I am trying to quit smoking, and I am going to use the patch. The problem is I dont know which dosage to get? -

based on the cigarettes I smoke, I only get about 5mg per day from my cigarettes.
Make sure you get a pharmicist to tell you which one. I got ones that were too strong and they made me really sick, vomiting. So its better to go with a patch that gives a little bit less nicotine than too much.
You can read some nicotine patches guide via next link
http://www.asmoking.com/49-nicotine-patches.html

Usually if you heavy smoker (20+ cigarettes per day) you need to use 4mg patches, if you light smoker (up to 15-20 cigarettes per day) - 2mg patches.

Nip home and have a quickie with the wife, girlfriend or mistress.
have S@# or j@#$ off more.
Unforunately there-s nothing you can do about an erection in the middle of the day but let it go away on its own except maybe masturbating or having sex more frequently at other times of the day.
take a yoga class, maybe tight muscles in the abdomen region is putting more pressure and causing blood build up in your lower regions. if they bother you because the appear suddenly in uncalled for situations like at work, maybe talk it over with your doctor, to make sure its not related to high blood pressure problems. (stress could be causing your blood pressure to rise as well as sending up Jr.)
I am not sure there is a cause and effect relationship between your erections and your exercising and your quitting smoking. However, you may try doing something constructive to keep your mind off the erections.

Chow!!
Bang someone. Isn- t this obvious?
-fwap fwap fwap-
Enjoy
Wear a skirt and keep working on what you are intended to do
stay away from smoking
keep exercising
eat healthy
get lots of sleep every night
enjoy lots of sunshine and fresh air

and enjoy every one of those erections even if you cannot be alone enough to pleasure them all.

Oh and never worry if another person notices one or two or twenty of them. They are as normal as anything and although I don-t recommend flaunting them in public too often, don-t work hard at trying to hide them because that just draws attention to you.

How can i quit smoking? -

Well, im only 16 and have only been smoking for 2 years.. I need help lol
Any tips?? I dont have alot of money as im just finishing school
Only 16?? and you are smoking!!! Just kidding. i-m not judging you. I have been quitting for months now. hahaha! well i have been a smoker for years and i just recently found these awesome Smokeless cigarettes that give me my nicotine but i don;t get the bad breath, the tar and the other stuff in the smoke. These things are awesome. I bought them about two weeks ago and i haven-t had a real cigarette since. check them out. they are def worth it and they are cheaper than cigarettes.
get nicotinel chewinggums. you know when you smoke your body gets used to the nicotine which stores in your skin and hair and when you get a cig you get nicotine but also smoke which is bad for your lungs. so just get nicotinel chewinggum so you get the nicotine your body needs and no lung cancer and that
try not to get a lot of stress and do more outside activities. play football, do sports and keep yourself busy
gud luck =]
Cinnamon!!

Soak toothpicks in Cinnamon oil and chew on those whenever you want a cigarette or chew on the Cinnamon stick itself! The stick is about as big as a cigarette so it makes it feel like your smoking or something!!

It works!

Good luck!!
Figure out what it is that triggers your need to smoke, and try to prevent those situations. Cold turkey is what worked for me.
replace smoking with chewing gum.
lots and lots of gum...

Are there pills that help you quit smoking marijuana? -

NyQuil.
Marijuana is a mental addiction. To quit, all you have to do is decide that you want to do it. It will become easier to avoid with time, although there may be flare ups in a desire for the substance. It would be far more harmful to replace marijuana with pills because then you are addicted to pills, but not marijuana. The best way to quit is the natural way. Just decide to stop and never turn back! Also, many people do replace marijuana with cigarettes, but beware of this method also because nicotine is highly addictive. 3 to 4 cigarettes/day are not so bad, but when you start smoking a pack/day, there is another addiction that you have to beat if you don-t want to become a smoker. However, if you don-t really mind smoking cigarettes instead, then it is a perfect solution! Good luck. (:
oxycontin
hm i think you don t need pills
hormon levels will change blood pressure will change.
but ask a doc.
if you are afraid of a heart stroke because of the stress - ask a doc.
ride your bicycle.
and clean out.
there are some products to get this -poison- out of your body faster.
usually it will take 4 to 6 weeks until your body is clean again.
I don-t think so.
None as yet approved by the FDA but yes scientist are working on it. Rumor has that certain Physicians will -treat- Marijuana sufferers with Ritalin and similar -speeds- and testosterone in high dosages - - - uglier rumors suggest pills that are like -bad acid- and as always there is that perennial favorite, not a pill, but electric shock therapy. Actually the USA is more inclined to put skinny white boys in prison to -cure- them of the habit. Evangelical Christians hate Marijuana because it causes people to think creatively. Peace.

I quit smoking in February. I now am having difficulty taking deep breaths? -

I exercise 5 days a week. I do not drink alcohol. I have gained 12 pounds since I quit. I have anxiety for sure-I get very stressed out about little things. Later in the day-my breathing is more difficult. Any suggestions??
don-t mess around.see a pulmonologist. even though you quit-congrats- you still may have some problems. good luck
-Might be- you have excercise induced COPD

I do, gotta take meds and oxygen

See a lung DR, a pulmanologist

I quit 2 years ago
You said this problem happens later in the day, the question is do you work in a place where you are exposed to recycled air for long periods of time? Or are around chemical smells? As long as you don-t experience breathing problems when your working out your problem probably isn-t internal, that it happens later in the day suggests to me your are being exposed to something that is aggravating your lungs.

I find if I-m in the place where I work for more than a few hours my eyes start to tear up and I have to apply eye drops every few hours. I-ve worked in other places where the air recycling system is so crappy by the end of each shift there would be a red dust of carpet particles over everything, asthmatics would have an attack within minutes of walking in.

Try keeping a journal tracking your breathing attacks and anything that might trigger them. Do they only happen on certain days or all days? If so then what do you do on some days that you don-t on others. If the problem continues and you still don-t know what-s up then you should see a Doc, you might have asthma (not uncommon in smokers, don-t forget it takes five years {I think} for most of the damages to heal) or even a spring allergy or something like that.

After quitting smoking, how can you stop the snacking? -

After Ive quit smoking, Ive found myself snacking a whole lot more. Any suggestions out there on what to do to curb the snacking?
Ive heard that when people stop smoking they pick up the habit of eating more. I wonder why that is? Maybe if you play a trick on the brain by doing something to keep your mouth moving that would help. Try chewing bubble gum or you can get a big bag of sunflower seeds and munch on them when you start feeling hungry or feeling the need to snack.
congrats.
thats a good thing
now about the snacking
find something you enjoy doing
and when you want to snack
then do that hobby
or anything that disctacts you

Quit Smoking? -

I have tried to quit smoking before and have failed. Im trying again now but im finding it heaps hard. My cravings feel more intense then the last time i tried to give up. I cant stop thinking about having a smoke either. The hardest part for me is not having a smke after eating and while im on the phone. I havnt had a smoke for nearly 2 full days and its driving me nuts. My fiance also smokes and when i told him that i was giving up he said he is not going to which is going to make it hard on me. I have been smoking for 9 years straight now. The bad thing is that i enjoy smoking and i think thats why my attempts to quit always fail. I have also been very stressed out lately (not because of me not smoking) and that is also making it very difficult to stop. I need some advice. I no cold turkey is best but it dusnt seem to be working for me and the patches and gum didnt work the last time. Any advice will be muchly appreciated. Thanks guys!
I agree with all of the above suggestions. Along with taking their advice you might like to look at what is driving the addiction to cigarettes.

The answer is the same for any form of addiction, whether cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, work, chocolate, computer games .....

Uncomfortable or painful emotions are the reason people take their form of tranquilizer. -Comfort- food or -emotional- eating is a good example of this. Or so is being stressed out and needing a smoke to calm down.

Fortunatley there is a way of easily identifying and neutralising or transforming these uncomfortable or painful emotions which is actually healthy.

It-s called EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) - the world-s fastest growing self-healing tool.

Originally discovered as a cure for phobia, fear, panic and anxiety, it has also proved effective in treating many different kinds of addictions and addictive behaviour. Further clinical application it is now believed to be effective in treating all stress-related illness.

What does it offer people trying to quit?

EFT-s results for Addiction, and Substance Abuse problems are often extraordinary. The benefits are two fold: First, EFT brings down the immediate craving within minutes so that one can easily walk away from food, cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, etc. In a few cases this simple procedure also collapses the overall addiction.

Second, EFT-s long term successes are due to its ability to address the true cause of most addictions ... namely ... the need to -tranquilize- the anxiety caused by one-s underlying anger, fear, guilt, trauma, etc. Until these issues are dissipated, the addictive behavior will remain. That is why people who successfully give up one form of addiction simply switch to another (from alcohol to coffee/cigarettes, for example). EFT is ideally designed to collapse these underlying emotional issues (that is what it does best) and, properly applied, the need to tranquilize disappears. It should be evident that addictions, compulsions, eating disorders and weight issues have similar emotional causes.

To see an introductory video on EFT, and what it can be used for, go to www.emofree.com.au and click on the watch the video in the top right hand side of the page.

Or go to www.emofree.com to search for articles on treating addictions.

You can download the free EFT manual from www.emofree.com.au
You can try using Champix. It is a pill that will help you stop smoking. It works by stopping your nicotine craving as well as reducing the withdrawal symptoms.
Hey, check out this article, it helped me quit.

This is going to sound crazy but I read a book. I smoked for 11 years and had tried to quit using the patch, the inhaler, the gun, antianxiety pills. I read the book The Easy Way to quit smoking and quit cold turkey. Read the reviews on Amazon give it a chance. I was skeptical but I know five people personally who have quit using this book including my husband. Good Luck and don-t get discouraged it is possible!
I also just quit 3 days ago, but i am using the patch. It seems to be working. I noticed also that when I do things that i always used to smoke doing, its harder. like talking on the phone and after eating. I have avoided long conversations on the phone and have been eating -little meals- because it was always after a big one that i smoked. It will be harder for you because you have another smoker in the house. I have asked others to not smoke in my house and I am avoiding being around smokers for a while, like avoiding the bar and alcohol. whenever you have an urge, immediatley do something else. fold clothes, do the dishes and drink a glass of water. it seems to help. just remind your self why you are doing it and how much healthier you will be. Good luck!!
Read -Easyway- by Allen Carr. It-s a lot cheaper than gums, patches, medications, and A LOT more effective.
Reduce gradually untill 1/4 cigarrete a day. Oat meal, reishii tea, soup of burdock root can detoxify nicotine.

Wash clothes, linens, clean car and the whole house before a long weekend, 3-4 days, with sleeping pills, to quit. Take showers and excercise between sleeping time
maybe u should pray to God to help u stop... please no one put me as abuse but thats what my bro did and it worked but u have to pray a long time...

GOOD LUCK DUDE ull feel gr8 once u kick the habit
tell everyone you know so if they see you slipping they will ***** at you. other than that perseverance and determination. there are some prescription drugs out there if you-re not opposed to it.
my hubby got a timer that keeps track of how long he-s been without (down to the seconds). it helps to see how long you-ve gone.
you could make a list of why you want to stop and whenever you start to get really tempted take a look at it.
keep a jar and all the money that you would have spent on cigarettes would go in it. after a month or a couple weeks use it to do something for yourself, some sort of reward.
hope these help-GOOD LUCK!
I was a heavy smoker for 20 years, chain smoker, no filter cigarettes. One day suddenly my hands and feet became icy like there was no bloody going in. I thought i was going to pass out. I praied God to help me GO GO GO COLD TURKEY i stopped felt depressed at times everytime i wanted a cigarette i would go out take a walk or jog. When i wants a smoke i had a glass of water, i broke that psychological attachment to the cigarette. I changed things , i would clean the house, i would do walk the dog. Finally i did i started walking, now i walk ,iam in great shape i save lots of money too.
I have heard from a reliable source that Zyban is very effective. It causes an unpleasant taste in the mouth when you have a cigarette, in turn you naturally regard smoking as a disgusting habit. I also smoke and may start using it myself.

Allen Carr-s book. You can get it on Amazon. I was a -commited- smoker who didn-t really want to quit but really had to. That book changed my life! If I can offer one bit of advice, when you are ready read it cover to cover as quickly as you can...

After 22 years as a 20+ a day smoker.... I-m almost at two years without a single cigarette...... it really works!
Start regular running, cycling or some other form or aerobic activity. You will feel heaps better (crappy at first as all the craps works out of your lungs) after a while and see what you have been doing to your body. It worked for me.
man,

If someone can help me out i would be very grateful to him.I have been trying for more than 20 years but i fail.

If you have quit smoking, and would like to have the occasional joint when in holidays? Would that make you? -

want to smoke again in a day to day basis?
Yes if you use tobacco so get yourself a pipe and smoke it straight! Or make cakes!
I-ve often wondered this myself. I like to smoke a few joints of an evening, on occasion I might add but If i give up smoking normal smokes through the day do I still consider myself as having quit smoking or does that make me a liar, Hypocrite or what.

Anyway, apologies this doesn-t answer your question but just thought i-d share my thoughts with you.
Yeah,that-s exactly what happened to me.Stopped smoking for five years, then went camping with a mate who smokes pot.I smoked half a joint, and that was it.I bought 10 cigs the next day,and now I smoke worse than ever.Bad move.Don-t do it.
You must want to do it anyway if you want to do it for the holidays. If you-re going to leave it alone, do it completely. It-s a trap to do it occasionally.
I quit smoking cigarettes twenty years before I quit smoking weed. I had no problem stopping either of them once I had made the decision.
YEAH DEFINITELY, not even on holidays also,
Only if your weak minded

I wanted to do exactly that, booze hot weather, tanning lotion, - BBQ-s, hell i wouldn-t want to come home
highly possible
If you have quit smoking, and would like to have the occasional joint when in holidays? Would that make you? -

I just quit smoking and was wonderinig if I should start running right away because it helps with the craves.? -

I just quit smoking and was wonderinig if I should start running right away because it helps with the craves.? -

Yes.
Short answer...YES!

Anything that takes your mind off the cravings is good - and if it involves exercise...all the better!

Running will also help to boost your lung volume, and may encourage your body to cough up and eliminate some of the residual tar in your lungs.

If you need a mental image to help you stop smoking, think of this...

I work in cancer treatment. Up to 90% of the cancers we treat are smoking related. One man I was treating was coming in every day for radiotherapy and chemotherapy for throat cancer. He had a trachyotomy in (hole in his thoat to enable him to breathe - as his throat was closed over from the tumour and swelling).

One day he came in for his radiotherapy, and soon after his treatment I headed off for lunch. I passed him outside, where he was smoking a cigarette through the hole in his throat!!! YUCK!!

Another one that happened at the hospital I worked at...a man in a similar situation, being treated for lung cancer (smoking related) stepped outside for what he said would be -his last cigarette-. He lit up, took one puff, and the corotid artery (artery that you feel the pulse in your neck from) burst. He was dead before he hit the ground. Well...it WAS his last cigarette after all...

Best thing to help you keep off those cancer sticks...think of your family and the impact that loosing you would have on them. Do you really want to put them through that?

Good luck - and congratulations on making the decision to stop.
I just quit smoking and was wonderinig if I should start running right away because it helps with the craves.? -

How do I quit smoking? -

How do I quit smoking? -

We have read the Alan Carr book and still no success. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Will power is the best and most effective way of quiting smoking.
It takes only 1 step...YOU!!!!!
You have to want to quit. I smoked 2 packs a day for over 35 years..then one day walking thru the park ..I said..-good day to quit smoking-...Remember..YOU!!!! have to want to quit.
I was a 2 pack a day smoker for 30 years when I responded to a mail solicitation from a NY Psychology group that said it treated smoking like any other addiction. Here is what they did:
1. Write down the 5 most enjoyable cigarettes of the day. Is it with a cup of coffee or a cocktail? Whatever it is track it for a week. When you quit, give up those things that are most enjoyable with a smoke. This means no cocktails or coffee or whatever until you are convinced you are no longer hooked on nicotine.
2. Get a Dr. to prescribe an anti-depressant. Why, because smoking has an effect on your brain and when the nicotine stops, you get depressed. The depression caused by nicotine cessation is one of the reasons so many of us fail to quit smoking. As well, an anti-depressant will help you control weight so that you don-t balloon. I took a very small doss of Prosac for about 4 months.
3. Pick a date when you are going to quit. On the day before you will quit -hot-, meaning you will smoke as many cigarettes as you can.The next day, your quit day, you will feel awful and the thought of another smoke will be a turn-off.
4. Get more exercise. I joined the local Y and started an exercise regiment as exercise helps you rid yourself of the -demons- that drive us to smoke.
The first few day days are the worst, it felt like I was having an out of body experience so that my voice seemed to be coming from another part of the room. The anti-depressant take a few days to kick in and getting use to the drug was not easy. At first I felt like I was flat lined into a catatonic state but I am particularly drug sensitive and that may not be a typical drug reaction. Thereafter, I was fine and my urge to smoke was gone in a month.
I had quit smoking before without success. Following the above regimen helped me stay smoke free and after 11 years of being smoke free I enjoy excellent health and have lots more money, what could be better?
Go on some sites, or the best is to see a nurse, or a doctor. As well you can go to a pharmacy which they have those patch to help quiting. Good luck.
well i ur from aus...just call da quit help line...u get a free booklet nd u can call em up 4 free..nd tey will help u
pray to God for help and believe in yourself that u can.
remember: you CAN if you THINK U CAN
Wish I could answer this question! Wish I-d never seen a cigarette! Some of these people that try to truly be @$$ holes are Not impressing nobody with the exception of maybe themselves. Right? Anyway Good Luck and by chance if you get some good advice email me : hmbaib@yahoo.com
PLEASE!
Hi,
I really empathise with you, I quit my 20 a day habit in a pain-free way this time last year!
No stress, no cravings, no weight gain, no pills, patches or gums.
The program I followed was recommended by a friend and now boasts a 90% success rate and is 100% fully guaranteed - can-t say fairer than that

All the best..
pray and ask God to help you to quit. and take the desire for you because he is the only one that can help you on tomorrow turn down you plate and fast and pray and have a determination to quit

Im 13 and have been smoking for about a year, i just quit and i am now straightedge, what do you think? -

im 13 and just quit smoking and have now gone straightedge, i just want some peoples opinions on my transformation :) btw for people who dont know, straightedge is where you dont smoke, drink or do drugs or have casual sex.
yeah...thats good...im honored to meet a person like u....not evreyone can do what you did...you realized you were in a problem and you fought against it
Smoking is bad for you, what could possibly be wrong about giving it up? Congratulations. And drinking causes even more brain damage in teenagers than it does in adults -- I-m not going to argue against the occasional beer but any kid who drinks heavily is going to pay the price by being dumber for the rest of his life and perhaps by ending up an alcoholic. Sex, too, carries a risk with it, of pregnancy or venereal disease.

I wouldn-t be too uptight about these things, when I see a college freshman saying he never does any of them I tell him to get a life, but I think that postponing them for a few years and then when you-re older engaging in them moderately and with care is an excellent idea.

Good for you. I started smoking at 13 and now I-m 26 and can-t hardly jog (and no I-m not super obese.) Anyways straightedge can be good but it also could be a gang. I saw a documentary about it on TLC or something. Some straightedge kill people, and some just rock out and stay clean. Anyways don-t kill anyone because then you-ll go to jail (a fate worse than smoking.)
hey sweetie,
you did the right thing quiting! and don-t listen to those people who are judging you. their have been alot of underage smokers who die a very early age and its good to hear that you have your life under control.
keep it up! it can be hard at first trying to give up but if you keep chewing chewy it can help!
good luck! =)

actually straightedge is a gang....they-re actually really violent but you are right when you say they dont drink or do drugs or anything. i think you have mislabeled yourself. anyways, it was a really good decision on your part!!! good job :)
It-s quite a drastic change but congrats on quitting. The majority of my friends who have gone edge didn-t last very long. Not saying this will be the case with you but at 13 things like smoking etc shouldn-t even be a problem yet
Congrats on making the right choice. It will be hard, but you will be glad you quit. I-ve never smoked but I know people who do and it is very easy to relapse, but don-t!
What do I think? I think it was a stupid idea to break the law to smoke in the first place. At least wait till you-re 18, jeez.
Well....I-d say that you-re what a 13 year old is supposed to be like! Young and Innocent.

Don-t rush life....you have the right idea.
Great job you realize smoking was silly at a young age. Some people are still too stupid to realize even at a senior age
what the ****, who would smoke let alone when your 13
great job for quitting but seriously...ew
good your too young to start all that anyway. and some of those things you shouldn-t do at all.
Good for you.
talk to me when you have done it for 6 months im not holding my breath how many 13yr olds have casual sex??
good job. keep it up

I quit smoking 8 months ago and i gained 50 lbs. how do i get rid of that? -

start smoking
The best way to loose weight is to do naturally. The body will accept it better. Take half the intake, eat half what u normally eat. 3 light meals a day. No sugar stuff. Soft drinks are no good. Plain water is the best. No sweet drinks and no snack. Do not eat between meals. Have regular time meals. Do not eat before bed. No supper. Breakfast is a must. Take a light lunch. A lighter dinner. Less red meat, if possible take fish. The best way to eat fish is to steam it. More vegetables and take 2 kinds of fruits per day. If u decide to stop meat a better replacement would to take beancurd. You can caculate your body mass index (BMI) with a formula.

BMI = weight (in kilograms) divide by
(Height (m) x Height (m))

remember I kilograms = 2.2046 pounds
1 meters (m) = 0.305 feet
chart forRisk of Heart Disease and Diabetes

27.5 and above High Risk
23.0 – 27.4Moderate Risk
18.5 – 22.9 Low Risk (healthy range)

Less than 18.5 Risk of nutritional deficiency diseases and osteoporosis

Honestly, cold turkey is still the best way to go if you want to keep it natural. You all ready know how hard it is but you also know that you can do it. I can relate.....I am on day 8 of my -cold turkey- process and counting. A few tips that seem to help me are flavored toothpicks, brushing my teeth often and just keeping my mind busy as well. I am also abstaining from any alcohol right now...the cravings are less for now. I wish you all the luck in the world!!

I have heard a lot of good things about Chantex...It-s supposed to work wonders but does not fall into the -natural- catagory. It is a little pricey but can be given in a sample form if you ask your doctor.
You can find stacks of relevant information in a search for -quit smoking- + -natural ways-.

I quit smoking, now I have nothing to look forward to. What do you non-smokers do all day? -

I quite smoking 3 weeks ago and I-ve realized the hardest part of not smoking is the ritual I have that revolves around my smoking.
Times WHen I SMoke:
WHen I wake up
After I eat
On the way to work
Smoke Breaks at work
on the way home for lunch
on the way back to work after lunch
when I-m bored at work
when i-m bored at home
When I talk on the phone
When I cut the grass
after i get back from running
whenever i-m irritated by life/family/wife/kids

My question is...the one thing that I always looked forward to was smoking...it was also the one thing that calmed me down when I was irritated, or added a spark when bored....

What do i do now? ANy Ideas?
YOU HAVE A LOT TO LOOK FORWARD TO. you just quit smoking, good for you. you have added on extra years to your life just because of that. they-re are tons of things to do. take up a new Hobie, take a day off work to just relax, spend some quality time with family and/or friends.

best of luck!
Oh honey!!! You can look forward to living longer, you`ll save money, health and life insurance is cheaper, you no longer smell like a dirty ashtray, and you can BREATHE!!!!!Its been over a year since I quit and I rejoice and thank God daily that Im free from that addiction.I understand what you are saying,ok? It takes time to adjust.I used to suck on cinnamon candy when I first quit.(Im talkin the hot kind!)It helps.Do crossword puzzles, read, draw, paint, etc.Keeping your hands busy helps.Good Luck
Exercise is a great filler with a positive result and after you finish you are less irritated. Tasting new foods that you couldn-t taste due to the nic will also make you feel great. Get some hard/sugar free candy to have in your mouth. People with oral needs (which is likely what you crave a little) do well sucking. I once knew someone who just kept a match in his mouth.
Isn-t it amazing at how time consuming smoking is???

I took up baking! Well, that and with all of that time more gets done, my interests are back and I can think clearly!

When I want a smoke I clean something instead!
Congratulations on making it 3 weeks! That is an accomplishment to be very proud of! Go get yourself something you-ve been wanting for a while. You deserve a treat for making it so long!

Here are some ideas for new habits that I found on a website called quit 4good.com.

Find new habits

Change your habits to make smoking difficult, impossible, or unnecessary. For example, it-s hard to smoke when you-re swimming, jogging, or playing tennis or handball. When your desire for a cigarette is intense, wash your hands or the dishes, or try new recipes.

Do things that require you to use your hands. Try crossword puzzles, needlework, gardening, or household chores. Go bike riding; take the dog for a walk; give yourself a manicure; write letters.

Enjoy having a clean-mouth taste and maintain it by brushing your teeth frequently and using mouthwash.

Enjoy the fact that you and/or your home will no-longer smell like smoke.

Stretch often.

Get plenty of rest.

Pay attention to your appearance. Look and feel sharp.

Try to find time for the activities that are the most meaningful, satisfying, and important to you.

When you get the crazies

Keep oral substitutes handy - try carrots, pickles, sunflower seeds, apples, celery, raisins, or sugarless gum instead of a cigarette.

Eat sunflower seeds - I have never seen any hard studies on this, but it is believed that sunflower seeds have a similar effect on the nervous system as nicotine. Supposedly, there is a chemical in the brain that triggers your body to act on its need for a cigarette. This enzyme or chemical is in some way relaxed by a substance in sunflower seeds. Many people used these seeds as an aid to help quit. If nothing else, it will help replace the oral craving associated with smoking while keeping your hands busy if you are getting a bit figity.

Take 10 deep breaths and hold the last one while lighting a match. Exhale slowly and blow out the match. Pretend it-s a cigarette and crush it out in an ashtray.

Take a shower or bath if possible.

Learn to relax quickly and deeply. Make yourself limp, visualize a soothing, pleasing situation, and get away from it all for a moment. Concentrate on that peaceful image and nothing else.

Light incense or a candle instead of a cigarette.

Never allow yourself to think that -one won-t hurt- - it will.

Don-t give up! You have made it past the worst part! You can do it!
You know I was having the same problem and I started smoking again. It-s a habit and you look forward to smoking at certain times. You just have to find a new habit.
It-s tough to do; I quit cold turkey. Best thing to do is keep very busy with your hands. Play guitar, do some cooking or artwork or crocheting or something like that. Resist the temptation to overeat.
Here-s how I have made it so far:
I have a -quit smoking meter- on my computer, I look at it every morning. This is what it tells me: Four months, two weeks, six days, 19 hours, 59 minutes and 11 seconds. 3943 cigarettes not smoked, saving $542.05. Life saved: 1 week, 6 days, 16 hours, 35 minutes
You can find one version here
http://www.quitmeter.com/

That gets me through the morning. On breaks, take the paper outside and read or suck on a tootsie pop or chew a piece of gum.
What you have to look forward to is quite wonderful. The smells and tastes are starting to come back now and it-s great. I smoked for 25 years and there are a lot of things I took for granted, like how great freshly cut grass smells just for one. You will notice this in the near future. Also take a look at your teeth. They will start getting whiter too, it will also make your gums healthier. As time goes on you will breathe better and sleep better too. There is a lot to look forward to if you really want to.
I quit smoking, now I have nothing to look forward to. What do you non-smokers do all day? -

I smoke about 8 cigarettes a day, i wan-t to quit smoking, should i quit immediately or gradually?
cold turkey -- you haven-t quit until all the nicotine is out of your system.

It really helps to take up jogging or swimming so your lungs are stressed and working hard. YOu cannot keep smoking or go back to smoking and then do DAILY exercise like this.

That-s how I quit after 20 years of smoking...
You should quit immediately, that-s the only way!
No gums and patches will help you quit, they just help you feel more desire to smoke.
Just have lost of will power and you will succeed, just think about all the advantages as a smoke-free person.
8 per day. Why even quit? 8 a day wont give you cancer or health problems. Only people who smoke 20+ per day get cancer. Save yourself the trouble and just keep smoking. Why go through such hell and personal anguish for nothing.
well it depends on how long you have smoked. judging by your question, you probably haven-t smoked that long. first try cold turkey, the withdrawal shouldn-t be that back considering you only smoke 8 a day. if you fail before the third day then try to cut it down to four cigs. after the third day. do this for about 3-5 days. then in the second week down to two, and then you are good as gold.
cold turkey.
Definitely cold turkey. Cutting down gradually is just torturing yourself. You-ll spend all your time watching the clock and waiting for your next cigarette. Just remember the cravings will go away whether you have a smoke or don-t have one. It may not seem like it at first, but it will get easier over time. Been there.
what ever you can handle to keep trying I did it
so can u
talk to your doctor, he knows your body well and what will work for you because every person is different. good decision!
Quitting gradually doesn-t work - you just torture yourself for longer.

Quitting smoking is a great opportunity to learn about ourselves, as you have already observed.
Congratulate yourself on having the desire to stop - then you are over the worst, but still need to maintain your resolve. It-s just so easy to start thinking that just one won-t hurt, but it does. Just one achieves nothing except feeling the need for another. Whatever you do, don-t have just one. Beware - alcohol will weaken your resolve.
Here-s a few home-brewed tips that might be useful.
It-s not just nicotine addiction - there are 50+ chemicals in cigarettes. Also the main problem is habit.
We have been used to having body sensations which we translate as -my body needs something-, which we have attempted to satisfy by having a cigarette.
When we try to stop smoking, we still get these -my body needs something- sensations, and we still feel that we want a cigarette. We have to train our body to be more selective. When we feel we need something, we have to work out what it is that we actually need.
A glass of water is an excellent substitute if nothing else comes to mind, as it helps with the clearance of the toxic substances in our body. Another good substitute is a bag of salted peanuts, used in combination with the water.
Another thing to do is to find an activity which occupies the mind or body. Go swimming - nobody wants to smoke while they are swimming. Slowly, as our body adjusts and translates the -want something- feelings into something other than cigarettes, then the feelings begin to go away. We know its not a cigarette that the body really needs, because as soon as we-ve had one we still have the feeling, and want another!
We will have a few bouts of feeling or even being short tempered. We must try to bite our lip, and control; ourselves. Recognise the short temper as being the removal of toxins which are trying to find a way out. They went in through the mouth, and they try to get out that way to. We must learn to keep our mouth closed, and force the toxins out the other way.

After we have stopped for a while we will begin to feel that just one wont to any harm.
All that leads to is a desire for just another one. We must guard very strongly against the desire to have just one.
You only smoke 8 cigarettes a day? This is too easy, here is what you do. When you get up in the morning, don-t light that first cigarette. Cause if you are anything like I was, that first one in the morning was the one that messed everything else up for the rest of the day. Simple solution, don-t light that first one for as long as you possibly can. After a few days it will take longer and longer and eventually you will just quit all by yourself. That is what I did 15 months ago and haven-t lit one since. The fun part was that I quit with 3 other smokers in the house who had no consideration.
As a 36yr smoker who smokes a pack a day I will tell you that you that if all you smoke is about 8 cigarettes a day, throw those those nasty, stinky and dirty SOB-s away and walk away.
Be prepared to be a little cranky for a week or so but when it is all said and done with you will start smelling better, start feeling better and you will get the public as a whole totally off of your back and then you WILL feel so good about yourself.
I have been trying to quit with the use of nicotine gum and I make a month or so then I end up caving.
I have now been smoking again for the last month and I have set another -Quit- date and this time I am just going to gut up and do it without the nicotine gum. . .too many of my friends tell me they are now hooked on the gum and I have to admit,I think I too was only transfering one habit for another myself.
to stop smoking go to your doctor to ask for that gum that helps for smoking and eat a lot of sunflower seeds. you-ll have the less urge for a cigarette
I quit cold turkey aug 5 and have been smoke free since then. I took off two days of work. After the first day The craving was so mild that it didn-t bother me. Just drink alot of water. It will flush you body out good luck.

Health

My husband said I couldn-t sleep in the bed until I quit. I didn-t take him seriously, so I would smoke and then I would be out on the couch. It made me angry then, and it makes me angry now, but I have quit, for 8 months and 10 days.
I watched my mother-in-law die from COPD. It was a painful d eath for her and the family. I watched her weight drop to 89 lbs and she became a walking skeleton, to weak to go to the bathroom so she wore adult diapers. The day she died, she was in the hospital surrounded by family. She fought for every breath of oxygen she could get, sucking in so hard you could see her rib cage through her gown and her eyes would roll back in her head. She finally couldn-t fight anymore and gave up.
I-m not suggesting you do this lol but I got pregnant :P The smell started to make me nautious even looking at them. :P
Nothing ...I still do !!
my bff, man she wouldnt stop nagging but it was good for me anyway, so yea...

I just recently quit smoking (7 days ago) and I have lost my taste buds, is this normal? -

Yes its normal, they crave the smoke and have to get used to it not being there. Brush your tongue when you brush your teeth to get rid of the dead stuff. After a while, you-ll be tasting what food really tastes like!! Keep up the good work, Sweetie! P.S. Something that helped my dad quit a 40 yr smoking habit-- gather up butts and ashes from people you know and like and put them into a sealable sandwich baggie- when you get the urge to smoke, open up the bag and inhale- when you finish hacking and coughing and wishing you hadnt done that, you wont be getting the urge very often!!

after 10 years of smoking cigarrate i quit 2 weeks ago lately i am felling restlessness, anxiety, having a vormitting feeling, have loose motions are these aftereffects of quitting
Yes, it will probably take a few weeks for those symptoms to subside ( of course you may want to check with your doctor, you never know). Then it becomes a huge mental game. I quit almost two years ago and there are still times when I want to reach for one. Good Luck
you are having withdrawal symptoms. They will go away soon.
smoke sometimes easy as that...

I quit smoking on 9-29 (my birthday) now its been about a week and I was wondering if yall had some advice? -

i-ve been dipping so i guess i-ll be addicted to that now i was just dipping to take the edge off of withdrawal symtoms and I-ve been coughing like a week before i quit and im still coughing a little but seems to be getting a little better i-ve smoked since a child now i-m 26 i was just tired of smoking my life away and i got a baby boy and another on the way and i want to be there for them and not die from something as stupid as smoking JUST ASKING For some advice on what to do or what to expect on quiting smoking thanks
I think it is a decision of the will and then write down those reasons and review them each day. You will need to do this one day at a time and every day. It is not easy so don-t think that because it isn-t easy you can-t do it. You can!

You also need to stop the use of tobacco products altogether. If you are a Christian ask God to release you from this bondage.

I remember that when I quit smoking I thought, -I don-t want to be a slave to a habit!- That worked for me but maybe keeping a picture of your family nearby to remind you why you are quiting will do it for you!
Well, if you-re STILL -on the Waggon...-- GOOD for YOU (- your kids)!!! But be FOREWARNED; you-ve got a couple of three weeks ahead of you that are GOING to be really ROUGH- so don-t think you-re out of the woods YET. ALSO, be CAREFULL that you don-t end up replacing ONE bad Habit- with another! Addictions are sneaky things- and one little -excuse- to backslide, almost ALWAYS leads to hundreds more. So hang in there. Congratulations. - Good Luck! It-s one of the BEST things you-ll ever DO- in your Life! :)
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!
Be so proud of yourself. Look at all the money you are saving. Your lungs are getting pinker every day. You smell so nice. You look healthy without that cigarette dangling out of your mouth. You are showing a good example to your child. I could go on - on.
I smoked many many years, I am so glad I was able to quit about 6 years ago. Best thing I-ve ever done. No regrets. You will soon feel the same way.
Just remember when you get that damn little urge to light up, if you say NO! the urge is gone. That little urge only last a few seconds. Keep saying no. Your doing great, keep it up sweetie.
PS they say the nicotene is out of the system in 4 days from quitting........so all you are feeling is the habit. you-ve beat the hardest part.
When I stopped smoking, anything in my mouth help. Dipping is different, because the motion of smoking is not there. I used sunflower seeds and put one in my mouth every time to single a -drag-.. congratulations.. eat candy and chew other things.
OK quit dipping cause that can cause oral cancer. Chew gum, lollipops, hard candy, toothpicks. It-s the habit now, although if you are dipping you still get nicotine.
Keep the good work up .You are over the main period now so stick to it.It gets easier now.Keep yourself active and busy.Drink alot of water to help flush the nicotine out of your system quicker. It has been 3 years for me since quitting.I have fath in you.You can do it.
Congratulations for making the effort! It will be tough, but be strong and know that you can do it.

I smoked 2 packs of Marlboro-s a day from the time I was 15-23. I am now 48 and haven-t smoked since. I stopped smoking when we decided it was time to start a family. I so wanted to have a child in a smoke-free home.

Yup, it-s tough. Don-t give up, even if you relapse. Focus on the fact that you are about to have a child and the positive impact it will make when he sees that you don-t smoke.

Start a college fund jar for your son. Every time you want a cigarette, take the amount of money it would cost for a pack and put it in the jar for your son. This will help both of you in the long run.

Remember -- you can do it!!!
It sounds like you-ve traded one addiction for another. It-s great that you-ve quit smoking, but dipping is not good. You-ll need to quit all forms of tobacco and nicotine. If you need help doing this, there are several over the counter products that could help you. You might also speak with your physician about it as well, and ask his/her advice about the best way to tackle it.

I hope this helps. Good Luck!

Whats the best way to quit smoking? -

Cold Turkey
Sunday was my THREE YEAR anny..
I just told myself I could do anything but SMOKE..so I indulged in food for awhile, got back into my running full time and within a few weeks I was on my way...
I also joined quitnet dot com where they share a lot of ideas AND support..I still go there to help the newbies..
I have never gotten up in the morning and thought
-Dang.......wished I neve quit!!!-

good luck..it-s worth every damn crave, to finally have this behind me!! To finally have that stupid insane monkey OFF my back!!
The way I quite smoking was this...........

I stocked up on sugar less candy and gum and put a piece in my mouth instead of a cigarette. To calm the jitters at night, I took a very low dose sleeping aid. (Ask your doctor first). To calm my
restless hands, I read a good book, and later took up making crafts, which I sold at a craft show for extra money.
chewing sugarless gum helps, and when you really really feel like it take a cig break it in half and then smoke it (not regularly just like once a day till you can completely avoid it)
smoke weed instead
never start
hell if i know..i have been trying to 2 years..
Stop buying cigarettes.
I just cut down slowly, like say I smoked a pack a day, then then I would slowly cut 2 cigs a day till I was down to 2 or 3 cigs a day and I stayed like that for a month or two till I just quit all together. But eveyone is different....
Perhaps the nicorette activestop program might help.
the best way to stop smoking is to buy gum and keep chewing it and everytime you feel like smoking just chew gum or eat candy
I quit smoking 6 years ago after smoking for 8 years. I went to the doctor and they put me on a depression medication called -Wellbutrin XL-. Anyways, it literlly makes each drag you take taste like butt!! Its sooo nasty you don-t want to smoke! They put you on 7 days worth of pills and you continue to smoke as you normally would. And on the 8th day, you stop taking the pills and you stop smoking. The hardest thing for me was the habit of putting something up to my mouth, or needing something with a beer, or socially. I had to change a lot of habits in order to get rid of one nasty one. Anyways, they have smoking cessation medication now, but insurance doesn-t usually cover it. Anyways, call your doctors office and ask a nurse what options they offer. Good luck to you!!

What is the easiest way to quit smoking? -

I am pleased to announce...I have been smoke free for 2 years, 1 months and 15 days! I was a pack a day smoker, (a chain smoker if at a party) for 25 years. I quit cold turkey! I used to purchase cigarette-s by the carton. One day I decided the carton I had just bought, would be my last. (It took me 3 days to smoke the very last pack). As I was smoking the carton...I would make myself -taste- the cigarette upon inhaling and exhaling. I would make a mental note of the -poison taste- I was able to pick up. I kept looking at other smokers in their cars, etc...and would say to myself...-look at them putting all that poision into their bodies, they are allowing themselves to die eariler-. Then, I finially got to my -last- cigarette...I got a -red- index card and wrote on it, with a black sharpie, -I AM A NON-SMOKER-...-POISION-...-MY LAST EXHALE OF THIS POISION-...__/__/__(date)...__:__p.m.(ti… Then, I made myself -hot box- the last one. I smoked it fast, made myself taste it, and kept saying to myself with every inhale...-this is poision-. After I finished, my lips were on fire...the taste in my mouth was discusting! I took the butt and ashes, dumped it all into a ziplock -snack- baggie and inserted the red index card, and zipped it up. I kept the -package of nasty- with me everywhere I went. If I was washing TV, I sat it next to it so I could keep a visual. If I got an -urge-...I just opened the baggie and took a wiff...I did that only once...that was all it took. I have had ZERO withdraws...no urges, at all! I feel fantastic. I know I will NEVER smoke again. It-s funny what it does to you when you become a non-smoker...I can-t stand to be around anyone who smokes, the smell turns my stomach. My taste, smell, breathing, and chest feels as if I never smoked! And, that nasty phlegm...I-ve never had it since. My best guy friend tried my idea...he-s been smoke free for 1 and 1/2 years! You don-t need all those other things...save your money and try my idea...it-s free. Let me know and GOOD LUCK! You can do it...it-s just a mind game...
I would say it depends on every individual. but mostly it-s about breaking habits (places and times where and when you usually smoked before) and keeping yourself busy. find new hobbies, try not to replace smoking for food, use nicotine patches or chewing gums. experiment a bit, see what works best for you. and be ready for what comes after you quit. the hardest part I would say is the first week. and after that every day is easier but it-s not normal for a long time. it is hard that is why not everybody can do it. I hope you find the strenght to drop this addiction. once you do you see how rewarding it is
Try the Nicorette patches/gums/lozenges. Do that in the steps. It should ease you out of your cravings.
There are other options for easing out of your habit. You can ask a doctor for a pill. (I actually know someone that quit smoking by taking this pill that used to be all over the tv commercials....but I forgot the name. Anywho, he said it worked!)
You could always go cold turkey, but I don-t recommend that. It might drive you crazy and lead to chain smoking.

Either way, best of luck.
tried many ways only one worked Chantric prescription drug
enjoy life doing hobbies
say i have quited smoking then be stright man

I think I-m more addicted to actually smoking cigarettes than the nicotine itself. I want to quit after I get married this February. Does anyone have any advice? Or know any doctors in NYC who could help me quit?
Make a list of the reasons you want to quit and the benefits. Write them down. Refer to them often. When you have a bad crave, read them.

Put together a -Quit Kit- with things like gum, hard candy, straws (to chew on), paper clips and rubber bands (to keep your hands busy) and whatever else you think may help you in your quit.

Drink lots of water. It helps clean your system.

Be prepared to have rough spots and feel uncomfortable for awhile, you are addicted to a drug and your body will go through withdrawal. But, it will pass as long as you do not smoke!

Find support. It is sooo much easier to quit if you have support. Try visiting www.quitnet.com. This site is amazing. A group of wonderful people support each other in their quits!

Quitting is the best decision you could make! It is so worth it!

Quitting is not easy, but it is very simple. Simply don-t smoke!
its the nicotine and other stuff that you are addicted to,dont kid yourself.
you do not need expensive doctors or trainers to get you to quit, you just need some good old fashioned WIILPOWER!!
Hi! Well i have tried to quit atleast 3 diffrent times since 2001! The longest I quit was for 6 months. I did discover why I start back to smoking. Every time I did start back it would be like 2 weeks before Christmas.... The stress and worrie drives me crazy and I break to the point of having a pack of cigs. I quit with those Hot Jolly Rancher hard candies! I had to buy like 3 big packages a week at first but in about a month I was like only buying 1 pkg. aweek. Well I hope this helps you and Good Luck with the Marriage and smoking....
You could always trade that addiction for a healthier one, for example, if you get a craving you chew some of that nicotine gum, and over time you could mix in more and more regular gum until finally you just chew regular gum, then you-re only problem is needing gum, and that at least shouldn-t shorten your life and the lives of those around you.

Just don-t try the cold turkey method, because that hardly ever works unless they had just started.
Hypnosis works! Trust me. It may take a few sessions but you can buy cds on ebay that will help.
if you-re a heavy smoker then don-t stop entirely immediately.
just smoke lesser and lesser each day until you finally get to zero.
key point would be determination as the withdrawal symptoms would be bugging you, so look for someone to control you or smth.
you can try nicotine sweets available in pharmacies to reduce the withdrawal symptoms caused by nicotine.
I started smoking for a very stupid reason. when i was in college some guy was smoking next to me. Stupid me thought i would try one and that would be that. Boy was i wrong. i came home for Christmas and my dad warned me that i would get addicted. I just did not listen. I have smoked on and off for the past 9 years. My doc gave me a new drug called chantix. you keep smoking while you take the first pack of of the drug (i think its 10 days) and than you stop smoking, but keep taking the pills until you are ready to stop. My advice for those who smoke or are thinking about it. DONT even have one cig.. once you do you are hooked and for those who already do smoke. STOP. i know its easier said than done, but you will feel better, you will smell better and most of all..you will live lot longer.
sCold turkey. That was the only way my mother could do it because she was allergic to the patch and has had negative effect with ati-depressants.

A doctor can prescribe you anti-depressants to help you quit smoking.
just stop smoking
