Is it true that if you quit smoking before your 20 the body will heal itself? -

Before 20 you are still growing and this is the worse time to be smoking because the lungs can grow deformed. Believe me, there are people in their 30-s who started smoking young and have irreversible lung disease.

No, once cilia have been damaged they do not repair themselves. It takes approximately, some say, 2 years for every one year you smoked to clear passageways; however, tar that line your lungs (which create emphysema in many) cannot be reversed. If you take an X-Ray of a teen smoker (say from the ages of 12-18 years of and who smoke 8-12 cigarettes daily), when they are 30, brown specs of damage often shows up. This is compounded for those who smoke Marijuana where many mis-believe that when they spit up a brown substance that they are -cleaning- their lungs, when in fact it is the excess tar that has no place to go that is being emitted back out (goes either to the stomach, lines the walls of the lungs and esophagus, or is is spat out). In short, the body does not -heal- itself, however, once a person quits smoking, they are able to breath better as build-up works its way out and the lung develop strength - but the -damage- cannot be reversed.
im pretty sure that is 100% false...i agree with the first answer...when your younger 20 your body is still developing...smoking harms your entire body...and if your organs are still developing its probably worse...yes, if you quit before 20 it definately wont harm you as much as it would have if u didnt quit till your much older like 60...but still...

u shouldnt smoke in the first place...each cigarette shortens ur life by 5 minutes.
