Im trying to quit smoking. i also have a cutting problem. when i try to quit smoking i get more of an urge to? -


cut. and when i try to quit cutting, i smoke a lot more. i need to quit my bad habits. i get very sick all the time from smoking the way i do and i hate having to constantly wear something that goes over my arms so no one around me thinks im crazy. its just the way i cope with these things.

can someone give me suggestions to possibly quit BOTH of these things without getting a -professional- involved??
There is no sure-fire answer that will work for all people, but I-d be happy to tell you what worked for me. It-s a plan that will take awhile to get through, but it-s probably the most pain-free way of doing things.

1 - Set a date that you would like to START the process of quitting smoking. Make that date at least 2 weeks from the day you decide the date. While doing this, if you are not on a schedule with your smoking, get on one. Get your body used to having a certain amount of cigs at the same time, everyday.

2 - When your body is adjusted to this schedule, rearrange your smoking schedule in a way where you drop 1 cigarette from your schedule. Stick to this schedule until your body is used to this schedule.

3 - Repeat step 2 as needed. This may take awhile, but that-s okay. Each cigarette you drop is one step closer to being smoke-free.

4 - When you are down to 1 cigarette per day, drop that cig. By now, your body has been conditioned to live with a very small amount of nicotine, so dropping that last cigarette won-t be as hard as it sounds.

5 - You will probably crave a cigarette after a particularly trying day. Whatever you do, don-t give in. You have to have will power for ANY plan to work, so make sure you bring your will power to the party.

The above plan may take awhile to work, but it-ll condition your body to live with less and less nicotine, so withdrawl and stress will be minimized.

As for cutting, the best thing is to keep yourself busy. Better yet, busy in a public place. Occupy yourself with something you enjoy doing. Don-t give yourself the chance to cut. Will power will come in handy here, as well. Feel the urge? Beat it. Win out over it!

Hope this gives you a good start. Don-t rush the quitting. Just take baby steps. Small steps will get you to victory faster than rushing it.

well uuhh i used to cut myself..
but i dont anymore.. and i guess i just stopped and created different better habits like writing poems... songs... talking to a friendd or somethingg and just take your ciggeretes awayy and don-t think of them try doing something active like running track soccer baseball stuff like that that will keep you busy..

Make yourself pay 20 dollars to charity every time you pick up a cigarette. That way, you will realize that you are becoming poorer and stop, and its good for charity!

Well, starting with quitting smoking, the best things you can do for that are getting some sort of nicotine patches or gum to decrease your cravings and help with withdrawal symptoms. Since getting your body off any kind of drug is both stressful and depressing (especially if you-re addicted to it), that should help out with the need to cut a little bit.

Also, try to keep your hands busy so that you-re not tempted to reach for a cigarette or sharp object. Part of why it-s so hard to quit smoking is because when you smoke, you-re constantly doing things with your hand. Try knitting or something small and intricate that will keep your hands moving and give you something else to concentrate on.

The last thing I would do is find something to chew on. Gum can be good, but it gets expensive. For a good crunch (and itty bitty health boost) go for in-shell salted sunflower seeds. Many people I know who have successfully quit swear by them.

You said yourself that cutting is the way you cope. So what do you need to do? Keep yourself from getting stressed out. Wean yourself off the nicotine instead of trying to go cold-turkey -- it-s just going to trigger a cutting session if you do it all at once, as you have seen yourself.
