Quit Smoking? -

How does one quit smoking when your wife smokes, ALL your friends smoke (and thoroughly enjoy it)!, If im not in the environment i have no problems but once im slammin a beer with the buddies and their all blowing smoke in my face i can-t resist!, Don-t ask me to divorce my wife and lose all my friends of 30 years!, Short of this i say it-s impossible or damn close to it!!!!!!!!!
i gave up smoking , just by luck. i went to get some acupuncture done for my back once,. and in passing conversation, the lady asked me did i smoke, and i said, yes, but trying to cut down or give them up. no sooner had i those words said, she added a few extra needles into my ear department. one week later, craving and want for fags had left me. and im grand since. maybe try something like that,. good luck.
Hi,

Great post! Quitting smoking was the hardest thing I-ve ever done in my life, and I thought I wasn-t addicted!

Here-s what I tried before finding success: hypnosis, those fake cigaretts, the nicotine patch, and group therapy....none worked.

I finally tried this HERBAL patch I bought 6 months ago on the net. They claim a 97% success rate. Well, it worked! They had a sweet deal which was a free 10 day trial for only $3.95 including shipping (it-s regularly $53 for 10 days)!!

I don-t know if they still have that deal, but it-s worth a try.

Good Luck
My husband gave up whilst I still smoked and because I and his friends knew how hard it was for him, we all agreed not to smoke around him. If we were at home, I would go outside or into another room (with the window open) to smoke. If your wife and friends care for you, they will support you as much as they can and not smoke around you. By the way, 5 years later, I too gave up smoking and it was the best thing I ever did. Good Luck and keep at it. Maybe your wife will give up too.
Your wife and friends love you, so I am sure that they would make an effort to see your success. However, you may have to stop going to the bars and find a healthier activity to do with your friends. As for your wife, ask her to smoke outside for a couple of months until you get better control with your addiction. It will be impossible or damn close near it if you do not do some life style changes. Best of luck.
smoking sucks u should quit asap

Best way to quit smoking?? -

Best way to quit smoking?? -

Im 23 male, ive been smoking since the age of 17. I just had a baby almost 6 months ago. I want to quit smoking but i really cant, what is the best method out there that you have used and suceeded? i prefer natural methods.
sun flower seeds
I work in a doctors office and the drug chantix has really helped our patients you should deffinitly ask you family doctor about it.
I used patches, it took quite a long time, and a fair amount of money, but it worked! I had been smoking for 30 years, so was a little surprised, but obviously very pleased! If you want to offset the cost of whatever assistance you choose, I would inform the media of your giving birth, I-m sure they would pay for your story!
Good luck!!
Quitting smoking is all about will power. If you really want it, believe it or not, you have the ability inside you to quit right now. Let your new baby (congrats!) stand for inspiration to quit. Use the patch but make sure you control yourself. If you dont smoke for 3 days, you will stop about 85% of the cravings. Also, try keeping yourself busy. Chew gum, eat, tap your feet, etc.
Try sitting down and smoking a whole pack without stopping. You will become so sick you will not be able to smoke again.
Hmmmmmmmmmmm, I would have to say cold turkey. Try using gum, that helped me.

And did you mean your partner had a baby or are you trying to be funny?
As a smoker, i find it very hard to stop also. Not sure of any natural methods, but i know alot of people stopped smoking using Zyban. You do need a prescription but it-s worth it! Good luck, also with your new baby!!
Fight it!! stop smoking.. chew gum instead. And not nicotine gum.. regular gum..sugar free:) And think of your child. Do you really want to fill his little fresh lungs with your smoke?? theres enought smog as it is.. dont add to it.
Chewing gum, biting your fingernails, switching to prime-times, or the feared cold-turkey.
Hats off to you for wanting to quit. I-ve heard Chantix works well if you follow the whole program.
I went for hypnosis and quit for 7 years.
cold turkey. write a list of reasons to not smoke and put it on your fridge. lung cancer, second hand, stinks, bad teeth, costs lots of money, make you die quicker, ash trays are icky and dangerous, not a good role-model, etc. etc. and just be proud of yourself for doing it!
My boyfriend is 22 and he has been smoking since 15, I been wanting him to quit so bad..but he isn-t ready. You have to wait till you-re ready and if you are then I suggest:

1.Put mustard seeds on the lungs and tape them with plaster, also rub the spot.

2.Drink a lot of water, that will help you to quit smoking and will clean your body from the toxic.

3.Every time you have the urge to smoke, put some salt of the tip of your tongue. Repeat for 1-2 month.

4.When you feel an urge to smoke, take a gum or a candy.

5.Drink a lot of celery juice and carrot juice, that will reduce the urge for cigarettes.

6.Work out daily.
Take 200 mg. twice a day of coenzyme Q10 this is a powerful antioxidant that protects the lungs, the heart and increases oxygen to the brain.

Take grape seed extract to repair lung damage.

Smoking breaks down vitamin C therefore it is very important to take 5,000-20,000 mg. of vitamin C a day.

Vitamin E is a very important antioxidant needed to repair cell damage cause by smoke.

Vitamin A helps repair the mucus membranes which are damaged by smoking.

For cravings take cayenne desensitizes the respiratory linings to tobacco and chemical irritants. It-s an antioxidant that stabilizes lung membranes preventing damage. The warm peppery taste reduces cigarette cravings.

Ginger and lobelia prevent nausea and helps quitting reduces anxiety ginger produces perspiration which helps to shed toxins generated from smoking.

Lobelia Relieves withdrawal, including irritability, hunger, poor concentration. It contains alkaloids similar to those in nicotine, occupies same brain receptor sites and exerts nicotine like effects without the damage that nicotine causes, this reduces cravings, and creates aversion.

Oats reduce or eliminate tobacco cravings, also, they reduce number of cigarettes desired even in those people not trying to quit.

Drink orange juice

I wish you the best. God Bless!
Acupuncture combined with hypnotherapy is what worked for me. Chewing on real black licorice helps. A pharmacist once told me there was something in it that mimicked nicotine.
First figure out how much you are smoking and when. Then VERY slowly cut down.
So say you are smoking 7 cigs a day, cut it down to 6 a day and keep it at that until that is no big deal. Then cut down to 5 until it is no big deal.
The time period is different from person to person but it could be a week, a couple of weeks or a month or two.
You really have to shoot to succeed with this.
So when you are down to one a day, the next step should just be going a day, then maybe two days and working for multiple days in a row before reaching a week.
Also, figure out if there is a trigger such as smoking while you are drinking alcohol or drinking coffee.
See if you can cut out one of those. If you can-t, then make sure you don-t get to drunk -- inhibitions will be down, and try to be very aware of your weakness while partaking in these activities. If it is standing around others who are smoking, remove yourself from that, and make smoking a solitary thing. Don-t allow yourself the social aspect of smoking. Once you quit for a while, the smell will be gross. But at first, it might be a bit inviting. Don-t be tempted, walk away.
remember the goal, you want to quit for yourself and your child.
It will be very hard for a while. Especially after you are down to no cigarettes a day (whether for just a couple of days or all the time, see above) For a while you will still crave cigarettes. But it will get easier.
The hardest thing is to not slip. Keep the goal in mind. The longer you have gone without, the easier it will become.
Always remember what your triggers are, and remember that if you want it and have been off for a while, you don-t want to step back to having to quit again.
This is tough, but if you want to -- you will do it. But you won-t be able to succeed unless you want to, and you recognize it is difficult, but something that is do-able.
Good luck
Find something that will take the place of a bad habit. Some ppl. say that it is habitual and non addicting. I say that is B.S.! I am on Chantex. I don-t have insurance. But , what you can do is contact Chantex manufacturer and they can assist you with your perscription cost. Mine is free. Good Luck. This works wonders. I have been smoking for 17 yrs. and just quit.
by far chantix i stopped in a week been smoking for 16 years
Chew gum.

I have asthma and I quit smoking over a month ago. Since then I have been taking my rescue inhalers more? -

I have asthma and I quit smoking over a month ago. Since then I have been taking my rescue inhalers more? -

than ever and a couple of times I found a few brown spots in my mucous. My cardio have been horrible for the past few months.

I am 42 and have smoked a pack a day for 9 years.

I wll tell my doc about this but does anyone have any idea what the problem is?
Probably where your lungs are trying to clean themselves up from all the stuff from your previous smoking. I don-t have asthma but when I quit for the first month or two I coughed up brown mucous all the time it was horrible. You have little things in your lungs that clean them over night as you rest and when you smoke it destroys them so when you stop smoking they have to restore themselves causing it to be hard to breathe and it causes you to cough up a lot of brownish mucous. Yeah, that was confusing my bad :P

EDIT:

But yeah, I-d definitely tell the doctor. Until then try going into the bathroom and turning your shower completely hot and keep the door closed. The steam should help your lungs break up the mucous so you can get it out making it easier for you to breathe.

Hope this helps!
yes, your lungs are clearing themselves and for a few weeks, you-ll actually cough MORE and get rid of MORE mucous, so I can see where you would have to use the inhaler more frequently. Talk to your Dr, though- I-m betting the problem will start clearing up very soon. Good Luck- and congratulations for quitting!!!!
giving up smoking is good smoking cause cancer and asthma on top of that makes it worse see your doc asap

I quit smoking 3 days ago and cant concentrate at all? -

has anyone else been through this? is there anything i can do to improve my concentration. i have something really important to write requiring the most concentration ive ever needed and ive lost the ability to concentrate nearly all together. i feel like smoking again!!
I quit smoking a couple of months ago
to improve ur concentration, i chewed gum it took my mind off it.
throw any left over cigarettes away
and lock your lighter away
also get people to support u and if u reach for a cigarette make them tell you NO! sternly.

it helps. :D
Its nicotine withdrawal and you are reaching the end of it, dont smoke again or you will have to do through withdrawal another time.
Stick at it and slow down, you need to take something to slow your system down as its agitated because it needs nicotine.
You can either go to the doctors for something or you could try taking some paracetamol, I know it sounds daft but it sends signals to the brain that help with pain control so you are less likely to be agitated.
I gave up smoking a month ago now and I still fancy a cig so it takes a long time for your head to stop wanting one as in 3/4 days the nicotine withdrawal will start to ease.
Good luck and stick with it.
It is withdrawal from nicotine.

If the concentrating is getting too hard to do, maybe you should see a doctor and get nicotine patches. Or depending on where you are in the world, maybe a pharmacy or hospital can give you nicotine patches for free.

My housemate found she had to replace smoking with chewing for almost two months, the stress was that much. Not one pencil in my house was spared by her.

Get the help, and do not give in to having a smoke again, your three days down, it may get a bit harder but smoking is unhealthy and you are better to be not smoking.
Yeah its awful, I gave up three weeks ago and the first couple of days I went through really hard periods of just wanting a cigarette. Take five Min-s and just remind yourself again why you quit in the first place and realise that you WONT enjoy the cigarette if you do have one.

Good luck with whatever your writing.
Well done for stopping.

Get some polo mints and try to keep busy.

Remember, if you start smoking again you will stink and you will disappoint yourself.

Who-s the idiot that told you to start smoking again? What a d!ckhead.
Yeah, it-s normal, part of nicotine withdrawal. You-re at or close to the worst point -- it should get bettter within a week or two.
its called a withdrawal symptom and will usually lead you to go back to smoking
its normal stick too it

How do I get help for my son (16) to quit smoking? He doesnt want to but has a health condition.? -

His lung condition (spontaneous pneumothorax) can be very serious. Doctor-s orders are NO SMOKING. My son has cut down but not completely stopped.
Keep him busy. Create an environment that does not allow smoking. Every day he should wash the dishes, vacuum the house, dust, clean the toilet, do the laundry, wash all the cars, etc.
Make him physically understand that his behavior is unacceptable. You run the show. You are the parent...show him who is boss.
He-s 16! Where/how is he getting cigarettes? Cut off his supply and his money. ....You could also try taking photos of him a LOT...and when he asks why you-re doing that, tell him, -So I-ll have something to remember you by...-
I dont know but make him quit now...before it gets even more difficult to put them down.

Quit smoking now i can smell but i have issues? -

it stinks under my ball more is this normal i never noticed the smell before ?
When your smoking your nose is insensitive to odors. Now that you-re quiting, you-re sense of smell is getting better. The odor might be there before but you didn-t realize it.
Honestly, you can probably just smell a lot better now that you aren-t smoking and don-t have the constant scent of smoke stuck up your nose.
your what? balls? I dont think thats related to quitting.

I quit smoking 4 months ago and my allergies seem to be going crazy.....? -

its been 4 months and my allergies are going crazy... I feel that its worse now than when i was smoking....Has anyone else experienced this? and dont worry im never going to consider smoking again.... smoking sucks and I never want to be a slave to the cigarette again.... oh an if you do have an allergy problem do you use zyrtec or claritin? I am currently using claritin but i dont think its working anymore. please share your thoughts....
Don-t waste time, money,or aggravation. See an Allergist a doctor that specializes in allergies. He will test you for WHAT you are allergic for so you can avoid the allergen-s,and give you the best advise. Remember that in spring there is much pollen in the air and that can be part of the problem. You even bring pollen into your house on your clothes and on your hair.So you will be exposed to it even indoors. Check your air condition filter too. For more at home info go to www.WebMd. Experience from member-s in my family. Good luck to you.
You can smell things again. Talk to your doctor about a med that might be better than anything you can get otc. Generic Benadryl has always worked fine for me, but my allergies don-t act up often and I tend to only have to take something a few times a year, when exposed to a particular allergen.
As a Doc slipping back into the smoking can happen.
To prevent it try Chantix

Im trying to quit smoking, any brands recommended? -

im currently trying to quit smoking, i live in the toronto area. Can anyone recommend any brands that r not as strong or addictive as most brands? (i do kno all brands r bad for u) but i dont wanna smoke the menthols.. or the extra extra light stuff? but does anyone have any recommomendations to a less addictive or lighter brand of cigarettes to help quit with?
You can try Ultra Lights but I would start using Nicoderm patches. I-ve been on them for a few weeks and haven-t smoked. I-m trying to quit too.
I quit smoking last year in February and I feel great. If I can quit anyone can. The real trick to quitting smoking is to simply quit cold turkey. You will feel better in a couple of weeks and then you never look back. Check out the www.whyquit.com website and read the on-line material. If you try to reduce your nicotine intake you will only prolong the addiction and make yourself miserable. Just quit cold turkey and as the book says Never Take Another Puff!!! (No gum, patches or anything with nicotine).
some tips there

at least 4 times a year - I would catch a cold easily too. I feel a lot healthier now, what do you take to stay healthy.
I have not smoked in 2 years and I feel GREAT! It-s the best thing I-ve ever done. To keep my immune system in check, I drink -Emergen-C- with juice
a small glass of whiskey every day and I never get sick maybe once a year from cedar allergies , but that is generally fatigue from depressed immune system
yes. when you first quit you caugh up icky grey stuff a lot because the hairs in your lungs are able to move more and get that stuff out. then after a week or so you start feeling better and you get sick a lot less aften.
I quit in 2000 and I stopped having chronic bronchitis almost immediately ! I also had problems with asthma and I have not had an attack since I quit ! I love drinking Orange Juice... lots of vitamin -C- !

I quit dipping Skoal on the 13th and quit smoking months ago, would one cigarette hurt me? -

Like lung wise? its been like half of a year since i had a cigarette, would it mess my lungs up inhaling again or would i be alright? I was smoking for about 3 years off and on
Quitting smoking is a great opportunity to learn about ourselves, as you have already observed.
Congratulate yourself on having the desire to stop - then you are over the worst, but still need to maintain your resolve. It-s just so easy to start thinking that just one won-t hurt, but it does. Just one achieves nothing except feeling the need for another. Whatever you do, don-t have just one.
Here-s a few home-brewed tips that might be useful.
It-s not just nicotine addiction - there are 50+ chemicals in cigarettes. Also the main problem is habit.
We have been used to having body sensations which we translate as -my body needs something-, which we have attempted to satisfy by having a cigarette.
When we try to stop smoking, we still get these -my body needs something- sensations, and we still feel that we want a cigarette. We have to train our body to be more selective. When we feel we need something, we have to work out what it is that we actually need.
A glass of water is an excellent substitute if nothing else comes to mind, as it helps with the clearance of the toxic substances in our body. Another good substitute is a bag of salted peanuts, used in combination with the water.
Another thing to do is to find an activity which occupies the mind or body. Go swimming - nobody wants to smoke while they are swimming. Slowly, as our body adjusts and translates the -want something- feelings into something other than cigarettes, then the feelings begin to go away. We know its not a cigarette that the body really needs, because as soon as we-ve had one we still have the feeling, and want another!
We will have a few bouts of feeling or even being short tempered. We must try to bite our lip, and control; ourselves. Recognise the short temper as being the removal of toxins which are trying to find a way out. They went in through the mouth, and they try to get out that way to. We must learn to keep our mouth closed, and force the toxins out the other way.

After we have stopped for a while we will begin to feel that just one wont to any harm.
All that leads to is a desire for just another one. We must guard very strongly against the desire to have just one.
Can you really smoke just one?!?

Each time you quit it gets harder. Any time I feel tempted to light up, I remember how hard it was to quit and say to myself -I sure don-t want to go through that again.-
what happened after you smoked your first one?
yup you will smoke for years to come if you fire up now
you-ll just start smoking again... how did you quit skoal???
lol.
no.
don-t go back to it.
because you will do it more and more.

is it really worth it anyways?
guaranteed .............one butt and you-ll be hooked again
It wont hurt you, but I dont recommend it. It may make you start smoking again. Im trying to quit right now, and its tough. If I had one, Id want another, and another.

Dont Do It.

If you managed to quit smoking, how did you do it? -

If you managed to quit smoking, how did you do it? -

The longest I-ve gone is 6 or 7 weeks before I get angry and start smoking again. If you were able to quit, how did you do it?
In 1995, after 30 years of smoking 1+ packs a day, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer and aditted to the hospital for surgery. Since smoking was banned in the hospital, I had my surgeon order the nicotine patch for me while I was hospitalized. I continued with the patch following discharge and after another 3 weeks of patches, I had no more cravings and have been nicotine-free for 14 years. Cigarettes are probably the toughest addiction to overcome. Good luck!
I guess this depends on how heavy of a smoker you are, but I did this:
1. Consider the amounts of nicotine in mg of your tabs of choice. Double this.
2. Buy cigarettes that contain twice the nicotine to your previous brand. You will notice that if you try to smoke as many as you did before, you start feeling quite sick and nauseous.
3. You will be able to cut down due to the reason stated above. Start by little, smoking only one tab less every day.
4. In about two weeks you should be able to stop.
Note this only works if you don-t already smoke the full strenght and have good self control.
I was ill when I came back from holiday in 2005 and every time I had a ciggie, I coughed which was very painful as I had pleurasy. I had thought that I should give up while I was under the weather before, but this lasted for a couple of weeks, it was also getting so antisocial (the indoor ban had just started in Ireland and they were saying they would bring it in over here very soon) that I thought it probably best not to go back to it. Now I am so glad I didn-t especially when I see people having to stand outside in the rain!! Its not easy but -cold turkey- worked for me but my hubby wasn-t going to be -dictated- by me so didn-t give up for a further 6 months and he had all the duty frees that we had bought back too..
I have tried those tablets that send messages to your brain and they worked in that I could stay all day at work and not want a cig once but the minute I came home I had to have one. I have now managed to give up though 31st March this year using patches and having one of those inhalators in my hand permanently.i don-t want a cig but if i go past where someones smoking I still like the smell.
I quit - cold turkye -, so no cigarettes anymore ... every time I felt I wanted 1 I thought of the bad taste and smell . That helped a lot
Good luck, I know its very difficult to stop smoking
I just decided one day I wasn-t going to do it again - no matter what. That was in 1978 and I haven-t smoked since.

I do not need cigarettes and i do not crave it anymore i was a chain smoker for 10 years, instead i smoke marijuana only once in a blue moon.
Congrats on quitting the smoking!!! I quit 2 years ago, it-s such a *****! As far as the weed goes as long as it-s not a dependency and your not hurting anyone to get it I say enjoy and toke one up for me!!!
So instead of overcoming a bad habit, you-ve replaced it with one that is equally as bad. Still bad for your lungs, still restrictive to your arteries, still can cause a stroke, heart disease, heart attack... If you were looking for a pat on the back, try again.
ok......................................… um... congrats?
Not sure what that has to do with smoking.. but yeah.. thanks for sharing.. have fun with that.
WTG on quiting cigarettes..So sorry tho that u had to pick up another habit.
That has to be better for you than chain smoking.

I quit smoking and now I have a drooling problem? -

Since I quit smoking, I produce more saliva...I-m healthier, and more saliva shows this. Problem is I-ve never learned how to deal with this much saliva.

Will it decrease over time? Or do I need to learn how to live with my drool? If I need to learn, how do I acquire such a basic skill?
Maybe drooling will come in to style, like male pattern baldness and bright green spandex on overweight women should, you-ll be ready before the rest of us.
I think that you-ll just have to deal with the drooling. It-s better than dry mouth, which causes bad breath, isn-t it?
carry around a rag
I think it is wonderful you don-t smoke anymore. I think you just have to deal with it you are healthier and your going to live longer. Be happy .
You need to find a doctor and ask about your drooling problem. Why deal with your problem if it can be prevented????? Doctors always have answers BUT DO NOT GO BACK TO SMOKING...... it is really bad for you. even worse than drooling.......please take my advice.

Anybody with advice on how to quit smoking without gaining wheight?
You might also want to talk to your doctor about chantix.

Here-s a comparison of the most common drugs used to stop smoking, including their effectiveness and their side effects.

good luck with your efforts.
quit smoking gradually, let say you smoke 10 cigarettes a day the next two days 9, after 3days 8.....

exercise don|t eat sweets too much..
Hi there !
Please visit the neares city hospital and see the sufferings of the patients undergoing treatment for -cardiac ailments- and
-malignancy of the oral cavity-....If feasible talk to couple of them....Majority will give you the past history of smoking ....
Immediately you can feel the -urge- flowing into you, which gets converted into the -enthusiasm- and the -boost- required for stopping smoking !
Think about the -better tomorrow- awaiting you, think about the loved ones waiting for you at home, ...naturally the enthusiasm flows in..right ?
(I was a chronic smoker myself....and stopped it abruptly after 15 years...nobody forced me...first two weeks..the temptations would be too much...but dont give way...think about the better future for you and your loved ones...Now I congratulate myself for having taken such a bold decision then...)
Now for you ...
today...now ....take the decision...
dont keep it for tomorrow...
okay ?
best of luck and best wishes too...
exercise more, the reason you gain weight is that you-re body doen-t have to work so hard to get the oxygen in your blood stream around, so you-ll have to burn those extra calories on your own.
I quit smoking about 5 weeks ago, its really, really hard, but if I can do it, sweety, I promise you, you can!

I gained about 4/5 pounds in the first 3 weeks, I ate as I would normally do and exercised, but still gained that little bit of weight, becuase, my metabolism slowed down. The good news is that I already lost that weight and Im so happy that I quit!

The key to quiting is to EXERCISE!!!! But also, If you want to avoid gaining anything, you should try to snack on healthy food, such as carrots. And if you do gain a little bit of weight, please dont be discouraged, You can loose it after your comfortable with not smoking. I promise you, its worth it!!!!
I went on Chantix and I have actually lost a little weight.. I quit August 16.. Good Luck
the only way is cold turkey i,d love to join you stopping but i,m rolling a cigerette as i type

I was trying to loss weight so i tried generic acomplia presricp. it is this new pill that is suppose to end obesity and may also curve smoking. I tried it for 30days and i didnt loose any weight but i could not stand the smell of cigs.. it has been 7 months now and i still do not even want to get near smoke... for me it did not make me loose any weight but i didnt gain it either and ended of quit smokin for good... even if i drink i don not have the urge
Chewing gum, water, water - more water and walk half hr everyday. I gave up 9 months ago, cold turkey and didn-t put any weight on because i found when i ate it made me feel like smoking more.... so i had a bottle of water with me always and let me tell ya... it works a treat!!! Just keep a bottle handy and sip it, then when you feel really peckish then go drink a glass full. Congrats, not easy but well worth it.

I just remembered... i drank lots of tea too.. because tea takes a while to drink, it kept me from raiding the cupboard. When i got really really bored and felt like eating for the sake of not smoking, i would make that cuppa and while i was drinking it i would remind myself how proud of myself i was/am.

Chantix
Buy More smoke less.I don-t mean smoke more.I mean buy a pack of cigarettes called More. I guarantee you smoke less or like I do I force a pack to last at least 4-5 days,if I-m traveling I may take1-2 with me.Certain foods/drinks make you crave for one so I try to wait and not smoke directly after eating whatever it is like CHICKEN(fried) PRAYING when I get a urge and can-t....Sometimes I look and say WOW I didn-t smoke yet;then I give Thanks...I can feel the difference already even though I never smoked more than a pack per day. This is my 3rd attempting to stop, the first 2 times I stopped for 6 months. Why did I start again,Birthday Bashes/Stress.....Medically: I don-t like the gum,I forget to wear the patch, got bored with the inhaler other then that COLD TURKEY or in my case Slow Turkey......Blessings Yahoo
Read up on it. Go to the local library and get some books on how people stop -bad and dangerous habits-. I quit a long time ago, and I made a list of benefits to quitting. I was saving, back then a couple thousand dollars a year! Cig.-s have gone up to $5.00 a pack and up! I would never pay that, not to mention the lung disease! I lost three friends in a row as a direct result of there smoking! Lung cancer , and complications to the respiratory system. Always think quality of life, how much better it-s going to be! You can do it!
By not smoking.Simple - isnt it. All it takes is self confidence. If you lack it you-ll continue to only ask such questions.Go ahead. After all its only a bloody habit, kick it.You are the master of your actions. If its other way round.Bye.
Ditto on the Chantix!

Both Hubby and I quit March 10th, and haven-t fallen back to it. It-s a bit expensive, but worth it.
Substitute it for another habit which is less harmful, such as drinking alot of coffee.
If you can-t make it by going cold turkey, then I-d go along with the previous answer....Chantix worked for me.

Is it normal after you quit smoking you have breathing problems? -

april 3rd it will be one year!
The smoking was the cause of the breathing problems. Some unfortunately are permanent damage done by cigarettes. I quit Nov. 16, 1986. Never regretted it, but I did a lot of damage to my lungs before I quit and still have those problems today. I-m much more susceptible to bronchitis and such now.
This probably has nothing to do with smoking. October through March are very bad respiratory months due to all the illnesses going around and the recycled air we-re breathing. I shouldn-t have the type this, but if these problems become serious and you begin having difficulty breathing you need to seek immediate medical attention.
yeah, but usually a lot sooner. The body starts kicking back the crap in your body. It-s been 10 months for you but this shouldn-t still be affecting you unless you have smoked for decades. Then you may be a bit asthmatic.
No. You may want to check with your doctor.

Do you remember when your immense cigarette cravings stopped.

When did the anger stop?

If you have sucessfully quit, did you try many times before. Did the succesful time seem different to the failed attempts. (i-ve had about 5 failed attempts)

I-ve stopped now for 4 and a bit days. (i think i quit for just over a week once before i gave in) For some reason this time, i know i can quit - and i know i-ll never have a cigarette again!
I quit after having pneumonia for three years in a row. During the time I was sick I couldn-t smoke and didn-t. When I started feeling better, the first thing I wanted was a cigarette. How stupid. I knew that if I could go without a cigarette for a week, I was over the physical withdrawal and the rest of the habit was in my head.
So, I put my cigarettes in the glove box of my car. Anytime I absolutely couldn-t stand it any long, I would go to my car, light the cigarette and take two puffs off it. (this was during the winter) Two puffs is all the nicotine your body needs, the rest of the cigarette doesn-t really do anything for you as far as habit or a fix is needed.
Then I put it out but kept it for the next time. I found that by doing this, I controlled the cigarettes, not them controlling me.
I also found that the length of time between light ups got longer and longer until one day I realized I hadn-t smoked at all for over a month. I left the pack in the car though, so that I still had control over them. Then one day, when I couldn-t stand the smell of a cigarette anymore, I tossed them.
I-ve been smoke free for 8 yrs now and HATE the smell. So I know this is lifelong for me.
No desire to smoke, don-t miss it or anything.

Oh, but I did chew gum for quite a while afterwards but don-t do that much anymore.

Good luck.......and remember, you have control over the cigarettes, not visa versa.
I went to Smoke Enders and stopped June 13, 1978.

-You-re a puff away from a pack-a-day-

Don-t test yourself. Even one will hurt.
I tried several time before I completely quited smoking. Anger was the top withdrawal symptom in my case.

I used a natural remedy -Crave-RX-. It was good in reducing nicotine craving and withdrawal symptoms. No harm in trying it since it is harmless and very effective. Good Luck!!

Visit the following source for further info.
I quit about 2 months ago. I have cheated a few times, taking one hit off a freinds ciggy, but otherwise smoke free. I still crave it sometimes. But everyday it gets easier.. and the best part about it all is I dont cough anymore and can smell everything! Good Luck to you- you can do it!
look up quitting smoking tips and see what might help u
usually 3-4 days is the peak for craving and irritability, my cravings stopped after about 2 months, i quit twice before and the 2nd time was a few years but when i started back i just smoked once in a while now im ready to quit for good- before i ate suckers, i had pretzels and light snacks to constantly munch on, went for walks- i-ve heard alot of people stop having symptoms after 3 weeks (it was like that for me) keep in mind what it does to your body, how u don-t have to depend on it, you-ll save money and breathing will be better, doing that helped me- good luck!
I smoked when I was in high school, unfortunately.

Then I decided I wanted to go a religious college that did not allow smoking. So I said, Fine, I can quit.

I put them down and never picked one up again. I never had cravings or anger.

You just have to inform your body that this is the decision you-ve made, get used to it.
I stopped for several times, but each time I stopped for a longer period. At the last time I used a special chewing-gum. When you used it and you smoked afterwards, the cigarette tasted awful.
Try it over and over again. If you really want it, you will succeed.
Good luck!!!
I only had mild cravings for about a week. No anger. No help. Just made up my mind to quit.
It-s been nearly 3 years I have been giving up and I still have the cravings unfortunately! i would love to have a cigarette but I also know that I if i try again I will be hooked and it was so hard to give it up that I d0nt want to have to go through this process again. And it is bloody too expensive anyway!
And of course I am now much healthier!

See a doctor for the latest medical help and be ready to quit. You really have to want to quit. let your dad know how much you love him and want him around. Tell him to think about how much money he-ll save.
My mom stopped cold turkey, anyone can do it!

I just quit smoking, what are ways I can slowly but surely repair my lungs? -

I just quit smoking, what are ways I can slowly but surely repair my lungs? -

The phlegm will get worse before it gets better, you will cough up brown tar for at least a week, and this can be more unpleasant than the smokers cough you might have already had. Be sure to treat yourself very nicely, hot baths to ease the congestion, soothing drinks of hot lemon with your favourite spirit, and lots and lots of fresh FRESH air - great lungfuls of it, at every opportunity.
Believe me, you-ll begin by coughing like an old horse, but within a few short days, your lung function will be on the way to normal. Then you will feel ready for those long Autumn walks in the country, a bicycle ride, run with the dog...

Talk to your nurse - get her to take a lung function test from you at this point, then get her to re-test you every few weeks, you-ll get a medical opinion on your progress and will obtain some invaluable support.

Well done, girl. Now you smell as sweet as you are.
your lungs naturally clean themselves every 3-7 days. so basically you just wait. i-m pretty sure the statistics are, lung function improved 60% in 6 months after quitting smoking. and just to say, the only reason you don-t die from the tar in cigarettes very fast is because your lungs clean themselves often, and are very efficient, considering tar is the stuff that dinosaurs drowned in.
I don-t think you could totally repair your lungs because smoking damages them pretty badly. But I would try to do some very lite exercise (like walking) to possibly rebuild stronger and healthier breathing habits.
Hi if you really want to quit smoking fast watch this video and make it favorite.

It-s not mine, but it is really good, and helpful.

Congratulations on having quit that habit. I-m not a doctor so I don-t know but I am sure they will be glad to give you some advise.
You don-t need to do anything special. Just don-t smoke again!
i dont think u can repair the smoke damage done

What side effects did you go through when you quit smoking? -

What side effects did you go through when you quit smoking? -

when you smoke you get mouth cancer and your lungs turn black so even though you been smoking for 2 years your lungs will also be black causing you to be ugly and have bad breath. you will also get black Bogart.

in second hand smoke you get cancer.
How?

imagine if there are like 50 people in a room and 25 people are smoking in a same room. ONLY 5 hours those people who doesn-t smoke gets second-hand smoke and get cancer. so when the looking for a job and they look for your x-ray they will find that you are smoking even if your not because of second hat.

my advice: If you have kids don-t let them see you smoke or don-t smoke near them they get second-hand smoke, and dont soke ever again! it destroys ou land!
i dont smoke but a nice side effect is death.
You cough, which is the gunk coming out of your lungs. Oh, and you can feel the blood rushing up and down your arms and legs and you just want to punch a hole in the freakin wall for about a week.
vomiting ,diarrhea, anal leakage, swelling of the plouwi region. Oh yea and night terrors.
Insomnia and irritability.
I remember having very tempting dreams of smoking while watching a Dallas Cowboy football game, where the cigarettes simply floated in the air from the packs of cigarettes in single file into my mouth, and I smoked them -hands free-. When I was through, that one automatically went to the ashtray and the next one simply moved into my mouth and was somehow automatically lit. It sure made me feel good in dealing with the tension of quitting smoking, even though I felt upset for having -failed- to quit smoking, but since it was just a dream, I realized I hadn-t failed, and have successfully quit smoking for years now. God Bless you.
slight head ache, craving when I-d smell my brand being smoked by some one else. it been well over a year, and I have no problem now. I quite cold turkey.
rage!
light-headedness, almost dizzy Antsy, easily irritated, mouth waters Not fun.... also, tend to dream about smoking.
Terrible, you name it you get it!!! Cravings to smoke, cravings for food, IRRITABILITY, it-s a terrible habit - I-ve tried pills twice that made me so sick I had to get off them, tried hypnosis, gum, you name it. Just can-t quit...
I didn-t have any! Just missed -em for a couple weeks. And I had been smoking for 13 years. Same with my husband. You just have to WANT to quit. You should be proud to say, -No thank you. I don-t smoke.- Just do it!! Good luck. :)

not much...
yoga-meditation is the best for quit smoking and much more......
It makes it harder to afford your cigarettes after wasting your money for the therapy.
I-ve tried just about every method there is out there and there is only one I can recommend - NLP! It eliminates the cravings.
Gum patches and all the other just did not cut it for me, not to mention cold turkey which was the hardest, I even tried the electric cig and it is just no match to the real thing.

I am a smoker and smoke about 1 pack per day. I really want to quit but I just cant seem to stop. How did you quit please detail me in. Also im not for taking any meds or nic gums or patch I want to do it nautral Please help me out.
Like the other two posts. I quit cold turkey 5 years ago. I set a date, told all my friends and also asked them for support. Before I knew it, I had a week, then a month and now I am 5 years without a cigarette. It is hard. No doubt about it. But if you truly want to quit, you will. Find other things to occupy your time. Go for a walk, read a book, suck on hard candy. Once I made to it day 8, I was home free. Good luck to you!
Hello
Going natural i think is the best way but maybe the hardest way and requires a strong will and mind

I smoked many many manymany years ago when I was quite young. One week I caught a cold and coughed up mucus out of my lungs. I spat it out and examined it. It was full of flakes of black ash. I thought -NO.- but I stopped smoking and as the days went on the black ash diminished in content and then disappeared.
I feel you pain brother i quit smoking yesterday for the 3rd time in a month!
