Ever since I quit smoking I bleed when I blow my nose? -

I blow my nose more and more and its bloody too. Why?
How long ago did you quit smoking? If only recently, it-s almost a way for your body to clean itself out. For however long you were smoking, you had nicotine and whatever other junk is in cigarettes lining your nasal passages. They became like a barrier to other impurities.
If you only stopped recently, your nose has to get used to -harsher- (or actually normal) conditions. You don-t have that barrier any more, so your nose becomes irritated quicker.
If it has been over a week or two, and it is still bloody, i would check with your doctor. It could be something else, and just is a coincidence that it happened just when you stopped smoking.

Good luck
GO TO A DOCTOR.

Bleeding out of any orifice cannot be healthy.

Please, go see a doctor.
I don-t know where you are, but it is winter in the northern hemisphere and the humidity is very low.
When I lived in the southwest desert, I had nosebleeds all the time during winter, until I got a humidifier.
Your nasal passages are too dry. This causes small blood vessels to break.

Use saline nasal spray 2 or more times/day. Moisturize the inside of your nostrils. It will also protect you from cold - viruses.
You can also use a humidifier in your house.

Quit Smoking - Do you necessarily put on weight? -

Quit Smoking - Do you necessarily put on weight? -

Hi all. I-m quiting smoking now, and man is it hard! But I can manage it if I am sure of one thing - weight gain!

I-ve always heard that, when you quit smoking, you put on a LOT of weight. Is this necessarily true?

Another question is if the weight gain comes from compulsive eating or if there is anything quimical that the nicotine does to your body that makes you not gain weight. If it is compulsive eating, then we can probably stop it. If it-s quimical, then it can be a problem. Which is it?

Just so you have a context, I-m a 24 y.o. male, 5-9, 147 lbs, I workout 6-7 days a week, about 2-3 hours a day, doing cardio and weight training. I avoid fatty food, although I can eat about 20-60 grams a day of chocolate... So, what consequence could I get from the smoke stop in my weight?

Thanks.
There isn-t any proven chemical effect that prevents weight gain found in cigarettes (don-t you think the companies would market that?). The reason why people gain weight comes from two factors: 1) when someone quits smoking, their taste buds are no longer dulled and so food begins tasting much yummier, which leads to reason 2) so they begin to eat compulsively as a way to not smoke.

My suggestion--keep your hands busy. If you would normally have a cig after work, go for a walk or call a friend instead. Break the habit by begining newer, healthier ones (eating not included)! Congratulations on quitting, though! And good luck!
for me it was, something about nicoteen and curbing hunger.
do it man ! you cant have just one, or you will go back.
i successfully used the ziban program.
I replaced my cig habit with a excersise regimine.
good luck.
yea you are right when my parents tried to quit smoking they both put on weight needless to say to much stress and still smoking but then they tried a diet. but i too think its from the excessive eating trying to fill that 5-10 minute smoke break you would normally take 3-5 times a day try to find something to draw your attention for a smillar period of time bu twith your current eating habits and workout routine you should be fine.
I think that many people put on weight only because they are supplementing food for the cigs. I suggest chewing gum, or a hard candy, anything to keep endless calories away from you mouth..
well i quit smoking and i wieghed 200 pounds, now im up to 300. I dont know what to tell you.
hi if eney one want to quit smoking just call {5311123} it-s cind of a club that mack you quit smoking some haw

god luck.
Yeah, i-ve heard that too.. I quit smoking a few years ago, and like they said up there, you kinda replace the cigs with food, so you kinda replace one problem with another.. I started to get fat and then i started smoking again lol.. Poblem solved.. lol..

lmao @ d b-s answer.. I-ma give you a lil star for that.. Too funny..
ppl that try to quit smokin , need to have something that relates there hand with there mouth, yes most ppl do put on some wait.

keep in mind that the ONLY way to stop smoking is to DIE.
why fool yourself into thinking you can stop forever, enjoy life, have that cig. , your going to die at some point .
I-m 78 and still smoke 2 packs a day, all the talk about cancer , well that-s BS...
only if you start eating

How to help my b/f to quit smoking for good? -

I-m currently dating a guy who has quit smoking before (not sure how he quit the first time) but, lately he-s been away in another state training in another state for a new job. Some people he works with and hangs out with there smokes. He called me one day to say that since he-s been around other smokers, he-s given in again to smoking....I-ve never smoked, so I don-t know how difficult it is to stop. When I try to approach him about how much it bothers me, he gets a little irritated, and says that I -don-t understand how hard it is to quit- and that he-s trying to quit....how can I help him or make suggestions to him to quit smoking for good? being around smoke makes me cough a lot anyway....I don-t want to date a man who smokes, but he-s such a sweetie and I think I-ve fallen for him. Should I just give him time to prove that he-s trying to quit, and cut him slack? HELP!
The only way a smoker can quit smoking, is if he is good and ready to quit. Pestering him about will only make it worse. If he is actively trying to quit, continue to tell him how proud you are of him, but other than that there is really nothing you can do to help.
If you don-t want to date a smoker than you should seriously consider breaking up with him, though. What if he never quits? Only stay with him if you are sure that you wouldn-t mind living the rest of your life with a smoker. If you wouldn-t mind your children being raised with cigarettes in the environment. I-m not saying that staying with a smoker if an awful thing, but it all has to be taken into consideration.
It is always tempting when you around smokers and you are the odd one out. I know from my own experience, I had been smoking for 20 years until I stopped (Wife kept nagging :p)

You can visit my blog for more information on how to quit smoking. Maybe you will pick up some ideas and learn more about addictions.

Hope I helped,

Chris
There-s some very good strategies for coping with other smokers when someone is trying to quit. Go to, or ask your b/f to have a look at
http://www.quitguide.com

Also at that website is a great page called: How to help someone quit smoking. You-ll get a ton of ideas there. Good luck, sounds like he-s worth it.
I kinda have the same problem. I have been dating a girl for about a month.. met online and first thing i said was -if you smoke, don-t bother to contact me- problem is she only smokes a cigarette when she drinks. Just one but every time she drinks.
I confronted her and told her exactly how I felt. How much it grossed me out and how disappointed I am in people that smoke. She got defensive and i reminded her that she can do whatever she wants but I will always have an opinion and will state my opinion openly with her. I think by being truthful and blunt and explain how much it upsets you (gott say it everytime they smoke) be obnoxious, annoy them, and give incentives, like when you quit smoking I will make you a nice dinner. Hope this helps

How do I quit smoking when every time I see my husband I want a cigarette? -

My husband wants me to quit (so do I) but he is one of my triggers. I am fine when he is not home but as soon as he get home I want a cigarette. How do I handle this situation?
it-s not -psychological- - ya don-t need to -talk- to him about it;; it-s a HABIT, just like smoking;; break the habit, you-ll quit the crave;; go grab a yogurt from the fridge when he gets home, go vaccuum the floor, give him a kiss instead, let it lead to the bedroom, oh, well, then you-ll really want a cigarette after that, so can that;; but find something to do with your hands - your mind when he gets home...
U need to work as a team and encourage one another to stop

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.
This sounds like it could be a deeply psychological issue. You might even want to talk to a therapist about this. They will help you understand why he is a trigger for you and how you can overcome this association or replace it with something healthier.
Ask yourself why do you tend to want a cigarette when you see your husband. You might have a problem with him and need to talk about it. Also we need more information because this might have to do with your marriage.
Use Nicorette gum instead of cigarettes when he gets home.

Get the Facts
Easyway, founded by Allen Carr in 1983, has the highest independently verified 12-month success rate (75.8% for a smoker completing the program) of any quit smoking technique and a 90% satisfaction rating.

Compare Easyway to other methods and see for yourself why Easyway is called “The Cadillac of quit smoking methods.”

The Allen Carr Method
HOW THE METHOD WORKS

Using psychotherapy, the method works in the opposite way to the “willpower” method. It does not concentrate on the reasons the smoker should not smoke : the money, the slavery, the health risks and the stigma. Smokers know all that already. Instead it focuses on why smokers continue to smoke in spite of the obvious disadvantages.

It is fear that keeps smokers hooked!

Fear the smoker will have to give up their pleasure or crutch. Fear the smoker will be unable to enjoy life or handle stress. Fear the smoker will have to go through an awful trauma to get free. Fear the smoker will never get completely free from the craving.

The Method removes these fears
Smokers quit with the Allen Carr Method as happy non-smokers, not feeling deprived but with a huge sense of relief and elation that they have finally achieved what they always wanted….

TO BE FREE!

What about the terrible withdrawal pangs from nicotine?

The physical withdrawal from nicotine is so slight that most smokers don’t realise that they are addicts. What smokers suffer when they try and quit using other methods is the misery and depression caused by the belief that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch.

The Allen Carr Method removes this feeling of deprivation.
It removes the need and desire to smoke. Once the smoker is in the right frame of mind and they follow the simple instructions, the physical withdrawal from nicotine is hardly noticeable.

No Gimmicks!

The Method does not use any gimmicks, useless aids or substitutes. No nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, tabs, inhilators or nasal sprays! No needles! No lasers! No drugs! No herbs! No shock treatment!

The Allen Carr Method is successful because:

It removes the smokers’ conflict of will.
There are no bad withdrawal pangs.
It is instantaneous and easy.
It is equally effective for long-term heavy smokers and light smokers.
You need not gain weight.
You will not miss smoking.

Medical Endorsements

A personal view from Professor Judith Mackay MBE, JP, FRCO (Edin), FRCP (Lon), World Health Organisation Advisory Panel on Tobacco and Health

“I have no hesitation in supporting Allen Carr’s work. Many clinics use some of his techniques but it would appear that few do it in quite such a successful package.”

Carole Johnson, Coronary Heart Disease Prevention Unit, Tyne Tees

“his success rate was such that, when budgets allow, we continue to use Easyway for work with specific groups and individuals.”

Dr Anil Visa BSc, MBBch., FRCA, Consultant – Royal Hospitals NHS Trust – Royal London Hospital

“I have observed the Allen Carr method at first hand and have found it to be very successful and I wholeheartedly support it as an effective way to quit smoking.”

Dr William Green, Head of Psychiatric Dept, Matilda Hospital, Hong Kong

“It is a remarkable fact that Allen Carr, on his own admission a non-professional in behaviour modification, should have succeeded where countless psychologists and psychiatrists holding postgraduate qualifications have failed, in formulating a simple and effective way to stop smoking.”

Dr Martin Jarvis, Principle Scientist, Imperial Cancer Research
Fund and Reader in Health Psychology, University College London

”...I am more than happy to testify to Allen Carr’s enduring involvement and to recognise the value of the kind of behavioural and cognitive support he provides.”

Dr PM Bray MB CH.b., MRCGP

“I was really impressed by the method. In spite of the Allen Carr organisation’s success and fame, there were no gimmicks and the professional approach was something a GP could readily respect. I would be happy to give a medical endorsement of the method to anyone.”

Celebrity Endorsements

-His method is absolutely unique, removing the dependence on cigarettes, while you are actually smoking. I’m pleased to say it has worked for many of my friends and staff.”
Sir Richard Branson

“Some friends of mine who had stopped using Allen Carr’s method suggested I tried it. I did. It was such a revelation that instantly I was freed from my addiction. Like those friends of mine, I found it not only easy but unbelievably enjoyable to stay stopped.”
Sir Anthony Hopkins

GOOD LUCK!

Tips to quit smoking? -

I really would like to finally quit for good. The longest I-ve gone is 5 days but of course start back up. I truely enjoy it and have many things I do everyday in which I always smoke (shaving, reading paper,etc...) you know a normal routine. These are the things that always get me after a few days. If you can give me any tips or things you-ve replace a cig with I-d appreciate it. NO patches or pill suggestions please, Thank you.
Do you consume much caffeine? Hubby quit smoking about 14 months ago after 36 years. He read somewhere that nicotine actually helps break down caffeine in your system. When people cut out nicotine but keep up the caffeine it-s like the body is getting a sudden surge of caffeine which, in turn, makes it more difficult to quit smoking. He cut out caffeine at the same time as nicotine and said he found it easier to quit. He also took up excercising (weights, walking, jogging - stationary bike) to keep his mind off of it on bad days. I noticed a difference this time also (he tried quitting before)... he wasn-t as difficult to get along with and I didn-t feel a need to throttle him.... *g*
I was a smoker for 25 years and I had quit smoking for over six times ,but never really quit smoking before.Just after I read that quit smoking program, I realized how easy quitting smoking was.I am a non-smoker now! I highly recommend this program to you.It really works. You can check out

Good luck!
Chew Gum. Or get nicotine based gum.
they have smokeless cigarettes, just as a vice when you need it. oh and they also sell herbal smokes, they are free of any harm.
I was very lucky 8 yrs ago i had my last cig and threw the rest in the bin never to have another, however if you are really determined then may be a hobby or sport like gym. Don-t fall into the trap of eating as a lot of people put on weight.
Very good luck angi
Here is some information you can access

umm.. the nicotine gum, nicotine tablets and nicotine inhaler..

=D
Really smoking while shaving is normal?

Can you say loser?

Here-s what you do; throw away the lighter, toss those ashtrays while you-re at it, and keep the $200 plus dollars a month you spend on cigarettes in your wallet.

Now you-ll have more money and won-t stink so bad people can smell you for three blocks, upwind, anymore.
Try to focus on the fact that you don-t want to smell bad anymore, you-d like to have non-smokers as better friends, and be able to really enjoy the taste of food again.

Also, visit some lung cancer patients in a hospital.

The co-worker next to me, and another across the aisle both went cold turkey 2 years ago. I could smell them walk by 15 feet away before they stopped.
well me personally i hung around in places like hospitals or clinics as they don-t allow smoking, then i would ride the bus for a long time sometime 10 different routes a day cause you also can-t smoke on the bus, then by the time i got hom i was too tired to even think of smoking.
Choose a quitting date one week in the future.
For the next week, say goodbye to smoking by enjoying it as much as possible, guilt-free. Tell everyone around you that you are quitting in 1 week. Imagine what it would be like to not fear lung cancer, emphysema and yellow teeth.
The week before d-day, go out and buy a box of nicotine patches and a box of nicotine gum. While you-re at the drug store pick up some expectorant, some Benadryl, some really good chewing gum and some St. John-s Wort. The night before d-day, smoke all of your cigarettes. Think of all the things you hate about smoking. Calculate the money you-ll save. Do a Google search -lung cancer death- or -components of cigarette smoke-. Take three Benadryls and sleep a good eight hours. Place a patch next to your alarm clock.
The next day apply the patch as soon as you wake up. Remember the patch is there to give you a constant state of nicotine so that you can function. Grab the nicotine gum and put it in your pocket to fight sudden, intense cravings. As you make it through the first day, allow yourself every non-cigarette indulgence (except alcohol). Be aware of the slim chances you have of actually quitting for good, and congratulate yourself every hour for getting closer to it. The first night you need to completely knock yourself out with Benadryl again.
Taper your nicotine levels. Expect only mild mood swings as you reduce the nicotine levels from the patch and gum.
Quit the gum.
Quit the patch.

I just quit smoking. Im feeling very moody, what can I do?!? -

I just stopped smoking today and I feel like I-m going to kill someone soon. lol What can I do to curb my moodiness?! HELP! My husband will be home soon and I just know I-m going to bite his head off over something stupid.

lol
Congratulations...its a big step.

Warn your hubby that you are feeling grumpy and can he please just leave you alone or whatever you need him to do. That way it hopefully wont end up in an argument.

This anxiety and moodiness will go away in about a week or two. You are doing really well. Why not grab a water bottle and go for a walk as that will get your mind off whatever is troubling you. I chewed sugarfree gum instead of that nicotine one -cos thats really expensive.

I quit 3 years ago and I am so happy I did.

Well done...keep up the good work!
This is not an uncommon situation.

Normal, especially the first few days.

When you have a craving, sip on some water and hum a song. Sounds funny, but it does help. Go for a quick walk before he comes home to let off some steam.

I-m going to give you a site that I think will really benefit you. Its free and is used by long term quitters and newly quit. They are very supportive and will give you great tips and help you keep in the game. Its available 24 hours a day as well, which helps.

Do take the time to join it and get involved. You-ll be thankful it exists.

Hang in there. It does get better.

What are some tips to help quit smoking? -

one of the hardest things on me was watching television as for the quit smoking commercials always set my attitude off wanting the smoke....actually when i did smoke, these commercials reminded me to lite up, not just its- time to quit.even just normal shopping, i would see quit smoking signs, the patch, the gum...lol it made me remember i wanted that nicotine which went to- wow, i wish i had a smoke.).lol,there were reminders everywhere. i wouldnt watch television programs, i watched movies or friends helped record certain programs editing the commercials out..great friends!!! ..after 3 weeks i was over it, i could even be around the smell and not crave it. i quit cold turkey with rewarding myself on paydays of shopping with the money i saved. and after the end of the second month i was saving the money i was smoking away...it sure added up quick.already i was planning on evestments a year down the road with my savings, ..guess what ? i got what i was after.. years end ... lol. i put it to work. why not? i was burning it away, now i am putting it to work(.p.s..down payment on house.).. thinking and plannig kept my positive attitude and of smoking. keeping your hands busy is a big help so have your partner close by lol..nothing like lots of lovin when quitting.. i quit with a possitive atitude and succeeded...you can too..we all have our own personalities and know ourselves well, it is you that is in control. get some healthy drinkls and munchies, just watch you dont form another health risk. excercise..enjoy yourself..dont feel sorry for yourself..talk about to your friends, they will get your mind away from it. ..get cheesed off at the tobacco for taking control of you.. in a relationship, do you like a control freak? and let them away with it? then why let the smokes be a control freak if you dont like being controled. do it and succeed, enjoy your future. power to you all stopping and you yourself do have the power . go for it!!!!!! tom
if you-re well motivated to quit, one help could be given by seeing pictures of the effects of smoke, like lung cancer, esophagus, trachea cancer, enphisema and so on.
i think it can sometimes give the psychological -boost- that mayve is missing; also specific readings about the effects of smokeing on circulatory, respiratory, nervous system, and of the incoming problem that occur when you become old.
Aside from using a nicotine patch/gum, many people find their selves fighting the habit rather than the addiction. When I quit I would sometimes chew on a straw or eat a sucker. This will help with breaking the habit, which for many is the hardest part to kick.
Make another output like going to the gym, work out or focus yourself to other interest. Try something that you have never tried before, go to extreme sports. Sure Adrenaline rush can overcome your addiction from smoking. You could also try Nicorette gums.

i have brought quit smoking gum and am having trouble getting it to stay in one place at the back of my mouth and i need some advice. this is a weird question i know but im trying to quit and this gum is going to drive me mental and are starting to kinda burn my mouth and i am allergic to patches yet desperate to quit smoking and i dont want to pack it in so any help would be great. thanks!
CHEW IT, Girlfriend!! Apparently you-re not a gum-chewer. Keep chewing it with your back teeth. When you-re not chewing, it should sit on the SIDE of your mouth, not on the back fo your tongue.

I sure hope you can practice that, and get it down pat. By now, you-re probably ready to just not smoke anymore. No biggie! I promise. Been there, done that!! :)

Try Green smoke. It isn-t really a quitting thing, you-ll still have the addiction, but it gets rid of all the harmful chemicals, making it completely safe for you and everyone around you.

It-s an electronic cigarette designed to look, feel and taste like the real thing, but the only thing in it is nicotine and the only thing it gives off is water vapor. So no lung clogging, no cancer, and no danger to you or your loved ones... also no smell sticking to everything you own.

On top of that, it can save you up to 75% of what you would normally spend on cigarettes!
I spent 3 days in ENT ward in hospital next to a lady who had throat cancer, she looked and sounded awful and was in so much pain.

I-d been smoking for more than 10 years, around 20 a day, but that did it for me! I-ve now gone a month without a cig!

I never thought these things would ever stop me smoking - i,e the pictures on the cigarette packets... it must be personally knowing someone!

(this lady was being treated and not terminal, she still took cigarette breaks from her hospital bed - i can-t understand this now but i-ll bet i could have a month ago)

GOOD LUCK!
you cant it takes a long time
use nicotien patches and gum to help
and you will get grumpy and fat because you will be replacing cigaretts with food
it should take a year befor you stop craving cigarettes
Chantix is far and away the most effective stop smoking med, with a 40% success rate. That-s twice as high as any other technique.

I quit smoking after 40 yrs, In a couple days I can smell smoke second hand smoke smoke on my stuff hanging in the closet in the car, I bought some life safers put them in my front pocket that help , then I just put it in mind if I wanted to live stop . if I want to die lite up. that-s how I stop
Hello izzo!

Take a look at this discussion forum thread about people quitting with electronic cigarettes. Some say that using electronic cigarettes can help you quit smoking. Currently there is no scientific evidence for or against it.

One option is to gradually lower the level of nicotine in your cartridges to become nicotine and tobacco free.

The other option is to smoke electronic cigarettes with zero nicotine cartridges while applying nicotine patches. That way you separate addiction and habit.

Good Luck! It-s not easy ...
Yeah. Quit cold turkey. Every time you want a cigarette, do something else instead.
Or, every time yoou want one, just don-t smoke one.
I quit a year and a half ago.
If heroin addicts can kick their habit, you can kick nicotine.

Maybe if it gets bad you can use nicotine gum or the patch, but try not to use them at all. Use them only as a very last resort, and only in the first week. If you use patches all the time, you-re just going to start smoking again. Also, you will have no make a promise not to have -just one-. And keept it forever. I still have cravings when I am stressed or want one really bad when my friend lights up. I don-t have just one, even though I think it won-t do that much harm....because I know if I smoke one I-ll start smoking again.

Just don-t smoke. Don-t buy cigarettes. Don-t bum cigarettes. Don-t be around them. And go for a jog when you want one, it-ll be good for your lungs which probably need the extra help, and it-ll make you feel like quitting smoking is part of your new healthy lifestyle.
nothing any of us say can make you quit.

each of us, one day said -I-m done-, it was a knowing deep inside that it was over, that it was only a matter of time.

how did i do it? a little weird i-ll admit: picked a weeekend, and TOTALLY INDULGED and bought $200 of DVD-s and chocolate and potato chips. Over teh weekend (never left my house), the nicotine cravings were minimal, as my brain was SO DISTRACTED by being drowned with this other pleasure i have. The 48 hours were up pretty fast, and I was half-way home. Best $200 I ever spent. I was spending near that killing myself anyway.
Hi Dear

It is really very easy if you think a little.

I was in this habit for 30 years.
I said to myself that henceforth I am not going to be a SLAVE to my habits any more.
First week was difficult but latter I could smell anyone smoking in the neighbouring room
for your information...

stopping smoking is not somewhere outside.. i for instance is a smoker.. i have been smoking for 5,6 years,... and i just left smoking as i had a real fear of death in my mind.. i stopped smoking from august 2008 and till this april 3rd i was not smoking at all.. and this happened on 4th of april.. i was having adrink with my friend.. and he offered me a smoke.. which i wud generally avoid.. earlier.. accepted that day.. and i started smoking as if i have never left smoking...

so smoking s not a habit as people think.. it is only an event.. if you want to stop smoking .. dont think about it.. and when you really have the urge to smoke.. just say yourself this one time -i willNOT smoke.-

i was able to stop smoking just because i really had the fear of succumbing to cancer.....

so it is all in your mind.. your mind can do what is good for you if you really think you must do it!

be strong in your mind.. think of the negative things you would end up with if u continued smoking..

gud luk to stop smoking..

3 things u shall do ..
1.avoid places where u smoke.. like a smoking joint..
2.avoid persons who will encourage u to smoke..
3. tell every one you know that- U HAVE STOPPED SMOKING - this will make ur ego understand that if u smoke again that thall the words of all those who laughed at you saying -u can never- true, correct..

diver urself in any other activity u like .. when u feel to smoke.

well I quit smoking and bought a bag of dumb dumb suckers. I kept one in my car and one at home. It was something to do. You still need that oral sensation. I think they helped me get over it. It took my mind off of them. So anytime I wanted to smoke I would get a dumb dumb. I hope this helps you. Good luck!
I am not sure if quitting cold turkey would work , so why not one ciggy at a time?? it may take longer but it might be easier on the system?????
Different things work for different people. I would suggest talking to your doctor, and educating yourself on the topic. There are TONS of websites that can give you better information than you will find here. Here are just a couple:

Ok. It-s more than a couple. And there are so many more! Good luck with this. It is an addiction, so it is really hard work. But you can do it! Many people do. If you stick it out, you will not regret it one bit!
gum..
I-m currently using Chantix. I-m on day 5, and I-ve had no side effects. It has cut my smoking significantly and I-m not anxious, pissy, or nervous. Check out their website for all the info. It costs about $124 a month. I-m also going back to my acupuncturist as part of my stop smoking program (yeah it really helps, and no, it doesn-t hurt).
I have to agree with the substitution method. Use a -LOW CALORIE- substitue or you will gain weight.

Drink coffee to get the stimulant effect you miss when you quit nicotine. Quitting is tough, takes a force of will, but is worth it. You will eventually get un-hooked!!

Hint: NEVER EVER EVER Smoke ANYTHING ever again. Once an addict- always an addict.
Cold turkey, nic gum, nic inhalers, or you could try Chantix. It-s a new pill on the market that is supposed to take away the desire to smoke. There are also many quit smoking websites and support groups you can go to. www.quitnet.com. www.quitsmokingonline.com are two that I used with success.

I wouldn-t suggest quitting one cigarette at a time, in my many attempts at quitting the one thing I did learn for sure was that I can-t quit smoking by smoking.

Good luck!
You are lacking determination, devotion, decision making and strong desire.
You say that you had decided. Is it like that decided to quit but not to implement?
First thing is that you should have a strong desire, second make a decision that you will never touch a cigar or any other thing of its- kind. Third you should be determined with your decision, there should not be any change if you find that you have taken a right decision. Fourth you should devote yourself to any good work and not such silly things.
Now itsef decide that you will never touch a cigar and implement it everyday. If your mind pulls you towards it you tell it -not today, let us see tomorrow- and that tomorrow will never come in your life! Go ahead. Best luck.
Nicotine gum helps a lot. Also, going where there are people smoking can make you crave it more. Make a routine every time you have a craving, like eating a small peice of chocolate or drinking a glass of juice or water... Good luck!

Have you ever tried to quit smoking? -

What method did you use and how long did you stay quit?
I started smoking when I was about 19. I-ve quit off and on over the last ten or more years. I quit again last August cold turkey and have not had a cigarette or a desire to smoke since. It-s all mind over matter. When you-re ready to quit, you just do.
I started smoking at 17 and was smoking 20 a day by the time I was 21. I tried to quit for a boyfriend but the problem was that I was doing it for him, not me. Every time we split up or I was annoyed with him, I would smoke. Eventually he was off the scene and I was smoking again - mid 20s by this stage. Then I gave up for me. Motivation was adoption of a healthier lifestyle and it didn-t feel right before or after exercising so I wasn-t inclined to smoke. Still smoked when out at night drinking. Followed this pattern for a few years. Then got self destructive and smoked full time again for years. Each time I started again though I smoked less. Eventually, I didn-t enjoy smoking and it pretty much petered out. Been clean for years now. For the first time not even smoking when on a big night out. Dirty filthy nasty little cancer sticks. Expensive smelly antisocial. Glad hubby has now stopped as well. Don-t know what my lesson for you is. I think I just stopped because I didn-t want to any more. Hope you find something that works for you.
Well im just kid and i don-t smoke and don-t plan on it but my mom did. She used the proscription drug Chantix. She also chewed alot of chewing gum to keep her mouth busy. It Worked really well for her.

Does hypnosis really help you to quit smoking? -

Does hypnosis really help you to quit smoking? -

Only a minority of people can be put into a truly hypnotic trance. For most of us, it is variable how far we can or will go into one. Perhaps it-s a defense mechanism thing - at least unconsciously, we don-t like to loose our -sense- of control. For this reason, many people opting for hypnosis as a way to quit the dreaded weed will find it won-t really work. Also, you would have to take into account other issues and their interplay on the addiction. For example, there will always be things that we eat or drink that will trigger the desire to light up. Or it might be a certain behavior, like waiting for the bus and suddenly the addiction centre of our brain is lit up like a christmas tree or like fireworks night.There-s also peer group pressure for some, especially for younger woman, thanks to the really evil publicity campaigns by cigarette companies aimed at this demographic group. Finally, addictiveness as one example of our individual differences has to be also taken into account. We-re all wired differently on that big enigma. So the answer has to be probably -no-, but it-s still worth giving it a blast if you are serious about kicking the habit.
Didn-t work for my mother-in-law.
Maybe. I gave up after 12 years 1 pack a day by reading Allan Car-s -The easy way to quit smoking-. I think anyone that really wants to give up can actually find it easy to do once they realise that we are fooled into thinking that cigarettes are more addictive than they actually are. Once a small cigarette craving sets of a smokers mind, It is almost imposable for them to stop thinking about having a cigarette until they have one, but it is their mind that is doing this not their nicotine addiction. The cravings only last about 30 seconds and aren-t even very strong. Once a smoker realises this it is easy to quit if they really want to.
Hypnosis could work seeing as most of the addiction is in peoples mind. All you would need to do is deprogram people that it is to hard to give up.
me and my BF used -Commit Lozenges- and it really works!
It didn-t work for me either. I went with my son, he started again the same day. I lasted about 3 weeks. I think you have to really be ready and really want it. It plants the idea in your mind or reinforces it. But if your not ready, really, really ready don-t think it will work. They also sold vitamins? Or something that were supposed to help with withdrawal and help flush your system of the cravings faster. They were like $300.00, I didn-t get those. They were not in my budget. Maybe they would have helped???? I don-t know. But I also lived with 2 smokers and have friends that smoke so the temptation was always in my face so to speak. Well any way good luck to you. I need a cigarette! LOL
My sister had hypnosis to quit smoking, and it didn-t work.

From what I have observed, it takes a strong will, good support, and to have as much information as possible to make the choice as to which method (ie: nicotine patch, chewing gum, reducing, cold turkey) would work for you.

My father-in-law quit when he had to stay in hospital for some time due to renal failure.

Hope that helps!
It didn-t work for me.

Whats the easiest way to quit smoking? -

Whats the easiest way to quit smoking? -

There is no easy way. Nicotine addiction is a combination of physiological and psychological. All of the -just stop- responses are from people that have probably never smoked.

As a former pack a day smoker, I tried to quit several times. The last time I tried to quit, I used a combination of things. I chewed the nicotine gum and when I wasn-t chewing the nicotine gum I had a piece of regular sugarless gum in my mouth. Find some kind of support group. I went to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings (it sounds funny, but its true). The 12 step program for alcoholics also works for other types of addictions. For the first two to three months, stay away from environments where there are smokers (casinos, bars, etc.). Exercise, eat well, and keep yourself busy. Too much idle time will have you thinking about smoking. Good luck.
when you get any money send it to me!!! -smile-

I know your thinking of a name for me.
but there is a gum out there that might work for you and I heard of a pill in the new that stops smoking cold but I do not know what if anything happened to that or being hushed up .

I want to share a true story about my uncle, He smoked since he was 14 all the way up to age 76years old and he went in for a check up and the doctor checked him up and then he looked him in the eye and said -you better stop smoking now! or you-ll never live to see your next birthday which was 2 months away.
WHAT DO YOU THINK HE DID? yup you guessed it cold turkey!! he stopped but he also loved to bowl a lot and that was great and he enjoyed it but it made his back hurt and get arthritis the lower back and it keep getting worse until he could not stand t anymore so he checked into a hospital and asked for them to operate on the spine and clean the arthritis out of the lower disks - - - well that would have been it. the operation went fine they thought. he spent one night in ICU before going home .

but when he woke up in the morning his belly was ballooned up like he was pregnant with twins. it was a form of cancer called germ cancer it had attached itself to the outside of all of his organs and was just waiting to trigger or have something trigger it.

they drained his cheat and belly three times and his blood cell count was deadly low and each time they drained him they got 2 2 liters of vile yellow fluid and he was in pain from the first day it started to the day he died 5 days later. so again if you want to stop I hope and pray you can stop cold turkey! I miss him still today and I always will . he thought he was in the clear of cancer but it came back to stab him in the back not a joking way of play on words but actual a stab in the back (Lower part)
get lung cancer? maybe a heart attack?
i bought a hypnosis CD and had a reiki massage that was 10 days ago i have had one smoke in that time (was a packet a day) and felt horrible having it. i feel great now and am really positive i wont go back. try patches, chewys or gum, lozenges there are a few different things on the market now but you have to find what is right for you and have the guts and determination to do it. i looked at my kids and envisioned them smoking in 10 years and i didn-t want that!
there are NO easy ways to quit smoking, It-s one of the hardest habits to kick, but with the proper help you can succeed.
there are many sources of help out there, including your family doctor who can prescribe Zyban which helps eleviate withdrawl symptoms as well as help you stop thinking about the cigarettes, There is also Nicorette gum to help with the habit part itself.
there are also many online resources, and smokers helplines ,

As well as your self determination, you need to be willing to quit in order to quit,.
Even if you do quit for a few days and have a relapse, dont give up, try again,. the more you try, the more success you will have,.
Some people have the will power to quit COLD TURKEY,. but it-s one of the hardest ways to do so..
I personally recommend Zyban
I smoked from the age 12 - 36, and have been smoke free for 4 wks and I still use the Zyban till I have the confidence , that I wont go back to the cigarettes.
GOOD LUCK.!
There is no easy way. No, actually I think acupuncture helps.

But, absolutely nothing staves the cravings of the smoking a cigarette. You just have to have the will power to stop. I quit cold turkey. I fight the craving damn near every second I-m awake...its only been about 3 weeks. But dammit its so much better than smoking. Yeah, its hard but I feel so good to not give in.

My ex-boyfriend tried the patch......he was smoking within a week.
dying, i think
chew baccer
Cold turkey, thats how my hubby did,Once 15 years ago and then again 1 year ago.
my wife had a heart attack last year. she hasn-t smoked since.
don-t buy cigarette and make yourself busy, never think of smoking.
just stop..........
just STOP
Cold Turkey....and for those of you who don-t know that means just quit.
easiest is NLP hypnosis...u-re gonna have to program yourself to be cool in situations where you used to be smoking and around other smokers. 1/2 hour NLP session should do it.
all the previous answers are of obviously no help. The only way
to quit smoking is: you really have to want to.
You can buy Patches, Gum or have the Doctor prescribe Zyban
for you, these will help.
You can stop cold turkey I did it after 45 years of smoking.
I did chew gum for a couple of weeks, but by that time I didn-t
like the taste anymore. If you feel a craving coming on, go to your computer play games, drink water after 5 minutes the craving will pass. If you go to your Pharmacy ask the Pharmacist for a booklet, its free and there are also phone numbers you can call for support. And surround yourself with non smokers.
YOU CAN DO IT. Good Luck
Put the cigerette down and not pick another one up again. Especially, don-t put it near your lips.
Thats the most important part.

it makes your breath stink
Really

1-800 y not quit

How can I help someone when they are trying to quit smoking? -

Someone I know is trying very hard to quit smoking, and I want to be a source of support. Any tips?
Just remind them that quitting cold turkey is the cheapest and quickest way to do it. Every day I see women who find out they-re pregnant, so they quit. Or I see someone has heart problems or lung cancer, so they quit.
It-s just mind over matter! And it-s a stinky, expensive, stupid habit. Only the first couple weeks will be a little tough because it-s a habit. They should be proud to say, -I don-t smoke.-
A little willpower is all it takes! You-re a good friend. Here-s a star for you and your friend! Make sure they throw away all the cancer sticks they have! (Wet them first!! )
Good luck! ;)
keep them away from other people that smoke and places where they associate with smoking. thats the hardest, seeing or smelling it.

other than that, try and be there for them when they are stressed out so they dont resort to smoking.

How long does the most mentally challenging part usually last when you quit smoking? -

Ive heard 24 hrs,3 days and 2 weeks. I would like to hear from other peoples expereinces not on what you-ve heard. 2 more hrs will be 24hrs for me am i almost past the worst part or does it get harder?
each craving lasts only 2-3 minutes and how many cravings you have per day varies from person to person depending on how much you smoked before you quit. The key is to have a plan when the craving hits, like listening to your favorite song (that just so happens to last 3min and 22sec), or do 50 sit ups, whatever... FYI exercise is a great thing to do when quitting smoking because smoking increases your metabolism and you-ll need something else to do the same thing when you quit
it really depends on how long you smoked. i smoked for 18 years and now have been a non smoker for 9 years. the hardest part for me lasted for about 2 weeks. i had to find things to do with my hands instead of holding a cig. i used the patch to quit. are you doing it cold turkey? keep busy and know it-s ok to cry (i know that sounds funny but i remember crying out of frustration) good luck to you and good health is coming
That depends on you and how much your fixating on it right now. The more you think and worry about it the harder its going to be.
Personally I found days 3 and 4 difficult. I am a month in and after that first week I havent looked back. If possible find something else to do to take your mind off it. I started running (of all things). Good Luck and congradulations on taking the first step.
Today makes 43 days for me. Thanks you, jj lol
really it does and i still have days where I wake up and want one. the first week noone wanted to be around me and I didn-t really like myself. My doctor told me if you can go for 24 hours with out one then it is a mind over matter thing. She also said that for everything to get out if your lungs, that usually takes 3 months. So I think even if you have quit for 7 years, there still may be days that the cravings are worst then others. Stick to it! Keep your chin up! You are doing a good thing here. Good luck!
the first week...
I am on my 6th day. My worst day was day # 2, after that it gets better and better, although last night I had a hard time going to sleep. That was weird, kinda felt like I was having some sort of panic attack, but today I feel fine again. I read a book by Allan Carr and he said 3 weeks is the magic number of days til you feel free.
well I-ve been smoking for, holy sh**, 11 years, wow that-s bad. Anyway I-m sure the damadge is done now but regardless, I-ve been off the butts for a week now. I dont really have any cravings, nothing unusual is happening. I think the hardest part is not smoking when you are out drinking, this I have not overcome yet. It-s not bad at all for me at work and in the car and such but when I-m out partying I make up for the week. Something about beer and smokes is just too good (I-m gross, I know) anyway good luck quitting. It will make your skin look nicer too so there-s an added bonus I guess.
You-ll feel it for a couple weeks but dont give up you-ll feel so much better.
From personal experience, it pretty much lasts your whole lifetime. I smoked at least a pack a day for about 10 years. I quit, cold turkey. Been without for at least as long, but a day doesn-t go by when I don-t want a smoke. I just don-t. I mean, when you drink a cup of coffee, you-re gonna think, maybe just for a second or two, -boy, a smoke would go great right about now- and then you stop thinking it. The trick is to just not dwell on it. You don-t have to tell yourself that you-re not getting the urge....you simply tell yourself you-re stronger than the urge. It helps to love someone...that way, you-re doing it for someone else as well....
unfortunately forever it is a constant mind struggle to quit smoking just like any other craving usually if you quit one bad habit you will pick up another usually just as bad

water on them accidently and I decided at that point i-m done, can do without. i was never a heavy smoker-4 or 5 a day for 15 years. but my question is i am always hungry now, any tips for ex-smokers on how to combat this? Don-t get my wrong I am more than willing to gain weight to have a longer healthier life just would like some tips. thanks
Some ppl start putting toothpicks in there mouth and them some start eating peanuts then they gain weight...
yes its common for newly quit people.. to put on a few -newly quit pounds-.. there are subtle changes to your metabolism, as now food simply tastes better.. in time the weigh goes away.. unless one is morbidly obese the risk of a few pounds is much less than continues smoking..

congrats on the quit however it was achieved..these is simply no wrong way to quit..

I-ve never understood this...

Does being hungry mean you HAVE to eat? No.
I want a cigarette right now and I-m NOT going to go smoke one.
I want to open those Doritos but I-m not going to do that either.

If you can resist the urge to smoke, you can resist the urge to eat a bag of potato chips. You can do it!

Quitting smoking: what helped you most during the first few weeks? -

I-m in the middle of family members quitting. What helped you to quit and what was really helpful from others when trying to quit?
I smoked two packs a day and quit a little over year ago...

It will be different for each person but it was important for me for those around me to understand and tolerate my complete and utter cruelty. Please keep in mind that when they lose their patience, their nerve, etc it is likely that you have done NOTHING to trigger the emotion but they may take it out on you. I-m not saying its ok but it you fight back it only makes it worse. I-m only sharing this as it sounds like you want to be as supportive as you can and this is one way.

Also the first few days my husband (a non smoker) and I went places where there is no smoking (museums etc) so that it wasn-t an option and I didn-t see/smell it around me.

Good luck and thanks for supporting a soon to be non smoker!
I chewed nicotine gum. The first day is the hardest. If you can go one day, you can do two and then three. Take one day at a time. Try to keep yourself busy and deviate from your routine.
My dad chewed on wintergreen lifesavers.

Of course, the biggest help would be not having any cigarettes around. Throw -em all out.

I never smoked before and I never will. but i heard that chewing gum
helps to quit smoking.
I quit two months ago for health reasons. My suggestions would be Nicorette and blowing bubbles.

So all day today I havent smoked at all. Its really not as hard as I thought it would be, but I really need some home remedies or something to help me really quit besides patches and nicotine gum. I know its mind over matter but what did you do??

Thank you
autumn(:
you know that quiting smoking is equal to quiting Haroun
Try Green smoke. It isn-t really a quitting thing, you-ll still have the addiction, but it gets rid of all the harmful chemicals, making it completely safe for you and everyone around you.

It-s an electronic cigarette designed to look, feel and taste like the real thing, but the only thing in it is nicotine and the only thing it gives off is water vapor. So no lung clogging, no cancer, and no danger to you or your loved ones... also no smell sticking to everything you own.

On top of that, it can save you up to 75% of what you would normally spend on cigarettes!
Well i dont know if u noticed but if u dont smoke for a few hours in the morning u have less of an urge to smoke during the day. Eventually ull be down to 2-3 a day. Thats when it comes down to ur will power. Thats how i quit a 16 year habit. Give it a try. Good luck
How many a day do you smoke? I used to smoke 9 or 10 a day. Now I only smoke 2 or 3. What I do is only smoke one before work and 2 after. I keep my cigarettes at home. And if I feel the urge to buy one from somebody, I chew gum or drink water.
Chew ice . It worked with my mom . She usually smokes a pack a day . And then she just qot this thinq for ice . - once she started to eat it, She hasn--t smoked a ciqqarate all day that day . (:

Do you have any ideas how to quit smoking?
Perhaps you should join a Quit Smoking Clinic.
1. hard intend
2. go to dentististry and clean your teeth
3. change from smoke to candy
Try Wellbutrin or Chantix.
I want to quit smoking too, I have tried so many things with the exception of prescription drugs. I know that smoking is much more than just a nasty habit, its an addiction in fact it is just as addictive as cocaine and just as hard to quit however, I am dismayed at the lack of knowledge that I have been reading here in answers. People smoke for similar reasons that alcoholics drink and drug users use drugs. I am searching for the reason I smoke and I think I have found it. It bothers me that there is no treatment centres for smokers at least not where I live, yes there are hotlines, but that isnt enough and throwing prescription medications at it may not be the answer for everyone. Smoker-s know what the damages of smoking are to themselves as well as others, its not because we dont love our children or families, it is because we are ADDICTED to it. My advice is to find out what your triggers are, and deal with that, and when you are ready you will quit, I believe that it is partially psychological. We all smoke for a reason. I hope that this can be an insight to the non smokers, to try to understand the addiction and that for us its not just a choice anymore its a need
cut down on drinking and realize it-s a nasty habit...
Simple. If you value your health - -ergo- your life (and the lives of people around you), quit smoking.

If you don-t, then go on enriching the lives of owners of corporations as you slowly die in the process.
use those nicotene patch things. my dad did and it worked very well and he complety stopped.

try working out..it gets out alot of the stress and tension that would normally make you smoke. also focus on a healthy diet because then you will have more engery and feel better about yourself.. and when you feel a craving, take a walk..cravings usually only last 10 minutes so if you can find something else to do it will usually pass..and some studies show that taking a walk when you crave a cig fights it off..i quit after 3 years of smoking and i didnt use any of those patches or gum and ive been smoke free for 5 months so far.
Make the choice.

I quit smoking. Now whats going on with my metabolism? -

I always heard that most people gain around 5 to 10 pounds when they quit smoking. This happened to me and I-m wondering why this is? I-ve been eating salads and cutting back on bread and pop and so forth ... but I still gained weight.
I have much more energy now since I-ve quit smoking and I seem to exercise more. But my weight stays in the same range and fluctuates 5 pounds up and down. Is this normal? What-s going on?

And if any more details are needed, I-ll be glad to respond to your answers as they are posted.
Good for you that you quit smoking. Heres something I found for you.

Most people experience a small amount of weight gain when they quit smoking. This is due to metabolic changes our bodies go through when we quit. A gain of 5 to 10 pounds is normal.

Nicotine affects our bodies in a variety of ways, one of which is to elevate metabolism, so when we quit smoking, metabolism slows and a slight gain is usually the result. If the scales go higher than a 10 pound gain though, chances are your eating habits have changed.

Combat excessive weight gain by following these tips:

Eat a Well-Balanced Diet:

Give your body the fuel it needs by eating plenty of the right foods. Lots of fresh fruit and vegetables; leans meats; low-fat dairy products and whole grains are important. Avoid the empty calories in junk foods.

Drink Water

Not only is it a great craving-buster, water will help to flush residual toxins from cigarettes out of your body more quickly. Metabolism slows when the body is dehydrated, so drinking water will offset weight gain by giving your metabolism a boost. Good hydration also helps you feel better in general, which will make a difference in how you weather nicotine withdrawal symptoms.

Exercise Daily

Pick a form of movement that appeals to you and do it every day. Walking is a great low-impact cardiovascular choice, especially for those who haven-t been doing much exercise. Start out with a 15 minute walk, and increase the frequency and amount of time as you are able.

Get More Rest

Most of us don-t get enough rest and it can adversely affect weight loss efforts. Make sure you get enough sleep and take power naps now and then if you can do it.
Be sure to practice a little patience! A small weight gain isn-t the end of the world. You-re working hard to rid yourself of a tough addiction, so don-t fret if you put on a few pounds in the process. Take good care of yourself overall, and you-ll be much less likely to over-indulge.

Weight can always be lost, but lungs cannot!

Good luck and I hope I helped!!
if you are a woman your weight will always fluctuate because one week out of the month we tend to retain more water
smoking is a natural metabolism booster, not to mention it-s an appetite suppressant, your body is in shock and doesn-t know what to do right now. Just keep doing what you are doing, and in one month it will stable out.
Every time you smoke a cigarette your heart beats faster. The smoke in each puff replaces the oxygen you-d be breathing in, if you weren-t smoking. The cells of your body need oxygen to function, so the heart has to pump faster to bring what little it gets to all your cells Your heart is a muscle. When it beats faster, during smoking, it burns calories. When you stop smoking, your heart doesn-t need to beat as fast anymore. This results in a slowing of one-s metabolism. This is the reason why gaining a few pounds is almost impossible when a person quits. On the plus side, the weight gain is temporary. Most people who quit find the weight drops off within a years without any additional exercise or dieting. Think of the weight as a part of the healing process.

Congratulations on quitting. The health benefits you gain in the long run will be well worth gaining a few temporary pounds.
Nicotine is a stimulant which is the same kind of drug that is given to overweight people to help them lose weight, so it-s not a big surprise that quitting helps you gain weight.

If it-s not happening to you, maybe you substituted your smoking with another stimulant like more caffeine or another type of medicine. Hopefully you know that if you-re still taking nicotine in the form like a patch or gum then your body-s still using the nicotine and has yet to feel the effects of quitting.

You say you-re going up and down in weight but in the same range. Another thing about stimulants is it causes you to retain less water. Most people can easily lose and gain 5 pounds of water weight at any given time. Going on a strict diet for a day or two can make you lose that much because it-s just water.

Does this really work? How can a couple of lasers treat such an addiction?
I wouldn-t call it surgery. But it-s permanent. Cures smoking and all other ailments of life. Including life itself.

Cured the patient with a single pill, so to speak
I had heard about the pills to stop smoking.
Saw it online.
But then, I do not know how it uses.
If have to take pill, but for how long?
It might helped U quite smoking but lead U to be addicted to the pill instead!
Maybe whenever U smoke U tell yourself even after U smoke U still bored. Smoking not fun at all.
And day by day U-ll cut down and one day U might not need it again.
It-s all in your mind!
thats stupid in my opinion.
is that even a question please....the only way 2 quit smoking is by doing on ur own thats called WILL POWER
i don-t know
