Any ideas on how to quit smoking with out putting any weight on.? -

here-s the best way to quit smoking:

smoke normally for a week, and keep a very accurate account of how many/when you smoke.

looking at this information, begin to cut out cigarettes one week at a time. take your time with it, as long as a couple months even. after all, if you-ve been smoking, another 6 weeks of it won-t make things much worse :P

the smoking is the only thing to change. this allows you to keep the other elements of your routine the same, as well as helping you avoid urges because of the gradual step down from cigarettes.

i hope this helps :D
hey babe if i had the answer i would have given up years ago but i don-t but good luck to you anyway
I exercised when I stopped smoking so my metabolism wouldn-t slow down and I didn-t gain any weight.
Go cold turkey, and replace smoking with exercise. Take up running, swimming, or cycling, or whatever that suits you.
try to find a substitute for your cravings like gum or jogging
replace your smoking lifestyle with an exercise life style.
stop eating like a pig and hit the gym
Sew your mouth up!
When I quit I drank TONS of water all the time
chew lots of gum
one word answer - Determination-
Stop eating as much, or take more excercise....

.... or just carry on smoking.
I quit smoking for 2 years and didnt gain any weight! I just snacked on healthy foods and drank a lot of warm things.like tea, coffee, and broth.
stopping smoking will not make you gain weight. It-s the food that goes in the mouth that is the problem! Just don-t eat too much! Find something useful to do with your hands - learn to juggle, play the guitar, walk on your hands etc etc.
Improve your self confidence, being nervous will make you want to do something with your hands (previously smoking) so now find something else for them to twiddle.
I always prepare some fruit whenever i feels like smoking i take fruit eg. raisins.. Reduce taking lunch in day time.. + some exercise..
It always amazes me that there are humans out there who are more afraid of fat cells than they are of cancer cells.
Do some jogging for 1-2 hours at a time. By the time you-ve finished the last thing you wanna do is smoke.
you wont put weight on just by stopping smoking! Fact! you-ll put weight on by eating too much, if you eat as you normally do then you wont gain weight... simple really, like when ppl say --oh, i just cant lose weight,,,-- answer is dont eat so much....
Do gym for losing the weight and yoga for toning up
take up a sport and it will combat the fact that you are no longer smoking - its better for your health too!
Smoking is an addiction. When you stop smoking the addiction is still there in your brain. It will look for the next best substitute to relieve stress--FOOD. You must look for ways to treat your addiction first. Alcoholics Anonymous helps Alcoholics deal with their thinking problems after they quit drinking. Therefore, you may have to do an inventory on your personality and find out what are the triggers for you wanting to smoke and take it from there. Try looking for a group similiar to AA for this psychological support.
Hi, well i am going through the quitting program now. go on the nicotine replacement program. I am on the patches. That takes care of the ciggies. Now to take care of the habbit of putting your hand to your mouth. As you suggest a lot of smokers tend to put on a little weight. Well what I do is to cut strips of carrot and celery, and use them to have a nibble. Pieces of fruit is good as well.

Best of luck...lets quit it together.

i have been drinking a ton of water because it feels like i have mucus in my throat and it is making me cough. but when i do try to cough it out, it wont come out.

i am just wondering out of the blue, if someone started smoking again would the mucus be gone??
No. It will settle back down into your already diseased lungs.
You want to take out all the mucus from your system. Your lungs are getting rid of the toxins.

Here is a Yoga Exercise to clean your system after you quit smoking:

yes it would, but-- and a big BUT, if you continue to not smoke it will go away too. Think of it like this: imagine that you have a cut, and then you form a scab ( smoking = cut // scab= mucous) if you give it time to heal (continue not smoking), the scab will go away, or you can just cut your self over and over again (keep smoking) in the same spot and you will never have to deal with the scab, but you might die from loss of blood (cancer).
It will loosen up. Tyr robitussin dm...thins out the mucus. Drinking cold water helps, too....just don-t drown yourself. To use this as an excuse to start smoking again is ludicrous. Your body has already gone through so many positive changes since you quit. If you go online and look for quitting smoking, the benefits, short term as well as long term, are there. Hang in there. Exericse also helps loosen phlegm. Hang in there.
Yes it will go away if you smoke. But hear me out...your almost out of the woods, about one more week and you should be feeling better. That mucus will come out but it takes a while. The end results are awsome! Iam an ex-smoker.Quiting smoking was the best decision you have made. Stick it out and it will get better..ALOT better.
I would talk to your doctor about this problem. I quit cold turkey also and never had this problem. My emotions and system would go flying high then crash for about a month, and alot of smells and tastes made me sick....still can-t eat pork.....or take the smell of ink on a newspaper, but no throat problems.
Starting smoking again would make the situation worse, the mucus is there because of your smoking before. You can try some common cold remedies, but past that you-re probably just gonna have to ride it out.
Don-t drink too much or it would create other health problems. Go see your doctor as they have a better answer.

People can die from drinking too much water.
i would go to a doctor or something but really i doubt smoking again would help anything
thats called smokers cough and no it wont go away it will just make it worse
thats good

Chantix 9 months smoke free today.
Please at least try, I know someone who smokes 3 packs a day, and since I have known him, got more wrinkles now, coughs like he is in a TB clinic every morning, gets nervous if he cannot find his lighter, gets nervous when he sees the last few cigarettes are getting low in his pack. It is a bad addiction as bad as any drug, get out now while you can!
Damn right! Go for it!!! Just take that pack of smokes and chuck it out the window!!!

Good luck!
cold turkey only way to go

I don-t care to hear form non-smokers/X-smokers please. I know everyone knows everything, but I need someone who has been through this problem to help me. Thanks a bunch.
You:

If you only smoke when your not busy or you smoke when you-re bored: try a quit smoking hot-line; nicotine gum; or quitting cold turkey.

Your Method:

Usually, people who smoke when they-re bored have restless lives or restless energy. A hot-line will give you something to do, going cold turkey will make you even more restless and you find yourself doing something that seems to make you forget you haven-t smoked. The nicotine gum is touch and go because restless people tend to have addictive personalities and could probably get addicted to the gum itself (but not necessarily).

How I Know:

I became addicted to the gum and then ended up quitting smoking and the gum cold turkey.
Honestly i had to really think hard about why i wanted to, and once i found out that reason, i just quit, and went cold turkey and havent smoked since. The reason...i stayed at a veterans hospital for a few months cause i have ptsd and was getting treatment, well i was sitting down getting a smoke and a vietnam vet with a large oxygen tank, tapped me on the shoulder, pointed at the tank and then his nostrils where the oxygen was connected to and he said. -Its not worth it-
I quit cold turkey. That was 6 years ago and I still get cravings. I had the additional motivation of getting a severe lung complication ( sarcoidosis - a growth that invades organs, and leaves calcified deposits ) and having two doctors telling me that if I wanted to live to be old, quit smoking now.

On two occasions I have relapsed and purchased a pack of cigarettes. I did not smoke a whole pack either time, in fact I was suprised how yucky tasting they were. I knew that I was possibly tempting fate and threw them away unfinished each time.

It is not easy. If I am stressed I get cravings, and if I am working on something maintenance wise I get a craving because I used to smoke whenever fixing something around the house or car.

You don-t just turn it off. I assume I will always be fighting the cravings. I am just trying to make it as long of a fight as possible ( meaning, I live as long as possible ).

GOOD LUCK in your struggle, you are not alone.

Peace and good health.
I was fortunate enough to sign up with a research group at SFSU. Not only did I get paid to quit but the program that they used to help me quit was successful. I smoked for 22 years straight and had never even attempted to quit before. The program had us on the patch ( from strongest to lightest), had us come in to group about 1x a month and had us take Wellbutrin to take the edge off. Those thing plus a few other important exercises and tips worked for me and my boyfriend like a charm. It-s wonderful that you want to quit, you can do it!
My dad quit smoking after 40 years of smoking habit with 1-2 packs a day at least. It is about why you want to quit?
Exercising will help, cut your stick day by day, chew some gum when you feel like smoking or you can consult doctor. It is common to consult doctor nowadays.
i had a child that i drove to school in school bus tell me that smoking would kill me, and they wanted me around for awhile. i threw the rest of the pack in the trash, and never have smoked since.

a friend of mine quit by chewing on toothpicks. he still chews toothpicks, but hasn-t lit up in 10 years.

i know how hard it is to quit, but if ya really truly want to quit, you can accomplish your goal. good luck JD
I quit about a month ago. I took steps to completely stop. At first I took my cigs everywhere with me school ,work, everywhere. I stoped doing that and left them at home so I could only smoke at home. Then I started to monitor my count. I limited myself to 10, then 6 then 3 then I quit. Took over a year to finally stoped but I never think about smoking anymore.
I cut off all of my -fun money- funds. I smoked 2 packs a week, so instead I put that $10 in a jar and that jar, once it had enough in it, could be spent on anything I wanted.

Basically I-m really money oriented and that-s why it worked for me. I-ve been clean for over a year and I still stick the $10 in the jar as a continuing reward system.
Today is my 6th day without a ciggarette. Everytime I wanna smoke I have 1-2 glasses of water because I am really scared of the weight gain. I havent seen any of my friends that smoke this week because I am avoiding temptation. I unfortunatly dont have any suggestions for the moods as i am struggling with this as well.
You-ll need to get your mind off the cigarettes. Depends on how much you smoked, a pack a day is going to be hard to break, but 2 packs is insanity. Try smoking less at first, and work your way down. Patches and gum might work, but they only feed to the addiction, so ultimately, it-s going to suck.
-quitting is easy, i have done it loads of times-

i did it with the aid of patches. the gum is disgusting. also the inhaler is good as you hold it like you would a smoke.
as best said from my friends and myself, you need motivation and you need distractions. i had a major soda addiction where i would drink 12 cans a day, so i cut it to 3 per day, then none. good luck....
I just quit cold turkey. Did that twice in the same manner. Last time bacause we got pregnant, maybe that′s an option :)). jokes aside, good luck.
If you want to quit smoking visit http://www.stopsmoking4good.org or e-mail me at StopSmoking4Good@yahoo.com
Tried all the methods - gum, patch, hypnosis. Nothing worked, so now I just enjoy it.
i just stopped

no more smoking cigarettes and weed for me

JUST STOP !

Need Hints on how to quit smoking with Negative stimulation or assocation?? -

I need ideas on how to quit smoking by trying to associate a negative or unpleasant feeling with each time I get the urge. I believe it-s been done in various studies with trying to break a bad habit. For example, electroshock... but I don-t want to go that extreme...lol Any hints or ideas??? Would appreciate them.
My partner and I quit 9 years ago. For me, it was easy to go cold turkey. I guess I wasn-t addicted; just a social thing, cos I never smoked alone, and always smoked a BUNCH when out with friends at coffee or having a drink.
For my partner it was quite difficult. Not so much the addiction, but the HABIT. Everytime the phone would ring, she-d reach for the smokes. Everytime she got in the car, she-d reach for the smokes.
So, we made rules: no smoking in the house or car. Period. Clean both real good. I mean, wash the brown smoke stains off your walls and windows. Clean the carpets and upholstery in both house and car; make it CLEAN and smelling good.
When the phone would ring, she-d still reach for the pack of smokes, but with the rule, she had to not smoke or go into the garage. 2 feet of snow outside and an unheated garage are not conducive to keeping the habit! The rules about the car and house cut her habit in half!
Then she never carried them with her, so when she wanted a smoke, she had to go GET them. Then had to decide if she really wanted one badly enough to go all the way to where they were from where she was....get it? Make it inconvenient to smoke.
You-ll notice when it-s inconvenient to smoke, that you will smoke less. This may take a few weeks, but I bet you that at the end of a month, you-ll be at half what you used to smoke. Once you get it to half, make new rules. And remember to make it very inconvemient!
After we-d been quit for about 3 months we were standing in a theater line with friends. One left to have a smoke and when she came back, the smell was ghastly! I asked the group if WE used to smell like that and they said -Yes-. I was so embarrased!
I-m trying to quit, and I think the negative stimulation or association might be a good idea. Nothing else has worked. How about putting a rubber band on your wrist and every time you have a cigarette you give it snap. I might give that a try.
I would more go in positive stimulation association.

Every time you want to smoke,
- make love
- eat a fruit
- get a glass of water
- take a 5 minutes walk
- Stretch (It works !)
- do 20 jumping-jacks

uh... not all at the same time, but try some !

There you go for more info :

Good luck !
You COULD do that, but whatever it is that you associate your smoking with, you may actually end up liking. I know of a person that absolutely dreaded grapefruit juice, so she had a glass after every cigarette. But instead she just ended up loving grapefruit juice down the road. Be careful!
Don-t worry so much. Start some exercising. You-ll notice that you can-t breath when you exercise and that will make you want to quit. Also try to find an anatomy lab and look at cadavers who have lung cancer in their lungs. You can practice quitting as well. Try to go as long as you can without smoking, and if you fail, just try again when you are ready. Surround yourself with people who don-t smoke. Don-t go to bars. All of these things worked for me. I smoked for 8 years and then finally just quit because I realized I really didn-t need it.
My dad said cold turkey was the only way that worked for him...good luck

I-m guessing its just my lungs and throat recoiling in terror since they haven-t got their daily coating of tar..any suggestions? i-m on my 4th day cold turkey and i have no desire to smoke but my throat is so raw i can barely talk.
When you smoke it paralyzes your cilia, the little hairs that move mucus and junk out of your system. When you stop smoking the cilia start to -wake up- and have to work overtime to move all the crap out of your lungs. That-s why a lot of smokers cough so much in the morning, they haven-t been smoking while sleeping so their cilia finally get the chance to work. Congrats on quitting! Maybe some tea and honey would help soothe your throat??
That-s perfectly normal and will go away with time. You-ll start noticing a lot of changes in your body over the next three months. Just to give you a preview, here-s the changes I experienced in the order I experienced them: coughing/sore throat, sore lungs, depression, sleepiness, chocolate cravings (and I normally don-t even like it), anxiety, increased capacity to taste, and less shortness of breath/better lung capacity (you-ll notice this gets better over the next six months or so), weight gain. If you-re careful, you may be able to avoid some of the weight gain. If you are chewing nicotine gum, this could be causing the sore throat. Additionally, you may get heart burn chewing it. But, the gum helps a lot, and I recommend it when you start getting cravings.

Good luck!
congrats on your will power to quit. i hope you stay stong.

yes you lungs are weak right now from the lack of nicotine. its easy to catch something as simple as a cold. if it gets persistantly worse i would go see a doctor and tell them about it.
the coughing is your bodies way of trying to cleanse itself of all the build up. congratulations! try a spoonful of honey, or hard candies, or cough drops.

I want to chew tobacco so i can quit smoking.other methods, except cold turkey , too expensive. how to chew? -

what do you do? i know you have to spit, but what s the process to do it properly and not choke or something? what to avoid
Try something else, not chewing. Mouth and tongue cancer are rampant in chewers. It-s not a very smart idea to go to chew when you want to quit smoking. Try Tootsie Pops instead. At least they won-t give you cancer....maybe diabetes, but not cancer.~
Buddy, chewing tobacco is just as bad as smoking. It causes everything in the mouth cancer- tongue, jaw, lip, you name it. It-s just as addicting, so in the end you-ll still be paying to feed your addiction.

If you can-t do it cold turkey just pony up the dough and do the patch.
when you see a cowboy chewing ask him . he will tell you.
You-re just trading one form of cancer for another. You-d be better off with the patch or something.

Cleanse out my body...to get rid of toxins...but I don-t see any benefits from that...I have always been fine with having toxins in me from smoking, so why would I want to rid them so quickly? what will I notice? Clearer face?
Your body will rid itself of the toxins from cigarette smoking in a fairly short period of time. Your organs start to heal almost immediately. No need to rush things along, your body will heal itself all in good time.
There are many different forms of inner cleansing. I-m not sure how one would cleanse their body of nicotine, however. There are products on the market which claim to clean out various organs of built-up waste, and I-m not sure how they effective are or if they-re necessary.

I quit smoking for a year and felt better in general without any additional body-cleansing measures. You-re relieving your body of harmful toxins just by quitting. The effects aren-t immediate but withdrawal doesn-t last particularly long (in my experience). I had more energy and felt it easier to breathe in unfavourable circumstances after about three weeks.

I don-t think if you cleanse your body you-ll notice many changes. I presume the immediate effects of body-cleansing would be weight loss, quitting smoking probably counters that effect to an extent. As for having a clearer face, the only thing I ever cut back on that seemed to affect my skin positively was soft drinks.
Buy Zeolite from zeolite.com and take 3 drops 3x a day. It will really help you.

im 18. i have everything i want. ive got a sexy bf, im sexy lol, i have blonde hair i have big boobs (bra sixe d). But. i smoke cigarettes. i just cant quit! its hard HELP!!!
there is no easy way. i finally quit because i got 3 throat infections in 3 months and i was alway sick. i made new friends because all of my other friends smoked. 4 months later i hang out with them again because i can say no to a cigarette. it takes a lot of willpower. you need a support system. throw out all your cigarettes, chew gum and suck on hard candy. ask your bf and friends to be your support system and try to stay places where you arent allowed to smoke..

good luck :)
Stop buying smokes or have someone you live with give you only one per day, and only smoke once a day to begin with until eventually you wont want to smoke, so choose your most stressful part of the day to smoke your cigarette. or think about all the useful things you could be buying with all that money you-ve been throwing away. instead of buying smokes just put those five dollars you spend on them into a savings goal for a vacation or something that needs to be paid off...
to start with buy one single cigarette a day after a month break the cigarette into half and smoke it once every 2 days and after a while don-t put your mind on cigarettes think about the amount of money you are wasting buying a pack of cigarettes u can take that same money and be buying a pair of shoes lol
Go to your doctor and ask for that pill that helps you quit. That way, you won-t gain weight, and it really does work.
think about the bad results of smoking all the time , willpower is the best medison in the human life. thanks.

Please explain what helped you to quit smoking and how you did it.? -

.
I began smoking at the age of 15 and finally quit for good at the age of 57 (a year ago), when I was at a pack a day. Even tho- all the experts say you have to go cold turkey, I think that just increases the craving. This is how I did it. Everytime I wanted a cigarette, I only smoked half of it. So, I immediately cut my intake in half. After a few weeks of doing that (gives your body time to adjust to less nicotine), I would only take about 4 puffs, put it out and save it for the next craving. After a few weeks of that, I went to 2 puffs, then one puff (where one cigarette could last me a day or two). My body gradually got used to doing without the nicotine and I got to a point where I said, -when this pack is done, I-m not buying anymore-. That was a year ago. Recently, I stayed with my son, who smokes, and took a drag off his cigarette. I didn-t like the taste and it hurt my throat. If I can do it, you can do it, because I loved smoking!!!
Well I found something that worked well for me, I had a hard time quitting cold turkey, and the patch didn-t work for me either I still smoked with it on. So my friends mom told me about this new thing, I swear by it.

You use it just like a cigarette only it contains no tobacco and no cancer causing agents whatsoever, it-s basically a nicotine water vapor you inhale and it looks, feels and tastes just like smoke. You can use it anywhere! It worked for me because it wasn-t just the nicotine addiction it was the act and feeling of smoking that was hard to do without, with this I still have that.

The best part for me is that it actually is costing me less per month than cigarettes were. And I am adding years back to my life!
I have quit five times. Cold Turkey was brutal. The patch worked, but I gained 10 lbs. The nicotine gum was painful. I did get pregnant and tried again to quit cold turkey and was so stressed the doctor actually told me to have some! The stress was worse for the baby then a cig here and there.

Currently, I am using the electronic cigarette. I have cut down from 1 pack a day to about 3 a day and the closer I get to my quit date... the nastier the real smokes taste.

I have found that over my 5 attempts it is the hand to mouth action of smoking that ends up getting me. Even after the nicotine is out of my system, I C*R*A*V*E the action.

If you are interested, I am providing links below for you so you can at least have a look.
I ended up taking chantix. The first couple of wks I didn-t notice a change. Then about the 3rd wk I started feeling nauseated when I smoked a cigarette. I was on wk 4 and down to my last cig..I smoked it and didn-t smoke another one.
*Chantix wasn-t covered by insurance.
*It suppose to take 3 months for most people.
With it being over $100.00 a month I put my mind to it and quit within 4 weeks.!

The only way you will quit and stay quit is to really have your mind made up that you are going to quit!! To date it has been 1yr and 5 months.

added note** this was the 2nd time for me also. 1st time I quit when I found out I was pregnant and stayed that way for 2 yrs.... so yes I agree it is totally a mind thing
The doctor told me I was pregnant, so I quit. That proves I wasn-t physically addicted. All is takes is the will to quit, and a little willpower.
I never went back to smoking. Ughh!! I-m very proud to say, -I don-t smoke.-
i was a pack and a half smoker every day for years.i tried cold turkey it didn-t work.i must have tried to quit a dozen times.i ended up going to the hypnotist and it will be nine years since i quit this january.Good luck!!!
I used Commit nicotine lozenges to get off cigarettes, used them for several years. Then Chantix came out and I used a combination of that and cold turky to get off the lozenges.
I upped my weed smoking temporarily to compensate for the lack of nicotine.

I think Im having a reaction to Wellbutrin that was prescribed to help me quit smoking - its a rash (more) -

I quit taking it yesterday, but since two days prior to that, I-ve had these huge areas of what look like huge bites pop up on various parts of my body. It ranges from 3 -blisters- or -bites- to 15. I-ve had them on my face, on my arms and right now they-re on the back of my right thigh. It-s absolute agony! Shouldn-t this reaction have stopped by now if I stopped the meds yesterday (I mean I didn-t take them yesterday or today). I actually scratched them so badly day before yesterday that I made myself bleed. Benadryl isn-t helping and neither is Lanacane.

HELP! Information on this rash, when it will go away and how to alleviate the itching and pain is desperately needed!
I had what sounds like the same reaction about 5 or 6 years ago, when Wellbutrin first came on the market to help quit smoking, and most doctors didn-t believe the medication could cause this. My ex-doctor said it was all in my head. The first hospital ER said it was an allergic to sulfonamides, then proceeded to proscribe a sulfonamide to combat the symptoms. They also told me it was okay to go back on the medication. At the 1st ER visit to another hospital, during the 2nd reaction, the doctors there finally believed me, said they has seen this and tried to treat it. During the 2nd ER visit to the 2nd hospital, they referred me to a dermatologist. The, WONDERFUL, dermatologist finally told me the hard truth and it was exactly what I needed to deal with the situation.

This is a medicinal reaction. You will continue to have the reaction as long as the medication is still in your body. Wellbutrin (in my case at least) must be taken for 1 to 2 weeks in order for it to be absorbed in to the body and start to take affect, when symptoms may start. It will take 1 to 2 weeks until the medication is out of you body, when the symptoms will go away. All a doctor can do is treat the symptoms.

There are better over the counter treatments to help ease the discomfort now then 5 years ago. Therefore, I suggest you go to an allergy specialist, NOT a regular doctor, ASAP. Specialists usually see this exact thing all the time, unlike a general practitioner.

Hope you get better soon.

PS. Not a doctor, but sounds like it may have given you acute hives (type of rash it gave me). I also had chronic hives last year and Benadryl, steroids, all the -typical- meds don-t do anything and sometimes can make it worse. For the chronic version, in addition to 2 prescriptions, I was also told to take over the counter Zantac 150 (yes, the antacid) which worked the best of the 3 meds. Oatmeal baths and cooling the skin can help with the itching. Again, I-m not a doctor just sharing what helped me and what I learned.

Google hives or urticaria (medical term) to see if that-s your reaction. There are even new products on the market since my last reaction this.
TY for the info. I stopped taking the meds when I posted this. Since then, the itching has stopped - until tonight. I-m not on any meds now so I-m at a loss. I really thought it was the meds (I still do, and am wondering if this is a different situation). TY again.

Your gunna think I-m crazy, but you can put some ammonia on it, or get a lighter a put the flame on the rash for a quick second. It will make the itching go away.

I would also pick up some hydrocortisone cream and put it on for a few days.

Why are you taking Wellbutrin to quit smoking? It sucks compared to the other alternatives out there.... I work at a pharmacy and some of my customers who have tried every stop smoking drug and all the patches and everything quit using a drug called Chantix. Its superior to any quit smoking drug ever made. My mom quit after like 30-40 years of smoking, give it a try.

Yes,There is a medicine out (and as luck would have it I can-t remember what it is)any way it is ordered by a doctor that does a good job.I know many people that have taken it and it really works,OH Yea.cintrex is the name of it.You start out with two pills a day for a week or so then one for awhile, and it really works. Now the down side of it is you may have some odd dreams at first, and you may have some nausea a hour or so after taking it but stay with the program and it will work.I started on it about two weeks ago and I smoked two packs a day,Already down to about six cigs, per day.I believe in it.Good Luck.
No, but when you figure it out let me know.
Nicotine gum can help. Carrots instead of cigarettes. Take a walk for your nerves. Contact the American Cancer Society.
for some better ideas.
Try perfumed cigarettes. One of my sisters was a 2pack-a-day smoker. One day,she couldn-t find anything, anywhere, except some perfumed cigarettes. She lit one, took a drag and almost threw-up. She stopped smoking, then and there.

Good luck to you!
hypnosis worked for me for about 3 months till i drank a beer then it was over for me.I went from cigs to copenhagen.
Go see your doctor and get a prescription for chantix. I had tried to quit several times, so my doctor suggested that I try this. It worked, I-ve been off the smokes for 9 months now, and it was dead easy!

Good luck!
You absolutely need a support system and smoking cessation aids. Gum...patch, whatever. Check with the Lung association, ACS, etc...
No tips, just support =)

Good Luck!
I just decided today that Im going to quit smoking! Anyone have any tips for me?? -

Help, ex-smokers! How did you quit smoking? -

I am going on nine years of smoking a full pack a day. Before that it was off and on. Anyway, I know people quit after smoking for 20, plus years. How do you people do it? I-ve tried, but never been able to do it. Does any ex-smokers have any pointers?
I quit a 25 year, 2 pack a day habit COLD TURKEY 23 years ago. In my case, I pretended that they quit making my brand.
My dad had smoked for over 30 years and got a prescribed medication to help him. He had a hard time for a few weeks but got past that and now has no cravings and cant stand the smell. They gave him Wellbutrin to help him stop, but there are others as well.
I smoked three packs a day for over 20 years. Woke up one morning and almost coughed my lungs out and realized enough is enough. I threw away the pack I was smoking and have never looked back and it has been almost 20 years. One really has to want to quit the ugly habit before he/she will really quit. I am so happy that I quit when I did because I probably would be dead if I didn-t. Good luck......
I have smoked for the last 11 years, about a pack and a half a day. Last Monday, my husband and I bought a package of stage 2 nicotine patches and we each used 3 patches over the course of 3 days. That was to get over the initial time without cigarettes. We also radically changed our routine and have avoided smokers like the plague. Seriously, I don-t even breathe if I have to walk past someone who is smoking, because I don-t even want to be tempted by the smell of it. Cold turkey quitting does tend to be the best way to quit, but the only real way to quit, no matter how you decide to do it, is with absolute determintation that you will never smoke a cigarette ever again. Not just on the weekends, or just this once, or only when I-m drinking, but NEVER again. Once you have decided that you will NEVER be a smoker again, the rest will be easy.
I smoked for 35 years and stopped smoking 3 years ago. I developed a very bad respiratory flu and physically could not smoke because all I did was cough and cough and since we always smoked outside (it was winter at the time) it made my cough worse. It started off not smoking for 1/2 day, then increased it to 1 day and said to myself -if I went one day without maybe I can go 2-, etc. But be prepared for the cravings because they never leave you - they do become less and less as time goes. Good luck and try whatever you think will work for you.
You have to commit to quitting. Don-t say you are trying to quit.
Just say that you have quit. If you go for a few days without smoking, then you have managed to get rid of the body-s physiological dependency and all that is left is the psychological dependency. Some people find that they need to replace the activity of smoking with something else. Chewing gum helps some people. The patch and the gum can help lower the physiological dependency over time but most people tend to have a pretty strong will power for a short period of time. It may be easier to do just do it cold turkey over a short period with more will power.
If there are people in the family that smoke, it is best to all quit together and use each other as a support group.
One couple did that, and when at home, shared a kiss when they felt like smoking. Made for a happier marriage while they were quiting smoking.
My friend just quit in July after about 17 years of smoking a pack a day. She started freaking herself out over cancer and emphysema. Those graphic anti-smoking commercials started to get to her. She then read The Easy Way to Stop Smoking by Allen Carr (it-s about how we are brainwashing ourselves into thinking we can-t quit). She stopped buying cigarettes and used the patch everyday. She bought tea tree oil flavored toothpicks and started chewing on those all day. She was a mess for about a week but slowly got better after that. She actually quit using the patch once the box was empty and she tried the gum but she thought it was gross. She hasn-t smoked since and it-s been about 5 months.

I tried the exact same thing as her and I-ve been smoking about a pack a day (sometimes more) for about 10 years. I had a mental breakdown after about a week then I ran out of patches. I freaked out about gaining weight so I ran out and bought cigarettes instead of patches. I-m still smoking. Honestly, the patch was working but I made the decision to buy cigarettes instead. I really didn-t try hard enough because I was afraid of the weight gain.

The anti-depressant Wellbutrin is supposed to help people stop smoking but I can-t take it since I-m on other medication.

Ask your doctor about Chantix. It helped my uncle quit, after numerous unsuccessful attempts with other medications. He quit after smoking for like 30 years!
i really don-t think there is a medication to help you quit I-ve tried the gum the patch and hypnotism nothing worked so far for me
Whatever medicine you use to help, you definitely need willpower. You can do it if you really want to do it. Make sure you do or you-ll just set yourself up for failure.
It depends on your country. Here in the UK we have 6 forms of Nictoine Replacement Therapy (Microtab, Lozenge, Gum, Patches, Inhalator and Nasal Spray) along with 2 medications that act on the Nicotine Receptors in the brain (helping the brain to not -want- the Nicotine anymore) - Zyban (Buproprion) and Champix (Verenicline). Champix is giving the most successful quit rates here - and DO NOT LISTEN TO THE PRESS STORIES ABOUT IT!!! The press need to sell stories and the best way is by scaring/scandalising people. People with underlying psychiatric illness should be carefully monitored when quitting as withdrawal can exacerbate the illness and perhaps lead to sucidal ideation if they are that way inclined, just like stress can! - That-s all you need to remember. Zyban has more contraindications and cautions than Champix. NRT can be very effective if used properly (in combination if necessary). The Nasal Spray gives the most similar -hit- to the cigarette, if the user can tolerate the initial first uses as it can be rather aversive until the user is tolerant - just as a cigarette is when first starting to smoke! Only go for standardised therapies as you-re more likely to succeed and get support from a professional - treatment + support means you-re 10x more likely to suceed.
Ask your doctor about Effexor trust me it works!
go to your doctor and they-ll tell you the options.
There are no known harmless but effective medications for it.So far, nicotine in the form of patches, chew ables or inhalers etc is the most effective as also logical aid available.Essentially,we have to condition the body gradually for lower and lower requirement of nicotine and finally free it from any dependence on it.This scientific practice also ensures the least chances of relapse as the craving is minimized at all stages and it-s finally extinguished. You may also look at Yahoo.com to join quit smoking group as they give valuable tips and information about smoking. Finally,I want to remind you that there are thousands of reasons, triggers ,compulsions and what not for smoking but only ONE to quit and that is, -YOU WANT TO DO IT and CAN DO IT-.All the best.
chantex it works
Zyban helped my husband but then switched to Wellbuturin.
Stop buying cigarettes and don-t hang out in smoky places. It sounds too simple, but that-s what worked for me and a few friends. You have to actually stop the car, wait in line, buy the cigarettes and a lighter all while mentally kicking your own a**. That-s too much work to screw up something I-ve been working on in my opinion
Champix in Australia and Chantix in the US (both the same) are supposed to have a success rate of 40%.

If i was to quit smoking now..? -

i-ve been smoking 10 a day for about 3 years. if i quit now and never smoke another cigarette again, in years to come will my lungs be as healthy as a non smokers?
Yes, it wouldn-t take long to get back to clear lungs. Your sense of taste will be the first thing to come back though and you-ll be amazed at how much you-ve been missing. Give it a shot! Good luck
If you are under 40 years of age, your lungs will be as good as new in about 2 months.
Please do quit! You-ll never regret it!
10 a day aint that bad it would not take that long to be clear
Odds seem pretty good that after several months you won-t have a much higher risk of health problems than lifelong non-smokers. As the doc mentioned already, you-ll get some of your senses back within just hours/days of quitting. Your skin will also improve, as smoking introduces CO into your system, which starves organs of oxygen.

Good luck in quitting, it will be worth it.
It-d probably take about 20 years for you lungs to completely repair and be as good as they were before you started.

I-d highly recommend you do everything in your power to stop. It-s a highly addictive disease to smoke, and something that will hurt you in the long run. It-s one of the top killers in the united states.
yes,i would say 10 years--[and you,ll be as good as new,i smoked 20 a day for over 30 years.i gave up a year and 3 months ago, stopping smoking is the most healthiest thing you could ever do,mind you it wasn-t easy, but my advice is put the money you would have spent on cigs in a jar and save it up,and no matter what you do ,don-t give in don-t even have a sly one,cos all that does is you wanting another and another,so don-t have any at all,the very best of luck you can do it.

I just quit smoking. Im feeling very moody, what can I do?!? -

I just stopped smoking today and I feel like I-m going to kill someone soon. lol What can I do to curb my moodiness?! HELP! My husband will be home soon and I just know I-m going to bite his head off over something stupid.

lol
Congratulations...its a big step.

Warn your hubby that you are feeling grumpy and can he please just leave you alone or whatever you need him to do. That way it hopefully wont end up in an argument.

This anxiety and moodiness will go away in about a week or two. You are doing really well. Why not grab a water bottle and go for a walk as that will get your mind off whatever is troubling you. I chewed sugarfree gum instead of that nicotine one -cos thats really expensive.

I quit 3 years ago and I am so happy I did.

Well done...keep up the good work!
This is not an uncommon situation.

Normal, especially the first few days.

When you have a craving, sip on some water and hum a song. Sounds funny, but it does help. Go for a quick walk before he comes home to let off some steam.

I-m going to give you a site that I think will really benefit you. Its free and is used by long term quitters and newly quit. They are very supportive and will give you great tips and help you keep in the game. Its available 24 hours a day as well, which helps.

Do take the time to join it and get involved. You-ll be thankful it exists.

Hang in there. It does get better.
Biting his head off might make you feel better. :P

I want to hear from people who have quit smoking using the patch...? -

My husband smokes a pack a day, he is trying to quit and I want to know if the patch will really help. He-s high strug, so he stresses very easily, then we visit his parents every weekend who are 4 pack a day smokers (that makes is harder for him to quit when he has tried in the past). Will the patch really work? I don-t want to spend a ton of money on something that won-t work.
I quit by using the patch a few years ago, but only for about 6 wks. I have a lot of stress, so I couldn-t maintain. Acupuncture helped a lot, but ended up not being effective in the long term either. I am starting the new drug Chantix on Monday (I have a bad cold right now so I-m waiting). My doc told me that everyone he has put on Chantix has been able to quit. He also said the likelihood of quitting using Chantix is 70%, versus 30% for the patch or gum. Chantix works by giving you a steady stream of endorphins (woo-hoo happy happy). The only side effects his patients mentioned was nausea, which subsided within 2-3 days. It is a 6 month program, but most people stop medication after about 3 weeks. I can-t wait to try to quit again!
this is not a good idea, but i have been quit for two years i started using skoal.
replacing a drug with another which is exactly the same doesn-t really make sense. think.. if your husband was a heroin addict would you give him heroin to quit? i believe that smoking in primarily a psychological addiction. try buying him Allen Carr-s Easyway to Stop Smoking or better still send him to one of the clinics which have a money back guarantee if you don-t quit. good luck.
Though I started smoking again because of awful things that happened in my life....the patch made me quit for a long time. It was a great help. Tell him to stay away from the family for five weeks though.....they will understand. Also......the patch is sold way cheap at Sam-s club if you have a membership?
The patch works.I gave up smoking 10 yrs. ago. However, the person who is trying to quit has to have the resolve -THAT I-M NEVER GOING TO SMOKE ANYMORE-,otherwise any method won-t work! The patch takes away that little voice inside that constantly reminds you how long it-s been since your last cigarette. You still have the habit for a while,though.There-s no panacea for quitting.Again, you have to be strong and WANT TO give it up!!
I used the patch. Worked for me. Started with the highest dose used for 2.5 months, then the next dose, used for 2 months then the lowest, used for 2 months and have been off of the patch and no cravings for 3 months now. It is expensive but when you compare to the health issues that can arise with smoking and the cost of smoking, it is well worth it for 6 months. Good luck.

I just started using the patch to quit smoking on 5/2/08. Today I am having some severe anxiety/panic attacks -

Has anyone else experienced this?
I used the patch about five years ago. I had smoked for 5 years, about a pack or more a day. I started with the highest dose and followed the directions. If you were smoking less, you maybe need to lower the dose. I know I was nauseas and a little depressed. For a while there, I was cutting straws and -fake smoked- with them, because that was part of the addiction. My hand was just used to it. I still to this day have cravings, but I-ve fought them. I tried to smoke twice on the patch...bad idea, I threw up. Just try lowering your patch does and see if that helps. It may not hurt to see your doctor too! Good luck to you and I hope you-re successful with this! You-re doing a great thing!
Is it possible that you started with too strong of a patch? Maybe the amount of nicotine you are getting from the patch is actually MORE than you were getting from smoking? That would cause your symptoms. I would call a pharmacist and discuss it with them.
NIcotine withdrawal can cause anxiety. Too much nicotine in the patch can cause nervousness. Hard to know what is causing your symptoms.

But hang in there! You-re doing the RIGHT THING!!
I haven-t tried the patch, but I-ve tried the gum. It could just be nicotine withdrawal.
this is a withdrawl symptom, not related to the patch.
I just started using the patch to quit smoking on 5/2/08. Today I am having some severe anxiety/panic attacks -

Has anyone ever taken Zyban to quit smoking? -

Has anyone ever taken Zyban to quit smoking? -

If you or anyone you know has taken it, what are the side effects?Did it work? Any advice on what else to use to quit?
Yes, but in combination with Nicoderm patch. My doctor had me use the patch (2mg) and ween down after the first week to a half a patch. I cut it in half. I also used black licorice when the urges really got to me. Just put a piece in your mouth and suck on it.
I have to say the want and need to quit is foremost in being successful. It was very hard for me but I haven-t smoked in over 7 years now. After the first 3 months it was so hard I told myself I would never go back to smoking as I never wanted to go through that again. It worked for me and my husband! Good Luck and get a friend to help. Find something to do with your hands, wood working, crafts, knitting, dishes and take baths and showers, you can-t smoke in a shower.....lol.. Keep busy.

I quit after smoking for 30 plus years and enjoying every puff! If I can do it, anyone can. I used the step-down patch method w/ the zyban.I had started having trouble ,not on inspiration but on expiration and it scared me soooo much, I was determined to quit and haven-t smoked since January 2005! I never had any adverse side effects .You have to be really determined but you can do it. Good luck.
yes i used it...didnt help me any...no side effects..supposed to be like an anti-depressant also...wish i knew how to quit..have tried everything.Guess it-s all in the mind...if you really want to quit you will....i wish you the best of luck.. and hope you do quit
I have - but i didn-t like the way it made me feel.

I-ve been quit for 2 months on the nicotine patch system.

If you-re serious about quitting - and i SWEAR this will work - just go buy some patches and slap one on (the 21mg).

You-ll be getting your nicotine. You won-t think about it as much (but, you will) but even if you are, you-ll realize that having a cigarette will make you sick.

So if you do, you-ll go on nicotine overload and won-t decide to any more.. OR, you-ll realize that after 3 days you-re at the beginning of breaking your habit.. and that you just to have take every hour at a time.

Soon you-ll be at 2 months, down to the 7 mg like i am.. and realize that there-s no turning back to that EVER again.

Good luck!
Yes and it didnt work the only thing you need is a positive frame of mind and will power, i quit 15 weeks ago and all did was tell myself everyday that there will be harder things to do in my lifetime than quit smoking and it really wasnt that hard there are quit groups online with chatrooms for support. good luck.

You Can Quit Smoking

A 5-Day Plan To Get Ready

The first step to quitting smoking is to decide to quit. Next, make an appointment with your health care provider, or contact a smoking cessation clinic to discuss your options for treatment. Set a quit date.

Quit Day Minus 5
List all of your reasons for quitting and tell your friends and family about your plan. Stop buying cartons of cigarettes.

Quit Day Minus 4
Pay attention to when and why you smoke. Think of new ways to relax or things to hold in your hand instead of a cigarette. Think of habits or routines you may want to change. Make a list to use when you quit.

Quit Day Minus 3
Make a list of the things you could do with the extra money you will save by not buying cigarettes. Think of who to reach out to when you need help, like a smoking support group.

Quit Day Minus 2
Buy the over-the-counter nicotine patch or nicotine gum, or get a prescription for the nicotine inhaler, nasal spray, or the non-nicotine pill, bupropion SR. Clean your clothes to get rid of the smell of cigarette smoke.

Quit Day Minus 1
Think of a reward you will get yourself after you quit. Make an appointment with your dentist to have your teeth cleaned. At the end of the day, throw away all cigarettes and matches. Put away lighters and ashtrays.

Quit Day
Keep very busy. Change your routine when possible, and do things out of the ordinary that don’t remind you of smoking. Remind family, friends, and coworkers that this is your quit day, and ask them to help and support you. Avoid alcohol. Buy yourself a treat, or do something to celebrate.

Quit Day Plus 1
Congratulate yourself. When cravings hit, do something else that isn’t connected with smoking, like taking a walk, drinking a glass of water, or taking some deep breaths. Call your support network. Find things to snack on, like carrots, sugarless gum, or air-popped popcorn.

Also try the A,erican Cancer Society.

GOOD LUCK.
Hypnosis?

It-s a proven thing. The website in my sources features a man who was smoking for 20 years and stopped through hypnosis.
The shortest and least stressful way is with some powerful help.
This will give you ways to put in a new non-smoking program or habit into your brain. The physical addiction to nicotine is gone in 2-3 days, so the rest is habitual, and psychological. There-s lots of tips, info and free help at
http://www.quitguide.com
plus a great guaranteed course you can do to make the whole process easier on yourself.
It-s all psychological. If you WANT to quit (solid motivation helps, like stopping for a partner or by a certain date) then it can be done. If you would like to quit, but still indulge occasionally, or do it -by mistake- when you get drunk, then you won-t be able to do it.

You have to start seeing yourself as a -non-smoker-, and not even tempt yourself by sitting in smoking sections, just having ONE, etc

Btw I wouldn-t waste my time on those patches and pills. Use your mind to quit, it-ll work and you-ll save money :)
By a strong will power and determination
This method works for me and is the only money back guaranteed.
I quite smoking 2 years ago

Get the Facts
Easyway, founded by Allen Carr in 1983, has the highest independently verified 12-month success rate (75.8% for a smoker completing the program) of any quit smoking technique and a 90% satisfaction rating.

Compare Easyway to other methods and see for yourself why Easyway is called “The Cadillac of quit smoking methods.”

The Allen Carr Method
HOW THE METHOD WORKS

Using psychotherapy, the method works in the opposite way to the “willpower” method. It does not concentrate on the reasons the smoker should not smoke : the money, the slavery, the health risks and the stigma. Smokers know all that already. Instead it focuses on why smokers continue to smoke in spite of the obvious disadvantages.

It is fear that keeps smokers hooked!

Fear the smoker will have to give up their pleasure or crutch. Fear the smoker will be unable to enjoy life or handle stress. Fear the smoker will have to go through an awful trauma to get free. Fear the smoker will never get completely free from the craving.

The Method removes these fears
Smokers quit with the Allen Carr Method as happy non-smokers, not feeling deprived but with a huge sense of relief and elation that they have finally achieved what they always wanted….

TO BE FREE!

What about the terrible withdrawal pangs from nicotine?

The physical withdrawal from nicotine is so slight that most smokers don’t realise that they are addicts. What smokers suffer when they try and quit using other methods is the misery and depression caused by the belief that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch.

The Allen Carr Method removes this feeling of deprivation.
It removes the need and desire to smoke. Once the smoker is in the right frame of mind and they follow the simple instructions, the physical withdrawal from nicotine is hardly noticeable.

No Gimmicks!

The Method does not use any gimmicks, useless aids or substitutes. No nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, tabs, inhilators or nasal sprays! No needles! No lasers! No drugs! No herbs! No shock treatment!

The Allen Carr Method is successful because:

It removes the smokers’ conflict of will.
There are no bad withdrawal pangs.
It is instantaneous and easy.
It is equally effective for long-term heavy smokers and light smokers.
You need not gain weight.
You will not miss smoking.

Medical Endorsements

A personal view from Professor Judith Mackay MBE, JP, FRCO (Edin), FRCP (Lon), World Health Organisation Advisory Panel on Tobacco and Health

“I have no hesitation in supporting Allen Carr’s work. Many clinics use some of his techniques but it would appear that few do it in quite such a successful package.”

Carole Johnson, Coronary Heart Disease Prevention Unit, Tyne Tees

“his success rate was such that, when budgets allow, we continue to use Easyway for work with specific groups and individuals.”

Dr Anil Visa BSc, MBBch., FRCA, Consultant – Royal Hospitals NHS Trust – Royal London Hospital

“I have observed the Allen Carr method at first hand and have found it to be very successful and I wholeheartedly support it as an effective way to quit smoking.”

Dr William Green, Head of Psychiatric Dept, Matilda Hospital, Hong Kong

“It is a remarkable fact that Allen Carr, on his own admission a non-professional in behaviour modification, should have succeeded where countless psychologists and psychiatrists holding postgraduate qualifications have failed, in formulating a simple and effective way to stop smoking.”

Dr Martin Jarvis, Principle Scientist, Imperial Cancer Research
Fund and Reader in Health Psychology, University College London

”...I am more than happy to testify to Allen Carr’s enduring involvement and to recognise the value of the kind of behavioural and cognitive support he provides.”

Dr PM Bray MB CH.b., MRCGP

“I was really impressed by the method. In spite of the Allen Carr organisation’s success and fame, there were no gimmicks and the professional approach was something a GP could readily respect. I would be happy to give a medical endorsement of the method to anyone.”

Celebrity Endorsements

-His method is absolutely unique, removing the dependence on cigarettes, while you are actually smoking. I’m pleased to say it has worked for many of my friends and staff.”
Sir Richard Branson

“Some friends of mine who had stopped using Allen Carr’s method suggested I tried it. I did. It was such a revelation that instantly I was freed from my addiction. Like those friends of mine, I found it not only easy but unbelievably enjoyable to stay stopped.”
Sir Anthony Hopkins

GOOD LUCK!
throw away your cigarettes and stop thinking of it, try to do some other activity to fullfill your mental abetite like sports..It worked with my brother and uncle also.
Start smoking as many nos as you can per day/months and finally time will come when you will......... successfully be able to quit smoking. Why to live with pain and die so slowly? Killing slow and gradual is a terric pain to self and others too who are attached to you. I hope you understand what i mean.

you are asking somebody the techiques , why don-t you make your will power stronger? think about your parents, childrens, wife, girl friends and their possible conditions after you............................. I think now you will surely quit smoking.

Good luck
met the docter and pray to God.
u can do it only if u have a self control. U should think of the smoke which u take in.

Im trying and it is one of the hardest things I have attempted to change, in my life. I think tobbacco is tuffer to quit though. Uh, like the other person said, you have to want to,then it is much easier. Either way.....keep busy, all day long, as much as you can. Dont let yourself get hungry. Drink lots of cold water.Especially in the first days of detoxing. Keep drinking it anyways :) Stay away from users. Its an instant fast track back. Remind yourself constantly of the downside to using. When we want to use. we think fondly, of getting high and forget all the negative crap that comes along with it. For instance, being zoned out all the time, memory issues, spending $ on drugs, instead of food and bills.killing motivation, people thinking im a moron, Me feeling like im a moron lol etc....add to it what you will. The more reasons you have to remind yourself, the better. Be greatful you only struggle with a pot issue, and not a chemical one....So much easier to kick. Chemicals and booze store differently in our bodies than pot, and cause extreme illness when detoxing( about 3-4 weeks to be out of system) Pot is psychological. It takes about 6 months, before your brain clears all the smoke out and you can think clearly again. Best of luck to you.......
Start smoking the kiff only.

Since the hit will be minimal, you will soon come to realise it is not worth the effort.....and you will quit.

Better than going cold turkey.

If you go cold turkey, you will always remember the quality of the buds...as they will be the last memory of smoking weed.

If you finish by smoking the kiff, then the memories will be of a mediocre smoking experience.
Easily, it is not physically addictive.

However, if it has become a habit, you really just need some self-control.
you go cold turkey and pray and ask God to help you not to be addicated anymore and just really go cold turkey its really hard to do but God can help you
changing your group of friends, exercising, and getting busy. ---worked for me, I still see my old friends occasionally but don-t hang out with them when they are with mary jane.
you have to want to quit, then you can. promise
they just say-this buds for you, not me- and they quit.
I agree with seashore honey...

How can i make him quit smoking pot? -

How can i make him quit smoking pot? -

i know he knows that he need to stop not much for me but for his little girl. he keeps saying its the last blunt but then the next day its another last blunt. some say its not addictive but i do think it is. cuz he changes when hes not high, crabby and sorta bi-polar.
i need some ways to try to make him stpo. i love him i dont want to leave him, but i cant also make a family with a lazy pot head.
If you guys aren-t married yet, but plan to marry. Tell him something along these lines: You love me right? If you do, why are you ruining your body and making things difficult? I want you and only you at our wedding, and after that and forever! If you keep smoking, all that-ll be left of you is the smell of pot in the air...and i love you too much to let you do that...If you can-t quit smoking for me- and for our daughter, I-m taking it as a sign that you can-t commit to our family- to me.

If you guys are married....say somethig along these lines: When i married you, i was so filled with love and excitement...but these days you-ve been filled with nothing but pot and high tempers. Quit or i will
by that last line, i would say you know what to do.
threaten him youre leaving
2 kids died the day before yesterday in a bus accident in Italy. The driver had smoken pot and just lost control of the bus. The road was straight and no other car involved. So it was the pot who killed them. This should give him a thought.
If he-s a crabby guy when he-s not high, then all the pot is doing is covering up his real problem -- so whatever it is that he won-t face that makes him crabby comes up fast when he-s sober, and it makes him irritable and angry because he has to deal with it.
Pot isn-t the problem.
His refusal to deal with the real issues in his life - that-s the problem.
Okay, it-s probably that he doesn-t want to stop and I can-t think of a reason why he should. Marajuana is unjustly illegal and many so called -facts- are spewed out about the drug, but in fact it has many medicinal and other beneficial uses wheras alcohol is about a thousand times more dangerous and addicting. He doesn-t have to be lazy just because he smokes pot.

His crabby attitude and what you describe as -sorta bipolar- is due to the fact that marajuana relaxes some people and reduces their anxiety and tension. You take that away and he-ll feel less relaxed and more likely to snap at you.

He-s lazy because he is lazy not because he smokes pot. Talk to him about taking care of his responsibilities and if he wants to smoke up a couple times a week, so what? As long as he is being responsible the guy deserves a break.

If you are both unwilling to compromise on this, then you should leave him. He needs someone a little more rational and you need someone a little more straight edge.
just tell him how many less brain cell he has left and doing something just to make you feel better is not the answer why not ask him to get help and he will not stop ask him how does his kid feel daddy smokes tell him to do it for the kid why don-t you and his kid leave for a while and let him clean up please understand I do not mean this against you but to help you out I hope
See if you can take him to a rehab/ care centre for people with drug ****** brains to demonstrate to him what it can potentially do to him. i knew a 16 year old boy for whom it was the catalyst for serious psychotic episodes, violence... he drooled, slurred his words all the time due to the damage excessive smoking had done to his brain- irrepairable damage. this guys going to have to be in a care facility for the rest of his life. Before meeting him i had smoked pot occaisonally, afterwards i swore i would never do it again despite how much i liked how it made me feel. the likelihood of such a thing happening is extremely low, but the consequences if it does are catastrophic
How can i make him quit smoking pot? -

Any Tips on How to Quit Smoking....? -

Its only been a day and I am going NUTS
just take it one craving at a time...and keep your mind occupied. If you have a craving find something to to so you don-t sit there and think about it...

all cravings eventually pass...mine usually only lasted about 5 minutes or so.

If you can keep cutting back until you-re completely quit without giong on a binge that works for some. I couldn-t do it... I-d get down to five a day and then blow a whole pack up on a bad day... I just had to walk away from them cold turkey.

Also, if you slip keep trying... it took me more than 10 tries to finally quit, and it takes the average person 8 times.

I don-t know if now is a good time in your life to quit if you-re stressed out and stress if a trigger to smoke for you...

(Don-t tell anyone I gave a real answer for once that didn-t involve any perv at all...)
hang in there i smoked for over20 years i tried several times to quite with no succes than on day i made up my mind said my prayers and quite cold turkey put my ashtrays in the trash the night before then i woke up the next day and said i want my life back so if i can do it you can too i smoked 3 packes a day just dont give up or turn back
Well every time you have an urge to smoke get a piece of Chocolate, a skittle, of mnm. Or put a dollar into your next shopping spree. Also take a picture of your family , then cut yourself out of it. Paste the picture on every box.
Go cold turkey...this friday I quit 9 weeks ago and after about 2 or 3 weeks it didnt even bother me anymore..everyone I know have gone cold turkey and has be successful
Don-t quit cold-turkey...go on a -cigarette diet-, cut down by one a day so your body gets used to the lower amounts of nicotine. I quit 4 years ago and rarely even crave one anymore.
Perhaps you can find some useful information in
http://www.quitnow.info.au
.
If you need something long and white to suck on, i will even let you lite my azz on fire if it helps
Try those special gum they make. Or you can use patches.
Stick other phallic objects in there.....
If you find the answer let me know. I did find this.
start chewing? wait dont do that cause i really cant quit that $hit.
i don-t know sweets; i-ve never smoked. all i can offer is comfort hugs! {hug}
I can be your pimp..... I help u keep ur mouth busy....

Think about it... When can both get what we wan-t .. .lol =P

What is the best way to quit smoking?? -

i am wanting to quit smoking but i dont want to take any medication or use nicotine patches. i have been smoking for at least 8 years. how have you quit smoking without using any medication? i-ve tried cough drops, jolly ranchers and cold turkey, but so far nothing has work. any input would be greatly appreciated
Without the help of nicotine patches or medication (Zyban helped me quit without ANY problems), you are at the mercy of cold turkey.

Everyone is unique in the manner in which going cold turkey affects them and in particular, what methods they use to help. All I can advise is NOT to go for eating anything other than sliced carrots when the urge to keep your hand/mouth occupied because you run the risk of becoming addicted to gum, mints, cough drops etc etc.

The following helped my mind...place the cost of your cigarrette consumption in a clear glass bowl. Each Month take it to the bank and exchange it for higher value bills. At the same time, place photographs at various strategic places around your home/work of something you wish to purchase but can-t afford. This will help you overcome your mind-s tricks...keep focused on that special item/vacation destination and tell yourself the glass bowl will quickly pay for this item.

Good luck, I wish you every success
Okay. Get your cigarettes right now and throw them away. Now go to your local store and buy some gum. After you purchased the gum, put a piece in your mouth. Or buy something else to occupy you like a new dog or kitten or something. But if your thinking about buying new cigarettes, don-t do it.

This is why

-leads to cancer
-People around you hate it
-If you have kids, you are setting such a horrible influence for them and even on kids you don-t know
-Your fingernails will turn yellow
-Gives you horrible breath
-DOESN-T LOOK COOL
-Makes you look so much older (not in a good way)
-Leads to addiction
-Makes you die early
-Forms TAR on your lungs, and who knows, maybe when your 50 you-ll be carrying around those oxygen tanks with you

\and just so much more.

Think of this. Every cigarette you Smoke from right now, you just killed a babies life and its all your fault.
hi rj ..

The easiest and fastest way to quit smoking is to chew minty gum all the time. Because everytime you chew minty gum and smoke right after, it tastes like **** doesn-t it. Do this and you-ll eventually stop smoking all together. Hope this works out for you!
suck on a straw like you are smoking it. Hang around with nonsmokers. Keep busy.
Eat lots of fruit and veggies, not candy. Keep cigs out of reach, like if you relapse you have to go outside and find them. Remind yourself every morning it is the day to not smoke, and take one day at a time.

I am trying to quit smoking but I need that nicotine, I am bored? What can I do? -

I have been doing these:

2. Keep very, very busy
3. Begin an exercise program of some sort.
4. Keep healthy snacks around when there is that uncontrollable urge to put something in your mouth.
5.Drink water

And I still have a strong urge

Due to the unpleasantness of the withdrawal symptoms, many people who try to quit smoking end up replacing the cigarettes with some other type of addiction. This may be an addiction to prescription medication, such as sleeping tablets or tranquilizers, or an addiction to food. While you will definitely experience the health benefits of giving up nicotine, no one wants to replace one addiction with another!

A healthy diet, adequate exercise as well as natural and holistic treatments such as acupuncture, massage and herbal and homeopathic remedies can also help the smoker overcome nicotine addiction. Herbal and homeopathic treatments are a safe and effective means to reduce nicotine cravings (without giving you more nicotine) and will also help to prevent weight gain and alleviate anxiety and irritability. Basically, natural and holistic treatments not only lessen the urge to smoke, but also help you to restore balance in your body.

There are a number of ingredients such as Avena sativa, Garcinia cambogia and Gotu Cola (Centella asiatica) which will help to address the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal. They reduce nicotine cravings and balance the mood.

More details on these are available here

along with dietary recommendations as well.
i have heard that nicotine-s can be as strong as addiction on heroin.
i believe that.

the trouble is, that smoking is not only about nicotine. it is a complex problem, which involves hands movement habit, social life, friends, smell of smoke and deep breaths in to get it deep into your lungs, and many more...

to battle this you can try yoga to control your thoughts, emotions, breathing...

you can start to chew nicorette (for example) and slowly cut the doses to an absolute nil.
it may take months and it will need your discipline, but at the end it will be healthy and free YOU.
I-ve tried just about every method there is out there and there is only one I can recommend - NLP! It eliminates the cravings.
Gum patches and all the other just did not cut it for me, not to mention cold turkey which was the hardest, I even tried the electric cig and it is just no match to the real thing.

it’s the one that got me off the cigs and smoke free for GOOD even without gaining weight! :)

Good luck kicking the habit!
Matthew.
I think you should satisfy your nicotine urge. You gain nothing by stressing yourself out. Don-t feel guilty that you allowed yourself some nicotine. But you should prepare a plan to slowly free yourself from your nicotine addiction. This site might help you:

Has anyone tried bioresonance to quit smoking? -

Has anyone tried bioresonance to quit smoking? -

I quit smoking close to 5 years ago and stayed off, but not with bioresonance.

First of all, you must plan to quit and be sincere in your efforts. The more you put in front, the more successful you will be. Don-t just plan to quit one morning.

Second, you need a method to help you with the side effects. You are thinking about bioresonance, I used the patch. Different techniques work for different people. Do the one that works for you.

Warning: I had borderline high blood pressure and I used the patch wthout checking with my doctor. On a day I went to give blood, after taking my BP 4 times, the blood donor workers were ready to call an ambulance and wouldn-t tell me how high my BP was. After that, I ripped off the patch and went cold turkey (but that was 3 weeks into it, so I was pretty good to go)

Have a clear reason to quit. It doesn-t have to be a good one. People who quit because it costs too much start smoking again because they reason -hamburger is cheaper than t-bone-, so I-ll by hamburger and cigarettes instead of t-bone. Blackmail reasons also don-t work, like -I don-t want my children to see me smoke-. Quit for a reason such as, -It makes my breath, clothes, or hair smell-, or -I lose valuable time with others or productivity when I have to go outside to smoke-

Finally, have a backup plan. I used a fake cigarette to help me through. Some drug stores sell them, or you can fing a round ball point pen the diameter of a cigarette, cut it to length, and then put some cotton inside to act the way a filter on a cigarette does. This helps to simulate the hand motions that one is also addicted to, not just the nicotine. Also, you can use this anywhere, as not restricted like cigarettes are. You can use it at your desk, but then again, if others around you are smoking and you still want to go outside with them at -smoke time-, you can stand upwind of them and suck on your plastic cig.

As a final piece of advice, I needed something extra to kick me off into quitting smoking. Almost 5 years ago, a young, beautiful little girl in Seminole, FL was in the hospital with a Whelms tumor on her neck. Her mother stayed with her night and day until the danger was over. I loved both of these people very much and made a promise to God that if he would save this little 6 year old girl, I would also try to help myself by quitting smoking 2 1/2 packs a day of Marlboro reds. God did save this little girl, and he saved me too, as I am now close to (as of March 5, 2007) 5 years smoke free.

I don-t know for sure what will work for you, but I do know you have to commit to quit, get help, and get support from family, friends and others to make it work.

I wish you the best of luck in overcomming this!
There-s a reason why bio-resonance is peddled by a handful of clinics - it doesn-t work. if it did, everyone would be using it - the benefits of stopping smokers would be huge. but it doesn-t work - beyond a placebo effect. So stick to the advice above MZ

(This is my first question, and I don-t really know what I’m doing)
Please answer the question above best you can, or helpful tips would be great too
if you are smoking 5 sticks a day, reduce it to 4 sticks after a period of time then 3 and so on.....dont rush it cause you might feel anxious and you can have a mental breakdown. u can do it! and always bear in mind that smoking kills!
Hi, a few of my friends quit smoking after having hypnotherapy done, and they haven-t picked one up since. I suggest that!!!
We have a doctor that does a weekend radio show here. That topic came up recently. He said though there are things out there that people could try the best way is cold turkey...If it was me I would be chewing sugarless gum non stop...LOL..congratulations and trying answers it is fun...
You-ll notice that there aren-t a whole lot of answers to your question.

That-s because there is no easy way...but I-ll tell you what worked for me.

I met a guy who had a hole in his throat and used a voice box to talk. I suggest you visit a cancer ward. It does wonders for ya. I didn-t even crave a cigarette for a week. By that time, it was easy. I just didn-t want to go back to it.
