i did it for 12 days and then started again on new years and i just need some strong suggestions but i dont want the gum or patch... any help?
What are some effective ways to quit smoking?

While there is no one best way to quit smoking, you will be most successful if you are aware of the challenges ahead, find support, and prepare a plan to keep you on track. Here are some basic steps to quitting:

S = Set a quit date.
T = Tell family, friends, and co-workers that you plan to quit.
A = Anticipate and plan for the challenges you-ll face while quitting.
R = Remove cigarettes and other tobacco products from your home, car, and work.
T = Talk to your doctor about getting help to quit.

Be realistic. Quitting is not an easy undertaking. It requires effort, determination and commitment.
-Accept the fact that you need to quit. Do not deny the
adverse health effects that you are unnecessarily putting yourself (and those around you) through.
-Be prepared for anxious and resistant feelings. Since nicotine is habit-forming, just thinking about quitting may make you feel anxious – this is quite common. Give yourself a specified amount of time to identify and move beyond these feelings.
-Take quitting one day at a time, even one minute at a time—whatever you need to succeed and find support!
-Develop a quit plan that works best for your needs.
-Talk to your doctor or health professional to help develop a plan.
-Enlist the help of family and friends by telling them about your plans.
-Ask others who have quit how they handled withdrawal symptoms – both psychological and physical.
-Learn new behaviors.
-If you’ve tried quitting before, identify what did and didn’t work for you. Build on your strengths and discover new techniques.-
It is enough you quit smoking. That will be my victory. I want you to spread this to all your smoker friends and save them. Thanks for the compliments

Why not the patch?

I did the patch stepping down each 2 weeks it worked and in October I have been smoke free for a year.

Good Luck
Might need an anti anxiety pill to get thru the withdrawel
I-ve heard that you can take some tobaco and boil it, like a tea or something. Drink that up. You-ll get nausea, probably throw up if you-ve got a weak stomache, then you-ll have an aversion to tobaco and it-ll help a lot to counter your cravings.
Go to your doctor and get some CHANTIX, this medication if taken properly is helping people quit. Be warned though it is kind of expensive, but if you are serious about quitting, give it a shot.

also go to WWW.QUITNET.COM for some great support.

Good luck
There are already good suggestion in your answers. Do not give up. give it up again. It is a nicotine addict on and the cravings are diff cult to cope with. You also need something to do with your hands, in order to overcome the habit. a hobby such as knitting croche, playing piano, typing or what ever is done with hands is helpful. It is not doing something that you are used to do. There are many ways you can work at this and be succesful, and it will be the best thing you have done for yourself when you are free from nicotine. Is there a friend that is also trying to quit? Would it help to do it together? See yourself without a cigarette in your hand. Many others have done it and are smoke free, You will be able to do it. www.quitnet.com it is a good and informative site. God Bless you
Get on the patch!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
