What is the best way to quit smoking? -

Is cold turkey really the most effective way or does nicotine replacements help?
Im guessing your a man so my way probably wouldnt be of help to you, i tried every way i could to quite but nothing worked till the day i fell pregnant, i threw away my smokes and never looked back...i guess the mother instinct kicked in and i knew i had to protect that baby from the problems that can come from smoking when pregnant, i know i should have quit before hand but it wasnt a planned pregnancy, but hey it worked and here i am a year and a half later, smoke free, and never going back.
Why would you want to do that?
You-re going to die of something anyway?
Enjoy life, have another cig!
I just read an article on today-s MSN page about quitting and LOTS of people left feedback of how they did it... I think there were 59 pages of 6+ answers per page. Most everyone says that you really have to want to quit, first and foremost. A lot of other people are reporting early success with the Chantix medication that Pfizer just came out with this past summer. (I just recently had my doctor write me a script for it and I-m excited now that I-ve read the success stories about it.) Just always remember the difficulty you experienced during the first couple of days after quitting, if you think about picking them up again. I know that you know all of the benefits of quitting, but keep a list of the specific reasons why YOU want to quit... make a copy of it and hang it in your office/cubicle... keep a copy in your wallet - - then really look at it, over and over again. Those reasons you-ve written were while you were sane and rational - not when you were having an emotion-filled withdraw attack. Remember that very fact as well. Don-t worry about gaining 10 or 20 lbs. Once you-re able to breathe, you-ll be able to run those lbs off. Good luck to you. Wish me luck too. :O)
To be honest , I have quit cold turkey without withdrawls, I feel it is mind over matter, I can take them or leave, but I would suggest if you can-t quit on your own, see a Dr. for Zyban, Wellbutrin to help....
Hi,

Great post! Quitting smoking was the hardest thing I-ve ever done in my life, and I thought I wasn-t addicted!

Here-s what I tried before finding success: hypnosis, those fake cigaretts, the nicotine patch, and group therapy....none worked.

I finally tried this HERBAL patch I bought 6 months ago on the net. They claim a 97% success rate. Well, it worked! They had a sweet deal which was a free 10 day trial for only $3.95 including shipping (it-s regularly $53 for 10 days)!!

I don-t know if they still have that deal, but it-s worth a try.

Good Luck
Depends on the individual. Some people can quit -cold Turkey-. Most will need a little help with Nicotine patches or gum. Gum is more effective, in my opinion, because you can take a piece whenever you get the urge.

There is a new drug on market, called Chantix, that kills the urge to smoke. It is expensive but cheaper than smoking in the long run.
Good luck
I JUST QUIT AFTER 34 YEARS, A FRIEND TOLD ME THAT YOUR CRAVINGS FOR A CIGARETTE ONLY LASTS ABOUT 1 MINUTE TO 11/2 MINUTES, EACH TIME I GOT THE CRAVING I WOULD WATCH THE CLOCK AND DARN IF SHE WASN-T RIGHT, THE CRAVING WENT AWAY IN ABOUT A MINUTE, I TRIED ALL THE CIGARETTE STUFF, SPENT ALOT OF MONEY AND IT DIDN-T WORK, TRY MY WAY AND SEE IF IT WORKS, IT TOOK ME 2 DAYS, I WOULD ALSO POP A MINT TO, IT HELPED, JUST REMEMBER EACH TIME YOU WANT ONE LOOK AT THE CLOCK AND COUNT YOU WILL BE AMAZED GOOD LUCK TO YOU
YOU MUST WANT TO QUIT.
THE BEST WAY IS COLD TURKEY .
THATS THE WAY I DID IT .
AFTER ABOUT THREE WEEK YOU HAVE IT MADE
depends on your will power, i did the cold turkey thing, I-m now in my 4 year of quitting. Good Luck

Cold turkey is the best because your body is getting no pacifiers like the substance you are trying to kick the habit of. Nicotine replacements feed you small amounts of nicotine so you don-t crave but you still have it in your body.. after 2 or 3 weeks cold turkey, sometimes less you should have no cravings for nicotine and if you think you do it-s just the habit of lighting up that you are missing.
Keep busy, excercise more if you think it will keep your mind off it, better than eating.
I found SmokeAway worked better than ANYTHING. I didn-t use nicotine replacements so it was still very much like going -cold turkey- but the herbs and vitamins that SmokeAway uses to help flush the nicotine from your body really made the difference for me. In the past when I-d tried to quit I would get super-irritable, extremely groggy and tired and would jones to the point of wanting to rip my hair out. When I started SmokeAway I was energetic, had very little moodiness didn-t feel like I was -jonesing- at all. Most of what I fought was mental and that made the physical battle a whole lot easier.
The right answer to that? Is something call will power. If you really want to quit you must really want to quit, other wise it will never happen. I know because I-m a smoker and I like to smoke ven though I want to quit I can-t cuase I enjoy smoking but, I do have lots of will power and when I ger ready to quit I will do it. So WILL POWER is the way to go.
I wouldnt say it-s the most effective way but it works for some ppl

ideally you should reduce your nicotine addiction to suffer from less withdrawal symptoms but different methods work for different ppl.

there-s that pill, bupropion that helps you , wellbutrin not zyban, same drug but zyban more expensive

and / or you can use nicotine patches or gum

or you could try cold turkey

could try distracting your mouth with gum

or picking up another activity in your free time

there-s also hypnosis but who knows how effective that is

just be aware that the average smoker quits on his/her 7th try

so if you are a smoker trying to quit, DONT BE DISCOURAGED

have a good night
if you ween yourself of it you can quit. cold turkey is also effective but at the same time there are the possibilities that you can get weak and start smoking again.

How tdo I tell my mom to quit smoking...? -

im 14 years old and my mom smokes... alot... well idk if 12 cigs in 2 hrs. is alot but i think it is way to much. I myself arn-t a very big fan of second hand smoke.. and neither are my friends. do you have any ideas on how to tell her how to quit?
Just be upfront and tell her you don-t want her and yourself to suffer from cigarettes. Just think what she could do with all that money she spends on cigarettes. Be as honest as you can say what you-re thinking and don-t hold back be brutal if you have to no matter how nice of a lady your mother may be. If she still refuses not to smoke around you and you-re that serious about her not smoking you can forcefully stop her by throwing away her cigarettes, breaking her lighters, stealing her matches, stealing her cigarettes. If it-s really going to tear you apart and you just can-t get her off them around you second-hand smoking around children is a form of child abuse.
well ur 14 so they should have at least given you some type of smoke flyer at school so you could try leaving that around the house. you could change all the cpu-s homepages in yur house to a non smoking site. try coughing escpecially after yur moms smokes and try to get out of the huse more to reduce the intake of secondhand smoke because it could have the same effect of smoking like lung cancer. Try talking to your father about it if he doesn-t smoke.

How can i help someone i care about and thats in my family quit smoking? -

my dad smokes and he has since i was about 5.
is there anything i can do that will help motivate him?
he says he-s doing better - down to about one or less than one a day

but we both know that one or less than one is too much.

help!!
With smokers, the standard advice is that they -hafta gotta wanna- quit. You have registered your concern, the rest is up to him.
I smoked for about 9 years starting when I was 10 and here-s how I quit. I found another tobacco product called snus (not snuff, it-s swedish and they just started selling it in America). This may seem like trading one negative for another but hear me out. Snus does not require spitting as it is treated differently from American snuff and thus has almost no harmful chemicals in it. They even took the cancer warning off of it in Sweden because the risk is so low. Plus, it tastes and smells delicious! Like high quality tea. It seems to me to be easier to quit as well as I went from 2 packs a day to 1 snus pouch every couple of days. Not trying to convince anyone to use snus but it really is the far lesser of 2 evils.
My brother smokes too. He-s 18 now and he-s been smoking from the time he was 16. He-s completely hooked! I hate watching him spend his time like that :( Cigarettes are terrible, and I think just like my brother, your dad may want to quit.. but can-t. Eventually, hopefully I think they-ll give in! Tell your dad all the bad things about cigarettes. That each one shortens your life by about 5 minutes! Maybe make him feel pressured into doing so, which is a good thing! Shows you really care about his health. Good luck!
If he-s down to 1 a day, just leave it at that. If you continue to bug him, you could start him back up to 5, maybe 10 a day. Stress is bad, and you don-t want to stress him over 1 cigarette.
keep telling him to stop. do some research about what smoking do to your body and show it to your dad. that will do it
yea my mom smokes to you need to get ur dad to watch the smoking commercials tell them is this what u want maybe encourage them to get accupuncture

I want to quit Smoking. Can some body help me? -

I want to quit smoking. I am taking 10-15 cigarettes per day. I have tried to quit many times but failed. Can somebody help me so that I can quit smoking successfully.
this may sound stupid, but it worked for my friend,
she told people around her, her bf and bestie, to stare her down if she went for a smoke, remind her of all the fatal diseases you get from it, and to just generally be a distraction.
if she had any tempations, shed get them on the fone and talk it out.

she also really liked the nicorette gums

goodluck!!!
Hi,

I use to smoke around 20-25 per day for 4 years.. i now smoke NONE, i quit 3months ago and its probably the best desision i have ever made.
Go on the nhs website, theres alot of info on smoking there, go to a smoking club or something. You cant just quit smoking straight away.. you need to cut down first like taking 1 cigarette away a day untill you are down to none.. anythin like this will help.
The way i quit was by going on google and searching for all the effects of smoking.. and the picures of what smoking caused, it really discusted me! i wrote down WHY i wanted to quit and everytime i feel i needed a cigarette i would read my reasons why i shouldnt have one like having better health, more money and so on. Also the nicorette chewing gums helped me alot.
- Go see your GP, they will help you with quiting.
- write down all the reason why you want to quit
- get support from your family
- go to a smoking club
- try not to be around people that smoke
If you really put your mind to it you WILL quit just have faith in yourself. :) x
I used welbutrin to help me which is the drug in xyban it worked great I did have urges but they were minimal and easily forgotten and the best thing was you smoke until the drug gets into your system which is about 10 to 15 days and when it does it makes cigs taste terrible which helps also Have a plan you can also use patches while on this drug to taper off nicotine keep your hands busy and enjoy your new smoke free life and be proud of yourself
Champix is the latest in smoking cessation. And hypnosis suits some people as does acupunture for some folk. You should use at least 2 of these methods together.

I have smoked for 14 years and its not helping me but hurting me for the worse
Visit a -quit smoking- clinic if such places exist.
Make up your mind to quit and do it. No one can do it for you. You will be improving your health by stopping that dirty stinky habit. How-d I do?
you can try essential oils that are supposed to help you quit smoking. i would try it before spending a lot of money on the patch. the free recipe is towards the bottom of the page.
Cold turkey is the only way. If you try and step down your amounts, you will have a bad day or moment and say -what the hell!-
You have to not only want to quit but almost hate the habit with a passion.
I did it cold turkey myself been off of it for 5 years.
This may sound crazy but you did not take any pills are wear any patches to start smoking so the best way to quit is the same way you started just quit. Go cold turkey!
Acupuncture

Kim at:

I successfully used the Nicoderm CQ method. I smoked 2 1/2 pax for years. I-ve now been smoke free since 1998. They are very good at cutting the cravings while weaning your body off the nicotene.
cold turkey. Do it at a time when you are not likely to have a lot of stresses from work, moving house, etc.
Forget the -I don-t want to smoke- and replace it with a -I want to be healthy- attitude. This will cause you to want to make lifestyle changes in all areas of your life.

Your addiction is psychological and physiological. Guilt seems to work in a circular fashion- drawing you back to the activities you want to avoid and each time you try and -fail- you push yourself even further into the smoking corner, making it harder to give up!

Fill your life with positive activities such as running, and swimming. As you cut down on your smoking you-ll actually FEEL the physical health benefits of giving up smoking.
commit cherry lozenges read package instructions!
cold turkey, smoked for 12 years, quit just like that. just sucked getting drunk makes you want a cig bad.
hmm..14 years already?? well..not sure if you could stop smoking..better try and reduced it and change to lights..that-ll do..
Just stop buying the damn things!
There are many ways to quit but the best way is to just quit. In 3 days all the nicotine will be out of your body but you will still struggle with the addiction of the hand-to-mouth habit. Don-t replace it with food. What I did was take a drinking straw (just a plain white one the same size as the McDonald-s one), cut it the length of a cigarette, stuffed it with a cotton ball and left it in a clean ashtray by the phone. One was in my car, on my deck, and in my purse. Whenever you really crave one, you simply -smoke- it. I used this crutch for about 2 months and then gradually tapered off. Remember you are like an alcoholic with cigarettes, you can-t even have just one. You will find that the longer you go without them, the less you will miss them. You might also change your habits...don-t go to a bar, don-t play cards with friends, don-t go on break with smoking friends, etc. You need to break the habit as well as the addiction. Good luck. It works.
Get your doctor to prescribe Chantix. It is like the magic pill. I have been taking it for three months now. I have tried to quit in the past with other methods only to fail. Chantix takes away almost all of your withdrawal symptoms. The only withdrawal symptom that you really have to deal with is your mind and that even diminishes easier than you think it will, due to the fact that your body is not going through nicotine withdrawls your mind doesn-t keep saying -smoke, smoke, smoke, smoke-. Really, try it you will be surprised. The first week you take it you are to continue to smoke. Even during that first week when you are only taking half the dosage your urge to smoke drastically decreases. Good Luck

How come since Ive quit smoking...smoking is haunting me? -

Since I quit smoking 3 days ago...

Today: On my way to work I was stuck in traffic and the person in front, next to and behind me were all smoking. Walking into work I had to pass through a cluster of smokers (who I-ve NEVER seen outside before). On my lunch break- I heard about 3 radio ads about quitting smoking. I get home and George from Seinfeld is pretending to smoke. I turn on Cash Cab and he-s asking a questions about a -smoking device-. On cops every criminal is SMOKING!!!!!

HELP!!!!!!!!!!
I quit 3 months ago cold turkey. Haven-t smoked since... It-s hard!! There-s so many temptations - I-m still fighting them. Be strong!! It-s worth it. I feel a whole lot better since I quit.
Cause you-re addicted
Something that is bad for you that you enjoyed during will always come back and back. Until you decide that nothing is going to stop you from making that right choice of not smoking....u will think about it all the time. Watching others smoke shouldn-t bother u, if u decided not to do it. Watching someone kill another on T.V. would not make u want to do it, not unless your just as sick as the person doing the killing.
Hang in there! You only notice those things, because you are going through a withdraw. Do something to take your mind off of it. Eat some sunflower seeds. That keeps your hands busy. Are you using something to help? Those Patches? Or ask your Dr. for something, but whatever you do, don-t give up! You have gone this far without a cigarette, you can now go forever without one. It-s a extremely hard thing to do, Quitting Smoking. Probably the hardest thing you will ever do. It-s the worst kind of addiction, and the withdraw from nicotine can be extreme, but remember why you are doing it, the kids. They love you and want you to live a long time. Smoking is Nasty, drawing that poisonous smoke into your lungs which will close off all the little air sacks, robbing you of oxygen. Then you get lung cancer, and die a horrifying slow ago-nous death, right in front of your family, gasping for air that is no longer available to you. Plus it smells. Hang in there!
I think it-s because you-ve never really noticed it before. You weren-t worrying about smoking and craving one, so you just didn-t notice the ads or the tv personality-s etc. I feel like the same kind of thing happens to me every time I-m dealing with something.
That happened when I first quit smoking - everyone on TV was smoking! Tried the patch, gross gum and those commit things. None of that crap worked at all! I used the program from this site - it-s wroked pretty well as I-ve been smoke free for a couple of months now - and my will power sucks!

Hope this helps,

your brain is messing with you. stay strong. and don-t smoke.
it-s because of the nicotine....try willpower or other alternatives like chewing gum
after the third day, you are over the worst part of it....
Just hang in there, you-re just noticing it now because you-re craving it. Just make a promise to yourself that you won-t smoke today. Quiting smoking is one of the hardest things to do, but if you just try to take it one day at a time, you can do it!

Trust me, if you try to let yourself have -just one more...- You will fall right back into it and you will have to start quitting all over again. The first week was really hard for me, but it got easier after that....
Hi Kansas55,

I can relate. To me I was a casual smoker from 15-21 then got -saved- and joined up with -the- church for about 13+ years not smoking of course, also because it wasn-t addictive at that time and my college roomate simply asked me why I smoked and I through the cigarettes away in the trash. Gave up other things too for example sex which also at that age wasn-t addictive yet.

Fast forward 22 years, over the last 8 years minus a little I-ve put some emotional distance between me and the church, stopped smoking gotten married and am in a decent job. Am I ever tempted to smoke ? Yes. But for me the couple -freedom- years have made me realize that to do things the right way is always the best. And I waited many years in a -cult- like church to find a compatible mate.

Marriage although an adjustment it becoming easier and comfortable at times. No one -s perfect so I didn-t distress myself the couple of times I relapsed. Am I stonger now emotionally? Yes and getting stronger everyday. Most days now I-m too busy to think of anything besides my wife, immediate family, work and God. Some people believe in perfection, either you smoke or you quit! I don-t . But you-ve got to remove yourself from smoking buddies and a regular smoking emvironment for it to work more easily. Lot-s of people boast at the clubs that they quit -cold turkey-? The facts say differently, at least if you want to win the battle long term.

Take life one day at a time. Stopping smoking is a daily battle depending in how much stuff is wrapped up in the experience, your environment, will-power/spirit power if your religious etc. My sister in England has chain-smoked daily for much longer than I did and has now quit last I heard for 6 months straight! She-s 50 next year. -Many people thought it near impossible-. She tells me it-s a dirty nasty habit that will kill you and I completerly agree now. I babied it and said I loved it, it satisfied me, it gave something to me emotionally when I needed it, etc. That attitude will -never- work trust me if you really want to quit and quit bad for yourself.

If however your like Johnny Carson or George Burns who we all know lived to 100 constantly smoking a cigar most his life then don-t fool yourself and waste your time, smoke to your hearts content. But if you-re concerned about your mortality and -lungs- shrivilling up as you live daily, all black and tarred, then quitting is for you. The choice is yours and yours only.

I hope by putting out an S.O.S. that you do want to save your soul and your life from a premature end then take heed but do not ever give up the fight. Fight hard until you drop then fight some more. Most people cannot quit addictions without a fight. Old habits do die hard and although easy to make are hard to break, -but can be broken-. Think of all the money wasted on cigarettes, yes it was wasted, yes it was wasted, yes it was wasted! Have a higher opinion of your own self-worth/self-value. Heap on the self-love! LOVE YOURSELF.

Today, I do not struggle with the desire to smoke. Yes I see people do it and like you they look happy and like their having a good -ole- time but looks are deceiveing and the irresponsible media is partly to blame as are the tobacco companies and the whole carton-tooting society. Yes blame somebody else not yourself, but take responsibility for contiuous bad behaviour in this regard and not if your trying your best. Remeber the keys:

1. Find a substitute happy activity with people or things.
2. Denying yourself is a good thing.
3. The desire will decrease with time eventually, believe me even if it kills you emotionally and you feel you can-t do it.
4. Pray to GOD it helps, believe me. Faith in GOD and yourself is a powerful weapon against addictions of whatever kind. BELIEVE ME!! And GOD listens and accepts you as long as you are genuine and trying. Bible says -man looks at the outward appearance (of people, situations and things) but the LORD looks at the HEART- (genuine attempt). Praying to GOD for help is not embarassing, I don-t care what people say they don-t know me, they can-t judge me, and if they do it doesn-t count.

I think you can make it smoking free if you really want to. Do you really want to?

If you were in Iraq and got -gangrene- in your leg from a wound would you amputate it to save your life. If you answered no, then you don-t value yourself, your health and your life and happiness enough.

Good luck and in the tough love of Jesus Christ.

Barry H

GET WITH IT SOLDIER, DON-T YOU SEE WE--RE LOOSING THIS WAR! Somebody-s GOTTA HURT YOUR FEELINGS.

you are just noticing it, don-t let those influences mess with
your mind, you should be glad you quit, dont start again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!…
That makes it tougher, doesn-t it?
Don-t tough it out so much..try the patch, or some nicotine gum or lozenges. You don-t have to go cold turkey.
Ease yourself out and you will stay out. Force yourself out and you could relapse.

I need a good gift idea for my mom, she just quit smoking! and joined weight watchers... any ideas? -

im really proud of her, but i am only a teenager, and only working a minimum wage job. i cant afford much. for christmas i want to get my mom something she can use, maybe something tieing into the weight watcher and her quitting smoking. (p.s shes lost 13 lbs :-D)
When I saw your question my first thought was: a new, flattering outfit! But I know that a whole outfit can be expensive, so maybe that-s not the best idea. Say -good job- from me! I-m so proud of all the healthy changes she-s been making! And you sound like you-re being such a supportive, loving daughter...bless you both!
get her a T-shirt for weight watchers, that will reflect the 13lbs that she has lost.(her size now) maybe you can get something printed on it.
To stop smoking: TARBLOCKS. My mom uses them and within a week I believe it was, we all noticed a big difference. Her breath smelt less like a rotten ashtray, she finds herself with more breath and isn-t worn out so easily as previously. TARBLOCKS usually run about $2 but they are seriously worth it.

To loose weight, Slimfast Optima. It-s helping me a lot.
sad to say this.. but i dont think she wud last the distnce... i am not pesimestic, but lots of pple barely make it thru 5months without the addiction re-0curing.
what i wud advice u is to stand by her when she starts failing.. b strong, supportive and yet VERY FIRM. take the cigarettes away, make her life uneasy if she eats too much, den smile n say u did it 4 her good.
a time comes wen we have to mother our own mothers.

buy her a simple gift...or a book.. wit pictures about the subject of struggles... something educative and relaxing
gift certificate for her fav clothing store, she-s gonna need new clothes, and dont forget to constantly congratulate her on the new decisions in her life as well as her new life becoming. It-s very important to keep it on track, your very lucky to have a mother so concerned with life!
I-m sure anything would be much appreciated, but you could get her something with an inspirational saying on it, and let her know how proud you are of her and it will help give her a boost when the going gets tough. Maybe a massage or something also would be nice. You can get a gift certificate for that, and they run about $30-$50. Or, get her a membership to the Y in your area. Maybe a dual one and you can work out with her! Good luck
how bout a subscription to a weight watchers / shape type of magazine. or any inspirational magazine - they have those great -real life stories- in them - about other women that have achieved great things like your mom. that might inspire her to keep it up! and you get good deals on mag subscriptions at this time of year.
My mom has been doing great also with losing weight. She said her main reward is to go shopping..so maybe a gift card to her favorite store will help. She can buy herself new clothes. Or try spa time for you and her together. My mom and I did that and it was wonderful.
I would say don-t get anything related to either of those things- let her know you-re happy for her, but that she-s not doing it for you. her success is her own and she will feel as if she has disappointed you if she gains the weight back and starts back smoking. k, sorry for the psych stuff... does she have a favorite perfume? a new purse is always fun, too
gym membership. especially around the holidays, health fitness clubs usually give a great deal on memberships.
buy her a nice hand bag.my daugther just bought me one and i love it.

I have Quit Smoking for 5 days? -

and my eyes feel funny my vision gets alittle blurry, is that a withdraw?
YES im sorry to say it is. But dont stop now!!! Keep yourslef distracted buy eating peanuts(it will keep your hand busy).

-please tell me when you choose best answer if you have quit 4 good by then!
if you are on day 5 the withdraw symptoms are done (with smoking physical withdraw symptoms only last 3 days, after that comes the hard part, the mental part, the breaking habit part. The eyes feeling funny and being blurry could be anything, allergies, headache (maybe stress headache from trying to break a habit), i wouldnt worry about it, but if it continues past the end of the week i would go to a doctor.
yes it is remember smoking is bad for u so it is good u quit you will feel better in no time
Hang in there, you will feel so much better!!! My husband quit smoking cold turkey and I love it!! No more bad breath, his clothes don-t smell, - that nasty cough is gone.
Might be one of the withdrawal symptoms. It will pass, keep it up!
It is -- hang in there. I wish I could quit!
yes, but keep up the good work, you-re on the road to recovery.
I dont- know... but congratulations keep up the good work
yeah. congrats! keep it up, you-re on the way to a healthier you.

What is the best way to get rid of congestion after quitting smoking? -

What is the best way to get rid of congestion after quitting smoking? -

I have just recently quit smoking and I am starting to notice that this congestion is really starting to bother me. I was wondering what the best way to get rid of it was or how I can facilitate my body fight to get rid of it.
Drink lots of water. I quit 7 years ago and I had the same thing. Your body is trying to shed the dead cells in your lungs and get rid of the mucus in there. Cough, cough and know your on your way to a healthier life. You could take some drugs Im sure but why trade one vice for another?

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
drink lots of water, dont smoke again or you will start smoking again, it should last about 2 weeks you will feel better soon, stick with it, i know its hard but it will make you healthier and will give you a self esteem boost when you have finished going through the quitting symptoms. you may also get sores in your mouth, it is a side effect of your mouth healing. for other side effects go to a site called stopsmokingcenter.net or something like that it deffinately is -------center.NET, it is a lot of work but will keep your fingers busy so you wont have time to smoke, there is a lot of reading and question answering that will be beneficial to you and a network of quitters that you can talk to who are going through the same things. GOOD LUCK and stick with it:D

ME TOO. That-s why it-s called addiction.
Its normal. Your body is going through withdrawl which makes you very emotional. Luckilly and hopefully thats the only thing thats happening. Some people can only think about food and put on a ton of weight when trying to quit. So be thankful you are just crying. Everyday it will get easier! Good luck!
Depression is a classis nicotine withdrawal symptom. Try a natural remedy for it. I did and it worked for me. Natural remedies are harmless but effective.

I am currently trying to quit and yes I feel like that sometimes. Especially at night. Good luck to you!
I am taking Chantix too - but I am very weepy. Everything makes me cry. I think it is your body switching over - hormones or something. Congrats on quitting! You can do it!

Gained weight from quiting smoking
3 weeks pregnant
Want to lose the smoking weight before I start gaining the baby weight.
I lost 105 pounds in 6 months. Here is how I did it.
1. Every morning get up and walk for 45 minutes. You can start with less time, but you want to get up to 45 minutes, and it must be fast walk. You want your heart rate to go up. It must be in the morning, it kick starts your metabolism.
2. I cut out Red Meat, and fatty foods. Boneless skinnless chicken breast, baked, or grilled, rice and vegetables (steamed).
3. Eat half. Just eat half of what you normally eat. Put 1/2 on your plate, and put the rest away. Cook less. When you go to fast food, get salads only. Or grilled chicken. No fries, diet soda. Or water.

It will work, once you get into a routine, you will get hooked on the results, and you will keep the routine. It has been over a year for me.
walk.
eat as many healthy foods as possible. dont worry about losing wieght now youre gonna get big anyway lose te weight after the baby. DONT STOP EATING!
30 minutes on a treadmill, 15 minutes on the bike, then weights for about 30 minutes.

Ask a trainer and your doctor first, though!
You can still exercise when you are pregnant. Talk to your doctor about what is OK... but eat healthy foods, not junk food, and up your exercise and you should be fine - and of you continue this healthy lifestyle after the baby, you will lose the weight quicker too.
it is very dangerous to try and lose while pregnant

i have actually lost weight by accident while pregnant just through trying to have a balanced low fat diet rich in vitamins fruit /veg
cut down on your fat/sugar/carbohydrate in take, eat fruit instead of junk when you are hungry, increase your exercise levels, go swimming or walk a few miles a day, that should help.
start eating very healthy for the baby. Also watch your food intake, eat five small meals a day rather than 3 large ones. No pop no greasy foods, and start walking everyday.
As a mother of 5 who quit smoking as well...do NOT try to lose weight while pregnant! Just try to curb your cravings and eat right. Eat for 1. If it bothers you that much, consult a physician.
I have a feeling that you are going to be one of those women who ends up 100lbs heavier after having a baby and never loses it.

I hope you are married to a really great guy, cause it is going to be hard to find a new guy when you have a kid and an extra 100 lbs.

i only am 5-9 160lbs. I drink at least 50 oz of water, plus gatoraide and juice (oj and pure cranberry) a day.
mostly,
I think you will. I saw a thing on this show MANswers and people have gotten high the day before the test drank 2 gallons of water and passed. Another trick was take 2 asprin before just to be sure, or work out, or a spa to sweat it out if your worried. But from experience I think you will pass a urine test. Not a blood test though.
Yeah, I would think so too. If you know when the test will be, I would maybe not do any strenuous exercise for the couple of days before. Iirc marijuana chemicals partition into fat and could be released were you to do strenuous exercising.
THey prbably wont but just in case drink a lot of water. Not too much -cause urine has an acidic value and water doesn-t. If they see that your urine doesnt have an acidic value (from the water) than they know you-ve got something to hide.
Don-t worry if its only a urine test because marijuana only lasts in the body for at least 90 days if they complete a hair follicle test but since they only are doing a urine test it should not show up on any test results.
You probably will but may not. That is the answer. Just drink a ton of water before the test so your urine is very dilute. This may help.
Urine you might, but hair you won-t. Hair will go back up to 10 years.
probly

You need to keep your attention on other things. Play video games, read a book, watch a movie, go for a walk. If you keep yourself occupied, you won-t think about it as much. And keep healthy snacks on hand like celery and carrot sticks so you don-t have to go for potato chips, cookies, and cakes.
