Have you ever heard of a person who just UP amp; QUIT smoking COLD TURKEY? -

My mom did that. I-m very surprised! I-m glad she quit.
I did this in 1988, usually it comes as a result of something shocking emotionally. In my case it was a girl I was crazy about telling me how much she liked me before I started smoking...and then how dissapointed she was when she found out that I had started.. **sniff sniff
my dad did when he found out about the bible and that god doesn-t like that. so he just through it out hasn-t looked or had one since.
Yeah, me....but then I started back two years later. Not quite the example I want to set, but it does demonstrate that it is possible.
I have heard of peopld doing that. They are lucky and I wish them well.
yeah i know some people who did and now they cant stand the smell of it anymore

Is it life threatening if I quit my smoking habits now ????????????? -

I found severe stomach pain and admitted in hospital. In the discharge summary I came to know that I am having problem in my lever which has got swollen. Now I left my regular Alcohol drinking habit (6 days gone). Now i am suffering from insomnia due to not taking alcohol. Also i am smoking since 1994, at an average of 14 cig/day. Presently i want to quit smoking also. Can it cause any serious problem to me?
I-ve only heard positive things about quitting. Since the nicotine is addicting, you will have withdrawl symptoms. These symptoms can range from mild to severe, but will pass. Do not be surprised if quitting cigarettes adds to your insomnia. You-ll also feel anxiety (which I-m sure you are feeling from not drinking). You will have many different moods, also. The first 3 days of quitting is the hardest. After that it will get easier. Your lungs will start clearing and you may develop a phlemy cough. This is good. It may be brown as it-s purging the gunk from your lungs. For me when I quit, I woke completely drenched with perspiration a few nights. Again all normal. Foods will start tasting great about a week after quitting, and you will gain some weight. While quitting your nicotine/alcohol addictions, it-s important to drink a lot of water to help flush all the toxins in your system that have been building up over the years. The water will also help you feel better physically. Good luck to you! This is a very smart decision you have made. May your symptoms pass quickly!
it is best to quit now
You will experience withdrawal from the alcohol and the tobacco but is is better to quit together as one is usually a trigger for the other, your health can only improve from the cessation of both of these habits, cigarettes are very hard to quit especially for a drinker, drink lots of water and get as much walking and light exercise as you can handle, it takes your mind off of your habits and lets you sleep better at night. Don-t use ant substitutes to replace these habits, you will only end up with another addiction. exercise is the new addiction you want, don-t drink a lot of coffee as a substitute either it is also addictive ..GOOD LUCK YOU KNOW YOU CAN DO THIS DIG DEEP AND USE ALL OF YOUR RESOLVE....YOU ARE DOING THE RIGHT THING
I am not a doctor, but surely giving up the alcohol and cigarettes is a positve step to your recovery process, but also a hard road to travel for you. Get some professional advice from your GP. Good Luck and well done for being able to change, I am sure your body will thank you for it.
no serious problems w/the quitting of the smoking.....more problem w/quitting of the chronic drinking but it sounds like they mighta detoxed you at the hospital......just quit the ciggs if you can.....you prolly need some outpatient counseling at the very least for the alcohol if you have drank long enough to mess up ur liver.....
Your liver is the most complicated organ in your body.

Getting over that is your most greatest challenge right now.

Wait till your liver gets better before you try to tackle the other--STAY OFF THE DRINK!!

You can do this.

Hang in there. Cut back on the smoking gradually.

What do i do to quit smoking? -

What do i do to quit smoking? -

will power....

nothing to it.....
Try ur level best and mail me after u quit.Even i want to try....
-smoke until your last day of work or school, and then begin quitting on the weekend (or whatever days you have off).
-indulge in other things you like, to the point of foolishness if you feel like it, during the first few days.
-sleep a lot and watch a lot of TV.
-avoid situations that frustrate you – you won-t deal with frustration very well.
-avoid any place where people will be smoking.
-call people whom you know well enough to impose upon and complain to them about how lousy you feel.
-keep a lot of your favorite non-alcoholic drinks on hand. --You will probably feel very thirsty, you-ll want to replace the oral gratification of cigarettes with something, and drinking fluids helps to flush the nicotine out of your system faster.
-have something to do with your hands and/or your mouth. If you like chewing gum, chew it, if you like ripping apart action figures, do so.
-remember that you-re one cigarette away from failure.
the way i quit smoking was i started using snuf. its a very fine form of tobacco that you snort
The truth that really works is to do it slowly,
each day use less and less until you can go a day with out them, then try two days and so on. Cold turkey is the hardest to do. Good luck...
catch my flu or wait till you get it - you will never want to smoke again. The amount of phlegm and mucus I am producing AND it hurts to cough so much so that i am kind of stuck. try that.
Use the patch. It works. Find a non-tobacco replacement for putting something in your mouth when you get the craving: gum, pretzel, cookie, whatever.

Be prepared to suffer a little withdrawal so you-re not frustrated by it when it happens. Your entire body is going to hurt and your brain is going to insist that the only way to feel better is to smoke. This is where your will power comes into play. Think of all the reasons to quit: Your health, your friends, your family, how embarrassing it is to be a smoker these days, how good you-re going to feel once you-ve quit. It-s very, very hard but so worth it.

I-ve never smoked, but I had other addictions to quit and it was the hardest, most painful experience. All I can say is congratulation on making the decision. Now be prepared to see it through.
Chop off your hands
This method works for me and is the only money back guaranteed.
I quite smoking 2 years ago

Get the Facts
Easyway, founded by Allen Carr in 1983, has the highest independently verified 12-month success rate (75.8% for a smoker completing the program) of any quit smoking technique and a 90% satisfaction rating.

Compare Easyway to other methods and see for yourself why Easyway is called “The Cadillac of quit smoking methods.”

The Allen Carr Method
HOW THE METHOD WORKS

Using psychotherapy, the method works in the opposite way to the “willpower” method. It does not concentrate on the reasons the smoker should not smoke : the money, the slavery, the health risks and the stigma. Smokers know all that already. Instead it focuses on why smokers continue to smoke in spite of the obvious disadvantages.

It is fear that keeps smokers hooked!

Fear the smoker will have to give up their pleasure or crutch. Fear the smoker will be unable to enjoy life or handle stress. Fear the smoker will have to go through an awful trauma to get free. Fear the smoker will never get completely free from the craving.

The Method removes these fears
Smokers quit with the Allen Carr Method as happy non-smokers, not feeling deprived but with a huge sense of relief and elation that they have finally achieved what they always wanted….

TO BE FREE!

What about the terrible withdrawal pangs from nicotine?

The physical withdrawal from nicotine is so slight that most smokers don’t realise that they are addicts. What smokers suffer when they try and quit using other methods is the misery and depression caused by the belief that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch.

The Allen Carr Method removes this feeling of deprivation.
It removes the need and desire to smoke. Once the smoker is in the right frame of mind and they follow the simple instructions, the physical withdrawal from nicotine is hardly noticeable.

No Gimmicks!

The Method does not use any gimmicks, useless aids or substitutes. No nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, tabs, inhilators or nasal sprays! No needles! No lasers! No drugs! No herbs! No shock treatment!

The Allen Carr Method is successful because:

It removes the smokers’ conflict of will.
There are no bad withdrawal pangs.
It is instantaneous and easy.
It is equally effective for long-term heavy smokers and light smokers.
You need not gain weight.
You will not miss smoking.

Medical Endorsements

A personal view from Professor Judith Mackay MBE, JP, FRCO (Edin), FRCP (Lon), World Health Organisation Advisory Panel on Tobacco and Health

“I have no hesitation in supporting Allen Carr’s work. Many clinics use some of his techniques but it would appear that few do it in quite such a successful package.”

Carole Johnson, Coronary Heart Disease Prevention Unit, Tyne Tees

“his success rate was such that, when budgets allow, we continue to use Easyway for work with specific groups and individuals.”

Dr Anil Visa BSc, MBBch., FRCA, Consultant – Royal Hospitals NHS Trust – Royal London Hospital

“I have observed the Allen Carr method at first hand and have found it to be very successful and I wholeheartedly support it as an effective way to quit smoking.”

Dr William Green, Head of Psychiatric Dept, Matilda Hospital, Hong Kong

“It is a remarkable fact that Allen Carr, on his own admission a non-professional in behaviour modification, should have succeeded where countless psychologists and psychiatrists holding postgraduate qualifications have failed, in formulating a simple and effective way to stop smoking.”

Dr Martin Jarvis, Principle Scientist, Imperial Cancer Research
Fund and Reader in Health Psychology, University College London

”...I am more than happy to testify to Allen Carr’s enduring involvement and to recognise the value of the kind of behavioural and cognitive support he provides.”

Dr PM Bray MB CH.b., MRCGP

“I was really impressed by the method. In spite of the Allen Carr organisation’s success and fame, there were no gimmicks and the professional approach was something a GP could readily respect. I would be happy to give a medical endorsement of the method to anyone.”

Celebrity Endorsements

-His method is absolutely unique, removing the dependence on cigarettes, while you are actually smoking. I’m pleased to say it has worked for many of my friends and staff.”
Sir Richard Branson

“Some friends of mine who had stopped using Allen Carr’s method suggested I tried it. I did. It was such a revelation that instantly I was freed from my addiction. Like those friends of mine, I found it not only easy but unbelievably enjoyable to stay stopped.”
Sir Anthony Hopkins

GOOD LUCK!
Do what you can...chew gum instead of smoke, find a stress reliever (throw a tennis ball at a wall, etc.), do what you want when you get a craving.
I think the only way to quit is to do it -Cold Turkey- Because I believe no matter what you take to try to quit you have to truely want to quit or nothing will work. I quit for 8 mo.
stay off it as long as you can and if you do give in look at it objectively and ask yourself whether it is really worth all the trouble
call the QUIT help line..if in Australia
Bill Hicks said It best when he said
-I-m planning on quitting gradually. First I-ll lose one lung, then a few years later I-ll lose the other-

In all seriousness though, if you dont already, take up excercising, quit puffing, and then feel how much easier it is when you dont smoke. The difference is massive.
Stop doing it. Think about all the negative effects of it.
Yellow teeth, bad breath, yellow nails, and dry and unhealthy looks... and of course there-s the Lung Cancer.
get the patch on, throw away all your smoking materials, and take a half hour walk each and every time you really want a smoke, that way you will quit and not gain weight.
Don;t forget to reward yourself for each week, for the 1st 2 months. manicures, cd-s, car detailing, stuff like that.
but lots of gum and patches. Give all your remaining cigarettes and your cash to a close friend. Work on something all consumng (like a brady bunch marathon) for a week. After a week the cravings should be tollerable.
stop buying them a s s h o l e!!
Quitting smoking is extremely difficult. The withdrawl makes us not want to, but we know the risks and we know that they are not worth it. For anyone who wants to end their nicotine addiction, check out www.stopsmokingcleveland.com. This is the MOST effective method on the market. It is 86% effective and the details of the program are on the website (no signing up or submitting your information).

I tried this program and it changed my life.
Try run or begin employe with some sport.

I answered a similar question before here you go. Nicotine is a very Strong drug It takes over a very important function in your body sugar metabolism and dopamine levels in your brain. Nicotine instantly releases blood sugar from your pancreas this is why you always want a smoke after a meal. Nicotine acts as a precursor to dopamine your brain gets flooded with dopamine when you smoke making you feel happy and satisfied. To quit you
must do other activities to mimic dopamine release exercise sex All release dopamine. gets some candy to replace your need for sugar and drink lots of water to flush out the nicotine in time your body will return to normal sugar metabolism.
It will be two years for me in march and I still have dreams about smoking, so I think you-ll never get over it, or forget that you use to smoke if you have smoked thirty years like myself. Everytime I think about it I also think about how it made me sick. The only withdraws I have is spitting up Flem, and coughing a lot.
The first weekend ( i started Friday after work) I rented tons of movies, laid on the couch with a pillow and blanket and ate junk food. I pretended I had the flu. Some people would probably rather be distracted and active. But I felt very stressed and just being a couch potato was best for me. Withdrawl is really terrible, the cravings are intense, but after the third day it got much better. When I was tempted to smoke, I just told myself I would be wasting all the hard work I had put into it already. I smoked from from the age of 15 to 32. I never thought there would be a day when I would not crave a cigarette, but now it-s almost six years later and the smell of smoke makes me sick. Every day it gets better if you commit to it and don-t cheat. And if you can, limit the time you spend around smokers (That helped me a lot, but of course is not possible for everyone).
I haven-t personally dealt with this problem but I have witnessed firsthand the struggle that a smoker must endure to quit. My father quit and started again more times than I can count. Although he has struggled, I am proud to say that he has finally quit for the last time. He got the no smoking shot. Now I don-t know you, your budget, or your habits, but I do know that for the mere price of $507 you can quit forever. The only catch is that you have to truly want to quit. The shot will take care of all phyiscal cravings and withdrawal symptoms, but you have to mentaly prepare and stay mentaly strong to pull through and stay quit. And remember, we-re all rooting for you and you-ll never make a better decision.

I hope this helps and wish you the best of luck.
If u think to smoke, get a sweeing gum and swee it. practice 4 2 to 3 months. and see the result.
I just got sick of it and the smell of it and just quit. If you can quit buying them ( or bumming them) you are most of the way there. You have to want to quit, tho. Not smoking has to become the habit, instead of smoking. After a month it is a lot easier. then it just gets more easy after that.
Hi,
I-m constanly now being asked -How Do I Stop Smoking?-
I really emphathise with you, I quit my 20 a day habit in a pain-free way!
No stress, no cravings, no weight gain, no pills, patches or gums.
The program I followed was recommended by a friend and now boasts a 90% success rate and is 100% fully guaranteed - can-t say fairer than that

All the best..

What is the most practical way to quit smoking? Please mind when i say PRACTICAL....? -

Over the time i have heard things like: Will Power, Keep non smoking company, spend the day differently? But the most important thing i would like to know.......what should be the thought process.......how to encourage oneself for the same.........coz whenever i try to do......i get a fear...........that i am missing something very very important........I would appreciate if you could help me in quitting this habit? I have been smoking since last 10 yrs.....
i really don-t understand why quitting smoking is so difficult for som epeople. maybe it is cos u have nothing to do all day long? or u have some tension cos u re stressed, depresed or unhappy? i had been smoking since i was 15. now i am 37 - one day i decided to quit smoking cos i had some difficulties of breathing at night probably cos of goitre which all smokers have. so i just quitted smoking. just like this. i still smoke like 1 or 2 cigs if i go out and drink, but not always and i dont- have any cravings at all. so it is all in just saying to yourself -i don-t want to smoke any more-. not -i must stop smoking- but -I DON-T WANT TO SMOKE-. this is my tip. good luck. just nmake yourself believe that u don-t want it any more

thou i must add after reading someone suggestions - i have absolutely no health improvement, face improvement or teeth whitening improvement after quitting smoking. i has been 10 months. i don-t feel different at all somehow. but maybe it-s just me
whats stronger, you or the cigarette? I just asked myself if I was strong enough to stop. I found its easier to not do something than to do it. Food started to taste better and I could smell and breathe better only after a few days and smoking didn-t make sense quickly, I feel more confident, cleaner, and healthier because I quit and knowing this I will never smoke cigarettes again. I quit 5 years ago and smoked a pack a day for 5 years. cold turkey with an occasional nicorete about one a day, midday for the first week and lots of sunflower seeds, it gets easier quickly. I told everyone I was quitting and owned up to it and they supported me at I didn-t want to let down my family and friends.
to quit smoking you find the thing other than smoking which you like the most i.e playing games, watching movies..etc and try to give most of your time doing that......i think slowly you will be able to quit smoking....and most imp be with your friends and enjoy life......
Just stop. There is no other easier way. It is impossible to stop in instalments. Say no and feel great about it. Feel happy when your mouth does not stink, your hunger is normal and keep looking at your body everyday - there is a change particularly when you work out. There is a glean on your face when you stop smoking. Watch your face everyday after you quit smoking - there is a shine. Your teeth look great after every brushing when you quite smoking. These are positive aspects to STOP SMOKING. Feeling great being a non-smoker will help you get out of this habit.
do u have a checkbook or check card? think about the politician you can-t stand the most.....everytime you smoke make a monetary donation to him/her. lol. you will quit in a week.
good quistion , first of all u try slowly if you smoke 2 sigrate daily then it is 1 then it is zero it is progress you want to need , sigrate is your habit so u take another habit that chewing gum etc it is also helpful to quit sigrate you kept sigrate and chewing gum in your pocket when u want sigrate u take chewing gum and eat it ok
There are a few things that helped me. One is to figure out how much one cig costs u and every time u have the urge, put aside that much money. Its helpful to see how much you-re saving. Another that may sound kinda goofy but I swear it got me through is I would find gum that opened like a pack of cigs and were the sticks (ex. orbit and dentyne). I think it kinda tricked my mind by doing half the habit. Good luck!!!

Ten years ago my wife was getting breathless when walking so we both decided to pack in smoking and neither of us has had a cigarette since all you need is motivation determination and a bit of will power, One tip I can give is don-t sit and brood about it keep busy and here-s a bit of motivation the money you save in a year will pay for a luxury cruise
Well, I used them for a week and ended up with a right nippy ring. Wouldn-t recommend them unless you have a steel starfish.
The best way to quit smoking is to have the will. Once the will is there go ahead. You can do it.
was thinking of gettig them myself, but my mrs swears the patches! she gace up first time with them! Im thinking of going that way, not sure I like the referral of the person above, I cant be shitting needles!

the reason is gas prices are so high now and between gas prices and buying cigarettes i spend at least $80-$100 a month. This will be my first time ever doing this, i don-t even know how to quit or avoid the cravings. I really can-t afford the smoking cessation classes . Need advice please and thank you to all .
The worst thing you can do is make a big deal out of quiting. If you try to set goals, buy gum patches or some other crazy tactic, you just think about it more! I smoked for ten years. I still do! But I now smoke maybe 5 cigs a week socially when im out or what ever. Which regardless of what you read is no larger health risk than eating meat! I used to smoke two packs a day tho! Its all mental. Find a reason you care about to make you stop. Mine was exorcise. I was trying to get in shape and smoking was slowing me down. So in turn i wanted to not smoke more than i wanted to smoke. it just happened. If you say Ive gotta quit or make some stupid resolution to do it you ll just feel pressure ....which makes you need a smoke!! you can do it. Dint let the media tell you that you need anything but mind over mater.
Do you have health insurance through work? Your primary physician can help you with some kinds of new medications that help. Gum chewing, breath mints and all that have never helped me quit, so to me, that is out of the answer. Cold turkey quitting though is not good for your system as it could shock your body. You need to quit slowly and you CAN do it if you want to bad enough. If you don-t have insurance, look in your local newspaper, they usually have a space of community events for the next week, etc and a lot of times they have free smoking cessation classes although it may be a group thing. It could help. Make some calls to places in your community, I will bet someone would be able to hook you up with what you need. Good luck, it-s hard to do, but you can do it!
The best way is to do it for something/someone you love.

My dad quit for my mom.
My mom told him to stop or there divorcing

My dad used the nicorette gum - patch and he said he didnt crave it anymore.

Also . There is nicorette cigarrets.

No smoke . Shila lobouf uses them [:

After you start slowing down , try taking either the patch off or stop the gum . Then the craving will go away.

But you probally will have to keep chewing gum .
Dosent have to be nicortte
just gum.
smoking is so hard to quit unless you really really want to.... i have tryed but i dont want to bad enough....Get yourself addicted to something else like gum or somthing.... and the certain times you had a cigarette that was a habit... eat a peice of gum............what my mom did (which is really funny) was buy those fake cigarettes.......it was to help with the -Smoking Actions- ehh whatever..... try your hardest..... its hard to quit though.......you will probably gain weight if you do haha food is a great way to cope when u dont have any cigs
Cold Turkey is the absolute best way to kick an addiction cigarettes. This way there are no chemicals (like with the gum or the patch) being put into your body.

If you can-t handle that route, use the gum/patch.
I read a book called the Easy way to quit smoking. It was monumentally helpful. It takes away all the fears of stopping. I haven-t smoked in years and never had a withdrawal symptom.
strong self motivation can help you to quit smoking.

I-m not a smoker, I have no advice, I just want to say WAY TO GO! I think anyone who can quit smoking deserves a lot of praise! You can do it! I just wanted to say Kudos!
Personally, I had to quit cold-turkey. It was all or nothing.

Ive quit smoking, when will the weight go away? -

I quit smoking 4 months ago. I am middle aged and generally slim. i-m not watching what I eat, but I-m not a big eater. I do pilates or yoga each morning and walk the dog for an hour each day. I-ve put on 5 kilos and since exercising have stayed steady, but can-t seem to shift the 5 kilos gained. I-ve been exercising 4 weeks. Has anyone else had the same problem?
Lets face it, as we get older our metabolism slows down, and quiting smoking doesn-t help for weight gain. I personally would rather gain a few pounds then spend the rest of my life not being able to breath well, or have lack of energy! I quit smoking 3 times(thirds a charm!) and last time I gained 10 pounds. It took me about a year of routine excercise before I got back to just about normal. Still looking for the extra couple to go. Good Luck and congrats. Don-t let a little weight discourage you!
Of course 99% have this problem when they give up smoking. You body is going through change be kind to it, be patience. Easyer said than done??? but have you ever thought what you think is perfect may not be, the 5 kilos will go in summer as did the fags, keep up the good work.
just about everyone....that-s why so many are reluctant to quit. good for you to keep up the ex. like that. a lot of people who are not big eaters are nibblers - underestimate their caloric intake vastly (like by 1/2).

i suggest keeping a journal, also buying a kitchen scale - diet calorie conversion book, just so you have a really good idea of how many cal you are putting in your body each day, and try to decrease it very slowly (like by 100/day). good luck.
Quitting smoking will cause weight gain. Per my doctor because of metabolic changes. You need to keep exercising and keeping the weight under control. It will level off.
Just about everyone has had this problem. It usually is because food tastes better and you tend to eat more, also are you chewing gum or sucking on mints or other candies? Just be aware of what you are eating, when and how much and you should be alright.
Since you are middle aged, you must really-really-really work hard to get the weight off.
Congrats for quitting smoking.
Good Luck
WHEN U ACTUALLY STOP SMOKING AND NOT SAYING THAT U DID LOSE WEIGHT!!! Its not gonna help ur self esteem
I quit almost 3 years ago because the price was getting too high for me. My weight jumped from 210 lb. to 250. This raised my blood pressure and aggravated my sleep apnea. Quitting smoking made me more unhealthy than I was before. The weight was very slow to go down until this year. I gave up all sweets early this year, yes including ice cream and chocolate. My weight dropped to 225 and stayed there until this summer. I began eating more salads and ate smaller portions of everything else. Yesterday I weighed 210 lb. Woo Hoo. I finally got back to my pre-quitting weight. I-m going to keep at it until I get well under 200. I have had a few set backs especially with two family weddings this summer, but I-m finally determined to get in better shape. Keep at it, you-ll get there eventually.
i don-t smoke. try seeing a dietician and trainer.
Nicotine is an appetite suppressant. So you are probably taking in more calories now than you did when you smoked. The weight won-t just go away by itself, but you can do something about it. Either be more careful about your food choices, or do more exercise. Since it sounds like you already exercise a good amount, I suggest reconsidering your diet. Try to cut down on sugar, saturated fat and trans fat. Make sure you eat enough fiber and have some lean protein with every meal. If you keep up with exercise and make a few diet changes, I-m sure you-ll drop the weight over time.
I quit smoking over a yr ago. I gained @ 20 lbs. Mine is coming off very slow. Try doing some different exercises. Sometimes the body get use to the exercise you are doing and stops changing. Good Luck.
chew gum this also an exercise as well and a good one for you also since you have stop smoking.
you hit a plateau you need to exercise a little harder/ longer
Congrat-s on quiting that-s something I really need to do! Don-t know when the weight will go just wanted to wish ya luck!

Im 13 and have been smoking for about a year, i just quit and i am now straightedge, what do you think? -

im 13 and just quit smoking and have now gone straightedge, i just want some peoples opinions on my transformation :) btw for people who dont know, straightedge is where you dont smoke, drink or do drugs or have casual sex.
yeah...thats good...im honored to meet a person like u....not evreyone can do what you did...you realized you were in a problem and you fought against it
Smoking is bad for you, what could possibly be wrong about giving it up? Congratulations. And drinking causes even more brain damage in teenagers than it does in adults -- I-m not going to argue against the occasional beer but any kid who drinks heavily is going to pay the price by being dumber for the rest of his life and perhaps by ending up an alcoholic. Sex, too, carries a risk with it, of pregnancy or venereal disease.

I wouldn-t be too uptight about these things, when I see a college freshman saying he never does any of them I tell him to get a life, but I think that postponing them for a few years and then when you-re older engaging in them moderately and with care is an excellent idea.

Good for you. I started smoking at 13 and now I-m 26 and can-t hardly jog (and no I-m not super obese.) Anyways straightedge can be good but it also could be a gang. I saw a documentary about it on TLC or something. Some straightedge kill people, and some just rock out and stay clean. Anyways don-t kill anyone because then you-ll go to jail (a fate worse than smoking.)
hey sweetie,
you did the right thing quiting! and don-t listen to those people who are judging you. their have been alot of underage smokers who die a very early age and its good to hear that you have your life under control.
keep it up! it can be hard at first trying to give up but if you keep chewing chewy it can help!
good luck! =)

actually straightedge is a gang....they-re actually really violent but you are right when you say they dont drink or do drugs or anything. i think you have mislabeled yourself. anyways, it was a really good decision on your part!!! good job :)
It-s quite a drastic change but congrats on quitting. The majority of my friends who have gone edge didn-t last very long. Not saying this will be the case with you but at 13 things like smoking etc shouldn-t even be a problem yet
Congrats on making the right choice. It will be hard, but you will be glad you quit. I-ve never smoked but I know people who do and it is very easy to relapse, but don-t!
What do I think? I think it was a stupid idea to break the law to smoke in the first place. At least wait till you-re 18, jeez.
Well....I-d say that you-re what a 13 year old is supposed to be like! Young and Innocent.

Don-t rush life....you have the right idea.
Great job you realize smoking was silly at a young age. Some people are still too stupid to realize even at a senior age
what the ****, who would smoke let alone when your 13
great job for quitting but seriously...ew
good your too young to start all that anyway. and some of those things you shouldn-t do at all.
Good for you.
talk to me when you have done it for 6 months im not holding my breath how many 13yr olds have casual sex??
good job. keep it up
Im 13 and have been smoking for about a year, i just quit and i am now straightedge, what do you think? -

Once you quit smoking, how long does it take before you dont crave cigarettes anymore? -

Once you quit smoking, how long does it take before you dont crave cigarettes anymore? -

Everyone is different. Nicotine is one of the main factors involved in tobacco smoking addiction. Nicotine begins to leave the body after about two hours. People like you, and people like me realize that it-s not all about the nicotine. Other factors include stress levels, presence of other smokers, things that trigger a -smoke break-, etc. I have friends who smoked for years, then quit without any cravings whatsoever. It really depends on you. If you are quitting, get a support group, even if it is one person. And realize that once you have stopped smoking, you really are a non-smoker. So, start doing non-smoker things in place of the smoking. Take some deep, gentle breaths for instance. We non-smokers do that. I hope this helps.
your body produces nicotine. it stops doing that when you smoke because you get the nicotine from the cigs. After about three days of not smoking, your body will start to make its own nicotine again. That is when you may crave the most and get the most irritable.
According to the government and some former smokers, never. A nicotine addiction is for life; it never completely goes away. For that reason, nicotine is considered the most addictive substance in the world.
After about a week you don-t crave cigarettes but the hand to the mouth habit is still there you need to keep busy chew gum and keep your hand busy doing different things to you break the habit.
Smoking addiction varies from one person to another and it can be drastic. With some no problem at all. With me it took 3 years before I finally got turned off to cigarettes and the secondary smoke.
FOREVER.

Really. Nicotine is more addictive than heroin.
The craving will always be in the back of your mind. The first time I quit was for 14 years.

What is the best way to quit smoking cigarettes ? -

Go to jail.
Can-t smoke in jail.
-rj
I heard an expert on the radio talking about quitting smoking, and his suggestion was to quit cold turkey, believe it or not. He said to not even bother weening yourself, because that is a means by which you can justify -just one more-, because if you allow for one... then why not two?
Other suggestions I heard were:
- Keep a -jar of shame- with you at all times and wear it around your neck for people to see. When you have a cigarette, put your cigarette butt in the jar.
- Throw away all of your smoking paraphernalia (ashtrays, lighters, etc.).
- Clean out your car / smoking area and make it smell nice - clean.
I quit 5 yrs ago, I had pneumonia and it was painful to smoke, so I bought a pipe and tobacco, whenever the urge struck I lit up the pipe but, didn-t inhale then progressed to cigars but still didn-t inhale, whenever you have the anxiety to smoke light up a stogie you will fullfill your urge and habit by lighting something and puffing but don-t follow through with the inhalation. It worked for me, but I never did like the taste of cigars or could stand inhaling them.

I smoked for 27 yrs. and smoked about 2.5 packs per day when I quit, if you try my method don-t even touch a cigarette you wont be able to put them down and you will not quit!

Good luck!
Cold turkey.
Or, if you can-t do that, whenever you crave nicotine, have a piece of hard candy or gum.
Then, you-ll be replacing the craving with a craving for candy, which is much easier to wean yourself off of.
The best way to quit smoking is the one that works for you. For some people that-s cold turkey, for others it-s the patch, gum or lozenges, for others it-s Zyban or Wellbutrin and for still others it-s Chanitx.

Check out Quit Assist,

It has information about all these methods and more.

Good luck to you!!!
quit buying and/or bumming them!
cold turkey was the best for me. You just have to decide you arent a smoker anymore. Believe me, you will be SO GLAD that you quit. It takes a good month or so before the monkey leaves you alone, but he will eventualy leave for good. I started buying sunflower seeds, instead of ciggarettes, so I still had the hand/mouth thing, and every time I wanted one, I just had the seeds instead. It helped me a lot.
Personaly, I think more people are succesful quitting cold turkey, than by using a patch or gum. My freind had quit for 3 months on the patch, then stopped using them, and started smoking again. He lies to himself and says He ENJOYS smoking too much to quit. What is enjoyable about smoking?, IT SUCKS and makes a person feel like crap! Just Quit! you will be glad you did. Its really not fashionable any more and everybody knows how terrible it is for you.
that is a personal question.

but, i suggest cold turkey.
don-t fool your self just quit and stop worrying about it.
you have plenty of self control

worked for me. but i only quit after 2 years of heavy smoking.
so i can-t say if the equation is that much diffrent if you been smoking for a longer period of time.
you sure as hell can smoke in jail!! That-s what we gamble with...

best way to quit is to place a cigarette burn on your arm to keep track of your failures.
I quit cold turkey. Some of my friends have used the patches or nicorette. I only know one person who used zyban. Do a little research to figure out which method suits you best. You can always talk it over with your doctor. Be warned, you have to have a lot of willpower and be completely into quitting, or it isn-t going to last.
When I quit smoking,after trying numerous times and failing;
I quit cold turkey.
Began a walking routine 3 to 4 times a week.
I walked an hour[ 3 miles]
I also had obtained some motivational tapes [CD-s} to help with the cravings.
I used the tape in the car,too on my drive to and from work.
I surrounded myself with people who supported me and knew the struggle I was going through.
After 3 weeks the craving had lessened considerably.
Good luck.
And remember a smoker will quit an average of 4 to 6 times before being successful.

Perhaps a search for -quit smoking naturally- might be useful.
I used the Patch when I quit and it really took the edge of.
Some tips for you:
1. Sip water from a water bottle whenever you have a craving.
2. Remember that a craving only lasts up to 2 minutes... you can get through that.
3. Keep little zip lock bags ready and with you with cut up vegtables/fruit to snack on so that you dont gain weight. Smoking decreases your appetite so when you quit, it will go up.
4. Try the patch or gum. You dont need to suffer when you quit.

Lastly I-m going to pass along a site that I used when I quit. Take the time to check it out. It has tips, advice, forums, support... all free. I logged in daily and when I was having a rough moment. It saved me big time.

Why do you get ulcers in your mouth after you quit smoking? -

Often times when you quit ingesting poisonous substances, for a time afterwords, your body forces these poisons out. creating sores, boils, and the like. it may take a while, but drink lots of water to help, and maybe consider a toxin flush. eventualy, it will subside. Congrats!
No, that does not sound normal. You should see a DR.

Have any of you been hypnotized to quit smoking?Did it work? -

As a Certified Hypnotherapist, I say yes it does. Not only have I helped many people rid themselves of this nasty habit, I have done it myself! It is now over 4 years since I have touched (literally) a cigarette. Matt Damon used to smoke 2 packs a day for 10 years and he quit after seeing a hypnotist in LA - he even told Jay Leno on the Tonight Show (look it up - it-s true). If one truly wants to stop smoking, then hypnosis can make that become a reality - you make it a reality. If you need any further direction, please let me know!
My cousin had that done and he didn-t smoke for quite a long time. But then he started again ^.^

cold water and cold turkey don-t work for me.
Uhmm ... the very best way is to really, really, want to quit smoking. I tried (7x) over a 10 yr. period and realized,
the reason why, each time didn-t work, was because
I wasn-t totally convinced that I wanted to quit or that
I could see myself as a Non-smoker. I tried Hypnotherapy,
(very costly) and only lasted 6 months smoke-free. I tried
the Life Sign (2x) and each time, eventually, went back to
smoking. I also tried cutting down, but eventually started
smoking more than I originally did because I was getting
stressed out over having less nicotine in my system. I tried the patch, didn-t work, however, it has worked for other
people, quite well. Then, I also tried cold turkey and thought I
might cause -bodily harm- to people, so my husband said I
should just keep smoking. Then ... when I thought I was a
-goner- and would never be able to do it ... one cold, rainy
day in March, after 10:00 p.m. while my hubby and the kids
were sound asleep on the couch in the livingroom ... I found
myself out of cigarettes ... it was pretty tense, and I had to
decide, do I walk to the depanneur in the cold and rain or do I
tough it out till tomorrow morning and start the Nicorette
gums (I had bought 2 weeks before) and still hadn-t had the
guts to try. I went to bed early, that night, and when I woke up
I tried the Nicorette-s ... I thought I was going to puke! They
were horrible, back then, and I didn-t chew them the right
way! Very important to follow the instructions and do it the
right way!! Well, at first I didn-t feel anything different and still was dying to have a smoke but as the days and weeks wore
on ... it did seem to get easier to handle and I thought this just
might work! I ended up buying and chewing on the gums for
about 18 months. You are not supposed to chew them for
that long, but you know what? the Pharmacist told me that
chewing the gum was better for my health and the health of
my kids than smoking cigarettes. He was right. It has now
been almost 10 yrs. and I can say I do feel better, I do have
less severe colds, (when I get one). I can breathe better than I
could in years and my hubby loves kissing me, much more,
-smoke-free- and the kids like it too! It-s very difficult, in the beginning, like all new things are, don-t kid yourself. But if you
are really ready to make the change for yourself and your
health and for your loved ones, then GO FOR IT! you have nothing to LOSE ... AND EVERYTHING TO GAIN!

Some things to remember: - if you are a coffee or tea
person ... you may need to find another hot (non-caffeinated)
beverage to drink for a while, because the caffeine will give
you the urge to have a cigarette (temporarily). Drink lots of
orange juice, in the beginning, and take lots of Vitamin C. It
seems to help with the urges and the withdrawal symptoms.
Also, if you like to drink alcohol or go out drinking with your
friends it may be difficult to fight the urge to have a smoke.
So, just for a couple of weeks, you need to not consume any
alcohol. And ... of course, the other hardest thing will be those
cigarettes that you used to have at certain times of day, or
with certain functions that you do everyday. So, you need to
occupy your fingers with something else, to take your mind
off the urge, until it passes and then you will be fine, again,
and as time goes by, you will notice that each urge will
become further and further apart, until the urges will,
eventually, go away completely.
GOOD LUCK! BELIEVE IN YOURSELF ... YOU CAN DO IT!
Try chickweed tea. It aids in supressing the craving.
I think ,the best way to quit smoking is that u want to quit it.
What I did was take it down, little by little. Cold turkey didn-t work for me either. So, eventually I was having only 2 or 3 per day. I maintained there for the longest time. After that, the only next possible step was to stop, so one day, I finished a pack, threw it away, and said -never again.- I try not to hang out with people who smoke. I live in a city wish a public smoking ban, so it makes it easy too. Every now and then I-ll get so tempted, but I tell myself that all that hard work would have been for nothing, and that all this time away from cigarettes would be a massive failure. It works for me. I also keep myself distracted when the urges come along. Its way better now. It does get easier.
You can find stacks of recommended strategies and advice in a search for -quit smoking- in the Search for questions slot.

If you ever get to the desperation stage where everything you tried failed then as a last resort you could join a Quit Smoking Clinic and hopefully that will work.
make a decision no more smoking or no more(something else you like, maybe sex or something). if you force yourself to make that decision and stick to it. make sure the choice is something that you love to do or love much more than smoking itself. if there is nothing better than smoking, in your opinion, then i suggest exploring life a little more, learning new hobbies and stuff, and once you find one you like better than smokeing then you will be able to quit that way. if you dont like this technique, you can always look up online what whoopie goldburg is doing to quit smoking, she is pretty smart, and i believe she has some good websites/links to help.

Is it true that if you quit smoking before your 20 the body will heal itself? -

Is it true that if you quit smoking before your 20 the body will heal itself? -

Before 20 you are still growing and this is the worse time to be smoking because the lungs can grow deformed. Believe me, there are people in their 30-s who started smoking young and have irreversible lung disease.

No, once cilia have been damaged they do not repair themselves. It takes approximately, some say, 2 years for every one year you smoked to clear passageways; however, tar that line your lungs (which create emphysema in many) cannot be reversed. If you take an X-Ray of a teen smoker (say from the ages of 12-18 years of and who smoke 8-12 cigarettes daily), when they are 30, brown specs of damage often shows up. This is compounded for those who smoke Marijuana where many mis-believe that when they spit up a brown substance that they are -cleaning- their lungs, when in fact it is the excess tar that has no place to go that is being emitted back out (goes either to the stomach, lines the walls of the lungs and esophagus, or is is spat out). In short, the body does not -heal- itself, however, once a person quits smoking, they are able to breath better as build-up works its way out and the lung develop strength - but the -damage- cannot be reversed.
im pretty sure that is 100% false...i agree with the first answer...when your younger 20 your body is still developing...smoking harms your entire body...and if your organs are still developing its probably worse...yes, if you quit before 20 it definately wont harm you as much as it would have if u didnt quit till your much older like 60...but still...

u shouldnt smoke in the first place...each cigarette shortens ur life by 5 minutes.

hai brother i am subash 1 st belive your self and think the hazards when ever ur mind ask for smoaking try yo use buble gums it is a good way my father had stop smoking by this way
Look as you are chain smoker, it will be little bit difficult to quit smoking.......but nothing is impossible for the person who has strong WILL, has self confidence that he can do it.............
Don-t directly stop smoking, but in fact you should decrease the amount of smoking....like now you are a chain smoker, try to smoke 2 to 3 cigarettes per day and then slowly reduce it.........This will help you
a lot..afterwards go reducing it and then finally it will be now easy to quit smoking......

Hope 4 best.............Just do it........
I feel your pain man!! It really isn-t your fault. You have an addiction and you just can-t shake it. I was the same way dude. I used to always think if there was a healthier way to smoke i would never quit. The unhealthy part is the smoke with the tar, cyanide and the ammonia. i don-t mind the nicotine same way i don-t mind coca cola. I recently found that cigarette like that. i-m going to tell you about a smokeless cigarette that will blow your mind. well i-ll show the site where i get mine. they work really well and you don-t have to quit smoking. well check these out. i know you will like them and they are pretty cheap and you can smoke them anywhere. even on a plane
It-s good that you realized that you need to quit smoking.

I smoked for 9 years before quitting. And I am not thinking about smoking any more.

There are several ways you can go: patches, gum, medication, shot, electronic cigarettes, hypnosis, acupuncture etc.. You can also quit smoking cold turkey.

However, you don-t have to try everything before you find what suits you. I prefer the cold turkey route because that will cost you nothing.
Absolutely you can and the health benefits will be immediate. I suggest Chantix (Champix in some countries), it-s pretty close to a miracle drug.
I-ve tried just about every method there is out there and there is only one I can recommend - NLP! It eliminates the cravings.
Gum patches and all the other just did not cut it for me, not to mention cold turkey which was the hardest, I even tried the electric cig and it is just no match to the real thing.

Im going to quit smoking!? -

I am on the antidepressant Wellbutrin which also has the added bonus of helping people quit smoking. Its been about 2 weeks and its finally starting to kick in...I find the cigarettes are tasting funny and NASTY. Is this whats suppose to happen? Does anybody have any personal experience? I am so ready to quit. I cant wait until I can breathe again!! and not stink!!! Oh any tips on how to get the smoke smell out of clothes - hair etc? Any motivational tips are appreciated!!!!!
Congratulations! When I was on Wellbutrin smoking a cigarette was like sucking on air, I got nothing out of it. Getting the smell out is hard. We had to wash all of our window treatments, furniture, bed linens, carpet, anything that absorbs the smell. We also used lots of Febreeze. The most disgusting thing for me was when I cleaned the windows in my car and home and realized I had been inhaling that crap for so long. I do not have any motivational tips. Just take it one day at a time. I still crave cigarettes if I am having abad day or if I see someone else smoking on TV but I am happier every day that I choose not to smoke. I think it is funny now when I am offended by someone-s cigarette smoke, knowing that I used to offend others. Good luck, you should be proud of yourself!
Way to go! You-re on the road to a healthier lifestyle, kudos! I-ve heard from friends that are on Wellbutrin that they-ve had similar side effects (even though they didn-t want to quit). To get smoke smell out of your home and clothing, use Febreeze or the ALL freshener (it-s in the same aisle). They work really well. Good luck.

This question is for adults who were able to quit smoking...? -

I-ve tried so hard to quit and I just can-t. I want to but nothing I do seems to work. Has anything worked for you to help you to quit smoking? I-m in my 30-s and not a teen and smoked for about 15 years.
If you really want to quit smoking do what I did. Buy the eCigarette. It works great, you still get to smoke and there is no tar, tabbaco, or smell. I am telling you I bought it at a mall for $150, I found it for about $70 at http://www.giftgiftgifts.com/cat-ecigarette.cfm and there is a lot of information at http://www.gadgetworldus.com/eCigrettes.html Ceck it out.
I know what you mean about how hard it is. I had tried to quit and kept saying, last one, last one. But I couldnt over come the physical craving even tho I hated the smell and its so disgusting.

What happened to me is I got really, really sick. I didnt want a cig or crave it. Even if I made myself smoke it was disgusting. There was no craving at all I was so sick. I was throwing up and had a fever and couldn-t eat. I ended up going to the ER and having to be on bed rest a few days. And that-s how I quit. I guess you could say it was by accident but I-m glad it happened. It took getting that sick to be able to quit.

There are supposed to be meds that can help with quitting but I dont know if they work or not.
well... i always told my daughter never to smoke and to -just say no to drugs- and all that stuff and one day she convinced me to quit

How can i quit smoking? -

How can i quit smoking? -

i need help on quitting smoking and the withdrawal and the symptoms. I-ve been smoking for 18 years and i would like to quit
I smoked 20+ a day for over 16 years, and had many, many failed attempts at stopping - from a few days to over a year - until I read one of Allen Carr-s books. I can highly recommend them.

During the first few weeks I went for a walk every time I had the urge for a cigarette - a change of scenery alters your mind-state (worked well for me as I rarely smoked when I walked).

I also burnt off part of a Fiver and stuck the remains on my front door. People thought I was nuts, but each time I left home I was reminded of how much money I had -burnt- every day whilst smoking!

I had to stay away from smokey pubs for several weeks, but you won-t have that problem now! :-)

Good luck!
Use Allen Carrs Easway method to stop, it is EASY!!

Despite what the obvious -non-smokers- say, it-s not easy. It took me 3 attempts. BUT, saying that, each time was easier than the one before. Go to your local Pharmacy and ask for help, or visit your GP.
Try patches and the gum to start with, and when the habit of putting something in your mouth dies down, just use the patches. Like antibiotics... FINISH THE COURSE! I thought I was a non smoker after using full strength patches for about 3 weeks so I stopped using them, BIG mistake.
Only give up if YOU want to give up and when YOU want to. Don-t do it just because your husband/wife/partner or anyone else says so. It has to be you who makes the decision. Then, when you have made a date, stick to it, ask for help and remember you still need will power. Nicotine replacement is not a miracle cure. Oh, and one last thing...GOOD LUCK!
I know exactly how you feel. I managed to stop smoking back in September. I read the Allen Carr book and found that was just enough to keep things on the straight and narrow. I-d be lying if I said I have not fancied one since, but stick with it and this diminishes as the weeks pass.

Until this point I had smoked for 25 years and had various half hearted attempts. For me it was all about realising I was doing something positive for me....not anyone else. That ultimately meant that when faced with the little devil on my shoulder saying you can have one....no-one will know, I was able to dismiss this with the thought that I would be letting myself down. Plus with cigarettes being over £5.50 a pack for my old brand, the financial side of it soon added up to a fantastic reason to continue with the decision to not smoke.

Very best of luck
I found patches to be brilliant, I started out with the full strength ones, and after a week I started cutting the full strength ones in half and then eventually quarters. After about 4 weeks I had stopped with the patches altogether. I haven-t smoked in 3 months and feel a whole lot better for it.

The most important thing is that you have to really want to stop. I haven-t had a single sneaky urge to smoke since quitting. You have to think about how many years it-s going to take off your life, and how smoking is going to reduce your enjoyment of the rest of your life. I also started exercising 5 days a week, and instead of gaining weight after stopping smoking, i have also lost over 12 kilos.
Firstly, congratulations to all the people who thought it-s intelligent to answer this in a negative way, ie don-t buy cigarettes or just don-t bother to quit. Well done, very helpful indeed!!

Unfortunately there is no hard and fast way to quit. All you can do is take any advice given and try.Having tried numerous times until finally suceeding over 6 years ago, first thing is that you need to be 100% sure you want to quit. This may sound silly but if there is doubt, you will focus on that small percentage during those tough times. Have a think about when those tough times will be. Work was a difficult one for me and therefore I still took the break outside with a colleague however took a coffee outside with me instead. You associate having a break away from your desk/work area with the cigarette and therefore by still having this break, I found this help me get through the day.

I didn-t try nicotine gums etc however know many that have and they do help.

Remember nicotine is a hunger surpressant and therefore you may find the need to snack in order to try to overcome the cravings. Be aware of this and find something healthy and low fat that you can eat at these times, rather than sweets/chocolate etc.

To be honest, I tried the book and it didn-t work but again, I know people who have and that is echoed on the thread here.

Just try and remember that everyone is different and you may need to try a few things until you find something that works for you. But if you are determined and remain positive, then you can succeed.

Good luck !!
I am a X smoker of up to 60 a day and i tried various ways to stop but to no avail then one day over 16 years ago i said to myself that-s it and quit that day and have not smoked or wanted one since BUT i still say i am trying to give up my opinion its a bit like been an alcoholic it will always be there but ??
I believe i am winning.
I have just started to quit smoking myself.
I have not smoked for about 2 weeks now.
It is hard and you may have a few attempts but try and stick with it, whenever you have the urge for a cig go for a walk, have a warm bath and drink plenty of juice. Try to keep yourself occupied so you dont think about it.
You will find you may get headaches and sore throats but this is natural and will go away within a few weeks.
Try searching on the web as there are many website with loads of information to help you give up.
Hope this helps and good luck
As a psychologist, I can tell you that there is only one way - do not tell anyonemyou are -stoping-, just -cut down-. See how long you can go without reaching for the fags..and each time try to -beat your record-.
I love it when people say -just stop!-.
How stupid!!! If it was so easy, do you think people who have been diagnosed with cancer would still smoke ?!

And i know the withdrawal symptoms only lasts a few days ( 4 or 5 days). But who can afford not to work for 4 or 5 days? No way i would go to work with these symptons, i would definitely get the sack as i would probably hurl abuse at every single of my workmates and would probably tell my boss to shove his job.. It does make me very agressive and last time i tried to go cold turkey, my flatmate (who hated me to smoke) actually bought me two packs of ciggies and urged me to have one. I was unberable.
Read The Easy Way to Quit Smoking by Alan Carr, if that doesnt work he also has The Only Way.
gave the book to my boyfriend told him he was free to have a **** in his hand every page of the book as long as he read it. he finnished it 4 weeks ago and not touched one since and tells me he doesnt want one or crave etc... this is cold turkey too - no patches or gum. seriously worth the read. have heard other success stories too. check it out on amazon can pick one up for under a fiver!
i quit in May and after a few christmas party slip ups am back on the wagon

the biggest realisation i had was that everytime i wanted a cigarette i told myself :

1. this is the drug, its a powerful drug and your mind will trick you into thinking that you need one.

2. i kept telling myself i am a non smoker, i dont smoke

mostly if you really want to give up you will soon learn after denying the drug and telling yourself you are a non smoker i became aware of all cravings and could dismiss them faster and faster.

it was an interesting experience and learning how powerful a drug it was only made me more commited to beat it

i also learnt that maybe one or two cigarettes was enough to make me moody and suffer withdrawals again for a week or so after.

i tried the supliments : and for the love of god unless you like putting piles of Cr@p into your mouth dont even think they will help you all you need is to realise is all it is, is an addictive drug and it is controlling you, beat it and realise that you are not in control of your own mind

after i quit i had a few lightheaded days and i started running to staive off the need to eat vast amounts i couldnt get very far because i smoked for about 18 years aswell but i got further and further each time and i realise now that i have done myself so much damage and whatever pleasure i got from smoking i now have to pay the healing price.

i actually find it easier to work, solve problems and concentrate just beat every craving with your own will power, i was ultimately and more importantly so incredibly proud of myself for beating the drug down purely on will power
Someone above has already said Alan Carr-s book. It-s called -The Easyway.-

I see this question so many times. Amongst the answers are always some saying read Alan Carr-s book, -The Easyway.-

I did and tried everything. Even the NHS. The few times I saw my doc because I was sick, he gave me 7 minute appointments. When I phoned and said I wanted to give up smoking, he made a 30 minute appointment. Then another 30 minute appointment with the nurse. They gave me prescription for all the nocotine replacement sh.t that I could possibly use. I just started again.

18 months ago, I read Alan Carr. He really makes you understand that it is not difficult to stop. And it wasn-t. I never smoked again, I never put on any weight, had no hunger pain problems, etc etc. Look at my avatar, am I fat? No.

Just read the book, And the good thing is there is no fear factor, because you keep smoking whilst reading the book. You get to the end, and over 80% of readers stop, and never smoke again.

hi i-ve tryed to quit a few times and i have finally managed it :) i surgest that you go see your doctor and ask for -Champix- they really work they don-t stop the cravings but you won-t want to smoke anymore. I have smoked for 17years and now i-ve finally quit.
Hypnotherapy - it really does work! 2 sessions and you will be clear for life - if you really want to stop. Check out my site - www.jaxhypnotherapy.co.uk Its a safe method and NO side effects except a great feeling of well-being and confidence.
hi I smoked for 10 years and have now given up for just over 2. Few things that made a big difference. Firstly are you still enjoying every cigarette you have or do some of them make you feel sick? Think of all the bad things about smoking (smelly clothes, being ruled by a stupid bit of tobacoo, expense, having to leave tables in restaurants, constantly thinking about your next cigarette etc), but make sure they are things you think bad - not someone else-s suggestion.

Next get yourself an inhalator. For the first few months I had one of these in my mouth constantly! It really works, if you take a puff or two the cravings subside and it feels a bit like smoking.

Thirdly think of somone you really love who wants you to give up. One of the things that got me through was the real look of disappoinment that I knew would be on my hubby-s face if he found out I had had a puff. I also got him to buy me incentives - firstly on a weekly basis, then on a monthly and now its every year!

Good luck!
I smoked from ages 19 - 37. I then attended an evening course Monday - Friday 2 hours each night which cost little and was run by members of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. That was 31 years ago and I have not smoked since and there was no effort made to encourage the participants to join this church. I understand that they still hold regular courses today and recommend them to you.
Have tried just about everything with varying degrees of success.

Nicotine Replacement
Patches - itchy, sometimes get a -dry one-.
Gum - Foul taste

Zyban - worked, but went back to the cigs after 5 months.

Started on Champix 2 weeks ago. Feel sick for about an hour after taking the tablet every morning. Makes every cig taste foul. Currently on 2 days without.

Sounds like Need to get the Alan Carr book to read as well.
Cold Turkey is the only way. You-ll climb the walls, but remember, what doesn-t kill you makes you stronger.

Knowing -exactly- what nicotine does to the brain when you smoke helps you to understand that smoking gives the brain an illusion of relief from stress etc. .Read Allen Carr or Neil Casey, i gave up over 5yrs ago after smoking for 30 yrs.. its soooo easy and the self esteem factor plays a big part in suceeding..
Good Luck..
PS.. after stopping, cravings only happen about 5 times a day and usually only last a few minutes (time them) but seem to last hours... its ALL in the head...Nicotine has left the body after a few days anyway..
Hey forget patches/gum or any other of that rubbish...There is an easy simple way...buy Allen Carrs book -The easy way to quit smoking-....Me and 5 of my closest friends have read the book and all have quit smoking for over a year now...I never think about smoking anymore and know i will never smoke again.. People who have read that book on here will all tell you the same thing..-its brilliant-....R.I.P Allen Carr
You are not alone..

I was smoking like mad before last year until all my
friends who had smoked longer all happened to suffer from some sort of cancer or illness.. which made me smoke less, right away。
In the past 6 months, I -ve only smoked 3 fags when I see friends smoke around me.. I think this is good enough. We are only human, don-t be too hard on yourself..

GET THIS BOOK.....

ALLEN CARR - EASYWAY TO QUIT SMOKING!!!!!!!!

IT WORKED FOR ME :o)
I smoked for 18 years until May last year then gave up. My advice - don-t tell anyone when you-re going to start, it only adds further pressure on you. Get some lozenges and (I know this sounds silly) use them. They do work! If like me you like a drink then temporarily change drinks to something you don-t associate with a cigarette. I had three weeks on red wine. Once you really decide to stop it-s not as bad as you think. Good luck!
If you take any advice on these pages take Warren C-s, first paragraph.

I tried for 12 years to quit in varying ways and always failed. I then picked up the Allen Carr books and quit instantley and not only did I quit, it was EASY!
Try Zyban. You-ll need a doctors prescription.

It usually works pretty well. But may have really bad side effects.

It-s going to be very hard for you. But Zyban in the end was the only thing that worked for me.

If you-re a heavy smoker, and you-ve never been able to quit, it may do the trick for you.

Remember most people who tell you, just to use your -will power- are just trying to wind you up. The depth of an addiction for a long term heavy smoker is pretty awful to break.
I used the Alan Carr book - it helped me!
i smoked about 10 a day for 15 years!
I personally found the way to go was a visit to the stop smoking scheme set up in the local Libra. They helped with free aids IE patches tablets inhalers etc. and the support was fantastic. It want all plain sailing. I had to call on a lot of will power to supplement the aids but it was worth it in the end and four years down the line I-m still a smoker who dossent smoke.I was smoking 30 *a day for nearly 36 years.
Hey, I agree with the others - Alan Carrs easy way to stop smoking did it for me. Nicotine replacement didn-t help me, but I stopped using the book.
I made myself more active when I stopped. I joined some fitness classes, went swimming and walking. The feel-good hormones you get after exercise replaced my nicotine buzz. I feel much healthier and stronger.
Stick with it - I think after you-ve got through a few weeks - you realise you don-t need to smoke again.
Good luck!
Go to your local chemist you get lots of support and patches and gum, it worked for me and it-s free !! Good luck
I managed to give up completely 5 months ago now after smoking for 19 years. I found it relatively easy without the need for patches or gum etc. I would only say that you have to give up when the time is right for you, peer pressure may make you give up for a small amount of time, but youll probably go back to it as I know others have done this. I never said I would give up for New Year or any other time, I just stopped one day and have never had one since. Whenever I think about a cigarette (which isnt often) I just think of the smell and horrible breath and taste it gives you after and that is enough for me. Good luck to all those who are trying to stop....
How can i quit smoking? -
