Whats the best way to quit smoking? -

i wanna start training for pro wrestling and i have to quit smoking . whats the best way?
As simple as it may sound, I suggest that you just quit with a mindset that you are not a smoker. If you really want to start training, then you have to realy want it othewise forget about it. Because smoking is not coool, it realy isn-t. Its a disgusting habit and can make you die.

How long does it take for your veins to expand after quitting smoking ? -

I-m having surgery on the 20th and my Dr. said to quit two weeks before then . I know that nicotine takes 1-2 days to get out fo your system, and the by products a month. I cant find anywhere online that tells you how long it takes for your veins to epxand and go back to normal.
oooh I don-t know - I never know they did that... damn I REALLY need to quit :(
I don-t know, but I heard that drinking lemon juice/lemonade helps a lot because it cleanses your lungs a lot.

What is the best way to quit smoking? -

So i cant afford to buy smokes anymore because they cost a freakin fortune.. arrrgggg.. best way to quit? anyone?
I was a 2 pack a day man...didn-t really want to quit...then I was introduced to electronic cigarettes at www.smoke-it.net
I haven-t smoked tabacco since. It replaces the nicotine so there are no withdrawls and you can -smoke- anywhere you like without the carcinogens
hi crystal...

actually there is no wrong way to quit.. some just work better for some people, other methods for other folks..patches, pills, cold turkey.. all have their good and bad points.. in any case good luck on your quit!!!!

myself i tried most methods at one time or another.. and eventually picked up... however the good news, is that i have been nicotine free, for over 5 years now.. i attend nicotine anonymous meetings, both locally and online...meetings are held in many areas, and there are a number of online voice meetings, on the web daily.. as close as your computer!!

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. What is the best non-harmful smoking alternative~I need to quit smoking!? -

I have seen all of these products that promise that you will quit but I cannot afford hundreds of dollars to try them all~ Would appreciate any responces on what has helped you quit the horrible stinky habbit!
Go to the doc and get a prescription for Welbutrin (zyban) but have him write the generic name or the insurance wont pay for it. It really does work. Give yourself a couple weeks on the pills before you try and quit. Then go get a patch and you will not even have the slightest desire to smoke. Stay on the patches until you go the full course, don-t quit early or you-ll be tempted to go back and stay on the pills for at least 2-3 months after you quit. Welbutrin is a safe drug and it works.
You can try all the Patches, Pills, Gum and whatever there is out there, but it won-t help you unless you truly have the will to quit. If you do, you won-t need anything. Stick a lolly pop in your mouth when you get the urge to smoke. Carry a few with you. Anything to keep your mouth and lips busy. Best of luck to you on your quiting.
The patch for sure. I haven-t smoked for 2 years and have had NO desire to light up again. Good for you for wanting to quit! My dad had a heavy habit and quit with Zyban, but I have no personal experience with that.
Think of the sickly pictures that printed on the box of cigarettes and
Your own health and your family.
My friends switched to chewing tobacco. The lesser of two evils I suppose although still gross.

Experience with quit smoking pill chantix ? -

Experience with quit smoking pill chantix ? -

I desperately need to quit smoking..Has anyone used chantix ? Please tell me your experience with it..
I once quit using wellbutrin, it made it easier...This time I don-t have the will power but I need to quit...Thanks in advance :-)
I was a smoker for years...2 packs a day. I went on Chantix in July of this year and was smoke free in two months. The good part of Chantix is you smoke while you are taking it. After awhile, the cigarettes taste terrible and smell even worse. You no longer desire a cigarette. I did have vivid dreams ( no nightmares) and I did feel nauseated if I didn-t eat before I took the pill, but it is nothing I could not deal with. I never thought in my life it would be this easy. So, if you are serious about quitting, please try Chantix. It is expensive, but it is worth it. I wish you all the luck in the world.
One thing with chantix, if you experience any mood swings, feelings of depression, or anything similar then STOP TAKING IT STRAIGHT AWAY.

There are a disturbingly high number of people who have either gone completely off the rails or actually committed suicide while taking it.

I-ve stopped today but it-s really getting hard to fight the cravings because of how heavy a smoker I am. Any help here? Cause it-s desperately needed!
Everyones told me cold turkey but as a smoker i feel like ringing their necks. lol. But seriously, I think you should ween yourself down. Like if u smoke 20 a day for the first week only smoke 15 a day then the next week only 10 a day, etc. Hopefully this helps. Good luck
If your a heavy smoker, your body is used to getting lots of nicotine and you are going to have a -Monkey-on-your-back- if you try to go cold turkey.

Best thing you could do is back off until your smoking less or better yet try a combination meditation/Bio-feedback!

Really, it works.

While your convincing yourself, that you don-t need to smoke as many cigarettes, you can practice holding a pen pencil or drinking straw like a smoke, when you feel like you need a smoke and even when you don-t.

Not at the important times , when you need a smoke the worst:
(drinking coke, or coffee, after eating, when you get up)
Then as you get used to pretending, increase the times you don-t smoke or pretend.

You have to believe your smoking and your brain will not know the difference.

Just close your eyes when you draw off the straw or pen, and feel the sensation of your lungs burning and the smell of the smoke when you breath out and see the smoke comijng out of your mouth....Works for me!

After you get the smoking down to one cigarette a day, you can smoke only one every three days..........

After you have completely replaced smoking, you should continue to use the pencil or straw for months!

Good Luck!

PS, Quitting will cause your body to flush the nicotine from your body, so your going to caugh as much as a smoker, for about a month.

Your still have times when you-ll catch yourself patting all your pockets and search for that cigarette, when ever your at that special place, when a cigarette was a great idea, for about a year.

But you-ll feel alot better!
I quit 7 years ago and never touched a cig since. But, I was REALLY ready to quit. I used the patch. I slept with the patch even though they say not to because of the bizare dreams you get. I did have bizare dreams too. But nothing I couldnt deal with and sleeping with the patch made all the difference. I kept a picture of my daughter and a color printed picture of a cancerous lung hung up in my cube at work. On a wall where only I would see it not to offend co-workers. I kept a diary and looking back at the entries in the diary, the patch helped but it-s not a magic wand. I had 3 weeks of -I don-t know if I can do this.-. Then it got easier. The bad days become less and less. I have NO bad days now. For a couple of years, you can expect to have dreams where you find yourself smoking. These will make you mad until you wake up and realize they are dreams. Good luck! You can do it when you are ready. BTW: I could not even make it through a 2 hour movie without leaving the theater to smoke. I was hooked BAD!
I tried everything! Then I read Allen Carr-s Easyway to Stop Smoking. I smoked a pack a day until I read the book, and stopped, just like that, no willpower, no cravings, no regrets and no cigarettes now for 3 years. It was the best thing I ever did. Now I recommend it to every smoker I know. You have nothing to lose by giving it a try. Good luck :)
maybe look for an alternative to smoking tobacco.
Look into electronic cigarettes to get off cigs and then work your way down in nicotine etc.

Praying to the Lord above. He is there for you always and especially if you are lost and never accepted him. If you haven-t then choose to today and ask him into your heart and repent of your sins and ask him to forgive you. Then start living for him by choosing a church that preaches his word the bible and then when you pray to ask him to help you with the quitting of the smoking then it will make it really easy cause you will be his child and he will hear you.

i started smoking when i was 16 and i quit last year in april ( i was 23 ) the stepping stone for me was i woke up from a rough night of drinkin and has the nastiest hangover so i decided not to smoke bc jus the thought was makin me gag and the next day i still felt a lil sick so i still didnt smoke and after the 2nd day i told my self that i dont need the ciggs no more and from then on ive been tobbacco free but i still get urges espicially when i see someone smoking on TV that is by far the worst urge i get.......when im around my friends n the smoke i don get any urges at all but if i see it on TV then i get the urge but dont follow thru with it...on april 7th its gonna be a year for me cold turkey... i suggest u dont set a particular date to quit bc ur jus gonna keep setting new dates everytime u fail u jus have to wake up and say OK TODAY I AM NOT GONNA SMOKE and follow thru with it... GOOD LUCK DUDE ull feel gr8 once u kick the habit
tell everyone you know so if they see you slipping they will ***** at you. other than that perseverance and determination. there are some prescription drugs out there if you-re not opposed to it.
my hubby got a timer that keeps track of how long he-s been without (down to the seconds). it helps to see how long you-ve gone.
you could make a list of why you want to stop and whenever you start to get really tempted take a look at it.
keep a jar and all the money that you would have spent on cigarettes would go in it. after a month or a couple weeks use it to do something for yourself, some sort of reward.
hope these help-GOOD LUCK!
I was a heavy smoker for 20 years, chain smoker, no filter cigarettes. One day suddenly my hands and feet became icy like there was no bloody going in. I thought i was going to pass out. I praied God to help me GO GO GO COLD TURKEY i stopped felt depressed at times everytime i wanted a cigarette i would go out take a walk or jog. When i wants a smoke i had a glass of water, i broke that psychological attachment to the cigarette. I changed things , i would clean the house, i would do walk the dog. Finally i did i started walking, now i walk ,iam in great shape i save lots of money too.
I have heard from a reliable source that Zyban is very effective. It causes an unpleasant taste in the mouth when you have a cigarette, in turn you naturally regard smoking as a disgusting habit. I also smoke and may start using it myself.

well make yourself so so busy!
i am trying to change (with something) that-s why i can understand you!
you should at least try. we don-t know that it might really help you, right?
i believe that it is only u that can help regarding this matter, Make yourself guilty when u are trying to smoke!
Make busy, pray to GOD and make yourself guilty is what I can share to you! (that-s what I-m doing!)
Allen Carr-s book. You can get it on Amazon. I was a -commited- smoker who didn-t really want to quit but really had to. That book changed my life! If I can offer one bit of advice, when you are ready read it cover to cover as quickly as you can...

After 22 years as a 20+ a day smoker.... I-m almost at two years without a single cigarette...... it really works!
Start regular running, cycling or some other form or aerobic activity. You will feel heaps better (crappy at first as all the craps works out of your lungs) after a while and see what you have been doing to your body. It worked for me.
man,

If someone can help me out i would be very grateful to him.I have been trying for more than 20 years but i fail.

Help, I want to quit smoking? -

I added up that my husband and I spend on average $160 a month on cigarettes and that-s only if he smokes one pack a day and usually he smokes 2 to 2 1/2 packs a day. I have three toddlers at home and I stay at home full time, I am so very stressed out but I want to quit. Please anyone with ideas or suggestions or who has gone through this and quit successfully, I would greatly appreciate words of encouragement and/or support that has help u through this.
Contact the American Cancer Society; your local hospital; American Lung Association; or any advertised Quit group. I quit cold turkey 25 years ago, and have led Quit groups. Talk with your family doctor, as he can give you a prescription for the patch, lozenges, or Wellbutrin. You are lucky that there are so many Quit aids available. You MUST declare your home a smoke free zone because of the 3 children. If you Must have a cigarette, go outside. Pick a quit date within the next 2 weeks, and get ready to be free of the habit. When you want a cigarette, take several deep breaths, take a quick walk around the block, drink 1-2 full glasses of water, or retreat to a quiet place and use relaxation methods for just a few minutes. Don-t worry about your husband-s habit--take care of yourself. It can be done, and MUST be a priority for you. Good Luck....
d magic word?

-nicotine patches-

go get them.........

n- best of luck!!!!!!
Love yourself!
Smoking is self-destruction, self-punishment, and any other self-inflicted damage.
You know well smoking destroys your health a puff at a time; using -stupid logic (obvious facts)- ; every puff punishes you for your or your loved ones- mistakes, remorses, failures, frustrations, and so on. Doesn-t it feel good and relief to be punished for your bad actions, get rid of that load in your concience, and feel that you pay for your mistakes (-- sins? --)?
Nicotine is poisonous for may species (e.g., insects, fungi, etc.) and addictive to humans; but it is as addictive as it is food, work, exercise, video games, pain killers and anything that makes you feel good, relief, successful and so on.
Learn to really love yourself, TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF and you will see life worth of living for and also you will enjoy even more all of your efforts (failures and successes)and the processes (time period) you put your efforts to.
Once you learn to love yourself, you will love even more the ones you love and teach them to learn to love themselves.
The rest of your life is yours to live happily. Cure your mind (heart) and you can cure your body a lot easier.
Do you remember: -do unto others...-?
Can you love others if you don-t know how to love yourself?
The addiction to smoking is all in your head. Your kids and finances are the main priority in your life right now so tell ure head to shut the @$%@ up when u think about smoking and move on. Trust me its simple.
Try buying the nicotine patch, gum, or any other products you can discover. No, I have never smoked in my life, but I know people who have and desperatley want to quit. If you get stressed out and feel like you need a ciggarette, try taking out your stress on other things, like taking a nap, taking a bath, relaxing. Think about your future, and your kid-s health and well being to keep you motivated. Don-t give up, it will be worth the work!
Everytime you pull out a cigarette, before it reaches your lips, think of your kids having to inhale your second hand smoke which is more harmful.

Cold turkey for a couple of weeks using the above method and you should be off the urge.
Your husband should do the same else with the box of ciagarettes lying around the house, it makes it easier for you to pick up one and more difficult to fight the temptation.
there could be any number of people here who had -successfully - done it any number of times. seriously , I am not a smoker.
I think one way is to slowly reduce the number of cigarettes you smoke daily.
reduce the quantity. another way to do this is by limiting the inhalations per cigarette. ( cheap trick , but it might work. like take 2 inhalations , put out the thing and keep it for later ? only at your home and in private. eh?)
try the usual things first, patches, gum etc,try to move the addiction (eg coffee) if you are in the Uk i know for a fact there are licenced people who can hyptize you in to not wanting to after just one session. good luck -x-
If alternative methods do not work for you,try cutting back little by little. I stopped by getting away from others that smoked at work. I chewed gum when the urged came. I smoked 2 packs a day down to 1 pack a week. I sometimes stop for weeks, but stress at work sometimes gets me going.
Try and stop for your children, think of the future of their health. If that doesn-t stop you nothing will.
I can help you with this i think, try your best not to smoke in a day throw away all your cigarettes and dont try to hide them either.Lol.im just joking, but you do that and it should work try for a week and you should be able to stop in no time.
get to the store and spend the money that you would have spent on killing yourself on some patches,,if not for you then do it for your kids,,I did it,,good luck
SOJ U GIEV!!!!!!111

How can I quit smoking? -

I have been smoking for a while now, I am scared that it will hurt my baby, i want to stop but it is so hard, also I am scared that when I stop that there will be more stress and that will hurt my baby, What should I do?
Cut down slowly, dont let yourself go into withdrawl all at once.
Find something else to keep you occupied...maybe exercise? Cooking...something like that. If you are working out, you will want to be healthier in order to feel better.
Just dont expect it to happen all at once...cut down, even 1 a day, until you are not smoking barely at all. Also, clean your house, and dont smoke inside. That should help
Whenever you feel like you want a cigarette, have something else. For instance my friend ate an apple every time she wanted one. Haha. You don-t have to do that but do you understand? SHe quit smoking in under 4 months!

What is the best way to quit smoking? -

What is the best way to quit smoking? -

# walk thirty minutes a day, no excuses

# Ask your doctor for prescriptions for 100 milligram Wellbutrin tablets, and nicotine patches

1. For 1/2 a pack a day, take 7-10 milligrams

2. For 1/2-1 pack a day, take 14 milligrams

3. For 1-2 packs a day, take 21 or 22 milligrams

4. For more than 2 packs a day, ask your doctor

# On day 31: two days before you plan to stop smoking, take 1 Wellbutrin (bupropion).

Next two days, take 1 Wellbutrin each morning.

# Apply your nicotine transdermal patch system on Day 33 (this is your stop smoking day). Place one patch on your arm, chest, or thigh (replace daily).

# On subsequent days, take Wellbutrin each morning and each evening. Most folks wean off Wellbutrin between days 90 and 180.

Continue walking thirty (to forty-five) minutes each day; feel free to drink as much coffee or water as you wish.

# Phone or e-mail your support person daily to discuss your progress.

# Begin weightlifting on Day 37 or earlier Do not increase your physical activities by more than 10 percent a week.

# Decrease dose of nicotine in patch every 2 months (you can cut patches in half) until no longer needed
there is a shot available i have no idea the name or cost but it supposedly only takes one and thats it...you might do a websearch for quit smoking shot and it should come up...good luck
run and if you really want to stop....you would make sure that ALL, AND I MEAN ALL cigarettes are taken out of your house.
so whenever you have your head on straight and you-re in the heat of the moment of being determined to quit, take that chance to get rid of all of the smokes. good luck.
maybe if you have a niece/nepew or kid, think that you could kill them with your second hand smoke, or someone else-s kid. STAY STRONG.
well if you have a partner that smokes try to get them to quit with you, the support will really help, if they wont or you are alone on the quitting then think of how many things would be better for you in life. and don-t forget the patch and a side of gum if you need it, but you have to be determined...none of that cheating bull...if you feel the need chew some gum, or do something productive to take your mind off of it...
start running
Patch, Gum. If that doesn-t work, buy A week-s worth of cigarettes and slowly cut back making them last for 2 weeks then never smoke again.
The patch delivers a constant dose of nicotine in your system.
The gum scratches the throat.

The Commit lozenge seems to work pretty well, alone.
sew your mouth shut
Best way is to use the patch (make sure to follow it) and keep a stash of gum for emergency.. I had been trying for ever and ever and it never worked.. i tried cold turkey several times, but, I kept going back.. until the patch...

smoke free for 2 years now..
Gum
quitters never win! if you really wanted to stop smoking, just stop it without telling anyone ...
avoid people who smoke so they don-t make you crave it, keep busy
If you want to quit, you actually have to w-a-n-t to quit. I mean you really have to imagine the rest of your life without cigaretts and then go for it with 110%. Try telling everyone you love that you are quitting, that way when you do finally quit you wont be tempted to start again because you wont want to disappoint everyone.
And Ive heard the patch really can do wonders!
Good luck!!
...never start
im not sure what works best, but i know u need a lot of motivation and support from ur friends and family to keep u goin, but i-d try the patch and maybe some gum on the side, if u can find any that tastes good
The best way to quit smoking it-s just QUIT!!!!! that-s how I did it and it worked
patch and sunflower seeds
to never start smoking in the first place
Sleep therapy
the gum worked for me..i smoked 20 yrs..and had no withdrawal..i recommend it..
switch to gums when you feel like smoking...
stop buying cigarettes.
Set a date when you are going to quit, then quit. Throw out all your tobacco and related tobacco stuff. If you can, arrange to be on a trip or very busy so you will have other thoughts to occupy your mind. When you find yourself thinking about a smoke give yourself some MILD negative reinforcement, like pinch your forearm enough to be uncomfortable, or drop for 20 pushups, just some mild negative reinforcement your mind will associate with smoking. Do this EVERY time you think about a smoke. You are over the physical addiction in 4 days, its all psychological after that. It is actually pretty easy to quit smoking, they say it is hard to keep people smoking, but it is pretty easy. Congratulations, good luck, and if at first you don-t succeed don-t feel bad, just try again, and you will win.
What else do you like to do. Choose between your two favourite things.lol
i quit once, for 4 months. the patch made my cravings worse, no kidding! after i decided not to wear it anymore i felt much better. i-m about to quit again in 2 weeks. i have obtained wellbutrin (which is that mood stabilizing drug with the side effect of reduced cravings for cigarettes) and i think i-m going to keep herbal non-tobacco cigarettes around just in case. herbal cigarettes of course are still harmful (carbon monoxide, a million other chemicals..) but at least there-s no nicotine so i-m quitting 50% of it.
my dad has bin smokin 4 10 years and he has tryed 7 times and nothin worked then his doctor recomended that he use nicotine inhaler. it looks like a cigerate he would actually smoke it like a real cigarate for the affect lol!!!! but it worked for him i would suggest that u go to your doctor for more info. hes stopped for 2 months now
Stop buying cigarettes.
USE THE PATCH, its virtually impossible otherwise :)
cold turkey...come on you can do it, I have faith in you
You can buy packs of gum and chew it when you feel a sudden urge for a cigarette.
I have tried every method for sale and none worked. I finally broke down and went to my doc and got him to give me the Wellbutrin pills. They are working. I-m on day 7 of not smoking. I have some rough times but if I keep busy they pass and I-m fine. I chew straws and it helps. Something to do with that hand to the mouth action that-s so ingrained. I still would love to have a cigarette but the first 5 days were so awful I-m not smoking cuz I won-t go thru that ever again.

What would be the best way for me to quit smoking and start jogging? -

Okay...Here we go!

This is my theory and this is what works for me. Everyone is different so it may need to be adjusted to your own personal needs.

Energy In/Energy Out

Food Intake: 1,200 Per Day

One Pound equals 3,500 Calories

To loose one pound per day, You need to burn your food intake plus your one pound of fat

1,200 (intake) + 3,500 (Outtake) = 4,700 Calories Burn

You must burn at least 4,700 Calories everyday to loose one pound atleast. It is very easy to go up and beyond 4,700 calories each day.

Best way to do this is to track your progress on a calorie counter monitor watch. If you do it by the numbers you can loose the weight. It is just a matter of changing the way you think about weight loss.

Once you start wearing your calorie counter you can see the numbers increase and you fill find yourself doing extra things in your day, like tapping your foot while witing at the light in your car, chewing gum, singing outloud and so on ontop of your workout routines. You begin to see that everything you do in your day contributes to the overall numbers needed to loose that pound.

I myself have done this recently. Two weeks later, I lost one pant size and 10 pounds.

I personally burn 1,000 calories by Walking in my community for one hour in the morning and I also burn 1,000 calories by simply playing xbox while playing tetrus. I get so involved in playing xbox that I completely forget I am pedaling or working out. Think about it..How many hours have you spent playing video games..why not burn calories while you are doing it.

___

Water Intake/Less Storage

Most people do not get enough water in their system. Water is your body-s principal chemical component, comprising, on average, 60 percent of your weight. Every system in your body depends on water. For example, water flushes toxins out of vital organs, carries nutrients to your cells and provides a moist environment for ear, nose and throat tissues.

Lack of water can lead to dehydration, a condition that occurs when you don-t have enough water in your body to carry out normal functions. To determine if you are getting enough water use this simple formula.. Take your weight, for example 150 pounds and divide by 2. Take your answer which is 75 lbs and change it to ounces, in this case 75 ounces. That is how many ounces of water you need a day. Your body performs mostly on water. If you make sure you get enough water everyday your body will perform at top notch and your body will no longer have the cravings of junk food. You will have a better performing body system to help you work out and feel better thru out your day.

____

Good Food

My favorite things to eat:

Avacado Wraps

Simple: Low Carb Tortilla, Half Avacdo sliced, alpha sprouts, lettuce, soy bacon...Just wrap it up and eat. You can vary the things you put inside so long as you keep it to approx 4 or 5 items. You want to make sure they are fresh, low calorie and filling. Avacado and mushrooms can replace meats in your meal and still have great taste.

Special K Cereals are fantastic. They have that sweetness that one craves and is so good for you. Calories are low. Great for even just dinner.

First thing in the morning...A Glass of Chocolate Milk. Yup!! Chocolate Milk. We all crave that -got to have- item in the morning. Milk is the best thing you can have for yourself while working out. The chocolate (and you can use Carnation Instant Milk for this but I simply use Nestle dry mix) will give you that sweet -snack- that you need. If you give your body a little bit of it and its in a control way, you will not crave sweets and junk the rest of the day.

Lean Cusines

Fantastic food! Each meal is approx 180 t0 380 calories per box. So think about your calories. 1,200...You can still have several of these meals a day and still be under your intake requirements.

Its all amout the numbers and watching what you take in and what you burn out. And you know what..if you go over your 1,200 mark for food intake...thats okay...you simple up your total calories burned for the day by what you took it. So long as you burn off the over all calories to be more than your food intake. Just make sure you stick too it so you can reach your weight loss goals.

Fruits and Veggies

All you want on the schedule listed below.
Banana-s are my favorite. They are very filling and can make a meal all on their own.

____

Vitamins

My favorite is ONE A DAY WITH ENERGY...I am in love with this vitamin because I am just like everyone else who loves those quick fix energy drinks. But what people do not realise is that energy drinks can contain 120 to 440 calories in just ONE Can. If you think about it..That is HALF of your allowed calories for food intake. The best alternative I have found is One a day with energy vitamin. Easy to spot, it is packaged in a green label bottle. Just One vitamin a day will give you as much energy as approx. 1 1/2 cans of red bull...WITHOUT the calorie intake.
WoW..now your making progress already because you have made more room in your intake calories for actual healthy food.

_____

Soda/Carbination

Carbination is terrible for your system because it bloats your stomach. And when your stomach bloats, your jeans just don-t fit. You can drop one pant size simply by NOT drinking any carbinated drinks all together..Take away the bloat and you have instantly just made it one pant size lower. Besides, Sodas dehydrate you and with that One a Day Vitamin, you won-t need the Caffenie in the soda and it will also cut out those extra calories that you don-t need.
So remove that soda and the energy drinks and just think how much calories you just instantly removed from your daily intake. I normally consume what...four sodas and two energy drinks in one day...that is a total of .... 900 calories..Of what??? Nothing...Those are horrible calories and calories that can be replaced by food which will fuel your body for your day and your workouts.

____

Your Body

Your body is like a computer. You must program your body to do what it is suppose to do so it won-t crash and leave you with a virus. Your stomach is only the size of your fist. So think about it right now, Look at your hand and close your fist. Not very big is it. That is how much food you actually ONLY need to eat, each time you eat for every meal. If you eat anything more than that, you will stretch out your stomach which causes overeating and overweight.

What you need to do is eat every three hours, approx 5 to 7 times everyday around the same time. If you are always giving your body healthy and better food choices (the size of your fist) every three hours, your body will know you are giving it food. It will use that food properly. It will not go into starvation mode or store food away for later because it knows...it will get more in three hours. So what does your body do...it flushes everything out of your system because it doesn-t need it.. I Now knows...you wont- forget about it and that food is on its way.

____

Walking Buddy

This is the best thing especially for woman. Get a walking buddy. One hour everyday. Just think about how much talking, venting and laughing two woman can do together while walking and yup, you guessed it...it just burns more calories and reduces your stress. You now are more relaxed because you can talk and free yourself of whatever is frustrating you while getting into shape.

Is there a way I can quit smoking by using alternative methods? -

I-m looking to quit smoking for good. Can anyone tell me if there is a way I can do that with alternative or natural methods? I mean -FOR GOOD- but it-s very hard.
Yes.. try energy therapy. EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) is a drug free therapy that is easy to use and easy to learn. You can use it between therapist visits so anytime you crave a cigarette you can work on yourself.

EFT has amazing success with quitting smoking - as well as with other physical and emotional problems.

You can download a free manual from the EFT site.

Find out more info from these web sites... and good luck.. you can do it without having to have will power!
1 spoon of vinegar ,before going to sleep and a glass of water, for 30 days, daily chew gun...it works i was a smoker for 17 years good luck....or spend so much $ on itens that dont work.....good luck
The best way, I know of, is to think about all the things that you could better spend the money on.
Yes you can, Here is how :-

Homeopathic Treatment for Quitting Smoking :-

To reduce the craving; while discontinuing its use Tabacum 30, 4 hourly

Though addicted to tobacco; but cannot bear the odour of it Lobelia In Q(Mother Tincture) 4 hourly, 5 -10 drops

Great desire to smoke; tobacco heart; oppression of breathing as in asthma Caladium S 30, 4 hourly

To produce disgust for tobacco for habitual tobacco chewers Plantago Major 30, 4 hourly

Take the remedy which is similar to your symptoms. No side effects or complications if taken as directed, please do not exceed the given dosage and under any circumstances do not try to mix any remedies and avoid Chocolates, Mints, Coffee, Red Meat, Alcoholic and Carbonated drinks, Spicy Rich Food while taking any Homeopathic remedies, and keep the medicines away from direct sunlight, heat strong smells and perfumes and do not store them in the fridge.
Curing without any side effects or Complications Thats the Beauty of Homeopathic Medicine

Take Care and God Bless You !
The best way would be, question yourself why am i taking cigarette knowing that it kills.Try to love yourself and makr mind to leave it slowly that may help.i had similar problems but now i have almost quit.just 1 cigarette in 2-3 days time.before i used to have one packs/day.
some people use acupuncture, for addiction withdrawals but it is only as good as your will power.Good luck.
well you can try ayurvedic powder---Ashwagangha for quitting smoking, it really works and is good for the system..chek www.planetayurveda.com , write to MD Ayurvedic doctor---drvikramchauhan@yahoo.com for more help
Quitting is like fishing. It would be nice to get a big one on the first cast, but reality is that yo just keep working at it until you win. Then consider youself an addict...you are just working at having a longer interval between yr last ciggie and the next.,

Acupuncture works WITH diet changes. Remove caffiene, allchohol, red meat and wheta/sugar for one week prior to quitting. Notebook check off --talley ea cig to be sure no cig is totally automatic. Get rid of (not put away) all ashtrays. Use your nervopus energy to clean everything harboring that nasty cig smell.

Physuical addiction over quickly. psych can last for years ie keep your guard up. You can-t even have one puff. you will always be an addict, just a non smoking one.. God bless.
Believe it or not, New Sun carries a natural, Homeopathic spray that you spray under your tongue and relieves cravings. It actually works, although I didn-t think it would. It completely stopped all my cravings withing four days. It is reasonably priced too! It-s called Stop; or Quit...either way, the link is below. Check it out if you-re interested.

I quit smoking, is it okay but was wondering if it is okay to have an occasional cigar? -

Seriously, just 1 or 2 a month. I do really enjoy the taste and smell of tobaco. I like the thought of sitting on my back porch with a bottle of Cab frank and enjoying a smooth cigar. Would this be a bad thing?
you should definately try not to but 1 a month wont do serious damage to your health

congrats on quitting,

niyaz
I have been smoke free for 3 years now and have resisted the temptation for any kind of tobacco product, I recomend you do the same if you are serious about staying on the wagon. If you take just 1 drag off a cigar now the next time it will be 2 and the next 3 drags then it will be a whole cigar and before you know it you will be back to smoking again. The addicting chemicals in tobacco are so strong I still have the urge to light one up but for my health and my families health and the pride I have in saying I WON over smoking is reason I can hopefully help people like you.

Stay tough, say NO and be healthy and then be an example to those around you who need support too.
well if u ask if it is ok, obviously it is if u r an adult, for ur health, no it wouldnt be ok, but hey, it is all up to u!
nope just do it u only live once enjoy
Yes - it is fine.

People don-t seem to realize that cigars are not addicting like cigarettes are - those are nothing more than nicotine delivery sticks.
You quit, you want to start again? No way! Not even for an occasional cigar, cigarette, any tobacco product! I just quit in the past two months and I wouldn-t go back for anything. But just my opinion...If I were you I would tell myself no way I don-t need them.
Yes, that is fine. Cigars are not inhaled and there is not the same nicotine-addiction factor. People don-t smoke cigars for nicotine, it-s for the taste. It will not make you want to go back to cigarettes.
I quit smoking, is it okay but was wondering if it is okay to have an occasional cigar? -

How can i quit smoking.........need ur help? -

Hi,Every one.
I am smoking from last 10 years one pack a day,Please help me in quitting.i really dont know what to do, every one ask me for the will power but it didnt work for me, any diffrent idea or idea-s.
Thanks
I went to a smoking ceseation class and we learned what our -triggers- are. Everyone that smokes have them. These are simply things or habits that you have that make you smoke. If you keep a little log for about 3 days and write down the time and what you were doing when you smoke, you will notice that you have a pattern. For instance, everytime the telephone rang, I reached for a cig... everytime the car engine started I reached for a cig... everytime I woke up in the morning I had a cig... You will have patterns too. After you identify these, just replace the cig with gum or something else... have the -something- ready so that when your trigger occurs, you can substitute something and not smoke. Smoking is really just a bad HABIT and HABITS are hard to break but it can be done. Good Luck!
Cold turkey. Repeat this mantra everyday - SMOKING CAUSES
CANCER. You may even meditate before you go to sleep and in the morning after you wake up by repeating the mantra. Please note patience is the key. You will arrive there sooner or later. Subconsciously you would build up your will power like Nopoleon Bonaparte did while gazing the river.
I usually do not regret things in my life.. yet the only constant regret is my every day smoking not knowing how to quit.

Sorry.. and best of luck
sure fire way, worked for me. Take one cig out of pack and let it sit for about a month. Make yourself smoke it, the entire thing. This will cause you to be nauseas and give u a headache. U wont want it again
Candy and gum help some people. There are over-the-counter patches and gum especially made for this. Examine your day-to-day routine. What are your trigger factors? Are there things you can avoid all together or things that you can modify to make a cigarette less tempting? Do you just like it because in certain situations it-s calming, you have nothing else to do, or it makes you -feel cool-? If you find your central reasons for smoking are any or all of the last three, ask yourself what is more important your life, breath, or smoking.
well, I quit smoking 4 years ago.... but prior to that I was smoking a pack and a 1/2 for 9 years.. I tried to quit numerous times, but nothing worked!! finally I knew I had to do it and I realized that I couldn-t quit before because deep down I liked to smoke and I think that is the problem with most people who say they want to quit. They say it but they truly don-t mean it.. After that I quit cold turkey and it could not have been easier, surprisingly cigarettes never even crossed my mind again...so .......If you truly deep down want to quit, you will... you do have the will power! you are not weak! just believe in yourself!!......
OK first of all my mom smokes and i hate it so if the first thing you do is go and buy on of those pills that says -quit smoking in 3 days-. Yeah right, well the first thing you have to do is trow every single pack you have in your house make sure not a single cigar is left trust me you will thank me, immediately after you trow them you will want to go and buy more, don-t do that instead go and, shop or be on the computer or something like that or maybe you can play, Nintendo or something i don-t know but anyway. So then after that you will have to buy some candy-s whichever, Lollipops, golyranchers or anything small that will last, then when you go to work grave a hand full of the candy-s and then eat them whenever you have, the anisette to smoke, and after that and a couple of months and good dedication to it I-m sure you will stop smoking.
O and one more thing if you keep smoking one pack a day you will surly kill yourself at your 40-s of lung cancer.
Sincerely Paco
P.S. If the candies aren-t enough do some exercise like running punching the punching bag e.t.c
I have never smoked but my brother has smoked for 23 yrs. He had to quit about 3 months ago due to a heart attack. He found a product at
http://www.healthfitusa.net
and said that it was unbelievable while using it how easy it was to quit.
Put It this Way If you Dont you will Die a long death Buy Nicotene Or see a doctor
Everyday smoke a little less and soon you won-t be hooked. Try chewing gum everytime that you want one, I heard that it can help.

I like cigerettes, but my boyfriend doesnt smoke and his grandma died from breathing problems, after 45 years of smoking! Any ideas how I can cheer up by quitting smoking... I know it bothers him even if he doesnt say so!!!
ask your doctor for Chantix.
Try chantix. Its a new medication on the market. Ask your doctor for a prescription. Its great. I quit smoking off of it. Its a 1 month treatment. Ive been smoke free for 2 months and you can be 2. good luck to yeah. its hard but you can do it.
If you-ve tried to quit and were unable to, maybe you can try Chantix

While I don-t advocate medication taking in general, I think that with a really bad habit like smoking you will be better off quitting sooner rather than later.

Good luck!

PS: And to the previous answerer, that-s uncalled for. Stopping smoking is one of the best things you can do for yourself!
Try to get more information regarding some ways to stop smoking at my profile.
Hello, You don-t say how long you have smoked but here goes. I was a heavy smoker for 50 yrs. The last 20 yrs I have tried every method known and had ZERO success. April of 07 I talked with a Doctor and he put me on a pill called -Chantix-.. I only took it for 10 days because it was making me sick but I havent had a cigarette since and never will have.. Please see a Doctor and have them explain Chantix to you.

I have been smoking for too long and lately I have been smoking like a chimney! LOL I really need to quit. Does anyone have any advice?
First congrats on ur decision to improve your quality of life.

I smoked for 20 yrs 1 pack a day.....I quit 4 mths ago and have not touched one even in the most stressful times I did not go back to the old habit.

I tried everything in the past, patches, gum and cold turkey. This time I went to my doctor. He prescribed Chantix. I know there has been alot of bad press about this drug lately but I had no problems with it. I really think it depends on the individual in regards to the side effects. If you really want to quit I suggest you at least give it a try. It worked great for me.

Good luck
Ive been smoking since late 2005 i was up to smoking almost a pack a day sometimes a pack and a half a day if i was with friends who smoked alot. One day i decided i was wasting alot of money so i just decided to quit. Might not work for you, 7 people work at the lab im at and of the 7 people 4 of them smoke. so its tough but i realy think since im still inhaling second hand smoke i guess you could say thats actually helping to curb my need to smoke.

Good luck and quit for yourself not for others.
Hey Trueblue!

Smoking is a nasty habit, but its one of the hardest habits to kick. Coming from a former smoker, I know - I used to smoke almost 2 packs a day!

A friend of mine forwarded me this ebook that he got that really helped me. It was written by a former smoker and addresses the excuses smokers have about not wanting to quit AND the -perceived fears- smokers have about a life without cigarettes. Its an awesome book and you can download it for free. Definitely worth checking out:

You have to be prepared mentally. The physical addiction can last a few days, but the mental addiction can last forever. You can help yourself by using a product designed to help people quit

http://www.havetoquitsmoking.com/quit-sm…

Ask your doctor.
My mom, as well as a few of her friends have quit smoking. Its some pill that you take for about a month. but i forget what it-s called.

She asked her doctor and he recommended whatever it is and it worked.
I tried everything for the longest time.... at some point you just have to -man up- and just stop..... it sucks for a few days but you will feel SOOOOOO much better later on
I work for a smoking cessation team and I-ll tell you that the BEST way to quit smoking is to pair both some sort of counseling along with nicotine replacement therapy...that will bring you the greatest likelihood of success. Many hospitals have smoking cessation groups that are either free or only cost about $20. Cutting back your nicotine with products such as the nicotine patch will help you get over the cravings little bits at a time. If you try -cold turkey- I-m not saying that you won-t be able to accomplish your goal...but most people can-t bear the withdrawl symptoms long enough to overcome them. The average physiological dependence on nicotine can be broken in 3 days...after that point your addiction is more psychological..which is where things like habit come into play. Think about where you smoke, when you smoke, why you smoke, and what you can do to change those things. If you like to smoke with your coffee in the a.m., try another beverage until you break the habit. If you smoke because of stress, try some deep breathing exercises before going out for a cigarette; you might get the calm down that you need.

Nicotine replacement therapy is a good substitute for smoking when trying to cut back (instead of smoking fewer and fewer cigarettes) because there is only one chemical in NRT: nicotine. There are thousands of chemicals in cigarettes that aren-t addictive that you should be avoiding. The patch, for example, releases a constant stream of nicotine into your system so that you don-t experience a nicotine withdrawl...it is a small amount all throughout the day rather than a quick burst of nicotine with each cigarette drag. Another good thing about the patch is that, if worn at night, you won-t wake up with a craving (especially important for folks who smoke in bed) because you are getting nicotine all night instead of going 6-8 hours w/out any nicotine at all. The patch is in steps to help you cut back, but slowly so you don-t have to worry about withdrawls. There are health restrictions, of course, and you CANNOT smoke w/the patch under any circumstances. Nicotine overdose is a very serious thing.

Another option that you could talk to your dr. about is Chantix. This drug helps block the receptors in the brain that nicotine stimulates to release dopamine into your system and give you that -feel good- feeling. It will help you so that when you go to take a smoke, it isn-t a wonderful thing that you can-t get enough of.

Having counseling is good because it helps you help yourself. Perhaps -counseling- has a bad ring to it...think of it more as a point of accountability. If you know you have someone other than yourself to feel almost responsible to, you think twice before -quitting quitting-. Also, the counselor doesn-t tell you what to do. They help you find your own solutions to problems and can give suggestions.

Don-t ever feel like a failure if you try to quit and don-t at first. Many people try to quit 7-10 times before they do successfully. Instead of focusing on not being able to quit, focus on what things were positive while you were off tobacco. What were your strengths? What weaknesses can you improve upon next time?

Good luck to you!!
Be resolved that you want to quit, I mean REALLY committed.

Set a date to quit, the prepare for that date.

Get rid of all the ashtrays.

Think of some hobbies that will keep your hands and mind busy when a craving hits you.

Get a bunch of straws and sip water frequently. It helps flush the nicotine and diminishes the oral aspect of your craving.

When you crave, do deep breathing, suck the air in as you would if you were inhaling a drag. Part of our addiction is the relaxation effect you get as you smoke. Slow deep breathing helps to relax the chest and back muscles and relieves tension. It will help trick your mind into feeling satisfied.

Change your routine. eg. If you have cigs while you sit getting ready in the morning, change that habit and get ready standing up, preferably in a different room. Addiction is driving by triggers. When your brain recognizes a familiar smoking situation, it sends the -SMOKE NOW!- craving. You have to break those triggers down and reprogram your brain.

Don-t hang out with friends/family if they-re smoking for at least 3 months, longer if you can manage it. Your cravings will come in waves for months or years. They get further apart and less intense as time passes, but can blind side you into starting again if you don-t anticipate them.

DON-T HAVE EVEN ONE PUFF after you quit. That part of your brain that says -One puff won-t hurt me-, is the addicted part of your brain trying to trick you into feeding the addiction.

Shampoo your carpets, wash curtains and any other fabric surfaces in your home, bedding, clothes, etc. Wash down the walls in the rooms you smoked most too.

The residual smell of the smoke can trigger cravings. Also, if you do a major clean you can use that to combat your cravings. When you have a craving think, -I didn-t work that hard just to have to do it all over again when I have to quit again-.

Positive reinforcement is essential. Give yourself rewards for milestones. Treat yourself to something at specific intervals, like 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, a year... Make the rewards things that help motivate you to stay smoke free.

Avoid stressful people and situations for the first 3 months, if at all possible.

If you can, take a week off work, so you don-t use the stress of the job as an excuse to smoke. Also, having used a week of vacation to quit creates an investment in the process. Use that to beat the cravings with repeated mind speak, like - I-m not going to waste a week of vacation, I WILL DO THIS!-

Get out and walk or exercise as much as you can. It will help with the mental image of a healthier you, while actually making you a healthier you.

Ultimately it begins and ends with your resolve to quit. As your get closer to your set quit date, imagine a smoke free, happy, healthier you. Get a really solid mental image of yourself as a non-smoker and pull that image up as many times a day as you can stand. This will help A LOT to reprogram your mind and defeat future cravings. When a craving pops up, that smoke free mental image of yourself will be easy to access and use to defeat the craving.

Plan ahead and be committed and you-ll beat this!

BEST OF LUCK TO YOU :D

I quit smoking 6 weeks ago and the left side of my chest hurts when I take deep breaths? -

I-ve recently found out that my sister in law has active tuberculosis. She found out a couple weeks ago. i don-t come in contact with her very much but i have indeed come in contact with her a few times this year and she has hugged me and kissed me on the cheek a couple times. anyways, i-ve quit smoking cigarettes about 6 weeks ago, and for the last couple days the left side of my chest has been hurting whenever i take in a deep breath. it-s a pretty annoying, sharp pain and i-m very scared that it might be a symptom of TB but ive been told that it could just be my lungs healing from my quitting smoking. I-d love it if someone could put my mind at ease here. Also, the left side of my chest is sensitive to the touch. Basically where it hurts, is right around where my heart is, towards the upper part of my chest. Another thing, is if i sit or stand up more straight, it doesn-t hurt when i breath in deeply, and sometimes it doesn-t hurt everytime I take in a deep breath. Please help!
Just because you have been in contact with your sister in law means you have been exposed to TB and likely will test positive as a carrier not as an active case. You can go to your doctor and he can put uyou on prophylactic treatment. The deep breath pain could be a number of things, from a pulled muscle to plurisy (Inflammed lining in the chestwall) to pneumonia. Are you coughing alot? Coughing can cause a muscle to be pulled giving you that pain when inhaling. Did you fall? Kudos to quitting smoking you will feel alot better.

I quit smoking 10 weeks ago and am still coughing up gross dark flem... Should I be worried? -

I smoked since I was 16.... I am 34 now...
I quit 8 months ago, i only smoked for 4 years, I still get black in my flem
Congratulations for you.
Coughing up gross stuff is normal after stopping smoking and it can even happen after you cut way back but still smoke. The way my doctor explained it to me is that your lungs are filtering the toxins that you are taking in from smoking, You develop the smokers cough that is actually helping your body get ride of these toxins, After cutting way down on cigarette intake or you stop smoking the cough starts cleaning up your lungs even faster. This can last up to a year depending on how long and how heavy you smoked. Again Congratulations...
If you have been coughing up the same gross dark flem since- long time you might not be worried .But if it is of recent origin you must consult your physician. It could be a bacterial infection .In the former case probably it is a chronic condition and might resolve gradually , though it would be better if you visit a doctor because smoker-s cough usually does not produce gross dark flem .
i think you should be worried i have an on going study about that,my
mother has stopped for a bout a year and my father still dose and he suffer from that and it can be signs of early long cancer or T.B.
so your best bet is to get that checked out just cause im young doesn-t mean I-ma dumb take my advice;)
i would get a physical and make sure your body is in the condition it should be. I would be worried but then again it could be your body trying to get all the nasty stuff out of it that was in there from smoking all those years
But i would still go to a doctor its better to be safe then sorry
Maybe you should see a doctor to be safe. However, my dad coughed up a bunch of dark flem for about 1-2 months when he quit smoking, then he stopped.

Congratulations on quitting.
You smoked for a really long time, it happens. Good job quitting, though.

You might want to call your doctor or make an appointment simply to check out your lung function. Coughing up phlegm is unfortunately a side effect and may not go away.
well its one of two things ur body is refhresing all the lost tissue and has to get it out somehow hence u cough black gunk wich in most cases is mucus around the lungs and or the outer layer of the lungs themselves or two u have an infection either way consult ur docotr i am only a nurse
I-m not a doctor, but anything you are worried about you should get it checked out. This does sound serious, although I am not a doctor.

Good luck! I hope everything is okay
Don-t worry, your lungs are cleaning themselves out. Once the majority of the tar and stuff in your lungs is gone, the flem will subside.
Nah, it-s going to take a while. It-s a part of the process, and a not a very fun one at that.
Yes, you should be worried. Im not experienced in anything like that really. But you should tell your doctor.

good luck!
I would worry if it continues for a while. However, your body is ridding itself of all the build-up in your lungs. Congrats on quitting!
Your lungs are just regenerating and getting rid of all the built up junk in there. It-s a good thing.
Yes. You should go to the doctor. It-ll get worse if you don-t do anything about it.
Yes ... see your Dr ASAP!!
if it carrys on then yes!

What is the best way to quit smoking? -

Don-t feel bad about not being able to quit through going cold turkey or by cutting down. Cutting down doesn-t work because it gives nicotine the power, not the other way around. The vast majority will fail to quit using these methods.

Smoking is more of a psychological addiction than a physical one. If you really want to quit you must discover the reasons why you smoke and then eliminate or change these thought processes.

Once you deal with the psychological side of smoking it makes the quitting process easy, no matter your level of addiction.

Quitting smoking does not require any patches, gums, hypnosis or anything like that. These methods are expensive, time consuming and simply do not work. All that is required is a bit of motivation, self belief and determination.

Visit our blog for more information and to download our free book.

Good Luck and Good Quitting

First check with your local Health Department - many have good programs to help you. A friend went to ours for 8 weeks and
when he graduated - he got $$$ and a certificate and feels great.
Course his mouth was dry - taking medication - he learned to
eat candy and gained a few pounds, but he is breathing better
and he-s saving money he never had not buying smokes.

You can do it. Set you a goal - you can cut down each day
until you no longer care for one. The problem is being around
friends who do smoke. Take up knitting helps too!
I also did cold turkey. I had smoked for over 15 years and I have not smoked for now 15 years. Yes if you do the math I am 48. But I will tell you it depends on your stress level and your willingness to stop. With all the cool stuff that is out there check with your Dr. I know that is not really what you want to hear, but check.
I set a date (two weeks out) and sort of slowed down slightly then just quit cold turkey. It sucked for a bit, but it-s been 11 years and i-m still a non-smoker. Your doctor can help. I used to envision myself with some awful kind of throat cancer when i got the urge to light up and that helped
The patch works well but also investigate the use of self hypnosis. This has worked for a lot of people!

What is the best way to quit smoking? -

Trying to quit smoking...Anyone ever used the patch, gum, etc.? Do they work? Am afraid of gaining weight.? -

Trying to quit smoking...Anyone ever used the patch, gum, etc.? Do they work? Am afraid of gaining weight.? -

Why do people have weight gain when they quit? I have tried to quit several times, and have not been able to for more than a few days. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am astmatic and know it is bad for me to be smoking, but it is so hard to stop.
I have used both the patch and the gum. They both work, but I like the patch best. The reason I like it better than the gum is for the same reason you tend to gain weight.

Tobacco use is an oral gratification event as well as a chemical response. Putting the thing (cigarrette, chewing tobacco etc) in your mouth is part of the ritual. When you stop doing it, it helps break the cycle that way. However, you might take to putting other things there (e.g. food). There-s also the chemical thing...nicotine is a stimulant, tends to curb hunger.

The patch is a non-ritualistic method. Put it on, that-s it...the gum has its own little ritual of getting it and chewing it. I would recommend the patch.

Try to exercise more too while attempting the quit. Helps with the withdrawl symptoms (if you get them) and also helps you replace bad habits with better ones. If you can get hooked on the exercise instead, all the better.

While you are doing this, try to avoid ALL things you did when you would smoke. Don-t drink, don-t go to bars or smoking sections of restaraunts, don-t hang out with friends that smoke a lot...at least for the first month. Don-t avoid it entirely but don-t do them regularly.

Good luck, I hope you make it out!
If your going to quit make sure you have HEALTHY snacks around. You-re only going to gain weight if you eat junk food. Just watch what you-re eating...I know you-ll have the -oral fixation- going on. Also, take up some hobbies to keep you occupied. For example: Knitting, quilting, scrap-booking, misc. crafts, etc... The gum is somewhat helpful, but I always caved in! Never tried the patch yet. I know people who have and they have been successful, some not. It-s all on will power pretty much.

Good luck!

When I was a teen ,I wanted to fit in and be cool.
Television ads were Rampant back then. The ads even implied it made you look sexy, relieved tension ,and tasted good.
Well it took 33 years to KICK the habit .I did hypnotism ,gums ,cold turkey and Nic o ban .The latter tasted awful. I finally asked my doctor and she gave me Zy-ban ,I made up my mind to quit. The last cigarette was on June 23rd 1998.I Will Not Go Back. I am PROUD of ME.

My LIFE and EXPERIENCES.
Well, then don-t quit. Even with healthy snacks you-ll probably chow down enough to stop the cravings. But think about it, after a month or so, the cravings should be dulled to a dim thought and you can hit the gym extra hard. And breathe clean as an added bonus!
SMOKING IS THE HARDEST THING TO QUIT!!! GOOD LUCK!! BUT FOR ME THE FAMILY WAS THE BEST SUPPORT! AND THE GUM IS GREAT!! BEST WISHES!!! PS- I DIDNT GAIN ANY WEIGHT!!
Why the gain? B/c they are accostomed to having something in their mouth, so if it isn-t a cig it is some sort of food... and often it is a sweet treat.

I know of some who have tried the laser therapy with good and bad results.

I know of some who have tried the hypnosis route, but few with good results.

Gum and patch can work.

You should make an appointment with your doctor and see what he/she suggests.

For some cold turkey works, for others reduction (smoking 1 less per day until you are not smoking anymore) works better.
Using the patch or gum helps with the physical cravings. Remember that the physical addiction only lasts 3-4 days, after that it is all mental addiction. Best things to do when quitting: Stop on a weekend. Gives you time to adjust before having to concentrate. Eliminate patterns where you used to smoke. Smoke with coffee? then switch to tea for a while. If you usually smoke in one room or one chair, avoid that place for a while. Also remember a craving lasts only about 5 minutes. If you can make it past that 5 minutes, you will feel better.
Most people gain weight, because nicotine causes the intestines to absorb less nutrients and calories. Traditionally, people will gain weight the first 3 months, but then the weight tends to recede some.
good Luck!
I-ve heard that if you like to drink water that every time you crave one drink a glass actually even better if you don-t like water that way you-d get sick of drinking it. That is what a read in a paper on a class they was having.
Good luck to you . I quit 3 years ago and I used the patch and pill at the same time . One is for nerves and the patch is of course nicotine . I am doing well now but not a day goes by that I don-t crave one . You can do it if I can
Good luck
I-m 38 and quit smoking 8 years ago. I did go on the patch for two months (i.e. two different levels/strengths of Nicoderm patches). Didn-t try the last and third month. Only reason I did try the patch was that I got them for free through a hospital.
Best advice I got was to fix a date a month away. Then until that date to keep changing the brand every week to progressively lesser tar/nicotine cigarettes, without increasing the number of cigarettes or the manner of smoking. This helps in breaking the auto smoking action and consciously prepares you every time you light up. The first few days are the hardest. The patch will only help with the physical craving part, its the other small things that are difficult too. Hope I-m making sense. Best of luck.
people(women gain normally about five punds when they quit. Its because you dont get rid of the habbit, you just replace it with another, there for some people eat. Or chew gum, mints...i-ll quit with you. Its just so unheathly
I QUIT 10 YEARS AGO. I HAD SMOKED OVER 20 YEARS. I USED THE GUM AND IT HELPED ME ALOT. IT WAS FAR FROM EASY BUT THE GUM REALLY HELPED ME THROUGH THE ROUGH TIMES DON-T WORRY ABOUT PUTTING ON SOME WEIGHT ONCE YOU ARE COMFORTABLE NOT SMOKING YOU CAN TAKE THE WEIGHT OFF AND YOU WILL FEEL SO MUCH BETTER. AFTER 3 MONTHS I NEVER EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT SMOKING. LOTS OF LUCK!!!
dont quit
you should start with gum. the healthy snax is a good idea. smoking with asthma is nutz... do yourself a favor and quit.

How do I support my husband who is trying to quit smoking? -

I am not sure how I go about supporting him during this hard time. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Serious answers only please.
Support him and don-t nag at him. Encourage him not to drink caffeine, to take a lot of vitamin c daily, and to drink a lot of water. Suggest to him to avoid smokers for awhile because their lighting up will stimulate his need to smoke. Suggest also that he carry something he can suck on to ease the need for putting something into his mouth after eating or when he takes breaks and at those times he would normally reach for a cigarette.

The big thing is to help him change his behavior without making it seem that you-re pushing him. He needs to feel your support and needs to believe that you-re trying to help him more than trying to keep him on the straight and narrow.

I hope this helps.
Tell your husband to ask his doctor about Wellbutrin. It helped me quit. I have been smoke free since August 2004. I tried everything before that and failed. Also, help by encouraging him to stay away from alcohol and coffee. They were definite triggers for me.
Just keep reminding him of the benefits and if he thinks he needs a cigarette, do stuff to keep his mind off of it.
give him your honest support..when he seems wanting to have smoke..offer him any food(his favorite) or give him a candy or gum instead
Reinforce his behavior when he doesn-t smoke, such as giving him a nice reward for each day he stays clean. Be sensitive to his needs. Throw away all of his cigarettes and hide the lighters. Be strict in monitoring if he smokes by smelling him when he gets home. If he smells like some sort of freshener spray, maybe you should get suspicious.
Just encourage him and don-t use any -you statements- that could sound accusing.
Just say -Hey, wanna cigarette? Mmmmm smells good doesn-t it?-
just be there for him , and understand when he has mood swings that , it will get better.good luck, and God Bless.
Just remember that if he gets upset or angry, it-s probably the withdrawl that is making him so cranky. When he does get cranky (and believe me, he will), don-t yell at him back.
If you smoke yourself, try and quit as well. That means no packs around the house. Try and convert his cravings for cigarettes into cravings for sports or sex or things you and him might like doing.

Convince him that your family would be happier in a smoke-free house and that your kids would benefit from him quitting in the long run.
cut him some slack. Fix his favorite meal and leave him alone! Let him take 50 naps for the next week if he needs too. He may get cranky with you but remember that it is the nicotine withdraw and not to argue back. Let him win the arguements. Don-t create any stress with him. Just for a week! DON-T NAG!!!! if he lights back up don-t say anything. He will feel just as bad lighting up and he doesn-t want you reminding him.

My friends dad is trying to quit smoking; what can help him? -

hes a father of 4, and its really hard on his whole family. is there anything that can help him quit?

thanks
Chantix is the best medication to use. My husband is on it now and has not had any cravings since starting it. He had tried everything and nothing worked until this.
Let him tell his family that he is are quitting. Each time he want to buy a cigar, tell him to think of DEATH - leaving his family...Let him throw away cigar, lighters and ashtrays etc..these wont be necessary. Each time he feels to smoke tell him speak to someone his woman eg..and remind him that he is setting a bad eg for his children..-i these words help in some way-....
.
There is medication that he can get if he is really desperate but everything else I know of is over the counter, like the gum.
nicotine gum or nicotine patch.
nicotine patches, chewing gum, massage chair
Gummy lifesavers! Or nicotine free ciggarettes.
Well there is gum, patches, and also Chantix which is a pill you stay on for about 12 weeks. Most insurance companies don-t cover Chantix and it-s about $120 per month. Best of luck.
I-ve heard of a book. I-ll try to find it.....

The book doesn-t tell the person why to quit, it just describes what smoking does and it has worked for many people. After the book is read the people just don-t want to smoke anymore. like I said, I-ll try to find it and I-ll post it as an edit to this answer when I do.
I used Chantix...quit a 43 yr. addiction!
Will power. As with quitting any kind of addiction, you MUST want to stop, that is the key.
Acupuncture!! I don-t know how or why but it really does work!!
There are many ways and like most things not all will work for every one. The patch, gum and pills work for some. Get into a stop smoking group at least, go for walks, substitute, say candy, but watch not to over do that. and yes acupuncture does work.

Urgent Help Needed. I am searching for a Anti-Nicotine chemicals or substance for Quit Smoking? -

I want to know about anti-nicotine chemicals or medicine to cure myself to quit smoking. Due to habit of smoking. I have tried so many time to quit, but can-t succeed. I have tried all the options like alternate of smoking by chewing gum, chocolates, controlling myself on craving, thinking about something else. But nothing could be worked, So finally I am searching for Anti-Nicotine substance to take out a nicotine from my body and blood. Please Help. Your suggestions would be appreciated. Please Give me a solution. Thanks in Advance.
There is a prescription medication called Zyban (wellbutrin). You take 150 mg once daily x 3 days then increase to twice daily for 7 - 12 weeks. You set a date to stop smoking one week after you start taking the drug. It helps reduce cravings.
Have you heard of the new prescription called -Chantix?- I have just started taking it myself! You take the medicine and smoke for one week, then quit smoking but continue to take the pills as directed. It is rather expensive (my 1st 12 wk. prescription was about $117.) It is recommended to continue 12 more wk., and another 12 wks. I believe. I am hoping it works. You might look into this product. I have 2 friends who were able to quit with -Chantix.- Good luck! My doctor-s nurse also told me there is a high success rate with their patients on this product.
I, too, had tried quitting a million times (at least it seems like that many!). One week ago I began a course of Chantix (a nicotine receptor blocker) and lost the cravings in TWO days! Whenever I think about smoking, the thought passes quickly (under a minute). I have no anxiety or agitation as I did when I tried to quit before. I attended a party yesterday where all the guests smoked, and I had no desire to smoke. My doctor was right when he said, -this stuff is AMAZING!-. My insurance paid 60%; WAY cheaper than a month-s worth of cigarettes.
depending on where you live in the UK there are plenty of places to go for help as the national health service is doing a sterling job in helping people quit, if you-re in the USA then maybe you could try a nicotine patch?
Well if you are just looking to detox, you can drink a detoxifying tea. Getting the nicotine out of your system isn-t going to make the cravings go away. Honestly the only thing that worked for me was leaving my house and not taking my cigarettes with me. I would take a couple hits, and usually smoke about 2 cigarettes a day. It was hard for about a week but after that it got really easy. You sort of just forget about it. And also I found it hard when I needed to fill that 2 minutes it took me to smoke the cigarette, so I would call a friend and just hold the cigarette and basically pretend to smoke it, that helped with the oral fixation part.

I know many people that quit using chewing tobacco. I wouldn-t advise it, but it worked for them. One was my father who smoked 3 packs a day for about 40 years.

OTC meds may help. Welbutrin also helps. It-s an anti depressant that pretty much makes you stop smoking too.
Good luck.

How can I quit smoking? -

I am glad to have you ask that question because doing that is one of the best gifts you can give yourself. There are many over the counter things you can buy - patches, gum, etc. There is also hypnosis. All these have helped people stop smoking, You really have to want to stop before any of these things can help you. I tried all these but nothing worked for me until my doctor prescribed Chantix. I have now been off the smokes since Aug. For me it is really to late but for you the damage they have done is minimal. Don-t forget nobody wants to hug someone with smoke smell in their hair and clothes and nobody wants to kiss an ashtray. Good luck!
Starting from today set a rule of not smoking after 7PM. In a week make it after 6PM. In another week after 5PM. That provide you with precious hours a day that you don-t smoke and will teach you that it ain-t too bad to spend time not smoking. Your body needs only 1 cig a day, the rest is a mental addiction not physical. Once you-re down to not smoking after 11 am, it will become really easy to quit completely.
i know 5 people that used chantix - it only worked for 1
the rest either just started smoking again or had such horrible side effects that they had to stop taking the pill

fist off you really need to want to quit - if you-re doing it for someone else or because you think you should it probably won-t take
patches do help - though they can give bad dreams so don-t leave them on at night
the gum works for some - but you have to use it right - don-t chew it like normal gum - just enough to break it up and then stick it in between your teeth - cheek so the nicotine can get into your bloodstream...

good luck
Watch yourself smoking in a mirror. Does that look like the image you want the world to see? People at work?school? They will age your skin much faster and you will look older sooner. Just throw them away and commit yourself to not smoking even if your body wants one. Your body is lying to you, it doesn-t Need nicotine. And the farther you get away from smoking the easier it is to see that. You look like a strong person.
God bless and help you with this.
Depending on what state you live in there are programs to help you quit. In New York they have the New York Smokers Quit Line which give out information as well as free patches. Your health insurance may also cover quit smoking products and support groups.

Best of luck to you!
there are some pills but i totally forgot what they are called. my uncle used them for 1 or 2 months and he hasnt smoked for like a year or 2. the leftover pills he gave to my brother in law and he has smoke maybe a pack in the last 3 weeks. they do wonders if i find it i will just edit this.
my boyfriend got this prescription from his doctor for -Chantix-. seems to be working pretty good on him. they-re kind of expensive even with insurance. i don-t know about where you live but i know where i live, the lady at the health department said they give them out to people who can-t afford them.
for your information...

stopping smoking is not somewhere outside.. i for instance is a smoker.. i have been smoking for 5,6 years,... and i just left smoking as i had a real fear of death in my mind.. i stopped smoking from august 2008 and till this april 3rd i was not smoking at all.. and this happened on 4th of april.. i was having adrink with my friend.. and he offered me a smoke.. which i wud generally avoid.. earlier.. accepted that day.. and i started smoking as if i have never left smoking...

so smoking s not a habit as people think.. it is only an event.. if you want to stop smoking .. dont think about it.. and when you really have the urge to smoke.. just say yourself this one time -i willNOT smoke.-

i was able to stop smoking just because i really had the fear of succumbing to cancer.....

so it is all in your mind.. your mind can do what is good for you if you really think you must do it!

be strong in your mind.. think of the negative things you would end up with if u continued smoking..

gud luk to stop smoking..

3 things u shall do ..
1.avoid places where u smoke.. like a smoking joint..
2.avoid persons who will encourage u to smoke..
3. tell every one you know that- U HAVE STOPPED SMOKING - this will make ur ego understand that if u smoke again that thall the words of all those who laughed at you saying -u can never- true, correct..

diver urself in any other activity u like .. when u feel to smoke.
SMOKE ENOUGH TO DIE!

Or you can always get addicted to something else. id start reaching for cough drops instead of cigarettes. those are way easier to ween yourself off of.

To EX-smokers, did any of you actually LOSE weight after you quit smoking?? -

all I hear about is people who gain weight
I just quit smoking 3 days ago.
Last yr. I lost 25 pds. but mostly it was lost actually b4 I went back to the dreadful habit, which now I have quit again
well I walked 3.5-5 miles a few times every week.
do you think if I just increase my walking habit that perhaps I-ll probably only gain 5 pds.??
I eat a lot of apples and salads, regular meals too
Good for you!! Congratulations!!

I quit smoking 7 years ago and I didn-t lose weight but I didn-t gain any either.

I hear the problem becomes when people who quit smoking start eating more because they-re used to taking something to their mouth, so they use snacks and candy to fulfill the need for that.

If you make an effort and don-t do that, or eat something like celery or carrots instead of fattening things, you won-t have any problem.

And of course, keep walking. That-s one of the best exercises.

Keep telling yourself how much you hate smoking, what a disgusting smell that is.. brainwash yourself and you won-t go back to the habit.

Right now I simply detest it and can-t be close to anybody who smokes.

Good luck!!!!!!
.
I thought you GAIN weight when you quit...
Since I started to work out I was looking for a good weight loss product. I was on a diet but I felt that I needed a little -help- so I decided to try this great product and I had fantastic results. You can check their website at
http://www.greathealthyes.info , they give you a free trial and you only pay 5.49$ shipping and handling.
I lost 20 pounds when I first quit smoking. For me, it was because I wasn-t eating very well, I was still craving the cigarettes. I mostly chewed gum or was eating those yummy butterscotch candies!!
Quitting is hard enough, let alone worrying about your weight when you do so. The best thing to do (advice from my doctor) is to excercise and eat healthy and you-ll be fine.
Good luck and take care!
