What keeps you from going crazy when quitting smoking cold turkey? -

I have noticed that after a day or so of not smoking I start getting very irritable and cranky and downright ancy. How long does this last. I have only been smoking for a few years but I am sort of a heavy smoker. I wanna quit and I want some advice from people who have done it cold turkey.
Takes forever to get it out of your system. I just stopped one day. I think realizing that you don-t get much from it helps you out the most.
Nicotine Narcotic Poison is used by many plants for defense against insects. The game plan is for the Narcotic to mimic the -satisfaction and sense of well being- brain enzyme, and stop the insect from eating the plant, while it slowly dies from the toxin/poison characteristic roughly 100 times the toxicity of cobra venom. Humans are tough enough that given time, we can build up resistance to the poison, and enjoy the narcotic. However, the brain stops making that enzyme on its own, if we do this. Psychologically, we have a programmed need for feeling -okay- at intervals, as our ancestors who sought security, satisfaction, etc., did better in life and had more children to pass on the genetics for that sort of built-in game plan. If a person is addicted to frequent Nicotine Narcotic binges, and quits, the instinct that something is dreadfully wrong falls upon us. Observe a lovers couple pouncing on cigarettes and pretending the feeling of satisfaction was from the sex! Hilarious and disturbing seen for what it really is. Tapering off is as good as toughing it out, for various kinds of people. But stop poisoning oneself and everyone around oneself. Regards, Larry.

Quit smoking? -

I quit smoking and I was wondering how many days does the average withdrawls take to go away? And what can be done to alleviate them/lessen the extent of them.
When I quit, there were times when I was really anxious. Not alot but for the first week or so. I asked my doctor for something for anxiety and it really helped. It was a very small prescription and I used it very rarely. ( I didn-t want to substitute one addiction for another) but it did help.
There are many ways. Nicotine replacement therapy - gum , lozenges, patch. Anti-depressants - Zyban is one. Chanitx. The last 2 require a doctor-s prescription.

Check out Quit Assist,
http://www.philipmorrisusa.com/en/quitas…
Family Doctor,
http://familydoctor.org/online/famdocen/…
and Nicotine Busters,
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Nic…
for other ideas, such as drinking water, exercising, chewing on a straw, etc.

Good luck!
I tried Zyban - made me feel very depressed once I came off it - not recommended IMHO.

I also dont believe in nicotine substitutes since it is the nicotine that we are trying to get rid of, these merely prolong the misery.

Many people will give you many different pieces of advice and none can be considered incorrect but this is a very complicated subject and the answer is not as simple as something that can be detailed in just a few words.

It is however mainly psychological rather than a physical addiction - if you address the psychology then the withdraway symptoms can go away virtually instantly, if you dont then they can stay with you for years!

Throughout your life you have been conditioned by society into believing all the things that you currently beleive, at a fundamental level, about smoking. In order to quit and quit for good, without all the usual cravings, desires to go back, doubts that you made the right decision and enjoy the rest of yoru life as a happy non-smoker - you need to address ALL the -training- that you have received that led you to become a smoker.

This can take some time - I smoked for 20 years (20 a day) and it took me a few weeks to get my head around quitting. So dont expect just to be able to quit on day one and that-s that! I mean, if you do then great but all I am saying is that it might be better to prepare a little first so that you give yourself a greater chance of success. It is really horrible to quit and then go back to it after a few days so it is far better if you can make this quit attempt the last!

I am happy to help you on an onging basis so please go over to my site to see what I am about and if you like the look of what you find there drop me a line.

How can i get a hold of some dopamine? literly i need some alternate of this since i quit smoking? -

Heh

You can-t take dopamine itself because it doesn-t cross the blood/brain barrier. People with Parkinson-s Disease take l-dopa to increase dopamine levels, but I don-t think you-d want to do that!

Any pleasurable activity or drug causes the brain to release dopamine where you want it, but the drugs will merely postpone your withdrawal or deepen your addiction and many of them are worse for you than smoking.

So I-d say just ride it out until your brain gets back into balance. If you can-t, get some nicotine lozenges, they-ll ameliorate withdrawal at the cost of stretching it out. Or you can just use them forever -- they contain nicotine so they give you a buzz but they don-t cause cancer. Or get a prescription for Zyban (Wellbutrin), an anti-smoking pill and antidepressant that works as a dopamine reuptake inhibitor. It increases the amount of dopamine in your reward pathways, but it can have some serious side effects.

How do i quit smoking-cold turkey??? -

i-m addicted to cigarettes, and i-ve got asthma, too. i really want to quit smoking for my own health, and i-m tired of my mom always telling me i stink of cigarettes, and not being able to go a day without one. i wish i never started smoking, cause now it-s hard for me to quit. what do i do?
Sounds like you are ready to quit. There are lots of helpful products out there, take advantage of them. They really help the withdrawal and give you a better chance at success. You can do this. This site has some good info.
Good Luck !
just quit and know that you will not die if you don-t have one. if anything you-re more likely to die if you do have one. cigarettes are unhealty and lots of people die of lung cancer, heart disease, and emphysema, over a habit that they could-ve avoided. there are other healthier ways of relieving your stress. smoking is a negative, unhealty way. try exercising, reading a book, watching a movie, or simply call a friend. you life may not be all that great, but, i-m pretty sure it will be a lot worse if you develop lung cancer or emphysema.
To start quitting is a pretty good idea.

You-ll find usefull info there.

Good luck !
ask familyy to help...if your mom is telling you this stuff then im sure she would be more than happy to help you stop...JUST STOP dont buy them.....tell friends and family to not let you buy them try to avoide going by them in stores and such....if you are craving them and it is the worst thing ever think about how many other things are worse in the world...try sucking on hard candies too....
I-ve heard that quitting cold turkey is not as effective as having a good plan. Using a combination of exercise, peer support, nicotine patch, etc., a smoker has a better chance to actually quit smoking. Those to try quittint it cold turkey tend to go back to smokey.
My bf quit smoking last month after 7 years. He too went the cold turkey way and he found it extremely difficult. He did however persist with it and resisted temptation. If you really want to go down this route, prepare to go through hell once the withdrawal kicks in. He found that drinking lots of water, taking exercise and avoiding situations where he would want to smoke, helped. My advice however would be to see a Dr and work out a plan. Sometimes quick fixes aren-t the solution and a long term plan may prove more successful.

Good luck.

like any weird side effects after i stop?
will i feel unbearable like i need it?!
unfortunately you will feel some side effects and slight craving but nothing serious its all will power
You will feel 1000% better, and no, no withdrawal symptoms. You might crave it a bit, but your health will improve so much that you will be feeling terrific, and you-ll be in your right mind to enjoy it. Congrats on a wise choice.
Weed doesn-t make your body physically addicted to it, so no side effects there.
You should be ok. Hang in there! You-ve made the right choice.

I cough alot since i quit , but i can breathe alot better and info. on this ?
Yes, you will have some coughing as your esophagus is kind of starting to sort of repair itself since it isn-t getting the smoke and stuff anymore. This should only last for a couple weeks at most. I had the same thing when I quit. Congrats to you, and stick with it!
Yeah, when my girlfriend quit, she coughed a lot for about a week afterwards. I assumed it was her lungs and such trying to get rid of all the crudshe-d accumulated. You-re fine.

And well done!!! Isn-t it nice to breathe free?

OK weight gain is almost inevitable after you quit smoking. If I use nicotine patches will it help? -

I know that if you don-t cut down calorie intake or increase exercise level you gain weight when you quit smoking. If I use nicotine patches at least for a while, will they increase my metabolism rate and and avoid weight gain?
Don-t worry, any weight gain should normally be only temporary, and it was in my case (many years ago), and I was underweight anyway. Metabolism will adjust accordingly. My doctor told me years ago that your brain decides that your body can make its own nicotine from the consumption of sugar, which is why you will more than likely suddenly desire sweet things after you stop the smoking or nicotine patches. Being aware of this and controlling that urge to buy sweets, lollies and sweet drinks and you should be fine weight wise. Note also that most low-fat foods these days are actually high sugar, but they don-t like to tell you that. Good on you for having a go at giving up - It can be done.
They will. But you have to come off nicotine at some point. There are other things that increase your metabolism like green tea and turmeric. Look to increase you intake of those and hopefully it should be cancelled out.

Good luck in quitting smoking - it-s a ******.

EDIT - Weight gain doesn-t just happen because you eat more - smoking raises your metabolism so you do gain weight, even if you dont eat any more that you did before. You have the right idea of decreasing intake or increasing exercise.
also one of the common reason why people tend to gain weight is that after smoking is left, they need some sort of stimulant , in more than many cases they find it in eating,i am not saying its- a eating disorder, but definitely should be given a thought.

you shoudl try to find your replacement stimulant in exercise
You don-t necessarily need to increase your exercise level or cut down your calorie intake - you just should watch that you don-t *increase* your food intake since a lot of people tend to replace their smoking habit with eating. My understanding is that-s how the weight gain happens.
I don-t think the patch does anything for your metabolism rate, but perhaps someone else knows better than me.
Your metabolism has nothing to do with smoking, as their are plenty of over weight smokers in the world, making their own health issues more of a risk for themselves. I believe personally the weight gain is all mental. The patches i have no personal experiance with although unfortunatly I have been a faithfull smoker for...well more years than i like to admit. I have tried to quit several times and the eating more occures from the mental habbit of constantly having that cigg. in my hand and mouth u kno. I watched my own sister, smoker of over 20yrs say - I am done smoking-! and mean it. She must have baught 5-6 of those big holloween sized bags of the minty life savers a month. And every time she had a craving, she would pop one of those. Her purse and pockets were constantly filled with them, and even had one after every meal in place of that smoke break. Amazingly enough, she never gained any weight. Very admireable, and I was a jelouse sister indeed of her strength and will power. Now OVER 5yrs later, she is still a -non-smoker-. Very proud of her, and believe any one else can do the same. Nicotene in my opinion is the MOST addictive, and one of the hardest habbits to break.
Good luck, and God bless! If you do try the patches, pls let us know how that works out for you!
Ask your doctor!
Check with American Cancer Society and the Lung Association!
better talk to you doc.

How hard was it for you to quit smoking? -

How hard was it for you to quit smoking? -

How long did it take for you to get over the cravings, and how did you do it?
Very hard but it was well worth it.
I would say it took a month.
Tips: I kept things around that I could put in my mouth in place of a cigarette. I also put some stubs in water and took a whiff of them every once in a while. That is pretty rank.
Sometimes I would inhale others smoke.

It takes a lot of determination Go for it!
oohlala, i feel for your torture....i quit 3 times before getting it to stick....i smoked so much my nickname was and still is -smokey-...i have been frre from them for 5 years and STILL get cravings ( like when smelling someone do that first light up)... here is how i quit - first switched from cigs to cigars ( like swisher sweets ) for about 2 months....this helped reduce the addictive additives i was getting from cigs...then when i quit smoking altogether, i exercised about 3-5 times a week plus stayed active doing things like walking trails and bike rides....this was the big trick to making it work...the exercise change my body chemically and reduced my cravings dramatically....hope this helps and best of luck
Tried a few times, couldn-t, so I made myself cut down a little at a time, I ended up smoking 5 cigarettes a day, then I realized if you stay at places where you never smoke, it makes it easier. Quit 8 years ago
as i get water from mirages and as i get oil from sand
It took me 3 tries within 1.5 yrs. cuz i can-t quit cold turkey.

And I go the nicotine shakes. There-s no remedy for those, you just have to bear it.

And with the shakes come the cravings. I misunderstood them to be hunger pangs, but it wasn-t. You-re gonna go crazy trying to figure out just what it is your body is craving. It-s not sleep/ food/ partying/ etc.

Don-t eat yourself into a coma like a lot of idiots do; just remember your body is wretching from filtering out the nicotine in your system. That is what they mean when they say -If you quit smoking, you-ll get fat.-

Drink lots of water to help the detox process. And keep physically busy to replace the absence of what to do with your hands (which will not hold another cigarette) now that you-ve been liberated.

ONe last thought: None of this will work out if you continue to stand right next to smokers. Just as alcoholics shouldn-t go into bars, avoid smokers like the f****g plague or else you-ll get the urge to do it all over again and believe me, you-re not gonna win.
I found out I was pregnant in March, so I quit cold turkey the day I took the pregnancy test! It was very difficult, but knowing it was for the health of my baby (and myself) I knew I had to do it! So knowing I had to made it easier for me.

Whenever I got a craving I-d chew on some gum, suck on some hard candy, or chew on a straw. I always carried candy or gum with me for the first month, when the cravings were the worst.

I had my baby on Christmas Eve...he was a very healthy 7 lbs 8 oz, and beautiful, and I-m happy I quit!

I still get cravings for a cigarette every now and then (especially when I-m driving in my car or stuck in traffic) but I-m done smoking! I-ve gone 9+ months not smoking, so I know I can keep it up!

If you are trying to quit, I wish you all the best! It-s probably easiest to ween yourself slowly...start cutting back on the number you smoke a day, and then start using the patch (I-ve heard it works well.) Once you get past the first few weeks, and then the first month, it gets easier from there.

Good luck! :)
It was one of the hardest things I-ve ever done ! I just treated it like any other illness. Plenty of fluids lots of sleep, the withdraw sucked for about a week, (but so does a bad cold)after four weeks I just started a bunch of new habits, not just one. 12 years free now and I knew when I quit it would be worth it.and it is! no more cravings here. in fact I can-t stand to be around it or people who do smoke....nasty habbit! I also brainwashed myself by reading all the bad stuff about what smoking does to you.
I tried a few things. never did get around to the patch. Then a girlfriend pay $100 for me to be hypnotized. Too around 1 hour and was a one on one. I didn-t think it worked because I felt away the whole time. Just laid there and relaxed with my eyes closed as he talked.
Worked like a charm!
You still get a LIGHT craving now and then but they go away within 30 seconds.
No problems being around smokers either, except that it stinks and makes your clothes smell, but you won-t want one.
Good luck and you will feel so much better a month or so later you won-t understand why you even smoked before.

3 - get locked up
4 - be committed and go to rehab
5 - STOP
6 - give your crack to me - i-ll tie you up so you can-t smoke it

Wow - thanks for the 4 stars!! My OCD would cause me to get slightly unnerved had you given me 3 or 5 stars - we seem perfect for each other. Thanks again!

I-ve been smoking weed since 6th grade and i-m almost a junior in highschool in the past 4 years the longest i went without weed was a week. need ADVICE!
Weed is not addictive. That-s a fact. So you just have a habit like biting your nails. Except this habit can cause lung cancer, cancer of the esophagus, and more.
Now, it-s just mind over matter. All you need is the WILL to quit, and then a some willpower. Don-t even keep the stuff around. That way you won-t be tempted.
Being naturally high is so much better! WILLPOWER! Mind over matter! You can do it! I know you can.
Bless you! :)
Get a smoking substitute. Weed isn-t addictive, but it also doesn-t cause any kind of cancer, miss nurse. Any cancer associated with smoking weed is caused by rolling it in tobacco paper. However, it is proven that smoking it before the age of 15 can cause developmental damage, which is probably why it-s so hard for you to quit.
This is easy! Just don-t smoke anymore. Same way I quit nicotine. The darn things don-t jump in your mouth and light themselves! It requires a conscious effort to roll and smoke. JUST STOP!
O.o thats a long time idk just try and get a new hobbie 2 replace smoking weed idk try a sport or a game

How many attempts did it take before you successfully quit smoking? -

The key is not how many attempts, but how long. Just between you and me (lol), the magic number in quitting is -3.- You have to get over three -3- milestones: 3 days, 3 months, and 3 years. Once you get over the 3-year milestone, you are home free!
I don-t smoke, but my dad was a chain smoker for over 50 years, and tried to quit many times unsuccessfully. What finally did get him to stop, was the surgery for lung cancer at age 81. He quit three days before surgery and hasn-t smoked since (it-s been about a year and a half now).
it can take many times or even just once for someone ive tryed about 5 times sence i was 11 i am 21 now and havent stoped yet.... Sorry i couldnt be more of a help
None, I never smoked =) My husband smoked though and when I got pregnant I told him he had to quit within a month and he did, first try, I guess he had a good incentive though. Good luck trying to quit.
0 i didnt start in the 1st place so i didnt need to stop
I have always been able to stop smoking, I smoked before I moved to Spain to be with my husband, the day I moved over, I stopped, that was just over three years ago. I didnt start again until I was in prison, that was November last year, the day I got out, I stopped again, that was four months ago and not slipped up once
Don-t for one m inute think I-m a self righteous cow, I-d start again now if I could, but the fact my husband doesnt smoke stops me
Five
Several insincere attempts. Stopped first try using the patch (2 months). Then went overseas and immediately re-started. Haven-t tried quitting since. DAMN....Good luck!
I-ll get back to you on that if I ever decide to quit...lol..
Didn-t count.
One. I went from 2+ packs a day to zero in one day. I have not had one cigarette in the 32 years since. It is HARD but if you REALLY want to you can. Cutting down, special chewing gum and patches etc. only make the process longer and usually fail in the long run. Hold on to your hat and go cold turkey, its the only sure way. Good luck.
I never quit.

I can go without smoking for weeks but not because I try to quit. It-s not big a deal to me.
more than 10 and counting
good luck
I quit twice successfully during pregnancies....since then have tried about four times, and haven-t made it yet...but want to give it another go soon!

Good luck to you...just think of each failed attempt as practice.!
1... i was in the hospital with a partiaclly colaspsed lung closed throat came close to a coma...im highly allergic thats why im so happy ontario passed the law of ALL public places and 50 feet from doors is smoke free :D

My fiance is having great problems quitting smoking, and this is his 4th try in quitting. On the 3rd day we decided to give each other 2 months - I to lose the extra weight i-ve gained, him to quit smoking. Is this wise? He gets dizzy, chest pains and can-t sleep when he doesn-t smoke for more than a day.
We want to have him quit smoking before we get married.
He surely need to quit...as smoking is not only bad for both of you, but it is bad for your children, the example on how a father should behave - many other issue, plus smoking is actually kind of selfish act and costly too!

but i do really happy you said -We want to have him quit smoking before we get married- i really wish you two will have happy life in future that not included smoking as part of it...so may he sucuess!
you are welcomed :)

I-m extremely short and haven-t his a spurt-i-m 15 and a late bloomer and just quit smoking after 2 years on and off, will my growth be permanently stunted?
Myth, No.

Glad you quit smoking though, Kicked a nasty habit.
Nah, that-s an old wive-s tale -- studies show that teens who smoke grow to within 1 cm of teens who don-t smoke, which if you look at a ruler is essentially the same.

At 15, you have significant growth ahead of you, so I wouldn-t worry much about your eventual height, but if you-re concerned, ask your doctor.
it wont stund your growth, how tall you will be is all dependant on your genes, you will definatly grow once you hit puberty, my brother went through the same thing, he didnt hit it until he was 16 and he has grown about 10 inches in 9 months! 13 is kinda young to smoke so it is a good thing you quit
No. Smoking doesn-t stunt growth. That is a myth.

It-s not really shocking - just maybe not publicized enough. Smoking is the number one risk factor for developing bladder cancer. Sorry this had to happen to your ex.

What is an effective way to quit smoking and dipping? -

smoking is making me hiccup so ive been forced to dip for my nicoteine
you need to concentrate for a few days on quitting until you can quit cold turkey. I have done this two times in my life in the last 20 years. The first time lasted 7 or 8 years and I went back for about a year. Then when my wife and daughter kept on me my response was -I-ll quit when I-m ready-. I knew it was possible because I did it once. The problem with doing anything is the experience of doing it. Until you do it, you don-t know you can. Answer the question : when did I start smoking? after you answer it ask yourself if you got along without nicotine before you started, chances are you did just fine. So if the person who got along fine before was you, you can quit cold turkey. It only takes a few days for the worst part of the-withdrawal- to subside. The problem we all have is we have been programmed to think we can-t do anything by our selves anymore , we either need a pill, patch, support group, rebate check, cd on how to make a million dollars by next week, I believe you can quit. Don-t listen to people who can-t, listen to your own self who knows you need to for all those people around you who will have to watch you carry that oxygen bottle around and then watch you die before your time. I-m sorry about the last sentence ,but in a nut shell thats what it comes down to. P.S. did I tell you how great I feel and the $49/week I am saving...Its like a fence you get over, once you are over the -can I do this fence- you just throw the can, pack, needle, foul mouth, anger, [you fill in the word] away and don-t go back.

I hope this helps you
Dave
i have heard the ear zappin thing works pretty good but that cost about 90 dollars. i have also heard the patch isn-t half bad

Has anyone ever tried the quit smoking pill chantix? How has it worked for you? -

I am currently on my 13th day using Chantix. I have been smoking 1 1/2 pks a day for 31 years. I have tried to quit smoking 22 times and this time I believe that Chantix will help me. I am still smoking but much less than I used to. I also attend a Quit Smoking Program and Nicotine Anonymous. Chantix is not a magic pill. It eases the urges and lessens the withdrawals. After the 7th day I no longer needed that cigarette. The hardest part for myself is to break the habit. I do no crave it but due to a 31 year habit I have to refrain from buying them. That is my first hurdle. Tell yourself you can do it and be strong. You will overcome it. Good Luck!
I haven-t personally tried it, but I know people who have and they say it works great... a common complaint is constipation though. I went cold turkey a few years ago.. and it was difficult, but inexpensive.
I am taking it right now and so far I am very happy with it.
My projected quit day is 10/14/2007 so lets hope it continues to work for me!!!!
My aunt who is a -true smoker- started it about a year ago. I think she only took the pill for 6-9months. She has not had a cig in almost a year.
I-m a believer.

walk up to the store and buy a pack of cigarettes. I quit for health reasons--I was having breathing problems that I-m sure were due to the cigarettes, so I just quit cold turkey. But d*mn do I want one now. I always smoke when I can-t sleep. Tips on making it thru the night without lighting up?
Try and sweat it out after a couple of weeks it should be out of your system. I know it-s not that easy but I have been there I smoked for many years and believe me make the battle now instead of later, I could tell you the long sad story but here-s the bottom line two heart attacks caused by arteries closing up yes smoking will do that, quad bypass surgery can-t sleep more then a few hours at a time because I can-t breath I-m doing this to kill time till I can sleep . I cant walk to blocks because I can-t breath forget about working after ten minutes your tried out. Lost all my retirement money because of the heart surgery Hard to live on Social Security the last months money didn-t last the whole month and credit cards full now can-t pay for medication I need and I take 11 different kinds of medication if something doesn-t happen I-ll be sitting here waiting to die. So do Q/A till the feeling passes. Try not to smoke 20 years ago I watched people die and still I didn-t stop now it-s my turn, just think about constant pain day in and day out for the past 8 years. Hell of a way to live and most of it is because were addicted to smoking. I won-t be around so a early WELCOME TO THE CLUB.
I have never smoked but I have broken some really entrenched habits. Find something as an alternative, I suggest some form of excercise, find something you enjoy. Record your progress, make some goals to reach and adjust all your means to getting there. Make a list of all the things that you know smoking does to you, from health to cost to b/o etc. Make it really long, get angry at those cigarettes. Keep the list with you. Pull it out when you get the urge to light up, then turn to your alternative. If you are unfit, start with a good long walk, find yourself a track, make it routine. Desire to smoke = go for my walk. Im sorry I can-t help with the chemical side of things, but you can push through. You-re bigger than this. Count the days that you have stayed smoke free. Rejoice in each one. Good luck matey
omg gurl
I am in the exact same boat as you
It sux I kno
I actually have a 600ml pepsi bottle sitting infront of me full of butts and water
I was told when I feel the need to have a smoke
take a big sniff of that
well
its making me sick
but I still need a smoke
I start the nicoderm patches in a couple hours
I am also quitting for health reasons
I have asthma and Im going for the Gastric Bypass surgery
so Its a must lol

good luck
Lots of good advice above. One thing I would like to add is getting some mentholatum cough drops because inhaling the fumes mimics the sensation of smoke in the lungs. Congrats on quitting! You might want to get some patches though. If you can afford it Chantix is a really good prescription medication.
First of all, good choise on quitting. You were doing your body so much harm. It-s hard to quit straight away. Try using patches, they have different types, like 24hr, 16hr, or special 1s that help u ease into quitting over two weeks. You can also get gum. Whenever you have a craving, just get a stick of gum. There are lots of things you can do. Look it up on the internet. I hope I helped
chew gum or on a tooth pick or take sleepin pills u have to find sumthing to cover for wat u want find a hobbly tht u like and do that intill u kn that u wont light 1 up u will always want 1 no matter wat u do u just have to keep tellin ur slef no
dont think of it...you can have plenty of things to do like sing or just close your eyes... my dad had that problem so he quit smoking... ii wish you-d get better and get healthy... it-s really bad if you do it again...
Good for you for quitting! Advil PM or Benedryl!! Haha, you can-t smoke if you-re asleep :) Hang in there and just focus on how much better you-re gonna feel.
cigrattes has got nothing to do with sleep at least there is no proof supporting the idea. So just hold on and your sleep problem shall resovle with the time.
what usually helps is having cinnamon sticks around and just treat that like a cigarette or chew on it
have a blended nicotine milkshake.
Just pretend to smoke it sounds stupid that makes me feel better. Just imitating it is soothing for some reason. Good luck
I quit smoking yesterday and I cant sleep. What I really want to do is...? -

Is Nicotine chewing gum any good when trying to quit smoking?? -

It all depends if you really want to quit, I had sucess with it. Give it a try, anything is better then smoking. If the gum doesnt work, try the patch, if that doesn-t work try chantix. Just keep trying and you will eventually quit for good. Good Luck!

Quit smoking? -

i need to know the best way to quit smoking
im not addicted
but i cant quit cold turkey
im 17 years old
and i just want it gone with
but its more of a mental thing..
i dont wanna smoke..
i gag when i do
but i always go for one w/o knowing
help me?
i dont want to have to buy anything either
and i have weened myself off slowly
im down to like 2-3 a day
but id like to be down to 0
The best way to take that last smoke is to think about what good things will happen in your life once you do.

You add two years to your life.
You add healthy kids and spouse one day.
You don-t give other a chance of getting cancer from you.

Just think about the advantages rather that just the disadvantages (like getting breathing problems)....

And go for a quick walk to get fresh air if you feel particularly bad....just do it...

And good luck,I am proud of you.
Try the electronic cigarette (Ruyan)? It delivers nicotine, but not the toxic substances:

Well friend that was a mistake to start it because wants you start, you can-t get off of it and want more. You need to quit buying cierrates, eat something better (food not drugs), try to save money for something else like a new car, new engine, or save the money in a bank for later on, and go see a doctor what you can do. I can tell some regertions for you if you don-t quit soon. Waste money on cierreates, get tar in your lungs that they-ll simpley dry up and your lungs will have a harder and harder time to get oxygen in and it can just stop and you-ll die. It-s best to quit now then later on the road of life because it-ll be easier. Just say no.
Go in the kitchen or ask your mom for a couple of hole cloves when you get the urge put one in your mouth and suck on it . (don-t chew ).

Maybe because smoking is an addiction. A terrible addiction at that. I used to be a smoker, but I-m now smoke-free for around 5 years. Happily living my life with my wife and kids.

From my experience, you need a wake up call- for you to see things through a different perspective.

I personally stopped because my doctor said if I carried on the way I was going, I would die and not see my kids grow.

The thought of that completely tore me apart and was the final nail my Smoking Era.

Hope I helped,

Chris
Repentance 1st, then used alternatives like eating menthol candy,
The shortest and least stressful way is with help.
Help to give you all the ways to put in a new non-smoking program or habit into your brain. The physical addiction to nicotine is gone in 2-3 days, so the rest is habitual, and psychological. I-m trying to quit smoking...yesterday I smoked one cigarette, today nothing. Beside effects I would also like to know some ways to deal with the cravings.I pretty much know some things from books or the internet, but I would like to know from real people who have experienced this.Thank you.
Have you tried one of the online smoking cessation forums? Unfortunately, I have not been brave enough or smart enough, for that matter, to lay the cigs down but I know from others that these work. Not only do the sites give you information but there are chat rooms/bulletin board type forums where you can share the experience with others, who are in the same shoes. Good luck and WOW, only 1 yesterday and none today. Good for you!

Expect to have the cravings for quite a while because you where on a drug and parts of your body will demand it. You might want to try a anti-smoking patch for a while. But if that-s not for you get a strong rubber band and put it around your wrist. Every time you watch to smoke pull it to snap it on your arm. After a while many people have trained their bodies to not want to smoke.
when i stopped i got angry very easy, and tended to eat more, iam now smoking again, but good luck to you
There-s no easy way of giving up, but it is possible. It really all depends on how much you smoke and for how long you-ve been smoking for. There really aren-t any effects of giving up smoking apart from the cravings of course. I found it relatively easy, because I was a light smoker. The trick is to stay away from anywhere where you know people are going to be smoking for the first few weeks, e.g. bars and night clubs, and operate a no smoking policy in your own home if friends or family who are smokers visit. I found that it wasn-t so much the actual habit that was hard to beat as much as the emotional attachment to ciggerettes in social environments e.g. smoking with friends over a drink and going out for a fag in my lunch hour. If you can somehow ditatch the connection between cigarettes and good times, that-s the key I think. Different things work for different people. I personally wouldn-t recommend hypnosis or nicotine replacement products unless you smoke a great deal. Instead, get some advise from your doctor and talk to other quitters so you get as much support and motivation as possible.

Good luck
I tried to quit smoking when I was in the military many times, and was not successful. However, when I got out, it was very easy. In my opinion it is best to quit when going through a big life change i.e new job or place or residence, but obviously you may not have that option. My suggestion would be to try a new hobby like running or anything else that will preoccupy you from thinking about smoking, and while at work or any other time you feel like smoking.... I guess try chewing gum.
This method works for me, I quite smoking 2 years ago
and is the only money back guaranteed.

Get the Facts
Easyway, founded by Allen Carr in 1983, has the highest independently verified 12-month success rate (75.8% for a smoker completing the program) of any quit smoking technique and a 90% satisfaction rating.

Compare Easyway to other methods and see for yourself why Easyway is called “The Cadillac of quit smoking methods.”

The Allen Carr Method
HOW THE METHOD WORKS

Using psychotherapy, the method works in the opposite way to the “willpower” method. It does not concentrate on the reasons the smoker should not smoke : the money, the slavery, the health risks and the stigma. Smokers know all that already. Instead it focuses on why smokers continue to smoke in spite of the obvious disadvantages.

It is fear that keeps smokers hooked!

Fear the smoker will have to give up their pleasure or crutch. Fear the smoker will be unable to enjoy life or handle stress. Fear the smoker will have to go through an awful trauma to get free. Fear the smoker will never get completely free from the craving.

The Method removes these fears
Smokers quit with the Allen Carr Method as happy non-smokers, not feeling deprived but with a huge sense of relief and elation that they have finally achieved what they always wanted….

TO BE FREE!

What about the terrible withdrawal pangs from nicotine?

The physical withdrawal from nicotine is so slight that most smokers don’t realise that they are addicts. What smokers suffer when they try and quit using other methods is the misery and depression caused by the belief that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch.

The Allen Carr Method removes this feeling of deprivation.
It removes the need and desire to smoke. Once the smoker is in the right frame of mind and they follow the simple instructions, the physical withdrawal from nicotine is hardly noticeable.

No Gimmicks!

The Method does not use any gimmicks, useless aids or substitutes. No nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, tabs, inhilators or nasal sprays! No needles! No lasers! No drugs! No herbs! No shock treatment!

The Allen Carr Method is successful because:

It removes the smokers’ conflict of will.
There are no bad withdrawal pangs.
It is instantaneous and easy.
It is equally effective for long-term heavy smokers and light smokers.
You need not gain weight.
You will not miss smoking.

Medical Endorsements

A personal view from Professor Judith Mackay MBE, JP, FRCO (Edin), FRCP (Lon), World Health Organisation Advisory Panel on Tobacco and Health

“I have no hesitation in supporting Allen Carr’s work. Many clinics use some of his techniques but it would appear that few do it in quite such a successful package.”

Carole Johnson, Coronary Heart Disease Prevention Unit, Tyne Tees

“his success rate was such that, when budgets allow, we continue to use Easyway for work with specific groups and individuals.”

Dr Anil Visa BSc, MBBch., FRCA, Consultant – Royal Hospitals NHS Trust – Royal London Hospital

“I have observed the Allen Carr method at first hand and have found it to be very successful and I wholeheartedly support it as an effective way to quit smoking.”

Dr William Green, Head of Psychiatric Dept, Matilda Hospital, Hong Kong

“It is a remarkable fact that Allen Carr, on his own admission a non-professional in behaviour modification, should have succeeded where countless psychologists and psychiatrists holding postgraduate qualifications have failed, in formulating a simple and effective way to stop smoking.”

Dr Martin Jarvis, Principle Scientist, Imperial Cancer Research
Fund and Reader in Health Psychology, University College London

”...I am more than happy to testify to Allen Carr’s enduring involvement and to recognise the value of the kind of behavioural and cognitive support he provides.”

Dr PM Bray MB CH.b., MRCGP

“I was really impressed by the method. In spite of the Allen Carr organisation’s success and fame, there were no gimmicks and the professional approach was something a GP could readily respect. I would be happy to give a medical endorsement of the method to anyone.”

Celebrity Endorsements

-His method is absolutely unique, removing the dependence on cigarettes, while you are actually smoking. I’m pleased to say it has worked for many of my friends and staff.”
Sir Richard Branson

“Some friends of mine who had stopped using Allen Carr’s method suggested I tried it. I did. It was such a revelation that instantly I was freed from my addiction. Like those friends of mine, I found it not only easy but unbelievably enjoyable to stay stopped.”
Sir Anthony Hopkins

GOOD LUCK!
