How many times have you attempted to quit smoking? -

2 for me. you know the saying -Quitting is easy, ive done it a hundred times-.
I just quit 2 days ago after smoking for 16 years.

This is my 3rd attempt but the first one I actually consider being serious and lasting.

Everytime I want a cigarette I think that I have gone without one for so many hours already that having one will just ruin the whole thing.

When you are ready to quit, you will. I thought that was b/s till now. Its totally true though. Good Luck
I was always trying to quit, been smoke free for about 19 or 20 years now.
Twice, and the last time, my blood pressure (which was low before that) raised to the point that I had to take meds for it, I had constant hives, and gained 50 pounds. After two years, while attending a Stones concert (that-s what us old farts do), I had a craving for a cigarette. Started smoking again, lost 35 of the 50, don-t get hives anymore, but my BP is still high. I guess they-ll just have to kill me.
I think I did it 10-12 times before it finally took. Best thing I ever did. I hate it now
I have tried more than I care to admit maybe 8-10 times. But I guess when I am really ready I will do what I did when I wanted to stop drinking. I just quit. But I am co dependent on these things. On my way to take a puff now. Good luck to you!
I actually do quit quite often.
I am the epitome of a -social smoker-.
I really enjoy smoking and will smoke for months, then I will decide that I don-t want to anymore so I stop. I-ll stop for a few weeks, or a few months, or even a year or so. But then for whatever reason, I-ll have a cigarette and just keep on smoking for the next few months. Then I-ll stop again. It-s quite ridiculous actually.

I also say that I am -not smoking- today, or right now or lately - rather than saying I-ve QUIT (I-m sure that-s pretty hokey of me, but I feel better saying I-m NOT smoking, rather than I-ve QUIT smoking)
Like 5 or 6.
Zero. Thanks for asking.

Tell me how you quit smoking. Or any good ideas? -

I-ve been smoking cigarettes for only 3 years, but still feels wayy too long. I-ve tried a million times to just quit cold turkey, but it is just NOT working. Especially when I drink alcohol or when I am around others who smoke. How-d you quit? Or do you know of any remedies?
hi Silhouette..

yep quitting is a bear, but it is doable.. i smoked for over 40 years, and like you tried repeatedly to quit... using not only, cold turkey, but pills, patches, and other aides..

the good news for me is that i did in fact quit... I have been nicotine free for over 5 years now.. what worked for me when other methods failed, was involvment in a support group..i attend nicotine anonymous meetings, both locallly, and on line... on line voice meetings are as close as your computer..

however you decide to quit good luck, there is simply no wrong way to quit!! its a solid decision!!

There-s a video on howcast.com called -how to stop smoking- Type it in the howcast website and you-ll find it. It basically sais to suck on lollypops any time you feel the urge to smoke. Also if you exersize every day your just naturally not as bothered by not smoking.
My mother used this patch, It injected the smoking thing in her, But every day the injection got smaller and smaller, and sooner or later she quit smoking. I don-t know where she got it, Though.
Maybe this article will guilt you into quitting.

What I recommend is still cold turkey. This free website can help you. www.whyquit.com

Anyone quit smoking for 2 years and still had mucous in their throat? -

I-ve quit smoking for actually 2 years and 7 months and I still have to clear my throat and have this clear mucous all the time. I was wondering if that has happened to anyone out there that has quit smoking.
It damages your lungs mechanism to clean itself.

Over time, it may improve.
Dear Krystal,

Congratulations! You have almost reached the stage to complete normalcy like you were before being a smoker. The medicos unanimously agree and comment that it takes 3 years for your body and respiratory system to become fully normal, unless you had any serious problem when you were a smoker.

I was a moderate (8 to 10 cigarrettes/day) smoker for a long time. I fell sick on last June 12, 07, due to excessive drainage of sodium/pottassium salt through sweating and I was in ICU for about a week. I grabbed this opportunity to quit smoking, from the day I fell sick. I do get clear mucous only in the morning while I brush my teeth and clear my throat.

I think in your case it is normal. Check if you are susceptible to cold?

Please feel free to drop few lines. I-d remain curious to know as you-re a senior to quit smoking.

We did wrong remaining as a smoker, isn-t it? Have a great time now inhaling lungs full of fresh air, and take care.

Hug and love.

:-)
Actually, yes, a couple of years after I quit smoking I thought my -allergies- were out of control. Turns out this is a result of the celia (hairs along your respiratory tract) repairing themselves. I thought I would immediately feel healthier, but in actuality, I seemed a little sicker for a couple of years. What you are experiencing is normal. Your body is now able to counteract the toxins. Now I can breathe so much better, and the results speak for themselves.
Happened to me, but i found it wasnt related to the smoking at all.

Any tips to help quit smoking? -

I-ve been smoking for four years now, and I-ve had asthma my whole life. I know, not a smart thing to pick up. Anyways, what are some little things I can do that will help make it easier for me to quit?
And I don-t really want to hear about how bad smoking is, I already know. Thanks.
You have to value your health, your family, and your life over the comfort of smoking. Think about it. It smells bad. feels bad, everything about it is just bad. its just gross. I have never done it but the point was drilled home one time when I brought this gorgeous girl back to my house in san francisco. things got a little hot and heavy then I remember the taste... my god I wanted to throw up. not kidding. I was seriously like get out of my house. Anyways, here is a tactic I like using. I use it for being lazy but it can be applied to this too. Every time you even so much as THINK about having one, you have to discipline yourself, so say, go to the gym instead. Or do something creative or productive, try a new recipe, email your friends, etc. just stop. there is no -future date- to stop. Your last cigarette was... now. PERIOD. end of story. Throw them out this is your life you are talking about. Not a game.
I smoked for about 7 years and had tried to quit by cutting back and by the patches and gum and such but the problem with those is they continue to feed your addiction continue to feed your body nicotine so it doesn-t work.....I quit cold turkey about 2 years ago I knew I would be moody and want cigarettes so I went and got my favorite hard candies at the store and gum....I planned a weekend with nothing to do.....so I stayed in my room the whole weekend and tried to sleep it off would take a Tylenol with pm to help me sleep.....it takes 48 hours for nicotine to get out of your system completely.....if you make it that 48 hours everything else is just a mind control thing with you wanting them not a addiction issue.....I learned to stay busy and stay away from people that smoked so I wouldn-t be tempted to.....about a year ago I was under a lot of stress and bought a pack of cigarettes......well I tried to smoke one and it tasted awful so tried another and same thing....I ended up giving the pack away and couldn-t do it cause they tasted horrible....Good luck!!! hope it helps
1) Make smoking as painful as possible

If you have failed to give up smoking it’s quite possible that you have not attached enough pain to the habit and hence you keep going back to it. We will do allot in life to avoid pain so why not leverage this to help you quit. So have a think right now, what’s the most painful thing about smoking? is it the health problems or the smelly clothes? You need to decide. If you can’t find one try going to visit a few cancer victims and seeing how things turn out for smokers. Whatever it takes. Continuing smoking has to be as unattractive an option as possible.

2) Make the non smoking you very attractive

You also need to look at the benefits of being a non smoker. There are many but find whichever is the most attractive to you. Is it being able to see your kids grow up? Being able to run up the stairs? Whatever it is latch on to it and let it guide you. It will keep you off the smokes as you continue along.

3) Take action

Remember that nothing in life will get done until you make the decision and put things into place. You have to stop putting off the idea of quitting and finish up now. Allot of people put off so many decisions in life put putting this one off could kill you so decide that you want to be a non smoker today and be it.
hi rowan..

congratulations on your decision to quit... that-s a big deal, good luck on that!!! after trying to quit a number of times, what finally worked for me was getting involved in a support group... i am a member of nicotine anonymous and attend meetings both locally, and on line.. on line voice meetings are as close as your computer, and your welcome to attend while still smoking!!

I recommend cutting down gradually until your quit date. I did this. I cut down to half a pack. I did this for three months. I smoked by the puff, not by the cigarette. I took only the amount of nicotine that was necessary to satisfy my urge to smoke and put the rest of the cigarette out.

After doing this for three months I quit cold turkey.

Now I-m eating more candy to distract me but its been 10 months. I have urges but they don-t last more than a second or two. If they-re lasting more than that then you-re concentrating on the cigarette. Don-t do it. Concentrate on something else.
u need to quit cold trukey....thats the best way...or u have to take some pills so if u take them u will not feel like smoking......watch a lot of videos on youtube....because on you tube people share their sucess stories....good luck to u...god bless u
buy the electronic cigarette water vapor gives you same feeling as a cancer stick without the cancer i quit cold turkey
Quitting smoking is a combination of factors. The most important one (IMO) is your comittment to quitting, no matter what. If you don-t really want to quit, and by that I mean, are you really ready to pay the price, (because there is a price...there ain-t no free lunch), and if the answer honestly is no, don-t waste your time trying.

Let me insert here, I smoked for 40 years, and quit cold turkey 16 years ago. Been there and done that. Terrible experience. Don-t want to do that again. And I-m not going to utter the old cliche, -if I can do it, you can do it-. Because that-s simply not true. What I did, and what you can do, are two entirely different situations. The potential is certainly there, which is to say, -it CAN be done. But what -can- be done has little to do with what -will- be done.

We lie to ourselves all the time. Because we are weak. We are human, and to be human is to have weak resolve, weak follow thru, weak sustainability, weak consistency, weak commitment. And an unwillingness to do what it takes to achieve a goal.

(I-m trying not to get -preachy-. I hate that...some goody two shoes demagogue looking down his holier than thou nose, telling you, he did it, now you do it. Not that simple by a wide margin)

If you-re like 99% of smokers trying to quit, you-re going to need help. Especially if you-ve been smoking longer than, oh,.....six months or so. Big Tobacco puts 4000 ingredients in every cigarette to get you hooked and keep you that way.. Nicotine gets the blame for most of it, and its not really the problem. Addictive? Yes. But it-s the other 3999 ingredients that do it to you.

Oh, and don-t buy into the theory that once you-ve quit for a month, your cravings are over. I had cravings 3 years after I quit. I used to tell anyone who would listen, I can start again today, and that was ten years after I quit. The stuff they put in cigarettes is incredibly powerful.

So how to quit, and make it stick? By now you know of or have tried the gum, the patch, the prescribed drug, yadda yadda yaddas. And they didn-t work. Why? A) you weren-t really commited to quitting, and/or, b) quitting smoking is quitting a -process- (my word). And you couldn-t handle not having the -process-. -

-Process- I define as, reaching for your cigarette pack, pulling one out, lighting it, taking a long deep drag, exhaling, and viewing the beautiful blue cloud of smoke. That-s what smoking is really all about...the -process-. So what does a patch give you...a reduction of nicotine. But what about the rest of the process? Your hands still don-t have anything to do. There-s nothing to reach for, after a meal, or getting in the car, or ordering a drink at a bar. The patch or the gum or the drug don-t offer anything that includes the rest of the -process-. Errrrggggh. Failure. Back to smoking.

There is a better way. It-s new, but its wonderful because it works. BUT ONLY IF YOU MAKE A SOLID COMMITMENT TO QUIT, NO MATTER WHAT. You better hear me, Tyrone. Don-t bullshit yourself, the public or anyone else. Do you, or don-t you, want to quit smoking?

-Yes-, you say? OK, let-s just see if its -yes- Are you willing to stop buying cigarettes today? Yes? OK, do it, you-ve ALREADY BOUGHT YOUR LAST PACK.(and have NONE hidden anywhere close by)

Are you willing to stop reaching for that pack in your shirt pocket, jeans, or purse? Yes or no? Don-t lie to yourself. Do you want to quit or not? I have an easy solution, but first you have to get your head around quitting. You either want to quit, or you don-t. There IS NO MIDDLE GROUND. If you have a built-in hedge, you are lieing to yourself. So let-s not waste each others- time.

Are we agreed, yes, you really, really want to quit? And will do what it takes (within reason) to get it done? OK, let-s move forward. Here-s the solution to the problem. And before you say, -that-ll never work- you damn well better try it. Because this works better than anything, and I mean ANYTHING, else on the market.

If you-ve never heard of electronic cigarettes, it-s time to get up to speed. Invented by the Chinese 5 years ago, electronic cigarettes are emerging as THE solution for smokers to quit. Why? Lots of reasons. There is no tobacco in e-cigs. Therefore, none of the carcinogens, tars, and other addictive junk Big Tobacco puts in real cigarettes.

E-cigs look like real cigarettes, they -smoke- like real cigarettes, including the nicotine -hit- , the inhaling, exhaling, and the -smoke- (not really...looks like cigarette smoke but its actually harmless water vapor).

Propyline Glycol and Nicotine are the only two chemicals that matter in e-cigs. The nicotine has to be there, otherwise these things would never sell squat. But the important difference is, the user can select the level of nicotine they want to inhale (normally 0 to 16 mg). This is what enables the cigarette smoker to quit.

The -process- remains in place, but without the tars and carcinogens, and a

I quit smoking and everything else? -

My lung collapsed 14 days ago so i quit smoking cigs and those left handed cigs too and also quit drinking im in my early 20s my problem is i am being an ****** to everyone i know and that is not me i am reall irritable about everything an having a hard time thinking is there something i can do or some food or vitamins to help please i dont want to lose my fiance she is the world to me i do not want any of that bad stuff back in my life
ask your doctor to give you something to calm your nerves until you get over the hump. Quitting is hard and you go through many withdrawals. Explain to him what you are going through and ask him to give you something. You may even need an antidepressant becus of the changes going on in your life. If it saves your relationship, it will be worth it. good luck
The best thing out there is Wellbutrin. It is a medication that is made to help with withdrawl syndromes. You do need a perscription for it though. Also, you could also try to herbal stuff too. You could go to any GNC or pharmacy. They might be able to give you something or some suggestions. Good luck and congrad-s on your engagment and quitting. I know it isn-t easy and your friends and fiance should support you!
This method works for me and is the only money back guaranteed.
I quite smoking 2 years ago

Get the Facts
Easyway, founded by Allen Carr in 1983, has the highest independently verified 12-month success rate (75.8% for a smoker completing the program) of any quit smoking technique and a 90% satisfaction rating.

Compare Easyway to other methods and see for yourself why Easyway is called “The Cadillac of quit smoking methods.”

The Allen Carr Method
HOW THE METHOD WORKS

Using psychotherapy, the method works in the opposite way to the “willpower” method. It does not concentrate on the reasons the smoker should not smoke : the money, the slavery, the health risks and the stigma. Smokers know all that already. Instead it focuses on why smokers continue to smoke in spite of the obvious disadvantages.

It is fear that keeps smokers hooked!

Fear the smoker will have to give up their pleasure or crutch. Fear the smoker will be unable to enjoy life or handle stress. Fear the smoker will have to go through an awful trauma to get free. Fear the smoker will never get completely free from the craving.

The Method removes these fears
Smokers quit with the Allen Carr Method as happy non-smokers, not feeling deprived but with a huge sense of relief and elation that they have finally achieved what they always wanted….

TO BE FREE!

What about the terrible withdrawal pangs from nicotine?

The physical withdrawal from nicotine is so slight that most smokers don’t realise that they are addicts. What smokers suffer when they try and quit using other methods is the misery and depression caused by the belief that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch.

The Allen Carr Method removes this feeling of deprivation.
It removes the need and desire to smoke. Once the smoker is in the right frame of mind and they follow the simple instructions, the physical withdrawal from nicotine is hardly noticeable.

No Gimmicks!

The Method does not use any gimmicks, useless aids or substitutes. No nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, tabs, inhilators or nasal sprays! No needles! No lasers! No drugs! No herbs! No shock treatment!

The Allen Carr Method is successful because:

It removes the smokers’ conflict of will.
There are no bad withdrawal pangs.
It is instantaneous and easy.
It is equally effective for long-term heavy smokers and light smokers.
You need not gain weight.
You will not miss smoking.

Medical Endorsements

A personal view from Professor Judith Mackay MBE, JP, FRCO (Edin), FRCP (Lon), World Health Organisation Advisory Panel on Tobacco and Health

“I have no hesitation in supporting Allen Carr’s work. Many clinics use some of his techniques but it would appear that few do it in quite such a successful package.”

Carole Johnson, Coronary Heart Disease Prevention Unit, Tyne Tees

“his success rate was such that, when budgets allow, we continue to use Easyway for work with specific groups and individuals.”

Dr Anil Visa BSc, MBBch., FRCA, Consultant – Royal Hospitals NHS Trust – Royal London Hospital

“I have observed the Allen Carr method at first hand and have found it to be very successful and I wholeheartedly support it as an effective way to quit smoking.”

Dr William Green, Head of Psychiatric Dept, Matilda Hospital, Hong Kong

“It is a remarkable fact that Allen Carr, on his own admission a non-professional in behaviour modification, should have succeeded where countless psychologists and psychiatrists holding postgraduate qualifications have failed, in formulating a simple and effective way to stop smoking.”

Dr Martin Jarvis, Principle Scientist, Imperial Cancer Research
Fund and Reader in Health Psychology, University College London

”...I am more than happy to testify to Allen Carr’s enduring involvement and to recognise the value of the kind of behavioural and cognitive support he provides.”

Dr PM Bray MB CH.b., MRCGP

“I was really impressed by the method. In spite of the Allen Carr organisation’s success and fame, there were no gimmicks and the professional approach was something a GP could readily respect. I would be happy to give a medical endorsement of the method to anyone.”

Celebrity Endorsements

-His method is absolutely unique, removing the dependence on cigarettes, while you are actually smoking. I’m pleased to say it has worked for many of my friends and staff.”
Sir Richard Branson

“Some friends of mine who had stopped using Allen Carr’s method suggested I tried it. I did. It was such a revelation that instantly I was freed from my addiction. Like those friends of mine, I found it not only easy but unbelievably enjoyable to stay stopped.”
Sir Anthony Hopkins

GOOD LUCK!
Talk to your doctor
This will pass...I know it is hard and the best thing to do is to ask those around you to be patient with you. Vitamin B is known as the stress complex so it may help to alleviate some of this. If you are able to do any exercises this too will help but the irritability is temporary and should not last more than a month. If it does seek out the help of a medical professional.
the patch helped me a lot with the irritablity, also try to drink a lot cranberry juice or water to help flush out the other nasty stuff

30 days. And believe it or not, through the Federal Medical Marijuana program they could not find ANY adverse effects on the body what so ever. You are going to hear a lot of BS on this question about how horrible it is for you, and it-s all based on bogus studies, and the -Refer Madness- mentality. Ciggarettes are FAR WORSE for you than marijuana. Your talking about a natural HERB, that is not filled with chemicals by some tobacco company to make you get addicted.

If they would take all the mean, abusive, alchoholics...take away there booze, and give them weed, they-d probably mellow out and not be such a**holes.

The only reason it is illegal, is because the government can make more money off of it that way, than if it was legal. That is why the propaganda machine is in full force still. They don-t want people to know the truth.
probably will depend on how much *weed* you smoked, - how strong the T.H.C in it was. Usually takes 30 days if you smoke on a regular basis.
having worked for a firm in testing it is 30 days
30 days.
Very close to 30 days.
Dude. Stop smoking weed in general. There-s like 300+ chemicals in that stuff. And it leads to worse stuff like crack and heroin. STOP NOW.
Stop smoking forever man.
But properly a month at the most.

It would be like a counter starting the day I quit and turns over each day so I can mark my success
try the yahoo widget engine, there sure have exactly what you are looking for
Make a word doc with the date you stopped as the title and choose an icon.
Congratulations!!! Quiting smoking is very hard, but worth it in so many ways. Its been 8 mo. for me now. It has gotten easier every day. I don-t really miss it anymore. I use to mark each day off on a calendar, but after 6 mo. I stopped. Good Luck - stick with it. You can do it!!!
CONGRATULATIONS for quitting smoking....

hi i quit smoking after 12 years i feel excellent about and i can now call myself a non-smoker. It has been 5 months now and I don-t feel like one or need one. Bascially what I did was let me best friend know and everyone else and on my calendar I actually marked the date that I quit and now everyday that a certain day comes up I can actually say I have quit x amount of days.
After a couple of days it becomes weeks then months. I am looking towards my first year. So maybe you shouldn-t count by days but count by your goals and expectations.

I-ve tried to quit before but could never seem to go threw with it.
Does anyone have any ideas that would help me quit smoking?

Not necessarily as a result of quitting...But if you-re eating more (as many people do when they quit smoking), it-s likely that you-d have more gas.

If it-s really bothering you (or your loved ones), get some Beano at your local drug store.

remind me how awful smoking is cause spring is here and my insides are waking up and they want a smoke real bad.
Do you know that every cigeratte you smoke takes 11 minutes off your life. What if in that 11 minutes your daughter is having your grandchild and you miss it? What if you great grandchild is being born in those 11 minutes you could have been there. So many thing you could miss out on that could happen in those 11 minutes..don-t you want to be there?
I haven-t had a cigarette since 1986, May, and to this day I still crave them when I-m stressed or rushed. I wish I had never ever done it and caused this. Sometimes all I want is a Virginia Slims Menthol Light. But then I remembered the constant sore throat, the icky taste, and now I think about how much more I enjoy spending the money on Starbucks and how it can shorten my life so I don-t see my springs or my daughter. So, I use a technique I learned when I worked at a hospital. Just take a minute and breath really, really deep, into your stomach deep and exhale for a few times. That helps remove the tension. It really is an addiction and I hope I never give back in.....Good Luck to you!!!

- it will make you stink and have bad breath
- you will just crave another one, then all the hard work you put in to quit was for nothing!!
- it can mess with your heart and lungs, eventually killing you, which is preventable by not starting up again. Do you have kids? You need to be here for them and for their kids when they have them.

We are better today than we were before we quit. I had even received a warning from my doctor that I had four years maximum to live. You may not have been in that bad of shape, but it is so great that you quit before you got to that point.

Good for you!!! Do not smoke! Stick with me, buddy!
Just think of what you have accomplished only to throw it away with one cigarette.
Okay, I will remind you how gross it is. Think of this scenario. My boyfriend bought a house recently from a smoker. She smoked so much that the walls are yellow. When he showers, the yellow, tarred and nicotine filled walls drip yellow on his head. GROSS!

Now, think about ingesting that smoke directly into your lungs. If the walls can get like that from airborne smoke, think about what you are doing to your body.

Don-t do it! Your lungs will petrify some day and you will die from not being able to breathe. Also, do you want to have to carry an oxygen tank around with you?

Hope this helps!
its very bad! don-t do it. smokers stink, and its a horrible habbit. enjoy being smoke free, chew some gum, we are all proud of you!
I-m on my 7th year smoke free and i am soooo happy i quit. I quit right after i saw my gramma with oxygen tubes in her nose, she died shortly after. To me, there is nothing worse then the feeling of not being able to breathe....
do not go beck smoking is very bad for you,you going to have ergs lick that when you are surrounded by Arther smokers,it will go away
Your body is still expelling the toxins from being a smoker, that is why you think you want a cigarette. When all you want is good health. You owe it to yourself to keep going on the road that you-re on, you-ve come too far to go backwards. Buy some of that new gum for people trying to quit smoking or some patches. That will help you overcome any cravings that you think you have. Good Luck :)
Don-t do it. I wish I could be like you and stop. Look how great you feel. Don-t let the urge take over. You will stink, be tired, cough, feel like crap and it will taste like crap too. Dang, I need to stop. It is nasty and disgusting. I don-t know how anyone kisses me.
Well here you go!!! My grandma smoked for years and years, now she has lung failure and heart failure! It is a slow death! It is called COPD (conjected heart failure)! She has to be on oxygen for the rest of her life, if she takes it off her oxygen states drop down to the 60-s which should be in the 90-s! When she gets up from bed or even talks she gets out of breath so severe that she can hardly breath! It is horrible cause it has no cure and gets worse! So we are watching a slow death happening to her! That is all from smoking! That makes me never to put a cig to my mouth ever!!!
just think of black lungs and blocked arteries having yukky gunky mouth smelling of smoke not being able to taste wonderful food properly and making yourself age quicker. not to mention the higher risk of heart disease and cancer. it does the trick for me i packed up new year good luck
If you quit smoking that long ago, then you should have the willpower to not want one.

I-ve smoked for 5 years now, and had to recently quit.

All I want is a cigarette. But you have to have self control.
Dont do it! good on you for quitting but u can live without it!
Well I gave them up 3 years ago and don-t crave them any more. All I have to do is smell my husband after he has just had a smoke and that puts me off straight away. Stinky! pooey. It-s foul.
DON-T DO IT----WILL POWER.

That one cigarette will turn in to 500.
smoking can cause lung cancer u could die and more if u have a boyfriend or a family then u will hurt them alot i say dont do it u already 1 year and 10 months u did all that 4 nothing then
Just try to remember the withdrawal days, those crappy first days that you thought you weren-t going to be able to make it and you did! After all that hard work you put into it, you really don-t want to put yourself back to square 1 just for one lousy cig. It really is not worth it.
I quit smoking 1 year and 10 months ago and all i want is a cig? -

Have you quit smoking? How? -

Have you quit smoking? How? -

I want to quit smoking but don’t have will power to just stop. If you quit how did you do it?
I smoked for 7 years, and haven-t had a smoke for 9 months now. But like somebody above said, everybody is different. I chose cold turkey, undoubtedly one of the more difficult ways of quitting, but seeing as how i didn-t have the budget for patches, gums, or medicines, cold turkey was the way to go for me. The key for me was to keep busy by taking a walk, or working in the garage so i didn-t even think about smoking, and every time i got a craving, i would chew a piece of gum, and tell myself i wasn-t going to give in and smoke. Then it was a matter of changing my routines, instead of reaching for my pack in the morning and after meals, i would suck on a breath mint instead, and remind myself that i was making a good healthy choice. It took about a week for the nicotine fits to go away, and it took about a month to change my routine so that i wasn-t thinking about cigs. If you don-t have a lot of willpower like you say, then i would invest in some nicotine gum, or patches, or talk to a doctor about chantix, the more support you have, the better you-re chances are of successfully quitting. Good luck, you have a long hard road ahead of you, but it will pay off in the end.
Chantix , after having smoked for 31 years taking this drug for one month cured me of the habit ...
my last day to have a cigarrette was Jan.3rd!!!!! yay!! i-ve have been trying to quit cold turkey for years...first i told myself and every one else that there was no smoking in my house..an i only did that because i knew it was cold out and i dont like going out in the cold.....then i just stopped buying them and bummed them off of people for a couple days..then i got tired of bummin them and slowly stopped...i chew a lot of gum and keep my hands busy so i try not to think about it
I cured myself and I bet you can cure yourself too from this bad habit with this natural product I found out:

http://www.HelpMeQuitSmoking.net

chew on straws and suck through them... give your mouth something other than smoking to do...

alot of the time smoking addiction has alot to do with oral fixations as well as physical dependance on the tobacco.

Also, talk to your doctor about chantix... it works great but can give you nightmares sometimes.
I smoked for six years. Then my fiance got an unrelated cancer.I felt obliged to quit - I did not want to make him sicker. My first attempt was the gum - Which was completely unsuccessful. In my second attempt, a few months later, I decided to go very very slowly using the patch. I must have worn the patch for 3 or 4 months, decreasing the dosage every month or so.

You can-t smoke at all with the patch on. You could overdose with nicotine. Knowing this kept me away from them.

I did have some slip ups. After I stopped the patch. I still have dreams that there-s a pack of cigs hidden in my glove box, just for those stressful emergencies.

That was almost 6 years ago and I don-t miss them!
i never started:)
Yes I quit after many years of smoking. I used nicotine patches to quit. It really wasn-t too hard to quit but the first ten days or so were killer but after that it wasn-t bad.
i just put out my cigarette inmy anus everytime i smoked as punishment
take chantix
or wellbutrin

the biggets thing is to make the decision
dont bring money wiht you
just tell ur friends u wanna stop and ask them to help u quit
maybe theyll see the light themselves and quit with you
Indeed, I have. First, I had to be -ready- to let go. When the time came about, and I was aware of it, I washed ALL my bedding, and showered before going to bed that night. I made sure that it was night, so when I awoke all would still smell nice. I also used Black Licorice -the anise- to help with the craving and oral fixation. The only part left is and was the mental obsession(s). What is important in this step is to watch the intake of foods, more specifically sugars, which include carbs.
I asked my Doc about the new Chantrix pill, and was told that it is NOT for me :( So I have had to go at it alone, and this is not my first attempt, but I do hope it is the last time I have to go through with this painful step. I say painful because it hurts to look at how much I hurt my Self, how many years, ways, the -costs- as it were.
The will was there for me to go ahead and proceed and I hope that by reading all the responses, you too can find the strength to forge ahead in life with a new vision of a healthier Self ! Best of Luck and Love to you in your efforts ;)
First off, I have this belief that I cannot have an addiction to anything - and I-m stubborn - so it works for me. But one day, I was working at a Summer camp and was having a bad allergic reaction to cut grass. Without realizing it, I started having asthma issues and when I went to see the Doctor, she said to me, you can either quit smoking or you can try to make it to the hospital in time to save your life when you can-t breathe.

Since that day in 2003, I can honestly say, I-ve had about 2 cigarettes and completely gave up the green stuff.

Will power is a somethingorother.

Good luck!
yes I have.
I just stopped dead cold.
it was easy.
but no one is the same...
I quit twice. The first time with no assistance at all for 7 months, then I started again. I quit the last time with use of the nicotine patch, then the gum. Then I moved to regular gum and here we are still not smoking after several years. Just don-t give up. I didn-t quit because of my health.... I quit because it stinks. Find a reason and keep trying.
Cold Turkey. Been almost a year now. I smoked for over 20 years.
i didnt but i know family that has and is trying,

one way: the patches
second way: use the patches and make sure you have will
power otherwise the 1st way will not get you
far
third way: hardest way: just tell yourself no and convince
yourself not to.
get rid of ALL the ciggaretts and then when you want one you will not be able toget it!

MY GREAT GRANDMOTHER WAS ADDICTED TO SMOKIN AND DID LIKE A PACK A DAY, SHE WENT TO THE DOCTOR AND THEY TOLD HER SHE WAS GONNA DIE IF SHE KEPT IT UP (CAUSE OF SO MUCH) SHE WALKED OUT OF THE OFFICE AND NEVER SMOKED A CIGGERETTE AGAIN.
i got pregnant... but i-ve also heard a good way is to substitute it with something else maybe mints, gum, some kinda candy? try to keep ur mouth occupied with something else as dirty as that sounds
I kept busy and worked-out.
i smoked weed 2 years ago, it was really hard for me to stop because i smoked every morning and when ever i didn-t smoke, i just didn-t feel good at all. until i was forced to, and it worked same with cigarettes. but i wasn-t to obsessed with those, they aren-t as obsessing as weed

i-m thinking it might just be that time....
look at the cigarette
- be bigger - stronger than it.
I have successfully quit smoking by going cold turkey.
My Aunt who was just diagnosed with emphysema got the laser, two weeks later back to smoking
My mother, tried the gum, two days later.

drink gasoline
cold turkey.
it takes alot of willpower, though =/
try using that nicotin ( or however it is spelt) gum..
i have herd it works..
Every time you want one shoot yourself in the foot. Lets see if you want to smoke then!
Cold Turkey!! no just joking. You should take one way every week. So if you smoke 15 a week just do 14. then keep on taking one away. that-s how my boyfriend did it. and it worked.
By taking just one away a week, your body wont get sick or anything. I hope i helped some.
Think about all the benefits of quitting and find something else to chew on/suck besides cigarettes. Get rid of all your cigarettes and don-t be around smokers or watch anyone smoking. Have someone quit with you or coach you to quitting.
I-m very proud of you for making the decision to quit. I heard cold turkey helps, and also here-s a website that may help you quit:

http://www.smokefree.gov/

Good luck!!
Don-t put anything in your mouth and light it.
I agree with the -cold turkey- method. I suggest you forget about the nicotine gum because someone I know tried that stuff and just got addicted to the gum and wanted more and more. Just try REALLY hard.
lite all your smokes on fire, uh wait nevermind.
I know someone is using the patch and it seems to be working really well for them. they said they still goes out for cigarette breaks and just stands there or takes a pen cap with them and pretends to smoke that. Hope that helps!
there is the new medication called Chantix...it works for alot of my customers..im a pharmacy tech
(Sarcastically) Wow there are some really funny people answering this question.

It also really annoys me when people who have never smoked answer stop smoking questions, ok enough ranting back to your question.

Smoking is more of a psychological addiction than a physical one. If you really want to quit you must discover the reasons why you smoke and then eliminate or change these thought processes. As soon as I dealt with my psychological reasons for smoking I quit, first time and more importantly for good.

Once you deal with the psychological side of smoking it makes the quitting process easy, no matter your level of addiction.

Quitting smoking does not require any patches, gums, herbs or anything like that. These methods are expensive, time consuming and simply do not work. All that is required is a bit of motivation, self belief and determination.

don-t buy any..you cant smoke what you don-t buy...sorry im not a smoker and never have been...so i cant really say i know how you feel...to me the answer is as simple as...just don-t smoke.
Think to yourself... what am I doing to my body?

When you smoke you are putting about a half cup of tar in your lungs every year. Making it harder for your body to function properly. The best way is to throw away that pack in your pocket right now. Always have something to chew on or suck on... gum or mints or something. PEZ were originally created to help people stop smoking so you might want to try those. I know they are very fun to eat. If you feel the urge to have a smoke tell yourself NO. It-s for your own good and for your spouses and children-s health. You can also try nicorette or those patch things.

I-ve never smoked. But from research I-ve done this is what I-ve come up with.

Maddy

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11) May God be with you!
go to rehab you dut
Smoke one ciggerate less each day so say if u smoke 7 a day then the nex day try smoking only 6 ciggerates and u can continue that for 2-5 days then keep on going less by one and evenrualy u will get down to 1 ciggerate and then u can start using those nicatine gums.(i hear they help) Also try rewarding ur self with something good or something that u like. Hope i helped and good luck:)
chew gum
For me it-s cold turkey. AND to STAY QUIT, I make sure I have things to do to fill the time I used to spend smoking.
Some people are addicted to nicotine and need the patch or gum or whatever. Some people, like me, are addicted to the action of smoking. The going outside to smoke with friends, or smoking while driving... that kind of thing.
I find that I have to fill my time, all of it. If I get too bored I-ll want to smoke. And you don-t have to eat junk if you choose to fill your cravings with food, you can chew on a carrot or have some celery.
I can stop anytime easily, but it-s only when I-m bored I find myself thinking about going to buy a pack.
So, I get online and play chess or read a magazine or go for a walk. And, I don-t go outside with the other smokers even though they say they miss me. You gotta fill your brain with something else.
Keep your self busy, so you don-t think about it.

NEED HELP! Im going to attempt to quit smoking? -

I-ve been smoking for almost four years and only smoke 6 or 7 cigarettes a day, but on previous attempts to quit I didn-t even last 3 days. I-m already clinicaly deppresed and frankly even the idea of quitting scares the **** out of me but my mom found out I was smoking (I-m only 14) and now I have to quit. Anyone have any good tips? Thx.
Perhaps you should investigate the nicorette activestop program that you can find in a web search for -nicorette activestop-.
YAY quit smoking. :) Im proud of u lol
you started when you were 10?

hmmm
Try to get more information regarding some ways to stop smoking at my profile.
switch the way you do things...if you always talk on the phone with a cigarette, talk inside where you can-t smoke...if you usually have a cig after class, have a lollipop or gum. you-re addiction isn-t really very physical, it is psycological...so it is breaking a habit. everytime you want to smoke say -I don-t smoke- you have to repattern your brain. and take it day by day. think of how much money you will save youreself (never mind the health factor) If you spent 5 bucks every 2 days, in one year that would be over 180 bucks!!! reward yourself for going a week without, then two, etc- something small and just be proud of yourself for doing something difficult. you may find you feel better once those nicotine and drug combos in the cigs are out of your system for good as well. good luck.
You have made the right decision, good for you!!

I smoked for 7 years, from 14 to 21. I tried many times to give up, with many different methods: cold turkey, habit replacement, nicotine patches, gum and lozenges... but all failed.

I finally quit using the Allan Carr method. Allan Carr is a guy who wrote a book -Easy Way to Stop Smoking-, and then later developed a program based on the book.

I quit by going to the library and borrowing the book... I read the book that day and haven-t smoked since (it-s been 4 years now). I know it sounds too good to be true, but it works! The book/program has a 95% success rate, as opposed to 40% success from nicotine replacement therapy (NRT).

Now, I am a pharmacy student and part of my job is to sell NRT, but I am always reluctant because I know that you can borrow the book for FREE, rather than pay for NRT (or cigarettes for that matter). As I say to my patients, give it a go. It won-t cost you anything, and if it doesn-t work, you haven-t lost out! All the best.
I used a great technique called EFT. I stopped without having any cravings. It-s a very easy to do, free and efficient solution.
You can find out more information and even get a free (donate if you want) consultation here:
http://www.info-santanyi.com/eftservice/…

Just stop right now and take up some physical exercise.
After a while, both of these activities will help lift the depression too. Have a bit of pride and confidence in yourself.
first you have to make the decision.
you either smoke, or you dont.
there is no two ways about it.

when you want to stop - which is the only right answer to -should i or should i not- - just STOP.

then drink a glass of water EVERY time you feel like lighting up. remind yourself you are kind to your body, to your money and to your mother by not smoking.

last but not least - find some non smoking friends.

you should be fine.
just do it!
watch the video below and don-t pick one up again. It-s as simple as that.

What is the best and most stress free way to quit smoking? -

I currently smoke about 2 packs of cigerettes a day. I-m 30 and have neen smoking heavy for about 5 years and overall for about 12 years.. I want to stop smoking, but im going thru a period of anxiety and new jobs and other stresses, and would like know a proven way or suppliment to help me with letting the cig-s go

Thanks
i dont know the answer as we are all so different but after a few attempts this time i have given up because i started to workout and run and it was impossible to do both. I enjoy running to much to smoke again. Good luck
Smoking is more of a psychological addiction than a physical one. If you really want to quit you must discover the reasons why you smoke and then eliminate or change these thought processes.

It sounds like there are many areas of your life that set of a want in you to smoke (stress, anxiety, change etc). When you come across these life factors you need to re wire your thoughts to believe that by having a smoke it will not help you in your situation. This is not as hard as you may think because the reality is; by having a smoke it will not actually help you. It will in fact make your situation worse. We can teach you how to change your though processes so you truly believe this.

Once you deal with the psychological side of smoking it makes the quitting process easy, no matter your level of addiction.

Quitting smoking does not require any patches, gums, supplements or anything like that. These methods are expensive, time consuming and simply do not work. All that is required is a bit of motivation, self belief and determination.

Good Luck and Good Quitting
do you want the best or the most stress free?

the best, in my opinion, is keeping yourself busy. for me to smoke 2 packs a day, i need about 2-3 hours of -smoking time-. if you area too busy to find 2-3 hours, then you dont have a chance to smoke. however, being busy for every hour you are awake tends to build stress. but then there is always a solution for that. go out for a run. it will build your lungs back up, and takes away the stress.

second best, go to hookah. most (if not all) hookah tobacco has .05% nicotine, and has been washed free of tar. compare that to the 16mg of tar and 1.1 mg of nicotine you get from one filtered Marlboro, and its basically nothing. you get a buzz (mostly from the lack of oxygen to your head) and you feel relaxed, but there is almost nothing bad in hookah. its basically all sugar. still, breathing in smoke is bad for you, but its nowhere near as bad as the tar and nicotine.

stop smoking, but dont stop the nicotine. wear patches, chew gum, pack dip. have different ways of getting the nicotine you need without lighting up a cigarette.
Start working out. You must have very strong will power.

i have been smoking for about 1 year and really feel like its time to quit. i smoke no particular brand and typically smoke 5 -light- cigs a day.
i saw a guy on the bus the other day that had had a tracheotomy. that-s enough to stop anyone smoking
you could try
http://dailystrength.org/support/Addicti…
or
http://www.seriousquitters.co.uk/index.h…

It seems to me you shouldn-t have too much trouble managing without patches etc, as your habit is light on nicotine and the main problem is dealing with the habitual behaviour. You could try avoiding the situations you enjoy a cigarette with (eg a pint), until the habit-s broken. If you smoke indoors, ban yourself (install a battery smoke alarm above your favourite smoking seat). Winter-s coming, and that should be sufficient incentive to delay going outside for a smoke until the itch has passed.

Finally, put the money you-re saving each day into a jar, and spend it on yourself at the end of the month.
This is exactly what you-re looking for:
http://www.uhelpyourself.com/quitsmoke

It-ll help you quit smoking quickly and without expensive pills, gum or patches. It really works. I highly recommend it.

Tom
just stop smoking it is hard but you should not have too much trouble as your not a heavy or long term smoker
I quit 30 years ago, just by stopping. I was smoking 30- 40 fags a day, and ended up in hospital with chest pain, the doctor told me to quit and I did, there and then with no patches, gum, or any help and it was easy.
You also can do it on your own if you really want to.
Cut from 40 a day to zero by cold turkey, no patches or anything then. Just thought of the money I was wasting, put it in a jar and had a treat each day.
Good luck, you know it makes sense.
the answer is really simple and might seem rediculous but just hear me out. if you want to stop smoking without the gums and patches just don-t do it. if you are really ready to quit you would you would know that enough is enough and today is the day to end the madness.think about the positive you would be doing for yourself if you stop and let that be motivation for you, especially when you get a craving. it-s all in your head.
i smoked for 21 years and gave up two and a half years ago by reading the book -How to stop smoking- by Allen Carr, i picked it up at a second hand book stall at the market for 20p and started reading it when i got home, i gave up smoking that same day and havent touched one since! I then gave the book to my brother and his wife who both gave up smoking too and he then passed the book on, i dont know where the book is now but i like to think its still moving around Britain helping people to give up :D

ive just looked on Amazon and i dont think he does the -How to stop smoking- any more, its now called -Allen Carr-s Easy Way To Stop Smoking-, if its the same book then it might work for you too.
In the Search for questions slot type in -quit smoking- and you will get at least 6,619 results.
well it should be easy for you if you are only a 5 a day, unless you smoke them 5 a day at times of stress or at times in the day when you feel you are losing the plot...i smoke about 20 or so a day and for me to give up without any help would be like hell on earth for others lol... cause you see i hate daft and annoying people but can keep them emotions under control with my ashy friends....it is a good time for you to stop now because for every 1 year you smoke it takes the body 3 years to heal its self after you quit even though you will see a differance 2 days after you stop ie smell taste etc etc.. so go for it and good luck.
Simply stop buying cigarettes. The next thing you know, you cant smoke because you dont have any cigs. Easy. When your work buddies go for a fag, simply dont go. Most people are understanding when it comes to giving up and will be supportive, and maybe a bit jealous of you
Try the inhaler pens,,they work for me,,cut down by 50% in the first day
I used to eat lolly pops and started dating a guy who didn-t know I smoked and hated smokers so I-d hide it and then realized it wasn-t worth it. I also figured out when I did it and altered my habits. I actually bought a stick shift car just so I wouldn-t smoke in the car. Do it now - it sounds like the perfect time for you. Good luck!

I quit smoking because I-m trying to get healthy, however; I LOVE TO SMOKE !!! Is there anything out there I can smoke that really doesn-t cause harm like cigarettes. I smoke pot and that helps, but I would like something to smoke something on a more regular basis that is not so expensive.

I am thinking American Spirit or Clove cigarettes or something!!!!

Please help, I miss smoking.
Actually, there exists a product for people in your situation. They-re called -electronic cigarettes.- They look like they-re lit and smoke like the real thing by vaporizing the surrounding air so you breathe in and puff out visible -smoke- (water vapor). This way, you can also get the feeling of taking it into your lungs and breathing it back out.

They contain no nicotine, tar, or any other additives that a conventional cigarette does.

If you live in China or Britain, you can check out a brand here:
http://www.reuters.com/article/lifestyle…

If you live in the United States, this is what you-ll look for:
http://www.smokingeverywhere.com/elec_ci…

http://www.smokelessdelite.com/

And here-s a forum for people who enjoy using these products:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/

And that forum links you to:
http://www.disposablecig.com,
and they have a lot of different filter flavors, from tobacco to mint to vanilla to coffee...and that coffee filter makes me want to buy these so I can quit smoking, too!! This link also has the cheapest electronic cigarettes available, but apparently this brand of e-cigs contains nicotine. This isn-t going to pollute your lungs or give off 2nd hand smoke, though.

Anyway, I hope this helps you, and keep up the good work!

How can you quit smoking? -

I really wan-t my dad to quit smoking, but it is really hard for him, so besides support, how else can he stop?
I quit smoking by taking Chantix. It is available by prescription only. I had smoked for 35 years and had tried everything to help me quit. Chantix is absolutely the greatest thing on the market. But you have to want to quit or nothing will help you.
I took Chantix for 4 months. Most articles on it tell you to use it for 3 months but I knew I needed it an extra month. And I am proud I continued to take it. I very rarely ever think about a cigarette and when I think about it the thought goes away as quickly as it came. When you start taking it, you continue to smoke and set a quit date. If you do not quit by the quit date, set another date. You eventually figure out that you really are not getting anything out of the cigarette because Chantix blocks the nicotene from getting to your brain. I hope your Dad will at least try it. But I will tell you that the more you stay on him to quit the longer he will smoke.
if u do not want to see a movie, do not pass by the theater.
smoking? do not buy cigs.

it is an addiction, get smokers anonimous info for him. find out where the meetings in the area are held. he has to want to quit, no one can do it for him.
By not buying packs of cigarettes if that-s what you mean. Cold turkey really is the best method so support is all you can offer. Any other method causes a smoker to -miss- cigarettes.
figure out why he smokes to begin with, why he says it makes him -feel- good, and try your best to fill that gap while telling him he needs to stop
The question is, does he want to quit smoking? If he is not really interested in quitting there is basically nothing you can do. Hopefully he really wants to quit.

Perhaps a search for -quit smoking- + -natural ways- might be of interest.
