How to quit smoking? -

I tried all the methods, but still no use. They say its all about the mindset.
I tried like 10 times to quit smoking. Longest period was maybe a week! All the time i was thinking about smoke. I fail and fail again. No apothecary did not help me and i was not mentally to strong to quit!
And one day i met my old classmate who was smoker to and he give that web site what helped him.Now he has not smoking many years and i about 4 months and think i ever will.
Hopefully it helps u to!!
http://tinyurl.com/4ogumc
it is definitely about the mindset.

if you want to quit, think of a reason why. then write them, one by one, on notecards. everyday, put a new notecard in your pocket (and the rest by your alarm clock). when you get the urge to smoke, pull it out and look at it. then think long and hard about the reason on the card vs. what the cigarette is going to do to you. you can do it.
I know for a fact that it is a mindset. I am in the process of quiting as we speak and I use chewing gum. DOUBLEMINT! It is the best right now. I tell myself when I begin to crave that I don-t need it and this is killing me. These cigarettes are not good for me and too much money to maintain. Inner encouragement until the craving passes and then if I am at home I brush my teeth. There are many ways to overcome it you have to find your own strength and go for it.
Yes its all about the mindset. Change starts from within and not from outside factors. You can check some of the good mindsets on how to quit smoking from the link below.

I quit smoking 3 wks ago amp; now im gaining weight, what should I do to get fit again? -

I need motivation. Maybe a new swim suit or some Diet pills to get me going, what should I do???
First of all, congratulations! I have recently quit smoking too, and am so proud of myself I haven-t stepped on a scale! It is wonderful that you want to take care of your body in so many ways. It is very difficult to quit smoking, and I am so happy that you were able to accomplish such a task. What I reccomend for you is just a healthy, regular diet, and an exercise plan that fits you. Take a walk every day, and breathe in that fresh air, I bet you can smell better now!!! I love pilates, it is amazing for toning your muscles. Just replace fatty foods with fruits and vegetables. Don-t drink your calories! Stay away from any sweetened beverages, such as pop and juice. I like yogurt, baby carrots, grapes, etc. because they are so portable. Do what makes you feel good. And congratulations again. Good luck with all that you do.
Okay, the bulemia guy is totally wrong. What you need to do is find a healthy diet plan that works for you- maybe including bananas for potassium and something with insulin to counter the sugars.
as ugly as this may sound, take a picture of yourself that shows you why you want to lose weight. decide how much you want to lose by when and reward yourself when you reach your goal.
Smoking actually curbs your appetite so when you quit smoking you will put on some weight..Just exercises and eat right..Good Luck
try some green tea diet pills, they really work.don-t panic, sometimes when we Start to panic about the weight gain it only causes more weight gain.walking is good.yoga is a real good work out.
jog
you should drink lots of water and stop snacking i know thats what i did when i first quit. keeping busy helps keep your mind off smoking. try going for walks. good luck
you should probaly go to the gym or run alot to get back to your shape.
exercise! eat right...fill up all the lost nicatine with low fat/sugar gum instead of food.
joining a gym can be helpful
doing some cardio can help significantly
Two words: stop eating.

Go for some anorexia or bulemia...those-ll work wonders for your figure.
walk, then walk, then walk some more that is what i did , have to walk a little farther each day.
Exercise. It-s normal to gain weight after quiting smoking.
Definitely get a membership at a gym. I-ve lost 17 pounds since New Year-s, and I-ve put on muscle as well. Do a balance of some weights and some cardio. Also, eat a healthy and balanced diet. You don-t need to eat all perfect foods all the time, but think about what you-re eating. Grab an apple instead of a candy bar. You-ll look and feel great. And you won-t smell like a cigarette.
I wouldn-t go to the extreme with Diet Pills unless you do a lot of research on the particular product your considering and talk with your Dr. as well about it. I would suggest however to start out walking, just regular walking in your neighborhood or at your local mall. Then work up to Power Walking, joging, running, some kind of fun sport or even Swimming ( since you mention getting a new suit to motivate you to loose the weight. ) Eating right is well duh *laugh*, try some of the cereal chalanges out there, Like GrapeNuts or Special K, something like that. If you like Yogurt, that too would be good. Either the drinks they have made with Yogurt or well good ol- Yogurt itself.

I am currently on a Diet that I found online, It-s Herbalife. For someone like me where normal diets don-t work and I need to loose more than 20 or 30 lbs it-s been working well. Not to mention where the shake mix that comes with this diet goes it-s actually quite good. Has a bit of a Floral taste but not something that-s gag me type taste. That and they offer recipes to use if you want to enhance the taste/flavor or if you want to add some cool stuff to it to make it more of a Frapachino styled shake. Anyway it-s actually quite good in my opinion.

Well hope these ideas and any others help you. Good luck and Gratz on quiting smoking!! Takes a STRONG person to stop smoking.
your metabolism changed but it-s worth it. Whatever you do DO NOT start smoking again.
you should try eating 6 small meals throughout the day instead of 3 big ones, because the reason you-re gaining weight is your metabolism has slowed down from quitting, but more frequent small meals will help speed it up
you need something else to get addicted to. seriously, start playing golf or something. it will allow you to be active and get your mind off food
relax, 6 meals a day, tons of water, no high fructose corn syrup.
walking is best
There are many cures to loosing weight but what I suggest is exercise! Usually anything that gets you moving. Also drink LOTS AND LOTS of WATER! If you don-t drink water than you can faint. Oh...and also many times going on diets with eating non sugar products with Splenda can give you cancer. you can also go on a fast with a gallon of Distilled water put 2 fresh lemons and 1 quarter teaspoon of Kian pepper and do this for about 2 weeks. you might get sick as the toxins release in your body but you will start to feel better. If you cant fast eat grains you can start loosing weight. I also suggest you go see a doctor too. Glad you stopped smoking. smoking makes you gain alot of weight. Best Wishes!
Start exercising daily! Nothing comes easy, you have to sweat some to get results.
be active. youre craving for nicotine has been replaced by a craving for food probably. stay away from sweets they tend to replace the nicotine in your system. limit your food portions andd try a new sport or yoga or pilates or belly dancing.:)
bye jeans that are the size you want to fit in and every time you think you should excersize and you dont have any motivation then go look at your jeans.
Give yourself a challenge that isn-t about work or school, and do it work on it whenever you want to eat or smoke or do something obsessive. Also, run track or find a hobby.

A good way to quit smoking is the one that works for you.

For some people, that-s cold turkey. For others ,it-s the patch or lozenges or gum, others it-s Chantix.

Check out Quit Assist,
http://www.philipmorrisusa.com/en/quitas…
and Nicotine Busters,
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Nic…
Both have a wealth of information on different ways to quit smoking, smoking cessation aids, support, etc.

Good luck to you.
put out he fire
quit cold turkey or join quit program
A good way is to chew gum instead. Remember if you smoke you can get diseases. Like tongue disease where your tongue turns completely black. That if that happens they have to removoe your tongue which will be difficult to eat. Also you will end up damaging you vocal chords, and if that does happen you might have to get a hole put in your throat for oxygen. Also there are about 480+ poisons in a cigarette, and cigars are worse for you by 10%
Get a script for Chantix from your Dr. It works!
Don-t start.
Keep your mind busy, chew gum keep entertained
I also found a great book called -the easy way- really good book about smoking and welll its the easy way to quit smoking
Good luck with that
I-d say it all depends on how much you smoke and how long you-ve been smoking and why you are deciding to quit (health problems, your family, yourself, etc). I-m 22 and I quit almost 4 months ago. I-d been smoking for about 5-6 years, I don-t even remember when I started. My motivation was the cold that I came down with. The smokes didn-t do it for me so I didn-t smoke them. After that, I told myself that if I didn-t give quitting a decent shot, I-d be mad at myself afterwords. I haven-t had one since. It sounds easy but it wasn-t for the first month. But i-ve also heard success stories with the patch and this new pill that came out recently...GOOD LUCK!
Because you are addicted to smoking, you can-t just go cold turkey. I would recommend cleansing yourself. The master cleanse is a good one,[also known as the lemonade diet.] Basically you just drink this lemonade mixture for a min. of 10 days and it clears you out. All your addictions, food, drugs, alcohol, anything you name it, all washed out in your wastes. I have done this cleanse twice and I am currently on it right now. The first time I did it, I went from vegetarian to raw vegan [[only uncooked food - no animal products]] The best part was, you completely lose all unhealthy cravings because its not in your system anymore. If you have been a smoker for along time, you might have to do the cleanse more then once because of how much build up there might be. For more information you should go to there website. Good luck and I hope it works out for you!

What is the most helpful tip wou can give me to quit smoking even after using Nicoderm? -

Quitting smoking is extremely difficult. The withdrawl makes us not want to, but we know the risks and we know that they are not worth it. For anyone who wants to end their nicotine addiction, check out www.stopsmokingcleveland.com. This is the MOST effective method on the market. It is 86% effective and the details of the program are on the website (no signing up or submitting your information).

I tried this program and it changed my life.
watch those disgusting videos on what smoking does to you.
I-ll tell you how I quit after 25 years of cigarettes. They say you are not supposed to do it this way, but it worked for me. First went from marlboro to marlboro medium, then to marlboro light, then marlboro ultra lite, then to Carlton. I kept track of every time I had a cigarette and would ask myself why -- like if other people at work would want to go out to smoke - ask me to join them, I-d say to myself -do I really want this cigarette?- The most difficult was not lighting up in the car. I got down to 1 cigarette a day -- in the car on the way home from work. I had to wean myself but it worked.. now I can-t stand to look at a dirty ashtray, or smell smoke on somebody else. Another tip --- put yourself in places where no smoking is allowed. Good Luck.
i tried nicoderm and it made me sick so i threw it away and tried cold turkey and i almost went crazy so i started smoking again. sorry but it-s very hard. you have to go through at least 2 weeks of hell.
This method works for me and is the only money back guaranteed.
I quite smoking 2 years ago

Get the Facts
Easyway, founded by Allen Carr in 1983, has the highest independently verified 12-month success rate (75.8% for a smoker completing the program) of any quit smoking technique and a 90% satisfaction rating.

Compare Easyway to other methods and see for yourself why Easyway is called “The Cadillac of quit smoking methods.”

The Allen Carr Method
HOW THE METHOD WORKS

Using psychotherapy, the method works in the opposite way to the “willpower” method. It does not concentrate on the reasons the smoker should not smoke : the money, the slavery, the health risks and the stigma. Smokers know all that already. Instead it focuses on why smokers continue to smoke in spite of the obvious disadvantages.

It is fear that keeps smokers hooked!

Fear the smoker will have to give up their pleasure or crutch. Fear the smoker will be unable to enjoy life or handle stress. Fear the smoker will have to go through an awful trauma to get free. Fear the smoker will never get completely free from the craving.

The Method removes these fears
Smokers quit with the Allen Carr Method as happy non-smokers, not feeling deprived but with a huge sense of relief and elation that they have finally achieved what they always wanted….

TO BE FREE!

What about the terrible withdrawal pangs from nicotine?

The physical withdrawal from nicotine is so slight that most smokers don’t realise that they are addicts. What smokers suffer when they try and quit using other methods is the misery and depression caused by the belief that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch.

The Allen Carr Method removes this feeling of deprivation.
It removes the need and desire to smoke. Once the smoker is in the right frame of mind and they follow the simple instructions, the physical withdrawal from nicotine is hardly noticeable.

No Gimmicks!

The Method does not use any gimmicks, useless aids or substitutes. No nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, tabs, inhilators or nasal sprays! No needles! No lasers! No drugs! No herbs! No shock treatment!

The Allen Carr Method is successful because:

It removes the smokers’ conflict of will.
There are no bad withdrawal pangs.
It is instantaneous and easy.
It is equally effective for long-term heavy smokers and light smokers.
You need not gain weight.
You will not miss smoking.

Medical Endorsements

A personal view from Professor Judith Mackay MBE, JP, FRCO (Edin), FRCP (Lon), World Health Organisation Advisory Panel on Tobacco and Health

“I have no hesitation in supporting Allen Carr’s work. Many clinics use some of his techniques but it would appear that few do it in quite such a successful package.”

Carole Johnson, Coronary Heart Disease Prevention Unit, Tyne Tees

“his success rate was such that, when budgets allow, we continue to use Easyway for work with specific groups and individuals.”

Dr Anil Visa BSc, MBBch., FRCA, Consultant – Royal Hospitals NHS Trust – Royal London Hospital

“I have observed the Allen Carr method at first hand and have found it to be very successful and I wholeheartedly support it as an effective way to quit smoking.”

Dr William Green, Head of Psychiatric Dept, Matilda Hospital, Hong Kong

“It is a remarkable fact that Allen Carr, on his own admission a non-professional in behaviour modification, should have succeeded where countless psychologists and psychiatrists holding postgraduate qualifications have failed, in formulating a simple and effective way to stop smoking.”

Dr Martin Jarvis, Principle Scientist, Imperial Cancer Research
Fund and Reader in Health Psychology, University College London

”...I am more than happy to testify to Allen Carr’s enduring involvement and to recognise the value of the kind of behavioural and cognitive support he provides.”

Dr PM Bray MB CH.b., MRCGP

“I was really impressed by the method. In spite of the Allen Carr organisation’s success and fame, there were no gimmicks and the professional approach was something a GP could readily respect. I would be happy to give a medical endorsement of the method to anyone.”

Celebrity Endorsements

-His method is absolutely unique, removing the dependence on cigarettes, while you are actually smoking. I’m pleased to say it has worked for many of my friends and staff.”
Sir Richard Branson

“Some friends of mine who had stopped using Allen Carr’s method suggested I tried it. I did. It was such a revelation that instantly I was freed from my addiction. Like those friends of mine, I found it not only easy but unbelievably enjoyable to stay stopped.”
Sir Anthony Hopkins

GOOD LUCK!
Buy a brand new car that you won-t want to stink up (motivation), go to the doctor for a prescription to quit (chemical fix) and take up a new habit like origami (that-s a bad example, but something to do with your hands)
Eat fruit instead of twinkies. Hang in there, it can be done.
just take all of your cigares and give them to a friend till u think u can quit

How did you quit smoking cigarettes? -

In the past i have tried the patch, gum and lozenges and always went back, I never believed the doctor when he said cold turkey is the best way, i thought he was nuts lol. But now i am going cold turkey and its been over 24 hours without a cig. I feel like i am different in a good way.
Actually the cravings to smoke will come in waves, so be ready especially in the next 48 hours. Beware of the triggers to smoking as well, anybody or anyplace or any activity that you associate with smoking. Drink lots of liquids as to better flush your system. You have to be darned good and determined. Beware also months from now you may have an over powering urge to smoke (like you haven-t already). The urges you will be having over the next few days and future urges each only last something like 3-5 minutes. Take each of those 3-5 minutes one at a time. What you are attempting to do is a solitary thing you are doing for yourself.
Do not let anyone mess with it.
I pretty much went cold turkey. My theory is that you have to have cigarettes to quit. Kind of like a control thing. If you don-t have them you are going to want them and crave them. If they are there then you are controling your temptation for them, not just not smoking because you don-t have them. I also didn-t go out or drink a lot for a couple of months too. That seems to be the breaking point for most people. A cigarette goes great with an adult beverage.

Just think about some of your past relationships. I equate it to breaking up with someone and then later on down the road remembering all of the good times. Then, when you do get back together you immediately remember why you broke up with them in the first place.

Good luck and stay strong.
I-ve quit many times, but I think this will be the last time...hopefully. I used Chantix and it helped. I used it for a little more than a month and then got freaked out by all the horror stories about it so quit. It-s so hard even still (been 10 months), but I now know that I can-t even have a drag or I-ll start again. Now if I could just lose this 30lbs that I gained from quitting!! (By the way, don-t replace cigarettes w/food-it-s even harder to lose weight after you quit!!) Good Luck!
i think u have to do Something else At The time of Smoking
That is the Better way to Quit ur Smoke habitue
Or Doing Some Maditation(YOGA)(www.babaramdev.com)
And force ur mind to Stop Smoking
U can do it
Don-t Worry
Ur Friend Indian
I smoked a lot of weed. Then I quit that too. It worked, I must say. When you can-t speak straight the last thing you want is a cigarette.
i quit via pure willpower (years ago), and my husband is taking chantix currently to give up the habit

People who have quit smoking? -

I quit about 8 days ago, I-m fine with cravings and things like that but I have had this annoying cough for around 8 days....it-s SO frustrating! I coughed up all the -junk- already but I can-t seem to get rid of this cough, for Christ sake I cough worse NOW then when I used to smoke lol..

Does anyone have any idea when this may stop?
i gave up 9 weeks ago and had same little cough for about 2 weeks i dont no what it was maybe its the body getting used of no nicotine, mine is gone now and i feel great, if its not gone in a week maybe you should visit the doctor to get it checked,
ans way to go you on being smoke free :)
Firstly well done for quitting! I believe that what is happening is that the loose phlegm has come out pretty quickly and easily and now your struggling to get the thicker phlegm from deeper in your lungs out. You may get small amounts of really thick phlegm coming out after what seems like an eternity of coughing. The coughing is a symptom of your lungs trying to clear themselves. Sometimes you may need to pat your chest to help it come up. If you start spitting blood then it-s a sign that your chest is getting aggravated and you should see a doctor. I-m also a strong believer of natural therapies and you may find relief from a Chinese Medical Practitioner who can use herbs and heat therapies to move the phlegm up and out.
I gave up last October after a bout of pneumonia
( I have emphysema) all went good seeing I was a smoker for over 40 years.
Now April I-m getting cravings bad.
I never did get a cough when I stopped My specialist didn-t think that was a issue I had a Spiro type test in Jan and it came back as slightly improved even though I was smoking 2 at night only 1mg ones
You are just lucky you quit! In time it wouldn-t have been coughing up stuff, it would have been blood. Give it time, it didn-t start in 8 days and it won-t stop in that amount of time, but it will. You will feel so much better and also smell better. I smoked for 53 years, so I know.....Grammy
Others have told me you will continue to cough for a while after you quit smoking - when the lungs have cleared themselves the cough just goes away completely.
It will pass on it-s own. In the mean time, I recommend sucking on cough drops and taking some mucinex to get the rest of the gunk out.

I quit smoking almost a week ago, but i always feel like I need a cigarette. I get a headache all day long.? -

the reason i am quitting is not because of health problems or anything like that. The only reason I am quitting is because my wife wants me to and she is always worried about me. I don-t want to turn her down, but not smoking is killing me.

http://www.cardiologychannel.com/smoking…

?Make a plan. Preparing to quit is an important first step. There-s no one right way to stop smoking, but smokers who lay the groundwork are much more likely to succeed. Make a list of the people, places, and pastimes associated with your smoking - anything that -triggers- your behavior. One of the hardest things about being a regular smoker and then giving it up is that you-ll always know how good that after-dinner smoke tastes. Come up with a plan for coping with each of those triggers. For example, after a meal you may want to get up and take a walk -- or brush your teeth. If a cigarette automatically appears in your mouth when you leave work at the end of the day, substitute a lollipop or a toothpick (the oral fixation fostered by smoking is one of its more insidious aspects). If a glass of wine makes you reach for a cigarette, you may want to avoid alcohol for the first week or so.
?Set a quit date. Pick a date that-s realistic and allows you to develop your plan. Try to select a time period when you don-t anticipate being under much stress yet will be too busy to sit around thinking about smoking. It may also help to start at a time when you-ll have a little extra impetus. For example, if you-re going to visit people around whom you can-t smoke (your grandparents or your in-laws, perhaps), vow to remain smoke-free after the trip is over. You-ll have a few days under your belt already.
?Tell your friends and family about your plan. Having their support and knowing they-re counting on you can increase your motivation to stick with it.
?If involving others doesn-t suit you, become a -quiet quitter.- For some people, kicking the habit without all the fanfare and questions from concerned supporters is easier in the long run. Knowing that everyone-s -counting on you- might stress you to the point of failure instead of bolstering your resolve. Which approach will work best depends on your personality.
?Take it day-by-day -- or even trigger-by-trigger. This may sound like -addiction-speak,- but it works. To approach the process by thinking, -I can-t wait until I-ve been nicotine-free for a week- won-t help you with that craving you get with your morning coffee on the very first day.
Ouch,

going cold turkey like that isn-t as easy as some people make out. Have you thought about getting nicotine patches or gum?

They really worked for a friend of mine.

I admire your decision btw

good luck!
hey sweetheart :) 1st of all congrats :) its a hard thing to do :) i quit last may ( wooo almost 9 months for me and i smoked for over 15 yrs ) i popped alot of tylenol for the headaches and ate alot of hard candy lol popsicles too , they actually helped alot :) it also helped me to have something to strive for , mine was more money :) i just kept telling my self that once i didnt have to buy smokes anymore id have a ton more money :) and honestly i prayed when it was really tough and napped if i had to . anything to make the cravings and all easier :) i hope you get through this :) youll love not smoking and not having to worry about buying them or going outside to smoke etc :) gods speed hun :) blessings be !!
Drink loads of water and the headache will go away. Smoking is killing you not the absence of smoking. My husband and I gave up smoking 20 years ago and I would still love a cigarette but have not given in. We found that gallons of water and vitamin pills helped us in the battle. Good luck and good health. If you put away the amount you would spend on cigarettes each day in a year you can have a good holiday.
Once, when I was younger, I smoked for fun, and one day I inhaled so strongly that I nearly vomited. Afterward, I hated smoking and feel suffocated even when somebody else smoke. Do the same and let smoking turn into a detestable habit.
It is really really hard....don-t give up! Short term pain for long term gain! Just remember... one cigarette and you will be right back to square one. It is like the alcoholic with one drink. Your brain will be trying to think of a good reason to have just one cigarette and then you will be right back into it! You can never have one cigarette for ANY reason! The fact that you are having all the withdrawal signs/symptoms shows how big of a problem it is. It takes about 2 weeks...HANG IN THERE! You will be rewarded many many times over.
don-t give in to the junkie....its normal withdrawal symptoms...what does that tell you about cigerettes?
do you want your body dependant on something so unhealthy and expensive?
you can do it!!!!!
My boyfried quit a little over a month ago and he still has cravings, but when he does he chews a piece of gum or candy or something. and if he doesn-t have any of that then he just does something to keep hiself busy.
right listen ...YOU DONT NEED A CIGARETTE ok your not gunna die if you dont are ya. if you dont smoke then you are sensible and you wont stink of smoke, u wont get as many colds, u wont get problems in later life. i mean do u really want all these problems? u might even get cancer
The headache may be due to tension which you use to relieve by smoking. Take an Aleve or Tylenol and find other ways to reduce stess.
go get some hypnotherapy and all symptoms will fall away...

and lets address you -quitting for your wife- if you are not an idiot, and i will assume for the moment that you are not an idiot, then you are STOPPING smoking for YOU. since if you dont have health issues YET, you will, or you are in utter denial.

so start here:
what is your diet like (look up WHOLE FOODS DIET online)?
what exercise are you getting DAILY for 15-60 minutes (like gentle walking?)
what relaxation techniques are you practicing twice daily for 20 minutes each session.

you attend to these 3 things - the 3 legged stool - and your symptoms will fall away.

there are NO magic pills. and what doctors say is NOT the final word DOCTORS ARE NOT GODS

http://www.askwaltstollmd.com

http://www.hypnotherapy-psychotherapy.co…

hang in there. believe me you will be glad you quit and sorry if you dont--been there-done that.

How do I quit smoking? -

I-m 15 years old and I have been smoking for a few months. And I really want to stop but it-s really hard and also when I was smoking my brother but marijuana in them. So I was addicted to them. I need some help!!!!
I-ve been a smoker for 20 years - I-ve been off it for 1 week.

The answer was Champix / Chantix

Give up now...it-s a heap easier than when you-ve been at it a couple of decades

The addictive component is nicotine. Marijuana certainly doesn-t have the same addictive qualities as nicotine.

People hooked on pot are generally hooked on the tobacco they mix with it, rather than the weed itself...
1st thing: please DO quit.

It-s hard, so I didn-t ask for help, like you. I just killed myself for 20+ years.

Tried probably 10 times before I succeeded. A lot of people need more than 1 try to kick the habit, so don-t give up. it gets easier each time.

The ONLY thing that worked was the patches. Tried gum. Tried prescriptions. Tried hypnosis. Tried over the counter pills.

Follow the directions: start on a high dose (I didn-t feel any urges: there was plenty of nicotine in the high dose patch). Stay on it as directed (most people I know hate the co$t, so the try to cheat and do it in a shorter amount of time... and fail...). After you-re no longer psychologically addicted and the -habit- part is broken. Then you cut down slowly in nicotine dosage with different patches and work on the physical addiction.

By splitting up the painful process, it makes it much more tolerable.

Good luck to you!

Chaz
Just do not wait for the packet to get finished.Just toss it off and say good bye.May be you can keep some cloves with you to give you some burning sensation to your tongue.Very difficult a task. But with you age you have strong determination and it will not be that difficult as it was for me to quit after ten years. It is a habit. If you van do it you will see the change in you.you will be more confident of yourself, you are still growing and your growth will be better ----------
first of all
throw every single one of your smokes out!
and when you throw them into the bin
say to yourself -i will never smoke again-

secondly, when you feel like a smoke
slap your face? lol i don-t really know
you have to do something each time you wanna smoke
like eat chili or something you hate!

thirdly you could try a nicotine patch
or something like that
get it from your chemist/pharmacy

also, if you quit now, it will be alot easier for you
and you will put on many years of your life
instead of taking them off
I have used this program as so has many others.
Take Chantix, it-s amazing!
think bout those cancer sticks clogging ur lungs with tar

Have you ever tried to quit smoking? What works? -

Are you a success story or have you failed miserably?
Don-t smoke. Successful people use a variety of methods, but just refuse to ever light up again. Good luck.
it-s true, just stopping cold and finding the willpower to not do it is the most effective way. NEJM published a study a few months back on smoking cessation, while it had many more frequent relapses during the time they were trying to quit, people who stopped cold turkey were FAR more successful over a 10 year period than people who used gums, patches, other little tricks
Yes. Quitting cold turkey is best. Plus the support of a loving wife.
Getting admitted to the hospital with a diagnosis of terminal lung cancer seems to do the trick.
Failed miserably, several times. Hope you have more success.
I can-t remember who said it, but one of my favorite quotes is about smoking. -Quitting-s easy - I-ve done it a thousand times-.

Quitting permenantly is another story. I am a smoker. I don-t want to quit, but wish I wanted to quit. This is what I am doing in the mean time...
I don-t have the ultimate desire to quit, but want to be healthier so I-ve done a few things to help a bit.

1. I excercise more. Some studies say that those who smoke and excercise regularly are healthier than those who don-t smoke or excercise at all.
2. I take breaks from smoking. I know smoking is effecting my health when I become really tired for 3 or more days for no reason, my sinuses/allergies are acting up more than usual or I have a lot of trouble sleeping. I then take about three days off from smoking and feel better.
3. I drink a lot of water. This curves appetite as well as cigarrette cravings.
4. Keep busy as much as possible. When the mind is off of cigarrettes, the desire is gone. I don-t know about you, but the no smoking adds on television and on billboards everywhere are the worst things for me. They just remind me of the fact that I smoke and trigger the need.

Not sure if this is anywhere near Dr. recommended, but it may help a bit until you are completely ready and determined to quit - if that-s where you are at this time
Yes I did quit successfully.
What did it for me was when I was hiking in a beautiful area up a hill and I was coughing out every cigarette I had smoked the day before. It was awful. I could barely breath although I was pretty young and otherwise in a good shape. But my lungs were really in a bad condition and were fighting with every breath while I continued to hike up the hill.
I realized how damaging smoking was in this moment. And it was this moment which I will never forget where I gave myself an oath to never ever smoke a cigarette again.

This worked.

Quit to zero. And due to this experience after this just the thought of smoking a cigarette was like a nightmare.

Kinda strange and a way of self hypnosis or so. Not sure what happened to my mind up this hill that day.

Good luck!
I fell pregnant and went cold turkey... Before that I had tried EVERYTHING! Really from experience cold turkey is the way to go! Good luck and be strong!
well dude...!!! i am a living proof of success...here-s what i did. me a heavy smoker..it aint easy tryin- to quit as need moral support and also a lot of will power too and also i had done some counsellin- which came in handy..i know at first that this wood be a tough time to adjust and try to stop smokin- but this couldnt be done in a day, besides its impossible to stop all at once and needs to be done slowly and gradually step by step. try reducin- the number of cigars per month, then per 2 weeks, then per week, then finally per day, nicotine patch shouldn-t hurt and try doin- other useful and interestin- things whenever the urge to smoke comes. give yerself a pat or treat in a good and useful manner for not smokin-..i certainly know that its very difficult at first and second times, but eventually it takes a lotta time, practise and most important patience...believe me it eventually will succeed and take it from someone who had gone thru the experience and came out finally for quit smokin-...just dont give up hope and find ways to help out as its better to be safe than sorry...thats my story and suggestion/advice...and it worked for me, why not for you....lots of luck, dude!!!
Anything other than cold turkey is a myth.

I know someking is not cool and its harmfull for health, but how do i Quit it, how to quit Smoking.
put a rubber band on you wrist - hit it everytime you think about ciggerates. or another way would be to read the back of the label...or just go see a cancer patient - imagine what it would be like to be in their place.
Find some other activities to do to keep you busy so that you will not think of smoking when you feel like you want to have one.

Maybe you can substitute that craving with some other things you can do. Good luck. It takes a few weeks to change a bad habit.

Im trying to quit smoking but Im feeling I need a smoke really bad right now....? -

I don-t have any and I was going to buy some earlier but I decided not to because I-m really serious about quitting this time around. I feel like I really need one right now....like seriously really feel it. When the morning comes and the coffee comes, how do I control myself. What do I do to take my mind off needing to light up????
Here are a few tips, hope they help.

- Keep Busy

Go to a movie.
Exercise.
Take long walks.
Go bike riding.

Spend as much free time as you can where smoking isn-t allowed. Some good places are malls, libraries, museums, theaters, department stores, and places of worship.

Do you miss having a cigarette in your hand? Hold something else. Try a pencil, a paper clip, a marble, or a water bottle.

Do you miss having something in your mouth? Try toothpicks, cinnamon sticks, lollipops, hard candy, sugarfree gum, or carrot sticks.

Drink a lot of water and fruit juice. Avoid drinks like wine and beer. They can trigger you to smoke.

- Stay Away from What Tempts You
Instead of smoking after meals, get up from the table. Brush your teeth or go for a walk.

If you always smoke while driving, try something new: Listen to a new radio station or your favorite music. Take a different route. Or take the train or bus for a while, if you can.

Stay away from things that you connect with smoking. Do it today and for the next few weeks. These may include:
Watching your favorite TV show
Sitting in your favorite chair
Having a drink before dinner

Do things and go places where smoking is not allowed. Keep this up until you-re sure that you can stay smoke-free.

Remember, most people don-t smoke. Try to be near nonsmokers if you must be somewhere you-ll be tempted to smoke, for example at a party or in a bar.

And of course, get as much support as you can.

Good luck with it.
Distract yourself with other things! Focus on the positives...Your life and health will glow once you kick the nasty habit of smoking. Write yourself a letter detailing all the reasons you should quit, keep it somewhere close to you, and whenever you feel the compelling urge to light up, take the letter out and read it intently...Remind yourself of the positives! You can do it, try to make it 3 days without smoking and see how you go. Just keep focused, plan things with friends, occupy your mind with other things you have to do in your life and ignore the urge to smoke....You can do it, trust me!
Think about what a pain in the butt smoking is. Do you really wanna always have to go out and buy smokes just to come home feeling like a failure and stinking...only to one day have to feel this way again cuz you can-t smoke forever (unless u want cancer). You-ve already gotten through the day which is HUGE, keep going because you want to do the right thing.

When I quit I cut down on the triggers (coffee - drinking alcohol being some of them), I-d drink chocolate milk which was comforting). Go for a walk in the AM to get rid of that tension, curse the whole time if you want. Do everything/ANYTHING you can think of that relieves stress, the smokes just stress you out so you can feel like you actually relaxed when you had a cigg. A warm bath, a hobby that occupies your hands, chew gum, work out, scream, listen to some comforting music, call a friend...anything but a stinking cash grubbing life wrecking smoke.

I used the nicorette gum and it helped, just as long as you follow the directions. It helped me not to gain weight (I lost a few actually) since I was chewing and couldn-t eat around the time I had the gum.
Your supposed to stay away from coffee (and other stimulants) when your quitting. Are you using the patch or anything to help with nicotine cravings? Just keep at it. If you-re seriously desperate... go run or do anything physical that will distract you and tire you out. Keep yourself busy as best you can. It isn-t easy but it will get easier and easier. Good luck.
do something that interests you. that will keep your mind off smoking. drink some water. chew some gum. have some candy. watch tv. basically anything that will keep your mind off smoking. also, throw out all your cigarettes and lighters!! spray air refreshener to freshen up your house/room. it-ll make you feel refreshed. go outside and get some fresh air. think about the healthy stuff. not the bad smoking stuff. believe and you can do it!
If you are really serious... Nicorette gum may help you. It will decrease the urge...but only if you are serious. I found walking released the desire...I started making blankets and found when my hands were busy, I was less likely to substitute food while sitting idle. Good luck to you! You are smart and will thank yourself. It took me approx. 4 weeks to feel as though I was -sane- and didn-t have that -I have to have one- psycho-type of behavior when I quit smoking.
Well what-s your motivation for quitting... think of that.

To feel better.
To live longer.
To save money.
To refuse to let a substance control you.

It takes a lot of will power to break an addiction, keep telling yourself that you are strong and you can do it.

Sometimes you just gotta take a week off from work and clean the whole house and read books and watch movies and suck on candy and stuff. Stay away from stores and people who smoke.
omg! im going through the same thing right now, and when i get the craving i try chewing gum...i have like 2 packs in my purse right now, and theyre going fast...the gum keeps my mouth and mind busy for a few minutes cuz i just start chewing away and try to think of something else and change my mind...or i-ll do that and drink diet red bull, or diet coke or diet mountain dew...i dont wanna pack on the calories, cuz alot of people gain weight after quitting anyway...i actually need some more ideas for help too
Sing dance laugh try everything.....Don-t give in you need to be the winner of the don-t smoke game not the cigarette. Read a book maybe you-ll fall asleep.....Good luck Remember you CAN do it!!! You-ll feel better once you-ve quit for good and you-ll smell better.....:)
The first few days are the hardest. Try to do something else when the urge to smoke overwhelms you. Chew gum, or have a piece of fruit. Try reading some motivational materials. Mostly, though, just exercise self control and think about something else. You-re doing the right thing in quitting. Good luck to you!
Change your routine. For example if you normally have your coffee in the kitchen...try taking it to the living room instead. The change of pace and scenery (no matter how small) can help relieve some of the craving. Keep gum or candy around you for when you feel like you need a ciggie, or sip some water instead. Keep it up, you made a great decision. Best of luck!
Just remember that your desire to have a cigarette will pass in time. It-s not a need, like food or sleep. Needs get stronger as time passes, whereas desire comes and goes. The longer without something the easier it can be to go without it, psychologically speaking.
replace the addiction with something else. chew gum, start knitting, go running, eat chocolate...anything! substituting bad addictions for new ones has shown to actually work!! you just have to make sure it-s not a worse addiction...like alcohol or drugs or something. make sure it-s like a hobby or an activity! good luck and i have faith in you!!! :]
By nicotine gum. It is great for the cravings. I would chew a piece for an hour. And I quit five years ago.
Other gum helps but not as much.
Chew on a straw or a toothpick with your coffee. Or have tea or go for a walk instead.
Sit only with non smokers.
don-t try cold turkey, i dont know if your on patches or anything but if your not try nicorret gum it will at least help a little bit but what ever you do DONT GIVE UP!

keep it up.
hope it goes well.

xxx
think of all of the wrinkles you will get from it... also, go jogging or exercise when you feel the need... it really helps
Chew gum and eat everything in sight. I did the patches and im down to 14 patches a day.
Smoke cigs that you do not like. If you smoke regular cigs, buy menthol cigs like Newports instead.
google pictures on the effects on smoking and it should work.
be determined!
be dominant in this battle yeahh!
chew gum or suck on hard candy....or you could try chantix the new pill to help you quit smoking...good luck!
then just do it who cares god its not like one cig is gonna cause lung cancer quit when ur old and pruny its not like ur gonna be in american idol or something lol
Water helps.
dont do it. stop smoking is the best for you.
try a new vice. how about ......?
Not to be offensive, mind you. Are you fat? If so, you hsould not quit. If yo ustop you will just grow bigger

How can I quit smoking and not gain weight? -

Some years ago I hadn-t smoked for about 8 months, but I gained about 10 Kg. I want to quit again, hopefully for good, but I-m afraid I-ll have the same problem. Could you give some good tips for quitting, too? Thanks!
i asked the same exact question two days ago and they told me only one third gain, one third lose , and one third stay the same. eat less calories, like you are on a diet for about three weeks. drink a ton of water and exercise. dont replace cigarettes with food. I know, I am scared of that too and I am going to try the suggestions. go to this website. American Cancer Society.com. or ACS. com I forgot. for tips. Your metabolism does slow down, but not so drastically you should gain weight. well, best wishes!
just quit your better off
You can-t
if you figure that one out let me know I would greatly appreciate the info. As far as quitting goes I-ve tried three times and when I start to gain weight I freak and start again. Sorry I know I-m no help.

I want to quit smoking cigarettes cold turkey...is this possible?
It-s possible. One idea is not to count how many days it-s been...I mean if you really want to quit what are you counting for?

I did it 9 years ago (approx since I didn-t count exactly).

Exercise helps too...gives additional reason not to smoke.
Yeah, I did, in August. It helps a lot to not be around people who smoke in the first eight weeks. And also: keep busy. I caught myself thinking: Oh, and now, since I have nothing to do, I-ll have a cigarette- in the first few weeks, and than I sat down, told myself very clearly that I wasn-t having a cigarette, since I quit, and got myself a glass of water or prepared myself a cup of fruit tea (to keep the calory intake down, since when you smoke, you also burn 300 calories a day more than you would normally do. A nutritionist told me that when I quit). I also used tricks like smelling my clothes after I had worn them for one day and realizing that they still smelled nice, and not like cold ash, and I loved that my hair smelled like my shampoo, and not like smoke, so I built up positive small steps that I had always with me to remind me how much better it was to not smoke.

Also, if you are old enough to drink, don-t drink in the first few weeks, since than your desire for a cigarette will also rise, your self control will not kick in since you are relaxed, and than - pitfall!

Good luck with it. I did it, though eight weeks ago (after a 3 hour exam) I had one cigarette, and I was really sick five minutes later and for the whole evening. Headache, sick to my stomach... I had to go to bed and sleep it out, but had planned to go out and party... I am never touching a cigarette again!

Oh, also: Bodyly cravings for nicotine from smoking are gone in TWO days! That is clinically proven. The rest is your mind playing tricks on you. It helped me a lot to tell me that, especially in the first month.
Exercise helps -- eating and staying hydrated helps.

I use Mint Commit 2mg -- and whenever I get a craving, i-ll pop one. I-m going on 2 months now and I-m considering kicking commit now.

It helped me to get a chest x-ray too -- when the doc looks at you and says you DO have smoking lungs...it-s compelling.

I have a book that helped too. It-s called Quitting Smoking for Dummies. Educate yourself on the poison your inhaling and it helps.

I tried cold turkey and lasted about 2 weeks. Those strong cravings need to be curbed w/ something -- nicorette, commit, the patch.

Good luck -- you can do it!!

If you really want to quit smoking do what I did. Buy the eCigarette. It works great, you still get to smoke and there is no tar, tabbaco, or smell. I am telling you I bought it at a mall for $150, I found it for about $70 at http://www.giftgiftgifts.com/cat-ecigarette.cfm and there is a lot of information at http://www.gadgetworldus.com/eCigrettes.html Ceck it out.
It is better to ween yourself off of them. That way you pace yourself, and don-t drive yourself back to smoking again. You cut a little back each week until you hit 0. Going from lets say 20 to 0, is asking too much. You-ll drive yourself, and everyone around you crazy.
With a strong mind it is possible. It-s been done before and is the cheapest option.
Here are some videos and a promise club that might help.

http://www.promiseaid.com/promises/quits…

Before nicotine patches/gum and drugs people did it this way.

The chance of succeeding increases with meds/NRT, but cold turkey is worth a try.

Save the money up and spend it on yourself!
yes with a lot of will power!
how about using a product that helps to quit smoking.
Just do it.
I chewed lots of gum and ate sunflower seeds
why?? talk to your doctor about Chantix.

Quit smoking, can I still grow? -

Quit smoking, can I still grow? -

I started smoking when I was 14, and I was like maybe 5-6 then. I am now 17 and I am 5-9. I have recently quit smoking and started eating healthy and exercising regularly. Is it realistic to think that I will reach 6-, or taller. When I was a baby the doctors said because of my abnormally large head I was probally going to be pretty tall. My dad is around 6-2 and my mom is around 5-2. Ohh and Im a guy, I guess that would help.
You only have a year or so left. It is possible.
Males don-t reach full maturity until age 21 (thats why it-s the drinking age here in the US) so maybe. You might just bulk up and not get taller though.
Good job on quiting smoking. Since your only 17, you will definitly be at least 6- if your 5-9 now. But it might now be until your like 19 or 20
My son was only 5-5- until he turned 18. Then he had a huge growth spurt and is now 6-2-. Be patient and keep away from those cigs and see what happens.
Well, you might grow for another 3 years, and then again you might not. Get plenty of sleep and work on your posture to make the best of what you are and will be.
Anyway, 5-9- is not exactly short.
ummmmmm no. It-s hereditary I don-t smoke, never have and am still only 5ft lol
