Go to the Doc and get CHANTIX if you want to quit. I quit 3 weeks ago. You don-t need anything else but Chantix.
for a little tidbit of advice: i believe its a new drug called Chantix. supposed to be very effective, everyone i talk to at the hospital who have used it succeeded.
I don`t know much about that program, but i my self do the best to reduce smoking.
why quit now...the worlds going to end...just start smoking more...heheheh jp wat you really need to do is get on a really long flight for the first day. and take that same flight back home in 2 days.in a 4 day trip you can quit smoking forever...my grandma did it and it worked
If you are looking for something sponsored by a University, you can always call them up to inquire. I do have a site that I can recommend to you. I used it when I quit and it worked really well. As well, patients and friends that I-ve recommended have really liked it too. Best part, its free and has information about everything!

Im trying to quit smoking cigs. and am wondering if Commot Patches really work.? -

I have smoked for almost 38 years and have COPD am trying to quit and am serious about this but I need some help. Does anyone know if these Commit Patches really work? Thanks
I have copd, emphysema, asthma and have just recently had a cat scan, then a pet scan. They found a small nodule on my lung and that is something really scary. Benign at this time thank God. I-ve also had pleurisy recently and that is something so painful you just wouldn-t believe. It hurts to even breath. I smoke and have used the patches so many times but went back to just trying 1 more cigarette so no to me they didn-t work so well. Now for the good part...go to your Dr and ask for a prescription for Chantix. To me it is a wonder drug although you can backslide on those also which I done but if you are serious about quitting then you-ll be fine. I quit for well over 6 months and back on them again now for sure. Please try this and don-t let happen to you what has happened to me. In my opinion God has given me a miracle. Good luck and please let me know how you are doing with whatever you choose.
The patches work for some people. The Commit nicotine lozenges are even better. If that isn-t enough, talk to your doctor about combination therapy, which is both patches and lozenges. Also talk to your doctor about Chantix, a pill. It is the most effective stop smoking medication known, though not everyone can tolerate it. Also keep in mind that joining a group when you use these things increases your chances significantly.

No matter how addicted you are, some combination of these things will work. Given that you have COPD, I think it-s inexcusable that you are not already receiving these or others therapies under medical supervision.
This may sound terrible to you but it worked for me, a three pack a day man. Buy a package of chewing tobacco and every time you have the urge to smoke, put a small piece in your mouth and suck on it. Do not spit.

I quit smoking 2 weeks ago-for the past few days my mouth amp; tougue feel weird, is this normal? -

I am in no pain, I have a funny taste in my mouth and my tougue hs a metal taste. Thanks
Normal indeed!

Your taste buds are now able to feel the taste again. It will take 3 weeks before you have brand new cells in your mouth and some more time before the epithelium of your mouth works properly.
Really? I never had that problem when I quit. But then again, a cold combined with bronchitis helped me quit smoking so that disabled most of my senses. I-m sure it-s just your tongue getting the tastebuds back or something of that nature. If it persists for another two weeks, I suggest you go to the doctors.

I need some advice on how to quit smoking!!? -

My husband and I are both smokers and we have decided to quit cold turkey. We decide that when the last pack is gone, we wont buy anymore. We are doing this together to make it a little easier. So I guess my question is What are somethings that my husband and I can do to make this a little easier. We want to make sure that we do this and we do this right. So I guess I would also just like to hear that others have been able to do it as well. Any help any advice would be nice thank you in advance.
I quit cold turkey in September and am still going strong. My boyfriend is a non-smoker, so that helps immensely. I-d say the biggest thing to keeping it up is distancing myself from smokers or smoky environments. I try not to be one of those people who says -eww, I can-t go in there because it-s smoky- or other irritating things like that that always bugged me about non smokers, though. It-s definitely tough in familiar situations in which smoking was always the conversation starter, or something I did after eating, but you really just have to want to do it and be willing to perservere. It-s been a little over 7 months for me now, and I feel great. I-ve gotten past that stage of thinking of myself as a smoker, which was a huge hurdle.
As long as you and your husband are both committed to the idea of quitting, and you-re truly ready to do it, you can. Best of luck to you!
a pack a day of cigarettes - $6.50

a pack a month -$195.00

quitting cigarettes and buying something worth $200.00 a month .....
PRICELESS!
i have a friend that everytime she craved a cig she would just suck on a spree or mint and that worked for her!!! also, my grandmother quit after 40 years cold turkey, she said the best part was tasting her coffee better and walking up the steps, not having to hold on to the rails!!!

good luck!
happy to hear that...when u guys will completely quit smoking u-ll come to know that, that-s the best thing ever happen to u...

Best of luck both of u...Enjoy healthy life...!!
Willpower is very much needed. By quiting together your making it 10 times easier. When you do get a craving do something else take up kniting or something with your hands and every craving drink a glass of water. I had the help of Zyban maybe you should look into it, It stops the brain waves that make you crave. Good Luck!
I loved on -my name is earl- when he decided to help his friends mother quit smoking. This guy he knew had gone to jail for something earl did, and he wanted to confess to his friend.

(He was a little worried about his because the guy was a bit crazy, it showed a scene of him sneaking up behind a cop, grabbing his gun - and running down the street waving it around going -i got your gun!!! i got your gun!!!-

He convinces the guy not to kill him, and forgive him, because he got saved while in prison, and he probably wouldn-t have -found jesus- unless he had gone there.

He is getting ready to leave, when the guys mother clocks him upside the head with her bible (the ultra-big print version - with 2-3 words per page). Earl says -but - he forgave me-. She says -he did - but I don-t - you took my boy away from me for two years!!!- He notices she is smoking a cig, and so he decides that he-s going to quit smoking - and help her stop so she will live longer and get those years together with her son back.

It shows them sitting on the couch - and he says -someone said you could use carrot sticks to help you quit - but we couldn-t get them to light- while they sit there trying to burn the ends while sucking on them.

Good luck quitting - I did quite a while back - and was very happy about it. I still have the occasional cig, but I can enjoy it without it becoming a habit.

I actually managed to quit by switching to a pipe. They make a wide variety of tobaccos - and you can kind of just puff on it, and get your nicotine dose without having to be compelled to smoke a whole cig. I actually got one right before xmas - and I was off work for a few days, so I just puffed on it whenever I felt like I needed to (much stronger, and not filtered). I decided to light up a cig one day, and the pack had been sitting out getting stale - and it tasted like sh** comparatively.

When I went back to work, it was such a pain to have to pack a pipe, get it lit, etc., that I didn-t really ever develop a habit of smoking it - I still keep one around with a few kinds of tobacco for the occasional puff.
There are a lot of products available to reduce nicotine craving and withdrawal symptoms from natural remedies to patches to hypnosis. All these are meant to make it easy for a smoker to quit. Personally, I have used natural remedy to reduce the withdrawal symptoms and it worked for me. Now I am smoke free for almost 6 months. Go to the following source for some valuable information on quiting smoking.
Cut yourself a thin slice of carrot, place it onto a plaster and stick it to the right side of your chests, for the female it goes above the breast. (It probably works better this way, as either side will do really, because the right lung is a little bigger) There are natural things in carrot that improve lung health and reduce the craving for smoking. If the craving continues you can increase the number of plasters, but I-m sure you can imagine that there will be a point when you look like something out of a hospital film; so use common sense. This method actually works very well, that-s probably why you-ve never head of it. So, when you fancy a smoke, just think of the carrot This is not simply another distraction technique, this method does work; I stopped with it, though my habit was only thirty a day. It was a very wise old woman who told me this cure.
Looks like you got some good advice. My husband and I have tried this technique several times and failed. i hear it is all about whether or not you are truly ready to quit.

BEST OF LUCK TO YOU BOTH!!!
from regular to lights to cold turkey. occasionally lapsing but eventually replaced with something for fingers to do instead of reaching for it... e.g., computers. sometimes i get headaches but i always think that headaches could have been worse if i had quit later. it was really hard. sorry i-m unable to give more details, it was a long time ago.

Help boyfriend quit smoking? -

my boyfriend is trying to quit smoking. i just want to give him something or make him something to help him. anybody have any ideas?
i-d suggest asking his doctor about chantix.
my dad-s used it and he quit smoking in about three months (after smoking for the past 30 years! packa day)

and to help with the hand to mouth fixation, i-d suggest sugar free jolly ranchers hard candies :)

keep encouraging him! it-s great that he-s trying to quit!
best of luck! x
If he-s serious about quitting (which he MUST be or he-ll never be able to fully quit), tell him to talk to his doctor about getting a prescription of Chantix. I took it when I was trying to quit and it really does help!!

You can look at the info on it at www.chantix.com The site also has a -support line- he can call when he needs to...its just encouragment and support to quit or stay quit smoking. Its a great medicine - great program!
Notice his erection. After I quit I had the hardest since I was 17 years old and had the sex drive of a bunny rabbit on viagra. Funny yes but really I could hang 5 towels from it no problem. Be ready to talk to him about what it-s going to do to the lower regions and be enthusiastic about it. I think that would do a lot to help out with the quitting.
smoking can be harder to quit than heroine or cocaine.
its a very strong addiction.

1. buy nicorette gum.
2. he can get the smoking patch *talk to doctor
3. or he can tough it out and just stop buying them and find another hobby t get his mind off it, after 12 days the addiction starts to go away.
My uncle was a smoker for most of his adult life, my aunt was able to help him by purchasing alot of lolli pops. Whenever he had the urge to have a smoke he just had a sucker instead :) hope this helps
nicotine patches
yeah get a new bf who doesn; t smoke he will quit if he like you thanks e

I want to quit smoking and lose weight. Any advice? -

I want to quit smoking and lose weight. Any advice? -

I-ll admit that I do live too sedentary of a life. I am just concerned about trying to make these two difficult changes at the same time.
One idea:

When you want a cigarette, go for a 15 min walk. Research shows that walking will help curb your nic fit.

There are many other ways to lose weight, so to be general here is the three keys to your success. Caloric restriction (do not go below about 1200 calories a day), cardio, and strength training. Meet with a personal trainer for the first time so you can asses your current fitness level. This will help for a smooth transition into a workout routine. I know a personal trainer can get expensive, but one session won-t strech you too far.
Get alot of gum and healthy foods, and dont forget to exercise like most. 2 of the hardest things to do, and at the same time. Good Luck.
Some say weight can/retention is related to stress, and stress might be a problem as you attempt to quit smoking. Furthermore, smoking can decrease lung capacity and such, and can make it harder to exercise. You should focus on quitting smoking first, as it presents health risks that could hinder your journey to weight loss.

They make gum, patches, and all sorts of things for smokers. Also, simply slowly reducing the amount you smoke each day (or each week, if you want to do it slowly) will help. Just keep in mind that it-s a conscious choice on your part. No medication or aid will *make* you stop smoking. If you really want to quit, and you try, you should be able to succeed.
When mother Nature has provided us with such a simple and easy treatment to cure diseases and even to avoid them we all must follow the instructions given by her. These Therapies only help Nature to cure us. Let us not ignore Nature in our mad pursuit of science. THIS NATURE-S -DO IT YOURSELF- ACUPRESSURE THERAPY ITSLEF IS A SCIENCE AND NOT A MATTER OF BELIEF. Try this Therapy sincerely and regularly for at least 15 days and observe its wonderful and amazing result.

Obesity : This is due to :

1. Malfunctioing of Thyroid/Parathyroid gland and late on other endocrine
glands e.g. malfunctioning of Pineal gland leads to retention of water and
excess water in the body and leads to excess fat.

2. Underworking of Sex glands mainly in ladies after delivery of a child.

3. Overeating i.e. taking more calories than required by the body.

C U R E :

Take minimum 3 liters water in a day.

Take Acupessure treatment on all endocrine glands twice daily.

2. During pregnancy and after delivery, take treatment on all the endrocrine
glands. After delivery, increae heat in the body, take the acupressure
treatment.

3. Drink charged gold/silver/copper water daily two glasses reduced from 4
glasses.

4. Drink hot to lukewarm water only during the day and always after meals.

5. In the morning in one glass of hot water add juice of half a lemon and one
tablespooful of honey. Drink it. That will reduec the desire to eat/drink
sweets.

6. Chew food at least 15 minutes

7. Drink 3 to 5 cups of green juice a day adding 1 teaspoonful of health drink
to each cup. This will help to reduce the body very fast WITHOUT ANY SIDE
EFFECTS.

8. Eat plenty of salads adding 100 grams of sprouted cereals like Mung. Also
eat two seasonal fruits + 1 glass of buttermilk.

9. Avoid all food if possible. However, in spite of the above diet, if you
feel very hungry, take preparations of only wheat or only rice. That will
rduce the intake of food. But eat this food only when you are very hungry.

10. Do Pranayam + Ling Mundra + Jogging+Skipping+swimming + Acupressure.

NOTE :

EXCESS WEIGHT :

In the case of females, damage to endocrine glands of Thyroid/Parathyroid is very common. Moreover, their Sex glands are damaged during pregnancy or delivery because of worry. And so when these two endocrine glands do not function properly, these women start putting on weight more around the waist. Because of damage to these two endocrine glands, sometimes even Pineal gland is damaged and so there is more retention of water in the body, which is also one of the reasons for excess weight.

When such patients come, their obese figure obviously shows their problem which can be confirmed by pressing on point nos. 8, 11 to 15 and no. 3. At this time of checking, it is advisable to check other endocrine glands too, so you can locate any further damage, if any. for cure, first it is necessary to treat these two endocrine glands for 15/20 days and only then start dieting and treatment on not only these two endocrine glands but also on the other endocrine glands. I have treated many cases, where the weight loss was from 2/3 kgs to 10 kgs per month. Once the weight has reached normal then ask the patients to continue Acupressure treatment and they will be able to maintan their weight and pleasing figure.

Regarding smoking= Until-unless if not increase your will-power, it is not possible to quit smoking. So again follow these :

Depression, Tension - Increase of will-power.

Increasing the will-power : Our mind has a great effect on these glands. For example, continuous fear damages the Pituitary gland and makes one timid. Similarly, tension and worry disturb the Pineal gland and so leads to high B.P. and as Pineal gland controls other glands it also disturbs other glands and digestive system. In modern times, strees-tension or worry-fear have increased and they often disturb these endocrine glands. If these endocrine glands are not treated immediately, it might lead to malfunctioning of other glands of the body. As these glands are interrelated, whenever one gland is disturbed, the other glands also get disturbed. So, when you press on the points of these endocrine glands you will feel pain on points of more than one gland especially in case of chronic diseases. Therefore, it is very improtant to give Acupressure treatment on all the endocrine glands and keep them under proper control.

These glands also control the mind (the will-power). So in order to get rid of bad habits like smoking, drinking, drug addiction or even overeating, it is extremely necessary to give treatment on all endocrine glands for at least, fifteen days. Because, these people lack the necessary will-power to give up bad habits, they often break their vows to stop such bad habits and so they are considered unreliable. However, a treatment of fifteen days will give them necessary will-power to stop these bad habits after that. And they will be free from the withdrawal symptoms of stopping these bad habits.

Nervous tension : In the modern days because of fast life and loss of contentment, nervous tension keeps on building up increasingly, tending to damage our mind and health.

How to find out : Ask the patient to lie down on the back and ask some one to press on the base of the middle toe in both the legs. If there is a hurting sensation,it means nervous tension. If the hurting is unbearable, it means that the person is on the verge of collapse and needs immediate attention.

C U R E : (1) While the patient is lying on the back, bend all the toes of both legs, backward. It may hurt but give little more pressure and bend them as much as possible. Repeat this three times a day till the tension is removed.

(2) Clasp your hands tightly interlocking the fingers. Then with left hand fingers press on the back of the right hand and then with right hand fingers, press on the back of the left hand. repeat for about 1 to 2 minutes, 3 to 4 times a day.

(3) Insomnia : The above mentioned treatment can be taken for 5 to 12 minutes at night in bed to ensure good sleep and cure insomnia.

(4) Take 2 glasess of gold/silver/copper charged water reduced from 8 glasses of water daily.

(5) Kali Phos 1 m (a Biochemic medicine) : Take 8 pills in the eveining between 8 to 9 p.m. for 10 days, then once a week. After 10 days Kali Phos 12 x 4+4 pills every day. Complete course is of 45 days.
How quickly do you want to lose weight? If you-re not in a hurry, just don-t eat more than 3x a day, eat slowly and stop when you-re full, and exercise! - you can-t avoid this if you really want to lose weight in the right manner.

About smoking, I-m afraid I can-t help you there. I-m a smoker myself and I don-t know how to stop.
I found that quitting smoking was easier when I had a real motivator to keep me focused. When I quit 15 years ago I had my boyfriend help me with getting out and walking as much as possible and I wrote out a list of all the reasons I had to quit - it was a long list because I wrote down every last little thing I could think of. Any time I felt like having a smoke I took out the list and read it a couple times - it was so long that the cravings usually were gone by the time I finished. I sucked on lollipops and chewed gum to help with the -mouthing- cravings.

Unfortunately I started smoking again years later because I thought I could have just one when my fiance (one of those annoying occasional smokers ;-) !) had a pack. Stupid mistake! I ended up smoking for another 5 years until I got pregnant - but being pregnant was motivation enough and I now know that I can never just have one - if I do I will be right back to smoking again.

Trying to do both will be tough and could sabotage both plans. I agree with the other folks here to quit smoking first and worry about the weight later. You may gain a few pounds after you quit (I gained 10 - 15 lbs. each time) but it was easier to lose the weight after because I could do cardio without gasping for air every few minutes!

Try eating five small meals a day to keep your metabolism up and stave off the hunger pangs which can lead to over eating.

Walk as much as you can while quitting, too. It will help get you in better shape in preparation for your weight loss later. Try to do at least 20 minutes a day, if you can, and work up from there. Get a friend involved to help motivate you to get out there and move your feet.

Believe me - if I can quit smoking, you can too!

Good luck!
Don-t try to do both at the same time. You are just setting yourself up for failure. Try Chantix for the quitting smoking. It-s expense ($115.00 a month) but it-s helped a lot of people. Maintain your current weight by walking after dinner and small exercise improvements like that. After you-ve been smoke free for a few months, then set up your diet and more rigorous exercise plan. Good luck to you!!!
For smoking, you may want to find out if any hospitals or clinics near you offer hypnosis. I have a co-worker who tried it, even though he was VERY skeptical, and after one treatment he put the cigarettes down for good and hasn-t picked them up since. It-s been three years and he has been smoke-free. The good news is a lot of health insurance plans cover all or most of the cost of hypnosis to quit.

If you want to quit, regardless of how you do it, leading a more healthy lifestyle will help. Eating right and exercising are your two best and only effective weapons in the quest to lose weight. Going on a diet for a while or taking pills is only a temporary fix -- you may lose weight but then you-ll gain it all back once you stop the diet or the pills. The key is to make permanent changes in your eating and exercise habits that will knock the weight off and keep it off.

Here are a few tips:

1. You MUST exercise if you want to lose weight and keep it off, so do something every day, even if it’s just a 15-minute walk around the neighborhood. Don’t say you don’t have time for exercise; you have to MAKE time. Yes, it takes time and effort, but you’re worth it, right?

2. Walk as much as you want, but don’t do cardio for more than 40 minutes at a time. If you do, you risk burning muscle instead of fat.

3. If you do strength training, use light weights and do lots of repetitions. That’ll really help you “tone up.”

4. Your diet will make you or break you. You have probably learned bad eating habits over time (most people do). That’s not your fault, but now you have to deal with it. Make a commitment to yourself to unlearn those bad habits and re-learn better habits.

5. Eat breakfast every day within an hour of getting up. People who don’t are 450% more likely to be overweight.

6. Eat six small meals or snacks per day instead of three squares per day or one big meal per day. Your body expends energy digesting your food, so eating smaller portions more often keeps your metabolism running high because you’re constantly digesting food.

7. Avoid these as much as possible:

-- Trans fat (any type of partially or fully hydrogenated oil)
-- High fructose corn syrup (soft drinks are LOADED with it)
-- Fast food
-- Junk food
-- White sugar, white flour, white rice, white potatoes
-- The deadly C’s (cookies, cakes, candy, chips, cola)

8. Build your diet around these trim-body-friendly foods:

-- Nuts, any kind (almonds are best)
-- Beans/Legumes
-- Fresh vegetables (green is GREAT!!!)
-- Dairy products (as long as they’re low-fat or non-fat)
-- Eggs
-- Lean meats (fish and poultry top the list)
-- Olive oil
-- Whole grain breads/cereals/pasta
-- Fresh fruits (anything that ends in “berry” is a winner)
-- Tea (green tea or black pekoe tea)
-- Cold water or ice water (your body has to expend extra calories to heat it up)

9. Desserts and treats are the exception, not the rule. Having said that, however, (1) you can have a couple of pieces of chocolate every day – just don’t overdo, and (2) Allow yourself one “cheat meal” every week where you eat and drink whatever you want as long as you don’t gorge yourself. That’ll help keep you from feeling deprived and it’ll make it easier to stick with your new healthy eating plan.

Good luck!
Stop smoking first then worry about your weight.
Smoking is more important to stop.
Weight can wait until after you-ve completed the first!
Keep something in your hands as much as possible. Water bottles have worked for me. Make sure you walk when you can. Make it a habit. Bust out the Ipod and get into some music helps. Food wise, everyone is different. Fiber is important. Natural like from veggies and some real bran mixed with liquid can take off some pounds.
Smoking? Patches but then don-t skimp on food. Go see a Doctor if you can. GUM! Keep the parts of the body busy with diversions. Replace the smokes and food with some different choices.

Mostly it is patience and commitment you have to stick to. For both together it can be hard. Also try and get some friends on board to support your efforts. Staying alone is the worst for quitting anything. Best of luck.
I use the nicotine inhaler....it-s by rx only in the states but it-s cheaper than buying cigs at $4.50/pack, right? It costs about $160 for 168 of them (unless you have insurance) and you would probably use 10 per day....I didn-t/haven-t gained any weight but haven-t lost any either. I also live a sedentary life so I know where you-re coming from! Good luck and try out the inhaler, really....it works!!!

How can i quit smoking?I have tried several times but the urge automatically comes.? -

Hi to quit smoking first of all you need to have a very strong will power which i think is present in you thats why you are asking for help. Still if you have urge dont worry its normal. If you find it difficult to give up you should consult your doctor or better a psychiatrist. He ill b able to help you. There are medicines available which help in quitting smoking. Or YOU CAN DO THIS you may take NICOTINE containing chewing gums (they are available with all chemist shops) and take 2 of them in morning 1-2 hrs after breakfast (you have to chew them like other chewing gums). Take 2 daily for 7 days. It ill definitely help you. If in any line of doubt consult you doctor. I hope it ill help. (remember it ill help only if you have a strong will to give up on smoking)
Throw each - evry empty cigarette pkt of ur house in da dustbin - eat chewing gum like spout or boomer which will immediately prevent ur desire .Also,if u just wanna see them,a pkt of cigarettes *** which is actyually a sweet
stop being a pussy and overcome the urge.

there is no drug or gum or pill or inhaler or anyhting thaat will make you stop. the only thing that can do that is you.
you have to really want to quit, think of all the negitave things that come with smoking like wasted money, smell, CANCER, having to smoke outside in the cold, getting sick more often.....

best thing i ever did was STOP. you can too
by will ,by yoga,by latest a laser machine
Give it time...quitting smoking doesn-t happen overnight. Don-t expect miracles either...you probably will get the urge for some time but it will start becoming less and less frequent as time goes on. Have you tried the patch?
In the slot for Search for questions type in -how to quit smoking- and you will get at least 142 results.
just control your self if then also the urge automatically comes then you have to eat something else when you feel to smoke.
One man put on his tombstone -I finally quit smoking-. Good Luck, any method you decide upon will be difficult.

Is there anyone out there who successfully QUIT smoking and still social drink?? -

If so, please help me. Im on my 2nd week of not smoking. I really dont crave anymore, but when I went out and drank before I quit I would smoke like crazy. Do you think I will have a problem going out this friday since I quit just 2 weeks ago? I want to go out and drink a little bit, and I think I should kinda treat myself since I did a really good thing by quiting and acually sticking TO IT!. Will that craving when you drink go away eventually? I dont wanna mess everything up. :(

AFTER 2 WEEKS?? I really think I deserve a drink or two if I want, you know what I meen?
no such person
I quit and still went out to the bar and drank. I know I probably looked a little odd but I would just hold a cigarette and not light it. Just so I felt like I fit in with everyone else that was smoking. It is great that you are quitting!!!! Us previous smokers are usually pretty vocal about this issue. Now a lot of places do not even allow you to smoke anyways.
FWIW

I quit a 5 pack a day habit after 55 + years of smoking

I cut down while still having a few drinks a day, I can drink without reaching for a smoke

I know it can be done
I stopped smoking and continued to socialise. It is a lot easier today when so many bars and nightclubs are becoming smoke free. If you have gone this long, you are over the worst. Just be determined. Tell your friends you are now not smoking and ask for their assistance by not blowing smoke at you.

The worst times for me were not when having a drink but when having coffee in the morning, long distance driving and using the computer. Anyway I stuck to it and am now four years without a cigarette. I won-t smoke again but I know that it would be very easy to do.
ive been quit for two months, and the cravings are still there. if you do go out drinking friday, i recommend doing so with people who will hold you responsible for your actions and not let you off the hook if you want to smoke. a strong support system is SO important if you are going to stick to it. go out, but STAY CONSCIOUS of your ultimate goal!
Is there anyone out there who successfully QUIT smoking and still social drink?? -

I tried to quit smoking, can any one help me find my way out? patches and gums wont work.? -

hi Gsheeld

i had little luck with patches or gum, or a lot of other methods.. for over 40 years the last 5 were trying to quit...one episode after another

the good news is that i did eventually find something that worked for me..i found out that i couldn-t do it alone, and joined a support group.. i have been nicotine free for over 5 years now.. i attend nicotine anonymous meetings both locally and online.. you are welcome at meetings while still smoking.. in fact we encourage new folks to attend before setting a quit date.. as always there are a number of ways to quit, good luck finding whats right for you!!

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.
You have to remember patches don-t just work by themselves. A degree of will power has to be used as well. I used Champix. After just 1 week of smoking and taking this pill, I quit. It also removes cravings, so you don-t have to go through the period of being cranky. It is expensive but well worth it. Very few side effects, take it with food or lots of water. If you are serious about stopping this habit, then money should not be an issue.
I quit cold turkey - but I had to really use my brain to do it! Every time I had a craving, I forced myself to wait 10 minutes before going for a cigarette. Usually that-s the amount of time it took for the craving to go away.

I also tried to hang out with my few smoker friends a little less, and that definitely helped. Any time I thought about having a smoke, I just reminded myself about how gross it was, and how I hated my clothes reeking of it. It was really my brain that had to overcome my bodily cravings. Eventually it worked though, and now I-m 3 years smoke-free!

Be strong - you can do it! :)
umm. stop buying packs, and save your money for something useful.
think about cancerous lungs and second hand smoke and death.
sorry but its all there along smoking.
get prescription for Chantix! It works!

Has anyone ever used quot;snusquot; to quit smoking cigarettes? -

Has anyone ever used quot;snusquot; to quit smoking cigarettes? -

Sweden has reduced nicotine levels by 50% by making snus available to the general public; the tobacco lobby has successfully fought its large scale intro to the US market but it can be legally imported. Anybody or friends, relatives, workers, etc. used it?
Snus is a moist smokeless tobacco. It is similar to US moist smokeless tobacco products such as Copenhagen and Skoal. The primary difference is that Snus is not fermented, is cut smaller, has a higher moisture content and is typically put in the upper lip rather than the lower lip.

That being said, Sweden has basically outlawed smoking outside your house, so Snus sales went through the roof. They reduced the amount of smoking, but not nicotine as snus still has nictone.

Rather than switching to a tobacco based product to quit smoking, try an herbal product such as Hooch Snuff (
http://www.hoochsnuff.com/.)
It will provide the same benefits as snus, but does not contain tobacco or nicotine.
havent use it , but i do have use , zero-nico it works great and is safe

Now, you can safely and effectivly give up smoking forever, without having to poison your body further with chemicals or nicotine based solutions, that have been proven not to work. ZERONICO had a 75% success rate, during clinical studies, compared to 5% for gum, pills, or nicotine patches.
Never heard of it but...
Wellburitin it is an anti depressant that has a 60% sucess rate for quiting smoking. I tried it and have quit without a problem except a few very minor urges. I smoked for 35 years. You start taking 1 pill a day (they make you feel great by the way) and set a quit date mine was for three weeks later than you just stop! It works and is great ask your Dr. to prescribe it.
By the way it is also sucessful to stope the craving of methampetamines and several other addictions! Feel free to e mail me and let me know how you are doing!

It worked with me. I stopped 10 months ago and I used to smoke 30 cigarrettes a day.

I smoked for 18 years. I quit for good 15 years ago. I-m not going to fool you. It was The hardest Thing I ever did.

I -quit- many times times. The one thing that made each attempt unsuccessful was that I fooled myself into thinking that I could have just ONE. That was my downfall every time.

When I quit for good 15 years ago I finally realized that I could not have even ONE. NOT EVEN ONE DRAG. I-ve been smoke free for 15 years (Not even one drag!).

I bought peppermint candies by the 5lb sack. Every morning I filled my pockets with candy. Whenever I needed a smoke, I had a peppermint instead. It worked and let me tell you ... quiting peppermints is a hell of a lot easier than quitting smoking. At first, i celebrated every smoke free day...then every smoke free week...smoke free month...Now I remember every Jan 9th... because my last drag was 8:30am Jan9th 1992.

Buy yourself rewards as you save the money. and remember.... You only have to stay away from ONE.

All the best....
This was just released yesterday as a healthy way to quit smoking:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070314/ap_o…

good luck!
I quit 22 years ago Valentines Day and i know what you-re going through. Three things are tough, but very doable:

1. The Nicotine addiction. Nicotine is a stimulant, so I was able to drink coffee in small doses all day. If you-re not kept awake all night, try it. it-s something to do with your hands and it-s a boost. The nicotine addiction grabs you for about a week to 10 days. You-ll feel bad a few times, so just take naps and tough it out. Once you pass it you-re hlfway there.

2. The mental addiction. Pulling out the cigarettes and packing them down, lighting them, all the habitual actions you did when you smoked are part of the habit. Chew on straws, hold pencils, chew gum. It-s not as hard on your body as nicotine, but is tougher to break for the mind.

3. Take inventory of your lifestyle. This is the toughest. Most smokers hang out with other smokers. They take breaks together at work and they have a bond. Like an alcoholic, you really have to consider how important your smoker friends are and consider not spending time with them. If a DEAR friend smokes, tell them you-re going to have to ask them to either a) quit with you, b) not smoke around you, or c) take some time off. If your spouse smokes it almost has to be A.

Once you get a year or two under your belt NEVER, ever, ever touch a cigarette again, even in fun. I quit for over a year and got a case of the stupids and wondered how -bad- one would taste. It tasted so bad I drove straight to a 7-11 and bought a pack and smoked for another year before I quit for good.

I enjoyed the last cigarette I had. I understand the pull. I still dream about smoking 22 years later! But quitting is the best thing I ever did, and I am proud of the fact that none of my three kids has ever seen me touch a cigarette. I am honest with them. And I tell them the best way to quit is to never start. You-re not so lucky but YOU CAN DO IT. Take heart, I-m really pulling for you!
The shortest and least stressful way is with some powerful help.
This will give you fast and effective ways to put in a new non-smoking program or habit into your brain. The physical addiction to nicotine is gone in 2-3 days, so the rest is habitual, and psychological. There-s lots of tips, info and free help at

plus a great guaranteed course you can do to make the whole process easier on yourself.
Throw away the cigarettes and read articles on people who have lung cancer from smoking. This should do it.
quit smoking is not a big issue if any one have a strong wish but for it you need a solid program which can motivate you to do it there are many claims to do so one of them i suggest you and want to say only one word about it : its different : click
Hey:

I-ve heard good things about a new pill that is out. Google it or ask your doctor. You take if for 3 months and for some at least it has made the difference between quitting and not. I myself quit about 5 weeks ago. I did it pretty much cold turkey. Bought a pack, smoked one when I felt the urge and when pack was done, never bought anymore. I have had health problems and unfortunately this was my catalyst. Wish I had quit sooner before I developed these problems. But it can be done. All it really takes is a lot of willpower. It is as simple as just don-t do it. You know all the -tricks-. Do what works for you- and just don-t smoke at all- not even a puff. The withdrawal doesn-t last too long but the ritual is what I found hard. But it is easier and easier everyday and I do not hardly think about smoking at this point. I have more energy for sure. If I can do it, anyone can. Wish there were a magic way but I swear it is just plain willpower and some help with the other often written about techniques or maybe this new pill. Good luck.
Here-s a good tips.
Set a date line when you want to stop.
Take it slowly. Reduce it day by day.
Tell your friends and family that you wanna quit so they dont offer you cigarette.
Chew mint chewing gum when you feel like smoking.
When you have stop smoking dont ever take onther puff.
STOP SMOKING (014)

The habit of smoking is an acquired pattern of action that is automatic and thus difficult to break. Subconscious programming helps eliminate the desire to smoke, which makes quitting achievable. The stop smoking program is designed to make the behavioral transition as easy as possible.

Any suggestions on how to quit smoking? -

what helped you quit?i ve been under alot stress is there anything that helped you when your under stress?
I quit by using a Electronic Cigarette. I have been smoke free for two months now and really enjoy/prefer the electronic cigarette over regular smoking. You still get the smoking feel, throat hit, nicotine and holding something in your hand so it makes the transition very natural. There is no bad smell like cigarettes so I can smoke inside and in my car and around non smokers since the smoke it produces is a water vapor.

I feel better and since it doesn-t have the tar, and all the other bad stuff found in regular cigs, It-s really the way to go in many ways.

Google - -electronic cigarette forum- and you can read about the different models and user experiences to help you determine if it-s something for you. I like the DSE-901 model myself but there are lots of different options to choose from and more coming out..

p.s. I was a pack a day smoker for 17 years and as soon as I got my E-Cig I quit regulars the same day. Haven-t gone back since.
Hi Victoria..

congrats on your decision to quit... its seldom easy, but very much doable.. i smoked for over 40 years before i found a way that worked for me a little over 5 years ago..

the one thing that has worked for me is participation in a support group.. i attend nicotine anonymous meetings both locally and online.. meetings are as close as your computer.. however you decide top quit good luck as there is simply no wrong way to quit

Smoking is a horrible habit. I quit a 2 pack a day habit using an electronic cigarette. They are amazing. The last time I had a traditional cigarette was an hour before I got my e-cig in the mail. I have not had the desire to smoke a traditional cigarette ever since. They don-t stink at all and you can smoke them indoors at bars and restaurants. I feel a million times better now. Here is a link to the company I buy from. They have one of the best reputations in the e-cig world and great prices. Good luck on your journey to a healthier you.

How do you sucessfully quit smoking and stay quit? -

How do you sucessfully quit smoking and stay quit? -

Quitting smoking is extremely difficult. The withdrawl makes us not want to, but we know the risks and we know that they are not worth it. For anyone who wants to end their nicotine addiction, check out www.stopsmokingcleveland.com. This is the MOST effective method on the market. It is 86% effective and the details of the program are on the website (no signing up or submitting your information).

I tried this program and it changed my life.
If you quit. You quit. It is very easy! Don-t lite one. Don-t chew either it is worse than smoking. The rest is all in the mind. If you get angry while quitting you are just looking for an excuse to light up. Nothing or no one can make you smoke only you can do that.
I have quit for 9 days now. I use 14mg nicotine patch and have found a lot of good advice and help at www.quitnet.com. I read a book by -Allen Carr- titled -Easy Way to Quit Smoking- which was very inspirational. I carry a little card with reasons why I want to quit and helpful hints to stay quit. I also have a small picture of a healthy lung and a diseased smoking lung which I carry with me as a reminder of lung cancer (you can get this off the internet). I chew gum and suck on short straws. I read a lot about not smoking and go to the quitnet for help.

You can quit for you, good luck and keep trying to quit. They say it gets easier to quit the more you try to quit.
This method works for me and is the only money back guaranteed.
I quite smoking 2 years ago

Get the Facts
Easyway, founded by Allen Carr in 1983, has the highest independently verified 12-month success rate (75.8% for a smoker completing the program) of any quit smoking technique and a 90% satisfaction rating.

Compare Easyway to other methods and see for yourself why Easyway is called “The Cadillac of quit smoking methods.”

The Allen Carr Method
HOW THE METHOD WORKS

Using psychotherapy, the method works in the opposite way to the “willpower” method. It does not concentrate on the reasons the smoker should not smoke : the money, the slavery, the health risks and the stigma. Smokers know all that already. Instead it focuses on why smokers continue to smoke in spite of the obvious disadvantages.

It is fear that keeps smokers hooked!

Fear the smoker will have to give up their pleasure or crutch. Fear the smoker will be unable to enjoy life or handle stress. Fear the smoker will have to go through an awful trauma to get free. Fear the smoker will never get completely free from the craving.

The Method removes these fears
Smokers quit with the Allen Carr Method as happy non-smokers, not feeling deprived but with a huge sense of relief and elation that they have finally achieved what they always wanted….

TO BE FREE!

What about the terrible withdrawal pangs from nicotine?

The physical withdrawal from nicotine is so slight that most smokers don’t realise that they are addicts. What smokers suffer when they try and quit using other methods is the misery and depression caused by the belief that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch.

The Allen Carr Method removes this feeling of deprivation.
It removes the need and desire to smoke. Once the smoker is in the right frame of mind and they follow the simple instructions, the physical withdrawal from nicotine is hardly noticeable.

No Gimmicks!

The Method does not use any gimmicks, useless aids or substitutes. No nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, tabs, inhilators or nasal sprays! No needles! No lasers! No drugs! No herbs! No shock treatment!

The Allen Carr Method is successful because:

It removes the smokers’ conflict of will.
There are no bad withdrawal pangs.
It is instantaneous and easy.
It is equally effective for long-term heavy smokers and light smokers.
You need not gain weight.
You will not miss smoking.

Medical Endorsements

A personal view from Professor Judith Mackay MBE, JP, FRCO (Edin), FRCP (Lon), World Health Organisation Advisory Panel on Tobacco and Health

“I have no hesitation in supporting Allen Carr’s work. Many clinics use some of his techniques but it would appear that few do it in quite such a successful package.”

Carole Johnson, Coronary Heart Disease Prevention Unit, Tyne Tees

“his success rate was such that, when budgets allow, we continue to use Easyway for work with specific groups and individuals.”

Dr Anil Visa BSc, MBBch., FRCA, Consultant – Royal Hospitals NHS Trust – Royal London Hospital

“I have observed the Allen Carr method at first hand and have found it to be very successful and I wholeheartedly support it as an effective way to quit smoking.”

Dr William Green, Head of Psychiatric Dept, Matilda Hospital, Hong Kong

“It is a remarkable fact that Allen Carr, on his own admission a non-professional in behaviour modification, should have succeeded where countless psychologists and psychiatrists holding postgraduate qualifications have failed, in formulating a simple and effective way to stop smoking.”

Dr Martin Jarvis, Principle Scientist, Imperial Cancer Research
Fund and Reader in Health Psychology, University College London

”...I am more than happy to testify to Allen Carr’s enduring involvement and to recognise the value of the kind of behavioural and cognitive support he provides.”

Dr PM Bray MB CH.b., MRCGP

“I was really impressed by the method. In spite of the Allen Carr organisation’s success and fame, there were no gimmicks and the professional approach was something a GP could readily respect. I would be happy to give a medical endorsement of the method to anyone.”

Celebrity Endorsements

-His method is absolutely unique, removing the dependence on cigarettes, while you are actually smoking. I’m pleased to say it has worked for many of my friends and staff.”
Sir Richard Branson

“Some friends of mine who had stopped using Allen Carr’s method suggested I tried it. I did. It was such a revelation that instantly I was freed from my addiction. Like those friends of mine, I found it not only easy but unbelievably enjoyable to stay stopped.”
Sir Anthony Hopkins

GOOD LUCK!
cut off your fingers. its almost impossible to light up then
For me it has been mind over matter. I have kids now and I don-t want them to ever see me smoke and get the impression that smoking is okay. It-s hard though... I still think about smoking A LOT. You just have to try to find something to occupy your time that won-t let you smoke (I knit now). Also, when you-re having a bad moment or a bad day, remind yourself that tomorrow is another day... another day when you HAVEN-T had a cigarette! Reward yourself for not smoking.
The Patch, The Gum, and, most of all, Will Power. You can-t do anything if you don-t want to do it. You have to have the motivation more than anything.
The desire to quit should be greater than your desire to smoke!

It-s NOT easy.

But all the hype about NICOTINE DEPENDANCE is RUBBISH. There are NO severe withdrawal symptoms. Just a strong urge to smoke ... you have to feel miserable for a few days - NO OTHER WAY.

To help you along for the first week I suggest you take some tranquilzer tablets such as DIAZAPAM. Small doses two or three times a day.

Don-t try to ESCAPE from thinking or talking about SMOKING. DON-T BE AFRAID OG GIVING UP!

Try to AVOID the company of SMOKERS for atleast the first week.

DO NOT BOOZE during your first THREE MONTHS... you could become weka when you are drunk.

I KNOW ALL THIS BECUASE I ACTUALLY QUIT AFTER BEING A HEAVY SMOKER for 30 YEAR PLUS.... I smoked 60 a day till July 2003.

Now I simply ENJOY MY FREEDOM from slavery to tobacco. It-s a great feeling not always crave for a cigarette. No lousy taste in the mouth. No social embarrasment - in public places. So much more fun to be alive!

GOOD LUCK!
Realise that it is going to be difficult, know that it-s what you really want to even if your mind is trying to make up all kinds of excuses. Get help (patches, gum etc) if you think it will help. Be very prepared for times after your morning coffee, after a meal or when you-re out having a drink and maybe change your routine. I went cold turkey and ate sugarfree gum at those times I really craved it. If you quit then have a weak moment, don-t be hard on yourself realise what good you-ve done then pick up quitting where you left off.

I agree with KSM. The NLP is just like motivator that keep you get going and focus to stop smoking. You can find out more about it at this website
Hi,

I just quit smoking yesterday, by using NLP technique patented by Dr. Densky. Its just so easy. You have to just watch a video and your cravings for smoking will go. It does something with your subconscious mind and i am just feeling as if i have never ever smoked. My sincere request to all smokers to try this.. it will work.

I never thought in my life that i can quit smoking for anything but
this has changed my entire view about life. Because as a smoker i think the only thing i cared about in life was when i am going to have next cigarette. LIFE is really much more than that.
i heard the best way is to always have nicotine gum..

HELP! :) Have you ever quit smoking before? -

I quit smoking three weeks ago. I wore a patch for the first two weeks, and I-m no longer wearing one. I wasn-t sleeping very well while using the patch.

I-m pretty much OK now... but the cravings are so frequent still! It-s torture sometimes.

What I was wondering is... if you have quit smoking before, how long did it take for you to stop having cravings?

Or... at the very least... how long before the cravings became much less frequent?
I quit smoking several years ago using the patch. I also took Zyban. I believe it-s an anti depressant that they-ve discovered helps with the mental cravings of smoking. I quit the patch after a month and kept on the zyban for a couple of more months. It seemed to work great for me. Unfortunately I started smoking again a year later when my dad died.. so the idea is always in your head.. you just have to beat it.
About a month. It helped that my boyfriend really hated to see me smoke. Try to hang around nonsmoking friends and stay away from smokey places.
never because i don-t smoke

wanna chat with someone who-s cool.i-m always there.
prithvi_calicut@yahoo.com
Cravings come and go. But they only last literally for like 20 - 40 seconds. I quit cold turkey and was smoking 4 packs a day when I quit. That was back in 94.
Never started smoking
I think you should take another whack at the patch. Try putting it on first thing when you wake up, and take it off at least a couple of hours before you go to sleep. They really only deliver nicotine for twelve hours, so if you don-t sleep much anyway, they may not be enough. I find they DO help though, a lot. Also, they really do take longer than just a couple of weeks. I-m using the step down series; level one is the same as one pack of cigarettes a day; use them for at least three or four weeks, maybe even more. Then, go to step 2 patches, which are about one-third less strong. Use them for several weeks as well, before going to step 1. If you rush or try to take a short cut, you are probably going to backslide and start smoking again.

The other habits are not going to be helped by the patch. I find tic-tacs or altoids to be good if I want a cigarette, or, sometimes I go brush my teeth if my mouth feels tingly. Either of these tricks keep you from eating to give your mouth something to do, which is the real reason many people gain weight when they quit.

Personally the patches make me dream a lot, I like that! I have only smoked once in three months now, and that one time was two months ago. Good luck!
I quit 4 years ago and still get an occasional craving. If you-ve made it three weeks you-re over the hardest part, just don-t give in, good luck
I keep tryen but I have not succeded yet. If you to really want to quit and make that dession. I keep tryen to do it for everyone else but me thats why it hasn-t worked for me. Good luck to ya!

How do I finally quit smoking cigarettes for good? -

It-s mind over matter...seriously. You need to get it set in your mind that you will never smoke another cigarette again. It is the habit of smoking that keeps you going back to it...not the addiction like most people think. Withdrawl lasts only about a week or two...the rest is habit. When your mind gives you that signal of -light one up now-, you need to very firmly tell yourself -NO!- and get up - do something else with your hands. You need to deprogram yourself. Remember, you were not born with the smoking habit, you programmed yourself to smoke! You can do it!
Ziban
Hypnosis
That needs a lot of determination. Ist decrease no. cigrrates slowly and than quite. .

I put on over 30lbs - i have tried everything, starting with starving, then tried an expensive gym membership, have now bought my own stationery bike and am a member of weight watchers. I-ve lost .4lb in the last 4 weeks yipee - now I have just bought kevin trudeau-s weight loss book - please tell me have I just wasted $50.00 or does this work.
it true. you try distract yourself from smoking a cigarette by eating.
You were using smoking for oral gratification and giving up smoking must have increases stress levels and made your weight go up. Since I have not read that book, no comment. If you find it useful, fine, else donate it to a library.
You just wasted $50 for info you can get free on the internet.
firstly, congratulations on giving up smoking - much better for your health!

Secondly, this won-t make you feel any better, but weight loss is pretty simple - just burn off more calories than you take in. I-d suggest doing regular cardio at the gym (say most days, or every other day) to burn calories, and weight training to increase your muscle mass and therefore your metabolic weight (every other day would be good). If you do this for a week or two and you-re not losing weight, eat less Calories and/or do more cardio (upto say 30-45mins per day); repeat until you-re losing 1-2lb/week. And yes, that is easier said than done. This site is good for general advice on exercise/diet -
http://www.stumptuous.com/cms/index.php

Thirdly, I-m afraid you-ve wasted 50bucks on the book. Trudeau-s advice is largly stupid, sometimes dangerous - don-t touch with a barge pole. At least you can avoid wasting any more money buy not buying the junk natural -cures- the bloke recommends.
most of the time, quitting smoking makes people gain weight at first, then u gotta start watching ur eating habits, and stick to regular excercises, if u say u spend all this money, expensive membership, etc., then u should do fitness as well as cardio, like running, and/or walking. in this way will also help u get u breathing better faster, specially for a former smoker
I quit smoking and didn-t gain any weight. In fact, I lost about 10 pounds.
I wouldn-t say you wasted your money but I think you should have done your research on quitting smoking. I did and I found that you gain weight when you quit smoking. Trust me your energy wasn-t wasted in quitting. Use the book and keep trying and the weight will come off.
I quit and put on about 40 pounds. My doctor told me I was better off with the extra weight.
I have since lost that weight by taking up a healthy lifestyle. Mountainbiking, ultra running, triathlons and such and I-m in my forties. So just don-t give up and don-t go back to smoking.
Hang in there. I quit smoking and gained 70 pounds in a year using food to substitute for my nicotine addiction. I then made up my mind to lose the weight and I just ate 4 oz of steak and a glass of orange juice everyday for 7 weeks. My doctor was really mad at me. You don-t need to be so drastic. Just watch what you eat and continue to exercise and your metabolism will eventually straighten up. As an incentive put the money you used to spend on cigarettes in a coffee can or even the bank and when you lose the weight you can buy yourself something nice. Keep up the good work. I-m proud of you!
First of all, Congratulations on quitting smoking!
