I really want to quit smoking.. natrual? -
I want to quit smoking because I play sports, drum and want to be healthy. I think about my mother all the time and how I wouldn-t want to see her dying of cancer or anyone at that. Whats the most effective way to calm the cravings and to quit cold turkey?
Well. . . Quitting is quite easy if your brain chemistry is balanced. But many people seek out tobacco because it actually helps them. It-s called self-medication, and it is usually a totally unconscious thing. Pregnant women whose bodies don-t have enough of some necessary element, will have intense cravings for different foods which contain the thing their bodies need to build a baby, and then a day later, the craving reverses. I-ve seen this happen with a friend of mine. One time she sent her hubby out looking for Gummy Bears at 3 AM, probably because she needed the gelatin for bone structure or something like that. It-s been reported that some women crave chalk or road salt.
If your brain naturally does better with nicotine, then the chances of you being able to quit are very slim. I-d focus on trying to find organic tobaccos and maybe a pipe. Most of the problems with tobacco come from the type of fertilizer it was grown in, (phosphate fertilizers are mildly radioactive, which for your stomach isn-t a big problem, but for lungs. . .), pesticides and of course the crazy list of additives corporate tobacco adds. --The other problems stem from the filters, which allow toxin-filled tar-covered micro-filaments into the lungs which never come out again, (like asbestos). All of these problems can be dealt with by smoking clean tobacco in a pipe.
Otherwise, quitting isn-t that hard. It takes only seven days to quit. The cravings and brain chemistry nuttiness will get worse and worse, peeking around day three or four, and then drop off until they are completely gone around day eight or nine. End of story; the chemical addiction is gone. It-s basically like having a moderate flu. I was really surprised at how over-stated the whole nicotine addiction thing has been. It-s really not that big a deal. --The trouble is that during the week of breaking nicotine addiction, you can make the symptoms disappear instantly by smoking, and your brain will play all kinds of tricks on you to convince you to do this. But will power is all you need, and not even for that long. Anybody can last for three bad days and four progressively easier days. The first day isn-t that hard at all. It was actually quite a lot of fun; like trying to win a video game.
After that, the only cravings you-ll get are behavioral if your brain chemistry is balanced. If, however, you simply do better with tobacco, then you will have cravings for the rest of your life, so you might as well smoke. Just smoke clean. You won-t get sick unless you believe you will. Seriously. Tobacco smoke isn-t really bad for you, but the psyche programming the world has undergone is very difficult to overcome. Tobacco is one of the only two drugs on the planet which has a beneficial effect, (in its case, it sharpens awareness and calms negative emotions) and does so without affecting judgment. The other drug which has positive effects without screwing with your head is caffeine.
It-s an interesting note that Hitler-s Nazi party was the first modern government to attempt to ban smoking. My guess is that this was done because tobacco balances your thinking. It-s harder to make people do crazy, angry things when their thinking is calmed and focused with tobacco. This is another good reason to stay away from corporate tobacco; all those additives work to counter-balance the positive effects of nicotine.
Finally. . , one trick you can use to help get through the quitting tobacco -flu- is to rent a bunch of TV series on DVD and watch them through the really difficult period of withdrawal. --I found when I was experimenting with smoking, (I smoked a year or so, and then quit, and then after a month took it up again and then quit again after a few more months. Then I quit permanently; my brain doesn-t need nicotine, so it wasn-t hard for me), was that when I was watching a movie, I was totally distracted from the craving pangs. It worked really well.
There-s also a timing thing, but it depends on your personal chemistry. On my second time through, I found that if you stop smoking for three days, then on the hardest day, if you smoke once more, the build-up of nicotine metabolizing chemicals your brain creates are cut down without the pattern being re-established. This just makes the rest of the week go by more easily and the whole quitting thing more comfortable.
Anyway, good luck with whatever you decide to do..
Cheers!
The chemical addiction is gone after 3 days. That-s the easy part. It-s the physiological addiction turmoil you have to go through after wards. I-m off cigs for a while now. But i-ve quit a few times so i-m aware of what Works and what doesn-t. there are no pills that work for the oral fixation as mentioned by some other posts. The best trick is to distract yourself once you get a craving. You will be fine after 2-3Min-s after a craving. That-s up to you. do something you like or text a friend, remove yourself from the area of temptation.
Some things you should be aware of:
When you stop you will be short tempered. Be careful of how you treat your friends. Walk away from arguments. They will make you want to smoke more.
If you drink you-ll find it hard to not smoke because you-re more likely to smoke when drinking. Also you may drink more. Kinda takes more to get you drunk. If you don-t drink this can be compared to anything you do that involved you smoking as part of it i.e. watching sports live (the tension...Grrh!)
Ask friends for help. Tell them what your doing and do a reward scheme for yourself. After 3 days not smoking you-ve earned a trip to the cinema. don-t go if you fail to. You-ll have the money to do things now due to the money you are saving. This is also a strong motivator. You-ll notice the financial advantages almost straight away with this trick.
There are many other tricks that people have so listen to them. Don-t just take one persons advice. Do what suits you disregard what you know won-t. As much as I-m a fan of trying anything - you never know- is not always good when trying to quit. The more things that fail to help you can make the task of quiting harder, like -nothing I do is working-.
And good luck. You-ll need it.

Good luck and good health to you and your mother.
chew gum and just deal with the withdrawal
I smoked for 10 years and quit cold turkey.
you tend to have an oral fixation afterward so again I suggest gum. and if you have the urge to eat to cope I suggest a baggie of carrots.
and good Luck, man, quitting smoking is one of the best things you could do for yourself.
its great to know tht u wana quit smoking which is harmful to health. EAch time you have the urge to smoke, pop a sweet or chewing gum. It helps. In the end, its your will power and determination tht helps you.
I-ve heard that a long flight (32+) to a different country can help, because you have been 32+ hours away from a cigarette. And this can really boost your confidence of quiting
Most of all
U need to be fully commited and motivated
Cold turkey your DONE.I even kept a pack on me to fight the devil even harder.Been 25 years
Throw them away and make a contract with yourself that you will never smoke again!
