What is the best way to quit smoking? -

simply you have to throw everything away in the toilet.
not so simple, cold turkey is hard and you probably should use something like a nicotin patch, though it is true that if you have cigarretes around the house it-s just another temptation to smoke. If you have the need to put something to your mouth - eat pretzels :D

Prayer and belief in Higher Powers (God or whatever you want to call Him / Her / It). Pray for deliverance from the addiction.
try the patches....or my aunt chewed on ice everytime she needed a cig....and now she quit smoking. GOOD LUCK!
I used the prescription drug called ZYBAN - and my partner and I went to conselling for about 6 weeks - we gave up over 5 years ago.
You have to want to give up - it wasn-t easy we were both very heavy smokers - but it was worth it in the long run.
Good luck to you
everyone i know says the patch works best, the patch and working out
The first step is to make sure a person really wants to quit smoking. It is hard to quit something you like and is even harder if that something you like is an addictive substance. Anyways, the person in question must really want to quit or it won-t happen.

The next step is to get educated as to what is available. There are organizations that can help you with this. Get as much info as you can. There is no knowledge that isn-t power. Things to consider is success rate, availability of product, price and side effects if any.

third step is to come up with a battle plan that fit your needs. Some people can do it cold turkey. Most can-t. You may choose to a combination of methods. The idea is to do what you think will work for you. You know yourself better than anybody else. Be realistic.

4th is to understand you triggers and avoid them. If you know you smoke when you see your friends smoke then maybe you should hang out less with those friends or avoid that situation. Another trigger can be routines, or after watching a certain t.v. show. FInd what your triggers are and see how you can change them or at least learn to recognise it.

5th finally understand that you will fail many times. Is ok, you are human. JUst keep at it and over time you will succeed.
try jogging it worked for me or try chewing gum
Throw out all you cigarettes. Best is to flush them down a toilet. Then of course, give your lighter and all your money to your wife/husband and let him/her keep it, and remind him/her that you-re trying to quit smoking so she won-t give you any until you quit.
You have to want to quit and know that it will be the hardest thing you will ever do. join a support group and remind yourself everyday why you want to quit. Educate yourself on the damage of cigarettes and remember that each day that you don-t smoke you are healing and become more healthy. Plus it is great to regain your smell and not have your clothes and hair smell like an ashtray. Good Luck. Exercise is also very helpful.
cold turkey is the only way to quit for good. weining yourself with medication or patches only makes the withdrawal symptoms last longer. those who have quit successfully with the patch end up still addicted to nicotine and often chew nicotine gum, continue using the patch, or substitute with another tobacco product.

cold turkey is the most traumatic to your lifestyle, but your body is clear of nicotine in 3-5 days. thats how i did it, and i am 4 years without nicotine, and have absolutely no desire for anything similar anymore.

i-ve been smoking for only a year
Antonaki, this is hard...It is an addiction..Just you you have to decide it, and throw away everything reminds you smoking...ashtrays,cigarettes...(I always say it...but...lets see if i do it)
I spoke with my doctor at a checkup. She put me on Wellbutrin XL. (It is available in a generic.) I took a pill a day for a week and then was told to attempt the first smoke-free day on day 8. Wow!!! By day six the cigarettes even tasted bad. Really bad. And the nicotine effect was just not there. It was pretty much over after that. I have cheated twice (normally happens so don-t sweat it), but have not been able to smoke more than 3 puffs before getting disgusted and putting it out in both cases. I have been smoke-free for a year. No cheating.

Of course, drink lots of water and try a gentle walk around the block everyday or some form of exercise. The first few weeks you may cough and have stuffy sinuses, but your body is just undoing the damage you have done from smoking. Avoid people who smoke or tell smoking friends to deny you cigs. Go to non-smoking restaurants for drinks, etc. You can really control a lot by controlling your environment.

You can do cold turkey as well. A good site is WhyQuit.com for cold turkey support. I tried this and had some success reducing the cigs, but I needed the help of a doctor to really kick it. This is just what worked for me. You may be different! :-)

Be gentle with yourself and stick with it. You may slip a few days, but just tell yourself that you are now a non-smoker and keep plugging away. You can do this! Best wishes.
Cold turkey is hard but best. There are many options now, lozenges, gums, and patches. When I quit I used the patches at first. I chewed lots of sugar free gum (like Orbit) and the stronger the flavor the better. Suckers also helped me with the hand-to-mouth motions. Drink plenty of water to flush out the nicotine. Exercise to keep your mind off of it. The first month is tough, but since you have only been smoking a year, it may not be that bad.
There are many methods:
nicotene gum, cold turkey, hypnosis, nicotene patches, there are new types of medicine......................

Just pray to God daily and he will help you.
first of all ,in order to stop smoking,,u need to determine and agree its bad for your health.,.,.second is gradual withdraw,,,of addiction,,,by smoking a cigarrette less daily for a week,,then u go inot the cleaning zone,,,get rid of all cigareete related stuff ,lighters,ashtrays...and avoid smokers,,and stop smoking,,u will face headaches .,and cravings u over come them by moving around more,,,and taking analgesic s,,best is 2-3 tablets of paracetamol - caffeine(panadol extra)..over next 4-5 days u will get edgy ,,and try to not socialize or go near places with smokers,,,then bang its over...just u need maybe 1-3 months your respiratort cells will change and u get rid of the tar and chemicals plugging the lungs ,best of luck(ITS BETTER THAN GOING WITH GUMS AND PATCHES THIS METHOD)
Go to your docter.

Trying to quit smoking, i am such a weak ****r!!!!!? -

anyone else quit?
what techneiques did you use?
im desporate to quit but i keep failing and i am so mad at myself!
HELP anyone!
In the Search for questions slot type in -quit smoking- and you will get at least 7,100 results.
hey, dont get mad at yourself. its natural to fail a lot before you succeed. at least you-ve found a number of ways not do in quitting smoking. anyway, change your habits and try to do some exercise.
I FINALLY quit smoking! I started smoking in 8th grade and I kept on till just recently and I-m now 24yrs old. What helped me was smoking really, really gross cheap smokes! Get the ones that look like little cigars and smoke those, they will make you quit fast I promise, that is why I quit! Good luck!
I tried quitting for 25 yrs before I finally did. The reason I quit was because I had chronic bronchitis which had stopped responding to medication. One day I decided I wanted to be healthy (I was pretty sick) more than I wanted to smoke. I quit cold turkey in 1989 - haven-t had a cigarette since.
keep trying it is very hard you will fail a few times but you will eventually succeed if you can make it a week or two without smoking you have it licked but you will still get the urge to smoke for quite a while actually I still get them and I havent smoked in 2 years I am pretty sure it-s like alcoholism once addicted always addicted but that doesn-t mean you can-t quit it just takes persistance and will power
The time that I quit for 4 yrs (yes, I-ve started again since like a dumba**), I chewed gum, and it helped tremendously. Just any kind of gum, it will help keep your mind off it, and keep your mouth busy, and fresh. That-s what helped me the most. Also, take deep breaths, and just notice how good it feels to actually breathe fresh air. Yoga might also help.
Hi,

If you realy wants to quit smoking then you should know some facts.

This is for your information pl. that Cigarette smoking kills nearly about 420,000 people a year, making it more lethal than AIDS, accidents, homicides, suicides, drug overdoses, and fire.

The main risks of smoking are

1. Heart disease
2. Cancer
3. Dementia and neurologic diseases
4. Lung disease
5. Female infertility and pregnancy
6. Male sexuality and reproduction
7. Behavioural and Social Problems
8. Effects on bones and joints

The methods to quit smoking are

At this time the most effective methods for quitting is a combination of nicotine replacement products and the antidepressant drug bupropion bolstered by counselling.

1. Nicotine replacement

Nicotine replacement products provide low doses of nicotine that do not contain the contaminants found in smoke. They are proving to be twice as helpful as other standard quitting methods. Replacement products include nicotine patches, gums, nasal sprays, and inhalers. Side effects of any nicotine replacement product may include headaches, nausea, and other gastrointestinal problems. People often experience sleeplessness in the first few days, particularly with the patch, but the insomnia usually passes. Patients using very high doses are more likely to experience symptoms, and reducing the dose can prevent them. Certain individuals like people with heart disease, pregnant women, small children may need to avoid nicotine replacement products.

Nicotine patches: Nicotine patches, or transdermal nicotine, can be an effective way to quit smoking. The quit rate for patch users is around 20% after six months. Nicotine patches are available over the counter, but it is best to consult a doctor before using them, particularly people with any medical problems.

Nicotine gum: Nicotine gum (Nicorette), available over the counter, has also been effective for a number of people. Some prefer it to the patch because they can control the nicotine dosage and chewing satisfies the oral urge. Long-term dependence may be a problem with this method.

Nicotine inhaler: The nicotine inhaler resembles a plastic cigarette holder. It comes with a number of nicotine cartridges which are inserted into the inhaler. It has some specific advantages over other slower nicotine replacement products:

Nicotine nasal spray: The nasal spray satisfies immediate cravings by providing doses of nicotine rapidly, and thus may play a useful role in conjunction with slower acting nicotine replacement therapies.

Nicotine tablet: A nicotine tablet that is held under the tongue is also very useful.

2. Alternative and ther Methods for Quitting

Scheduled reduction: One study showed that people who used a systematic withdrawal schedule were twice as likely to quit as those who went cold turkey. The procedure involves the following steps:

Divide the number of minutes per day awake by the number of daily cigarettes; the result is the minute-long wait between smokes.

Set up a schedule with time intervals based on this result and using a timer, smoke only at those intervals; if the -cigarette appointment- is missed by more than five minutes, the smoker must skip that cigarette.

The following week, one-third fewer cigarettes are used and the smoking time is recalculated based on the lower number.

During the third week the count is again reduced by a third, and the smoker quits in the fourth week.
Change daily habits:

Change the daily schedule as much as possible. Eat at different times or eat many small meals instead of three large ones, sit in a different chair, rearrange the furniture.

Find other ways to close a meal. Play a tape or CD, eat a piece of fruit, get up and make a phone call, or take a walk (a good distraction that burns calories as well).

Substitute oral habits (eat celery, chew sugarless gum, suck on a cinnamon stick.) Go to public places and restaurants where smoking is prohibited or restricted.

Set short-term quitting goals and reward yourself when they are met, or every day put the money normally spent on cigarettes in a jar and buy something pleasurable at the end of a predetermined period of time.

Find activities that focus the hands and mind but are not taxing or fattening: computer games, solitaire, knitting, sewing, whittling, crossword puzzles.

Avoid heavy drinking of alcohol, caffeine, or other stimulants or mood altering substances.

Enjoy Life
i am trying to quit too, it sucks. i like the niccorette fruit chill gum, it helps a lot. my mom tried chantix and it worked great for her, she quit in less than a month after smoking for almost 30 years. i wish you the best of luck and don-t kick yourself for slipping up, it is very hard to quit. just keep with it and you will do it eventually.
First off, you are NOT weak. But if you keep telling yourself that, you-re bound to believe it.
Drink water... even better from a bottle. Your body needs help detoxing, and your mind wants hand to mouth.
Remember that cravings only last 2 minutes tops, and they get easier and less day by day. Breathe through those 2 minutes and you-ve waged war against a difficult battle that you can and will win!
Lastly, I-m going to give you a site that I used every flippin day when I quit. (its free too which is a huge bonus!). Whenever I thought I-d cave to crave, I-d log in to get back to my senses. It gives advice, tips and support... all day and all night. Use it.

http://www.quitnet.com

You can do this.... believe it.
Just see a picture of damage lungs by cigarrette....i-m pretty sure you will quit smoking definitely.
Do it for your health!!! No body gonna take care of you better than yourself.

How do I quit smoking while taking adderall ? -

Ok I lied I don-t smoke but my boyfriend does. I am allergic to cigarette smoke but I don-t want this to be the end of the relationship and he is willing to quit. However he has really bad ADD and must take adderall in order to get things done. He says when he takes the adderall it makes him focus on the craving for a cigarette and he usually has almost a whole pack. When he doesn-t take the adderall he doesn-t feel the need to smoke. Any tips for me to pass on to him?
this is so true. I didn-t take my adder all for a week over a holiday last year. I have been smoke free since. the nicorett gum was on hand when i started the adder all up again, but i didn-t need it. take an adder all break ( you will sleep not smoke) -- true, we are to lazy to smoke with out the adder all.... good-luck..
i know what you are talking about my mother smokes all the time but im not allergic to it like you are wish i was so she would stop but if the medicine makes him crave cigarettes try going to the doctor and ask for another prescription besides adderall or you can just take all your boyfriend-s cigarettes and throw them away or witch might not be true he might just be using the medicine as an excuse and every one has the will power to stop smoking or also u could lock him in a room for a couple of months with out cigarettes and hell lose his addiction but im sure u don-t want to do that and also if he does stop never let him even take a puff of another cigarette or he-ll be hooked again

I quit smoking pot, but now im not so sure it was a good idea...anyone have experience? -

I was a moderate marijuana smoker(about 4-5 days a week). I decided to quit and have now for 3 weeks. I am noticing that life is more real, colors are brighter, easier to pay attention etc...But it feels like the real problems that first led me to using this drug are also becoming clearer and stronger. It-s an effect I am not liking. I do go to therapy, and get advice from a professional, but I was wondering if anyone else has delt with this feeling and if they decided to quit or go back to smoking. I am starting to believe that marijuana may actually have some anti depressent attributes in severe cases now. Any advice would help, especially if you-ve delt with it. Thanks.
Stay clean. It`s still in your system. Few more weeks and you`ll be fine. Well done.
first I was enjoying life with pod+alcohol+cigarettes then I decided to quite pod so it was beer+cigarettes then just cigarettes and then just life and its sweet, cause you get control over everything you want!! woman ,drugs, your life ,your goals and the rest

it may not have anti-depressants in it, maybe it-s just the part of weed that made you not care

although, it could be, seeing how that it is also controlled. might be used as st. johns wort. I don-t know, you should look it up
I have experience from watching and listening... hope that counts.

My ex was (probably still is) a chronic smoker, he gave up on the odd occasion and said that when he smoked he just didn-t care as much about things (like the house being spotless, playing with dog, kids etc.). I don-t believe it-s anti-depressant - it-s a depressant because people who are depressed, don-t care (I-ve been depressed).

I would definately recommend going to counselling, my ex never did go and never gave up either...

When I went to counselling for depression they taught me to think differently and deal with the problems that started it.
It sounds more like you smoke more like everyday..but I could be wrong.

If you have stopped smoking and not feeling more energetic, more motivated etc, you might just be suffering from depression as well, so go to the docs and tell them cos they will help, they can prescibe sleeping tablets if you-re not sleeping well (sweats/nightmares/tossing/turning) and refer you to a counsellor or pshycologist.

Let me know what you decide to do, proud of you! It-s a pretty hard thing to do, I-d like to know how you get on.
ok if u feel like u need 2 go back smoking then go back i mean is not a problem... my friends do it and its kinda cool ill do it when i am older...lol
Mental strength. Stick to it. If you are a strong enough person there should be no need for counceling. Ive quit alot worse and including pot on my own. Life isnt easy, noone is completely happy. Mind over matter and youll conquer anything.
well done it-s a good thing you stopped.It-s not easy and it takes a lot of courage.Since you have been able to stay off for some weeks you can do it.A few weeks more and you-ll be fine.Try as much as possible to avoid mixing with people that do it and keep yourself busy.Even if you smoke pot all your life the problems of life will always be there what makes you a real and strong person is your ability to handle these problems without any influence. You have to think of your health and many other things that smoking pot can do to you.Yes it gives you the feeling of an anti depressant but the truth is that it really just makes you high and makes you see everything as a joke.So i advice you remain focused, be strong and I tell you there is nothing you cant do.
Congratulation!!!! for stop smoking these craps. and dude you know what i learn you could Die from the moment you tried it.
so congrats
You were using it like an antidepressant. It takes time to recover, and you need to have things to do, to fill the void left by its absence. Practise one of the relaxation techniques at
http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris
on page 2, daily, and when needed, and read that page. Try stumbleupon.com - coolsiteoftheday.com - secondlife.com - enter free internet games in your search engine, maybe trying pool, poker (NOT for $! SHARKS!!!), or shockwave.com, backgammon, Uchess.com etc.

If I quit smoking when Im 35 will I be ok? -

I-m 25 and I-ve been smoking for 2 years pack per day. The problem is I truely love smoking and being a smoker. If I quit when I-m about 35 will I still be healthy and not get cancer?
If you like smoking, then dont stop. Cigarettes are great, and i like girls that smoke too.
I don-t know if you will be ok or not, it just depends on your health.
I can tell you that at 35 it will be harder to stop.
There is also the premature wrinkles to consider. I wish I had quit when I was younger.
The sooner you quit, the better. There isn-t a magic amount of time that you have before you-re at risk for cancer or other health problems. Smoking has negative short term effects, as well as long term effects. The best thing to do is quit ASAP.

Keep this in mind, too: smoking has been linked to other health problems besides cancer. Breathing difficulties, like CPOD and athsma, heart failure and heart attack, dental problems, and skin problems are all possible side effects of smoking.

The longer you smoke, the harder it-s going to be to quit. There are all sorts of resources out there for you to help you quit. Think of the money you-ll save if you quit. That can be a big motivator for some people.
the damage is probably done already...my guess, but it couldn-t hurt to stop.
Its a lot easier to quit after smoking 2 years, than to quit after 12 years.
If you have been smoking a pack a day I would definitely say you will probably not be okay. People die from second hand smoke so I don-t see how you actually smoking is going to work out in the end. Obviously there is now way to know what will happen to you but the chances of you not only ending up with lung cancer are great but it also increases the risk of you having multiple other health problems.
Any time you quit is always going to be better for you, good luck
When you-re 35, you WILL get the long term effects of smoking

Think of all the little holes you-re making in your liver, and how many years you-re taking off of your life ever pack that you finish

My opinion, think of them like sweets, don-t over do it! Enjoy one after a stressful day, not a whole pack
no
If you quit A.S.A.P you might have a chance. After the age of 25 (more toward late twenties) the body will not repair itself as quickly or even at all. Even if you quit today it would still take about 3 to 5 years for you lung and body to clear the tar and toxins (the body-s ability to do this diminishes with age)
If you have to smoke something, smoke pot. Despite what most media and government info would have us think, independent scientific studies have shown that marijuana has a -anti-cancer- effect due to its anti-inflammatory properties only has very minor health risks (increased risk of chest colds and such) compared to tobacco and even alcohol (both are major carcinogens)
you can still get cancer from passive smoking, so i think there are still risks with smoking for an extra 10 years.
No one can give you that guarantee. Besides cigarettes do more than pose lung cancer problems. When you get to that age, it doesn-t mean anything will change either. I thought the same thing. Now I-m 50 and still puffing away.
peace
omg please stop right now! it stinks, costs, and ruins your body.
Sorry after 12 years pack per day it-s entirely possible there will be long-term effects. There-s a chance you won-t get cancer anyway but it-s quite likely so do you want to take the risk? I-m sorry for being blunt but the sooner you quit the better.

Which quit smoking method is the best? -

I am thinking of quit smoking till the end of 2008 and I would like to ask which method is the most effective. I have been a smoker since 1998 but I think that now i am ready to give up.
The best quit smoking method is the one that works for you. There are many ways to give it up but noone is the best. What might work for one person, may not work for you.

I have tried cold turkey and nicotine replacement therapy but i finally quited smoking with zyban pill.

Have a look at http://www.quitsmokingaid.net/quitsmokingmethods/ and read reviews of the common methods people use to stop smoking.

Hope this helps.
I know Alan Carr (who at one time smoked 100 cigs a day, before he quit) wrote some good books about how to quit smoking.

You can look at when you are most likely to smoke, and then find ways to handle those situations like a non-smoker would. Don-t think of it as -having to give up- your smokes; think of it as losing something unpleasant.

You can use patches or gums to help with the nicotine cravings, but keep in mind the the physical cravings will wear off within just 2 days or so; the psychological cravings need more time to work through. Have some hand candies, chewing gum, or lollipops on hand to help with the need to put *something* in your mouth when you do have a craving,
I personally don-t trust any quit smoking method that deals only with physical nicotine addiction. I tried several times to quit using patches, gums, herbs etc but none of these worked.

Smoking is more of a psychological addiction than a physical one. If you really want to quit you must discover the reasons why you smoke and then eliminate or change these thought processes. As soon as I dealt with my psychological reasons for smoking I quit, first time and more importantly for good.

Once you deal with the psychological side of smoking it makes the quitting process easy, no matter your level of addiction.

Quitting smoking does not require any patches, gums, herbs or anything like that. These methods are expensive, time consuming and simply do not work. All that is required is a bit of motivation, self belief and determination.

Good Luck and Good Quitting

setting a goal is a good start. i tried all sorts of stuff over years (including zyban, which didn-t work), but the following did the trick for me.

-i swore all through my late 20-s that i would quit by the time i was 30. i said it would be my present to myself. the advantage of a goal that is not too close (like the end of the week) is that you give yourself plenty of time to try things, you don-t have to beat yourself up so much when you slip, and when you finally quit, you don-t feel so much that you gave it up before you were ready to.

keep in mind that with each attempt to quit, your likelihood of success increases (shown by studies). so give yourself the time and the freedom to find the way that works for you without being so hard on yourself (-i was going to quit today but i screwed up and smoked one!-). again, a LONG-TERM goal is a great thing.

-i quit drinking. the two go hand-in-hand. i know that if i have a drink, i will have to have a smoke, so i just quit drinking first, and quit smoking several months later. drinking and smoking affect you in a way that neither one does alone, so doing one encourages the other. likewise, quitting both works well. the fact that i don-t want to smoke makes me opt not to take a drink.

-quit smoking in one space at a time. the car used to be my little smoker-s heaven, so i when i stopped that first, stopping completely was less difficult.

-dum dums pops rock! jolly ranchers and gum are nice, but lollipops have the advantage of the whole hand-to-mouth thing that smokers get hooked on.

and finally
-i got really really sick. that-s right, i had allergies and bad flu and kicked that and got pneumonia a month later. i felt so horrifically bad and i couldn-t breath without pain. i didn-t want to smoke, couldn-t smoke, and didn-t like contemplating that this is what my grandmother-s death of lung cancer at 56 might have felt like.

seriously, some time when you are SICK as a dog and know it will last at least a week, take advantage of that. you feel like crap anyway, withdrawal surely won-t make you feel too much worse. get it over with. if you need comfort, go to your smoking place and eat a lollipop.

good luck. stay determined, and you will succeed.
Self hypnosis finally got me to kick the habit. It doesn-t wok for everyone but I tried other methods and none worked.

I quit smoking about a year and a half ago.
I smoked for about 5 years.

Why haven-t you quit smoking?
And if you have, has it effected your life?
I have, it was getting too expensive and getting even more.
After 12 years it-s time to quit. I-ve had a really long look @ everything the money used to buy smokes should be saved for a house deposit ; while dealing with the withdrawal ~ might need planning ~ water, mints, joining the gym. shoes for walking plan to do things that i wouldn-t normally do.
Having a good support of people around u who are going to be there when times are really tough, would be a good help.
It-s already changed my life as i don-t feel like smoking I would rather smell clean then stale! and i can see the bank account getting larger!!
I quit for 9 years then like an idiot started again now its time to quit all over again
after smoking since i was twelve i have finally almost broke it every now and then i have to have maybe two or three in quick succession but im stopping even that by holding out until i just have to have one but a few years ago it used to be much worse and im happy with my progress so far. i also run a lot now and eat healthily and drink much less frequently. so all in all it has helped me so far.

Have you personally quit smoking cigarettes or known someone who has? If so, what if any quit smoking aids did they use to help them and in what manner were they used? I want to try my 4th attempt at quiting smoking and all input and advice would be greatly appreciated.
I had tried to quit smoking for about 5 years or so. The patches worked, but only for a few days or so. The only thing that ever worked for me was the new pill Chantix. It works by turning off the nicotine receptors in the brain. I didn-t even have the cravings for a cigarrete. The only thing that gave me trouble was the habbit of the motion of smoking. What helped me with that was suckers. Good luck. By the way, these pills are not covered by most insurance and costed me about $130 a month.
The addiction is 99% in your mind because you believe you need cigarettes. But the truth is you don-t. You didn-t need them before you started to smoke did you?

Try using Allen Carr’s Easyway To Stop Smoking. You can buy the book, watch the DVD or attend an Allen Carr Clinic. All Allen Carr therapists have been smokers and have used his method to quit. Providing you have an open mind, you will find this method not only easy but enjoyable. It doesn’t have to be traumatic. Smokers make it hard for themselves because they don’t go about it the right way. Check out the website http://www.allencarr.com.au/states/qld to find out more.
My husband quit cold turkey
3 of my friend quit cold turkey
my father and his wife cold turkey
And for me still puffing away, I have tried the patch, didn-t work, tried cold turkey, didn-t work.
Good luck, if you find a way please let me in on it.
I quit smoking with a big jar of chew lollies a dark room and plenty of video rentals to keep me distracted. That was it, and 3 years later I cant stand the smell of cigarettes.

You need to find the real reason for your smoking. Sometimes people start as teenagers because they are depressed, often quitting can bring on depression for this reason.

Other smoke to cope with stress, If this is your reason its a good time to develop coping strategies (breathing exercises, writing a to do list, taking things one step at a time)

Another common reason for smoking is because everyone you know does (i use to work in the hospitality industry, and every break the whole staff smoked)

I have read that -weaning- can be really sucessful long term. Have a cigarette 2 hourly, then 3 hourly...4 hourly ect.

The best advice I can give from my own struggle is just dont smoke!- when you feel like caving in... just dont!!!

good luck, your lungs (and your wallet) will thank you
Good question. I tried many times to quit myself. This is basically what I did:

So the things that I think aided in my “kicking the habit” were these:

1. Made a conscious acknowledgment that I wanted to quit.

2. I made it a hassle to smoke, by restricting myself on when and where I could smoke.

3. Played a small mind game, by telling myself that I would smoke later, knowing later would never come.

4. A goal to be healthier and richer by not smoking anymore.

In the link below, I have gone into more detail on how and what I did in these 4 points. This worked and I have been smoke free for going on 7 years now.
Talk to a neurologist about Requip and Bromochriptine. They will greatly reduce and/or eliminate your feelings of withdrawal from nicotine. This use of these medications is approved by the FDA.
hmm the best aid is motivate your own self
the one who smoke is you
so at first you can smoke
and you also can quit do ya
but to quit is not easy as word to say it
if you quit immediately you can damage your own health
and your weight can immediately grow fast as hell
that-s mean you can became fat as fast you don-t realize it
also your lungs and hearts beats can be slow down after you quit immediately
you also cannot breath like usual
that-s mean your blood was block by nicotine
and air cannot reach your brain that-s why some people became stroke
if you really want to quit smoking
first the first step is
at least every day you have to take nicotine, by gum nicotine
but not to much...
and at same time you need to make some physical activity,
and do more exercise
it because your need to make your blood work usual like people who din-t smoke
you need to drink much water like usual need 7 glasses but if smoker need more
it because you need to stable your body system
i dont know how to spell it what i mean your sweat and other
thats you need to do
and also the last thing to do is
you need to motived your self
this is according a theory
sore dake ganbarimasu yo
i started smoking when i was 12..and quit when i was 52!!..
i used commit..but i also got addicted to it so now i use mints!..works like a charm..haven-t smoked since Nov 2006 and can-t stand the smell of cig smoke!!...
BUT..i still want a cig every day..the way i keep from smoking is by telling myself that i WANT a smoke but i don-t NEED a smoke and that does the job..
i feel 100% better...yea..i put on 50 lbs but i know in time they will come off...i feel it-s worth it to quit smoking!!..you are the only one who can do this..no one can do it for you...good luck
i used the commit brand lozenges, the cherry flavored kind, not only could i tolerate the taste, but it really helped me out so much at first that by the end of the first month of myself quitting. Thy the commit website or the american cancer society
hi :)
i smoked for quite a while then gave up for 8 whole years but started again last year ....the first time i gave up using will power but this time i did find it harder as i again gave up 2 months ago i began by using nicorette chewing gum for aprox 2 weeks then weaned myself off that - onto normal extra chewing gum i found both were much a muchness :) i have nbeen quite successful in this ...i also made sure ive had heaps of fresh fruit here to munch on - licorice as this helps also ..........its more a case of getting rid of the finger to mouth habit i found ....try going for a little walk when u get a craving if you can occupy your mind for a breif moment you can forget about that craving until next one hits ...take each day at a time get thru one day and tell yourself how gr8 you are going ,etc etc each day do the same and definently reward your good work too ....each day remember the $ you are saving , the longer life youll be having , the fresher air , the better skin , the more pleasant breath lol .....there are way too many health benefits not to keep trying ..if you fail - have a smoke just wait a few days - try again ...hope some of this helps you
good luck !

If so, did it work? Any other ideas for a devout smoker who needs to kick the habit
Are you referring to the laser in your ear? If so, I just did it last Wednesday night. I was a 3 pack a day smoker and I haven-t had a cigarette since. What it does is ... it gets rid of the craving. I mean, you-ll still -want- a cigarette, but you won-t crave one.

I-m not saying it worked for me, because it-s only been a few days ... but so far it-s working.

Good luck!
no idea about the laser surgery.

but get a band of supporters to help you kick this habit. buy patches and gum and dont do the whole -just one last one- becuase it never will be.
as far as i know there is no such thing. your doctor should have many options and can set you up with a support group for people who are trying to quit smoking. hang in there :)
laser surgery??????????????
Laser surgery sounds like an expensive alternative. Go out and get a Value size pack of suger-free gum and try to start a healthy habit like going to the gym.
never heard of that!!! the best ways are either those patches that you can buy at the hardware store or to have someone watch you. If your trying to give up then good luck!!!!
what are you smoking?? laser sugery???
please stop smoking period
What laser surgery? ive never heard of such a thing...

They have some new medication out that controlls the urge to smoke(its not a patch it-s a new pill form) My dad has it, and he hasnt smoked in 2 months.

I quit smoking and now want to eat non-stop, how do I stop myself from doing this? -

I don-t want medication or nicotine patches.
Chew gum!
Honey it is just tough - I found success (finally) with a combo of exercise and the patch. I only used the patch for about two weeks and worked out every day. Once you get over that physical withdrawl portion, you-re home free. You honestly can do it. No one ever told me that when you get past the physical addiction, you don-t even think about it. And I quit more than eight years ago. You-re in my thoughts and prayers. Get moving and you won-t eat so much.
smoke!
Everytime you feel like you want to smoke or eat, take a short walk. That works for me.
my advice is take up smoking again lol
exercise more, it will cancel out the extra food. Reach for low fat snacks. Fruit, jello, etc.
gum!!!!!!!!
Find something to do that doesnt allow you to eat all the time or smoke.. volunteer....
I would knock myself out with pills till the nicotine left my system but I love smoking too much to quit.

Quit smoking / chewing tobacco / dipping and now Im having nightmares and lucid dreams? -

I quit all nicotine products about a week ago and I-ve since started having nightmares. I quit cold turkey, so no patches or gum could be the cause. I-ve been waking up 7-8 times a night at different hours after having crazy dreams, some are nightmares and some are just confusing. I haven-t had a solid nights sleep in a week and I could really use any feedback or help. Is this related to quitting? Does it last long? Any remedies?
I quit Monday, and though they haven-t been horrible nightmares..I have had some crazy dreams too. I did read it-s normal and it-s even normal to dream about smoking in your dreams. I haven-t done that part yet, but I hope these dreams go away. I just feel exhausted. I need a good night-s sleep.

I don-t remember if it lasts long or not. I-m THINKING I read a few weeks, but I can-t swear on it.

Good luck and hope you get a good night-s rest too!

Does goldenseal work for a marijuana test? I have quit smoking cold turkey but i need to pass for a job.? -

what is the difference between the pill and tea? does it matter if it shows up that i took goldenseal? its not illegal to take. i could be taking it for a cold or for a herbal remedy. i do not want to take any of that other detox stuff, because it does not work.. i failed a test last week by buying Vales/ Terminater Gold.. thats a joke
take cranberry pills and drink lots of water it helps clean out your urinary track or you can drink about fifteen to tweety beers and pee it out that way too. but the pills are the key it worked for me.
Most tests will look for a masking agent.

Did you quit smoking and gain or not gain weight? -

Did you quit smoking and gain or not gain weight? -

Tell me about it. I am worried about weight gain byt i really need to quit smoking i have heard it is inevitable to gain 15-20 lbs. please include your age and weight gain if any. thx!!
a lot of people gain weight just because they need something to do to keep their hands busy. those smoking classes recommend carrying 1 of those stress reliever balls, or a pencil, or something else thin about the size of a cigarette to keep your hand busy. it isnt inevitable. just make it a point to start exercising too. that will help keep the pounds off, and try eating healthier. u dont have to gain weight when u quit. it is possible to stay the same or even lose weight. u just have to be determined. hope this helps! good luck!
I quit and put on weight..Now i-m back smoking, still got that weight i put on. It-s a lose-lose situation for me.. :)
Well, I-m 33 and all I-ll say about my weight is that I-m not a small girl. lol But when I quit smoking, I wanted to quit, I was done, I didn-t want to do it anymore, was tired of being sick all the time and hacking my brains out. I-d just had enough. So I-d already made the decision. What I did to conquer the hand to mouth was get things to suck on for when cravings hit. More often than not, that was a sucker, and I didn-t go cheap on those suckers, either, I picked out the good ice cream flavored ones. lol But I also sucked on the occassional popsycle. But I didn-t gain any weight, because I was very conscious of it. I-ve also heard of people munching carrot and celery sticks during cravings. Just plan for it and have alternatives for hwen that craving hits and you-ll be fine.
The weight gain is not unavoidable, but when I ran a smoking cessation clinic in association with my community hospital, forty percent of our clients did experience a weight gain. Clinically, you-d have to gain more than a hundred pounds to even begin to offset the benefits of quitting. Do be aware that it-s tempting to substitute food for the cigarette, and find a non-calorie substitute if you crave something in your mouth - like calorie-free candies or diet, caffiene-free colas. Just don-t eat a whole roll or bag of those candies all in a day - some of -em are sweetened with sorbitol, that also acts as a laxative if overdone...
I quit 3 yrs ago and I am 30 yrs old . I did gain weight and it was 20 lbs but i feel way better and less stinky but i think the weight gain depends on life style i always smoked and never had time to think how bad it stinks and how much fun i have not worrying about running out and where can i smoke at but i am a female and i had some really bad pap tests and the dr thought it was being caused by smoking he removed it and it came back i quit smoking and have been doing good ever since so health wise 20 lbs is better than cancer.I am now back to my preweight so it will work out .
keep active where u dont think of ur addiction... and try gum...it helped me
smoking is bad for your health just have a proper diet like eating vegetables your gonna be ok
just leave smoking by any means no matter weight gain or consider (if want to lead a decent life!)
When I quit a few years ago, I didn-t gain a pound. I just didn-t allow myself to try and satiate my oral fixation with food. You have to be very strong willed and not allow yourself to eat anything in place of having a smoke.
i heard when you stop, you lose weight cuz you can exercise and get your heart rate up and breath better.
Two reasons I gained was one, to replace that oh-so-good after meal smoke with something sweet, and two, to keep busy. Once you quite you will miss the -doing something with your hands- thing. Once you find what ever it is to fill those gaps, esp. exercises or some sort of physical hobby, you will lose anything you might have gained. Unless your an addictive type who re-discovers mail order cheese cake and Springer, then maybe there-s trouble in your future.
I was 26, gained and lost 15lbs.
I quit 2 years ago. I did gain about 15 lbs but I think an extra 15lbs is better than heart disease, lung cancer or emphysema.

Just put it in your mind that you are quitting for yourself. Drink lots of water, exercise and heat healthy - Sugar free candy and gum also helped.

ALSO IVE BEEN SMOKING FOR 3 YEARS, PRETTY HEAVILY FOR THE LAST YEAR OR SO. WHAT DO YOU THINK MY LUNGS LOOK LIKE RIGHT NOW. I NEED TO KNOW IF THEY CAN HEAL OR IF ITS A LOST CAUSE.
Copngrats on not being a smoker. Your lungs will be pink again in about 6 months. Yay!!! Good for you, buddy!!
Yes, over time your lungs will heal themselves. As soon as you quit smoking your lungs begin to correct. The longer you stay a non smoker the better your lungs get.
yes they can heal since you have only been smoking a small amount of time. especially if you are kind of young
The damage you have done will be permanent. Bby stopping you will not do more damage. Smoking also effects all of your blood vessels by causing hardening of the vessel walls. This leads to high blood pressure and clotting diorders. you-re not a lost cause though. Your lungs have a high tolerance. Take care of them, and they-ll take care of you
Probably not.. but it will stop further damage.

Stop now! It-s not a lost cause at all..

Stop stop stop!!

I love smoking pot, but it ***** with me more now then when i was in high school, i never used to get paranoid or angry when i smoked back in the day but now i find taht i am very paranoid and almost depressed when i smoke, its like i cant control it anymore. when i was a teen i remember it feeling so good with no paranoia or depression wtf is up with that?
If you think you can kick the habit and you are aware of problems that the weed is causing then DO IT!!! Smash that bong Brother!!! Time to get high on life my man!! Step outside your box and have a crack at the world, your just as good as anybody else! If you don-t like what you find you can always come back. You will always be welcome, just don-t come empty handed!! LOL.... Good Luck Bud!
Same thing happened with me 4 months ago. But mine i think was triggered by a medication i began taking the day before i ever had a problem with it before. I quit the medication because it interrupted my daily life horribly, (not just smoking) but I still had panic attacks whenever I smoked after I stopped. So I think now my smoking-related panic attacks are psychosomatic and I don-t think there-s anything I can do about it. So eventually I gave it up for good. Sadly lol.
I read that pot has been linked to dementia and Alzheimer-s.

Those -children of the 60s- thought it was just fun like many
today. But the medical community has proven that false.
If it-s no good anymore there-s no reason to smoke it.
YES!
it sounds like you already answered your own question

Any successful ways to quit smoking? -

Below is what I wrote to a similar question. My response was chosen as the best answer.

Quitting smoking is not an easy thing to do, especially alone. The longer you-ve smoked, the harder it is going to be to kick the habit.

Quitting is going to require the assistance / guidance of a support group. Friends, family, and colleagues are going to have to support you during this time.

Trying to quit cold turkey usually doesn-t work. Using tools such as Nicotene Gum or a patch will help to reduce cravings. Eating carrot or celery sticks will help with the or-al fixation associated with smoking.

Getting help from your doctor is probably a good way to go as well.

The American Cancer Society provides some good information as does the Wikipedia. Tobacco Free California is also a good resource to get help.

Bottomline, start with a plan. Involve your friends and family, and decide what is going to work best for you.

Good luck!
I found restricting myself to less each day and then smoking a cigar while inhaling helped a lot
Make up your mind to do it, and stick to your committment. There is no easy magical way to do it.
Determination. My boyfriend, now my husband used to chew tobacco and he did it since he was 13 yrs old, he said (he was 29 when he quit). It was disgusting and told him so. But he didn-t quit for that reason. I sat down with him and discussed the possibilities of chewing/smoking tobacco and how much it could affect not only himself but every one who loves him. It did go through his senses and QUIT just like that. One day, he attempted to chew. We filled gas in this station and he went inside and bought the chew. Luckily, I am familiar of the merchandising of the store and I knew he was buying for the KODIAK brand. I was in the car. So he came back and tried to bribe me with candies and chocolate but I insisted for him to give me whatever was in his pocket. HE refused to give it to me but I was firm about helping him to stay healthy - he finally gave it up, and while I was driving I threw it out the window! Since then, he never did chew.

It-s a matter of how serious you are and the support you have around you. Try it and think about your health and your family.
I asked a friend of mine how she did it, she said she just suffered it out.
yeah... research it and see the effects smoking has on the body... trust me I saw it in class and I never want to even think about smoking.
You can ask this question on a hospital. I don`t know where you are from. But here in Denmark we have many free phone numbers where we can ask this type of question to them then they will help us freely. And goverment pays for the service.
Ideas to Help You Quit :

ok also you can read that ( If you have tried to quit smoking, you know how hard it can be. It is hard because nicotine is a very addictive drug. For some people, it can be as addictive as heroin or cocaine.
Quitting is hard. Usually people make 2 or 3 tries, or more, before finally being able to quit. Each time you try to quit, you can learn about what helps and what hurts.

Quitting takes hard work and a lot of effort, but you can quit smoking. )
just tried and God will help you

HOW WILL I QUIT SMOKING WHEN ALL MY FRIENDS SMOKE? -

i-ve been smoking since february and i wish i never started! anyway ive said so many times i-d quit but then i go out to my friends and there all smoking..and i cant ask them to not smoke in front of me cause they all need their smokes so any tips!
plus i dont even no where to start when giving up its so hard
It sounds like you are probably too young to be trying to quit. Wait a few years until you have mostly non-smoking friends. Until then, smoke and enjoy yourself.
You do this by eradicating every cigarette you-ve had stored away in the house before making this decision. I failed once because there was a carton in the freezer and when I wanted to relapse, I had the fix at my fingertips. It-s not your friends- fault, as smokers typically light up once an hour and you probably hang out much longer than that. It-s very unrealistic to expect them to go without all the time. If you don-t go cold turkey, use the gum instead of the patch.
If your friends don-t respect you enough to stop smoking in front of you, then maybe they aren-t really your friends. As for the quiting issue- I would try that chewing gum that helps you stop and if you aren-t much of a chewer try a stick on patch. If it-s a permanent thing, then try not to have contact with cigaretts in the first place. If none of this helps, than I would call a phychiatrist to help you. Good Luck!
You just got to get some help.... Most of my friends smoke.
When I decided to stop, I got help in the site:

http://smoke.freebies-and-trials.com

In the first week it was easy for me, I stayed in Home, and take some natural products to help me.

In the second week , I return to my habits and It was a bit hard in the first 2 days.

Right now , whenever I am with my friends , they smoke and I just simply don′t care.

Helping my boyfriend and I quit smoking? -

Me and my boyfriend have quit smoking as of Saturday night. We are trying to be each other-s support team. Anyways, he has been smoking A LOT longer than I have, and at times I feel like I am almost ignoring my symptoms and cravings for him. Which is good for me, but I want to do somethings for him that reward him for not lighting up, but I can-t really think of anything. Tonight I am gonna take him out for dinner because it has been offically 2 days since -we- smoked, but I wanna give him little rewards here and there, that he can look at and maybe use to get him through the cravings that he is experiencing... Any ideas of what I could do?
since smoking is an addiction and any weakness for addictions come in your dna, what you need is a substitute for the smoking.

Frankly if your bf has done better than you then I presume he has been cheating (smoking when you don-t know it) because it-s not that easy to stop.

People over 30 use the patch which is successful, and so is hypnosis....but if you go to a shink they will tell you to substitute one bad habit for another. Sometimes people use lollipops, gum, a rubberband on your wrist and snap it when you have a desire to smoke, and don-t put yourself into a situation wherein you-re around smoke or the reason to smoke (sometimes people smoke when they are bored or when relaxing as in chatting with friends, or nervous). Find out which situation is strongest when you would smoke and eliminate that kind of situation and replace it with something better like a fun course, joining a group who do activities but who don-t smoke, etc.

Rewarding is nice, but a meal to celebrate only two days is kinda silly, don-t you think? If you-re going to give a gift (if you really feel like you have to do that) then buy a small token gift (don-t replace smoking with eating) that-s worth only a couple of bucks and a homemade card. If you remind someone too much of something they will fall back into it. But since you-re not with him all the time you really don-t know if he-s cheating (not smoking) or not. He might feel that this stop smoking idea is all yours and he doesn-t want to say that to you. Men are like that.
Greetings...and congrats on your decision to stop smoking. I wrote a journal when I quit of what I was feeling etc. so maybe you could make him a progressive non smoker scrap book. Day One...Day Two...etc. Just a thought.

I also started a yahoo group when I quit. 7 months ago (I used Chantix) and have attached extensive files, links, news etc. to the site that can answer any question you might have concerning smoking and quitting. Real answers and not the stuff I have been reading that was previously posted for you by others. Feel free to have a look and both of you....Take Care and Hang In There.

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Sta…

I took a quit smoking class at the health department and they suggested saving up three dollars a day per person (the cost of a pack) and then go on vacation or buy something that you really want.
buy him nicorette gum
When I wanted to stop smoking I came across this book, the Easy Quit System, you can find it at http://www.bjm-web.com/EasyQuitSystem . This book was a great motivator, I didn-t wanted to touch another sigaret again, and have been smoking a pack a day for the last 15 years. It worked like a charm.

How can get motivated to quit smoking? Chain smoking? -

Go online and search for -smoking cessation.- There are many programs available, but they all teach similar things.

You can find a free online program at any number of sites, so there-s no need to spend monrey.

Patches helped me a lot, but it took a number of tries, and then, -sigh- I started again. I plan to quit again next month.

Good luck!
Write out a list if you have to of all the reasons why it would be good to quit and write reasons why it would benefit you to keep smoking. The list with the reasons to quit should be longer for example you-d save money, live longer, be healthier, not harm others with the smoke from your cigarette, find a better activity or thing to do instead of smoke like listen to music, relax, do yoga, whatever would calm you down/ make you happy, etc. Once you see that it would be best to quit smoking you really have to mean it not just realize yeah it-s bad, but have resolve and know that you must not smoke anymore. Some people quit by using nicotine patches, but there are strong willed people or people who just really knew they had to quit who just put down their cigarette box and didn-t touch another cigarette again. Good luck to you.
My best friend works in a senior care home and there is a woman in there who has been smoking for 60 years and has a hole in her throat and she cannot breathe without an oxygen tank, and must breathe through the hole. She can-t eat anything, so ashe has an IV hooked up to her arm giving her nutrients. Her skin is yellow. So, if that-s not enough motivation to quit smoking, well, that will be you in about 60 years.
replace it with something, i started kickboxing and found out kick that i could not do both so i stopped smoking

Does tar stay in your lungs forever after youve quit smoking? -

I used to smoke but i went cold turkey coz i was afraid that i would get cancer and heart disease from it.So i was wondering with all the cigarettes that i smoked and the tar left behind in my lungs. Does it stay there forever ? or does it go away somehow ?
It goes. It takes about a decade, but it goes, don-t worry.
they do stay in your lungs for some time but it slowly is extracted by the body. will eventually go, as long as you stay healthy.
yes it will u shude have not started 2 smoke

god bless u
It will go away natrually, but it takes some time. Depending on how long/much you smoke, it could take anywhere from 6 months to 10 years.
It goes away eventually, after ten years of smoking cessation your body has recovered to the point that any effects have gone - its as if you-ve never smoked at all. So 9 years and 363 days for me to go then!
take many years up to 40 even longer but they will never be the same again
The cilia in your lungs will eventually remove it. It-ll take a while.
No, it will not stay there forever. Usually after you have quit smoking...the tar will begin to resolve after about 7 years. It may seem like a long time to just BEGIN...but thats better than to keep adding to it right?

Glad u quit smoking...I think it-s unattractive in men and women.
only till you die.not forever.
your lungs heal but the damage is already donee they r scared fo life
it goes away...eventually. nothing immediate.
I think that the tar does stay. However, i do think your body gets rid of some of it through breathing and blood circulation. Try searching it on the interenet. I-m not entirely sure.

Does The Patch Really Work If You Want To Quit Smoking for Good? -

Does The Patch Really Work If You Want To Quit Smoking for Good? -

The patch is great. It takes all the stress out while you learn how not to hold a cigarette . Nicotine gum is great. BOTH require willpower. You will find that the psychology of smoking is the worst thing to break. Be determined.
The patch is designed to pump nicotine into your system to help ease nicotine withdrawal.

I have taught hundreds of people how to quit smoking, and I have found that the patch doesn-t work for most people.

The reason?

They rely too heavily on the patch. When the can-t quit

they say: the patch didn-t work for me.

The method that I have found that works the best is to taper down on how much you smoke. Smoke only when you absolutely need one. Within a week you should be down to 3 or 4 cigarettes a day.

At that point, you are only fighting the urge to smoke 3 or 4 times a day (rather than 20 or 40 if you smoke a pack or two a day) and when you do quit, the nicotine withdrawal isn-t as severe because you have already cut down.

Some people are able to look at the patch as a short-term crutch to help them quit -- that-s all it is--and for them the patch can work.

If he has decided that he wants to quit and has asked for your help, ask him what he would like you to do. You could also ask him if he-d like for you to research information about the health effects of smoking if he doesn-t already know them. If he isn-t familiar with the different products that help people quit smoking, you can ask him he he-d like for you to research about these products.

Basically, simply ask him what he-d like for you to do to help him.
Tell him that you won-t ever talk to him if he smokes.
Also tell him about the bad effects of smoking.
Let him do it on his own terms. Voicing your opinion will help but you can-t force or scare anybody into doing something they ultimately don-t want to do.

Good luck with it, just try not to take it too far.
Don`t force him to stop.
Ask him to get patches from the doctor or limit his cigarettes.
By limiting his cigarettes that means he will just gradually quit in months.
throw all of his lighters and cigarettes away when he isn-t looking then he might get tired of them going missing and will run out of money to buy more. if it-s cigarettes that you want him to quit smoking...
You can-t, he knows the same facts you do so the only way he-s going to quit is if he decides to do it himself.
tell him the doc called and said he had lung cancer

The best way to quit smoking without putting weight on? -

Any Tips? I tried at the beginning of the year but put on about half a stone in 6 weeks. I need some advise before I try again.

Thanks in advance :-)
Eat healthy and stay active, this will definitely help keep the weight off. If you have sugary cravings, eat some fruit which has natural sugars, or have some gum.
You know that smoking suppresses appetite right? and that usually leads to weight gain by most people quitting on smoking, because their appetite is increased.

The thing you need to do is replace that with something that can suppress your appetite. You need to get off on smoking, its really bad. Try drinking mild coffee when you get the urge to smoke.
Weight gain is a normal side effect of quitting. Don-t worry about it: quitting is harder than losing weight. Quit first, and then, when you-re comfortable, lose the weight. I recommend Chantix, believe it-s callled Champix where you are.
instead or replacing your smoking addiction to food, lead to gum.
Not high sugary gums, just like mint ones
like excel and trident. =]

What pills can you get from the Doc to help quit smoking and what do they do? -

I-m interested in anything that can help me stay off the ciggies. So if anyone can help that would be fantastic. I-m already on day 4 and still feeling positive!

What pills can the doc give me and what do they do?
zyban. they make you not want to smoke. supposedly very effective. there-s also a tablet, i cant remember the name but it souns very like -tampax- (lol i know) and it does the same thing.
Hi, The pills from the dr are called champix here in the uk called something else in usa etc ,, its a 12 week course, you start taking them before you give up and then quit on between day 8 and day 12 they are very good but you still need willpower you must want to give up ,, i gave up using them 15 monthes ago and would recomend them ,, now being smoke free is great even though i still ocasionally crave for a smoke , but never gave in yet ,,goodluck you can do it, i was a 40 a day man for like 25 years .
Ask for Chantix. I had smoked for 20 yrs and couldn-t seem to quit. I couldn-t use Zyban because I had allergic reaction to it. The Chantrix is better because you continue to smoke when you start taking it. Pick a day to quit ( I took the meds for 2 wks. before quitting) This stuff works by blocking the nicatine from getting to your brain. You may find yourself smoking more at first, but thats because your not getting the nicatine. When I finally decided to not light up I thought I wouldn-t last till noon, but it-s been almost 2 yrs. now and I have never looked back. I-m free !
my friend has just has a leg operation ,and she has to quit, there is a pill from the doctor, cant remember name but your doc will know, it works like this, you take the pills, but keep smoking for a set time, a week i think, then you stop smoking, must be the pills kick in, two people my friend knows have done it using this tablet, so go to doc and get it,
There are 2 different ones Zyban has been around for years - helps, newest one is Champix which I tried - you start pills - set a date to stop, you keep taking them under medical supervision. I gave up without too much of a struggle. I could not take Zyban as I am epileptic. Champix is only prescribed after you have tried everything else - not succeeded in giving up. Try to carry on as you are rather than taking pills as they all have side effects. I believe medication is a last resort. Good Luck.
champix tablets you take them for about 10 days smoking less each day then you pick a day to stop they are very good im on them now you take them until you stop completely just take one now and again
Chantix and Wellbutrin.
