What is the best reason to quit smoking? -

to live, i mean really live,, to not be a slave to a cigarette, not to cough, not to stink, not to be an outsider, not to die a horrible death of not being able to breath, not seeing the pain in your loved ones eyes watching you die a slow death. is that best reason enough??
Your health and the amount of money spent on smokes plus if you have kids their health as well.
to not give your family (or anyone you live with) lung cancer
So you can have better quality of a life :)

Do it for you.

Do it for your kids.

Do it for your lovers.

Do it for Jesus.

Just put your mind to it, and let it go. Say NO. I will not continue letting a cigarette control my life. I control my life, IT doesn-t control me.
To keep the people around you that love you, from having to watch you die a slow horrible death. And usually, it drags on so long that towards the end, they just don-t want to deal with it anymore so both sides get very angry and hurt. Makes for a very hard way to die. Angry at yourself, angry at your caretakers, angry at everything, then you die. Not good. Those left behind are left to deal with the guilt of being angry at you for so long. Again, not good. Just quit. It-s not nearly as hard as you might think. Just make up your mind and do it.
Besides the health factor - it will save you tons of money.
Your health, your kids, a happier life. any reason is a good one.

Has anyone gone for hypnosis to quit smoking? If so did it work? -

I did last Friday and it did not work in the slightest and I did keep an open mind about it.
Yes, I tried that years ago. I should have saved my money for cigarettes. Some things that do work, however, are the nicotine inhaler (need a prescription) in which you insert the little tube, then puff on it like a cigarette. It satisfies that need to -do something- with your hands. Also, -Chantix- is a new prescription drug that blocks nicotine receptors in the brain. After about a week, you don-t enjoy smoking, and the feeling that you need a cigarette fades away. It-s not terribly expensive, but it-s not cheap either... then again, neither are cigarettes. When used in combination, they worked great for me! (btw, they say not to use in combo, but it-s no worse than smoking a cig while you-re on the med.)

Good luck, hope this helps! : )

Hi Cinaedma, Phew some name ,

Perhaps I can help you :

Would you like to know how to stop smoking in a positive and easy way?

How about starting right now by making a list of all of the benefits you will enjoy as a non-smoker? Imagine yourself in the future, say six months time from now.

How good is it going to be when someone offers you a cigarette and you find yourself saying -no thanks-? Perhaps you can imagine how proud you are going to feel and how positive you will be about yourself.

Hypnosis is not the mind control technique that is often represented on TV and in the media. In fact, you cannot make people do anything using hypnosis. Quite the opposite, if someone doesn-t want to stop smoking, they will be even more definite about that in hypnosis! Did you realise people can lie in hypnosis as easily as they can out of hypnosis?
So think what I have said above.
Good luck.
I did it and it was partially successful -- got me to cut down to five but it wouldn-t work beyond that. I-ve heard others say that it worked for them, though. Not everyone is equally addicted or equally hypnotizable, so it doesn-t suprise me that it wouldn-t work for everyone . . .

BTW, those who claim that hypnosis doesn-t really exist or is -black magic- haven-t the foggiest notion what they-re talking about. Neither do those who claim that quitting smoking is -just a matter of will power.- That theory went out with the dinosaurs: we know now that the persistence of addiction depends on genetics a lot more than it does on will.
Yes, I have gone for hypnosis to quit smoking, because my Mom had successfully quit after smoking for 30 years going that route. Hers worked after 3 times, mine didn-t work after 1 visit. It-s in my opinion the reason hers worked is because she really really wanted help to quit smoking, whereas I really didn-t want to quit.
Quitting smoking does not require any patches, gums or hypnosis especially. These methods are expensive, time consuming and simply do not work. All that is required is a bit of motivation, self belief and determination.

I agree that to quit smoking you need to deal with the psychological addiction more than the physical addiction. But do you really need information to be force feed into your brain, I highly doubt it.

If you really want to quit you must discover the reasons why you smoke and then eliminate or change these thought processes. You can do this yourself, it is totally unnecessary to pay someone a ridiculous amount of money to do this for you.

Good Luck and Good Quitting

My hubby went to a hypnotist who made my hubby turn his back to him whilst doing so this hypnotist laid his hands on hubby shoulders and told him he would not smoke anymore....that was 12 years ago and he never has smoked again after 30 years of doing so.

This man never looked my hubby in the face or into his eyes he never gave him the usual clap trap of putting him under he just faced him away from him and spoke just a few words.

Amazing....it was truly mind over matter. And if you knew the sort of person my hubby is with an additictive personality you would have never have believed it possibly for him to kick the habit. He was a social smoker who always smoked when he had a pint with the lads.
Hi,

I did quit smoking for good after my company brought in a guy named Carleton Kendricks, a Boston area Clinical Psychologist and Registered Hypnotist who hypnotized a whole meeting-room full of people at our workplace as they were going totally smoke free and offered this program around 1987. He worked at that time with terminally ill children and adults at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute there in Boston to help them to cope with their own demise. I was a 3 pack a day man when I quit -Cold-Turkey- after 7 sessions of recalling and writing down all of the negative affirmations about the drawbacks and dangers of smoking as well as the great expense and wasted money spent on that habit and the positive affirmations for quitting and being healthier again and possibly doing better things with that saved money. The last 3 sessions before my self-selected quit date were the actual hypnosis sessions that has made me a non-smoker since age 26 and I am now 50 and still do not desire a cigarette in any way. I started smoking at age 11 and by junior high school I was a 2 pack a day man already. By age 26 I was smoking 3 and hating the filthy habit so much. I never should have been a smoker at all and I believe I may not have except that my older brother and his older friend dared me and I had to prove to them I was just one of the guys. My advice to this younger generation is to say to heck with what everybody else is doing...... dare to be yourself and do your own healthy things!
Why don-t you try a program of self hypnosis?

I took out a self hypnosis program and it definitely helped me to stop smoking. I know many who did too and there-s hardly any expense except to spend time on it in your free time. If you go for one hypnosis session, its unlikely to work immediately.
its doesnt work for everyone (or so i heard) but honestly, good for you! you are a smart person to try to quit. im not a smoker, but i think this will help. only smoke 3 cigs (or however much you naturally do each day), and gradually decrease the number each day.
Maybe your hypnotist didn-t know what he/she was doing? I-d try it again. Or just try cutting down your cigs each day until you cut them down to two or three, or just one, and then just stop. Just weed them out of your life. Try a patch or something too.
my dad used to go.
he went and it lasted about a week.
i say use your own will power because thats all it really is anyway

good luck =] keep our air clean

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;…

Hypnosis can work. But not everybody is willing to try it due to prejudices or lack of understanding.

My dad refused but I got him to stop after I gave him this book.

http://quitsmokingeasily.info

for hypnosis to work, you have to want to do what you are trying to accomplish...it is, after all, just simple suggestion. So, if you do not really want to quit, hypnosis won-t help.
My sister tried it, she is smoking again now. I stopped using the patches but their is no secret to how to stop - you just have to really want to.
keep an open mind about this and try again. Ir worked for me...

http://QuitSmokingProductsReview.com
I took hypnosis to start smoking. I am up to four packs a day. So, it is working.
My stepdad did and he smoked about 40 a day for most of his adult life
.He hasn-t smoked since and that was about 15 years ago. But i guess it will suit some but not others.
I have never been able to -go under- by hypnosis. It-s fake. Just quit smoking, your lungs and breath will thank you.
I haven-t, but a guy I work with has had hypnosis to quit smoking, and it-s been 2 years since he touched a cig.
Hypnosis is for wimps. You have to be strong minded about these things!
My friends mom did it
and it worked for her.
It does work- you may need to go a couple more times
probly not
try nickorette
hypnosis or any black magic are FAKE!
dont bother trying them.. youll just waste ur $

I finally quit smoking 5 weeks ago. I find when I do any kind of physical activity my lungs burn...? -

Does anyone know if this is a normal process in quitting. I-ve tried googling it but can-t find anything on it. My lungs never burned like this when I was smoking. (I do have lung damage from pneumonia which I had about 4 years ago)
Mine hurt like that for about 6-8 months after I quit. Good for you though. Keep it up!!
It is normal. I would reduce the intensity of the workouts, but still keep it up.
Go see a doc. Seriously. Get a check up.
Well I can tell you it won-t be killing you to quit.

I quit almost 3 years ago you are still new at this, your lungs are still blackened. Give it time and you will get better.

How can I detox my body after recently quitting smoking? -

How can I detox my body after recently quitting smoking? -

I just quit smoking a couple of days ago and want to detox my body to feel better. Any suggestion?
Wow....wtg! I know how hard that is as I did the same thing over 5 years ago but hey...this is about you! Stay with it and remember, you don-t have to stop.....just stop starting!

You body is going to go through some serious detoxing all on it-s own so don-t rush it but things you can do on your own are:

-drink lots of lemon water
-take vitamin C
-start a good multivitamin (not that drug store crap)
-exercise
-sweat....be it a hot tub, sauna, anything that makes you sweat

Those things alone are a great start. From there as you progress you can add many other great natural products that will help you to detox but be very careful not to rush it as you can actually create a detox crisis.....meaning, your body is trying to get rid of toxins faster than it-s capable of and it can cause incredible stress on your liver, kidneys and lymphatic system so easy does it!
Full of BS. There is no such thing as a -detox crisis-. Natural products will not -help you to detox-.

You would take healthcare advice from a Shaklee salesperson? One who probably never finished college? Ohhhh -- kayyy....

As a matter of fact I have done a detox from natrapath and it works, believe me!! as well as healthy eating from health food shop, lots of water and excercise, this I have done and I feel so much better, amazing really! for 3 weeks no gluten, wheat, dairy, red meat, coffee, lots of fresh food

there is no such thing as detox, it-s a myth. all you need to do to detox is stay away from the toxic substance, ie nicotine. if you want to treat yourself nice and healthy for having quit smoking that-s positive too, but nothing-s going to get the cigarette stuff out of your body but time.

dandelion tea will help to get rid of the crap in your body.

horse radish will help clear your lungs and sinuses

oats will help with cravings
things like old fashion oatmeal.
making home made granola and snacking on it

if you are anxious the essential oil of lavender will help calm you down.
for 10 days drink 2 quarts of water, fresh vegtables and fruit, raw pecans and almonds, and whole wheat. no meat no dairy.
do 5 minutes of jumping jacks a day, and take cascara from your healthfood store as recommended.
thatyll do it!!!!!.
Nothing you eat, drink or squirt up your a$$ will do anything to -detox- you. It will happen naturally over time if you stop putting the -toxins- in, but the process cannot be hurried.
vegetable, - fruit juices and lots of good clean water is about the best you can do for yourself to flush the chemicals out of your system.
Osha root really helps with that deep, rattling cough. Its a natural expectorant.
exercise.
At some spas they have something called an herbal body wrap or a wet dry wrap. They are excellent ways to detox. In fact, that-s what they do to druggies on the street in order to help them into a program. It-s fantastic they wrap you up and you sweat all the junk out. Good luck and congratulations, it-s not easy to quit an addiction!
This program was great. Thank you so much.

I had smoked for about 34 years. I never really tried to quit smoking before, I tried this program and it was really easy for me. I smoked about 1-1-1/2 packs of cigarette-s a day.

I would recommend this program to anyone. It is worth for every smoker who wants to quit this slow suicide habit, this is your last chance to get rid of it eternally.

Has any one used hypnosis to lose weight and/or to quit smoking? -

Has any one used hypnosis to lose weight and/or to quit smoking? -

I am desperate to lose weight and to quit smoking, hate both of the habits, but short of using a -system- like Jenny Craig or Nutrisystems, or having surgery (can-t afford either option), I don-t know what to do. I have no will power, no matter how much I truly want to lose weight and quit smoking. So somebody please, tell me that it has worked for you and how you went about finding an hypnotherapist.
It did work for me....but I was trying to get rid of my habit...biting my nails
My treatment worked, and it wasn t all that expensive. I definitely suggest hypnotherapy...Google a highly sought after hypnotherapist=better quality and you know hes not scamming you
Tried hyponsis, I think its a scam.
iv neva don it b 4,

good luck!!
its all in your head. im the same as you beleive me ive been trying to loose weight ever since i had my baby which is 7 months and im still the same weight its so hard for me i hate excersice and love to eat so i just depress my self thats why now i dont even think about loosing weight im just eating less and ive seen results.
the key is too eat less and no junk food.
Well, ultimately there is no silver bullet for either, and actually there is a lot of data out there that suggests you are at your greatest risk of GAINING weight when you stop smoking.

They had a -Bullshit!- episode on hypnosis (I know, I know, take it with a grain of salt!) which said that hypnosis could boost your chances of quitting. At the very least, it might have some psychosomatic effect if you BELIEVE it works (which, come to think of it is 9/10 of hypnosis anyways). But the bottom line is that it-s all you now.

My advice is to try to find a routine that gets you off those habits. Avoid being around cigarettes if possible, walk when you can instead driving or taking an elevator...all that kind of stuff. Wow, I am preachy today...

Does Chantix really work to quit smoking? -

I am currently taking Chantix. I am on my 4th day of officially being a non-smoker and my 11th day of taking the pills. I am not having any side effects and don-t even think about smoking. It-s pretty amazing actually. One day I was smoking and the next day I didn-t even think about it. I highly recommed getting the perscription even if you-re not 100% you want to quit. Good luck
It did for me. It was so weird because I didn-t want a cigarette at all.
i have a friend that swears by it. states she has no desire to ever smoke again.
Don-t know if it helps other folks but it was a champ for me, i have not smoked or wanted to in six months. i has smoked all my life and quit 12 years ago, then about two years ago i started puffing on cigars which turned into smoking cigars and needed to quit after i had stents placed in my heart.
taking on the a non smoker life style will help you to quit! mind over matter!
There is a women really old that lit up her 117,000 smoke today. Wonder if some can smoke and others just don-t have the physical makeup for it? My grandfather smoked into his 90-s and never had a problem. There is some around me that don-t smoke and have died from cancer due to second hand smoke? There is something in the chemical makeup that allows one to smoke and have health effects and some to have no effects at all? Copper is Copper the way I look at it and some cannot deal with some formats of copper, if its in color or in sustance.
One said don-t put it in your mouth, well that helps huh?

How do I get my mom to quit smoking? -

She wont stop. She said she was for my birthday but she started again. How do I get her to stop? Whats in a cigarrete? What products can she use to help her?
My mom smoked to and yesterday was her 20-day not smoking anniversary and she stopped like this:
she ate more so she wouldn-t have the desire to smoke
we encouraged her everyday and promised a party for a whole month of not smoking
we didn-t give her a chance to smoke
and she saw me when she smoked and saw that every time I was coughing because I REALLY don-t like that smoke...
She won-t stop until SHE is ready and willing to stop
hypnotherapy works well, better the the Nicorette gum or the patches
get her nicotine patches or the gum and when she is runnin low in cigarrete go with her 2 get the gum or patches instead of the cigarretes but its about being patient because smoking is not that easy 2 give up because the nicotine helps relax u more like (stress) and it is also addicting after a while
Hi,

Great post! Quitting smoking was the hardest thing I-ve ever done in my life, and I thought I wasn-t addicted!

Here-s what I tried before finding success: hypnosis, those fake cigaretts, the nicotine patch, and group therapy....none worked.

I finally tried this HERBAL patch I bought 6 months ago on the net. They claim a 97% success rate. Well, it worked! They had a sweet deal which was a free 10 day trial for only $3.95 including shipping (it-s regularly $53 for 10 days)!!

I don-t know if they still have that deal, but it-s worth a try.

http://www.alllsite.info/stop-smoking-fr…

Good Luck
nicotine gum and the nicotine patch
take all her cigarettes and cut them up then throw them away
find pictures of lungs of a person that has smoked and put them somewhere where she-ll see them
tell her to eat some addicting candy like chocolate whenever she feels like smoking
don-t speak to her until she stops smoking
At least she has you as a deterant. Good luck. Alot of people don-t have anything to fight the smoking disease....
This is a little childish but it works you go to a joke shop and get these little looks like pencil len things and you stick them in your moms cigs they will small nasty taste nasty and shell throw them out
I am a mom who smokes and my daughter is always bugging me about stopping. I understand why she wants me to stop but in your moms defense quitting is the hardest thing to do. I would suggest having a serious talk with your mom about why you want her to quit. Don-t nag her about it. Be patient and supportive , suggest her trying the patch or nicotine gum and most of all when she does try quitting be there for her and try not to upset her too much while she is going through the withdrawal period. Good luck to both of you.
I have a really neat email i could send you that might help. It-s a painting on the ceiling of a designated smoking area. Hard to explain, but if you give me your email address i-ll forward it to you. good luck :P
start 2 smoke

When you quit smoking, can that make your throat sore? If so, how long does it last? -

yes but it shouldnt last forever.
When I quit smoking I felt like crap for months, almost a year. I got pneumonia twice that year, and I was told this is typical. Your body is just getting rid of all the crap in your lungs, and regenerating new tissue. Depends on how long you smoked, on how long you feel bad. Check with your doctor they may be able to help with your throat. But keep with the non-smoking, I know its hard but its worth it.
Possibly, but it will be a hell of a lot sorer in the near future if you continue smoking
yes- you will also go through a series of colds from the lack of nicotine (nicotine is a caugh suppressant believe it or not).

have fun torturing yourself. after this week you-ll no longer be physically addicted and you-ll be a lot healthier in the long run

Have you been hypnotized to quit smoking? -

What did they do to you and did it work?
I went to a quit smoking seminar where we all supposedly were hypnotized, but I don-t think it -took- on me and it definitely didn-t help me stop smoking. Sitting at a conference table in an uncomfortable chair didn-t seem especially conducive to being hypnotized -- at least I didn-t think so.

One benefit, though, was a reinforcement tape we were all given...it didn-t make me quit smoking either, but it was very relaxing and I used to play it on nites when I was having trouble falling asleep.

Chain smoker going to quit smoking cigs? -

hi im 18 years old and ive been smoking cigs just for a year since i was 17. Anyways i really want to be healthy and i dont want lung cancer or anything like that. Lets say i quit smoking starting now, how long does it take for my lungs to be tobacco free and healthy and clean again?
im not sure but here-s some info:

Nicotine is found in both tobacco leaves and smoke and is as addictive as heroin. One interesting fact about nicotine is how fast it moves through your bloodstream. After you inhale from a cigarette or other tobacco product, you retain 90% of the nicotine it contains. This nicotine travels in your bloodstream along with oxygen and will reach your brain in less than 10 seconds, affecting not only your brain and central nervous system, but also your hypothalamus and pituitary gland (meaning that is also affects your hormone system).

However, a few minutes later, the effects of the nicotine disappear. This is why many people who smoke, feel the urge to smoke more often to maintain the same results.

Did you know that since nicotine is absorbed into your bloodstream, traces of it can be found throughout your entire body -- even in your hair and eyes?

On another note, most American cigarettes are made from a lighter blend of tobacco which gives off an acidic smoke when burned, while other tobacco products (those used in pipes, cigars, etc.) use a darker tobacco which gives off an alkaline smoke. Why is this important? Well, the acid/alkaline balance (pH content) of the smoke will determine the amount of nicotine absorbed through your mouth when you smoke. Generally, the darker and more alkaline the tobacco, the more nicotine that gets absorbed through your mouth.

Nicotine is also unusual in that it can either be used as a stimulant to your body or as a depressant. When you take short, rapid puffs from a cigarette, the smaller amounts of nicotine stimulate your central nervous system causing you to feel charged up. However, when you take slow drags of a cigarette, the larger dose of nicotine slow your nerve impulses causing you to feel relaxed.

Therefore, a person who smokes can alter their mood very easily depending on the style of smoking they use. You can see how smoking can have so much power over you -- giving you the ability to control your moods. This is one reason smoking is so addictive.
7 years
You-ve only been smoking a year. YOu should be ok.

For longtime smokers, they say in three to nine months, the lung capacity improves by 10% so possibly much much better for you.
It-ll be years and years, like until you turn 60 for your lungs to look like the people your age who haven-t smoked just because by that time other people will have messed up their lungs with other things. On the other hand with in 20 minutes of your last cigarette your blood pressure return to normal, and with in 10 years your risk of lung cancer and other smoking related diseases drops to that of a non smoker.
hey, if you wanna quit, find a hypnotist... you may laugh at this, but someone i know who smoked for over 40 years quit cold turkey after seeing a hypnotist, after trying every other method
i dont ever think that the fix themselfs you already have dont the dammage but one year of smoking cant do a lot unless you smoke like 4 packs a day but just dont do more and you will b ok i think
after the last ciggarette you smoke your blood pressure drops closer to normal with in 15 minutes you receive immed benifits - and i cant remember what the exact length of time is but it probally wont be that long for you - most web sites go off of people that have smoked for 5 years - so your chances are probally less than normal - good luck

http://www.quitsmokinghub.com/smoking_ce…

I work at a gym and know all about this. Basically things start getting better as soon as you stop smoking. About 20 minutes afterwards your heart rate and blood pressure go down. Since you-ve only been smoking for about a year I-d say you would completely good. Plus, your young and your lungs will heal way faster than someone who is 40 and just quit. By the way im the same age and same situation as you.

What is the best way to quit smoking besides going cold turkey? -

set a date and cut back one cigarette each day until you are down to none.
The best way is going cold turkey. It only takes 72hrs. for nicotine to get out of your system. After that your withdrawl symptoms are mental. Go to the website www.whyquit.com and check it out. It is a great site with tons of support. It really helped me . If you use nicotine patches, gum or any of that other bs it just prolongs the agony. JUST DO IT!! Good luck
a support system! tell everyone around you that you really want to quit. It helps because you don-t want to be seen as a quitter by your loved ones.
I just quit 4 months, two weeks ago. I started with the goal setting and medication. It worked but I soon dropped the meds cause they made me feel spacey. I was on wellbutrin, the anti-depression med mostly used on woman. It also helps to not drink if you do and hang around friends that don-t smoke. Tell everyone you know if your serious about quitting. It feels good to have everyone cheer you on! I smoked for 14+ years before quitting.
Hi, just some thoughts OK,,
You need to want to quit smoking and not because of the money or anything like that... Spending more money on something you don-t want to give up is just is just a wast of time. I love to smoke but my body wont take it any more..
No, I-m not on oxygen or have a tube up my noise..
I had to give it up for the biggest reason ( You need air to live) and I-m not trying to be hard just real..good luck.

http://becomeanonsmoker.com/quit-smoking…

Free quit smoking course as its different for everyone.
There is none. Find the will power and go cold turkey.
1. Set a date and smoke your last one
2. Trow out ashtrays, lighters, etc.
3. When you feel the urge to smoke: take a walk, eat some fruit, exercise
4. Avoid smokey places for a while and people who do

It only takes 48 hours for the nicotine to leave your body. The rest is just the battle of the oral habit. I smoked for almost 20 yrs. I have been smoke free for 3.5 yrs. I still have carvings but they pass. I use toothpicks and straws to overcome the oral habit. I-ve know people who have used drugs, the patch, etc. but it hasn-t helped. The drugs can have side effects and the drugs won-t get rid of the oral habit.
Good luck.
Wear one of the patches they sell on pharmacies.

My sister did years ago and even when she has felt tempted to smoke from time to time, she has never smoked again.

I bought it for her, and gave her a certificate when she finished the treatment. Maybe that made a difference.

So, if you love someone and care about his or her health, buy one for that person and go to the Print Shop or any other program and make a good certificate. Give it to the person and that is a good motivation for not going back to smoke.

Whatch Oprah when Dr. Oz is there. He will show how the lungs of a smoker look. Scary.

How to quit smoking..... 5th try.? -

I have been trying to quit smoking for about a year now. I have tried the patch, the gum, substituting a cigarette with a sucker or some sort of candy, everything! I live in a house with smokers, I am friends with smokers and all that fun stuff. I understand that one of the ways to help the cravings is to stay away from triggers but that is not a possibility.

Does anyone have any tricks or hints on how they quit smoking? Any and all information would be most appreciated.
Like you I tried several times to quit using patches, gums, herbs etc but none of these worked.

Smoking is more of a psychological addiction than a physical one. If you really want to quit you must discover the reasons why you smoke and then eliminate or change these thought processes. As soon as I dealt with my psychological reasons for smoking I quit, first time and more importantly for good.

Quitting smoking does not require any patches, gums, herbs or drugs. These methods are expensive, time consuming, potentially harmful and simply do not work. All that is required is a bit of motivation, self belief and determination.

Visit our blog for more information and to download our free book.
Not a single method is going to work for everyone.
Instead of trying to quit, just quit!

I gave up cold turkey 13 years ago and found it easier than smoking lesser as the day goes by, -light- cigarettes (only make me smoke more) because of the lack of kick.

Nicotine is highly addictive and it-s not easy to quit once you have become dependant on it to get yourself going everyday.
Perhaps some of these may help.
Smoking can lead to blindness, it causes Emphysema.
If you are not sure what is Emphysema, it-s a irreversible lung condition that is supposedly suffered by old smokers but recent news about Amy Winehouse has stunned many that someone as young as her can suffer from that too.

You would need support too, perhaps you can get your house of smokers to quit with you.
I see that there were mention of using the drug, Chantix. Be aware that there have been suicide warning about using this. It may not affect everyone but...
I was in the same situation. What I did was cut down on my own, so I would only take one or two when I went out. Then when i started to smoke, It was taste gross and would give me a bad stomach so I just stopped. Gave away my smokes, and quit cold turkey.
My best advise would be to not become dependent on things like gum and patches, because people tend to think without that, they wouldn-t be able to quit, you have to just not make smoking available, and keep yourself occupied so you wont think about it as much

also, if you can last a few days it becomes much easier because almost instantly smoking smells worse, and if smoke gets around you its almost as if you can taste it, but it tastes horrible.

Good luck !

well it is probably impossible to quit right away !
Yo0 need a plan of action by doing this you need to gradually start cutting down on how many you smoke a day and if you feel you really need one then simply take a pen or pencil and just sit and put in yo0r mouth and pretend your inhaling and eventually your body will stop depending on the ciggarettes and you work all the way down to like 1 cig a day x

Good Luck
1- Hypnosis.
2- Look up the pictures of what it causes, does that help?
3- Get some support from your family
4- Keep yourself busy at all times, its like me. I always want to bite my nails when im bored.
5- Check these steps out, they are proven to help you quit

Maybe once your done you can encourage your friends.
New drug out there called Chantix, which is supposed to be a different med from the rest and very effective even for hard core smokers. I-ve known several people who have tried it and done very well with it.
Good luck

This is the drug manufacturer-s website.

Chantix is significantly more effective than earlier anti-smoking meds. Use it for six months if you have to.

Try these, it might help you quit altogether. It is a proven fact that people who stop smoking start back-up . These are the safe cigarette.

My mother has tried about everything to quit smoking. She has even tried hypnosis. The nicotine gum did not even work for her.

There is a more expensive way to quit smoking, but I have seen the biggest improvement with a prescription called Chantix. It is a gradual way to stop smoking. In my opinion it is the healthiest way to go about it. It messes with the receptors that have to do with the urge to smoke.

I noticed a great change within the first few days; she really did not have much of a need to smoke. The only time she has a hard time with not smoking is when she is bored.

I highly recommend this, but the downfall is that you may have really intense dreams, some mood swings, or nausea.

Good luck! :)
I agree with Helen J. Gum are good way to quit smoking. My friend had the same problem and he took the help of nicotine gum, whenever he felt like smoking he used one. The best point is that he received a free sample of 100 gum to try for free, they helped him and he then continued with them till he quit. I am sure it can help you too, you can also ask for free sample, he got it from the resource included below.. All the Best!!!
You can try
Try chewing those nicotine gums.
Or gradually decrease the amount of cigarettes you smoke everyday.

I hope this helps.
And please stop smoking. :(

I quit smoking cold turkey, I need help with cravings!? -

I quit smoking for good. Cold turkey, no gum or patches. I am wondering what natural remedies would help with cravings.
Drink lots of water and brush your teeth when a craving hit you.Good luck
Whenever you feel like smoking just fight the urge and watch the time fly!

Congratulations Kara, a thousand times over!
Some calming tea might help, such as chamomile. You could also eat a lollipop, or candy cane. Probably a good detox program would help.

I finally do, I keep waking up until its lite out, then I go out cold..any comments?
Congratulations! Difficulty sleeping is a common withdrawal problem, so the best I can suggest is that you tough it out, it should improve. Vivid dreams are also a common complaint when using Chantix, I had them myself when I used it (and found them more interesting than troubling).
Thats a weird situation you got there... Im not a professional. So I would go and book an appointment at the doctors, and tell him. He shoudl be able to help.
Sorry I couldn-t help :\

i need help!!!!!!!
you need to mentally prepare yourself for it. Think about the fact that youre going to do it and the things you will do to keep yourself busy, Then go out and buy the patches, (the steps depend on how much you smoke now)let them sit somewhere that you can see them all the time, then set a date, get rid of all smoking materials and stick to the date. The patches help with the cravings but its the habit that will get to you the most, esp since smokers tend to smoke after eating, while driving, on the phone, on break at work, its very hard and I still get the craving for one but I think about my family and one day not having to walk around with an oxygen tank or not being able to breathe. I have been smoke free since december 19 and im very proud of myself, I reward myself with many little things that I enjoy. Yes there were times where i would start crying like a baby b/c I wanted a cigarrete so bad but now I know that I wont have to go through that again and I know Im making the best choice for me. If I dont take care of myself nobody is going to take care of me.
Wait until it gives you cancer! That will make you quit! That is what stoped my dad!
I quit cold turkey. Everytime I got the urge I spoke out loud to myself, -My body is the temple of Lord. He said not to destroy it.I have power to deny the flesh. It does not rule me, I rule it. This urge to smoke will only last for a few minutes but sickness in my body from smoking will last longer and possibly even unto death-.

That-s how I quit. I only had to say that a few times. After that not only was I convinced but my body was convinced. I didn-t want to die from a little cigarette.

You must speak it out loud so that you can hear it and get it into your spirit. You shall have what you say and you do what you believe.

I believed I could have the victory and I did.
Self determination and self control
Somethings are more sucessful for some people than others. My father smoked for 35 years. He went to a hypnotist, and hasn-t smoked a day since. That was over 10 years ago. He went to a seminar where the guy hypnotized the whole audience. If that doesn-t sound like something you want to try I suggest asking a doctor about it. If you try several methods and they don-t work there are even medications that can help. I know Wellbutrin is often prescribed to help quit smoking. I believe it helps eliminate cravings. I believe there are also prescription drugs that make the cigerettes taste awful, but I might be wrong on that.
if you are really serious about qutting, you can do so...
I basically support the answer Rangel gave. I would also like to add that if you can-t quit it despite knowing what harm it causs to you,try and think abot its lethal effect on your loved ones. Though innocent, they get affected viciously(even if that-s not ostensible)siply because you are unable to muster the necessary strength. So charge up! I-m sure that you can! Best of luck!
just quit. i know a man who smokes 3 packs a day, when he decided to quit, he just did. there are no sure methods. just believe in yourself and pray. i know you can...
Don-t smoke instead of that kiss a girl
Two method to get the rid from smoking.1st is for those people who -ve strong will power- 2nd for those who are taking their life casually.loll
1.Go to the temple or church or masgid, see in the eyes of lord constantly ,then sunddenly after some time take a oath or swear-i will not touch it,if i do, then at that instant only you take my life-. i know what will happen to you after some day ,again you eager to smoke but do one thing take a bike or car start driving it for long root, you feel that you will go on mad,you feel like a crazy but above all these silly things remember that temple, thatspirit ,remember the eyes of god .if then also you are unable, then start eat mud or water or grass in the jungle.if you can pass this stage then you are sure what you are?.but do exactly what i had written.
2.Never think you want to quit smoking, never hate ,but never invite also to anyone for smoking.smoke twice or thrice in a day but alone. And when you came at this stage, then start sit with those person to whom you like -respect most ,in front of which you are unable or you never feel to smoke - enjoy the environment by jokes etc.If then also unable to quit then smoke twice in a day, but remember always far away from that stretch to quit the smoking.

I started to run track at school but i have recentally quit smoking...? -

how long will it take for my lungs to get back to they way they were before i stared smoking? i have smoked for about 2 years at 1 pack a day. i quit like 2 days ago.
You have made a very wise decision. Remember quitting smoking is not a problem but sticking on your resolve requires some effort. Be careful, don-t start smoking again:

For further info on quitting smoking visit the following link:

http://www.ridbadhabits.com/smoking.html

Following info would answer your question:

20 Minutes After Quitting: Your heart rate drops.

12 hours After Quitting: Carbon monoxide level in your blood drops to normal.

2 Weeks to 3 Months After Quitting: Your heart attack risk begins to drop.Your lung function begins to improve.

1 to 9 Months After Quitting: Your Coughing and shortness of breath decrease.

1 Year After Quitting: Your added risk of coronary heart disease is half that of a smoker’s.

5 Years After Quitting: Your stroke risk is reduced to that of a nonsmoker’s 5-15 years after quitting.

10 Years After Quitting: Your lung cancer death rate is about half that of a smoker’s. Your risk of cancers of the mouth, throat, esophagus, bladder, kidney, and pancreas decreases.

15 Years After Quitting: Your risk of coronary heart disease is back to that of a nonsmoker’s
5 to 10 years for recovery
sorry to tell you, but just one cigarette can cause damage. You may never get your lungs completely back.
first off, you will start smoking again you stupid addict. dont you know what it does to you and it is nasty. who likes a girl who smokes?no guy likes that cause its nasty and your lungs will never be the same as they used to because smoking does permanent damage to your lungs just like it permanently kills brain cells.
Probably many weeks or months of hard work before you can be able to breathe well enough for such physical activities. It takes that long for an out of shape person who has never smoked before. I-m not trying to discourage you from quiting and taking up track. Good job and good luck.

Sorry that I cannot specifically answer this.

How did you quit smoking cigarettes? -

Please share to help other smokers quit. Me, myself, I used the Allen Carr-s Easy way to Quit book. If you need help please email me at getmymoney5215@yahoo.com.
I just decided to quit. My husband hated it and I would hide from people just to smoke. Made me realize that if I am hiding it there is something wrong.....

ps. my mother died 4 months ago at 59 from respiratory failure. Related to smoking
For one i never started so that helps. My uncle used to smoke he quit. He just thought about all the consequences he would get if he smoked. Lung cancer and stuff it isn-t worth it. He also sucked on toothpicks for a while and then started to ease of them also.

How do I get my mom to quit smoking (even though she hides it from me)? -

How do I get my mom to quit smoking (even though she hides it from me)? -

Well, my mom is a smoker. I have seen her smoking, I can tell when her hair, clothes, and car reeks of smoke. She hides her smoking from my sister and I, so I don-t know how to tell her that I know and that she has to quit. All of my grandparents have died due to smoking related disease, and everytime my mom coughs it makes me sick. I just don-t know what I can do. Does anyone have any advice please?
Your mom is doing the right thing by not smoking in front of you. I remember as a kid everyone smoked ever where in the house , there never was a smoke free environment. I grow up in it. Your mom must feel some gilt if she is trying to hide it. She probably wants to quit , but it is not a easy thing to do. I am smoker my self and I am a mom. although I do not smoke in the house not even if the kids are gone. Like my mom did.
I don-t like the smell , so my children should not have to smell it where they sleep, I did quit for 2 years. The whole time I still craved cigarettes, but something very stress full happened in my life so it was easy to give in. I tried again to stop smoking it only last this time for 2 mounts. I gain 9 pound in that amount of time. I eat to replace the cigarettes .. Now that I am smoking again I do try to hide it from my children. I am not proud of myself for smoking again. I feel I have disappointed my children. My youngest will say are you smoking ? He knows , he smells it on me and he tells me I need to quit .It is heart breaking . So I guess all I can tell you is your mom loves you . she hides it, because she doesn-t want you to see her bad habit and the harm she is doing to her self and we as parents do not want are children to follow our bad habits. As far as telling your mom that she has to quit smoking, because you are concerned about her health. I would just say mom I know you are smoking and I am concerned because of our family history and it is just not healthy to smoke. I would really like it if you could try to quit, because I love you and I want you to be around for a very long time. and tell her beside you don-t like the smell. May you can came off a little easy, but give her some gilt , but not to hard. Remember it is very hard to quit , so a little gilt well help her try, but to much can be stress full. Best wishes and please do not ever start your self.
The fact that she hides it from you shows that she is ashamed of the fact that she smokes. It is really hard to get yourself to quit, so it is almost impossible to get someone else to quit. My advice to you would be to act like you don-t know. Once you reveal that you know to your mom, she will probably smoke around you, thus she would be smoking more often. It-s actually good that she is ashamed and that she knows it-s wrong because that means there is more of a chance of her quitting in the future. She doesn-t want to set a bad example to you as her children. Just remember that your mom is trying hard. Good luck!
I just had to go through cancer treatment with my father and it was the hardest thing I-ve ever had to do. Honestly if people close to her have passed and she-s still smoking there may be nothing that can stop her. My dad only quit because the doctor-s told him he had to. Maybe if you told her that you are worried that she won-t be there for you anymore and how hard it would be for you to see her suffer like your other relatives suffered. My dad has started to convince people around him that they should quit by describing the pain in his throat and showing them how for the last 3 months he has had to eat through a tube. Maybe go on the cancer society website and pull some facts about cancer. I know my dad would give anything to go back in time and give up smoking years ago if he knew the pain and frustration that waited for him down the road.
make it your goal. which means you have to take risks to get to it. you obviously are concerned about it so make a statement. if you see a pack of cigarettes take them and throw them out , do what you have to. get your point across and if you really talk to her also im sure she will take it to heart. be PERSISTENT! good luck

and , obviously it is extremely hard for smokers to quit. but nothings gonna happen if you just sit around and let it be. the desire does have to come from the smoker, but that doesnt mean you can-t do anything you can to help and support her , even if that means throwing out a pack of cigarettes, would you rather her smoke them?
Your mother is an adult and makes her own decisions. Although you can express your concerns about her health if shes going to quit shes needs to want to do it for herself. No matter how much someone may nag you when your ready to do it you will. Cut her a little slack shes your mom and lifes not always as aeasy as it seems.
Well can I just ask you to change your eye colour? What? you can-t? It is nice you are concerned for your mom, and you are right to be, but I am sure she doesn-t do it because she-s bored or something. it is extremly hard to quit. Tell her you know and that she has your full support but let her do it on her own time and her own will. it is the only way she will stop for good.
You can-t. The Desire to quit has to come from HER. Still, you CAN occasionally remind her that it really bothers YOU; both the smell - what it-s doing to her health... - HOPEFULLY, somewhere along the way, maybe she-ll finally give it up... :)
It-s gonna be hard, don-t nagg her!
i-m a smoker and it is the hardest thing to quit doing..
pray for her!
