Ive quit smoking, worried about my lungs? -

How long will it take for my lungs to recover after i quit smoking.
Ive been smoking 3 packets of marlboro reds per week for the last 2 years and wanted to know how long will it take for my lungs to recover to the point where it was before i started smoking.
Ive no illness but im seriously concerned about my health lately.
thanks
See a doctor
Benefits
20 min. Blood pressure and pulse return to normal
8 hrs Nicotine and carbon monoxide levels in blood reduce by half. Oxygen levels return to normal.
24 hrs Carbon monoxide will be eliminated from the body. Lungs start to clear out mucous and other smoking debris.
48 hrs There is no nicotine left in the body. Ability to taste and smell is greatly improved.
72 hrs Breathing becomes easier. Bronchial tubes begin to relax and energy levels increase.
2-12 weeks Circulation improves
3 - 9 months Coughs, wheezing and breathing problems improve as lung functions are increased by up to 10%
5 yrs. Risk of heart attack falls to about half that of a smoker
10 yrs. Risk of lung cancer falls to about half that of a smoker. Risk of heart attack falls to the same as someone who has never smoked.
I wouldnt say you were a heavy smoker and had been for many years, yes there will be some damage but giving up now after only two years at it I think it shouldnt take too long before it becomes ok.

Well done for giving it up, there are many out there that have been smoking for 20+ years and cant give it up. Go see the gp if you are worried, he will tell you what you need to know- I dont know how long it does actually take for it to work its way out of your system but you have given yourself an extra 10 years life back

Well done
The damage done to your lungs is quite minimal at the level you smoked. You-ll notice an immediate improvemnet, the cough wil go away and the bronchial irritation wil heal itself within a few weeks, Some people will give you time tables that are based on nonsensical data.
This is the best thing you could have done for yourself. Please do not get caught in the trap of -just one, how could it hurt after all this time?-. That-s what happened to me. So i had to do it all over again.
You may or may not have done permanent damage to your lungs but after a time your lungs compensate and you-ll be just fine.
Then you can rejoin society. Don-t know if that-s a goal I-d want but some ppl. think it-s good.
God bless.
The damage is NOT permenant and don-t listen to the negitive comments.

I quit 2 months ago and I am starting to feel way better. I went for a 7 mile cycle yesterday, I could barely do 2 miles while smoking. U will breathe easier within a week and will have almost full recovery within 3 months. At 21 your body will fully recover back to per smoking levels.

Just don-t smoke and u will feel major benifits quickly and if you need some support quitting visit www.whyquit.org. There are cool videos and articles that will help.

Good luck
Congratulation on wanting to become a non smoker. The benefits are wonderful.
