People who have quit smoking? -

I quit about 8 days ago, I-m fine with cravings and things like that but I have had this annoying cough for around 8 days....it-s SO frustrating! I coughed up all the -junk- already but I can-t seem to get rid of this cough, for Christ sake I cough worse NOW then when I used to smoke lol..

Does anyone have any idea when this may stop?
i gave up 9 weeks ago and had same little cough for about 2 weeks i dont no what it was maybe its the body getting used of no nicotine, mine is gone now and i feel great, if its not gone in a week maybe you should visit the doctor to get it checked,
ans way to go you on being smoke free :)
Firstly well done for quitting! I believe that what is happening is that the loose phlegm has come out pretty quickly and easily and now your struggling to get the thicker phlegm from deeper in your lungs out. You may get small amounts of really thick phlegm coming out after what seems like an eternity of coughing. The coughing is a symptom of your lungs trying to clear themselves. Sometimes you may need to pat your chest to help it come up. If you start spitting blood then it-s a sign that your chest is getting aggravated and you should see a doctor. I-m also a strong believer of natural therapies and you may find relief from a Chinese Medical Practitioner who can use herbs and heat therapies to move the phlegm up and out.
I gave up last October after a bout of pneumonia
( I have emphysema) all went good seeing I was a smoker for over 40 years.
Now April I-m getting cravings bad.
I never did get a cough when I stopped My specialist didn-t think that was a issue I had a Spiro type test in Jan and it came back as slightly improved even though I was smoking 2 at night only 1mg ones
You are just lucky you quit! In time it wouldn-t have been coughing up stuff, it would have been blood. Give it time, it didn-t start in 8 days and it won-t stop in that amount of time, but it will. You will feel so much better and also smell better. I smoked for 53 years, so I know.....Grammy
Others have told me you will continue to cough for a while after you quit smoking - when the lungs have cleared themselves the cough just goes away completely.
It will pass on it-s own. In the mean time, I recommend sucking on cough drops and taking some mucinex to get the rest of the gunk out.
