I want to quit smoking but patches and gum didnt work i want to try inhalers but my insurance wont pay -

heres my question will the doctor still prescibe them even though the insurance company that won-t pay for them is paying for the doctors visit. i plan on paying for the prescibtion myself. it-s medicaid by the way
I can-t answer that question but i can tell you of two people I know who smoked for more than 20 years quit when they were Hypnotized..It was only 60 dollars a visit and it only took one visit for both people..
Try smart fixx.
I think they will still prescribe.. also, the drug Chantix is great. My hubby and I both quit using that. Miracle drug as far as I can tell!!!!
I quit one week ago today. Pack a day for 18 years. No gum or patches or anything. It was hard the first 3 days. Now it-s super easy. I-ll never smoke again.
Here-s how I quit smoking:

I bought an Xbox video console, and NASCAR racing game. Every time I wanted a smoke, I fired up the racing game and used pretzel rods to chomp on. I was off the smokes in about two weeks, and have NEVER had a smoke since.
See if they-ll pay for Chantix.

What did you do to help with the cravings of quitting smoking?
Hi Kristina R ..

well actually i am going to answer the second question first.. first of all cravings, are a natural part of quitting.. they are simply, the body-s response to detoxing.. although they are unpleasant, they can be managed.. if you smoke, you simply postpone the craving..

people involved in support groups use a technique we call the 5D-s to deal with cravings..

1 distract (do something else) for instance its hard to smoke when your washing dishes..

2 delay..(i don-t need one now maybe later).. continuing to delay is a quit!!

3 discuss.. we call each other, or post to the internet (like you just did)

4 drink water.. it flushes the body and stops cravings..

5 deep breathe.. many smokers only deep breathe when taking a deep drag.. deep breathing is a classic relaxation technique

you may have noticed i mentioned a support group.. they have been very helpful in my quitting, as well as instrumental in keeping my my quit.. after a number of attempts, on my own, both cold turkey, and with various aids, the one thing that worked was the group..

I attend Nicotine Anonymous meetings, both locally, and on line.. on line meetings are as close as your computer, and your welcome to attend before actually attempting a quit..

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.
I recommend cutting down gradually until your quit date. I did this. I cut down to half a pack. I did this for three months. I smoked by the puff, not by the cigarette. I took only the amount of nicotine that was necessary to satisfy my urge to smoke and put the rest of the cigarette out.

After doing this for three months I quit cold turkey.

Now I-m eating more candy to distract me but its been 8 months. I have urges but they don-t last more than a second or two. If they-re lasting more than that then you-re concentrating on the cigarette. Don-t do it. Concentrate on something else.
Smoke marijuana and throw away all your cigs. Smoke M.J. for a couple weeks and you shouldn-t have to worry about cigs anymore. M.J. isn-t addictive so you can end that when you-d like.
Sunflower seeds helped my mom quit.
i wish i could help you, its a hard think i will be praying for you and good luck!

I want to quit smoking but smoking keeps my weight down, what do I do? -

I want to quit smoking and resort to the nicotine inhaler but I-m afraid I-m going to be fat again, this is one of my worst fears. I have been smoking for 2 years. What do you have to say...?
-Chantix- You can get a script from your doctor. To keep off the weight eat healthy foods and get moderate exercise.
Find other things to do with your hands.
Also when the craving starts, drink a large glass of water. It will curb the craving.
It takes willpower and the desire to really quit. Stop telling yourself cigarettes keep the weight off. YOU can keep the weight off!
Have confidence in yourself!
EXERCISE! I quit 6 months ago after 30 years of smoking and exercised another 20 pounds off afterwards. I-m not selling anything - go to my blog to see how I did it: www.bazookajeff.com

The exercising made me want to quit so I could breath, I then added in a six meal a day diet of healthy food which removed the binging which is where I always bulked up with every other failed attempt to quit.

Good luck!
trade nicotine for caffeine, it easier to get off of and will still keep your metabolism high. just be careful and good luck, you can do it. exercise helps too (curbs your appetite).
Why would you get fat? Just eat healthy and get plenty of moderate exercise. But think about it. Smoking is not only keeping your weight down, but your health too. Theirs nothing wrong with a little meat on your bones. :/
Drink lots of water, keep low calorie snacks on hand,ie: celery, carrots,un buttered popcorn. Do your best to pick up your activity level.
chewing gum
don-t buy cigarette
don-t look at somebody while they smoke
just keep something in your mouth for around 3 months

Lung cancer sure will make you lose a lot of weight.
Stop now.

Does hypnotism work to quit smoking? -

Does hypnotism work to quit smoking? -

Looking for anybody who has had any experience w/ this.
I recently ordered John Carrs book -The easiest way to quit smoking.- I am a very, very long time smoker and heard about this book. I am now on chapter 9 and believe, after trying so many times to quit, think this book is the answer. Check it out on line. And good luck. I know a few that went with hypnotism, and that didn-t work for any of them.
it will work if you believe it will work.

the fact is, you have to DECIDE to quit smoking. it-s not like the cigarettes magically put themselves in your mouth and light. if you want to quit smoking, THEN QUIT. it-s that easy.

the only reason it feels difficult is because you-re convinced it will BE difficult. i smoked a pack a day for almost 10 years, before quitting cold turkey over a year ago. i WANTED to quit. i-m not gonna lie and say i didn-t have cravings. but the fact of the matter is, when you have a craving, it-s still a CONSCIOUS decision to put a cigarette in your mouth and light it. and every time the craving comes, and it-s time to make that decision, you must DECIDE to not smoke.

before long, the cravings stop, and the decision will no longer have to be made.

so yes, if you believe the hypnosis will work, then it will.
Some people, like me, are cyncial control freaks who can-t be hypnotized because we-re En Garde!
Now, for those three people I know who-ve tried,
IT FAILED.
Meanwhile, I-ve successfully quit smoking for two months, of my own free will.
For the fourth time in six years. :-)
THEY TOLD ME THAT SMOKING WOULD TASTE LIKE CRAP AND IT DID FOR THE 1ST FEW WEEKS,AFTER THAT IT WAS BACK TO NORMAL
it has worked for some people but hypnotism combined with group cognitive behavioral therapy is more effective
I quit cold turkey. And I-m smoke-free for 3 years now! My girlfriend was hypnotized and she quit for 2 years so, yes, it can work. I think the trick is that you have to REALLY REALLY want to quit and you will - by whatever method you choose. Good luck to you!
this is almost the same thing:

i command you to quit smoking....
nope, it work for 4 days, then back to smoking, went back to try again, laughed through the whole session, don-t waste your money.
Hypnotism helped me start smoking. So, I assume it can help people quit.
no. but is does help you to spend some of your money. I know someone who did it. He stoped or smoked less for a few days afterwards and bang - back to the same way it was before. I believe smoking has a lot to do with the social surroundings. Do you have friends that smoke??????? ;)

My mother has been smoking for 37 years, and she is ready to quit, but her addiction is strong. Did the medication help you at all, and did it have any side effects?
Thanks in advance!
I took Chantix from October of 2006 through December of 2006 and it worked great for me. I haven-t smoked since! There are side effects to the medicine (upset stomach, trouble sleeping, unusual dreams) but they go away after your body adjusts to the medicine.

Even with the medicine though you have to WANT to quit and you do need some willpower. The pill will help with your physical cravings to smoke but it won-t do anything for the behavioral side. Any time it was a habit for me to smoke (in the car, before a meal, after a meal, right before bed, etc) I still wanted a cigarette. I did what I could to change my routine and that helped (in the car I-d sing with the radio or suck on a piece of sugar free candy, after a meal I-d start sucking on mints, etc).

I wish your mother much luck in quitting! While the road may be a bit bumpy, it will definitely be worth the trip.

Is it normal to feel this sick after quitting smoking? -

Is it normal to feel this sick after quitting smoking? -

Hi, I just quit smoking cold-turkey about 8 days ago. About 5 days into it I started to get an itchy throat and by the 7th day I was hacking up both my lungs along with a lot of phlegm. I have cold like symptoms such as a stuffed up nose. I-ve quit twice before but I-ve never gotten this sick before. I-m just wondering if it-s normal.
Yes. Your body is creating more mucous as it heals itself (the lungs) from the tar created by smoking. After a couple weeks it will go away. You may still have more mucous, but it will continue to get better.
Coughing up phlegm is normal, as is a sore throat. Both your lungs and throat are relining themselves with cilia, which you have removed by smoking. In the meantime, as a backup, your lungs have been overproducing macrophages to remove dust and other particles. This overreaction and inflammatory response is what causes COPD, i.e. progressive lung disease and failure. Hopefully, your overproduction of phlegm is not a sign that this process is already well underway.
yepp, its normal, all that coughing is you lungs loosening, and kiccking back the crap that gets put in there from the smoke. disgusting as it is, carry around like a soda bottle or something to spit it into, you cant just swallow it. dont worry, it doenst last long, and afterwards, you-ll feel much better.
good luck with your new life-style =]
Getting sick after quitting smoking is totally normal. Your lungs are just not used to it. It should stop after a month or two.
I don-t know, put a nicotine patch on, it you still have the same symptoms, then I guess you have a cold!
completely normal. You-re cleaning out all that crud that-s been trapped in there for so long. best of luck, stay strong. It-s unbelievably hard but possible! I quit 16 days ago.
Oh yeah I was sick for 2 weeks when I first quit.
You have a cold try drinking cold medicines
Yes! its the bodys way of self cleansing i guess, ironic how a good thing can feel so horrible!

I felt like I was dying for the first couple of weeks as well..
your answer is in my sources

I really want to quit smoking and I have tried everything... almost. Many of my friends have had success quitting with Chantix, a prescription that they got from their doctor. Here-s the problem, my doctor doesn-t know I smoke and I-m afraid to tell her to ask for the prescription because she is a really close family friend.
Are there any other ways to get it?
Thanks...
Go to another GP, any doctor can issue a prescription.

But you know whats more effective than Champix. Try using this new product called the Electronic Cigarette.

It-s a electronic device that imitates a real cigarette but mitigates the risk. All it delivers in nicotine, so its not a tobacco product. It even releases a -smoke like- vapour. It-s not smoke because it doesn-t burn anything.

Hard to explain in words, you gotta have to preview it on the net. Search electronic cigarette. I bought mine on EBAY. It-s kept me off smokes since the new year. It-s like a miracle cure.

I hope this helps
This program was great. Thank you so much, I had smoked for about 34 years. I never really tried to quit smoking before, I tried this program and it was really easy for me. I smoked about 1-1-1/2 packs of cigarette-s a day. I would recommend this program to anyone. It is worth for every smoker who wants to quit this slow suicide habit, this is your last chance to get rid of it eternally.

My husband and I both quit (not at the same time) cold turkey. All you need is the WILL to quit. Then it-s all mind over matter. Cold turkey is cheap and easy. Right now, wet any cigs you have, get those nasty ash trays and throw them all away!
I see women everyday who find they-re pregnant, so they quit immediately! Or other people are told they have to quit because of heart disease or lung cancer. These people quit, and some of them have been smoking for 40 years, 3 packs a day!
Willpower is all you need, Sweetie. For the first 3 days just keep busy and chew gum or suck on hard candies. I promise you-ll feel very proud to say, -I don-t smoke.-
Bless you and good luck! :)
Hi
I suggest NLP (Neuro-Linguistic-Programming). NLP is a form of psychotherapy which is applied to help people like you, to stop smoking. The recordings that are created, has the very latest revolutionary techniques which has helped myself and my friend to completely stop smoking.
You only need to spend around 40 minutes listening to the recording, just download the file onto your MP3 player or CD and you-ll be on your way to a smoke free future.
YOU can Kick The Habit For Good In Just 38 Minutes - 13 Seconds with success rate of 97.2%

Wish you all the success in quitting the Cancer sticks.
HONESTLY quitting is a BIG commitment you must make.
And if you have kids, your helping them out too.
Well one thing that should help, is seeing friends and family die because of cigarette use. I personally have had family who nearly have died because of the NASTY chemicals involved.
if you really want to quit, there is help out there.
if you want you can check with your doctor to see what option is best for you. i know a lot of people choose to take the patch route, and it works. but you STILL have to be determined.
hopefully you quit man, im pulling for you.
The easiest way is to not put a cigarette in your mouth and not to light it.

I smoke 30 cigerettes per day, I want to quit smoking, can any one help? -

To counter any potential side effects of nicotine withdrawal, it is helpful to gradually transition yourself out of smoking 30 cigarettes per day. You will also need to consider filling in the habit of lighting a cigarette and puffing it with other activities that keeps your hand and mouth busy (i.e. chewing gums everytime there is a desire to smoke a cigarette). Talk to your doctor about use of nicotine patch and definitely participate in smoking cessation support groups. Best of luck!

I used welbutrin and it worked wonderfully
wow congratulations!! you have stepped out of the cloud of smoke one becomes enveloped in when a smoker and are now in the real world. go smell the roses.. and well done.( yeah me too ,..8 years ago and theres no going back..) i used imagery, i told myself i was a non smoker and pretended it was so until it became so. every time i felt like i needed a smoke id go do something that made my lungs work hard and i felt too puffed out to care about smoking any more. its such a better life!!
Congratulations! I quit by using the Nicoderm CQ patch; almost 18 years ago. Your lungs will take time to heal - recover, but as they do...you-ll find you have more energy.
I used anger to quit smoking, and it worked superbly. I just kept imagining rich tobacco merchants laughing at the bank, thinking how stupid I was to buy their cancer sticks. It took a few tries, but I prevailed in the end. I haven-t smoked in 16 years.

That connected to the world feeling is the result of your blood gradually losing its load of carbon monoxide. You-d been getting duller to that sensation because the CO was locking the oxygen out of your hemaglobin, so your brain wasn-t as alive as it could be.

i have been smoking for 12 years. i want to quit, and start taking up exercise and getting myself into shape. how long would i have to wait before starting to get fit/go to gym? ive heard its not healthy to start as soon as u have given up smoking? thanks
you should go to your doctor and see what he/she has to say. everybody-s body is different, so you should see what would be the best for you.
start straight away if you havent quite smoking still go to the gym.dont waste any time. lots of sports people smoke so get going, in time you will be pleased that you did . happy training
Ha!
Wait about 2 seconds.
The sooner you get started getting you body back in shape and your lungs clear, the better.
Great job on quitting!!!!
quitting smoking isnt going to be easy id suggest using working out to wean yourself off the cigs start off slow you get a craving for a smoke and you do ten pushups work on getting into working out slowly and the same with getting out of smoking. the working out will help take your mind off your cravings.

i dont see where it would matter much how long u waited to work out but if you want to be deffinate ask a doctor...but if dont think its a great idea to have a doctor help you quit with a plan my parents tried that and the doctor nagged at them for not quitting fast enough and it stressed them out and they still smoke

good luck with everything
Check with your doctor first. Your doctor can recommend a good program for you to help you. Good luck...I have a smoker trying to quit here, too!!

How can I help my boyfriend quit smoking? -

My boyfriend has been smoking for almost 3 years now. He probably smokes 2 packs a week.

How can I help him to quit? I want to be supportive and encourage him to do so. I know he gets frustrated and wants to quit but he never seems to do it or take any steps in the right direction. I don-t think he knows where to start.
Be harsh.
If he doesn-t respond well to encouragement point out all the bad things about smoking.
* The devastating effects it can have on your health.
* How it restricts you when you go out.
* How he smells ( well make sure he is crazy over you - unless you want to get jibbed :P)
* The expense of it all.

Every time he doesn-t smoke a packet tell him to put the equivalent of what that would normally cost in a jar. At the end of the month treat yourselves to a smoke free night out, using this money - then see which he prefers.

Hope I helped
Emily

Change your boyfriend habits

Switch to juices or water instead of alcohol or coffee. Take a different route to work. Take a brisk walk instead of a coffee break.

Alternatives: Use substitutes you can put in your mouth such as sugarless gum or hard candy, raw vegetables such as carrot sticks, or sunflower seeds. Some people chew on a coffee stirrer or a straw.

Activities: Do something to reduce your stress. Exercise or do hobbies that keep your hands busy, such as needlework or woodworking, which can help distract you from the urge to smoke. Take a hot bath, exercise, or read a book.

Deep breathing: When you were smoking, you breathed deeply as you inhaled the smoke. When the urge strikes now, breathe deeply and picture your lungs filling with fresh, clean air. Remind yourself of your reasons for quitting and the benefits you-ll gain as an ex-smoker.

Delay: If you feel that you are about to light up, delay. Tell yourself you must wait at least 10 minutes. Often this simple trick will allow you to move beyond the strong urge to smoke.
A smoker may have a big mix of different emotions when he or she decides to quit smoking. On the other hand, an individual trying to quit smoking may be terrified of failure due to difficulties of nicotine withdrawal. This is where a smoking clinic or rehabilitation center might come in handy. For some, they need the support of others who are either going through the same things as they are or who have already been there. Your boyfriend is more likely to become depressed about quitting smoking if you he-s the only one quitting.
Tell him he will not give him any for a month. Lol. You will have to go ahead and buy him something to get him kick started. I have been a smoker for about 8 years and i struggled a lot when i was trying to quit. I failed 4 times in the past and i tried the gum, the patch and even cold turkey. About three months ago i saw a girl at a bar having a Smokeless Cigarette. i was amazed to see how it worked and she hasn-t had a real cigarette in over 6 weeks. I decided to try them about ago and i haven-t had a real cigarette since. These things have worked really well and i have slowly weened myself to the lowest level of nicotine. These are def a healthier alternative to real cigarettes. check them out at this site. Good Luck!!!
Well basically people smoke because of the nicotine so i would have him try and electronic cigaretter, their safer, healthier, and use water vapor not smoke.? So if someone is trying to quit i would suggest them to give this a shot.
tell about the negative effects of smoking

Smoking is hard to give up will nicotine patches help wat foods should i eat and i want to keep my muscle mass any suggestions?
nicotine patches do help, but if you want to try some alternative methods that don-t include more nicotine use (that-s what got you addicted in the first place), try some different products without all the chemical junk. I found some really good stuff at International Oddities, and if you replace it with cigarettes slowly, you-ll be able to wean yourself off of the nicotine and quit smoking altogether. Good luck!

You can find the products at
http://internationaloddities.com/smokeno…

The patch does help, so does changing your routine at the same time and getting fitter. Go to a local chemist that particpates in the NHS scheme - most do - and you will be able to get the patches either for free or a prescription charge.
You will find developing muscle mass will actually be easier when you stop smoking - get generally fit with some daily jogging or cycling and do some weights every other day.
As for diet - just keep it healthy, cut out the junk food, eat plenty of fruit and veg and drink water rather than pop.
I-ve done the same as you want to do and after 3 weeks feel like a new person and I-d smoked for 20 years!
i can only comment on the smoking side of the question, but if you want to give up smoking now its good, see your doctor about giving up. definetly dont leave it like i did and still be smoking in your twenties wishing you had never started. nicotine patches do work, but you need the willpower as well. and if you get advised to go to smoking cessation (chatting with a nurse), definetly go to it. its gives you more motivation to stop.
i agree i have now gone over 3 months with out a ciggy i went to see the practise nurse every two weeks for the 3 months i have been using the new tablet called champix .mind you i had been smoking for nearly fourty years before the nurse sorted me out

I quit smoking a week ago. How long can I expect the withdrawls to last? -

I-v been smoking 20 yrs and the olny bad part is the headaches.
a month or so
It’s important to remember that much of what you may be feeling is the nicotine withdrawal talking. The withdrawal symptoms will pass and it won’t be so hard to avoid smoking. It takes most people between 2 to 4 months before they stop thinking that they need a cigarette on a daily basis and get over the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal. It’s important to keep a positive attitude throughout your journey to stop smoking for good. Not allowing negative thoughts to enter your mind regarding smoking is extremely important to your success.
Congratulations. Hat-s off to you. I-m still smoking can-t seem to quit that-s why i have no idea. XD. Keep it up.

I have quit smoking, can anyone give any good pointers on fighting cravings? -

I am trying to contiue being smoke free. I quite two weeks ago on the patch. Does anyone have any good ideas on how I can fight cravings better? Also I would like to wing off the patch earlier what do you think and whats the best way if you think its a good idea?
I smoked two packs a day for 20 yrs. I had tried to quit several times and always went back. Out of nowhere, I just decided to quit. I placed 2 full packs of cigs on top of my fridge, and started walking. The hardest part was the hand to mouth thing. I then went to drinking lots of water. I always had a bottle of water in my hand for the hand to mouth thing...not a large bottle, just a small one so its not annoying. I then started getting a new sense of smell. My hair smelt good along with everything else. I never turned back, as I gained so much by quitting smoking. I-m not talkin bout weight here either. I lost 20 lbs, was running 5 miles a day, and was healthier than ever. I don-t have time to exercise now, but the smell makes me sick to my stomache. I never thought at the time, there would ever be a day that I didn-t have my cigs. Anyway, you don-t need a patch, just good ole water and keeping busy. Good Luck to which ever way you decide works for you though!!
First off, good for you! YAY!
Anyways, my mom bought low cal sugar free hard candies, so she could suck on one when she felt like she wanted to smoke.
I bought a lot of Certs, the fruit ones, and ate one of those whenever I had a craving.

It not only worked, it-s making me crave a Certs right now!

Seriously, it helped a lot.
Remember the four D-s
?delay acting on the urge to smoke. Don-t open a pack or light a cigarette. After five minutes, the urge to smoke weakens and your determination to quit will come back
?deep breathe. Take a long slow breath in, breathe slowly out again. Repeat three times
?drink water. Sip slowly, holding it in your mouth a little longer to savor the taste
?do something else. Take your mind off smoking by taking action; keep your hands busy, put on some music, go for a walk or ring a friend.

Good luck
This page talks about why you have cravings. I-m surprised if the patch worked for you cause it didn-t help at all when I was quitting. This worked pretty well - I-ve been smoke free for a few months now.

Chew gum, or eat mints.
Do not drink alcohol.
Keep yourself active.
Put yourself in places where smoking is prohibited.
Stay away from smokers (if possible) until the craving subsides.
Research what the lungs look like in a smoker ~yuck~

Good luck - be healthy and well !!
When you get the craving pray and ask God to remove the craving and also get mind on something else like doing a hobby or take a walk. I think prob it would not be good to try and wean off the patch too soon or you risk the chance of being unsuccessful in your quiting.
Hang out with friends that are encouraging you to hang in there. That is the best bet. Also, pray to God to give you the courage and strength during this time of temptation.
Yeah my dad smoked for 38 years 2 1/2 packs a day. He did the patch and it didn-t work and then he did it again and it worked. First of all try to stay away from stressful things, and yes buy candy, I-d go with sugar-free also. I-m sorry to tell you this but you will gain weight... So unless your happily married I-d hit up the gym! =)

EDIT: My dad took candies with him to suck on, so he can get his mind off cigarette-s for about a year or two after he did smoke like 2 cigarette-s a month but then when he went out he just didn-t care anymore. He could go to the casino and everyone could be smoking and he don-t care. Also don-t you feel more like you can breathe now, and you don-t wake up all clammy?
remember what cancer looks like, in the mouth, or in the lungs or your breasts removed.

I have been without a `fag` for over 50 hours now. I know it does not seem very long, I I quit on my own at 11. 00 am Thursday, then started the patches Friday. In one of the booklets the quit smoking nurse gave me, it says that after 48 hours your sense of smell and taste should start to come back, but as yet there is no improvement in mine. Also is there anyone else out there who has a `vile` taste in their mouth, is this caused by `fags`
When I gave up smoking my sense of taste and smell was no different!
You won-t necessarily notice it coming back - I gave up several years ago and never really noticed a great deal of difference - I even wonder if it-s true that you lose these senses very much due to smoking - and furthermore, if you want to beat Yahoo-s silly idea of a swear word, type the word F A G with spaces !-
Your sense of smell and taste will improve your craving for a smoke is not so strong and that is n about two weeks. When I gave up smoking (33 years ago) I smoked my last cigarette on Friday afternoon and spent that evening and weekend in bed because I was feeling very drowsy and was perspiring a lot. By Monday I was feeling well enough to go to work and the rest is history. I never used patches or taken any tablets. I was only thinking of how much better off my family and I were.
I quit about 6 years ago using Zyban tablets and found my sense of taste came back so gradually it wasn-t noticeable that it had changed. My sense of smell came back with a vengeance after a couple of weeks. I could smell someone smoking at a hundred yards and many other strong smells are very noticeable over quite a long distance.
I wish you loads of luck with your attempt and hope it is successful
it all depends on how long u smoked for if you smoke no stop it will take about 3 months and if uv dun it for a a month or sumthin it shud come back within a week lol but eat spicy foods and ur taste will come back a bit sooner
Well done - keep on going you are doing great. I gave up six months ago, my taste buds did change but it is a gradual thing - it doesn-t happen overnight. I really really started to enjoy my food - when I smoked I would eat afew mouthfuls and then my mind would wander to a ciggie - now for the first time in years, I finish my food completely!. Buy a peak flow meter (boots about £10) and watch your lung capacity increase - that will make you feel good too. Keep at it - I have pretty much forgotten that I ever smoked now.

Has anyone ever quit smoking sucessfully? -

have you or someone you know ever quit smoking sucessfully? how did they do it?
Realize that the physical addiction lasts only three days!!!!!!!!!!!
After that it is all about getting over the habit of smoking when you drive or eat or have sex or wake-up. Learn to overcome the habit of putting something to your mouth. Idle hands. Get a hobby like carving wood. Good luck.
I quit smoking, and I bet you-re going think I-m crazy when I say how I did it. I switched to healthy electric cigarettes. They don-t cause cancer, are 1/4th the cost of regular cigarettes, don-t smell stinky (trust me you will agree cigarettes stink after you can smell again), and it still looks like you-re smoking (smoke, the feeling, and the lit tip). I know it-s hard to believe but this will show you what I-m talking about http://bit.ly/13XSOP (if you can-t click on it just copy and paste into the address bar of your browser).

Anyways, I tried to quit for 6 years before I found this. I used to think I couldn-t live without cigarettes. Have your cake and eat it too? Maybe. But I can live with that.
yes Jessica..

its never easy, but it is entirely doable.. i have been quit for over 5 years, after smoking for over 40.. not only that, but i personally know of hundreds who have quit... the method we used, was being members, of a support group.. the support of other quitters, as well as ,the experience, of older members, is a very strong incentive..

yes my friend sue quit. It all depends on will power, control, and discipline. Some people are just able to quit cold turkey while ours can-t. In the case of my friend she gradually cut back on how many cigs. she smoked. she used to smoke like 3/4 a day now she doesn-t anymore.. it took her a month
yess my daddy(:

How to quit smoking cold turkey? -

My friend, a 14 year old male, smokes cigarettes about 6 times a day. he-s tried gum and sunflower seeds, but he really wants to quit cold turkey. any ideas?
Here is what I would recommend:

1) Use the patch and start on step 3. I used to smoke and when I did this, I started on step 2 because I was around 1-2 packs a day and couldn-t afford the patch long enough to do all 3 steps. I never felt a craving of nicotine on step 2 though

2) Have a pack of gum on hand at all times for when the oral fixation occurs

3) Do not drink alcohol for 2-3 months at least as these are the times it is most difficult for a newly non-smoker to not have one

4) kindly ask your friends who are smokers to not smoke when your friend is around. If they are true friends, they will happily take to this request.

5) Get some exercise because quitting smoking tends to add 15-20 pounds on.

* get past the 1st week and it gets easier from there.
Hypnosis.

My dad was a smoker for 25 years and after he gave hypnosis a go he-s never turned back since. May take a few sessions for it to work though.
Only two words for going cold turkey: self control.
It does help to have a hobby the he likes to do close to him so it can distract him.
try smoking ham.
let him smoke
it takes 21 days to make a habit, so try breaking it in the same time
