Quit smoking? -
Is there any way to quit smoking? Plz advice?
Everything should begin with YOU! Are you ready to quit? We have a lot of oproducts in the market which claims they are effective when you want quit smoking. Some are candies which you chew when you got the feeling of smoking. That-s one thing. Although it-s really hard since you still have to undergo through the withdrawal syndrome, if you are really serious about quitting, you could do it.
JUST MAKE UP YOUR MIND
prepare ur mind, u will quit smokin, dnt let ur mind be the slave of smokin.
Step # 1 you need a very strong reason to quit
Mine was the tax ($30 a carton) was going to pay for pre-pre-school and only smokers were going to pay for it.
I quit by reducing the number of cigs I smoked in a day, until I got below 1/2 pack then the Nicotine inhaler helped me finish
I quit a 5 pack a day habit after smoking 55+ years
I would just like to second the answerer that said Allen Carr-s -easy way to stop smoking-.
Don-t listen to people who say nicotine-replacement - it is designed to keep you paying for nicotine for months and years to come, while keeping you hooked on nicotine until you start smoking again.
I read Allen Carr-s book 4 months ago and stopped, and it was so easy compared to the other two times I tried to quit with Nicotine chewing gum. You have to continue to smoke while you read the book.
My advise is to read it slowly (2-3 weeks) so you have time to really think about what he writes. The more you think about it, the more it makes sense - be sure to schedule a few social occasions with other smokers while you are reading it to prove his points.
Stopping is easy.
Have you thought about that you don-t smoke every night while you sleep, and you don-t wake up every hour feeling miserable because you have to smoke?
Don-t cut down either - that only makes you think about cigarettes every second of the day, like when someone tells you -don-t think about pink elephants-. Smoke, and enjoy it and smoke as much as you want. Or stop, and never smoke another cigarette again. You will be so happy that you did.
Please get Allen Carr-s book -easy way to stop smoking-, if you are female there is a book especially for women.
yes.... when you start smoking think that you are trying to stop smoking.........you want to quit it........you should not do it.......
then you will not smoke
please do vote for me for this advice!
Get the Allen Carr easyway to quit smoking book...it-s under a tenner on Amazon...trust me ..it works!!!
A lot of ads on TV make this claim. There is also quitting cold turkey like I did years ago. Where there is a will there is a way. Just tell yourself that you are going to stop because it is dangerous for your health and those around you.
COLD TURKEY...It worked for me. I have been smoke free one month on the 7th. I cheated once, but that was in the way beginning, and haven-t cheated, or even really thought of cheating since then.
Just think about the fact that you are wasting so much money smoking...add it up sometime. And, think about the fact that you are killing yourself, slowly. It isn-t worth it!
GOOD LUCK.
I have seen a lot of people stop smoking using a relatively new drug called Chantix. If you start taking it when you decide to quit smoking, it seems to gradually make you feel like you don-t want to smoke. I-m completely going off others- experiences as I have never smoked. But, I work for a pulmonologist, and I-ve seen quite a few patients successfully quit with it. The most common side effect we-ve seen is nausea, and that usually occurs when someone smokes a lot while taking the Chantix. The most important thing in any quit effort is that you decide you want to quit.
Educate yourself as to the dangers, and who imaking lots of money off of your habit - health-loss...

www.QuitNet.com Marvelous, free (unless you choose to buy premium membership..... but free is great. Works just fine.)
Best dang support site. Saved my quit several times over and kept me from smoking.
Also, there-s the patch, the gum, (which I used), the lozenge, inhaler, and by prescription only Chantix. You can choose between any of these, or do a cold turkey quit, your choice.
Come on over and check that site out. Big helper.
EDIT----
I just read that answer that said nicotine replacement is designed to keep you using it for years. WRONG!!! For a matter of weeks, or a couple of months. I believe fully in these. Made it possible for me to stay away from cigarettes till I-d gotten some other parts of the habit straightened out.
Yes. If you can be firm and your will power is strong.
Hi,
Yes there is a way to quit somking . Do you know cigarette smoking kills nearly about 420,000 people a year.
Let us know some of the risks of smoking before the method of quiting smoking
Following are the risks of smoking
1. Heart disease
2. Cancer
3. Dementia and neurologic diseases
4. Lung disease
5. Female infertility and pregnancy
6. Male sexuality and reproduction
7. Behavioural and Social Problems
8. Effects on bones and joints
Following are the methods to quit smoking
At this time the most effective methods for quitting is a combination of nicotine replacement products and the antidepressant drug bupropion bolstered by counselling. After a year only about 4% of smokers who quit without any outside help succeed. The primary obstacle in trying to quit alone is making the behavioural changes necessary to eliminate the habits associated with smoking. Excellent books, tapes, and manuals are available and are strongly recommended to help people who want to quit without other assistance.
1. Nicotine replacement
Nicotine replacement products provide low doses of nicotine that do not contain the contaminants found in smoke. They are proving to be twice as helpful as other standard quitting methods. Replacement products include nicotine patches, gums, nasal sprays, and inhalers. Side effects of any nicotine replacement product may include headaches, nausea, and other gastrointestinal problems. People often experience sleeplessness in the first few days, particularly with the patch, but the insomnia usually passes. Patients using very high doses are more likely to experience symptoms, and reducing the dose can prevent them. Certain individuals like people with heart disease, pregnant women, small children may need to avoid nicotine replacement products.
Nicotine patches: Nicotine patches, or transdermal nicotine, can be an effective way to quit smoking. The quit rate for patch users is around 20% after six months. Nicotine patches are available over the counter, but it is best to consult a doctor before using them, particularly people with any medical problems.
Nicotine gum: Nicotine gum (Nicorette), available over the counter, has also been effective for a number of people. Some prefer it to the patch because they can control the nicotine dosage and chewing satisfies the oral urge. Long-term dependence may be a problem with this method.
Nicotine inhaler: The nicotine inhaler resembles a plastic cigarette holder. It comes with a number of nicotine cartridges which are inserted into the inhaler. It has some specific advantages over other slower nicotine replacement products:
Nicotine nasal spray: The nasal spray satisfies immediate cravings by providing doses of nicotine rapidly, and thus may play a useful role in conjunction with slower acting nicotine replacement therapies.
Nicotine tablet: A nicotine tablet that is held under the tongue is also very useful.
2. Alternative and ther Methods for Quitting
Scheduled reduction: One study showed that people who used a systematic withdrawal schedule were twice as likely to quit as those who went cold turkey. The procedure involves the following steps:
Divide the number of minutes per day awake by the number of daily cigarettes; the result is the minute-long wait between smokes.
Set up a schedule with time intervals based on this result and using a timer, smoke only at those intervals; if the -cigarette appointment- is missed by more than five minutes, the smoker must skip that cigarette.
The following week, one-third fewer cigarettes are used and the smoking time is recalculated based on the lower number.
During the third week the count is again reduced by a third, and the smoker quits in the fourth week.
Change daily habits:
Change the daily schedule as much as possible. Eat at different times or eat many small meals instead of three large ones, sit in a different chair, rearrange the furniture.
Find other ways to close a meal. Play a tape or CD, eat a piece of fruit, get up and make a phone call, or take a walk (a good distraction that burns calories as well).
Substitute oral habits (eat celery, chew sugarless gum, suck on a cinnamon stick.) Go to public places and restaurants where smoking is prohibited or restricted.
Set short-term quitting goals and reward yourself when they are met, or every day put the money normally spent on cigarettes in a jar and buy something pleasurable at the end of a predetermined period of time.
Avoid heavy drinking of alcohol, caffeine, or other stimulants or mood altering substances.
Enjoy Life

Just remember a person whom you hate and think that the cigratte you are smoking is that person.
Another way to quit smoking is to start doing Pranayam everytime you feel like smoking. That is breath in and out. The urge vasnishes, believe me, I have tried this and was able to stop smoking. Only request is don-t fall prey to another habit to quit smoking. Thats wrong thinking. Good Luck
