end of every month, taking it to the bank to be deposited into a saving account that I can-t access unless I go to the bank.

There has to be something you want to use your money towards instead of smoking. Pick what you want and put your smoking money away.
Try to get more information regarding some ways to stop smoking at my profile.
Substitute smoking for something else . . . like eating celery or doing push-ups - something so horrible you-d rather not smoke. You are going to need someone to enforce this switch.
chew gum when u have a craving
get nicarette you can beat the cigarette hehe or you can call a quit line
Buy a hammer. Put the hammer in a box. Mail the box to yourself. When it arrives, open the box and remove the hammer. Now, use the hammer smack yourself in the (choose one) head, sack, toes, knee, or shin everytime you take a drag.
I use to smoke a lot and whenever I got a craving I chewed a gum or sucked on hard candy and It took the craving away. exercising also helps you take your mind off of it.

It-s been 6 days - when do these cravings go away completely?
And I know for sure it-s a physical craving I can actually feel a little tinge of the craving inside of me.
I-m getting them about twice a day now.
Smoking is more of a psychological addiction than a physical one. If you really want to quit you must discover the reasons why you smoke and then eliminate or change these thought processes.

Once you deal with the psychological side of smoking it makes the physical side much easier to deal with. If you don-t deal with the mental addiction then those physical cravings may never go away.

Good Luck and Good Quitting

Normal withdrawal symptom. The peak is usually at 2-5 days but symptoms usually go on for much longer, diminishing gradually. If you can make it to two weeks, you have a better chance of stopping. Symptoms should become more manageable in a few weeks or months. Figure you-ll feel as normal as you ever will in a year or two, sometimes shorter sometimes longer. After that, you may continue to experience the occasional craving. One caution born of hard experience: you-ll be tempted to have just one to make the cravings go away. Don-t. If you have even one, you-ll end up smoking just as much as you did before you stopped and you-ll lose all the work you put into it.
The cravings get easier.
However, there is a way to stay off them for good.
Remember that everytime you want to put a cigarette in your mouth, you-re inhaling tar, which is clinging to your lungs and might eventually kill you...it-s almost a death wish when you think about it, and yet a lot of people in this world are doing it. It-s really kinda crazy!
Your life is worth more than a few packets of cigarettes!
because at the back of ur head u know that nothing is as nice as a fag when u want one no choclate or any thing......................it sucks!!! iam in the same boat iv a headache i want one so bad!!!! im just drinkin green tea to try and stop it ,its my 2nd time to quit!!! good luck!!
I doubt it-s physical, it-s probably psychosomatic. Nicotine withdrawal is usually gone after three days.

The mental cravings stay for years, but it-ll get better.
Full nicotine withdrawal takes 1 week you can read more about how to control your cravings here http://www.methodstoquitsmoking.net/how-to-control-your-cravings.html
Cigarettee smoking is universally discouraged for various reasons. Even if you get that urge, try to avoid.
yeah that will happen. a girl at my work says her cravings stopped coming as strong after 9 days. its different for everyone. be strong you-ll be saving tons of money.
you-ll never stop craving them completely, because smoking is enjoyable.

I smoke 20 cigarettes a day (Davidoff) classic. i had tried NICOTEX-4 to quit smoking ? -

every cigarette which i smoke has 0.9 mg of nicotine but nicotex-4 contains 4mg of nicotine . should i continue with nicotex-4. kindly advise. what is tar in a cigarette and how is it harmful

nicotine in the nicotex is far better than nicotine in cigarette coz it eventually makes you quit within a few months. if you can get hold of a lighter 2 mg gum, do that or chew half of the nicotex4 at a time.
Try Chantix it really works for patients. The Dr. I work for prescribe this to patients and it really works for them.

Why do smokers go back to smoking after they had successfully quit? -

Why do smokers go back to smoking after they had successfully quit? -

In order to better understand the psyche of the smoker, I would like to hear from people who had successfully quit smoking and then started back. There is a lot that can be learned from your input.

In my experience, there are two main reasons that people go back to smoking

1) They do not appreciate that this is a true addiction and think that they can have -just one- cigarette (this emboldened revelation usually comes after a few drinks).

2) They are -stress smokers- and still believe that their cigarettes calm them down.

What is your experience? Do you agree? Disagree? What can others learn from your mistakes?

Dr Voelker
You can be 20 years without smoking, but you have desire for one and your addiction never went away. Its not stress, it doesn-t come with drinks. maybe our will power disappeared for the moment. Once you start again, the majority of latent smokers cant stop.
Happened to me, that I-m not a great smoker.
Smoking is not just a habit but an addiction. Some say that the addiction to nicotine is stronger than an addiction to some of the -illicit- drugs such as cocaine and heroin. A smoker needs a strong motivation in order to quit smoking. I smoked until I was 35 years old and quit because I caught my son smoking -- he said I was not a good example and if his mother could smoke why couldn-t he -- so I quit and I have never again had a real cigarrette BUT I often have a cigarrette in my dreams -- sometimes I wake up and can feel myself taking that first puff -- the action of smoking is one that the body does not forget and it is an enjoyable thing, even if it is not healthy. I know that if I ever did really have a cigarrette again, I would be hooked. I will even stand and talk with a group of smokers every once in a while because I still like the smell of smoke -- but not stale smoke. I don-t really think there are different types of smokers, once addicted you smoke because you are addicted and part of the addiction is that nicotine is a relaxant and part of it is the habit of lighting the cigarrette and pulling out that first puff. It is a complicated addiction but it can be beat. Once the body has rid itself of the toxins (which takes about a month) the only reason to go back to smoking is the memory of how it made you feel, and we are humans, so some of us are successful and some are not. Everyone has their own reasons for quitting the habit, and ultimately it is the individual choice.

I often feel guilty about the years that I would smoke, because the choice to buy a package of cigarrettes was stronger than buying a quart of milk for my kids! That is what a true addiction is, even though you know what the right and proper choice is, the addiction is so strong that you do things that can cause others to suffer.
It has a lot to do with the human psyche too...I went back to smoking because I-m just a creature of habit, and old habits die hard with me, if at all. It-s just been in your routine for so long...
Dr. Voelker,

I finally quit smoking 5 months ago after many years of trying. In the past I have quit and gone back to it several times. I think the reasons are probably sort of unique for each smoker. For me, I went back for a variety of reasons. Your #1 - #2 are right on track, but really the crux of why I went back every time is because I felt it was a comfort to me. I do not believe I was severely physically addicted as I only smoked about 10 cigarettes a day at most. I just became severely psychologically addicted. It-s so strange to know something is bad for you and know that it makes you feel terrible but to continue to be drawn to it. Addiction is a very strange thing.

I think it-s true what they say that -you really have to be ready- to quit. This was true in my case. I knew I wanted to try getting pregnant and that was the motivation for me because I wanted it out of my system before I conceived. (Sidenote - I-m due 7/5/07!)

I know you didn-t ask this question, but I also wanted to add that I personally do not believe in the stop smoking tools like the gum, lozenge, patch, pill, etc. I find them to only prolong the addiction and to make it seem ok to go back to smoking because of the excuse, well, I-m still addicted... At least I found this to be the case for me. I believe that it is mind over matter. Once a person gets through the first two weeks they start to become broken of the behavior. Perhaps this is only true for those of us with psychological addiction.

Anyway, hope this helps you with your research. Best of luck!
Well, My uncle quit smoking...and then one day my cousin was outside a looked at her dad smoking...well people go back to smoking when they officialy quit it beacuse thay cant take it anymore, they think stress and alchohol can relive everything...but there wrong!, resulting a doc..or physican can help too, by giving them tips to stop.

TIPS:

Top 12 Tips to Help You Quit Smoking Successfully

Be a Sponge

We all know that smoking is bad for us, but if you-re like most smokers, you avoid looking at the destruction smoking causes whenever possible. Take the blinders off and read everything you can get your hands on about smoking. It will help you start to make the mental shift necessary to quit smoking.

Use a Quit Journal

Journaling is a useful tool for anyone trying to quit smoking. Start yours with your list of reasons for quitting. Include everything from big to small, and leave room to add to it. Think about the pros and consof smoking and make your list as detailed as possible.

We have a way of believing what we tell ourselves over and over. Your journal will help you cement your goals. Prompt yourself with present-tense messages like: -I am a nonsmoker- or -I am strong and healthy-, and commit them to paper. Daily affirmations will plant the seeds of change in your mind, and it won-t be long before your actions are following your thoughts.
Find a Shoulder to Lean On

Having others who are interested in your success is very important. The Smoking Cessation Forum here at About.com is a thriving, active group of people who can give you the help and encouragement you need. Sign in as a guest to browse and read posts from other quitters, or register(free) to post messages of your own.

Eat Smart

Smoking cessation throws our bodies into shock initially. If you take care to give your body the fuel it needs to run properly, you-ll find that you-re better able to cope with the discomforts of nicotine withdrawal. Have the right foods within easy reach and you-ll minimize weight gain due to quitting.

Get Your Beauty Sleep

When you-re tired, cravings to smoke will seem stronger while you feel less able to manage them. Fit a full 8 hours of sleep in every night, and a nap here and there if you need it. If you have trouble sleeping when you first quit smoking, try taking a long walk a couple of hours before bed.

Drink Water

Water will help to flush residual toxins out of your system, and beat back cravings to smoke. When you-re well-hydrated, you-ll feel better in general, which is a plus when you-re going through nicotine withdrawal.

Get Moving

If you already have a daily exercise regimen, good for you! If not, start now. Choose something you enjoy doing, and you-ll be more likely to stick with it. Aim for a half hour of exercise every day. Walking is a great way to move and it-s a quick fix for the urge to smoke. Get out for a 15 minute walk around the block and you-ll come back refreshed and relaxed.
Renew Resolve Daily

Your determination to quit smoking is built one day at a time. Every smoke free day makes you stronger, and when you consciously take time to reflect and rejoice in the value of what you-re doing, you-re working to fortify your will to make this the quit that lasts you a lifetime.

Adopt an Attitude of Gratitude!

Think about the blessings in your life. We all have them. Be thankful for the freedom you-re creating for yourself today. Remember that you-ve wanted to quit smoking for a long time and you-re finally doing something about it. List out the benefits you see in your health and overall being due to quitting tobacco. It has been said that gratitude unlocks the fullness of life, and I believe that! Make gratitude a daily conscious part of your life.

Accept and Let It Go

Relax into your quit and embrace cravings to smoke as they come. Don-t fight - lean into urges and ride them out. Most cravings last 3-5 minutes. Think of them as signs that your body is healing - that is just what they are.

Don-t Fall forJunkie Thinking

Quitting tobacco is a gift, not a sacrifice. Don-t sabatoge yourself by feeling sorry that you can-t smoke. You are choosing not to smoke because you want to be free of this killer of an addiction. Keep your perspective!

Be Patient

Just as Rome wasn-t built in a day, people don-t quit smoking in a day either. Most of us had 20 years or more of smoking under our belts before we quit. Give yourself the gift of time and patience. Work to undo old patterns and replace them with newer, healthier choices. Each day you complete smoke free brings you closer to lasting freedom.

HOPE IT WORKED! :-)
I don-t know how many of these people who answered are smokers, I feel sure one wasn-t because she doesn-t know what she-s talking about. As a 40-year smoker who quit for health reasons, a nicotine addiction is harder to stop than hard drugs. There are no reasons to smoke, there are all kinds of excuses, the same excuses alcoholics have. It is a physical and psychological addition, and unless you admit you have an addiction, you aren-t going to be able to quit.

I have quit before, but this time I-ll make it because I now have emphysema and don-t intend to ever smoke again, nor will I allow smoking in my house. Second-hand smoke is as bad for me as smoking a cigarette. I knew all the risks and I smoked anyway. Why? I didn-t think it would happen to me.

I quit once for 5 years. Why did I smoke that first cigarette after being off them so long? Because I thought I could -smoke just one.- I could go on and on, but I think you can get it from here.

I am now taking the drug Chantix. It has some unpleasant side-effects, but not as bad as smoking. Once I-m through the 30-day course, I won-t get any more and I won-t smoke.
A few years ago I had hip surgery done and while in the hospital I contacted a virus and all toll I was in the hospital for 30 days. I had no cigs during that time and didn-t even miss them.
When on the way home in the Patient transportation van, a piece of equipment was not tied down and when he turned fast, it came loose and hit my leg that had been operated on and I got scared and reached for my cigs which were home. I am now trying again to quit. It-s really hard to do.
