How did you manage to quit smoking? -

If you-ve successfully managed to gve up smoking, please share your experiences and helpful tips with this nicotine junkie.
I used Zyban (wellbutrin) for a couple months. It was invaluable in making quitting tolerable, since I had to work and I couldn-t be exploding on people when the cravings got really bad!

I-ve heard mixed reviews concerning Chantix, it-s the newest smoking-cessation treatment out there.

Regardless of what medicine you use or don-t use, you have to WANT to quit! I went to a seminar where they showed an actual charred lung from a cadaver who had smoked. To me, that was HUGELY motivational. It really creeped me out to think that my lungs looked like what comes between two buns at Burger King...

Good luck! It ain-t easy, but it-s worth it!
~~No cigarette is going to do to anything but harm to you.

There are patches, gums, and now a new product called Smoke Everywhere. These are safer than cigarettes because there are no added chemicals or tar in them. They allow you to cut down slowly and quit for good. If you cant go cold turkey these are excellent choices.

There are also many smoking cessation groups available. Look for one in your area. It helps finding others to help you through and understands the misery you are dealing with while quitting.

When you are ready to be healthy, you will do it. Best of luck!~~

Cold turkey. It-s cheap, easy, and inexpensive. My husband smoked 2 packs for 25 years and one day just decided to quit. He had NO problem. 9 months later I was ready to quit. You have to want to quit.
I did it cold turkey. Sure, I missed the habit for a couple weeks, so I chewed gum.
That was 20 years ago, and the urge really went away after 2 weeks. I see it every day. A woman finds out she-s pregnant, so she quits. Another person finds out he has heart or lung problems, so he quits right then and there.
It-s all willpower. Just throw them away (you better wet them first!) and be proud to say, -I don-t smoke.- You know it-s a disgusting, stinky,
expensive, and DANGEROUS stupid habit. Here-s a star to get to you started. Congratulations!!!! :)
I decided that I wasn-t going to be a slave to nicotine anymore and put them down; never picked them back up and I smoked for 7 years. No gum, no patch, just quit.

tell him that if he has to smoke he has to step out of the house.... otherwise your child will be at risk for low birth weight and might be born prematurely
i-m sorry, but you need to have a serious sit down with him. i mean if he really loves you he should want to quit with you and you guys wont start up again for the babies sake.
you can not make him stop, he has to stop for his self. stop trying to control him
you need to quit smoking no matter what.
chin
for me it was easy to quit when I was pregnant -cause I just thought about my baby, and I didn-t want to do anything to hurt him.
make him smoke outside
I found some interesting information both of you may want to read. Maybe it can help or at least give you some ideas as to how you can quit. You can do it.
You can-t really get him to quit smoking due to that damn thing called -Free will-.
But since you-re pregnant, I do suggest the following actions.
Stop smoking (duh. ^_^)
Tell your fiance that you don-t want him in the house/car or around you while he-s smoking.
Tell him you-re not going to ask him to stop, but each time he goes to smoke you are going tell him that you don-t like it.
^_^

Good luck and congrats.
I hope you have a healthy happy child ^_^
You should both quit. Smoke products from either of you will not be good for the baby, let alone you.
Post up pictures of what smoking does to you.

I just saw a TRUTH commercial and every day, over 30 babies lost their mothers due to cigarettes.
Tell him that every month he keeps smoking you-re going to fellate one of his friends. That should work
you-re pregnant!? and smokin-!??!?? quit fast and now....

as for him, he-ll have to take the first step and hold on thru...you can-t force him...he has to do it on his owna dn you can support him anyway you can...you both need to quit, for the baby-s sake!
You can-t -make- him do anything. Only he can choose this for himself.

I need some help on a question in my class that talks about how to write a goal to quit smoking. Help please? -

I have a question in my study skills class where we have to describe a certain goal that they give us, and one of the goals is to quit smoking, but I know nothing about smoking, so I have no idea how I would describe how to quit except to go to the store and get some of those patches and the gum. How would I go about describing how one would quit smoking? Any help with this would be appreciated! Thanks!
Do you have friends or relatives who struggle with a nicotine addiction? Also try google searching and see what you find. I would be in the same predicament as you having never smoked. On the other hand my mom and step-father have smoked in their earlier lives and my dad still smokes. That would be the first place I would start.
quitting is for *******

Today is a good day to quit smoking...? -

ok this is not a question i know, but today i feel it is like a good day for me to quit smoking. i`ll be gone to work from 9am till midnight, and i am curious what advices and good thoughts i see around here when i get back. don`t worry, if you tend to make fun or not support me, i will just ignore ur answer :D so... i am looking forward to seeing if i can manage not to smoke all day... what do you all think? :D kk... wish me luck now, i will need it.
Yes! It-s a great day! Why not give it a shot and if it doesn-t work out, just try again tomorrow!

Things that might help:
-chewing gum
-constantly sipping water
-drinking coffee
-excercise
-thinking about how good you will feel when you finally manage to quit!

It-s going to be tough, but accept and acknowledge that and it may make it a tiny bit easier! You can do it! Good luck!

And remember: you-re never a loser untill you keep trying :)
good luck. u can quit if you really want
Its never too late to mend.... Smoking is goin to affect ur health adversely, if not now then may be few years later... i strongly suggest to quit it
One thing that helped me was get rid of cigarettes in the car. Because I always wanted to smoke in the car...i even had to not take any money with me when I drove so I couldnt stop and buy a pack! I told EVERYONE I knew that I stopped because I knew they would give me crap if i lit up in front of them. Quitting cold turkey is great if you can do it. For me, i just tried to go as long as I could in one day. By around 6:00 pm, i couldnt stand it and would have one, them a few hours later another. I gradually became smoke free. It-s not easy, I know. Good luck, you are doing your lungs a favor.
I-ve told myself that a few times over the years!

I even succeeded a time or two! One time I went cold turkey from 2 packs a day to nothing- stayed off of it for a year and a half!

I-m proud to say that I-m a NON-smoker! YAY!

Yes, I said I-ve succeeded a time or two- I-ve even seen a councilor to quit this last time.... unfortunately, it was brought to my attention that I had it as a stress crutch and I have had to learn how to -redirect that energy into a different outlet-... 6 months and still going! WOO!!!

For me, the urge has ALWAYS been there, but know that it will get easier to just stay clear of it! And we all have moments of weakness, if you start feeling you need one, call someone to go out and do something!

It-s possible! GO YOU!!! Good luck and may you succeed in your endeavor!!! :-D
I quit October 1, 2008. I was smoking after work and just decided to be done. I put out my cigarette and haven-t smoked since. I-ve tried to quit before but to no avail. I did it this time, so can you. There are still a LOT of times I want to go buy a pack, but I don-t. It gets easier, you can do it. Good luck!!!!!
Depends how heavey a smoker you are, If you smoke close to or a pack or more a day, I think you will find it very hard!

Good luck though

Are any quit smoking products good like electronic cigarette? -

The other day i was looking on TV advertisements when i saw the host was telling about electronic cigarette and quoting it as one of the effective quit smoking products is it true?
Hello!

Some say that using electronic cigarettes can help you quit smoking. Currently there is no scientific evidence for or against it. One option is to gradually lower the level of nicotine in your cartridges to become nicotine and tobacco free.
The other option is to smoke electronic cigarettes with zero nicotine cartridges while applying nicotine patches. That way you separate addiction and habit.

Take a look at this discussion forum discussion.

http://www.ecigarettes365.com/forum/quit

Maybe electronic cigarettes are something for you.
The electronic cigarette was developed in China in 2004 and was designed by the Runyan corporation. It was designed to take the place of smoking tobacco cigarettes and cigars because, despite global smoking bans, many smokers just find it too difficult to quit altogether. There are numerous nicotine replacement products on the market, such as gum and patches, but these in no way replicate the smoking experience which has been proven to be a part of the addictive ritual of smoking. The e-cigarette is revolutionary in that it-s aim is to both deliver nicotine to user and simulate the experience of smoking a traditional tobacco cigarette. I took this information from http://www.buye-cigaretteonline.com
It snot proven

You may go for Nicotine replacement therapies

Nicotine replacement therapies (NRTs) are medicines that help decrease or stop a smoker-s withdrawal symptoms by giving controlled doses of nicotine without the other harmful chemicals of cigarette smoke. NRTs are sold as patches, gums, inhalers, nasal sprays, or lozenges. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved all of these products to help people quit smoking. Patches, gums, and lozenges are available over the counter, but you will need a prescription for inhalers and nasal sprays. Some other useful tips to make your quest more successful:

Join a gym and start exercising at least three times a week

Spend more time with non-smokers and you will find yourself not wanting to smoke quite as much

Involve yourself in other activities such as painting, scrap booking, playing golf, building puzzles, swimming, or writing poetry.

During stressful situations when you really need to blow off steam, squeeze a stress ball, have a work-out at the gym, go running, listen to loud music or phone a friend who can offer support

Due to the unpleasantness of the withdrawal symptoms, many people who try to quit smoking end up replacing the cigarettes with some other type of addiction. This may be an addiction to prescription medication, such as sleeping tablets or tranquilizers, or an addiction to food. While you will definitely experience the health benefits of giving up nicotine, no one wants to replace one addiction with another!

A healthy diet, adequate exercise as well as natural and holistic treatments such as acupuncture, massage and herbal and homeopathic remedies can also help the smoker overcome nicotine addiction. Herbal and homeopathic treatments are a safe and effective means to reduce nicotine cravings (without giving you more nicotine) and will also help to prevent weight gain and alleviate anxiety and irritability. Basically, natural and holistic treatments not only lessen the urge to smoke, but also help you to restore balance in your body.

There are a number of ingredients such as Avena sativa, Garcinia cambogia and Gotu Cola (Centella asiatica) which will help to address the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal. They reduce nicotine cravings and balance the mood.

You may get detailed info on these remedies over here

If quitting smoking to you is to cease burning and inhaling tobacco - then yes you can quit smoking. If your definition is putting a tubular devise to your mouth and exhaling something that LOOKS like smoke but isn-t then you will still be smoking. If using nicotine is your definition of smoking then you still have options.

Its all in your perception of the definition of -smoking-. I quit using tobacco almost 6 months ago by switching over to e-cigs. In my opinion I quit smoking and now choose to -vape- instead. You can then decrease and finally cease your use of nicotine if you choose. Thats up to you, the option is there if you want it. You just need to learn about e-cigs before you choose to buy one as there a MANY options available these days.

Check out some forums to get some real user input and not just sales hype or anti-smoking or anti nicotine user input. Nicotine IS NOT the bad thing in cigarettes.

Umm...I guess its not true. Actually, you get dependant on the electronic cigarette instead of traditional tobacco. Electronic cigarettes are just another option. However, switching to electronic cigarettes can help you in some ways. They don-t contain any of the harmful chemicals other than nicotine. This way you probably can give your lungs a lot of relief. You can always try to gradually decrease the nicotine level to 0mg. But honestly I tried the same thing, and that did not work for me.

However, I like the fact that are harming me a LOT less. Its the nicotine I care for, and I don-t need the additional chemicals or carcinogens that come as unwanted bonus.I used to use the 16mg Nicotine levels at first, now I have downgraded to 8mg Nicotine level. You might consider it as a achievement, but I know that my smoking habits have not decreased at all. I think you should try Green Smoke. What I like best about them is that each new cartridge comes with a fresh atomizer, so its quite healthy too. If you want to try Green Smoke, visit this link:

Also, you can use the following coupon codes if you are going to buy:
ChangeALife (20% discount on all kits)
disc5-1940 (5% on any purchase)
disc10-1940 (10% off purchases above $100)
I-ve tried just about every method there is out there and there is only one I can recommend - NLP! It eliminates the cravings.
Gum patches and all the other just did not cut it for me, not to mention cold turkey which was the hardest, I even tried the electric cig and it is just no match to the real thing.

How can it help you quit? An electronic cigarette is just an unsmelling cigarette, haha. That-s like trying to quit by switching to cigars or something
I have heard that hypnotism can be very effective!

Why do i wake up with blood in my mouth after I quit smoking ? -

Why do i wake up with blood in my mouth after I quit smoking ? -

I have been smoking for 20 years + The last couple of times that I quit I wake up with blood or a dark colored muck in my mouth. I havent had a cig. in 4 mounth and it doesn-t seem to be letting up . will it ? and what is it ?
You might be talking about this fungus that grows in the mouth due to an off balance of the PH. If you have been a heavy smoker for 20 years, your ph could have adapted to being used to cig-s, now when you quit, it-s abnormal for your mouth. If you google -mold on tounge or black tounge- or something there is a lot of info on it. It-s not dangerous, just scrub your tounge with a toothbrush and don-t use listerine (for that can make your mouth even more acidic.) It will pass on it-s own once you finally get it out of your mouth once and for all. Scrub a lot, drink a lot of water and it should go away. If the scrubbing and water dosen-t help after like 3 weeks I would go see a doctor cause it could be something else. Good going for quitting. Good luck.
cuz ur male roomate is drugging u and doing sexual stuff to you while u sleep!! WATCH OUT!!
It may be gingivitis.
oh my why do you think that anyone can help you here without a 100000 mile long stetoscope you need to go to a doctor and have him lisin to your lungs take some caffie pills to stay up and then tommaro morning be at the doctor it could be canser (probbibly just an infection)
the nicotine is coming out of your lungs, now that you have seen it maybe this will help you stop for good. Good luck to you, I have not had a cig for 4 years and feel great! you should be about over the stuff coming out pretty soon, good luck! and CONGRADS!!!!
Are you grinding your teeth in your sleep?
See a dentist soon. You may have gingivitis or periodontal disease. I was told by a dentist that smoking can mask these conditions by preventing bleeding of the gums that might ordinarily tip you off to those problems.
Because your lungs and mouth is used to smoking so it bleeds!!
I m not sure, I am not a doctor, but my suggestion is you get to a doctor as soon as possible and get it checked out. Good for you on the stop smoking, that is a very difficult habit to break!

It-s been 2 weeks. Basically the longest I-ve gone without a cigarette in the past 13 years is the length of a transatlantic flight.

So what now? I-d like to communicate with people who have gone through this... I am using the drug -champix- ,which is working better than expected, and I-m determined to stop.

What will these next couple months be like?
hey hans...

congratulations on 2 weeks that-s huge!!!!... symptoms vary from person to person.. but i will bet you are already finding that smell and taste are much sharper.. visual perception to can be clearer.. some experience temporary insomnia..

the big thing i found out early on is that i needed some sort of support, if nothing else than to answer such questions, as you are asking.. in addition i found that a support group gave me, well support..lol .. helped me through several tough times.. i attend meetings of nicotine anonymous both online and locally.. you are welcome at meetings smoking or not.. good luck on your quit. in the end there is simply no wrong way to quit..

It takes most people between 2 to 4 months before they stop thinking that they need a cigarette on a daily basis. It’s important to keep a positive attitude throughout your journey to stop smoking for good. Not allowing negative thoughts to enter your mind regarding smoking is extremely important to your success. It’s also important to stay away from other negative influences like other smokers who can’t respect your choice to quit. It’s important to believe in yourself and know that you can beat your tobacco habit.
You will feel anger, sweating - some depression.
But its only for few weeks. You just take healthy diet.

Don-t take even a cigerete if you really wana stop it otherwise 4get about it.

For all the ex smokers out there, what method did you use to finally quit smoking for good? -

My New Years resolution is to quit for good. I gained twenty pounds during my last two failed attempts, what method worked for you?
I quit 6 weeks ago yesterday, I just stayed away from smoke, and felt the health benefits as the days went by, and seriously - you start feeling better after just one day.

Try it, and keep on going. You don-t need patches and gum - that-s all crap, you could end up addicted to that stuff too.

Just quit and forget about them! It-s not like you cant survive without them is it?

I did read the book by Alan Carr - The easy way to stop smoking, that helped. Good luck and break the dirty habbit!
I picked a day, cold turkey, and used St. John-s Wort for anxiety instead of grabbing a cigarette.
get pregnant.
ask ur dr for chantix i am on my second week of it it is awesome i am only smoking like three a day maybe it tottaly plays with the mind to make it taste bad to u but is not a anti deppressant good luck
Cold turkey and a great gym membership
I had to quit pretty much cold turkey. I just didn-[t buy another pack and tried to make the one I had last. It worked for me.
I quit cold turkey. Since I was used to having something in my hand I started eating the sugar free lollypops. I have not smoked in 2 years last month.
this might work:

instead of smoking the whole cigarette, only smoke half and throw the rest away. then only smoke a fourth. it worked for me.

i haven-t smoked in about 3 years. in fact, just being around smoke is enough to make me gag.
Chantix, it works great.
I have found that if I did something healthy like taking a vitamin or a little walk or just a 5 minute breather helped a lot. I also used the patch for the first 2 weeks. As time goes by the cravings decrease little by little. There is a lot of on line support groups that can give ideas as well. Just keep the final goal in mind and before you know it weeks will have passed and you just won-t think about it any more!!! Good Luck I hope that you are successful!!!!!!!!!!!
I just stop and did not look back.
all you need is will power i started smoking when i was twelve until i was 21 then i decided to quit becuase all i was doing was buying death when death comes to us all so why pay
black coffee and daily exercise, you want your body to reject bad things like smoke, one way is to eat better and exercise
I did the same thing you did, only after the third time, I just didn-t want to have to go through the misery again. So it-s been almost 2 years, and what keeps me from going back is that I don-t want to do it again..P.S. I also replaced my nicotine addiction with caffeine...I drink coffee like crazy when I get a craving.
I took up crack.. but thats just me.

Just kidding. I dont smoke, never will.
I don-t suggest my method. I got sick and couldn-t smoke for 6 or 8 weeks. I didn-t start again. I had recently got married, and shortly after I contracted mononucleosis. My throat was so sore I could barely swallow water, and smoking was out of the question. Prior to that, I was smoking 2 packs a day. That was in 1980, and I haven-t smoked since then. Good luck to you!
I had several friends who went and had laser surgery to quit smoking and after that they never went back.
Substitute it with sex. You-ll enjoy it plus get a work out.
cold turkey ! I ate fruit whenever I had the urge to smoke and jumped rope to keep the pounds off.

Just a thought though !
Try to stop having smokes at specific times- this was also helpful.
First try no smoking in the car, then no smoking on the phone, then not after meals, then not after sex-by eliminating these -frequent smoking periods- you will reduce your smoking pattern and quitting cold turkey will be less stressful.
Cold turkey
Cold Turkey. Most drastic, but I-ve been smoke-free for 4 years today!!!
Fear my grand father died of throat cancer caused by smoking. Or becoming prego works too
My wife, who was then my fiance, forcing me to quit or else she would dump be because I smelled like an ashtray. Basically, cold turkey and a lot of medidation.
I smoked 40 cigarettes a day and found it very difficult to quit. When my 3year old daughter developed sleep apnoea I blamed it on my smoking and was able to quit for her sake. It turned out it was her adenoids not my smoking, but I haven-t smoked now for 13years. You need to find a good reason to quit and constantly think about it.
I quit cold turkey.Once you past the three day mark your golden. But for me I didnt mind gaing a few extra pounds.which happened to be 10lbs.As long as I stayed away from people who smoked and/or offered me a ciggarette then I-d be fine.
Good Luck
The last time i tried I didn-t want to gain a bunch of weight either so in steed of candy or gum I took up chewing ice - That worked for 6 months but everyone in the house was smoking so I went back - I-m weak - going to try again.
Good Luck
Try abstinence from cigarettes during your follicular stage of menstruation. It will cause less intensity of withdrawal symptoms. If you abstain from cigarettes during the luteal stage of menstruation, u are more likely to have more intense withdrawal symptoms because withdrawal to nicotine is similar to PMS.

I am not really an ex smoker (used to be casual smoker) but I have done research on this topic for graduate school.
I used the patch. It-s the only thing thats seems to help the craving for me. Try each method until you find one that helps.

How to quit smoking w/o meds? -

I need to quit smoking and cant seem to find anything that works for me yet.
I would firstly suggest that you stop thinking of quitting smoking as a difficult thing, unfortunately we now have an anti-smoking culture, people think of smokers as some great evil rather than victims of an addiction they do not choose to suffer from. This culture has influenced how we approach quitting, people think if smokers continue to suffer in order to smoke then they must enjoy smoking thus quitting will deprive them of something so will be difficult, when logically the fact smokers suffer should make quitting easier. There are actually laws and policies in place so methods that don-t require willpower are restricted, it-s believed huge willpower must be required to break away from smoking, being told this is hardly motivation to quit! It-s less about willpower, more about understanding the nature of the addition to overcome it.

I-d recommend EASYWAY, sure it sounds like some lame form of self-help, I suppose it is, however it has a - 90% success rate - and once quit with Easyway very few go back, I-ve yet to meet someone who didn-t agree that this was the best method they had found. Easyway like it says is -easy- as there is no willpower required, there is no suffering weight gain or bad moods after quitting, and no constant longing for a cigarette, instead you feel positive from the first day you quit. The method works by dealing with the mental addiction rather than the chemical, after all smokers can go all night without being woken up by cravings, nicotine may be highly addictive but the withdrawals and cravings are minute, it-s all mental. A lot of it is really common sense but it-s that common sense that the addiction cancels out, sure you know it will kill you and it costs a fortune but you still continue, that darn addiction is overriding your own brain. Easyway program kicks that addictions grasp on your logic and deprograms the brainwashing about quitting being difficult or social dependancy on having a cigarette in your hand, you can then quit successfully and happily without and ill effects or feeling deprived of your cigarettes. The course comes in different forms, you can by books from Amazon used or new from another seller for practically nothing, I tend to buy copies for £3-£4 to give away, the books also give you a 20% discount from the clinics. The clinics are the main program, they cost around £220 but they offer a full money back guarentee and you can go back as often as you need to, the books contain the same information as the clinics but the books are in a different format and without the one-to-one support.
http://www.allencarrseasyway.com

There are of course other methods, tips to help you quit, most are about as much use as, well, as continuing to smoke is to your health. Sure some methods work for some people, it-s just luck to find one that works for you...no, strike that, with the right mental attitude anything can work, thus it is luck to be able to find that mental attitude because heaven knows it can be years between attempts to quit.

If you go cold turkey then I recommend coffee as it feeds your bodies addition to caffeine so gets rid of the caffeine cravings which in turn takes the edge off nicotine cravings, the bitterness puts you off smoking, and coffee is good for helping clear all that junk that will be coming off your lungs – don-t try this if you-re used to a smoke on your coffee break. Avoid quitting with friends, if one of you fails then it just gives you an excuse to stop trying too, by all means find a local support group with other smokers trying to quit to give you some support. If you find yourself laying in bed reflecting on how much you want to quit then get up and write it down because in the morning you are sure to forget those thoughts and feelings.

Other methods include the mouthwash, this is otherwise known as evil juice of doom, it is like the bad tasting stuff you put on your nails to stop you biting them, you use this sprayed onto your tounge so when you smoke it makes it taste disgusting. Herbal cigarettes are totally great as they keep your mouth and hands busy, they look like normal cigarettes although are lighter and don-t contain the million or so additives of normal cigarettes that would probably kill you faster than the tobacco itself. The problem is that being a smoker your sense of smell would likely be a little off, when smoking around other people they will soon make you aware that these herbal cigarettes smell like excrement.

It has been proven it takes 21 days to form a habit and 21 days to brake one. I sugest U put a hair rubberband on your wrist and try to stop all together through out all temptations aka cegerites and try to go 21 days without them. Every time u have a smoke change the rubberband to your other wrist and u have to start all over the the next day. It might take months to compleat 21 days of not smoking. Also when u buy a pack right the price and date down, once u quit or earlyer total up the amount u spent once u quit that total will be how much u saved by quitting. U will be surprised at how much spend on cegerites
I struggled to quit for a long time, but never was comfortable with pills or patches. And at the end of the day, I found an intelligent way to quit smoking.

The important thing is to realize that smoking creates strong emotional bonds - and it is these bonds that need to be severed. Physical cravings only serve to wake up memories of the emotion...

Once that realization and awareness sets in, it is then important to reframe your thinking about smoking. Instead of saying -I am stressed and therefore I smoke- say -I am stressed but there are other ways to deal with it-. This shift in thinking is important.

Good luck, and if you want to learn more, go to http://www.wisdomtoquit.com
Nah, none of these will work. You need a combo of will power and....nicotine gum. Start off by chewing the gum and smoking so you-re used to the taste. Then whenever you get the urge to smoke, just chew a piece of gum.

Set a date to stop and then once that date comes, just stop smoking. You-ll be used to the gum and trust me, it does work. I did this method and haven-t smoked in over 3 years. I never thought it would be possible, but it is.

You-ll crave it for three months, but once you get past the three-month-mark, you-ll hate smoking. I can-t stand it now. It-s putrid. Then after three months just stop with the gum.

This will definitely work. And don-t hang around smokers when they are smoking. It-ll kill you. Plus you-ll notice a difference in the way your clothes smell; breath and how much more easily you can breathe.

Good luck.

How come it is so hard to quit smoking? -

I have tried almost everything, and still I can-t quit. I kept a journal, I tried cold turkey, I tried gradually, patches and still I can-t quit. Personally, it seems like a bad cycle. Instead of quitting, I-m smoking more. It-s like this. I manage to stop smoking for a week, but the following I smoke twice as much. And I can-t stop again for a month. And each time I try, it gets harder. I am so down, where I am losing hope that it is even possible to quit...
There is only one true way. You must want it. You must have a will so strong that you need no smoking. You must wake up every morning knowing that you dont need to smoke, knowing that you want to quit, knowing it would be better for you and everyone. Cold turkey sounds hard, but weening off does NOT work. To quit something, you simply do. Today, and from this day forward, you dont smoke. you used to smoke, you used to enjoy it, but now, you are simply not a smoker anymore. When someone asks, do you smoke, do not answer with i used to, as this leads to the excuse cycle that gets you started again -one more wont hurt, the rest didnt-. Answer with nope, dont touch the stuff. Just become a non smoker. Instead of trying to do something, try not doing something - smoking. If you can get it to become something you just DONT do, then your mental addiction will slowly fade. All those patches, all those treatments and detox centers are to help you get on your feet, to get in control of your addiction, not to keep you off of the drug. If you come to the point at the end of those programs where you must leave and deal with it on your own, means you must realize that this is not a 5 minute fight. You will be fighting this addiction, this curse, for the rest of your life, it never goes away. YOU are all you have to stand in the way of your bad habits, because if you have to smoke that one cigarette, after all the work you went through to go clean, then why even try to quit in the first place?
It-s a scientific fact that nicotine is the most addictive substance known to mankind. It-s harder to kick the habit of nicotine than it is to quit cocaine or heroin. I quit smoking cigarettes years ago, and it wasn-t easy, but I kept uppermost in my mind how I was no longer going to make the dealers in death rich anymore.
Best of luck!
Here-s what helped me quit: coming down with severe bronchitis twice in a row. My lungs were so bad I couldn-t even lay down in bed -- I had to sit up. I had to sleep sitting up! Being that sick really made me reassess my life.

Try this: do something like running or hard biking or swimming that really makes you breathe hard. Just evaluate how long it takes for you to be out of breath. That will probably help to bring home how much you-re damaging your body.

The next time you quit, tell everyone around you that you-re quitting. They-ll give you support and encouragement.

Also remember that it-s really hard to stop smoking. Keep trying, and good luck!
Let me tell you this, and keep it in mind FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE- If you started smoking, you would-ve never been worrying about stopping.

I quit smoking 10 weeks ago and the stress is gettign worse? -

im havign mood swings that are sending me insane, really bad ones that i didnt have anything remotely close to when i was craving nicotine,im not really crving much now but i feel manic and stressed beyond belief.

any tips or stories or ideas on how long this lasts if its smoking related?
It sounds like you did this cold turkey. The first 3 weeks seem to be the hardest. It will get better. Be kind to yourself. Let yourself vegetate and do things that will distract you such as watching a ton of t.v., playing video games, reading magazines etc...Drink ice cold water. Take a daily vitamin supplement. Your body will love you for it. Your body is trying to repair the damages right now. Just remember that you have made a great decision and soon this will be old news. If it continues past what you believe you can tolerate, talk to a doctor.:)
I would personally recommend you to try Nicorette. Nicorette understands that all smokers are different, that-s why they offer the widest range of nicotine replacement products to help you stop smoking in the way that is best for you. Whether you are planning on giving up smoking completely or just want to cut down the number of cigarettes you smoke, Nicorette can help.

Nicorette works by giving you a small amount of nicotine, but without the dangerous effects of inhaling tobacco smoke. This helps relieve the withdrawal symptoms and cravings for a cigarette that you get when you stop smoking, and allows you to get on with breaking the psychological habit of smoking.

If you are physically addicted to nicotine, using Nicorette has been shown to almost double your chances of successfully quitting smoking.
Well done, you should be proud of yourself, your doing great. It can only get better. The mood swings and stress will eventually go, just don-t be tempted to think you can have just one cigarette to feel better, it will only restart your nicotine dependence. Remember its the nicotine that causes all them feelings. Once you get over them properly you wont get them again, its a fantastic feeling to be free of them, you-ll look better, feel better and have a lot more money. There-s nothing to miss. Good luck and be strong.
Well done you, my husband quit 3 weeks ago and is having really bad mood swings, even with the patches. Its getting to the point where i would prefer him to move out and come back when he-s in a better mood. I am currently a smoker but have cut down to 11 a day, but i do a long day normally 18 hours so pretty pleased with the reduction. Want to give up but will wait for husband to clean from it first.....it would be carnage other wise lol!!! Keep at it, your doing brilliant, may be you could speak to the NHS smoke help line they may give you some advice, or do something like go to the gym to take all your stress out
Though 10 weeks really isn-t that long. ( I know its a freakin eternity for you) Your body is still craving what you are depriving it of. It-s my belief (from experience) that the first 3 days of a quit are easy - after that it-s hell for 3 - 4 months. I cryed every time I had to go to the store knowing I could - but couldn-t - buy cigs. By 3 - 4 months I caved =(

Stay strong!
Hang in there and good luck to you.
I don-t recommend substitute drugs. that will make it worse eventually.
A friend of mine used fake cigarettes. u know.. made of filter and nothing else. apparently smoking through something like a filter alone can bring down the anxiety. drinking a LOT of water or tea is helpful too. because after quiting smokin you feel the need to have your throat busy all the time (don-t laugh I don-t mean that) so you might start eating more than before...
anyway... the best way is the healthy. all the rest would only work for a while.

hope this helps
Sorry I can-t help you. I-ve tried to quit so many times, I-ve lost count. I do remember though, the first month was the hardest thing ever !!
The -experts- say it only lasts for 2 weeks, but I-ll bet they never smoked, in the first place !!
Speak to your doctor or pharmacist as nicotine patches could help your mood swings and you could gradually reduce the use well done for your perseverance to date. good luck it is worth it.
If you are stressed..particularly at work....watch this

and be thankful you are not this guy
It lasted a few months for me...but im stuck on nicorette now..and it-s almost gonna be a year! That damn stress can last a few months..me its ok now...just think about something else!
i think this will be smoking give it 6 weeks + think positively good luck
Meditate, practice yoga! It will make you relax
Just ride it out!
I stopped in june and i-m really cool now!
I remember that I had a dramatic personality change when I quit. Quitting was necessary for me and it was not easy. I needed a replacement for my smoking. I decided that I would learn to play saxophone. i went out - bought a used alto sax. I didn-t have any wind in me so I decided i needed to walk every night. Went out - got some good running shoes. Went to the track - tried to walk around - I got tired fast - it hurt in my chest - out of breathe, legs, arms, every where - even though it was barely the long side. I didn-t even get all the way around. I went back the next night. And the next night. After about 2 weeks, i was walking 2 - 3 laps - then quitting. I tried to blow that sax - made some very strange sounds. I still missed my nicotine - I was not very happy at work - even angry which is very much out of character. After a couple of months, I ran almost the entire straight - ran not walk - it hurt, burned, labored in my lungs - I walked a bunch of laps - quit. I wrote my number of laps on the calendar every evening and now it was to be split into W / R - 12 / 1/4 to start. It took almost 6months or more to finally run - jog / I was not fast - 4 times without stopping. My saxophone playing did not improve and someone didn-t like my music - the sax was stolen when someone broke in when I was at work. I didn-t get a new sax but I bought some better shoes - kept doing the walking - running. By the end of the year, I had been doing my daily evening walk/run 6 days every wk and I was now jogging 4miles - 16 laps - before I tired - walked. It was feeling good - I no longer had the desire for smoking. I had never been an athlete or jock when I was in school but at 35 yrs old - I quit - without realizing it I became a runner. I ran for 20yrs in 5Ks, 10Ks, half marathons - even a few marathons.

You will do OK since you have come this far.... 12 weeks is 1/4 of a year

What is the easiest way to quit smoking!? -

other than the patches - gum. I-m tired of wasting all my money on cigarettes, especially because the prices keep going up. - they-re making my really bad headaches, worse! PLEASE HELP! highly appreciated. btw. it-s obviously not easy for me, i smoke too much - i want to quit really bad. i just don-t know how. again, no patches OR gum.
hi melissaaa..

quitting is seldom easy for anyone.. i know it wasn-t for me..i smoked for over 40 years, before i found a way of putting them down.. i tried the patches, the pill, and a number of different concoctions, from the health food stores.. with little success..

i now have over 5 years freedom from nicotine, because i quit trying to quit alone!!.. the one thing that i found that finally helped me quit, was participation in a support group.. that worked when other methods failed.. the support of others who were trying to quit, as well as the advise of older more experienced members, was just what i needed..

i am a member of Nicotine Anonymous, and attend meetings both on line, and locally.. you are welcome to attend before attempting a quit, all are welcome smoking or stopped.. on line voice meetings are as close as your computer..

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.

Anybody trying to quit smoking? -

I am trying to quit smoking and could use some moral support from people who know what I-m going through? Any other addicts or successful quitters out there?
I know it seems stupid, but I brought one of those e-books about how to quit permanently without any sort of nicotine replacements. For about a week I was convinced I had wasted my money... but it actually worked. I mean man did it work.

I-ve now been smoke free for a year and I never gained weight or used any replacements. E-mail me i you-d like the address to the site I got it from.
I donot know do u really wanna to quit?

Addicts is nothing it represent illness of will power of a person.
If u really wanna to quit increase ur will power and take alternate. When ever if u are feeling to smoke u keep ur mouth busy like keeping some chocolates, toffees, chewing gums etc.

But lastly i want to say ur will power is neccessay and do some excercise.

mail me if u liked my opinion at

PLEEEEASSE QUIT!! I quit about a year ago after multiple tries. I was one of those -Oh I just can-t do it- people. But you can do it and you will feel so much better in the long run. (and smell better too) It will be hard for a while but it will get easier just hang in there and think of the money you-ll save! Take it from a girl who knows It is worth every agonizing moment of it!!!
I-m trying (puff - puff) but not doing too good. Thinking about trying hypnotism...Lotsa Luck !

Any good tips on how to quit smoking??? -

DONT BOTHER UNLESS YOU REALLY REALLY WANT TO. IF YOU ONLY HALF HEAREDLY WANT TO DONT WASTE YOUR TIME AND OTHER PEOPLES CIGS CHEW GUM LICK LOLIPOPS AND READ BOOKS CHOP UP CARROT STICKS AND NIBBLE THEM ALWAYS --- GOOD LUCK
Just do it! But, do you really want, too. You must want to stop. Nobody is going to stick a cig in your mouth and make you smoke it but you. You have to decide that you will never do it again. It is simply a change in you mind. If you don-t make this change, you might say that you won-t buy them, but you will end up bumming them. And, this will lead to you buying them again. You just have to stop. Otherwise, take responsibility for yourself, knowing that one of those puffs are going to be the one that causes the small cell carcinoma in your lung that grows for the next 10-20 years before it even gives you a problem, and then by then its too late. You will have a 5 year survival. Good Luck!

My bf is in another country now, want him to quit smoking but he is waiting till...? -

I just need him to quit i hate smoking and its not healthy at all plus he has heart problems i fear ending up with serious big problems! I love him and i do care about him alot so shall i wait till we be together in 2 years or gent;y tell him to keep trying now??help?
TERA answered the question beautifully.
In addition, you must remember that 80% of smokers want to quit. Almost all of them say they will quit sometime in the future. If they are going to quit in the future, why don-t they quit now? Do they think it will be easier in the future, when they-ve had a few more months or years of addiction? No, they surely know that it will be harder. They just don-t want to address it now, and having a nebulous plan to quit sometime in the future allows them to avoid confronting it now.
You are probably not going to logically reason your b/f out of smoking. He didn-t start smoking for logical reasons. He didn-t start smoking in anticipation of a lifetime of addiction and efforts to quit.
Nagging won-t help, threatening won-t help. You have to be his parner in the quitting process. Recognize also that he will probably quit about six times before it finally sticks. And the urge to smoke will never go away. I personally know three people who quit smoking in their twenties and started again 25 years later.
Smoking is probably the hardest addiction to overcome. Many alcoholics and drug addicts are able to quit these habits and still can-t give up cigarettes. They are powerfully addictive, physically and psychologically. It-s great that you care so much about his health. Just realize that it-s going to be very, very hard for him to quit. The damage that smoking causes is usually very slow...takes years to progress...so it-s easy for a smoker to live in denial about the serious risks to their health. The best thing you can do is to encourage him toward quitting in a loving way. Maybe you can give him literature on the subject, or a book on it...remind him that you love him and you just don-t want his health to suffer. But don-t nag at him...try not to make him feel ashamed that he has this addiction. It-s not about a lack of will power or a moral issue, he doesn-t have a weak character. Addiction is a disease. You wouldn-t shame a diabetic for having diabetes. And you can-t force him to quit. All you can do is be encouraging (in a positive way). Good luck!
