I quit smoking in December - what this mucus problem now? -

I quit smoking cold turkey in december (haven-t had even ONE since). everything was fine -- now the past month or so i have been getting a THICK (sorry gross!) clear mucus stuck in my throat and i have to cough it out (it-s like VERY thick phlegm) so thick sometimes I can barely get it to come out. what is this and does it have anything to do with smoking...no i don-t have a cold, am not sick.
Your Lung cilia (hairlike structure that moves sputum out of the breathing pipes) have regrown, increasing the ability to -clean- lungs and reducing the likelihood of infection. This is why you have mucus now- your lungs are self-cleaning but only when they aren-t being suffocated by smoke.
That-s your body trying to remove all of the crud left over from smoking. It will get better.
Yes,it is part of smoking. It will stop after a while, drink water.

It will help flush out your system.

Congratulations,stay strong.
