I quit smoking four days ago, but in doing so gained a new addiction?? -
Yesterday, I don-t know WHY, I started chewing on a tube of flavored lip gloss, to the point of the product leaking out. I-ve had it in my mouth since then, but I have no desire for a cigarette. Is it just normal to chew on something or is there some addictive property of the lip gloss itself?
Normal to chew... Get some straws or drink stirs ( coffee stirs ) those are good to chew on
what you-re experiencing is called an oral fixation -- you-re used to having a cigarette in your mouth to relieve stress, and now that it-s gone you-re replacing it with other things.
it-s not exactly dangerous to do what you-re doing, but there are a few things you should be careful of. don-t chew anything hard that could chip or crack your teeth. don-t chew anything that might break apart into pieces you could swallow or splinter into sharp ends. all that extra chewing can also put unnecessary strain on your jaw joints and muscles, which can lead to pain and locking (quite unpleasant), and having something in your mouth all the time can actually shift your teeth out of alignment too.
it-s really best to wean yourself out of the habit. when you notice you-re chewing on something, don-t indulge. put it down. try to discipline yourself to not do it. it-ll take time and patience, but it can be done. in the meantime, be careful!
You-re just used to having something in your mouth. I-d try drinking straws or coffee stir sticks. Often, smoking addictions happen because of the need for something to have something in your mouth as a stimulant. Have you ever been diagnosed with ADD? It-s a common desire among ADD individuals to occupy their body physically all the time.
A lot of times the addiction of smoking is the oral fixation. As long as your keeping your hands and mouth busy, you really wont need the cigarette. I hope you are not doing it cold turkey because that`ll work for a week or 2 then suddenly you`ll have an urge so strong you`ll give in. Good luck to you and it`s better to chew on lipgloss then a cancer stick.
