How can I help my husband quit smoking? -

He wants to, but the patch hasn-t worked and the gum didn-t help. His addiction might be more mental than physical.
Have you considered hypnosis? A good hypnotist can usually determine why he smokes, what he could do instead to satisfy the craving or addiction, and find the underlying causative factors that led him to begin smoking in the first place, and then use guided imagery and positive health suggestion to help the smoker decide to take a healthier path
Very good.. You can find NGH members referral service at

when i was younger like 9 i got tired of my grandparents smoking and makin me smell like smoke so i blew snot in his cigrettes he didn-t smoke that whole day and i would hide his carton of cigs
Remind him of the side affects. show him pictures of cancer, especially those from second hand smoke and remind him that it is affecting you too. Since he loves you that will probably wake him up. Plus taking it slow will help, set up goals. And don-t forget to be his cheerleader. And if you have kids, remind him that he wants to be in their lives and yours for as long as possible.

How to quit smoking? Is there any tips for quitting smoking? -

Is there any tips to quit smoking which is easy and powerful? b-coz i tried so many times but not succeeded.
my uncle tried this and so should you!
1. find a jelly jar (or any little jar) and fill it half way with water
2. put some cigarettes inside the jar
3. shake it up and put the cap on
4. bring it with you everywhere a
5. smell it when you want to smoke
6. keep smelling until the urge goes away (warning: it smells AWFUL)
7. after a while, you won-t even WANT to THINK about smoking
it worked for him, and i really hope it works for you. good luck!!
My parents tried for years to quit smoking. Mom tried Zyban and a bunch of other drug related things, but nothing helped without giving her some nasty side effects.

In the end she tried hypnosis, and hasn-t touched cigarettes since. Neither does she want to! :D

There-s a company I visit on the internet (see source below) who do hypnosis downloads. Basically, just listen to the download each day and your mindset towards smoking will change.

You won-t smoke anymore because you just won-t want to! It-s the most easy and powerful way I know! Hope that helps!
everyone is different and a method that works well for one person may not work so well for some else. The main ingredient is your desire to quit - once you are 100% sure YOU WANT TO QUIT then all methods actually get easier. After many, many failed attempts my husband and myself both quit -for good- in May 1996 and have been 100% smoke free ever since... I know one thing once you do manage to quit you never regret it - the only thing you regret is the amount of money you wasted on your smoking habit!
Is your body and mind addicted to just the nicotine or the nicotine - habit. For me it was both so I went with www.stopsmokingwithecigarettes.com Now I am slowly taking my body off the nicotine without any of the with drawls. I don-t have to worry about any of the negative side effects because there aren-t any. (no second hand smoke.) I also no longer have to worry about -where- I can have my next smoke because I use it when ever where ever I want. Cost is 1/2 the price of a pack of cigarettes. It-s amazingly easy to get to the next lower cartridge.
Cold turkey is the only way to go. Quick and cheap, and all you need is the WANT to quit. I see it this every day: A woman finds out she-s pregnant, so she quits. A man finds out he has heart disease or lung cancer, so he quits.

You-ll miss the habit for about 2 weeks. Chew gum, drink lots of water. Then you-ll start to feel cleaner and better, and you-ll be proud to say, -I don-t smoke.-

Willpower!!! Here-s a star to get you started! Congratulations!!! You can do it! I know you can!! :)
Very hard, but possible. You have to want to quit. When my father quit about 20 years ago he said he had a trick that really helped him a lot. He said that whenever he had the urge to have a cigarette, he would change his thinking to something else. Think about something else, keep yourself busy, think about all of the positive results of quiting. I hope you succeed and have a healthy life! If you have any questions, feel free to email me anytime! Good luck =D
you can read the plenty of experiences and articles on the net to get yourself started..these will give you a pretty good idea on how to quit smoking..

It-s not easy to quit smoking immediately. However, why don-t you try to smoke fewer? For example, try to smoke 1 or 2 cigarettes for some time. Then try not to smoke it for some time. Hope you will be used to non-smoke.
this worked for me. only take money w u that u absulutly need ok. so u cant buy ur usual brand-tell ur family to not give u n e either. next buy some cigerrets that 1. make u sick. 2. doesnt satisfy u at all. i bought those nasty cigerrets that YOU h

I have quit smoking (about 3 weeks ago) and seem to get a bick sick pretty much every week now.

Is this because of the quitting or just a timing?
It is hard to say exactly, but it very hard to rule out quitting smoking as a cause for your sickness.

Your body may very well be adjusting to your new lifestyle. Like others have been saying you will get healthier but this doesn-t happen overnight. Smoking does decrease your immune systems capabilities. It is possibly just trying to kick itself back into full gear but has to weaken before it gets stronger.

There are no real negative side effects to quitting, only positive ones. The longer you have stayed smoke free the easier the quitting process becomes. You have made the right choice, believe you can quit and you will.

Good Luck and Good Quitting

I didn-t get ill, such as vomiting, but I did notice some changes in regards to my sinuses after quitting. I know it-s kind of gross, but I started getting bigger, and more boogers after about the first week of not smoking. I was also using Chantix to quit, so I don-t know if that has any effect on that. Not sure what kind of sickness you are referring to, but hopefully it-s just your body adjusting to not having toxins in your body. You could always place a call to your doctor to ask their advice. Good luck on your quitting endeavor!
It has nothing to do with quitting smoking. When you smoke your brain stops producing a chemical that you get from cigarettes, that is how they keep you hooked. I smoked for ten years. And when you quit, your body is deprived of that chemical completely and your brain has to relearn how to produce it. It doesn-t mess with your immune system, or anything. That is just coincedence.
I quite smoking about 6 years ago, after smoking 25 years. I didn-t have any problems at first, but the last year or two, I think about smoking more. You don-t think that smoking is depicted in movies and t.v. shows anymore, but it is. Movies, at least. And seeing quit smoking ads, only makes me sort of want one, but I know I can-t even have one. And the desire is not that strong.
Your body might be reacting to withdrawal and you feel sick, but I quit 2 years ago........
And haven-t had bronchitis in 2 freakin- years!!!

Wow.

I would get it 3-4 times a year, like clockwork.

Now, never.

Keep it up. You can do it. I did.

Just say to yourself, -I can-t smoke ever again. If I do, I-ll smoke forever.- And stick to it.

It may be related to your previous nicotine dependency. Withdrawals tend to overstress the body, making it more susceptible to infections. It-s your body-s way of telling you to give it more nicotine. Of course, your body doesn-t know right from wrong once it-s been hooked to cigarettes, so you continue to not smoke. Eventually your body will re-adapt to a non-smoking norm.
I think just bad timing....When you are smoking the tiny cilia in your upper airways don-t work as well. These are to help propel the secretions up and out of your airway. After you quit, the cilia start working again and will actually help prevent you from getting sick as much! Keep up the good work.....Also, wash your hands!!!best prevention from getting sick!
No but I did get cravings and kept every time I smelled or saw cigerattes I wanted one. I quit during a time when I was sick from a bad cold so I felt pretty rotten already. You might have just caught something and it is a coincident that you just stopped smoking.
If you are experiencing headaches/migrains, increased irritation, stomach irritation, then this could be from quitting, If you are experiencing coughing and flegm then you may have a respiratory infection which just happened to appear as you quit.
for some reason every time I stop smoking I feel like mid grade flu symptoms for about a month, then I feel better than even my best day of smoking. I believe its something to do with the nicotine withdrawal, a doctor would probably call it malaise.
You are suffering from withdraws. Your body is adjusting, just give it time. At least two months. Drink plenty of water and you will be fine.
I hope not. you suppose to be healthier (you-ll likely gain weight though). you may get sick through the transition process.
You get healthier after quitting smoking, are you eating and drinking healthy?
it may be psychological. you may be depressed or anxious more.
this can cause certain types of illness to come and go.
Perhaps it-s just your body adjusting to the fresh air and lack of toxins.
Quitting smoking should make you healthier.
Wow how did you quit?
yeah you do
when my cuz stopped it made her REALLY sick for bout the 1st month
well, you get depressed cause u loose all that nicatine.

How can I best encourage my kids as they try to quit smoking? -

My daughter and son-in-law have a new baby, and they are very careful not to smoke in the house or around her. But they have decided to quit cold-turkey and I am so proud of them! How can I help without bugging them?
Just be supportive :) Don-t call every day, but every other or every few days or so. When they say they-ve gone a whole day without a smoke, encourage them. If one of them has a little stumble and gives in to a craving, don-t admonish...just say you know it must be so hard and tell them to keep trying.

At this point, going on about the health risks of smoking are just going to be annoying. They know it and have heard it all already, or they wouldn-t bother trying to quit. And quitting can make a person grumpy, so you don-t want to make it harder on them.

If they-re having a hard day or the baby-s really fussy and it-s wearing them down, and if you live near by, offer to baby sit and give them an evening or afternoon off to relax.

You-re awesome for caring so much, and I hope it works out for them! And congratulations on being a new grandparent!
it may sound counter-intuitive, but stay away from the whole issue! Just don-t mention it unless they bring it up. Right now, they-re sitting on top of an emotional volcano. The tiniest thing, the tiniest stress will trigger cravings and I know from my own experience quitting that well-meaning people trying to help you with quitting can cause that little bit of stress. I-m not talking rational here -- I-m talking about stress so insignificant you normally don-t even notice it. Like (to use a realy example) suggesting a new doctor -- the little bit of uncertainty in choosing a new doctor can be more than you can handle. What they need from you right now is behavior that is calm, reassuring, and stress free. Wait until they fail (as they probably will -- sorry, but most do) to help. That-s when they-ll need encouragement. Tell them then about Chantix, and as second line treatments nicotine replacement therapy and Wellbutrin. It really is possible to quit now, if you-re serious about it and use the medications that are now available.
im not sure...i guess tell them that kids learn at an early age everything their parents do. and if they want their kid to turn out a smoker at such a young age then they have to live with it later. If kids see their parents smoking then they think its ok for them to do the same.

also tell them how they are damaging the baby lungs- passive smokin.
also tell them about the amount of kids that die due to blackened lungs.
whatever you do don-t bring up smoking or ask them how many days has it been. I hated that when I was trying to quit people were like OH when was your last cigarette and I had to think back on how great my last cigarette was then BAM here i am still smoking. Don-t nag or even say how proud you are cause they will think wow im doing good so now i can sneak a few in there
Just tell them you are proud of them and whatnot but do it subtly. Tell them stuff like now that they have their baby it-s good they stopped because they need to be around for all her life. And smoking causes cancer....Just tell em all that jazz.
Tell them that many smokers have had heart attacks even in their 20-s and even if they are otherwise fit and athletic.
find some pictures of people with mouth cancer etcetera that are abit gruesome and that may help!
They need help along the way. Check out www.freewebs.com/stopsmokingforever

Smoking is more of a psychological addiction than a physical one. If you really want to quit you must discover the reasons why you smoke and then eliminate or change these thought processes.

Once you deal with the psychological side of smoking it makes the quitting process easy, no matter your level of addiction.

Quitting smoking does not require any patches, gums, hypnosis or anything like that. These methods are expensive, time consuming and simply do not work. All that is required is a bit of motivation, self belief and determination.

Visit our site to join our inspirational 12 day e-course. You can also download our free book -36 Powerful Superfoods- to help fight weight gain and start mending damage caused by smoking. For more information and to post your opinion about the products you have tried, visit the following website.

Good Luck
the cigarette addiction is the hardest thing to quit. doctors say it is harder to quit that a heroin addiction. when i quit, i got a prescription for Zyban from my doctor -that helps control the psychological cravings, and then i used the nicotine patch -that helps control the physical cravings. and then i had a problem with what to do with my hands. so i fiddled with coffee stir sticks- it was just that i needed something in my hands to replace that cigarette. and then i also had to change my lifestyle- i quit hanging around with smokers- it was too hard. and i also quit going to places where there was smoking. after a while it all gets easier, and each day the cravings get less. the big trick is never, never take another drag off a cigarette, because then you will be smoking again. the addiction comes back real quick. good luck.
This is a proven way , but sad to say, you don-t hear much about it because, human nature being what it is, we all want the easy way out.
This is simple and works. Fasting. Go on a three day fast, no food , only water and NO smoking.

At the end of this fast you won-t feel like smoking again, especially when you light up the first cigarette, it is a habit you won-t want to start again
Drink plenty of water. Use cold and hot water to wash the taste out of your mouth for nicotine. Also eat plenty of fresh fruit. Chew a little gum when tempted to smoke, and GET RID OF THE CIGARETTES. You can also go cold turkey, or you can go gradual. Using the gradual plan, you cut down one cigarette a day until you get to none. This should take about a week or two. Then bathe your body in a hot shower daily to wash the nicotine out of your body. Continue drinking large quantities of water (8-10 glasses a day). Keep busy, and avoid going around smokers. Celebrate when you have gotten the Victory--- Yay!

HE HAS SMOKED FOR 27 YEARS AND I-VE SMOKED FOR 22 YEARS AND WE NEED HELP...THANKS IN ADVANCE.
have you tried the patch? it really helped richard and hes smoked for almost 68 years. you can also get hypnotized, get stop smoking music with subliminal messages in it, stop smoking cds that reinforce the idea that you shouldnt smoke. you can try the gum, many people use anti depressants along with patches as you make ciggies your best friend. just look on the web and read every site you can and just start trying things, anything is better than losing half a lung like richard did.
If you are really ready you will make it, im sure . there are so many websites out there, just put stop smoking into a web search and im sure you will find lots of free help for both of you, often it takes a combination of approaches. best wishes.

You don-t need a website, you need nicotine patches and some chewing gum. My father was a smoker and he quit by chewing gum everytime he felt the urge for a cigarette. Also, my mother was pregnant at the time so he had a motivation to quit for his children. Use your health as the motivation.

Good luck, I hope you quit successfully as soon as possible!
The only way that I have heard (from my mothers experience) was complete cold turkey. She was diagnosed with Macular Degeneration and smoking will speed up her going blind. I know she smoked for more than 30 years. I am so proud of her and You and your family will be so proud of you. Best of luck to you and your husband/wife. Prayer is always a good thing too.

Ex-smokers, what quot;uncommonquot; withdrawal symptoms you had experienced when quit smoking? -

Ex-smokers, what quot;uncommonquot; withdrawal symptoms you had experienced when quit smoking? -

Perhaps heart palpitations, tingling feeling in limbs, and flu like symptoms are few of them. What did you had last time when you quit and thought it was not common, such as palpitations or else?

Thanks in advance.
I asked around to a few of my friends, and two of them responded with -night terrors.- YIKES!
A few of them went through mood swings from nicotine withdrawal as well in addition to an increase in other crutches. My buddy Mikey started drinking a little bit more than we-re used to him seeing. It was kinda scary but he-s got it back under control. I guess you-re body just gets used to having a buzz on a pretty regular basis and just needs to get to that point if drinking and smoking were a regular occurrence. I don-t know if that-s the case with you but those are some of the fairly uncommon side effects from quitting.
It takes about a year for your body to work out all of the -kinks- from smoking and the ones that you listed happened to me too. I quit smoking last Thanksgiving and am just starting to feel halfway -normal- physically. I am not overweight or anything and have just started to stick to my regular exercise routine. Good luck ?
Hey Europa, how-s it been for ya?
I guess the biggest problem I had, (besides massive weight gain), was an evil mood. I know that-s not unusual, but I was a growling bear for 3 months. Literally.
I actually growled at people. Never even realized it until it was pointed out to me.
Embarrassing.
the longer I survived without smoking the more affected and sensitive I became to smoke in fact no longer able to as it makes me feel quite ill----like a bang to the head and a very queasy feeling in the stomach region
Nightmares? I don-t know if that-s uncommon though.

Any way to help my fiance quit smoking? -

I told my fiance before we were engaged that I would not marry a smoker. Now that we are engaged I hear him tell people that he needs to quit before we get married. Now there are 4 months left before the wedding, and he is still smoking a pack a day. He knows I am serious about this, and I know he does have a hard time quitting (he has tried twice in the past year).

I don-t know what to do and how to help him quit. I feel that if I nag I will make matters worse. I really want him to quit for selfish reasons, but I think they are reasonable. Every -older- person I know that has smoked their whole lives have had some sort of health disorder due to smoking. Three have had lung cancer, the other had two heart attacks. And I don-t want myself and our kids to have to deal with this in the future. I know I can-t tell what will happen, but this is something that is preventable!
I know this is selfish, but I want to spend the rest of my life with him.

Any suggestions on how to help?
he has to want to quit. he may quit for a while if you make him, but he will eventually start back up. the only way he will quit with success, is if HE wants it.
you wanting him to quit is not selfish it-s quite reasonable. there would be something wrong if it didn-t bother you. getting someone to quit smoking is like getting someone to change their diet, when and if it happens is totally up to them. if this is his first marriage then it-s probably the single most stressful period of his life as the wedding draws closer.
Nagging definitely does not work. But stick to your guns, girl. Don-t send out any invitations or sign any contracts until he is tobacco-free, even if it means canceling reservations. You might suggest that he go to a smoking-cessation clinic. Hypnosis and accupuncture work for some people. But you don-t want to be married to a smoker and have your kids grow up sick because of it and then have to watch the man you love die a horrible death when he-s still young. Anything but that!
I hate to be harshly honest with you but here goes...
You shouldn-t have accepted his proposal if you had issues with him smoking. Smokers NEVER quit for someone else. He has to want to quit, and want it bad for it to happen. You will not change him, you cannot change him. Your choices here are:

1. Stop naggin him, bugging him, making comments etc...about his smoking. He was a smoker when you met him and fell in love with him and got engaged with him so it was your choice to partner with a smoker. You have no right to force your opinions on him and it will only ruin your relationship if you try to make an issue about it. He knows you would rather he didn-t smoke, and if he decides to quit then he will, but nothing you say or do will have much of anything to do with it. If you want to spend the rest of your life with him then get used to the idea of spending the rest of your life with a smoker.

2. Walk away. There are plenty of non-smoking guys around that I-m sure you can fall in love with. Since you now know this is a huge issue with you, you can make it a point to not date smokers.

From reading your post, I think the second option is the one for you. You-ll get over him and probably be happier in the long run with a non-smoker
Nagging him will not make him quit this is for sure, it may only make him smoke more because he will be stressed out and as men when we are told we cannot do something we tend to want to do it more.

Help him out by getting a supplement and if you can find one get one that does not just substitute nicotine because this will defeat the purpose. Once he is off the supplement he will still crave the nicotine if it not something that is all natural.

Show him you are trying to help him by getting the supplement s for him this way he will know you are not nagging him but at the same time you are letting him know it is something that is important to you.

I quit smoking in December - what this mucus problem now? -

I quit smoking cold turkey in december (haven-t had even ONE since). everything was fine -- now the past month or so i have been getting a THICK (sorry gross!) clear mucus stuck in my throat and i have to cough it out (it-s like VERY thick phlegm) so thick sometimes I can barely get it to come out. what is this and does it have anything to do with smoking...no i don-t have a cold, am not sick.
Your Lung cilia (hairlike structure that moves sputum out of the breathing pipes) have regrown, increasing the ability to -clean- lungs and reducing the likelihood of infection. This is why you have mucus now- your lungs are self-cleaning but only when they aren-t being suffocated by smoke.
That-s your body trying to remove all of the crud left over from smoking. It will get better.
Yes,it is part of smoking. It will stop after a while, drink water.

It will help flush out your system.

Congratulations,stay strong.

What are some of the things that you have done to quit smoking? What has worked? What hasn-t worked?
Avoid some friends that can make you eager to smoke. You know having a friends, they can also shared bad influence to you .IF ever that you aren-t like to smoke but they forced you to smoke and you like it so that is our big problem and do something that can make you change of being addicted to smoke. Frankly speaking, the more you produce smokes the more the people breath through their lungs and it will cause some misery deserve to us . Try to do something .In the long run, you have to change it as soon as possible .Do make it long and lasting because the cigarettes contain 2000 chemical substance hat can destroy to your body system . I read about the visible solutions in smoking but i forgot .

i really want to quit, but so far nothing has helped.
Are you sure that you really want to quit?

What have you tried that hasn-t helped?

It-s a tough addiction - realizing you-re addicted and that it is damn difficult to quit is the first step. Are you there yet?

It usually takes several serious efforts and then several extended relapses before you quit for good - if you quit for good.

If you can-t quit via the usual means (cold turkey, NRT, Zyban) try the new Pfizer drug, Chantix. But make sure you really want to quit - otherwise you are wasting your time.

http://www.chantix.com

I smoked for more than 25 years, and I have been smokefree now, finally, for about 2-1/2+ years.
support classes and the patch and YOU realy have to want to,go to one of the quit smoking groups they really help
well i know someone who smoked and she stoped and she thrught them away and stped and we told her to
My father did cold turkey when he went into the hospital to have his appendix removed, but I don-t think you want to do that.

Find a support group, since going solo doesn-t seem to help. Keep a pack of gum to stick in your mouth instead of cigarrettes. If you know what triggers the urge to smoke, either avoid the situation that causes the said urge or grow a different habit.

Good luck!
I smoked for 5 years, so I can just imagine what you are going through. Best advice, pay attention to what causes you to smoke in the first place (what triggers it) and replace it with something else. I took deep breaths for 1 minute, even though you might look funny.. who cares? Its for your own good.

Good Luck :)
My mother was a heavy smoker. She went cold turkey. It is hard for the first couple hours, and then even harder for some time, but hard physical activity kept her mind off. It just takes sheer will.
I can-t remember who said it, but one of my favorite quotes is about smoking. -Quitting-s easy - I-ve done it a thousand times-.

Quitting permenantly is another story. I am a smoker. I don-t want to quit, but wish I wanted to quit. This is what I am doing in the mean time...
I don-t have the ultimate desire to quit, but want to be healthier so I-ve done a few things to help a bit.

1. I excercise more. Some studies say that those who smoke and excercise regularly are healthier than those who don-t smoke or excercise at all.
2. I take breaks from smoking. I know smoking is effecting my health when I become really tired for 3 or more days for no reason, my sinuses/allergies are acting up more than usual or I have a lot of trouble sleeping. I then take about three days off from smoking and feel better.
3. I drink a lot of water. This curves appetite as well as cigarrette cravings.
4. Keep busy as much as possible. When the mind is off of cigarrettes, the desire is gone. I don-t know about you, but the no smoking adds on television and on billboards everywhere are the worst things for me. They just remind me of the fact that I smoke and trigger the need.

Not sure if this is anywhere near Dr. recommended, but it may help a bit until you are completely ready and determined to quit - if that-s where you are at this time.
punch yourself in the face with a kidney but seriously just take it gradually those d@mn patches didn-t work for me iono about you though but try to stay off one cig per day for about a week then next week stay off another cig per day ok FOOL?

(stay off 1 cig off from your usual amount of cigs per day)
How do i quit smoking? -

I really need to quit smoking. Could anyone give some suggestions that worked for them.? -

I really need to quit smoking. Could anyone give some suggestions that worked for them.? -

I will read them all and take your advice seriously.
First you have to realize smoking is more mental then physical. 1. Decide 4 weeks in advance of a quitting day and stick to it. 2. Get rid of your lighter use matches instead, 3. Set up a place to smoke in one place only, 4. Change cigarettes down to a lower tar and nicotine,5. Do not have cigs with in easy reach, place them in a drawer 6. Put cig in opposite hand , change fingers too if necessary. 7. Do not light up that first cigarette until U R up for an hour and have had at least a slice of toast, then wait 15 minutes the first week after you have eaten to have a cig, then each week add fifiteen minute 8. During the day as you start having less and less nicotine, U will start feeling a little wrung out, drink 100% Pure Juice as a pick me up 9.after every healthy meal wait the times I have described above. 10.
when you decide to go to bed make sure you have your last cig and hour before you go. You my have to change you morning drink that You usually assoiciate with you cigs for a while if you can not, do not have them together, have either one first wait fifteen minutes and then have the other, but not together, You are tryin to break some old habits. The more you think about each cig the more you know when and why you choose to smoke it at that particuar time. If you can break the mental habits the easier it will be. The actual physical addiction is 3- to five days. Find things to keep you hands busy. As the weeks progress you will lengthen the time between each cigarettes from fifitem minutes,to half and hour to 45 minutes and then an hour. I want you to conciously write down each cig and the time you had it. By the time you are on your last week, you R more then ready. The day and night before your quit day smoke all you want and remember to follow the wait rules for the first cig of the day and after meals and bed time. On that last night get rid of ashtrays, matches and any left over cigs before you go to bed. Drink plenty of Bottles of water. You can do this. If you pray ask God to help. If you have any question or want to tell me your success story, e-mail me at charla1956@msn.com
Stop buying cigarettes!!!
I smoked for quite some time and tried about every remedy in the book. I found out after serious rationalization that my biggest problem was I did it because I was bored. It does relax you but like when I drove I had to smoke. I woke up and smoked to kinda get going, but if I had something immediately to do I would skip smoking until I was done. I struggle now with the occasional smoke but I am finding that if I psych myself out and keep myself busy it is working. Other than that spend the money and time on all th e-clinical- solutions. Mine was all in the act of doing it.
here some ways i heard and read :

1. Saying No. if you-re tempted keep saying no no no no until you are not temped anymore. if it helps you can shout .
2. ask for help. it-s would definitely easier if you have your friends / family member (who doesn-t smoke) to help you.
3 Save money. think about all the money you-ll have right now if you didnt smoke.
4.Exercise. doing exercise and other sports will help take your mind out from smoking. and it helps you get fit.
5.Pills. i heard there-s pills that can help you stop smoking.. i dont have much info about this. so get some info about it .
6.Do it for someone you love. if you have someone you love make him or her the reason why you are quitting.

well good luck ! hope it helped out !
I have heard of a patch called nicacure that has no nicotene in it. It is an all herbal formula that is supposed to trick the brain into believing its recieving nicotene. I heard it sgood but i have never tried it myself as i never smoked in my life.

http://www.nicocure.com/

i have seen a guy smoke for 15-20 years straight and quit cold turkey after the ear accu-puncture. He never started back up and the cravings were minimal. but dont forget to get some gum just in case.
I was a very heavy smoker for over ten years and I quit almost one year ago (July 17th!). The first thing I did was join a local smoking cessation class. They help you pick a good -quit date- and offer discounts on patches, gum, etc. It also helped that I was accountable to this group of peers every week. I decided to quit with the patch and I had a really positive expierence. It took the the edge off, but didn-t provide immediate gratification like the gum or lozenge would. If you go with the patch use it exactly as directed on the label. I can-t stress that enough. Statistics show the success rate is much higher when people stick to the recommended plan. I can-t remember how long I was on it, maybe 2 months. Quitting smoking wasn-t a pleasant experience and the first week was killer, but it kept getting easier and easier! The benefits to my health have been numerous (I had asthma) and I love the way I smell and feel. Mainly, I don-t feel like cigarettes control my life anymore. They sure used to. Give it a try - it-s well worth it. Good luck!!
I quit. But it wasn-t easy. 2 things ya gotta lick. Phy. and mental. 8 days and the phy is solved, hard but solved. But the rush that the mental gives you needs to happen in your dreams. I was still smoking in my dreams 3 months after I-d quit. Until I quit in my dreams, I still had the cravings. Then once I did, just like that I didn-t want one ever again.
Will power and determination.
Hello! I used to smoke very heavily. After trying all sorts of things I was able to give up using Self Hypnosis.I have a book called -Secrets of Self Hypnosis by Gilbert Oakley. In this book there are a number of exercises. My Spirit Guide Dr. Chang helped me.I would relax and repeat in my mind--Every time I feel like lighting up a cigarette, I will feel sick-. I did this over and over, and over.I didn-t think it had worked. That evening I was singing at the local club. I went in and in a moment or two in all that smoky atmosphere I felt really ill.I couldn-t stay anywhere that was smoky. That was 20 years ago. I neither smoke nor drink alcohol. But with any auto suggestion,youv-e got to really want to.Good Luck!
Cold turkey is the best way. Just toss -em and don-t get any more. That-s what I did. After a couple weeks I couldn-t even stand the smell of them anymore. It was worth the two weeks to get my life back.
Contact the Quitline and join a Quit Smoking Clinic.
You just have to make up your mind not to smoke and realize how much you dislike it and how much better you will feel once you quit. It has been 20 yrs since my last cigarette and I never looked back, good luck
I-ve tried several times in the past to quit, but my husband was also a smoker and having cigarettes around the house was just too big a hurtle. Last Labor Day weekend, he had a heart attack and that finally got his attention. We have been off cigarettes for 10 months. The patch helped us a lot. Getting started is hard, but you can do this. It-s hard to notice the benefits at the start, but they are there. You may not have had the heart attack yet, but treat yourself as if you are in recovery. It gets easier to breathe, you don-t stink from cigarette smoke, and you-ll have more money once you aren-t buying cigarettes anymore. There are a couple of things that happen that may surprise you. One is dreaming about cigarettes and smoking. The other is getting through the initial quitting period and hitting a day where you really want a cigarette. Keep a couple of nicotine patches in your desk for those occasions. Most times using the patch for one day is enough to get past the temptation. Good luck with your efforts. I wish you well

i have a 3 yr old daughter and i would like to live to see her grow up. as much as my thoughts tell me that i HAVE to quit, i can-t seem to do it. Any suggestions.....HELP!
This is from Stephen King-s, Quitters Inc.

You pay these mob-type guys to moniter you secretly. If you smoke once, they hurt someone in your family. If you smoke a second time, they kill someone in your family. The third time they kill you. It-s guaranteed to work or your money back.
I have never smoked by I saw an ad on TV the other day for a free trial of one of three brands of nicotine support tablets/patches. It was part of a government effort to help people.

I would suggest you call your local health department. They may have smoking programs or medicine you can access for free. I have heard that it is easier to quit if you have a support group of friends or other smokers to help and encourage you. I would also try to exercise to prevent weight gain, which may occur when you quit.

You are taking the first step. Congratulations.

Here-s a list of stop smoking clinics in the US

The Nicatrol Inhaler is the best in my point of view. I tried the patch it helped a little but it made my skin raw as I have sensitive skin. I tried the gun (nasty) When my Dr. put me on the quit smoking pill I was allergic to it. My Dr. then prescribed the inhaler. It was great! You put these little nicotine cartridge-s into the mouth piece, You draw into your lungs and hold like you are smoking. One of the hardest parts of quiting smoking is the hand to mouth thing.I reduced slowly the amount of nicotine I put into the mouth piece. After I was free from nicotine altogether I kept an empty mouth piece to mimic smoking. One of the hardest parts of giving up smoking is the hand to mouth routine we become used to.You know like with coffee in the morning, when the phone rings, putting on your make-up.Playing cards, after meals. You can even use these in non-smoking restaurants! I smoked for 32 years and I didn-t think I could ever quit smoking. I have been smoke free sense July 9TH 2000! I still grave a cigarette every once in a while but the desire soon passes..You will always need will power. There is no 100% take away the desire way to quit smoking.Good luck I know you can do it if you have really made up your mind to quit.Welcome to the non-smokers club.
The only thing that worked for me was will power. i had tried to quit hundreds of times before but it never worked because i never really wanted to. it-s really hard to stay focussed but every time i felt like a ciggerette i tried to picture something really horrible, like being in hospital with cancer, or being told i could never have children because i smoked. it might sound extreme but i-v not had a cig now for a year, so just stay strong and you-ll get there.
U have to strengthen ur determination.
Try chewing gum.
But the thing that will help would be only ur determination.
Best of luck
I quit smoking almost 5 years ago....I just quit cold turkey. It wasn-t as hard as I thought would be once I got past the first week. You have to really want to quit, otherwise it will not work. You cannot be quitting for someone else, YOU have to do it for YOU. I ate a lot of mints...whenever I wanted a ciggy, I ate a mint...gave my mouth something else to do. A friend of mine who quit would go walk whenever he wanted a ciggy. He stayed in better shape than I did. I gained some weight, but figured that weighing a little more was better than smoking. My husband quit smoking as well...cold turkey is the only way that worked for him. He tried the nicotine patch and the nicotine gum, but those are addictive as well...works for some people, but not many.
I started smoking for a very stupid reason. when i was in college some guy was smoking next to me. Stupid me thought i would try one and that would be that. Boy was i wrong. i came home for Christmas and my dad warned me that i would get addicted. I just did not listen. I have smoked on and off for the past 9 years. My doc gave me a new drug called chantix. you keep smoking while you take the first pack of of the drug (i think its 10 days) and than you stop smoking, but keep taking the pills until you are ready to stop. My advice for those who smoke or are thinking about it. DONT even have one cig.. once you do you are hooked and for those who already do smoke. STOP. i know its easier said than done, but you will feel better, you will smell better and most of all..you will live lot longer.
Try cutting back slowly. Arrange certain times of the day you can smoke. If you have urges throughout the -non-smoking time- use your will power. Gradually cut back on the smokes you do have during your -smoking times-. Before you know it you will be smoking very little and quitting will be much easier. Good luck.
There was a best selling book in the UK and some celebrities swear by it on talk shows. I believe it-s called Stop Smoking Forever or something like that.
straight to the point........if you don-t want :
*.your daughter to grow up without a mom
*.to witness emphysema or some other type of horrible condition
*.cancer
*.or even a horrible death of her mother
then you will quit! There is no reason to continue...but there sure are many reasons why you should quit.
(my mother in law died from smoking and it was horrible! I not only seen what she went through, but what the family endured...it was nothing more than needless suffering..(I also witnessed her death and you don-t want that!) ...think about it Nikki you owe it to yourself and to your baby girl....when you do quit it-s all or nothing...cold turkey and lots of tylenol for the headaches (my husband quit after he seen his mom...it was hard but he knew the alternative)
I recently quit using Chantix and would recommend it for everyone. I will never go back to smoking. Its great your thinking about child too because she is getting lung disease the same as you are only involuntarily. I wish you alot of luck with this. I wish i would-ve have quit when my kids were little. I caused them asthma from my smoking! Please do it for her if not for yourself!! Good Luck!!!
Willpower.

What you have to do, is decide to NOT smoke another cigarette today.

If and When you slip, decide to NOT smoke another cigarette today. Continue telling yourself this until you go to sleep

The next morning do it again. Each time you slip, Tell yourself that you will not have another cigarette today.

Eventually, you will make it through an entire day without smoking. Congratulations!

Now do it again.

Then do it again.

Keep doing it; every day when you wake up, tell yourself that you will not smoke today.

You will have slip-ups, but then the cigarette will taste like crap! Just keep repeating the pattern of self control.

I have been sucessfully telling myself this since 1989. Before that, I smoked for almost 20 years.

Good Luck.

What is the best way to QUIT SMOKING? -

I have smoked for many years now. I-m already overweight, so I wanted to find out what was the best way to quit smoking for sure. I didn-t want to gain anymore weight by quitting smoking, and wanted to quit for sure now.

Does anyone have any good suggestions that could help me quit forever?

SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY PLEASE....
There you go for more info :

Good luck !
My husband quit cold turkey about 8 years ago. He chewed regular sugar free gum and sucked on hard candy. If you think you need help to quit then talk to your doc about this.
stop 1 cig. a week- its painless, take up knitting or other hand stuff
Every person is different, I drink a full glass of water every time I feel the urge. Find out how long the sensation lasts (of wanting to smoke), believe it or not, it-s only about 30-60 seconds. It increases a little and comes more often over time.
Statistics say that the best way is just going COLD TURKEY.
Hypnotherapy...

I am serious, use hypnotherapy to back up the process of quitting. You may need two or three visits but I have heard this helps greatly. Then you may want to try the nicotine patches or gum along with his to keep your aggresion down through the withdrawal from smoking.
Cold turkey. Carry chewing gum.
It gets easier every .........week that you are smoke-free.
Believe me - it-s well worth using up all the will power you will ever have.
I-m not noted for MY will power so if I could do it - anybody can.
The best thing way is through realization. You have to realize for yourself all of the bad things that smoking has brought into your life. Seriously, that tight feeling in your chest? That-s not normal..
And go take a look at your tongue, see little dark dots on the side? Yeah those are from cigarettes for sure. And your teeth are looking just as terrible. And no, that cough is not normal. Once you face these things, quitting will come naturally.
Welcome to the club. I recently quit smoking like 3 months ago, uptill now I am strong in my resolve. The reason being I am 40 and think its high time I quit smoking before getting into serious health trouble.

I am using a combination of hypnosis and natural remedy (Crave-RX) to quit. Hynosis works at the subconscious level to eliminate the triggers that cause us to smoke and Crave-RX is good reduce nicotine craving and suppress withdrawal symptoms. I am not overweight so not worried about gaining weight.

The good thing about Crave-RX is it will also help to prevent the sugar cravings and compensatory overeating which often cause people to go back to cigarettes due to unwanted weight gain.

For detailed info on hypnosis and natural remedies go the following website.
Altoids or hot tamales
Honestly, you just have to believe you can and resist temptation, that-s how I did it. I started jogging and that helped. Other than that, I can tell you the gum, patches and other ideas didn-t help me, I helped me.
The patch worked for me. Depending how much you smoke will determine if you should use the 21mg, 14 mg or the 7mg patch. You apply the patch daily for 2 weeks, then move on to the lower dose for another 2 weeks. I was able to use the patch for one week and then move to the lower dose. You can even try the store brand of the patch, it works just as well.
Well I can-t say I know a true way to quit. I-ve heard people doing everything. I have had a few friends who were heavy set and smoked frequently. The way they all seemed to quit was to be more active. Started going to the gym and running/ bike riding. They are all very healthy now and havent smoked for a long time. They said that every time they craved a cigarette they would do some sort of Cardio activity. You could also try the patch while doing this. The gum as well when you crave a cigarette chew nicorette or any gum. Find something to take the place of the cigarette. I honestly believe its majority of a habbit problem. I mean the nicotine is addicting etc. But I think most people smoke after smokeing a long time can-t quit because they have done it so long. Smoking causes a loss in apetite so don-t decide since you stopped smoking to eat alot more because thats a problem I have seen. Quittings different for everyone you-ll probably have attempted several different things before you can finally find what works for you. Just get out and try if you really want to quit you can. Good Luck to you!
a. smoking patches

b. every time u have a craving for one just take out the ciggarette and lighter and just fiddle aro;und with it untill the craving goes away. it is a mind trick and ino sumone who has tried it and sais they like it.
The only serious way to quit is COLD TURKEY. That is the way I quit after 22 years. And I have been off of cigarettes for 20 years now and I still want one. Any one that says that they don-t miss them is a liar.
All the above answers I would recommend, plus constantly hanging out with friends/family who DON-T smoke. Especially if they know you-re trying to quit, they-ll definitely watch out for you.

Any advice on how to quit smoking? -

I want to quit smoking but so far I have failed many times. I have tried the patch, which makes me break out, the gum, which did nothing at all and cold turkey which drove me crazy.
So I could use some advice.
Thanks!
wow Kathleen..

you sound like me, but i figure your not as old.. i smoked for over 40 years.. and tried virtually evey way to quit.. cold turkey, medications, and all the nicotine replacement products.. and always ended up picking up!!

the good news is that i now have over 5 years nicotine free.. i am sure , to my involvement in a support group.. i found out that i was not alone in my experience, and folks with a worse track record had in fact kicked the habit.. the fellowship of a group of people who had already overcome the addiction, as well as folks i could -quit buddy- with other new comers, was a liberating experience..

i attend nicotine anonymous meetings both locally and on the internet.. meetings are available in many areas, as well as voice meetings available on your computer.. you are welcome meetings smoking or not!!.. good luck on your quit!!! in the end there is nor wrong way to quit...

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.
I to have tried everything, but Cold turkey is best. First make sure your ready to quit, then remove all ash trays from your house. Stay out of bars, and no heavy drinking at home. lastly understand that smoking is a reward thing. You do good you smoke. Had a bad day you smoke. Feel good about yourself you smoke. You must replace your reward, and you must find a new habit that you can do all the time. Myself I used this method and it worked I used puzzles and I started jogging. At first the puzzles drove me nuts and the jogging sucked, but after a while about a month I got better at both and really started to look forward to my puzzles and jogging they became my new high and I loved it. Now for the honesty part I went 6 months doing this then my lover left me after 3 years and I fell apart and started smoking again. As soon as I-m ready I will try it again. The method works it was me that failed. Good luck let me now if it works for you as well as it did for me.
As an Ex smoker who has quit in the past year. I recommend just quit... I woke up one morning and told myself that I was not a smoker. I think the trick (if you can call it that) for me was not that I was quitting smoking but that I was a NON smoker. IE: I did not quit I just don-t smoke. The thing is YOU have to be ready to quit. You cannot quit for someone else it has to be for you. If you are not 100% committed to not smoking nothing you do will -make- you quit.
Well as an ex-smoker herewith all the advice:

You must really WANT to give up. Attune your mind to it and simply go cold turkey.

It takes a week before you stop thinking about it - and about 28 days to break the habit completely

Don-t buy any and then you won-t be tempted.

Change your habits - when do you tend to smoke - ie at night when you-re having a drink? then change this

Patches
Gum
Acupuncture
Substitute it with a ANOTHER habit - go out jogging
Visit the respiratory hospital ward - it-s scary

BE STRONG!!
If you’re trying to beat your smoking habit on your own, you may be struggling with the right method which will work for you. Smoking dried herbs can be an ingenious way to relieve nicotine withdrawal symptoms as well as wean a smoker off of cigarettes. Herbs can be smoked just like cigarettes. One must be extremely careful when dabbling in the world of smoking herbs, however, there are many herbs which are harmless and can be smoked not only to replace the tobacco cigarette habit, but also to help clear the lungs and body of the affects of cigarettes.
Yes, you shouldn-t have started in the first place.

Use a basic psychology learning technique. It involves you recieving an unpleasant stimulus whenever you pick up a cigarette. You be the person who decides what the stimulus is.

I don-t know how well this method works when the person inflicts the stimulus upon themselves, but it makes sense. Also, you need the will to inflict this kind of stimulus upon yourself.

You could try hypno-therapy; I personally don-t trust hypno-therapists.
first put the cancer stick down
Try chewing some gum everytime you have the urge to smoke. And be sure to drink water it will take some of the tempting taste out of your mouth. when ever you see someone smoking just turn away. my granpa use to smoke but he tried to chew gum and it works now he chews double mint everyday i think he-s addicted now.
I heard of a new drug you can get a perscription for. its called chantix, but i heard there are a lot of side effects. talk to your doctor about it. I know some people who have tried it and it has work wonders for them. GOOD LUCK!!!

Has anyone tried Wellbutrin to quit smoking? -

My husband-s dr. gave him the RX, but he is really worried about it. He-s never taken an anti-depressant, and he-s afraid he-ll become a different person. What can he expect, and will it really help him to quit?
I took it for a few years with no effect really , it didn-t help me quit smoking . I hope it helps your husband quit , the smoking ruined my lungs nearly completely . I think cold turkey works best but it-s incredibly difficult . Good luck to him I hope he can quit , Tell him to remind himself that no one has ever died from stopping smoking .
Yes it does help very well,i was on it and i got bad headaches and felt really alive but couldnt sleep.I stoped taking it because of the headaches
I took Zyban, which I-m told is the same. Later, I had a doc give me Prozac . Neither caused a personality change. If he wants to quit and will follow the program it will work for him.

Prozac is prescribed to combat Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, which is why many of us smoke.
My doctor gave it to me to help quit smoking but he said the only reason he gave it to me is because my insurance does not pay for the patch or other remedies to quit. He said it would help calm my nerves while trying to stop. I took it for a while but it did nothing to stop me from smoking. As a matter of fact it didn-t do anything at all.
wellbutrin is mainly prescribed as an anti-depressant, not quitting smoking, however, unless your husband is depressed, i would suggest he try another method.....why take a medication for one thing when his issue is smoking
You are more restless, don-t get as much sleep and it helps cut the craving. But the way I finally quit was to just stop buying and bumming them.
I tried it and all it did was make me shake, It didn-t help me stop smoking..
yes and it didnt work for me
just gave me bad headches
and cotton mouth
didn-t help with my smoking, and basically just made me tired and sluggish for about three weeks.....asked my doc to take me off it. Do not try to just to stop taking it. i turned into a maniac.
My sister and dad tried it, both without success. Patches and gum worked much better. Personally I would not try it, if he really wants to quit he can do it without Wellbutrin and its side effects. (which are numerous)
I was on it for 2 weeks and I couldn-t take it any more, it drove me nuts! One minute I was foggy, the next I would have a temper tantrum over any little thing or crying over nothing. The moods were so drastic and I was nausious most of the time. It made me smoke more since I was all over the place with my temperment. I-ve taken other antidepression meds but this was the worse. If your husband acts different it-s not his fault it-s the Wellbutrin talking.

I am a pothead tyring to quit smoking weed and i have a question; whats better about life without pot? -

You will save up lots of money that you otherwise would have just put into your bowl and smoked!

You won-t have to hide or lie about being a pothead anymore.

Your lungs will be healthier.

You-ll be forced to find new things to do with your time to entertain yourself, which means you will discover new hobbies and fun things to do.
One of the benefits to not smoking weed is the ability to feel and not zone out. When you start to feel good and your self esteem increases - you will make a lot healthier choices about life in general. It is the THC in marajuana that affects the brain and the cells of the body. Heavy use affects short term memory and damages the lungs very badly. You will have an opportunity to see who you really are with a chemical free life. Good luck. You can wean yourself off slowly or if you cannot stop - go to a substance abuse counselor for help.
hmm life with out pot. well there are so manythings many of them small really but they mean allot so heres the list
1 more money
2 dont have to worry about your dealer dryin out and goin to another source ya know your extra dealer just in case
3 you dont have to worry about getting pulled over and paying a fine or going to jail for contrabane, possion or intent to sell
4 you dont have to worry about who ever your hangin out with gettin busted and you gettin busted to
5 you wont have the munchies as often
6 you can get a better job because you can pass a drug test
7 a better physical look
8your head wont be as clouded and you wont be all duh
theres allot of benefits but theres things you may have to give up wether you relize it or not. you may have to even loose some of you r friends. basically walk away. its depends on you both if theyll let you quite then its cool if not then you have to walk. when quiting youll go threw withdrawl just like n e thing else you quite. its the drying out process. so if its something you really want to do then do it. but it may not be easy. its not the worse drugs to quite so be happy aboutthat and good luck.
OK, Well, This is a really fast guess but, I would have to say everything is better without weed.

And, Just to let you know it-s not addicting.
It-s just your brain telling you that it is.

Well, As you see if you were smoking because if stress or whatever,Then when the high goes away, your left with the same problems that you had in the first place, I guess people get so used to running away from there problem that they think that the weed is the thing that-s addicting, But what they are addicted to is running away from all of the problems, and that-s what you have to get used to the most, is facing your fears and being sober and working through the things that are bothering you.
Your actual life :D

Well, first off, you-d have less debts,
Second, you-d feel healthier (provided you make the extra effort)
Third, you-re less likely to die of cancer anytime soon
Fourth, You wont have as much mood swings
Fifth, You-d be healthier, mentally.
Studies show that there is no connection between marijuana and cancer.
But if you give it up, your memory, especially short term will improve. Find something better to lift you up.
these answers are ridiculous. -no debt!- yeah as if you-re a heroin addict or something. jesus christ people, you don-t have to take out a damn loan to get a dimebag!
The fact that you can live your life outside of a prison cell.
ummm, for one, your healthier.

people will also respect you more, if that means anything to you.

How can I get my mom to quit smoking? (please provide how to convince her, and the ways she can)...? -

My mom has been smoking since she was young and I keep telling her she should quit. She always says that she will and that she know she needs to and she will soon, but I have never seen her try to quit in the 16 years I-ve lived. What can I do to convince her? I was thinking about printing out information about different ways to quit, but I have no idea where to start. Could someone help me out with that too? Please, help me if you can.
I totally can relate to you.I lost my mother when I was only 24 years old because of smoking. She suffered so badly. It is a terrible way to die.She went from a vibrant 125 pound women to a 63 pound skeleton within 2 months. You do not want your mother to end up that way.I used to smoke too and when i watched my mom fade away i quit and never started again.Tell your mother to please try anything and everything to try to quit now I did it cold turkey and i was a heavy smoker. You really don-t need to light up a cigarette its only in your head.I haven-t smoked in over 9 years and feel so much healthier and better.Show your mom my answer and if you can search on line try to find some graphic photos of people damaged lungs due to smoking maybe if she sees it right in front of her she will hopefully think twice before lighting up one of those cancer sticks again. Also there may be a hospital in your area that has patients who are dying of lung cancer you should see if you can go visit them to put your mom face to face with the fact of how smoking cigarettes can really kill you.Second hand smoke is really bad for you so she is hurting both of you!!!
Don-t give up on her.Good Luck - God Bless.
ok first talk to her about smoking then ask her howd she feel if you smoked .... then show her some pictures of lungs with cancer and stuff and ppl with lung cancer frm smoking ...then tell her you want her to see your kids grow up make her emo and the what not

by the way working out helps you quit smoking..
My mother used to smoke. She quit and she-s in better shape than she ever was in her entire life. She goes to the gym all the time. She could not walk up hills with me without running out of breath. Now she-s in better shape than I am and she-s turning 60 this year!

Quit Smoking - Any herbal helpers? -

I have a friend that is trying to quit smoking for good...I was wondering if there were any herbs that can help.
Nope but there is vaporizers
popcorn maybe try gum.
st johns wart works I hear but it makes you hungry
No, but you could tell her to give me all her money, so she won-t be able to buy cigarettes. That should do it. :)

My mom quit with gum.
She was a smoker for 5 years, and she hasn-t touched one in about 12 years now.
To give up smoking is quite easy. I have done it a hundred times. But seriously the urge to smoking can be controlled by drinking green tea or water whenever the urge arises. Chewing gum also helps.

There are many other ways. The American Cancer Society offers a Guide to Quitting Smoking.
This is going to sound a little strange....I-m well aware....

1) Kava Kava tea - to -take the edge off- - because you are irritable as heck when you stop
2) Psyilium (the stuff in metamucil) - because wwith drawlmakes many people constipated
3) something to help you sleep - benedryl or an herbal supplement that contains valerian, or hops, or passion flower - because for some reason you get sleepy as heck during the day (see #4) and can-t sleep at night
4) green tea, or coffee - in small doses - because withdrawl makes you sleepy during the day. If this person has been using a source of caffiene all along, she will need much smaller doses - nicotine blocks caffiene uptake (and vice versa, which is why people who do both tend to do both heavily) - so a smaller dose will give her a bigger boost.

Lots of folks suggest the herb lobelia for cravings - because tobacco is a member of the lobelia family...never did a darned thing for me or most the people who I sold it to....

Good Luck - and to use the phrase of the American Lung Society - -Dont quit quitting- - the average person has to -quit- eleven times before they -quit- for good.

May you have a New Year with comfort, laughter and joy
Tink
I-ve tried just about every method there is out there and there is only one I can recommend - NLP! It eliminates the cravings.
Gum patches and all the other just did not cut it for me, not to mention cold turkey which was the hardest, I even tried the electric cig and it is just no match to the real thing.

it’s the one that got me off the cigs and smoke free for GOOD even without gaining weight! :)

Good luck kicking the habit!

There are countless herbs that can be used to confuse your subconscious to believe you are smoking tobacco. Unfortunately however, there are no herbs that have medicinal value in effectively treating nicotine withdrawal, as far as I know. Like any other withdrawal stage, the best thing you can do is use lower and lower doses of the substance over an extended period of time. In other words, start by limiting your friend to 3 cigarettes a day for a week. As every new week comes to be, reduce his/her limit to one less than the previous week. After 1 a day is reached, the next week limit to 1 a day every second day, and the system goes on.. To avoid relapse, it-s best if you or someone else that knows your friend should buy the cigarettes for your friend, as to prevent them from taking more than they are supposed to be smoking.
Marijuana is famous for its many redeeming qualities. One of them is that Marijuana can be a great tool for people who are quitting nicotine. It has no habit forming qualities and takes the edge off of the nicotine craving.
Although, it is illegal...
Not herbal medicines, but something that treats the underlying need to smoke.

100% money-back guaranteed - Think Quit. This is a 7-day preparation program to quit on day 8, with ongoing help. The man who developed the program also has Think Slim, also 100% money-back guarantee. The website is completely up front and gives you all the information you could want.

Both programs are getting rave reviews. (see website below)

I-d like to say that I completed the program, but I had a major accident that interrupted and forced me to give up. However, the lady I sold it to let me know that it worked brilliantly for her.

What are some great inexpensive ways to quit smoking aside from cold turkey? -

What are some great inexpensive ways to quit smoking aside from cold turkey? -

Ive only been smoking for two years, and I would like to quit... its very hard to stop this nasty habit, Anyone have any suggestions/methods on how to quite without quitting cold turkey, or using the patch? Its way to expensive for me...
But smoking has become my biggest addiction. Im tired of spending the money on cigarrettes and polluting my body...also what can I do to get my husband to stop smoking or atleast stop smoking around me once I quit because he is hard headed..because I know if he smokes it will be to easy to give in to temptation...
I would try to ween yourself off of them. That way you can gradually get less and less nicotine in your system and your cravings will subside. I started by only letting myself smoke after work or on weekends, then gradually I got down to 2 a day, one a day, every other day until I really didn-t feel the urge any more. The hardest part was if I had a drink, and yes I slipped a few times, but for me it never was the same after I quit. I did have the support of my husband though. Good luck to you, I have been 6.5 years without a ciggarette, and I started at 15 smoked for 6 years!
if your husband smokes inside your house make him go outside, chew gum, keep yourself busy its easier to quit in the winter make your self go outside and smoke and that way you wont want to. its very hard. im pregnate and still smoke ive been smoking for 6 years and ive quit 3 or 4 times.
pregnacy helps lol. the smell of it makes you sick for a while
Lots of stores now have cheap patches, even walmart, at least for the first week or two they-re really good. Just for a few months take every penny that you would have spent on cigarettes and buy frivolous stuff for yourself. Bubble bath and toenail polish and cappuccino coffees. Think of all the losers that you know that quit smoking, you re way better than them, right? Best of luck and I-ll be thinking good thoughts to you and wishing you worlds of success.
its come to my attention that you can talk to your local health department about getting FREE patches to quit. all it takes is a little patience to get through it. as for your hubby, ask him to join you in quiting smoking, for your health and his. you really have the right frame of mind to quit. i wish you and your husband all the best!
i tried everything to give up and i have smoked since i was 13 and I-m 40 now. the only thing that has worked for me is cold turkey, i tried patches, gum and hypnosis and none worked (or worked for very long)
i have now been smoke free for 2 years and went cold turkey this time the first couple of weeks was tough but if you can find a friend to quit with it helps
My partner smokes too, but i managed to quit. It did make it harder having him smoking around me but on the other hand u haven-t really quit until u can handle being around other smokers n not have one. U will still want one even after u-ve quit though. I quit going on 3 years ago now n my lungs feel great, same as the rest of me but i still think about having -just one- occassionally n i-ve been tempted to the point i-ve had 1 in my mouth ready to light but i stopped. Just the thought of how much better everything smells n tastes now. My perfumes actually smell right now, u know. When i first quit i used a herbal smoke the tobacconist showed me, there are a few types on the market. I gotta admit they tasted a lil funky n smelt like i was smoking tea leaves but they relieved the need for -hand to mouth- habit. Thats what i found the hardest to get over: once u-ve gotten past the physical cravings for the chemicals, its the habit thats the hardest to kick. U-ll find urself with alot of spare time that u used to smoke in and with ur partner still smoking n probably a few friends too, u tend to feel a lil left out. They are all outside smoking n talking as per usual n u either have to sit with em n withstand watching everyone else smoking or stay away. It sux at first but try making everyone smoke outside that way at least when the weather turns cold, its u who has the desirable spot, not shivering ur bits off outside in the cold! When its warm though, if its safe, when u reallly get itchy for a smoke n u think ur gonna give in, go for a run or a swim or some physical activity u enjoy. U-ll feel better afterwards, u-ll have amused ur brain until the craving went away n if u try using physical activity as ur -distracter- then u avoid the weight gain some people experience when they quit. Which by the way, is because most use food as their -distractor-. Good luck, i hope u succeed, but even if u give in n have to try to quit a few times, its not a failure! its another lesson closer to success!
suck on a jolly rancher whenever you feel like you need to smoke.and chew lots of gum.it worked for a guy on my football team.so yeah

i wish you the best of luck
I quit smoking by smoking menthol cig-s. The reason was because I was always at the bar drinking and when I drank I would smoke. By smoking only menthol I wouldn-t be able to bum cig-s from anyone else. On top of that no one would bum them from you b/c the majority of people think they are gross. It may take a week or so for you to get used to the menthol taste, but eventually it-s not bad and for whatever reason it was much easier for me to quit. I didn-t have as bad of cravings with them.
i used the skoal bandits for the nicotine and then gave them up every day add a bandit and smoke less cogs then as the bandits out number the cigs down spiral all of them to a stop in 30 days i went from 3 to 4 packs to zero in 1983 ,, when in the army i paid about 2.50 a carton for marlnoros and when home a said i wouildnt pay
I stopped smoking 2 years ago, after smoking 2-3 packs a day for 27 YEARS.
I went cold turkey, and I firmly believe it is the best way to go. No cost to you--a huge savings, in fact! Keep a lot of gum, hard candy, and celery - carrots around for the oral addiction, and get some little wire tavern puzzles, click-pens, or worry stones for the hand thing. Good luck to you---save the money - reward yourselves with a vacation!
Personally, I quite cold turkey but not everyone can do that. Try chewing gum or holding a pen in your hand. Keep yourself busy so that you-re not as likely to think about having a cigarette. Finding a hobby to take the place of your habit would be rewarding.

Once you-ve made the choice to not smoke, politely ask your husband to respect your decision not to smoke and have him smoke outside. He will probably smoke less if he has to smoke outside and you won-t be tempted by his 2nd hand smoke.

I have to give you a lot of credit for asking for suggestions and trying to go it alone when it comes to quitting. You can do it, don-t give up!! ;)
Cold Turkey is the only way to go....But you have to plan the date and stick to it........I gave myself two months planning.....that is 8 weeks right?, plenty of time.......b/4 my date of stopping, I worked my way up to it.............It worked like a charm...................I liked my cigarette with my coffee, after a meal, while talking on the phone, when I was with my friends out for an evening or just getting together, while reading the paper,,,,,, in other words, I smoked 1 1/2 pks a day...many years...........
The first day of my plan, I smoked my cig after I ate.......did not have another one for an hour............had a cup of coffee with it........next hour had one talking on the phone., when cig gone, i hung up....next one I had while i relaxed and read some paper,
I did this hourly cigarette thing for 3 full weeks......sometimes I forgot b/cause I was busy doing something, so I waited until the next hour( I did it on the hour) easier that way....... workde real good....Forgot a lot because i kept busy doing things...
On the 4th week, I would not have one for 3 hours...worked good also.......and sometimes when I wanted one badly and almost grabbed one, I would stop myselt and do 10 sit-ups as a punishment......after a few times this worked also......(my abs were looking better) 5th week I would go 4 hours apart...6th week 1 cigarette every 6 hours...By this point in time, I felt light headed when I would have one, so didn-t want one as much...Didn-t think about them hardly at all...I would also start coughing sometimes too. At the end of 8 weeks I was no longer smoking and so proud.....,,....I did crave one every other day for a long time, but the thought went away quickly once I folded clothes or something.
I tried years b/4 but this time I planned it out well and it worked for me...............Also, I bought those pretend cigarettes after I quit, and I would hold them like I was smoking after I ate, and when I wanted one and I even puffed on it at times(just don-t light)
It was one of the hardest/yet easier once I had a plan, things I have ever done....Now I have a plan for my weight......Good Luck to You.............Make a plan.........sorry this was so long, but it had to be...............
the patch is not too expensive, sometimes your health provider has free programs, my insurance did. there are also support groups in your area.
just try...if i could quit ******* heroin and crack cold turkey...i think you could quit cigaretts
I would suggest you go to a hospital and ask to see pictures of what lungs of smokers look. If you don’t want to go to a hospital, go to a dentist and ask them to show you pictures of a smoker’s teeth. A picture says a thousand words and if you have love for yourself, you wouldn’t want to have either one.
you can-t make some one else quit smoking however i found if i cut a straw to the size of a cig. and inhale just like a cig. it helped the cravings. good luck
there are none. just quit. people who i-ve thought were sucking smoke for life have done it. cold turkey. as for your husband explain your feelings and all about secondhand smoke. if he cares at all he will at least smoke outside. how about a wager with him for some nice reward? nothing to lose but a disgusting habit. I smoked for many years and couldn-t believe how bad smokers smelled until i quit. cold turkey and i have no will power at all.

Anyone know an off the beat/creative way to quit smoking? -

Hey! I-m looking for non-traditional ways to help me quit. Thanks for helping me out.
hi, my advice to you is to really really want to quit smoking,if you want it from deep down inside you ,you will quit smoking and go for plans to quit it! gooooooooood luck
tell everyone you know you have quit chew lots of chewy and get through the first 2 days.
After the first 2 days think well i did 2 days now i can do 4 then aim for a week and double that.
as for telling everyone you have quit you are commiting yourself to quitting like if you start up again you look weak to your friends and that might be enough off a psycological edge to get you past the first week or two.
i have been smoke free for 10 weeks today and im not going to lie to you i still crave nowhere as bad as the first week it comes but goes real quick.
I feel better for it.good luck all you need is you to stop smoking
Eat the sweets (spicy) ,drinks the hot tea others than cigarettes !
Well you could bin ALL your cigarettes and when you have a craving eat some chocolate. And with all the money you saved you could buy a running machine to get rid of that excess weigh from the chocolate
i don-t recommend it, but getting the flu has worked for me in the past! don-t *try* to get sick, but if you ever happen to get too sick to move it might be a good time to quit smoking, too.
just quit cold turkey or when you get the urge drinks lots of water is all i know of
I took up knitting to quite smoking, I know it is a bit Grandmotherly.

But everytime I wanted a cigrette I would start knitting and now I have a really really long scarf and no cigrettes.

It was hard, I was smoking for ever a decade when I decided to smoke. But those knitting needles didn-t let me quit.
My dad had acupuncture treatments to quit smoking and it worked!
Keep your hands busy. When I quit I did alot of cleaning. I also ate sunflower seeds, opening the seeds kept my hands busy and the salty taste made me forget about cigs.
use nicortte gum!!!! yuo can buy it in japan...
Okay, you asked for it...I should warn you though, this is pretty hardcore. But do you want to quit, or not?

Smoke a pack over a few hours. Use the same ashtray. When you have finished, empty out the stubs, but leave the ash in the ashtray. Now lick the ashtray. A nice big lick!

Spend the next hour puking like you-ve never puked before.

Fancy a cigarette after this ? I don-t think so.
