i just quit smoking 3 weeks ago. i used the nicodrem cq, 21 mgs , lots of will power, and www.quitnet.com. you CAN DO IT.
you just have to be sick and tired of being sick and tired..there is no magic bullet......I used the patch for about a week to take the edge off but it took about a month to lose craving......stopped in november of 06......I smoked for 25yrs.....its rough but I am pulling for you..........you can do it!!!
Sorry, but it sounds like you are sincerely addicted to the effects of nicotine in cigarettes.. The first thing you need to do is evaluate what triggers your desire to smoke (i.e. some stress factor at work, home,etc.). Then, consider visiting your doctor who may be able to prescribe some medicine to help you reduce your wheezing difficulty (i.e. nebulizer of some sort). Finally, you may want to join a smoker-s anonymous support group to meet others who are going through the same problem. They may suggest certain techniques to reduce your desire to smoke, as well as begin using the patch to cut down your cravings...stay strong and feel better!
I quit smoking cold turkey. I have to live as long as I can to take care of my disabled child so for me, I was faced with making a choice on how much I loved someone else enough to be there for them. I don-t know if I could have done it just for me.
You need a plan to help you deal with the inevitable anxiety that will strike you, frequently at first. It does get better over time. You need to have your eyes on a worthy goal to keep you focused when you are weak and faced with the anxiety. Preferrably, something positive you can focus on and how you-ll feel when you have that goal. Mine was being able to live to be as old as possible (and in good health) to be there for my loved one. The other is to be able to get life insurance in case I couldn-t be there anyway (cheaper if you-re a non-smoker).

I used to like to say, I can quit anytime I want to. I-ve quit hundreds of times! LOL. Seriously, if you do slip up, don-t quit on quitting, just think of it as a setback and try again.

The denial and anxiety is strong, it sets aside your logic so you can find a reason to smoke again. People do this with every kind of addiction from food to gambling. This is why you will need that positive image or goal to help redirect your mind when the addiction is speaking anxiety and denial to you.

It also helps to not hang around other smokers. Don-t do any of the same routines. If you go outside to smoke during your break, DON-T go outside anymore. If you go outside to smoke on your patio, don-t go out to the patio for awhile. Go for a short walk somewhere instead. Do something different. Don-t continue with the old patterns, replace them with new ones the same time you quit. The brain LOVES patterns and will take the neuro pathway of least resistance. My child takes meds to stop her from having seizures. The more seizures she has, the more the brain WANTS to fall into the pattern of having seizures. The meds not only prevent her from having a seizure, but is preventing the brain from reinforcing this -well traveled pathway- into becoming a more permanent superhighway.

This is a good example of how the brain works period, regardless if there is a disorder or not. It goes to the path of least resistance and the more we use it, the less we will use the other pathways and the harder it becomes to get off the road. Addictions included. This just illustrates how important it will be for you to change your habits in conjuction with simply not smoking anymore.

In effect, you will have to decide you are going to embrace a new lifestyle inasmuch as you tell yourself are going to quit smoking.

I hope this helps.
