Why is it recommended to drink lots of water when you quit smoking? -

Drink lots of water. This flushes the nicotine and other chemicals out of your system faster. It can help to keep your mouth busy.
I have to agree in part with Patti. Part of it is the Psychological effect that you are trying to eliminate. Your trying to get your brain away from the stimulus of bringing your hand to your mouth for that smoke. Thats what the intent of the patch is really about. By keeping you satisfied your mind sees that it doesn-t need to do that physical movement.

Plus water is good for you and helps take your mind off of smoking.
It helps rid the body of all the nicotine (- other impurities) which as you know, is a drug! Once the nicotine leaves your body, your skin, nails, - hair will be so much healthier, not to mention your lungs!!!
Water is always, always good for you. It flushes out your system and since, when you quit smoking you are releasing a lot of toxins and your body is ridding itself of alot of stuff, drinking water helps this process.

Drink as much water as possible. You should be drinking at least three large bottles of water a day.
Many toxins are eliminated through the urinary system, and it gives smokers another way to occupy their mouth and hands if they always have something to sip on.
Part of it is so you have something new to do with your mouth and hands.

Apart from eating. This can be a real reason that people gain weight when they quit smoking.
