I just recently quit smoking? -

I just recently quit smoking. It will be three weeks tomorrow. I haven-t slipped or caved in at all. I-m actually quite proud of myself!

Anyways, I was wondering, I was getting some really bad acne when I was smoking and now it-s clearing up. My skin is almost clear. Does smoking cause acne?

And I drink a lot of water but my pee has been pretty yellow since I quit smoking. Is it because my body is cleansing itself?

Sorry to be gross.
Congratulations on quitting!

Yes, your body is cleansing itself of the toxins you-ve been putting in it. That-s why the acne is going away, and that-s why your pee has been so yellow.
Don-t be sorry, be proud! Congrats on kicking the habit! I guess the acne could be cause from a sudden change in your body, AKA you quitting smoking. And thats just toxins being cleaned from your body. Anyway, congrats!
I don-t know about the urine, but yes, smoking causes all kinds of skin problems.

Good for you! I am quitting soon - hope I do as well as you

congrat-s!!
Yes and yes. Be strong and proud.
ur a good person ur getting bak to ur good healthy self
CONGRATS!!

I want to quit smoking but if i dont smoke i eat,a lot, and i dont want that either, any sugestions,wt can i do? -

i noticed that i need to smoke,to much.If i dont though i take up the time by eating and i dont want to do either but theres so much time now and i dont know what to do.
Keep low calorie snacks around. Dried bananas, apples, carrot sticks etc. Good luck with quitting. Take up a hobby that uses both hand like needle point.
Chew some gum or suck a sucker when you are wanting to eat something!
First you must decide whether eating more is better or smoking. Obvious answer is eating more Now question arises how to regulate this over eating.Again answer is low calorie food, high fibre food which makes you feel full - lots of fruits.
I have gone through the same experience 15 years back when I gave up smoking totally. I started over eating because the same food was tasting lot better, I was feeling more hungry. Over the time, I shifted to healthier foods. I now feel fit. My coughing - panting when climbing stairs has vanished. Take my advice. Give up smoking immediately. You may not get the urge again..
This is how i quit.
First, get nicotine patches, and every week use a slightly smaller patch. Go at your own pace and don-t try to rush it, when i did this system it took 200 days to quit, for others it could be longer.

Here are some of the problems i ran into and how i dealt with them:

1)i missed the relaxing smoke sensation, when the smoke flows out of my mouth, so i go clove ciggaretts witch have even thicker smoke.

2)i made it more difficult because i smoked hookah which has nicotine. Stay away from hooka

How will I act after I quit smoking? -

How will I act after I quit smoking? -

I plan on quitting for my New Years resolution. How much of a bi*** will I turn into? hah.
After 30 years of suffering this vice I have mastered the quitting technique, I mean I give up each february and restart (because I do like smoking after all) at about end november. It-s been about 6 years now.
I find it makes me strong willed when I give up and can allow myself to enjoy smoking in the depth of winter when I sit indoors most of the time.

Anyway, in short.. when giving up be prepared to suffer all kind of pains for about a week, then it gets easier but for the whole month just be prepared to suffer, just see it as a transient month, then it-ll be over and you-ll be back to normal.
That-s about it.
Basically don-t see it like every minute you are suffering and everything is bleak and all those things that you get when you give up but just think that you have to suffer that one month and that is it.
It does get easier as the days pass by.
I am doing this with fasting now, but that-s another story.
Good luck and if/when you fail, NEVER feel weak: it-s rather NEVER MIND, but never give up the giving up, eventually you-ll get the hang of it. Id does help me A LOT when I know that in 9 months it-ll go back to smoking stage but I also have fun getting into no smoking stage as I associate it with swimming, cycling, dieting, generally cleaning up -house-.
good luck.
hey thanks! :) it is now the 5th, hope you are still holding on! Just think that you need to get fit for those summer swims at the beach :)

I just quit for the second time about a month ago. The first time I quit for 2 years. You won-t act any different after the initial bad times that only last a few days. I didn-t have so-called physical withdrawls, just major cravings. When you have the craving don-t give in just, tell yourself it will go away in ten minutes or less and it will. After quitting you will quickly feel better physically. You don-t notice it so much because you get a little healthier every day. If you start up again you will definatly notice your health getting bad fast.
everyone reacts differently , i quit on 15TH July-08 i used patches for 2 weeks and that was it .. i found it easy to quit after 43 years but i was a light smoker 8-9 per day , roll-your-own , have had the occasional craving . as i am 68years of age my body wont completely recover but you are probably young , good luck and hope you succeed
It will be very rough for a few months after. I highly suggest trying gum or patches to help you slowly wean off and make it less of a pain for you and your family and friends. It could help take the edge off and you are more likely to stick with it rather than if you try to quit smoking cold turkey.
Well, it-s great my dad quit, cancer free! Unlike three of my grandmas and 3 of my great aunts, quit before it-s to late. You just gotta do sorta what the person below said, change into the habbit of something else. My dad did a bad change, but it-s way more great then cigs, he placed his urge to smoke into pizza, soda, pizza, soda, bread, pizza, soda. Lol, it-s not that good, but it-s a hell of a lot better then cigs... Correct?
It is hard to quit. I watched my mom go through it and it is a long process. But if you are willing to give it up than do it. You will be pretty irritable, but after the whole process is done, you will feel so much happier and healthier. Quitting can also cause depression sometimes, so keep your chin up and keep pushing toward the goal. Good luck. :)
loll my grandma is 79 she quit smoking like in her 30-s she still has dreams that she picked up a cig and she still craves them

but it really depends on who you are i say u will be extremely pissed off and irritable for a few weeks and it will start to ease down...

goodluck and happy holidays
you will be very fidgety and irritable, i think it effects everyone differently but just explain to your friends that you might get a bit moody but its because you are quitting smokin, they will unserstand but you get better and better
good luck i hope you stick at it xxx
you-ll only be a ***** for a couple of days then you-ll feel better then before (breath better, more energy, taste better)
why wait until new year, if you quit now, you-ll feel better by the new year
No time like the present
It depends on the person. They do other things to keep their minds of of smoking. At my first ever job, one of my managers used to be on drugs really bad and also smoked cigs and all she would do is eat candy everyday all day to ease her fit that she was having.
Pretty big. Use the patch or gum for best results.

After you have quit for about 6 months, things will start to become normal, except for complaining about other smokers. YOu will be worse than people who never smoked at all.
my dad quit smoking, what he did is he quit cold turkey he said its the best way, if you do quit a good way to fight the urge off is to chew gum, a lot, he says it keeps his mind off the craving
Keep your mind off smoking . Try doing something regularly to distract you.

Examples.... sweets , chocolates , chips or any other thing you can get to munch on.
You probably will be irritable, but it won-t last and it-s a small price to pay for kicking the habit.

Best of luck to you!
yours strong will power make it easy and after quit use chew gum or chocolates so it do them
the same just not dependable on cigarettes and maybe more happy and proud for quitting ; )
It-s going to be hard. dont- asume you will just be able to -quit-. you will be cranky and irritable. but dont- go back!
Withdrawal symptom-s- U will probably take up more eating now, than ever before. It-s always like that.
after u Quit u will have to be doing some thing all the time like scratching ur face alot
different only for a few days
chew gum.
you will be o.k its not like your a crackhead

How to quit smoking cold turkey? -

My friend, a 14 year old male, smokes cigarettes about 6 times a day. he-s tried gum and sunflower seeds, but he really wants to quit cold turkey. any ideas?
Here is what I would recommend:

1) Use the patch and start on step 3. I used to smoke and when I did this, I started on step 2 because I was around 1-2 packs a day and couldn-t afford the patch long enough to do all 3 steps. I never felt a craving of nicotine on step 2 though

2) Have a pack of gum on hand at all times for when the oral fixation occurs

3) Do not drink alcohol for 2-3 months at least as these are the times it is most difficult for a newly non-smoker to not have one

4) kindly ask your friends who are smokers to not smoke when your friend is around. If they are true friends, they will happily take to this request.

5) Get some exercise because quitting smoking tends to add 15-20 pounds on.

* get past the 1st week and it gets easier from there.
Hypnosis.

My dad was a smoker for 25 years and after he gave hypnosis a go he-s never turned back since. May take a few sessions for it to work though.
Only two words for going cold turkey: self control.
It does help to have a hobby the he likes to do close to him so it can distract him.
try smoking ham.
let him smoke
it takes 21 days to make a habit, so try breaking it in the same time

What are the side effects of attempting to quit smoking? -

What are the side effects of attempting to quit smoking? -

For a regular, long-term smoker. Does it cause a change in a person-s behaviour -e.g. stressed, anger? Is that normal?
Physiologically, withdrawal from the addictive elements of cigarettes takes about 2 weeks. So yes, the person will feel very irritable and stressed and will be at war with himself and others and will have cravings to smoke. When this subsides, the psychological component of smoking might still be there and is another hurdle for the smoker intending to quit. It has been said that nicotine is as additive as heroin. If a person really psychologically wants to quit, he will. If not, he will continue to smoke despite his best intentions. This is true even of persons who use nicotine patches or hypnosis or that sort of thing.
Yes This is normal for a while, you can expect that the physical addiction to nicotine may make you nervous and irritable for about 48 hours. After that, there-s no further physical addiction. There is, of course, the psychological craving is quite short.
Withdrawal symptoms to those of drug addicts. Tobacco can be considered a drug.
When I quit, I was definitely -edgy- and felt more stressed. I paced around work all week for the first week feeling antsy and I was quick with my temper. It mellowed out after that.
Oh yeah, it sure does make you hard to get along with. This person needs to go rent a cabin somewhere so they can scream and yell all they want to! You are trying to kick a physical plus a pyschological addiction. Of course, you are going to act erractic...
First few days feels like your head has a hole on the top and cold air is rushing in your brain…no…no I’m not kidding. The most weird feeling ever!!!
Then craving starts, sweets, candies, lots of food…
Stress and anxiety comes right in and all you can think about is a big long endless cigarette… in middle of an important meeting your mind gets filled with cigarette brands, everywhere you look you see people smoking and you envy them.
Off course there is the issue of weight…I quit smoking 12 years ago and can’t get rid of the excess weight I gained over the first 3-month period.
But there is the great aspect in this nerve shattering process.
Taste is back…physical condition gets better and better every day (you can actually climb more than few stairs before sitting down to catch your breath), sleeping is easier (lighter), you don’t have this awful mouth taste and the feeling of accomplishment and self respect is sky high…
Support the person you’re close to…Praise as much as you can…it’s much needed during the rehabilitation process.
Yes it is totally normal to an extent the body goes through withdraw it lasts about two weeks it does get better. Be patient at least your friend is trying it helps to stay busy doing something with the hands.
Due to smoking for a long term you get addicted to Nicotine. Nicotine is one of the most addictive substances known to man. Powerful and very fast acting. This is the chemical which causes addiction to cigarettes.

-It is a drug and has many different effects on the body at the same time.
-After just one puff it begins to act on your central nervous system, brain and other parts of the body.
-It actually stimulates your system, even though it makes you feel relaxed.
-Nicotine affects chemicals in your brain and, after a puff, you usually feel good for a moment or two, which is why many smokers view smoking as stress relief when under pressure.
-Some areas of the brain are pleasure related and when stimulated give the feeling of relaxation and reduced anxiety.

Over time as you continue to smoke, your body learns to depend on nicotine. As a result when you stop smoking you get -nicotine cravings- one of many different withdrawal symptoms.

Nicotine Cravings And Withdrawal

Cravings and withdrawal symptoms when you quit smoking are a common experience.

It is the way your body reacts when it stops getting nicotine and all the other chemicals in tobacco smoke.

Some withdrawal symptoms will come and go over a period of a few days. Most are gone within three weeks and not every smoker is affected to the same degree.

Cravings. Each one lasts 3 -5 minutes, and may be strong. Over time however, cravings will happen less often. More about cravings below.

Headaches (occasional), indigestion, nausea, diarrhoea and sore throats rarely last more than four days.

Try usual over the counter remedies for these symptoms.
Insomnia and an increased tendency to dream.

-Tea and coffee contain caffeine and, without nicotine, your body absorbs much more of this stimulant, which can make you restless, irritable and sleepless for a while.

-Try drinking less tea and coffee, make your cups weaker.
-Consider coffee substitutes, water, fruit juice and caffeine-free cola drinks.

Coughing most commonly caused by the cilia that line your lungs cleaning out the tar and mucus.

Irritability, depression or anxiety are closely connected to the physical action of nicotine leaving your body and will lessen over one to three weeks.

Increased appetite and possible weight gain.

Tiredness and lack of concentration.

-Try and relax more during the first few weeks any tiredness will pass.
-Take a break from what your doing and take a short walk if possible to help concentration.-
symptoms vary from person to person, but yes, you can expect to see mood swings, they can complain of body aches, head aches, and are easily angered and agitated.
It is a very difficult addiction to overcome. You might suggest your friend look into the new drug on the market for smoking cessation called Chantix....have gotten some very encouraging reports from people who managed to quit quite easily and comfortably using it.
You miss the delightful feeling of a cigarette, especially with a beer and the honor of beign part of the last minority its acceptable to openly hate.
Seriously, though, the only real risk is you might become an anitsmoking fanatic and try to ruin it for those of us who choose to keep enjoying tobacco.
Good luck and don-t turn into a puritan.
crabbieness
while qwitting smoking you do tend to get angry an loose ya temper wif people an u might put on waight aswell coz when u qwit smokin yr uset 2 useing yr hand alot an 2 compensate 4 dat u end up eating food an dat 2 help stop thinkin about yr craving so u may pile sum waight on
Yes, those are behaviours of quiting smoking. Give them their space for a week or two. It WILL get better.
Poeple are affected in different ways while trying to quit smoking. For me it was a 3 week constant headache which in turn caused some irritability. If you care for the person, put up with it and it will get better in a few weeks. If you don-t care for the person why the hell do you care if they quit smoking or not!!!!!
The main side effect is you don-t die of cancer. The rest of it is the same for anyone coming off an addictive drug. All the things you have mentioned are true.

But they have a better chance of living longer!!
It probably affects everyone differently, but I can tell you that I smoked for four years through college and then tried to quit during grad school. I went cold turkey after averaging a half-pack a day. For two months I had a hard time sleeping, thought about smoking constantly, and was more irritable than normal. I wasn-t necessarily stressed or angry, just irritated. It was truly a struggle to not go buy a pack. I quit for 2 years, took it back up for 9 months, then quit again cold turkey, this time for good. It was much easier the second time. Hopefully it goes okay for you.

How can I quit smoking and not gain any weight? -

I-m eating all day long...
replace your cravings with excercise.

when you would normally stop and have a smoke, just walk around the building or block or whatever.

new thoughts will come to mind (there will be plenty to think about) once your moving and soon that cigarette really will just be a memory. It will feel so good to get a few minutes of fresh air instead of smoke in your lungs.

Good luck (I am trying too right now!)
it would prabably mean you need to stop eating. wow. that-s seems simple enough.

If I quit smoking pot will I lose weight? -

I-m trying to drop about 15 lbs.
yess you most definitly will.
Yes,
Its Healthier For You to quit anyway 2 reasons.

1.You have a better chance of living longer
2.You will get more excersise instead of just sitting around

Hope That Helps
you will lose weight because you won-t get the munchies and also you won-t be so lazy, this is just my guess though, as a well-seasoned pot head.
Yes. you won-t get the munchies any more.
Possibly, but is it really worth it?
yeah, because u will not get the munchies any longer.
with diet and exercise, they should melt of later=)
I quit smoking pot a few weeks ago. A week after I quit, I droped a few pounds. Then with healthy eating and walking everyday, the pounds are falling off. Good luck!
Stop smoking pot, which is really bad for you, and you will probably stop munching. Also, you won-t sleep or -couch potato- so much. More activity means more muscle, so you should lose the fat and gain muscle. But beware that muscle weighs more than fat, so you may initially gain.

I am not a pot smoker, but I have been around people who had to quit for financial reasons. And they become so irritable, I can-t stand to be around them. I am not a doctor, but I think people who quit should have a supply of Valium that first week or 10 days or whatever it takes to get the addiction out of your cells. I don-t know of any non-prescription neutriceutical that can help calm while withdrawing from pot.

You also need to consider whether you are trying to lose weight or gain muscle tone. Both will make you look better. But muscle tone will make you feel better, more energetic.

How do i get my Mom to quit smoking? -

I really don-t want her to die from cancer or get one of those machine things through the throat. She smokes 4-5 a day and I keep telling her to quit but she just ignores me. What would be a good way to make her stop smoking.
Good on you for being worried about your mom. This is a tough situation because at the end of the day it is her choice to wether or not she quits smoking.

All you can do is keep trying to convince her. Smokers are stubborn people (I know because I used to be one of them).

Let her know how much you and the rest of the family love her. Let her know the pain you will all go through if you were to lose her. Putting your mom through a big guilt trip is a hard thing to do but it may be your only option.

If you can, try to guide her to our blog. It has some really great ideas and information. This may help to convince her.

Don-t listen to those who say stop trying. Never stop trying, if you quit then she sure as hell won-t.

Visit our blog for more information and to download our free book.

Good Luck, I hope you get your wish

My mom smokes as well and when I was younger I would always tell her to quit and tell her she was going to die from it and she finally told me one day that it didn-t help. She said that it made her more nervous about it all together and a lot of people smoke more when they are nervous.

You have to let her make that decision. You can sit down with her and express your concerns and tell her that you would worry less about her if she did quit. Let her know that you love and care about her and you want whats best. Tell her you are willing to help through online smoking programs or even community programs. Do some research on those and present them to her and tell her you are willing to support her when she decides to quit.
she must decide for herself to stop smoking. However, if you can convince her, there are wonderful medications and interventions available if you can get her to speak with a doctor. Serotonin uptake medications can help, as well as medications that are also used to help weight loss.

Hope you are successful. My grandfather died from lung cancer, and my uncle smoked for 40 years and only quit when he had to have a lung removed. Smoking increases risk of all kinds of cancer, not just lung cancer.
Not gonna happen. Think about how you reacted when told to do something.

Mom knows it isn-t good for her; but she could do worse. Suggest she try going 3-4 hours without a smoke; if she can do that, she has a good chance of quitting if SHE wants. The smoke -patches-, etc., cost over $100. per month - require 2-3 months. When SHE-s ready (not you), acupuncture by some one who knows how to use the two -TIM-MEE- points and there-s 80% chance to stop smoking. That-s about $100. and only needs ONE visit! Good luck!
My mom was the same way!

but she wanted to quit so truthfully you cant do anything to make her stop unless she actually wants to Quit.

but try showing her all the bad things that smoking is causing.

and then tell her how much better shell be able to breath and such if she does quit.
You don-t. It-s her decision, and hers only. 4-5 a day? That-s not even worth getting emotional over. My dad was a 3 pack a day smoker before cutting it to just a pack a day, and he-s still going strong.
Hide her smokes!!!!

How do people quit smoking bud? -

Im trying and it is one of the hardest things I have attempted to change, in my life. I think tobbacco is tuffer to quit though. Uh, like the other person said, you have to want to,then it is much easier. Either way.....keep busy, all day long, as much as you can. Dont let yourself get hungry. Drink lots of cold water.Especially in the first days of detoxing. Keep drinking it anyways :) Stay away from users. Its an instant fast track back. Remind yourself constantly of the downside to using. When we want to use. we think fondly, of getting high and forget all the negative crap that comes along with it. For instance, being zoned out all the time, memory issues, spending $ on drugs, instead of food and bills.killing motivation, people thinking im a moron, Me feeling like im a moron lol etc....add to it what you will. The more reasons you have to remind yourself, the better. Be greatful you only struggle with a pot issue, and not a chemical one....So much easier to kick. Chemicals and booze store differently in our bodies than pot, and cause extreme illness when detoxing( about 3-4 weeks to be out of system) Pot is psychological. It takes about 6 months, before your brain clears all the smoke out and you can think clearly again. Best of luck to you.......
Start smoking the kiff only.

Since the hit will be minimal, you will soon come to realise it is not worth the effort.....and you will quit.

Better than going cold turkey.

If you go cold turkey, you will always remember the quality of the buds...as they will be the last memory of smoking weed.

If you finish by smoking the kiff, then the memories will be of a mediocre smoking experience.
Easily, it is not physically addictive.

However, if it has become a habit, you really just need some self-control.
you go cold turkey and pray and ask God to help you not to be addicated anymore and just really go cold turkey its really hard to do but God can help you
changing your group of friends, exercising, and getting busy. ---worked for me, I still see my old friends occasionally but don-t hang out with them when they are with mary jane.
you have to want to quit, then you can. promise
they just say-this buds for you, not me- and they quit.
I agree with seashore honey...

More money due to not spending in on cigarettes.
Breath, hair, and clothes smell better.
Ability to walk a flight of stars, jog or even run.
Annoying phlegmy cough disappears.
Lower blood pressure.
Lower chance of heart disease.
I hadn-t smoked for a year. I got extreme stress one weekend and smoked a pack daily for 3 or 4 days. At first no prob except I felt like I was wasting my money on nothing. Then my throat swelled close and I couldn-t talk for 3 or 4 days and when I had to I sounded ready to die. I also felt a lot of pain. I felt the tormented need to smoke and when I did I felt like I was swallowing coals.

Haven-t smoked again for a couple weeks, my skin is dewey and nice, I have energy, less headaches, and I am in a better mood, having to face my moods without focusing on the cigarette.
I weened off cigs with Quest Cigarettes which helped a lot for me. I was irratable for weeks and had a few headaches.

Tried to consciously breathe when I got really stressed and wanted a cigarette desperately. That worked REALLY well for me.

Started to walk and workout which got a lot easier the longer I quit. I used gum, Twizzlers, and cinnamon sticks to curb my oral fixation.
I am quitting smoking cold turkey since 4-15 after over 30 years one pack a day of smoking. Here are some side effects or withdrawal symptoms that I have or had,

-Heart palpitations
-Few diarrhea
-Night sweats and mild insomnia
-Tingling/numbness in feet and legs
-Tight chest, dry mouth and few phlegm
-Anxiety...
i have been smoke-free for about 8 months now. Honestly after the first couple days, it was pretty easy(a little more irritable) although i did have craving at certain times, but it was more habit (IE driving home, after work, etc.) after about 3 weeks , i hit a point where the next week i was definetly craving them, and aftre that i was fine. hang tough!
After 48 hours of not smokeing your sense of tase and smell get imidiately better, you have more energy as your lungs function better.. your metabolism is increased as well... You lose the foul smoke odor, and you become less iratable.

DID YOU DO IT?? heres the info: im a male who has smoked for roughly 20 years. ive tried patches-smoked with them on!-,cold turkey and welbutrin. welbutrin is an anti-depressant thats suppose to help quit smoking too-didnt happen. im thinkin of cold turkey again mixed in with ALOT of praying. im tired of the nasty habit, increasing taxes and just want to be around longer for my children. any suggestions???
i think you tried it all...i know it-s addicting..just ****** quit...it-s hell to quit and the mood swings are the worst...i think the patch took the nicotine cravings away from me but the habit was still there so i doubled my nicotine intake making it even harder to quit...so every time i craved one i-d gulp a lot of water and that tinny taste in my mouth went away and i was so bloated from all that water i felt naucious...and the water is flushing your system of toxins...it takes 48 hours to be nicotine free...the rest is you mind you have to train...you-ll crave them for the next 20 years...hang in there and good luck brother
I did it with acupuncture...

My mom did it after 40 years of smoking, she tried the gum but went cold turkey. The first two weeks were the worst and now she-s been smoke free 18 months.
I researched this to help her and discovered people who went cold turkey have the best success because you have to give up the nicotine somehow. She chewed lots of gum and gained weight too.
God bless you, cause you will need that prayer.
I smoked for 22 years.Quit cold turkey.Had a little help.Emphysema, copd, asthma and bronchopneumonia.Along with a family that cared if I lived or died.I haven-t touched any tobacco in 19 and 1/2 years. My father-in-law died with emphysema, but that didn-t even slow me down smoked for another 14 years. You have to want to quit or it isn-t going to happen.I can-t walk more than 100 feet with out having to stop and catch my breath. Not on oxygen yet. I-ll pray for you.
It took my kids telling me he could grow up and smoke like me. He couldn-t wait. I knew it was time for those ******* to go! You just gotta wrap your head around it and think of your kids. It actually goes ok if you do that. Plus, skip the gum and patch, try the wellbutrin, and treat yourself to a really expensice cigar once a week. Knowing that is coming up might help you get through. Good luck!
you can do it,baby..establish or re-establish a regular exercise routine..get the kids involved..think of every seven minutes you spend with them as a smoke.
your body is dirty. It is full of toxins. your body stores all these toxins and Now you need to detx yourself to cleanse . These will get you to stop wanting them cause my husband was a bad smoker and I had him cleanse he-s body and when he went to have one he couldn-t stand the taste and the smell of it... Go to my website and check it out if you like and good luck
A doctor told me I had to quit and prescribed nicorette gum. That stuff, lots of gum, AND BEING AWAY FROM OTHER SMOKERS. Don-t think I-d have been able to do it around others who smoked. Take a month off if you have to and go where there are no smokers. It-s GREAT to be rid of the stinky stuff. It took a couple of years before my hand quit reaching for my pipe. (smoked cigarettes too tho)
I wish I could help you out here. I am in the same predicament. The only problem is now that my insurance covers many of the products to stop smoking my DR. won-t prescribe them. He says he doesn-t want to introduce another product into the mix. I quit drinking and many illegal drugs but the cigarettes got a hold on me.
find a hypnotherapist who specializes in hypnotizing to quit smoking. I have heard it works great.
my father quit after smoking for 45 years. He did it when his doctor told him he had to have a CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Graft) because his arteries were clogged from damage done from smoking cigarettes. That was five years ago. Today he is in perfect health. Ok, that-s probably not the answer you were looking for, but it-s something for you to think about. Good luck!!!
hey well i smoked for about 13 years didnt start till about 20-21 and stoped t about 35 i stoped cause its bad but i just quit oneday cause my chest hurt really bad..my boss smoked too and i was always trying to keep up with him to impress ihim, but one day might chest hurt so bad it scared me and i said either i quit or i die ..lol so i chose to quit..it took physical pain for me to quit and you know i never had those pains agian so it ws for the best....i feel much better know..nand i used to think i could imagine going out to a club w/o a smoke or takiing a driv w/o one but i just ate sunflower seeds and chewed **** loads of gum..replacing each stick frequently..to rid myslef of the hand mouth thing and here it is like a few years later and still smoke free..good luck you can do it! first 3 days are the hardest but replace your hand mouth addiction with seeds or gum(sugarfree) believe me you wer not born with a cigg in your mouth so you dont relly need one like a ir or water its just a matter of self control..everytime you want one take a look at a pic of your family and decide which is more improtant..carry it with you in your wallet..look at it reguarly and think about which is more imprtant ..that dam lung cancer ,smelly, burnt weed......? or seeing your children grow up..retireing in a nice place with your wife..breathig easie everymorning..NOT smeling like and ashtray..being able to taste food again the right way..and knowing your doing something to imrove your life and the life of your family...U can do it!!!
Use wHat GOd gave you ..and you wont have any problems...
Good Luck,
Monte
I smoke for 20 years then quit for love....then I started again..the second time I quit it was much harder...I used nicorettes and had lotsa support at home...it is a really addictive drug..but really if you REALLY want to quit you will..often people don-t succeed on their first try....keep trying..sounds to me like you are ready to break the habit...the cravings will be bad for about 3 days...after that your body has completely rid itself of nicotine..not that the cravings won-t come back...but they eventually will taper off to nothing.I-ve haven-t had any urge for years and years..I-ve been smoke free now for 15 years. and..you will feel so much healthier...go for it..I believe you can do it. Do it for your children.
I smoked for 15 years. It is very difficult to stop, but the key is that you really really have to want to stop. I used the lowest dose patch available. On the day, you are ready to stop, douse your smokes under water adn throw them out. Throw out all matches, lighters, and ashtrays. You do not need that stuff anymore.

Everytime you reach a milestone, a week, two weeks, one month, you need a reward that is non food related. A massage, a manicure, a facial, a dvd you have really wanted, go to a ball game, whatever it is for you, do it. You spent the money on smokes, now spend the money on something else. When a year had passed, I bought myself a new car. I felt I deserved it.

Everytime you want a smoke, it will cost you a half hour walk. Do not take any money with you as you cannot be trusted not to walk to a store that sells smokes. Really. Always pay at the pump, around here you can smoke in gas stations, and it was a real problem for me, just stay out. No alcohol during this time either, seriously. You need to pretend that you are an addict that needs cared for, why? Because you are, you need to be prepared.

The walks were key for me. They got me over that AGGGHH! feeling, got me away from my family when I was irritable, and that is how I became a runner. It may not happen for you, but you will avoid the weight gain that everyone says is unavoidable.

Good luck, I hope this helps you in some way...
I smoked two packs a day for thirty years, cold turkey was the only thing that worked, it was tough as hell the first few days but it gets easier as you go, take it one day at a time and don-t get discouraged if you backslide, I did a few times, just remember why you-re doing it, it gets easier, believe me, I haven-t had a cigarette in three years, good luck, it-ll be the best thing you can do
My husband used to smoke. I hate cigarette smoke and when I became pregnant started throwing out ultimatums. He tried patches and then zyban but he wasn-t ready. Then he wanted to quit again and try zyban again and you are supposed to smoke the first week on the pills to let them get in your system. I thought since he was ready and had patches left he should use the zyban and the patches. He was so sick he was puking and in such a fog he couldn-t even drive. I finally called the doc after 4 days and they said both contained meds that shouldn-t be mixed. For some weird reason it worked. Maybe he was ready. That was 10 years ago and he now occasionally smokes a cigar but then gripes about how bad he feels the next day.
Hi. First off I want to say, you CAN do it! You have to have the right mindset. I smoked for over 20 years and stopped cold turkey. How? Because I wanted to do it for myself. I set myself up to STOP. If you quit, it gives you room to start again. But if you stop, there is no room to start. If you smoke menthol, grab a mint and suck on it. If you have the need to do something with your hands, use a short straw to hold and even suck in fresh air.

The nicotine craving lasts for a whole three minutes, that-s not long. You can last and stand it for that amount of time. I called it the three minutes of hell. After the first five days, it will get easier and easier. It-s a waiting game and you can and are much stronger than tobacco.

Good luck!

Sooo.. have you stopped yet?! ;)
I quit when I moved to a new city, this helped because I lost my triggers. I also started chewing a lot of gum.
Never given up. Know how hard it is to quit, so you never want to start again. DO NOT SMOKE ANYTHING. Do not take a drag. Put the tempting cigarettes in a glass of water and look at it every day and think of your lungs. Think of your kids lungs. I did that but could not quit so I just put off smoking another cigarette for 25 years. I promised myself a cigarette then following sex. I had smoked for over 37 years at least two packs a day, but it has been over 20 now since I had a smoke. I WAS LUCKY I DID
STOP SMOKING WHEN I DID AND THAT IT WAS NOT TOO LATE FOR ME. TRY EVERYTHING; DO IT.
I have a question for everyone who has SUCCESSFULLY quit smoking cigarettes. that question is: HOW IN THE WORL -

How long it takes nicotine to leave body after you quit smoking? -

How long it takes nicotine to leave body after you quit smoking? -

I smoked for 35 years,up to 2 packs aday when I quit
Nicotine metabolizes very quickly in the body, with a half-life of about two hours. Nicotine metabolites are longer-lived. The most stable nicotine metabolite is cotinin, which has a half-life of about 16 hours.

http://pharmrev.aspetjournals.org/cgi/co…

Cotinine disappears in 2-4 days.

http://www.somazone.com.au/content.asp?D…

Don-t confuse the longevity of nicotine and its metabolites in your body with how long the effects of smoking linger.
I heard some peopel say and much as 3 hours.
All the studies I read about quiting smoking say that the tar and nicotine tak up to 10 years to completely leave the body. You start noticing a change after a few days, and after about two weeks you start to notice a big difference.
believe it or not, it only take a week for it to be out of your system completely. the 3rd and 4th day are the hardest, because thats when your body starts to react from not having a daily dosage of nicotine in your system. you will always have a hard time iwith it on and off for months afterwards, but its a mental craving, nothing physical. if you can make it through the first 4 days you have it beat. after that you will feel it get so much easier. (just try to keep your stress level down though) thats the main cause for people to go back to smoking. fight the urge by excersicing or drinking alot of water and chewing gum.
I-ve heard 3-4 days. I wish you luck, hopefully you have the willpower to quit. My wife claims to -try- then forgets or just tries to hide the fact she doesn-t have the strength to quit.
It takes 6 months for your lungs to be entirely free of tar and nicotine.
i believe its 72 hours and after that its all in your head so if you can convince your mind you don-t need it anymore your home free....as with so many things in life its all in your head....good luck though cigs. are a nasty habit.
I quit smoking over five years ago and focused on getting fit. As I recall back then, I was told nicotine takes three days to leave your bloodstream, but it takes about one month to break the habit of holding a cigarette in your mouth or hands. It then takes 9 months for your lungs to become free of tar and about five years to get to the point where your body feels as if you had never smoked at all.
If I recall, It takes about 48 hours for nicotine to exit the system, from there on out, it-s all in your head

When I quit smoking, on the first few days I wake up sweaty? -

How can i get my daughter who is pregnant to quit smoking cigarettes? -

She is 21 and not living with me.
I recommend cutting down gradually until your quit date. I did this. I cut down to half a pack. I did this for three months. I smoked by the puff, not by the cigarette. I took only the amount of nicotine that was necessary to satisfy my urge to smoke and put the rest of the cigarette out.

After doing this for three months I quit cold turkey.

Now I-m eating more candy to distract me but its been 8 months. I have urges but they don-t last more than a second or two. If they-re lasting more than that then you-re concentrating on the cigarette. Don-t do it. Concentrate on something else.
The one thing that made it possible for me to quit smoking was that I didn-t want to do any damage to my new husband. It seems a baby would be an even bigger motivation.

Try to do some research (Google it) to find info about how harmful it is to a fetus (and to a newborn once it comes out, too). Then give it to her to read. Maybe some organization could send you pamphets or something about it, too.
I think it would help if you make her aware of the advantages of quitting:

http://www.knowabouthealth.com/cigarette…

This will keep you and her motivated throughout. My friend was chain smoker and he quit. He use to say, just be mentally strong and you can do it. Here are some tips that helped him:

http://www.knowabouthealth.com/8-easy-ti…

This is something that makes me really angry. Perhaps you can present the health implications that smoking has to a baby, make it as hard hitting as possible.
slap her around alil

steal her cigs, and throw them away!

Is it harder to lose weight or quit smoking? -

Is it harder to lose weight or quit smoking? -

I-ve been smoking a pack a day for 12 years. My girlfriend just had a baby 6 months ago and is trying to lose around 50 pounds. Who has it harder? Help us end our argument.
Hmm. Well it really depends on the person to be honest. Some people can lose weight very easily and quickly; while others have to struggle. Some people don-t have that addictive of personalities while some people will get addicted to almost anything.

Judging from the information you provided, I-m going to have to say it-s going to be harder for you to quit smoking since you-ve been smoking a pack a day for 12 years. Your girlfriend apparently was somewhat normal weight prior to having a baby.

I tried quitting for quite a while... smoked about 1/2 a pack a day to over a pack a day for 5 years depending on alcohol consumption and peer smoking atmosphere. I tried to quit multiple times. Now I just smoke a cigarette a week approximately. Only in social situations. What got me to quit? Coughing up nasty sputum, dark little bits of nastiness. I also read up on emphysema and lung cancer and pleurisy and chronic bronchitis. Maybe you should do the same; because after finally realizing how much smoking daily was adversely effecting me I figured I was probably due for one of those four things I had read about eventually... it made it a lot easier to quit knowing how truly bad for you smoking is... even if it is enjoyable. You don-t need to focus on quitting etc... just focus on how horrible cigarettes really are for most people (some could smoke 2 packs a day and live to be 100 with no problems), if you encounter any adverse effects at all from smoking, just focus on them until it-s a natural decision to quit or moderate to a once a week or once a month habit. It makes quitting a lot easier than quitting for someone else or for just the sake of -quitting since everyone else is-. And if you aren-t effected at all by smoking, well try to quit for the sake of your kid not picking it up since he might not be as immune to the adverse effects.

For the weight loss one, if your girlfriend wasn-t obese over too overweight prior to the birth, she-ll have no troubles at all losing the weight doing cardio five times a week with light weight lifting and something like yoga. Of course she would need to combine the exercise with a relatively sane diet(high protein but balanced with fat and carbs, no Atkins stuff) and nothing eaten in the last 3 hours before sleep. She-ll be back to normal in no time.

So between the two of you, quitting smoking will be harder unless you can get your mind to subconsciously make you quit as a defense mechanism, then you-ll have a much easier and quicker time than the 1/2 a year it would take for your girlfriend to lose the weight properly(e.g. no stretch marks from super diets[hope she was using lotion during pregnancy]).

Good luck to both of you though. Hopefully my advice can make it a little easier for both of you. It-s easy for either of you if you-re both in the correct mind frame!
They are both equally as easy. Losing weight takes discipline, you have to eat less, you can-t eat 6 times a day 2 plates per sitting and expect to lose weight, you also can-t go to McDonalds everyday. Lower you carbs and calories, eat fruits for your carbs, the sugar in them digests slower so it lasts. For smoking, find what makes you smoke, whether it-s driving your car, drinking, or someone really annoying. If you can somewhat phase this out than you can break the -addiction.- I don-t believe anything is addicting, people are just so lazy these days. But in final, it will be harder for you, she will naturally most of that weight as long as she goes to her diet that she had before she became pregnant. You have done the same thing for 12 years, you have gotten into a pattern, try switching it up, try doing something else, chew gum, hang out with your kid more, do you really want your kid smelling you when you smell like smoke unless you smoke around your kid (Which I really hope you don-t) I quit smoking by myself, I just woke up one day and decided that I didn-t want to smell like that and I didn-t like coughing, flem, dryness, skin coloration, losing weight, tooth coloration, etc., plus I like tasting things, you lose your tasting ability when you smoke. Use the internet, it seems you already spend enough time on it, there is plenty about both of these subjects.
Weight
much harder to lose weight
I think they are both addictions that are difficult to quit. Even though some people might disagree with the food as an addiction, but for some we can-t just eat one cookie or have one slice of pizza. We always have to have more, and it never seems to end, and soon you-re looking at 10-20 extra pounds. Either way if you like something it-s hard to give it up. Good luck to both of you.
Good Question, In my opinion they are both extremely hard but I had a baby 7 months ago and just started a diet about a month ago to lose the extra pounds. Smoking on the other hand I won-t even attempt because It-s just too d*amn hard. So the answer would be smoking is much harder. Hope that ends an argument.
i think personally smoking is harder because u r addicted to it and your body feels that they need that nicotine but if u do win this argument don-t rub it in her face because that wont make her feel very good because she had a baby and producing that and removing it from her body is one of the hardest things and something that u will never be able to understand.
Well, you should know that quiting smoking is not that easy, BUT you can, you just need to have the ability to continue, and that-s but playing sports -- swimming is always the good choice -- and by that you will loose weight and and grow healthier

Good luck
Peace be upon you!

Loosing weight is harder than quiting smoking.
Bcz in the holy month of RAMADAN during fast, one can easily quit smoking and drinking and it is also good to quit bad eating habits.
quit smoking..
Well just depends are you addicted to food or ciggarettes, I think you can quit
so quit!
well, for me, it-s equally hard but it may be easy for the both of you if you focus on the goal. And if you both figure out the benefits of quitting cigarettes and losing pounds you could have never debate again for that argument.

enjoy a healthy life!
Both, but you can see a doctor about a prescription on pills that make you stop smoking. Yes, it do exist, but I don-t know what site. Just talk to your doctor and the weight thing, just change the way you diet and exercise daily.
It-s equally as hard, but I-ve found smoking harder to kick. LOL why argue about it though? You can always just have make up sex :-
I think its equal, neither of you have it harder than the other, instead of arguing about it.. motivate each other.

I recently quit smoking cold turkey.. its not easy, it won-t be for a really long time. I have not had a cigarette for about 2 months now, and still have the cravings, that-s what people don-t tell you, that-s why people fail at quitting.. just know it will take about a year to get over the cravings, but it gets easier and easier throughout..
I also used to weigh 340 lbs, and lost 105 lbs at the gym, in about a year, when I went to the gym when I was 340, I went by myself and it was really hard, cause there wasn-t really the motivation, my buddy started comin to the gym with me, and it got much easier to keep going to the gym, cause I had someone there with me.. pick up a few hobbies if you want to quit smoking, and include going to the gym with your girlfriend, it will help you quit smoking, and your girlfriend lose 50 lbs...

(I still ate what I wanted too also.. eating also helps you quit smoking, which if you go to the gym it will balance out the eating.. a mile a day on a treadmill burns ALOT of energy)
I have heard that it takes about 7 tries to stop smoking. I buried my boyfriend of 12 years last year because of COPD, a lung disease. He couldn-t quit.
I have been on a lot more than 7 diets. I lost weight, but food being my Valium, whenever big, bad things happened, the weight came right back.
A thought: when you quit smoking, you never have to smoke again. When you lose weight, you have to keep eating.
Help each other, but don-t nag. Don-t make food a reward.
Cigarettes are more addictive than heroin. It is hard for a woman to loose weight because she is the one who bears children and fat helps protect the child from injury during pregnancy. Men can loose weight much faster than women and women will usually give up cigarettes for the sake of a child either in the womb or out. So why argue about it? Just help each other by understanding you both have a tough job ahead of you and if you work together it will make it easier for both of you. Think of the well being of this new baby. Second hand smoke is really the pits for a new baby...it will make it more susceptible to infections of the ear, nose, and lung...and a too fat mommy will have a hard time keeping up with the toddler in a few months who will want to run and get into everything...so you both now have something to focus on other than yourselves and for the best alternative for all three of you work together!! Good luck...

Has anyone ever quit smoking and dealt successfully with the weight gain? -

My mother quit smoking two years ago and has since gained 25 pounds. She has tried, diets, several workout plans and is now seeing a nutritionist and nothing is helping. Shes driving herself (and everyone else) crazy. Any words of wisdom?
There are three reasons why people tend to put on weight when they quit smoking:
1.Generally, for most people their appetite improves because the toxins in tobacco have the effect of suppressing appetite. It’s tragic that this is one reason why young women start to smoke, because they believe it will help them keep weight off. When your appetite improves you may find you want to eat more. ADVICE: Eat healthily and get active. That means nutritious foods in satisfactory portions – don’t pig out on rubbish foods with high sugar, fat and salt content and do some exercise.
2.The minor physical withdrawal symptoms from nicotine feel exactly like being a bit hungry. So don’t make the mistake of trying to satisfy the withdrawal from nicotine with food. ADVICE: Recognise that during the first 5-7 days the empty hungry feeling isn’t real hunger. Have a drink of water or do a quick relaxation exercise instead of eating.
3.Many smokers make the mistake of searching for a substitute to replace the cigarette. Often this will be lollies or high calorific snacks like chocolates, biscuits, cream cakes or sausage rolls! ADVICE: Do not use any substitutes – you don’t need them.

If you follow this advice you won’t put on weight, in fact you’ll lose it, because once you quit you’ll feel much more motivated to get out there and be active.

Good luck!

Allen Carr’s Easyway To Stop Smoking http://www.allencarr.com.au/states/qld
I smoke for about 7 years and I just quit. Yes, I-m also experiencing the same thing..gaining weight! my weight before was only 115 pounds and now I am 127 pounds. I-ve been cutting my food like no rice, and eat in small amounts but it just isnt working. My friend adviced me to go on a cardio activity like badminton and as much as possible do more exercise, walk,. climb the stairs and not use elevator in order to lose all the excess weight. I-m trying and I hope to be successful.
I thought that smoking more actually makes you gain weight due to the increase in appetite? What substance are you referring to?
-Keep busy- is the best advice I could give her. I failed a quit over last summer because there was simply nothing for me to do. I found myself smoking out of boredom, and when that wasn-t an option, I-d munch on something instead.

But, this last run (since January) I-ve considered successful since I-ve been absolutely swamped at work and school. In fact, I-ve actually lost about 10 lbs since I quit. There-s always something to do, so whenever cravings pop up they are almost immediately quashed by work, or collapsing from exhaustion.

Does she have any hobbies? You know how they what they say about -idle hands- - it-s kind of true in this context.

Just quit smoking and Im scared? -

I just woke up in the middle of night frightened. I can breathe just fine but I feel a great deal of chest congestion, not only that Im freezing. Has anyone else experienced this after quitting cold turkey? This is my like my 6th day and I never want a cigarette again
You-re experiencing withdrawal symptoms. They will eventually go away. Try some relaxation exercises using deep breathing.

Here-s one.

Close your eyes and tense all the muscles in your body and then relax them.
Inhale deeply filling lungs with air and hold it.
Slowly release the air as you exhale and keep doing it until you feel you can-t breathe out anymore.
Imagine all the stress leaving your body.
Repeat 3 or more times.

Hope this works.
I have suffered exact what you are describing. I took a very hot bath and it helped clear all of the crap out of my lungs.

With that said though, if it continues on for more than a few hours, you should consider going to a doctor and having him check you out. But more than likely your system is probably just starting to clear up.

Also sign up with

so you can keep a running tally of money you-ve saved and days you-ve added to your life.
After 7 days, it-s all out of your system, the rest of it is pure mental.

Good luck!!
me too.it is like i dont even wan to touch the cigarette again...

How can i help my friend to quit smoking? -

he wants to. but his will is too weak to break the habit. what do you fellas suggest i would do to help him
Tell him to go to vapersforum.com and read.... A Lot! Then go to youtube and look at video reviews. Then jump on the bandwagon and get one.
Then he can do what he wants to quit in HIS own time and time frame.
It-s NOT just a nicotine addiction.... Go.... read....learn..... vape
I have been using green smoke for a while now and i can tell u its 100% a healthier alternative than smoking! no carcinogens carbon monoxide or tar, just nicotine and u can use it to ween yourself off if u like....... but the best part is it looks and feels like u are really smoking but its just water vapour!! check out the website and read up on the benefits I-m sure u will be as impressed as i was!!! u can also use this code disc10-7097 to get 10% off the price should u decide to join us green smokers lol hope this helps

http://greensmoke.com/7097.html

Tell your friend to use reverse psychology. I used this myself when I was thirty-six years old (I was consuming a minimum of two packs a day then.)
Suggest Chantix, it-s pretty close to a miracle drug.

He-s not weak, BTW, nicotine is one of the most addictive drugs known.

I want need to quit smoking pot so i can get clean and go to the Air Force. however, i dont WANT to quit smoking. how the hell do i quit??
You-re gonna have to replace that habit with something just as fulfilling since you don-t wanna give it up. Once you get clean and get into bootcamp then the hard part is over cuz you won-t have time to think about it. You don-t have to quit forever but maybe going into the military will help you deal with your issues and you-ll want to continue this way. I quit smoking without doing it for me (for my hubby to be strong cuz he was medically ordered to do so) after smoking for over ten years. I didn-t want to do it but it was a matter of force and love. You just have to force yourself and think that the benefits are so much better than what you-re doing right now. Good luck!!!!
people are stupid. marijuana is too addicting. the THC is what you become addicted to. trust me on this. i-m a pot smoker myself. it-s hard to quit after you-ve done it for awhile, but it-s only hard the first few days. you actually begin to forget how bad you want it.
weeds not addicting the feeling or high is what is addicting but you should easaly be able to over come that i did if its harder than that just try to get help from a quit smoking thing they help people who smoke pot to
Marijuana is not addictive just stop or go see a psychologist and get help.
Just ******* stop, pot is retarded might wanna quit now.
Get rid of what you have and don-t buy any more.
go to a rehab center eat dutura or convince yourself you want to quit and then quit

don-t talk to me for at least two weeks. i-m gonna be one grumpy m-f-er.
i just quit by reading alan carrs (not the comidian) easyway to stop smaoking. at it really worked. there is a bit in the back for you loved ones to read. just ask them not to mention smoking etc or to patronise you if your a bit cranky.
i honestly recomend the book though
Plenty of encouragement.
Keep anything to do with cigarettes out of the house.
If they smoked too they could also try giving up.
They could suggest exercising together or taking up a new hobby.
Set up a savings account for the cigarette money.
pressure into stopping. dont be annoying, but dont let him light up. it can take true intervention to get that person to stop smoking
Not smoke around me for a start, hug me when I needed it, encouragement, try not to wind me up.......
Not mention it

I want to quit smoking marijuana. Any advice on stopping the weed addiction? ? -

Does anyone know a good solution to do this once and for all?
Marijuana has been a growing problem in my life, but I know I need to get away from this drug.
one thing that does help is keep it away from you. Hang out with people thats do not smoke marijuana. Tell some one close to you to not let you smoke it. You can also punish your self. For instance, if you smoke tonight then you wont allow you self to go out for the next 3 nights. If worse comes to worse seek help from lake view health or Recover Connection.

They say the first step to recovery is to admit you have a problem and seek advice. so far your doing great keep it up.
Yeah, I just wanted to respond to Joshua H.

Switching to smoking cigarettes would actually be WORSE for you. Don-t suggest that to people.

Marijuana itself isn-t an addicting substance, I believe it-s the feeling it brings on that-s addicting. If you smoke pot and like the feeling, when you come down from your high you-re going to miss that feeling of being carefree and happy. If you find yourself needing to fulfill that feeling, that-s when it becomes addicting. I believe anyone with a drug or alcohol addiction has some sort of emptiness in their life. When they notice they have that sort of hole, they try and fill it with drugs, which usually leaves them worse off than before.

I suggest you do some soul searching. Try and find what truly makes you happy in life. Try and find something you really enjoy and brings you that natural high. If possible, let close ones know about your problem, in hopes they will support you in kicking the habit. Most importantly, try and find things to do to keep you occupied so you aren-t just sitting around.

Keep a strong mental state of mind. You don-t run on marijuana, you don-t need marijuana to function. You yourself do not need marijuana.

Good luck ! :)
i wonder how many respondants here have actually gone through trying to quit weed. denying its addictive properties does not make the desire to smoke go away. alot of weed addicts have a deep emotional need for the anesthesia that ganj provides. when you quit, your nerves are raw, negative emotions and stress become nearly overwhelming, many who try to quit experience panic attacks and depression. you need support and tools to deal with the spiritual and emotional crap thats going to hit you. NA (narcotics anonymous) is a good place to seek support. everybody there has been in the place you are in. got to
na.org to find a meetings link.

Hi there. I think we need to start with addressing the issue lingering in your mind of whether or not you CAN quit.

Reassure yourself with the truth that many people have quit smoking marijuana and other drugs and have never looked back. Others have gone back and forth, yet eventually quit for good. If you WANT to quit, that is a start, but you must push yourself to stay in the right direction, regardless of any slip-ups.

You may want to check out the testimonials at the upcoming blog:
http://efyt.com/quit_marijuana

Drug use is not a physical addiction. The body-s innate intelligence will not allow itself to become addicted to toxic substances. The addiction is the craving for reproducing the original shift in perception that the first experiences of drug use seemd to produce. This craving can never be satisfied, but knowing that the addiction is not physical and desiring the best for yourself can help you conquer the bad habits.

You should greatly increase the amount of fresh fruits and vegetables you eat.

Try having a meal of bananas and celery, or oranges and lettuce. You can even blend these foods and drink the smoothie in order to kickstart your improved lifestyle. And remember, eating MORE fruits and vegetables means we obviously are eating LESS of the bad things, as there is only so much we can eat in a day. More good food, less bad junk.

Correct eating will help your body become more alkaline and thus will no longer feel the cravings for mind altering substances. You will have a natural high which can not be improved upon by allowing foreign substances into the body.

I read an account of one lady who had smoked pot for years, and after she quit, she was amazed at how much more vibrant and energetic life was for her.

She even commented how much more she enjoyed listening to music, which surprised her, as she thought she needed pot to feel even close to that enjoyment before.

So do yourself a favor and get healthy, which includes no drugs. Sunlight, fresh air, clean water, raw plant foods : these are ingredients to healthy living which provides the vibrance we all want.

When you have been away from the drug for awhile, you will want to make it easy on yourself by avoiding temptation to start back up again. This includes not hanging around friends who smoke marijuana while they indulge in it.

You will want to avoid these situations while you get your life back on track, and to tell you the truth, even when you feel you have a strong resolve against smoking, you will need to avoid being around smokers throughout your life, as you probably have a weakness towards this particular habit from your past use. It-s best to forget that it-s even available once you are over the hump.

Now go forth, employ this advice EACH day, and watch yourself transform like you haven-t even imagined!
That depends on you. If you-re not addicted, it-s fairly easy -- just throw everything away and stop, don-t hang out with pothead friends. Despite what some others are saying, it is addictive for 15% of the population, and unlike tobacco, there are no magic drugs. Those who are addicted can have a terrible time and I don-t know any magic cure save switching to cigarettes, which is just shifting to a new if lesser problem. Joining a support group may help.

I wish some of the kids who say -I-m going to try pot next Tuesday, are there any downsides?- could read this post, and others like it.
Well you need to start choosing who and at what times you are hanging out with people if they are smoking weed you need to avoid the times that they want to smoke . . . . And if its just you maybe you should think about getting help? Or you could take up a new hobby join a martial arts class or a gym or something along those lines . . . But yeah if its your friends maybe you should think of taking a break from bad influences for a little while
Therapy and looking for medical help is bullshit. You don-t need rehab - were not talking about meth here folks.
When i wanted to stop smoking pot, i did it in this order:
Talk to your friends (all of them, including ones you smoke pot with) and ask that they dont try and pressure you into doing it, or around you, or talk about it. Your peers have the biggest effect on smoking weed.
I got rid of all my weed, pipe, bong, papers, etc. Anything to do with smoking weed.
I did stuff that kept my mind off of weed - like video games, sober friends, tv, movies, etc.
It isn-t that hard to quit. being physically addictive is rare - it is more mentally.
Keep your mind off it.
Unfortunately there are those that want to say -just quit-. Or -move away-. Or my favorite is that it is not a REAL addiction. And I am sure they will give me thumbs down. But addiction is addiction. And it really doesn-t matter what the scientific theory behind it is. For me, I looked forever for a theory to explain my addiction to pot. And every time I found something, I tried to use it as a loophole to do it again. Addicts are usually smart stubborn people who think they know or can learn about everything. They try to avoid and outsmart the disease. They don-t want to listen to what they really have to do, because what really needs to be done is to go deep into your closet of resentment, anger and trust issues. To find out why you don-t feel good enough. This is a process. But the alternative can be fatal. My addiction drove me to meetings, but I only wanted to do what I wanted in the meetings, so I soon found myself doing it again, and again, and again. I lost my wife and my family. I have seen others loose everything, yes including their lives. Try and tell them that this is not a real addiction. It is an epidemic. Addiction strikes some of us and I was always upset that I couldn-t be like my other friends and just enjoy it. I tried to curb it. Do it only on weekends. Only when I was around those people. But in those dark lonley times I found myself hiding it. Continuing to use. It got worse and worse. My advice is to find a meeting. Either MA or another 12 step group that you can find a fellowship of others going through the same thing. This is difficult because none of us want to admit we are powerless over anything. But I have seen such wonderful things come into my life as a result of this type of fellowship and I find myself truly blessed that I have the opportunity to continue to help others. To be a listening ear and to truly find that one of my callings in life is to help others with this disease. If you are questioning weather you are an addict or not then you may have already answered the question. I questioned for a long, long time. I don-t anymore. Although my friends seem to be able to do it an have fun, I can-t. I can not do what others do. I am an addict. I have to ask God each and everyday for the strength to get through. But the funny thing is that as soon as I started to apply myself to the program. As soon as I gave up the control issues, and started to help others, that obsession slowly disapeared and was replaced by a wonderful thankful feeling.

God Bless
just stop. It-s not that hard really unless your weed was laced with crack cocaine or something it shouldn-t be that hard.

Be strong, it-s in your mind there is only very minor physical addiction, the only way to get addicted is if your weak. You have to change your outlook at it. Just remember you don-t need/like it anymore.
Jasper, Smoking addiction can harm your health. Many people have lost jobs, family, and loved ones simply because they could not tame thier smoking habit. I suggest you seek some help. I found a site that has addiction information and a list of addiction treatment centers so you can help.

Live strong
move away from ur dealers, i know ppl say you can get on anywhere, but moving away seriously helps. if this isn-t possible then cut out all the people around you who smoke and dont contact your dealers at all. tell them you want to be cut off, ( seriously, it works) find some new friends and find something to occupy your time, running really works when your pissed off and hanging out. try talking to someone about it you feel comfortable around, and take it one day a a time. good luck
quitting is easy since there are no physical withdraws. The easiest and best way to do it is to smoke or sell the last of what you have and don-t buy any more. Also, it helps if you don-t hang around people that smoke because that may make you want to take a hit.

Don-t waste your money on rehab (which is very expensive)... this is absolutely 100% possible on your own. All it takes is a little will power.
Quit hanging out with pot heads!
Pot is not addictive, I have smoked on and off for more than thirty years, I have had to stop at various times for jobs(drug tests) or for a girlfriend.
But I would not have stopped if I hung out with people who were smoking it. Pot rules!
I move out to a small town in indiana from florida and i can,t find any drugs here in this town ? it,s been 3 years now i,m clean as a whistle, thank god ! it works for me ? now i,m happy that i move out of florida ?
Just tell yourself that if you want to be dead early, keep doing it, and if you want to live long, with a healthy life style then you should quit.
wtf u must have weak will power cuz my friend who had been smoking for 20 years quit just like that cuz he having a kid plus his wife said so lol
First off you might want to go to therapy or a twelve step program. Try exercising and eating healthy foods. Good luck and I hope you achieve your goals.

Try chewing sunflower seeds or beef jerky, that helps.
Replace it with something else. Drink some tea and go exercise.
Get away from it all. Try to not think of it. Make up another habit of yours that doesnt cause some health problems.

How do I quit smoking weed? -

1st marijuana is both physically and mentally addictive. So quiting may not be that simple for you. (Though the physical addiction rate is about 4%, so the odds are in your favor). Get help from a substance abuse counselor or go to NA and get a sponsor. You have to change lifestyles from a using to a non-using. Keep busy and good luck.
JUST STOP!
just stop. Its not like its crack
Start snorting coke and drinking more.
Don;t go into the garden....just don-t its that simple!
Starting using cigerrete withouht lighting it, just do the smoking action with a cigerret whenever u feel to smoke
Marijuana is not a physically addictive substance (though it seems like it), the only way to stop is to do just that. Stop!

as of right now Im on a limited budget Quitting will help out there. any tips will be appreciated
CHEW! Chew on straws, gum, Popsicle sticks, etc. Take a pen cap with a small opening a inhale through the little hole like a cigarette. If you do this for 5 minutes you-ll kind of get that calmed oxygen deprived feeling like smoking. Nicotine gum can help, but isn-t a great alternative. If you-re super desperate dipping tobacco can help; it-ll save your lungs, but it-s also really bad for you.

Other than that, discipline and determination are the only thing that will guarantee success GOOD LUCK
I chain smoked for many, many years, quit cold turkey and never relapsed. All the hype about uncontrollable cravings is bull. Just show a little backbone, throw the *-^%$ things away and never look for whiny excuses to start smoking again. If I had known how easy it was, I would have quit years earlier.
Try chewing gum or get a cheap bag of candy and eat one every time you want to smoke it will curve your oral fixation. I-ve also heard of ppl going to a hypnotist.
I used and know of many others that have used this Christian 12 Step Program. It works!

How hard is it to quit smoking? -

I have tried several times and each time go a little longer than the previous, but I don-t want to mess around for a couple of days, or a week. I want to be done with it.

PLEASE! I will entertain any and all tips and tricks from anyone who has fought this monkey and gotten rid of the habit.
hey man there aint no easy way. i smoked for ten years and am quit for a year now. first you have to do it cold turky. no cutting down patch gum or anything. do it only when ur the most motivated and determined. then use all the will power that you have to not take even a hit off another cig, when cravings start chew gum, and work out. If you run it out that works vary well also, just keep yourself busy and you will notice in a few weeks the cravings will start to go away. just remember the key is cold turky if you put nicoteen in your body in any way you will fail its inevitable. remember dieng of lung cancer will suck, good luck. -clokey
Darned if I know. Been trying for a long time with no results even though I now have COPD. Strange though I don-t like the smell of smoke in the house or in the car. I do find that I don-t like the taste of cigarette after eating mint candy so I may try that out as a deterrent. As far as people saying JUST DON-T START....Well.....that-s kind of like closing the barn door after the horse got out.It-s a downright hard addiction. Good luck.:)
I have tried several times too and failed,it just boils down to wilpower in the end,I am thinking of giving it another go myself,so good luck to you and let me know if you finally kick it
I-m STILL trying- after 6 months! If you find the magical answer, let me in! I-ve also tried (and failed) at many, many different ways to quit. The hardest part isn-t the nicotine- it-s the habit- it-s the fact that smoking has permeated every area of your life and if you stop, what do you have to fill that void?
I know I probably haven-t been the most helpful, but I wanted you to know you aren-t alone in your efforts! Good luck to you!
I have smoked for .. ever. Just heard on the radio of a new procedure - throat laser treatment, to quit smoking. Said it works after one treatment. I know nothing more about this, and I am in the Metro Detroit, Michigan Area.

Smoking is more habit forming than heroine, and harder to shake.

From one addict to another, I feel your misery man. I vowed to quite when I am 40.
I smoked for 7 years and quit cold turkey 3 years ago. The easiest way to quit for me was to stop smoking when I was sick. I think I had a flu and an upper respitory infection, so I wasn-t exactly in the mood to light up. Once I got better, I allowed myself to carry a pack of cigarettes at all times as a safety net, but I never ended up smoking them. Also, find alternatives for your smoking -triggers-. My triggers were driving, needing to smoke after meals, and drinking. I found things to do instead of smoke when I encountered instances when I would usually light up. Instead of smoking after a meal, I-d brush my teeth. Instead of lighting up when I had a drink, I-d drink slower.
I did it cold turkey, lasted 2 years then started again. Tried again with welbutrin, it worked really good, then i broke out in hives. So as you can see I am still trying. good luck, be strong.
One thing I have seen that works is Candy. Get a Big bag of Sugarless Peppermints or Butterscotch, any thing you like, but, a Hard candy best as it will last awhile if you not Crunch it. Try to stay away from constant smokers as it makes you want when you smell the smoke. Brush your teeth regular through the day, a fresh mouth makes you want a smoke less too, I hope. Maybe try it and see, I have seen it work for others.
you just have to find the best way for you. i-ve been told that cold turkey is the best, (try chewing gum) but also remember, it-s an addiction. wish you luck!!
depends on the person- you just have to be done with it- throw it all out and just don-t buy any more- you need will power.
easiest if you never start. I have never had an issue with it.
i have stopped twice and it was retty easy for me. I just didn-t smoke and tried not to be anywhere where someone owuld be smoking. right now I have stopped (because i h vae a flue or some other), also -cold turkey-, no difficulties but I am planning to start again when i feel better.
Very easy just don-t start, it-s a stupid and expensive habit anyways, you are paying to kill yourself, you are a dumbass.
I quit when I got teeth pulled out. After the first 3 days, don-t pick up a cig in the morning. That morning cig will start you right back up again. I would say that just don-t pick them up in the morning and make yourself busy for about 3 days where you don-t have time to smoke. When you get the craving pop a piece of gum in your mouth and start on another project. Just think your house will be cleaner and good luck on the quiting. The body only craves it for 3 days and then its just your brain that wants it. I would say take a lot of showers so that the nicotine that comes through your pores will be removed from your skin, and brush your teeth a lot because then you don-t have the taste or smell to drive you crazy. It-s helped me.
Cigarettes are as addictive as Heroin, so you would need to go about quiting as you would any drug. Find a good support system and be ready to have a rough time, but you can do it if you really want to, you just have to want it bad enough. Quit cold turkey is the best method, just like quiting any other drug. Just say NO!

Whats the best method to quit smoking? -

ok heather i have had to do this, keep something in your mouth like a peice of gum or hard candy and dont buy the cigarretts no matter what, have a friend help you by giving you an assentive for following through with it, like they will take you out to your fav. resturant or to a movie things like that, also in the end you will realize that you will save TONS of money along the way to buy awsome purses or jewlery for yourself. Trust me it is worth it. GOOD LUCK and god bless
You have to really want to and have lots of support from people around you. So if you fall they-ll pick you back up.
cold turkey.

however, cigarette addiction is partially mental, partially physical. if you are not mentally prepared and ready to quit, you will not quit.

you have to WANT to quit more than you want to smoke.

i smoked a pack a day for years, then quit cold turkey over a year ago. it was easy, because i WANTED to quit.
If you truly want to quit, then you just quit. You make a choice to not buy cigarettes again. Remove all lighters and ashtrays from your house. Hard candy or jawbreakers can help too. This is what I did two years ago and haven-t smoked since.
1.- Never start
2.- Hypnotization
3.- Get pregnant
4.- Have a friend that cares for you and is a doctor examine you and make uo that if you dont quit now youll die in 10 months.
5.- when you feel like smoking substitue it with something better, (candy, excercise, or couples excercise ;))
I used to smoke almost 2 packs a day and tried everything. I found doing it cold turkey was the best for me. It was hard but worked.
The best method is to get a spine and just quit.
The next best method if you won-t sack up is to work with your primary care physician.
First off, you have to WANT to and then I would consider Nicorette Gum. I bought for my husband on eBay as the prices were consderably cheaper than retail and he loves it! He still smokes a few here and there at night time but during the day, in the field at work, he doesn-t smoke at all.
Heather - this depends on the person.

23 years ago, I just got darn tired of spending money for the rising costs of cigs, plus I was weary of losing my breath after climbing a flight of stairs and having ash burns on my shirts.
So, I just quit.
I suppose my brain chemistry didn-t have as many addictive receptors as some people.
And I believe that is key to quitting - what a persons addictive level determines their quitting ability.

You are going to have to find out for yourself what you have the strength to do alone or with support from the patch or other methods.

Good luck!
If you make it, think of the money you-ll save...let alone the health insurance!
try reducing how much u smoke in a day or just cold turkey completely stop, that-s how i did it, goodluck.
stop hanging around wit peeps who smoke, get a new hobbie uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh It makes people stink!!!
used Zypan a prescription drug, haven-t smoked in 15 years
good luck
80% of the people that quit, do it with grit. I did it that way after smoking for 10 years. Here-s how I ATTAINED and KEPT that grit to DO it...

If you remember seeing,-Indiana Jones- there was a scene where he is running from a bolder. The harder he ran the further away the bolder got from him. The harder he ran, the SMALLER it got TO him.

Every day you say no, you get further and further from that temptation. It-s always going to CHASE you, because that-s the way the makers MAKE cigarettes, but as the temptation gets smaller, with every day you say no, you can literally take a non-lit cigarette butt and -put the temptation in it,- step on the butt, and the temptation goes out.
balls

just to WANT to stop.
I-ve heared the best way is cold turkey. They say it-s hard in the first week but then you-re less likely to start back up.

I also know someone who had success with the patch.
Good luck!
Congrats to me, I made 2 years yesterday after 40 years of smoking. I did it cold turkey. Just put it in my mind that I needed to quit when I had a hard time pushing 140 pounds on wheels 50 feet. Now I feel better.
Here-s two VERY helpful suggestions: #1-Tell everyone you know that your quiting on whatever date. That way you will not want to look like a *%!^+#! to your friends by starting up again. #2-This one WILL help you SO much: the craving for a smoke only lasts a couple minutes. Your tough-enough to ride that out! The cravings eventually (quicker than you think) get further apart and then you-ve got it beat! Just REMEMBER the cravings do go away quick! (maybe chew-gum then if you have to)
Cold turkey that way you are not tempted to start agian. And when doing this for about a monthh try to stay away from others who smoke or ask them not to smoke around you. Oh and be sure to keep a lot of gum Good luck and you can do this.
I smoked for 13 years, tried cold turkey and patch, I ended up doing to a Duke University smoking cessation study, and for some reason, that did the trick, what it was;
i had to keep a diary of what i smoked, when and why, I wore a patch that they provided and smoked the cigarettes (my brand) that they provided. No one knew whether the patch or the cigarettes were altered, but it worked, and it worked well, I haven-t smoked in a year. I would call your local Universities and see if they have any similar to that, personally, I think it was having to answer to someone about my behavior, not wanting to disappoint my lab tech, and having to think about what I was doing that helped me.
by not letting cig in your mouth

I don-t care to hear form non-smokers/X-smokers please. I know everyone knows everything, but I need someone who has been through this problem to help me. Thanks a bunch.
You:

If you only smoke when your not busy or you smoke when you-re bored: try a quit smoking hot-line; nicotine gum; or quitting cold turkey.

Your Method:

Usually, people who smoke when they-re bored have restless lives or restless energy. A hot-line will give you something to do, going cold turkey will make you even more restless and you find yourself doing something that seems to make you forget you haven-t smoked. The nicotine gum is touch and go because restless people tend to have addictive personalities and could probably get addicted to the gum itself (but not necessarily).

How I Know:

I became addicted to the gum and then ended up quitting smoking and the gum cold turkey.
Honestly i had to really think hard about why i wanted to, and once i found out that reason, i just quit, and went cold turkey and havent smoked since. The reason...i stayed at a veterans hospital for a few months cause i have ptsd and was getting treatment, well i was sitting down getting a smoke and a vietnam vet with a large oxygen tank, tapped me on the shoulder, pointed at the tank and then his nostrils where the oxygen was connected to and he said. -Its not worth it-
I quit cold turkey. That was 6 years ago and I still get cravings. I had the additional motivation of getting a severe lung complication ( sarcoidosis - a growth that invades organs, and leaves calcified deposits ) and having two doctors telling me that if I wanted to live to be old, quit smoking now.

On two occasions I have relapsed and purchased a pack of cigarettes. I did not smoke a whole pack either time, in fact I was suprised how yucky tasting they were. I knew that I was possibly tempting fate and threw them away unfinished each time.

It is not easy. If I am stressed I get cravings, and if I am working on something maintenance wise I get a craving because I used to smoke whenever fixing something around the house or car.

You don-t just turn it off. I assume I will always be fighting the cravings. I am just trying to make it as long of a fight as possible ( meaning, I live as long as possible ).

GOOD LUCK in your struggle, you are not alone.

Peace and good health.
I was fortunate enough to sign up with a research group at SFSU. Not only did I get paid to quit but the program that they used to help me quit was successful. I smoked for 22 years straight and had never even attempted to quit before. The program had us on the patch ( from strongest to lightest), had us come in to group about 1x a month and had us take Wellbutrin to take the edge off. Those thing plus a few other important exercises and tips worked for me and my boyfriend like a charm. It-s wonderful that you want to quit, you can do it!
My dad quit smoking after 40 years of smoking habit with 1-2 packs a day at least. It is about why you want to quit?
Exercising will help, cut your stick day by day, chew some gum when you feel like smoking or you can consult doctor. It is common to consult doctor nowadays.
i had a child that i drove to school in school bus tell me that smoking would kill me, and they wanted me around for awhile. i threw the rest of the pack in the trash, and never have smoked since.

a friend of mine quit by chewing on toothpicks. he still chews toothpicks, but hasn-t lit up in 10 years.

i know how hard it is to quit, but if ya really truly want to quit, you can accomplish your goal. good luck JD
I quit about a month ago. I took steps to completely stop. At first I took my cigs everywhere with me school ,work, everywhere. I stoped doing that and left them at home so I could only smoke at home. Then I started to monitor my count. I limited myself to 10, then 6 then 3 then I quit. Took over a year to finally stoped but I never think about smoking anymore.
I cut off all of my -fun money- funds. I smoked 2 packs a week, so instead I put that $10 in a jar and that jar, once it had enough in it, could be spent on anything I wanted.

Basically I-m really money oriented and that-s why it worked for me. I-ve been clean for over a year and I still stick the $10 in the jar as a continuing reward system.
Today is my 6th day without a ciggarette. Everytime I wanna smoke I have 1-2 glasses of water because I am really scared of the weight gain. I havent seen any of my friends that smoke this week because I am avoiding temptation. I unfortunatly dont have any suggestions for the moods as i am struggling with this as well.
You-ll need to get your mind off the cigarettes. Depends on how much you smoked, a pack a day is going to be hard to break, but 2 packs is insanity. Try smoking less at first, and work your way down. Patches and gum might work, but they only feed to the addiction, so ultimately, it-s going to suck.
-quitting is easy, i have done it loads of times-

i did it with the aid of patches. the gum is disgusting. also the inhaler is good as you hold it like you would a smoke.
as best said from my friends and myself, you need motivation and you need distractions. i had a major soda addiction where i would drink 12 cans a day, so i cut it to 3 per day, then none. good luck....
I just quit cold turkey. Did that twice in the same manner. Last time bacause we got pregnant, maybe that′s an option :)). jokes aside, good luck.
If you want to quit smoking visit http://www.stopsmoking4good.org or e-mail me at StopSmoking4Good@yahoo.com
Tried all the methods - gum, patch, hypnosis. Nothing worked, so now I just enjoy it.
i just stopped

no more smoking cigarettes and weed for me

JUST STOP !

Do the patches work to quit smoking? -

Do the patches work to quit smoking? -

Yes they do, but you have to want to quit as well.

I used them to quit smoking about 5 years ago or so.
They help, but just stopping works better.
sorry sweetie never try it.

but they said, anything comes in two,

u got to quit smoking, but u get nightmare if u wear those patches to bed, dunno..

but what the heck, just give it a try, enlighten me if it works.

u go girl!
They work only if you make them work, you have to really want to quit. If you do want to and are strong enough to forego the urge of sticking a cigarette in your mouth they do work. IF not don-t waste your money until you are really ready to give it up.
they will sort of help with the withdrawal and the times when you are weakest, like after a meal, or waking up in the morning. But they also might keep you up at night and make your sleep filled with weird dreams if you don-t take it off a little bit before bedtime.
After you smoke for a long time. (years) it is a way of life for a person. You have to get a new way of living your life after years of a habitual way of living. your brain does not adjust well to change of any kind and throws a fit as well as wanting its shot of pep me up nicotine.
I have smoked for almost 25 years now and have tried numerous times to quit ; I have used most of the withdrawal symptom aids out there and always went back to the blasted things when things go stressful. Good luck with your trying!
It didn-t help my love. :[
Patches are only an aid, not a cure. Quiting has a lot to do with how bad you want to quit. At best it-s not easy for most, due in part to the many addictive substances that are added by the tobacco companies.
i use patches but not for quitting, i use them when i have to be somewhere where I cant smoke for awhile
they worked for me a while then I began to smoke again.
Do the patches work to quit smoking? -

Is it really true that your metabolism changes so much when you quit smoking that you gain weight even if you aren-t eating any more than you were before and nothing else in your lifestyle has changed except that you no longer smoke?
Yes it is definitely true. When you were smoking your heart rate increased therefore pumping oxygen at a faster rate. This also affected your metabolism in the fact that your metabolic rate was increased each time you smoked a cigarette. Plus, strenuous activities caused you to breath heavier also increasing the rate. No matter what you do - don-t start smoking again. Just watch what you eat and exercise. That is the only way to lose that quit smoking weight gain. Good Luck!
No. Nicotine is an appetite suppressant, you-ll eat more and not even know it because you-ll feel hungrier now.
I believe it is more of a craving thing most people eat more when they quit smoking
I was told that smoking interferes with your body-s ability to absorb nutrition and vitamins. When you stop, if that process reverts to normal (ie, it wasn-t permanently damaged), you might gain some more weight even if your calory intake is still the same.

I would bet, however, that the major reason for weight gain is that people are eating more. They still want something to do with their hands, and eating is a ready substitute.
Don-t know if that is true. Do know that when I quit I gained weight. I think it was because the food taste better and I ate more to fill in for the smoking after I quit. I have lost weight since then. Went up to 213 # down to 187# now.
Well first of all congrats!! Smoking kills your appetite.. Now since u have quit smoking it has improved your appetite due to which you may put on weight. But it is still much better than smoking. You can always get back to shape with regular exercise. all the best. I-m sure you will overcome that as well..
Your metabolism dramatically changes. Cigerettes and nicotine act as a appetite suppresent. you will naturally get an increased appetite, but you can modify it by eating smart. Also drink alot of water to flush out your system. Other changes include improved circulation, better breathing, shinier hair and beautiful complexion. Go for it and stay strong.
You gain weight because you eat more, but, there is a new drug on the market called -Chantix- it helps you quit smoking my blocking the receptors in your brain that nicotine stimulates therefor there are no cravings and replacing food for smoking. I-ll email you if you want and let you know how it works. You need a prescription for it and it costs about $120.00 for the starters pack and a months supply. If it works it-s well worth it.
yes, but if you work it there shold be no problem and working out helps the metabolism, trust me i know i quit smoking and i gained a little bit of wieght but i have lost it and kept it off just dont binge when you want a smoke
