How long do nicotine withdrawls usually last when you quit smoking? -

What can be done to reduce the withdrawls?
Hi Harry ..

well i guess it really depends on what you mean by withdrawals.. Scott quotes that 3 day thing, and that-s for nicotine to get out of your blood stream.. that-s a generally accepted figure.

actually folks in the recovery community call the first week -hell week-.. but symptoms like tiredness etc, temporary weight gain etc, can go on for months... but my guess is that your probably talking about cravings..

folks in support groups, and the recovery community in general, have a little trick called the 5 D-s to deal with cravings..

1 Distract.. (do something else), like you cant smoke when your hands are in dishwater for instance..

2 Discuss.. you just did that by posting to yahoo answers, people in support groups would call a friend or send an e-mail..

3 Delay.. tell yourself you don-t need one now.. if you delay all the time you have quit!!

4 Drink water.. as simple as this sounds it slows cravings, and flushes toxins from the body

5 Deep breathe.. most smokers only deep breathe taking a hit from the cigarette.. learn to breathe deeply again, its good for you..

you may have guessed by now im a member of a support group.. i attend Nicotine Anonymous meeting both locally, and on line... on line voice meetings are as close as your computer.. you are welcome to attend while still smoking, however you decide to quit, good luck, there is simply no wrong way to quit!!

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.

Should I quit smoking for my baby? -

I am 7 months preggers and I smoke a pack a day. i am trying to get down to only half a pack but maybe it will just be fine.

what should i do? i think my boyfriend is just trying to scare me about birth defects and crap. also can-t i still have a few puffs of weed? that dont hurt.
Definatley YES!!! The effects of smoking to an unborn fetus are so terrible. Do some research, look at pictures. You can quit if you want to, I-m suprised you have continued to smoke this far into your pregnancy.
Nicotine causes physiological responses in the fetus, which allows it to be called a toxicant, but smoking is not a major cause of congenital malformations. If Mom smokes during pregnancy, she may have up to twice the risk of miscarriage. Decreased growth of the baby before birth has also been seen. Abruptio placentae ( premature separation of the placenta from the uterus), placenta previa (the placenta covering the opening of the birth canal), premature rupture of the membranes (early breaking of the bag of fluid around the baby) and premature delivery can be caused by cigarette smoking. Oxygen deprovation is a huge problem for the fetus and can result in not fully grown lungs and severe asthma, but also brain damage.
MARIJUANA
The evidence is still not conclusive on marijuana use either in pregnancy or before. Because the question still exists of possible problems, the smart thing is not to use it.
Absolutely. You could be giving your baby severe birth defects with that nicotine in your system.

Here-s a guaranteed solution to your problem: Here-s what you do:

When my aunt was pregnant, and she was pregnant three times, she quit smoking by going to see a hypnotist. A hypnotist only charges about 75 dollars, and you-ll just stop. Your child will be protected and you won-t feel the psychological effects of nicotine withdrawal. Go today.
He is trying to scare you because it is HIS baby too. Seriously, you will end up paying for this later when your child has learning difficulties, behavioral problems (like ADHD) or worse - like cystic fibrosis or other lung diseases. There is no question about it, you have already damaged your baby. So if you really want to salvage something then:
No drink AT ALL
No Smoking AT ALL
NO WEED or other drugs AT ALL

They are all bad. Also eat a lot of vegetables - these can reverse some of the damage you have done.
a baby from a smoking mom can have serious deceases like very low weight, athsma lung problems, poor or malformation in his lungs, if also you are using drugs the baby may have malformations, and an addict.
once the baby born will be so irritable because the nicotin he have had, the baby will feel the same need for the nicotine than the mom. that means your baby it is already adict to the nicotine. he may have brain problems because that
Please stop smoking this is really bad for your baby it can cause many defects and your boyfriend is not trying to scare you because what he is saying is true.If you went to a doctor he would tell you that smoking is bad for you and your baby.Just try not to smoke for your baby because it can cause problems for the rest of its life.
First of all *hug* You should talk to your doctor and such and see how your baby is doing. Ive read a lot of the answers and they all seem kinda harsh but they are telling the truth. You should stop smoking for your baby and yourself. There are possible defects and problems that can occur because of it. It is dangerous but living is dangerous. You can walk out into the street tomorrow and get hit by a bus. Will it happen? Possibly but not probably. Will your smoking cause the baby harm? Possibly. So I would quit or try my hardest to quit but if you cant then I-m sorry for you and anything that might happen but I-m sure things will turn out the way they have to. Fate is a funny thing my friend. It will be okay. *hug*
The truth hurts and your boyfriend is definitely right.
Each day you smoke, the part of the baby-s body that-s being developed that day WILL be defected.
If you-re seven months old and you-ve been smoking every day, I mean a PACK a day, you-re baby is, no question, going to be defected.
It hurts me inside, a total stranger, to know what you-re doing to your baby. I just want to slap you right now, and you have NO idea.
You just ruined a child-s life, your own childs life!
If you were gonna quit, you should-ve when you found out you were pregnant, and don-t smoke weed either. Everything you-re doing right now is just wrong. Half a pack or even ONE cigarette a day will hurt your baby in one way or another.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE see a doctor. Please do it, they will give you a suggestion and please stick to it. Please do it for the baby. PLEASE.
And, if you still choose not to, I hope you realize once your baby is born, you-re the one going to pay for the medial bills to help screw up their life. The meds for they-ll need for their life.
AUGHHH, so mad right now, you made my day from being great to miserable. :(
The first thing you should do is talk to your doctor. Depending on how much you smoke, you might end up hurting the baby if you quit cold turkey. Certainly, you should quit for yourself and your child, unborn or not. However, there has been some talk that simply quitting can be harmful as your body goes through withdrawal. Talk to your doctor about the best way to handle quitting while pregnant. As for smoking marijuana...QUIT NOW! Pot is DANGEROUS to an unborn child. Its DANGEROUS to you!
Yes.

Every cigarette you smoke deprives your baby of oxygen and pumps it up with carbon monoxide (which deprives it of even *more* oxygen). Even if there were no other risks, that oughta be enough to convince you.

An occasional puff of weed *might* not be too unhealthy, but no one actually knows, and it *does* do the carbon monoxide thing just like tobacco... so don-t.
Birth Defects and crap. NEWSFLASH!!! It-s definitely healthier to not smoke while being pregnant. If you quit now that would be great. Your baby could be born with breathing problems, low birth weight and a slew of others. This is FACT not a scare tactic. This is a scare tactic....Imagine the medical bills from a serious birth defect or the sadness you will feel when your child is made fun of by others because it can-t play as long as the others due to its less than average lung capacity.
in all reality, it doesn-t matter at this point, it is true that your child may have horrifying birth defects, but the fact that you don-t care enough to have already quite means 2 things.
1) you may have ruined your child-s life, and it-s too late to change that and
2) you have demonstrated that you do not care about the child, and you do not deserve him or her. In my oppinion you deserve to die.

p.s. i-m a smoker too, so i know it-s not that easy to give up but your childs health sould have been first.
Stop smoking. My mom smoked when she was preggers with me and my 4 sibs and we turned out o.k., but that was 44 years ago when a cigarette was tobacco and not filled with additives. As far as the weed, supposedly smoking weed kills brain cells. I don-t think it diffentiates between you or your baby. I can-t imagine THC does anything good. Smoking one is like smoking 20 cigarettes. You only have two months to go.
your baby could already have problems from yoiu smoking, sorry to say, you should have thought about this waaay earlier.
when i was little there was a kid in my neighborhood whos mom smoked when she was pregnant with him, he ended up getting a skin condition that made his skin look like it was very dried out and rashy.
and he was lactose intolerant.
YOU NEED TO QUIT. The later in the pregnancy the worst it is for your unborn baby. Your boyfriend it SO RIGHT. After your baby is born you still do not need to smoke as the second hand smoke is worse for the baby. When you smoke you puff it through a filter the baby and others get no filter and it is 10x more addictive.
definitely quit smoking for your baby!
don-t take chances..half a pack is just as bad.
if you smoke at all, your baby is at risk for birth defects and other health issues! he-s right to be scaring you because the health of your baby is very important!
and yes, a few puffs of weed is bad.
it-s still smoke and marijuana is bad
its pretty imposible to -just have a few puffs of weed.- one puff or two might not hurt, but if you start you pretty much wont stop. soon your puff or two of weird will be 50 puffs of weed and that does hurt. besides isnt weed agaisnt the law?
p.s. 2 superpug.
smoking kills thousands of people threw lung cancer . i hope you get over your childish fanacies of smoking never kills anyone.
you idiot! of corse that can hurt the baby! what you eat or drink, or smoke the baby does! i cant beleive soemone 7 months preg is smoking! it can kill your baby! especially in the earlier stages, because it is still developing. i truly cant bleieve you. when your baby is born all messed up, dont wonder why. moron...
I don-t really believe you-re doing this question...

You should quit smoking (at all) from the moment you knew you were pregnant.

Besides, if you take drugs during your pregnancy, you-ll make your baby a drug addict...

Everything you say is wrong!!!

If you-re serious, please, take care, please stop smoking and getting high!!! Do it for your baby!!!

Merci!!!
OMG....quit smoking right now!!!!! that is harmfu for your baby and u too....and i would read that -What To Expect When Your Expecting- it tells u alot of things that helps u and the baby...it also tells u about birth defects and how they happen...one of the examples is smoking.....you should also quit drinking if u do too......
p.s: smoking when u r pregnant weakens ur baby-s lungs and it will mostl likely have asthma.
Although I still smoke myself I must say to you at this stage of your pregnancy you should most certainly quit. In the first place you should do it for the sake and safety of the child. Secondly it will benefit you - especially if you can stay off. Good fortune be with you.
your a stupid idiotic baby killer!!!!!!!!!

well you know if ur weed wont kill it then shurly the pack a day wont hey why not wash it all down with a gallon or 10 of hard core alcohol and a couple shots of vodka dang stupid idiot

btw what ever you do to your self your doing to the baby
This is a joke, right? You are the reason certain people should be banned from smoking. Good job, your definitely on the downhill when it comes to being a good parent. I pray that your child will end up nothing like you and is okay, even though it-s highly unlikely.
Absolutely no more drugs. If you love your baby you-ll quit ASAP. I know it won-t be easy but it will be worth it. And yes, weed DOES hurt. There are medicines that can help you quit and support groups that can keep you on course. Good Luck!
Oh My Gosh. This has to be a joke. You are killing your baby. A PACK A DAY!?!?!? Someone should evaluate you for mental issues. Weed? GO GET HELP. There are a ton of birth defects and this baby will not be healthy - if even alive.
Surprised you felt the need to ask!
Your child may not have any reason to thank you for smoking while you were pregnant and at worse may have the reason to resent you.
As a -loving- mother, give up!
it will affect your baby. whatever you take in, your BABY takes in. I dont think thats fair if your baby is born addicted to weed. anything you do or take in your baby is affected by it.
If you continue smoking like this, your baby could come out dead, and you could be sent to jail for it. if your baby does come out alive, it could have mental issues.
Stop smoking. Your boyfriend is right. Smoking is extremely bad for you and worse for your baby. I hope you are joking about this.
Yes, quit smoking. When ur preggo ur suppossed 2 not smoke. It will destroy the baby, and ur bf is correct about birth defects. And that does hurt u and the baby
No No

smoking has never killed anyone

and you know weed is actually good for you look at all the successful people on weed like . . . . athletes?

oh i guess weed does make one relax and chill.

Yeah thats kool.

good luck

babies are kool

Just quit smoking question? -

I jsut quit smoking 2 days so far it-s so good but I feel like I can-t slow down I been moving since 8am I am little light head every now and then I get a little fuzzy eyed but the main thing I can-t slow down is all of this normal how long does it last ty
Congratulations and well done! These feelings are natural and it-s just your body adjusting to more oxygen and nutrient availability and less toxins in your bloodstream. After about three weeks practically all of the residual toxins in your body will be gone (they will have been metabolised). By then your physical condition will have stabilised and you-ll feel much fitter and healthier.
That is normal, my advice hit the bottle and the world will spin for a bit then stop
What you are going through is nicotine withdrawal symptoms. The duration of these symptoms depends upon how much you have been smoking and for how long. You might consider using a natural remedy to reduce the withdrawal symptoms and nicotine craving.
I don-t know how long it lasts.. but I do know you should stick it out.
I did.
It-s tough indeed. Later on you might even feel pain in your body parts (joints, teeth...) which you never felt before when you were still locomoting. But perseverance is the key, and remember the reward awaiting, being fit and healthy!
I support you
I was so glad to hear that you have stopped smoking. My thumbs go way up for you. I know it may be hard but keep going the longer you make it without smoking the easier it will get for you...I promise.I used to smoke and quit more then 9 years ago. Being light headed and moving around is probably normal as your body and mind is missing the nicotine intake. That will slowly fade away and you will feel like a brand new person.Keep up the good work and please don-t ever start smoking again. My dear mother died of cancer due to smoking she suffered horribly until the end.May God bless you.

Quit smoking advice : How many days does it take for the nicotine to leave the body ? Withdrawal symptoms? -

I am on CHAMPIX tablets (Varenicline Tartrate). Have gone from smoking 25/day down to 4/day in 14 days. Just want to know if I have passed the danger (withdrawal) stage.
I took a health psychology course last year and to my memory our professor told us that it takes a whole month for all traces of nicotine to leave your body, so I guess you could qualify this as the danger zone. After you pass this stage I think you might find that your body begins to get used to not having the drug running through your system.

Hold on as long as you can!

P.S. if you run into any trouble with kicking your habit, I was also told that hypnosis is a good method for quiting (seriously), so give it a go if you haven-t already.

Good luck.
You have to quit COMPLETELY now or you never will. I don-t know how long it takes for the nicotine to disappear but it won-t if you continue to smoke. I remember when I quit 40 years ago and people asked me for a smoke I proudly told them -I Quit-. When I quit I ate seedless grapes, like M-M-s or other kinds of fruit, to day you can buy suger free lolly pops. I used to count the days and then the weeks and then the months until I just forgot to count.

My boyfriend is trying to quit and he is driving me crazy! do you have ANY advise that I can give him?
How anyone can recommend Chantix is beyond me - people are killing themselves on it!

Have him check out electronic cigarettes. People are using them as a reduced harm smoking alternative and then lots of people are successfully using them to quit completely (like me).

Have him check out vapersforum.com a forum dedicated to e-cigs lots of info and nice people to answer questions and checkout some videos on youtube.
There are lots of options so make sure to do a little research before buying one as prices vary by A LOT
cold turkey mang, the first three days is the hardest
smoke a lotta pot so your at least still smoking something thats not as bad for you and makes you feel nice and try not to be around people that are smoking cause it-ll make you crave
and dont even take -just one pull-, it makes it more acceptable everytime, thats how i started smoking again
goodluck sir!
I set a date (Nov. 1st) a month in advanced and smoked whenever I wanted before than, but when the clock turned twelve I accepted the lifestyle change, and now, even though it hasn-t been that long, I-m a non smoker :D good luck to your boyfriend -33333

also there are plenty of sites that can assist in quitting,
just bing or google it :)
Hi

Depending on his age, beg, coerce, bribe him to see a doc, or talk to his parents about getting him to one....It is EXTREMELY difficult to stop once one gets hooked. There are chemicals (other than the tobacco) put into the cigarettes that literally cause you to become addicted.

I know some people who do it cold turkey, but I couldn-t. Nor could my boyfriend or neighbor.

We all went on Chantix. We all quit. It-s the first thing I-ve ever known to work that well. I-m a grandma - retired healthcare worker so I-ve been -around the block- a few times :)

Coudos to you for trying to help him!

Hope I-ve helped in return~!
I haven-t been a smoker, but from what I have read, cold turkey is the most successful method.

We are coming up on the great American smokeout, November 19. Good time for him to quit and get lots of support. The American cancer society has a quit line to help.

I was married to a smoker and have permanent lung problems as a result. Don-t stay with him if he won-t quit. Your kids can end up sick too.

I used the Commit nicotine lozenges. The most effective med these days is Chantix, it needs prescription but it works really well.

Ex smokers only please My husband and I want to quit smoking? -

My husband and I are very health cautious except for are nasty habbit, Im pretty sure it will be harder for him to quit then me. I would like to know some ways that helped you kick the habbit, I hate being a smoker and I want to live a long happy life. Its a hard addiction to be rid of.
Read this book:The Easy Way To Stop Smoking by Alan Carr
motivate each other, and encourage one another so you can live happier longer! the gum helped me
It has been a year last october since I had my last cigarrette. I smoked for 13 yrs.
Quitting is hard... but I think its the hype of how hard it is that plays a mental game on us. Its worth a few weeks of Hell to quit, you will save alot of money and help your health.

How I did it?? Well, I know you don-t want to hear this but the only way to do it is cold turkey. you need to distract yourself from the cravings. STRONG minty gum, will help you get the -breathy- feeling. I also reccomend hot tea and coffee to distract you... I had to go outside and sit with my coffee for 5 min brakes to soothe my mind.
I have tried other methods.. its just prolonging the inevitable... remember this, it takes only a few days to get away from the physical addiction, the mental addiction is what would cause you to smoke again. That helped me not give in to my weak brain too.
Smoking is one of the most difficult addictions to overcome. You can expect some severe stress, headaches, irritability, dizziness, edginess, and hunger. Some people experience diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and trouble sleeping.

Having said all that, you CAN kick it. A lot depends on how long you-ve been smoking and how strong your resolve is to quit. I smoked for MANY years. I found that the patch coupled with nicotine gum helped me. I know, the directions tell you not to mix the two. I-m telling you what worked for me. The patch took care of most of the normal cravings but a couple times a day in the first week it was either gum or a cigarette.

Also, think of when you smoke most and try to avoid those activities or places. For example, alcohol and cigarettes go well together. I avoided all alcohol and bars for the first two weeks.

There-s lots of help on line, from your doctor, and maybe the local lung cancer association.

Good luck. It-s tough but you can do it one hour at a time.
Well I personally have never smoked but I am the daughter of a smoker and also the younger sister of a smoker and the best thing out there to help you quit are the new prescription drugs that are on the market to help you quit. They end up making your stomache queasy and nauseuos whenever you try to light up a new cigarette. They are expensive but they helped both my long time smoking mom and my older sis both quit! Good luck
Read the information here and it may give you some help as to how you can quit. I know it-s harder than most think but I also know you can do it if you want. Make the decision to quit today.
Chantix...ask your dr for a script! It-s awesome!
I can tell you a way to help you quit smoking without using drugs. I have several friends that have successfully quit without having the usual ill effects usually associated with quiting (like gaining weight). See the Peggy Fleming video at
http://www.12weeks.info

I don-t know exactly why this works but it does. Not only will you have the benefits of quiting but your health will improve so rapidly, you may choose to keep using this great natural product from now on. If I can help more, write back to boatclub@go.com
Hello,
I do not smoke. I have been told that Wellbutrin is great for quitting. This is an Anti-Depressent, but it is used for this purpose to(Quit Smoking). The great thing is you should not gain weight with wellbutrin.
Please contact your Doctor/Nurse for further information. The doctor may have samples in the office free of charge to you.Your doctor is your best source of any health questions you may have.
my wife used the patch system. I think it took six weeks. three different strengths, each one weaker than the other. You may need a prescription and it is not cheap. Your insurance may pay for most of it if you are serious.
You can-t do it unless you are really motivated. good luck.
Only experience I have is using Wellbutrin to quit. I smoked for 14 years and tried this medicine and quit the first time I used it. The only side effect I experienced is a dry mouth every once in a while. I didn-t experience any cravings. I am still on the medicine until the end of next month. I haven-t had any cravings or a smoke since Jan 9th. I wish you both lots of luck.

I quit three years ago cold turkey. I had tried to -cut back- but that didn-t work. I never tried the patch but my brother quit smoking seven times using the patch - which tells you how effective it is long term! I don-t find it helpful to continue to feed your body what it is addicted to (in this case, nicotine) if your goal is to quit. The first day was horrible, I felt like my skin was crawling and I had trouble sitting still. After three days I felt okay and then the cravings were just psychological, not physical. If you quit cold turkey and you are a coffee drinker, go easy on the caffeine - nicotine weakens the effects of caffeine in your system, so without it you-ll feel like you want to climb the walls.
generally- people that lose one lung, cut their smoking in half
I smoke, and a few years ago I tried to quit cold turkey and got really sick ... I felt dizzy, couldn-t concentrate, couldn-t fall asleep ... it was miserble

I think probably the best way is to cut down slowly and gradually, maybe over a few months. If, for example, you smoke 20 a day, you could try to just smoke 19 for a few days and then 18 ... etc.
I find that when I have a hang over, I seem to not want to smoke at all! So try having a hangover for three days straight. I-m pretty sure the last thing on your mind is a cigarette. lol

Good luck on that and your health =)
Ive been smoking for going on 5 years now, and finally i have decided to quit. The best way for me to quit was to do it guadually. I went from smoking 10-15 cigs a day, to 5-6 now i-m down to 1 a day. I found myself inspiration. A guy i like, HATES smokers so yeah...find yourself a good inspiration :) Most people would say - your health should be good enough-, but thats easier said then done. Find something that you WANT(like a girlfriend/boyfriend,a better role model for your kids...etc etc). Quitting smoking is a decision only you can do, and i wish you the best of luck
Switch to something healthy, addictions are easily curable if you replace them (thereby not necessarily curing...)

I used sunflower seeds...
just keep some with you and whenever you have the urge, just pop some seeds!

Peace.
stop it slowly!!
i mean reduce every stick u puff in a day!!
if you puff 20 sticks in a day make it 19 on the other day until you get over it!!!
good luck!!!
Whenever you feel like smoking put a toffee or candy in your mouth and suck on it. If it is menthol based still better. My friend used supari (made with arecanut fried, powdered and sugar red). in a few months you will leave that habit.
I smoked for 16 years. I tried the gums and lozenges but morning cravings were the worse. The patch worked for me for those mornings. I tried a couple of times not going through the whole system and I went back to smoking each time. You-ll have to go through the steps and several times on step 3 (after step 1 or 2) if needed. I tried cold turkey and it worked for about 3 days and then went back. Mark your -quit date- on the calendar. Whichever way you decide to quit, that-ll be the day you start. Throw out all cigs, including the secret stash ones. If you have a craving, wait it out. It-ll pass in 10 mins. Keep straws, licorice, gum, mints, sunflower seeds, or pistachios on hand to chew on. Good luck!

if you have got execellent support from people around you, you can surely get rid of it.I have tied it on my friend.we asked him to think the negative aspects of smoking and we told him that life will get ruined if this is the way you continue to smoke.
so best of luck!
Nicorette gum, a doctor got after me about my smoking, and being away from people who smoked for a couple of months did it for me. There are excellent tips on the Nicorette web site too. Check -em out.
eat a lot of oatmeal, drink a lot of water, and try the patch or that nicotine gum.

The oatmeal will clean your system and the water will flush all that yucky stuff out. as for the patch and the gum I don-t really know what it does but that is what my aunt did and it worked for her.

i have been smoking for almost 4 years now, and i dont want to have to buy nicotine patches or anything like that, i just want to quit without spending money.
Decide how many cigarettes you smoke a day. Each week smoke one less cigarette per day that week. This will take a while but it is the only thing that helped me and i have tried them all. Good luck to you.
water, cinnamon and Nicotine Anonymous
Lobelia - lots of distilled water.
try herbpharm avena licorice compound

I had a boyfriend who smoked 30 years; I was allergic to cigarette smoke, and he decided to quit for smoking for me. He was successful.

I gave him herbpharm-s avena licorice compound. This apparently gave him the boost he needed to add to willpower.

or other websites or health food stores sell it. It has an orange-yellowish label.

He had no cravings for 5 days. As a former smoker who quit cold turkey 30 years ago last month (I forgot that until you brought it up), I know having no cravings is not typical.

It is the lobelia in the formula that truly helps. The website below also attest to this and mentions Dr. schulze (along with other suggestions and talks of lobelia--just one of many sites)

http://www.mnwelldir.org/docs/misc/smoke…

See Schulze-s index (stop smoking) for Dr. Schulze-s suggestions of formulas to stop smoking and his website for buying lobelia, and his other recommendations.

http://herbdoc.com/p64.asp

see smoking in the index here and then go to products

Dr, Schulze (1-800-herbdoc) has the best tinctures on the market 99.9% organic/wildcrafted which are 8 times higher in psytochemicals which cure and prevent diseases and he doesn-t schimp on the herbs..

if I was doing only two things--I would use the herbpharm avena-licorice and schultze-s lobelia as well if you can afford it..herbpharm is also one of the best companies--

try this first if only using one thing over the lobelia as the avena-licorice also contains lobelia.

Lobelia is an amazing herb and the only herb Dr. hristopher (the father of odern herbology and Schulze teacher did an entire chapter of in his book (the school of natural healing)...he calls it the thinking herb.

Also go to the library or health food store and look at the suggestions Linda Rector Page gives in her book -healthy healing----one of the best health books ever.

When I quit my 3 pks a day habit I decided on a date. I smoked EVERY last cigarette I had. I emptied all ashtrays from the house. I had dropped down to the lowest tar - nicotine I could find prior and then quit. I rewarded myself with the money I would have spent on cigarettes by spending it on goodies, whatever you like, mine was car parts. And an important thing to remember if you should fall off the wagon, GET right back on it. A thing I did to prevent co-workers and friends from giving me cigarettes is to crumble it up when they gave me one. They would get mad and call me names but NEVER offer another cigarette to me. Good Luck . . . it-s a tough road to go down.
I can get my daughter to read to you her health project on everything that goes into a cigarette (that-s how I quit) after 16 years of smoking, some of the ingredients are toilet cleaning chemicals, disinfecting chemicals etc. That is honestly how I quit but another good tip is you have to replace one addiction/habit for another, so find something healthy to replace it with, or you quit gradually reduce your cigarettes by 1-2 a day and soon enough you want even crave it. Good luck 2 u
Quitting smoking all boils down to one word: commitment. If you are committed to quit, you would have won half the battle. Whether the method is by patches, herbal remedies, etc, those are just tools that can be of assistance in your goal to quit.

I-m sure that you-ve heard of people who went go turkey. How did that work? Commitment and a decision to really quit for good.

For those who do so gradually, they were committed to the overall goal of becoming healthy and not to light another cigarette.

So a lot really depends on how badly you want to quit smoking.
Research the harmful diseases that smoking can cause. I did a report on this not too long ago.. I googled the diseases and harms of smoking and found some sites that really gave me that boost to quit. Also, regular chewing gum works kinda well.

Maybe you can find pictures on the web of people with yellowish skin or nasty teeth and tape them up around your pad. One by the door so you won-t want to go out and buy a pack..

Has anyone tried chantix or the shot to quit smoking? -

I have heard a lot about them both. I am looking for which one works better with the least amount of side effects.
And do they really help you quit. It is awesome if they work.
Chantix does in fact work, it takes away all the craving for cigarettes, and if you do smoke on Chantix you will get no feeling from the cigarette, it will taste disgusting. So after taking the drug for a few months you will effectively never need a cigarette again. However, many people have reported severe, profound depression on Chantix, and there have even been some suicides, so if you are already prone to depression, discuss this with your physician.
I used chantix, and it was amazing. Quit back in June, haven-t had a cigarette since :-) !!

The cravings are minimal... avoid drinking for the first few weeks, especially if you associate drinking with smoking, as many of us do. And, of course, its never a good idea to mix alcohol with prescription drugs.

Really though, it was perfect. I had tried to quit before, but I couldn-t even last one day without a cigarette. With chantix, it was so easy!

I know I sound like a bad advertisement, but for good reason. I-ve heard that even those who quit smoking never get over it, they always think of themselves as smokers and are constantly fighting that craving, but I never feel like that. Granted, I only smoked for eight years, but I honestly forget that I used to smoke, as if I never started.

I haven-t tried the shot, or heard of anyone who has, so I can-t help you with that, but I assure you that chantix does work. The only bad side effect (for me) was a nauseous feeling IF I didn-t take it with food... but still, a small price to pay to quit smoking :-)

Also, I didn-t take it for the full (is it four or six?) months, as it recommended, I only took it for three. Your chances of succeeding are better if you take it for the entire six months, but my doctor told me it wasn-t necessary... After the first two weeks, you will take the same dosage for the rest of the time, so you don-t have to worry about lowering it before stopping.
I have a girlfriend who successfully quit using chantix. She hasn-t had a cig in 3 yrs (or 4?) as of Jan. 1st.

Another girlfriend of mine quit this past year and I know she was using chantix at one point, but not sure if she used it throughout the whole quitting process.

I-m not familiar with anyone who has used an injection to quit, so cannot comment on that.
Chantix, or english name Champix works i think works by blocking the part of your brain which controls craving. A lady i work with sucessfully quit with it and she smoked a lot; word of warning - shes put on quit a bit of weight. almost a stone i think. good luck.

How can I make myself want to quit smoking? -

How can I make myself want to quit smoking? -

I don-t want to quit. I enjoy smoking. How do I make myself WANT to quit?
Don-t try to quit smoking unless you really want to quit. And, even if you want to quit, it may take several times to get it right (it usually does).

But, very important, recognize that you don-t enjoy smoking. You may think you do. But what is really happening is that you are enjoying having your addiction satisfied - that is, the elimination of the withdrawal symptoms that quickly develop between smokes.

You need to realize how addicted you are, and recognize that any sense of enjoyment comes from meeting your addiction.

You may not reach this stage of understanding.

But until you do, you will always fool yourself into thinking that you -enjoy- smoking.

Good luck.
If you don-t want to quit, don-t. If and when the time comes that you decide to quit, don-t say you-ll TRY - you have to really have the mind set to say that - you WILL.

Good luck - you-re not alone.
If you want to want to quit, I-d definitely recomend NOT reading this article (more of a research paper) that can be found here: http://ryomagazine.com
Thruth be told, you can-t make yourself do anything, its free will. You should only stop if you want to, not because others want you to. Always remeber, your heart is more loyal and trusting then your mind, so always follow your heart.
donate your extra money in orphant so you have to budget your money.lol
have you ever seen pictures of people who smoke? like of inside thier mouths? it is so gross. it is totally burned out, like you can see that it has been charred and killed by the smoke. your lungs will shrivel up and turn black and blue from lack of oxygen. try looking at pictures, because they are so gross! compare how the lungs of a smoker and the lungs of a healthy human look and compare them. you can actually like burn out your teeth from smoking. and that-s not to mention that many people say that kissing a smoker is like licking an ashtray! now how gross is that? how theheck can you enjoy that?
Stop long enough so that you can start to sense the natural repulsion your healthy body has for the effects cigarettes convey.

This can take many different forms. I curtailed smoking and increased running at the same time. At first I couldn-t go far at all. Dropping my daily level of cigarettes helped me to up my mileage.

Another way would be to cut back on smoking and let your sense of smell come back. When you have it a little more fully recovered, breathe some fresh air and then immediately follow that with breathing in how your clothes or sweaters smell.

Or just wash out an ash tray and look at the gunk and stuff that is going into your body. Do all of this after you-ve been away from smoking a bit so as to look at it from a fresher perspective. It may help your concious mind to start to run from this habit as quickly as possible.

Then when you succeed, treat yourself to something nice. Like a visit to that stranger you mentioned in an answer to my question.

Good luck! I-ve been there.
You might want to try Nicocure Quit Smoking Patch.

It Eliminates All Cravings for Nicotine. Makes Cigarettes Taste Terrible. Ends your Smoking Habit Permanently.

Nicocure is the safest and fastest way to make you quit smoking with no withdrawal symptoms.

You can read more about it here:

Your question alone means youre interested in quiting because youre looking for a way... I was only able to quit because I got pregnant...not suggesting it, but I believe that is the only way that I wouldve quit.
If it-s any consolation, I myself am trying to quit, I have a notepad I keep with my cigarette case and I write down the time I light up and each day so far I have cut down. I think yesterday I smoked 23 today I smoked 16 and tomorrow Im gonna try for less. After all we gradually started smoking so why not gradually stop. So far mine has been working and I have been staying really busy. If I see that I smoked one at 9:00A.M. I make myself wait for an hour or two.Good Luck
I can only tell you what worked for me, I hope it helps.
When I was 25 I watched the woman I love suffer through, and loose, a horrific battle with cancer. In the 10 years that have passed since, the memories that still haunt me are not the ones of the Chemo sessions, or watching her get eaten alive from the inside out. They-re not of the nights she shook in my arms in agony, or that sweaty smell of fear, pain, and approaching death that still wakes me in the middle of the night. My memories are not of her torturous demise, or the agony of my losing her, for those pains don-t even scratch the surface of what I saw her parents go through. Her passing destroyed them, and they struggle with their greif to this very day.
If you can-t scare yourself into quitting, I suggest volunteering at any cancer ward in any hospital.
If that doesn-t work think of how your impending demise will hurt the ones you love.
If you cant quit for yourself, then stop being selfish and do it for the ones who love you.

I have smoked since I was 15. I am now 28 and keep trying to quit with no success. I smoke with the patches on, the gum is nasty. I have heard about this drug Chantiz. Does it work? How much will it run a person without insurance? I desperately want to quit I just need a magic pill that causes me to wake up and forget I ever smoked. LOL Any help is greatly appreciated.
I have smoked for 20 yrs.....1-2 packs a day.....I tried the patches, the gum and various other things that were guaranteed to work..lol...

I started Chantix a week ago and so far so good...cravings have gone down significantly and I do not want to kill everyone that talks to me.

I work in a Dr-s office and have seen alot of success with Chantix....it is expensive if you have no insurance...however there is the -Connection to Care program- where you can get them from the manufacture at no cost depending on your income. Go to Pfizer.com and it will give you the details.

Good luck
You may want to try the flavored gum. I buy mine on ebay from a seller DOGPARLOR. I buy the 4mg fruit flavored Habitrol gum. It-s much cheaper on Ebay. As we both know, quiting is hard, and it-s a mind set we get in, that we have to have that cigarette. I really don-t think it-s the nicotine that-s hard to quit, but the habit of having that cigarette in your hand and mouth. I wish there was a magic pill, but our mind is really our only pill to get us to quit smoking. Just one day at a time. I-ve quit smoking for 5 years now, but I-m still on the gum, which I think it-s better than smoking. You-ll get use to the flavor after a while .
I began smoking at the age of 15 and finally quit for good at the age of 57 (a year ago), when I was at a pack a day. Even tho- all the experts say you have to go cold turkey, I think that just increases the craving. This is how I did it. Everytime I wanted a cigarette, I only smoked half of it. So, I immediately cut my intake in half. After a few weeks of doing that (gives your body time to adjust to less nicotine), I would only take about 4 puffs, put it out and save it for the next craving. After a few weeks of that, I went to 2 puffs, then one puff (where one cigarette could last me a day or two). My body gradually got used to doing without the nicotine and I got to a point where I said, -when this pack is done, I-m not buying anymore-. That was a year ago. Recently, I stayed with my son, who smokes, and took a drag off his cigarette. I didn-t like the taste and it hurt my throat. If I can do it, you can do it, because I loved smoking!!!
Just stop. You have to choose not to smoke everytime you get the urge.
You just have to really commit and get rid of the smokes. Your will power can get you through.
stop buyiing them for one.... hypnosis... -- cant spell but you know. ive never smoked. oh. you can start putting the money that you use to buy smokes. in a jar. at the end of the year youll have about 2000 bucks or more. then you could buy ... what a down payment on a nice tv.. or a car.
If all else fails enter the Big Brother house. (like audition for it) You definitely can-t smoke in there.
all my dad did was threw them away and chewed gum :)
Think about it like this, if you went to the Dr today and he told you, -if you smoke one more cigarette, you will die-. What would you do?

Okay so every morning when you wake up, imagine this scenario. The only reason you don-t quit now is because you don-t see the long term effects of what its doing to your body.

I smoked when i was younger for about 10 years, i gave up over night, no patch, no help. I just made a desicion and stuck with it. And if you happen to have friends that smoke that keep offering you cigarettes, ask them to respect your desicion or stay away.
You-ve just got to be hard as nails about it - it really is a tough nut to crack.

Decide to stop, then stop. Avoid the pub, the pint, the smoking mates etc. Anything you associate with fags at least for 3 weeks.

Don-t replace them with food or anything else. Go swimming, go to the gym, get a bike - anything active and you won-t put on weight, you-ll just feel ace and positive and put an extra 20 years on your life.

If you can do this then in 3 years time you will be fit, healthy, strong and relaxed.

Oh, and you won-t die a painful death. (Not from smoking anyway...)

Good luck.

Whats the best way to quit smoking? -

I-ve tried a prescription b4, but it felt like it was changin- my personality, so i stopped. and since my sister died from takin- an acne medication, they all scare me now. i-ve also tried the inhaler, cutting down, and cold turkey. i really wanna quit, but the willpower-s not there. i wish there was sumthing that would instantly make me think cigarettes r the nastiest things ever.....lol
Cold turkey. It takes willpower, but it-s possible. I-m living proof.
If the will power is not there, then nothing is going to work. I quit cold turkey when I found out I was pregnant with my son, I didn-t want to but I had to for his health. It was the worst 2 weeks of my life but after the 2 weeks I noticed the cravings were going away and I didn-t need that cigarette at lunch. I won-t lie, when I smell a cigarette, I want one. But I won-t because quiting was one of the hardest things I-ve done and I don-t want to have to quit smoking again. I have heard that the more times you try to quit and fail, the harder it becomes to quit. So before you try to quit make sure the willpower is there and goodluck!!! You can do it!!!
Perhaps it would help to think of smoking as a form of slavery.

In essence you are making money for the people that sell you cigarettes and you don-t have the ability to say no, and one of the definitions of slavery is being in bondage to someone.

Also:

My father died from cigarette smoking and my sister is probably going to do the same. One of the ways I am dealing with the grief is kicking cigarette butts off the sidewalk, and into the sewers if they are near them, as a I walk down streets.

I-ve been told by many smokers that the butts and empty packs that litter the streets act as advertisements for the cigarette companies. Smokers says that if you walk on a butt free street they are less likely to light up, so I-m -kicking butts- in my Dad-s and Sister-s names. -Kicking butts- might help you quit.
To help you quit smoking, you need products that help provide nicotine craving relief and lessen the withdrawal symptons. There are some herbal products that work really well. I-ve heard that hypnosis also works effectively for most people. You can read more about it on

Smoking is not only bad for the health, but bad for the skin as well. Take actions today to quit smoking!
Chantix is pretty close. There-s also Wellbutrin/Zyban and nicotine replacement like the Commit lozenges, in decreasing order of effectiveness. So not sure which drug you tried, but as you can see there are others. See your doctor.
Try that gum - nicotene gum I think it-s called. Or my uncle used those little patches you stick on your skin and it gives you small doses of nicotene. It worked for them and it-s risk free I think you should check it out.

The unspoken negative side effects to quitting smoking? -

I am 22 years old and have been smoking for 6 years. 3 weeks ago I decided to quit and am now kept up the entire night by incessant coughing. I cough all day and all night and it hurts my throat too. My chest feels a bit tight and sometimes I generally feel quite wheezy. It is definitely not a cold as there are no other symptoms. Are these normal symptoms of giving up smoking? And if so, what can I do to ease them?
Yes. It is your lungs clearing out all the crap left in there by the smoke. Some OTC cough medicine should help. When my father-in-law quit, he coughed for quite some time. (He was much older than you.)

It-s possible, however, that it is unrelated. It sounds almost like bronchitis. If it doesn-t clear up in a couple of days, I would see a doctor.
Maybe your cough and chest tightening are the effects of your prolonged smoking that has manifested only now. Withdrawal symptoms when you stop smoking include restlessness, fatigue, dizziness, irritability and heavy perspiration. Some people may also experience diarrhea, constipation and headaches. It’s important to remember that much of what you may be feeling is the nicotine withdrawal talking. It would be best if you see a doctor to help you with your problem. It’s important to keep a positive attitude throughout your journey to stop smoking for good.
i smoked for over 50 years and quit only to have the same problem you have.unforunitally i ended up with copd, smoking was covering it up with the cough. you can try to prop up with pillows but if that doesn-t work i-d go see my dr to make sure that your lungs are clear.

My dad quit smoking (for the second time) and hes been somewhat irritable/depressed. Is this normal? -

I want to be there for my dad as much as possible while he-s going through this process. Is it normal for him to be a little depressed and irritable? What can I do to help him feel better other than prayer?
Saying a prayer for him is about the best thing you can do. Maybe get him some gum or hard candy. Popcorn for him at night. Just try to be understanding and that is the best you can do. You are a very good daughter. When one stops smoking it takes a while to get out of their system and then they will be fine and not even miss it. I wish you and your dad good luck and i hope he manages to quit this time.
It-s perfectly normal. Nicotine is a drug and withdrawl from a drug makes people irritable. Give him time and just ask if there-s anything you can do to make him more comfortable.
yes nicotine withdrawels is rough. he needs all the support you can give,be there for him talk do things to help keep his mind off smoking. the Lord will bless you for it.
Yes it can be normal while he is going thru nicotine withdrawal. there are some things that can help minimize the symptoms. I myself used that -smoke away- product and it seemd to work for me...it did not work for my dad, but then again he really was not in the right mindset to quit.

Take comfort in knowing that it is only temporary. Once he gets the nicotine out of his system he will be fine. I quit over 3 yrs ago and have not had a craving after the 1st month.

Tell him to keep it up and that you are proud of him.....
Have him ask his doctor for Wellbutrin he takes it twice a day while he is in withdrawal it takes the edge off his irritability and depression. It really worked with my guy who smoked 20years and had tried twice once cold turkey and the other time with the patch. The patch and Wellbutrin did it for him, smoke free for 6 years now!
When my dad quit smoking it was like walking on egg shells around the house. Yes it is normal for some people to be irritable. The best thing is that my dad lived a while longer and got to see his grand kids grow up a bit. Whatever you can do to encourage him will be worth it in years added to your dad-s life.

What to do? Tell him you are proud he is trying again and encourage him to buy something with the money he is saving!
YES

How can I help my husband to quit smoking? -

I know he really wants to. Its the biggest struggle for him though.

All of his friends and everyone around him smokes so it makes it even harder for him.
I smoked for more than 12 years and quit 20 years ago. My wife helped me a lot, showing me very politely than she didn-t like the smell all over the house, our clothes, my mouth, my skin and so on. There was a night when everything happened that I-ll never forget: I told her, -now I-ll really quit smoking-, and I toke my lighter, my cigarette package and through them away by the window of our apartment, when she told me: DON-T FOOL YOURSELF, GO DOWN, TAKE THEM BACK AND SAVE YOUR MONEY, BECAUSE TOMORROW YOU-LL BE SMOKING AGAIN, AS YOU DID MANY OTHER TIMES. Those words were the key for me to take it as a challenge, and I thought to myself, -smoking can-t be stronger than I-, and since that night I never smoke again. The first days were like a storm, really very hard but I did it. I began to run at the same week and I became a marathoner, running, training and competing as can be seeing in the wall of my office, full of medals and trophies.
I think you can help him a lot, but he must be the one to take the decision. Together you can do it.
Good luck.
Don-t nag him or remind him. Don-t preach either. Just be supportive and positive when he can go a day without smoking or can cut down successfully. And don-t pile all your problems on him the minute he comes home. Try and keep the stress off him if at all possible. Good Luck to you guys. Just tell him you know he can do it.
you can-t help him . he can only help himself. keep up plenty of love and caring after all you must-ve married a smoker and to put stress on him could be a quicker killer

Is thier nother way to quit smoking without taking meds? -

i need to stop smoking i have been smoking for 2 years now can some help me to learn how to quit with out taking med.
Set a date to quit. Tell your friends, family and coworkers you-re quitting. Ask for their support. Enjoy your very last cigarette and never buy another pack again. Avoid smokers, avoid the places you used to smoke. Then enjoy your new voice, your new fresh scent, and your lack of a cough. Make the commitment and it will happen.
Nicotine addiction is one of the hardest to break but it can be done. There are many books and support groups available to help you. Total absence is required. There are with drawl symptoms associated with stopping but they will eventually pass. Have you ever heard of nicotine-anonymous? I have included a link for you to check out. Why not give it a try.
Yeah, just quit outright. I told my boyfriend I didn-t like it. He stopped buying fags, he quit. He was on nearly 60 a day, and had been for 8 years.
stop buying them.

What are normal Quit Smoking Symptoms after 4 months? -

I am 31 years old and after smoking for 17 years, I quit 4 months ago. Since then, I have had a sore throat, horseness, and it is very hard to breathe. I never had a problem with any of this before quitting. When does this end and is it normal?
Enzyme PhytoNutrient (EPN) complex is a patent-pending Enzyme PhytoNutrient from a plant source that provides Enzyme and saccharides necessary for optimal cellular communication. No combination of vitamins, minerals, amino acids or herbals can replace the necessary saccharides found in EPN. We believe that EPN will provide total Enzyme Supplementation.
Protein and carbohydrates are chief components of the human body. For all of history, food has provided these building blocks; however, scientists are still learning the functions that specific nutritional food components play in this process. As recently as this century, benefits of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and phytochemicals were discovered.
Enzyme-PhytoNutrients have been demonstrated to be effective in supporting the immune system. Studies were conducted to determine what the effects of PhytoNutrient dietary supplementation had on a variety of infections.
There is evidence to suggest the PhytoNutrients molecules mediate most of the communication that occurs between the 100 trillion or so cells of the human body. Incomplete or poorly formed PhytoNutrient molecules can result in defective cell messages, which may have implications for immunity. Breast-fed infants are known to have an increased resistance to middle ear infections as well as other childhood illnesses. While human milk contains high concentrations of PhytoNutrients, animal milks vary in the combinations and amounts present. PhytoNutrients have been tested in:

EPN is created through a unique, fourteen-day process. Because this manufacturing process resembles human digestion, soy seeds are completely assimilated into basic nutrients and natural sweeteners. Through this proprietary process, nutrient enzymes are produced along with a phyto-sweetener resembling human colostrum (found in mother’s breast milk). Therefore, EPN is an all-in-one combination of healthful enzymes and a phyto-sweetener. Due to the fact that the creation process is digestive in nature, there is no residual, unassimilated soy matter remaining.

Also look at iron on the same page. Wait until you reach 6 months and everything goes away.

These aren-t withdrawal symptoms. You should see a doctor.

I FINALLY quit smoking! I started smoking in 8th grade and I kept on till just recently and I-m now 24yrs old. What helped me was smoking really, really gross cheap smokes! Get the ones that look like little cigars and smoke those, they will make you quit fast I promise, that is why I quit! Good luck!
I tried quitting for 25 yrs before I finally did. The reason I quit was because I had chronic bronchitis which had stopped responding to medication. One day I decided I wanted to be healthy (I was pretty sick) more than I wanted to smoke. I quit cold turkey in 1989 - haven-t had a cigarette since.
keep trying it is very hard you will fail a few times but you will eventually succeed if you can make it a week or two without smoking you have it licked but you will still get the urge to smoke for quite a while actually I still get them and I havent smoked in 2 years I am pretty sure it-s like alcoholism once addicted always addicted but that doesn-t mean you can-t quit it just takes persistance and will power
The time that I quit for 4 yrs (yes, I-ve started again since like a dumba**), I chewed gum, and it helped tremendously. Just any kind of gum, it will help keep your mind off it, and keep your mouth busy, and fresh. That-s what helped me the most. Also, take deep breaths, and just notice how good it feels to actually breathe fresh air. Yoga might also help.
Hi,

If you realy wants to quit smoking then you should know some facts.

This is for your information pl. that Cigarette smoking kills nearly about 420,000 people a year, making it more lethal than AIDS, accidents, homicides, suicides, drug overdoses, and fire.

The main risks of smoking are

1. Heart disease
2. Cancer
3. Dementia and neurologic diseases
4. Lung disease
5. Female infertility and pregnancy
6. Male sexuality and reproduction
7. Behavioural and Social Problems
8. Effects on bones and joints

The methods to quit smoking are

At this time the most effective methods for quitting is a combination of nicotine replacement products and the antidepressant drug bupropion bolstered by counselling.

1. Nicotine replacement

Nicotine replacement products provide low doses of nicotine that do not contain the contaminants found in smoke. They are proving to be twice as helpful as other standard quitting methods. Replacement products include nicotine patches, gums, nasal sprays, and inhalers. Side effects of any nicotine replacement product may include headaches, nausea, and other gastrointestinal problems. People often experience sleeplessness in the first few days, particularly with the patch, but the insomnia usually passes. Patients using very high doses are more likely to experience symptoms, and reducing the dose can prevent them. Certain individuals like people with heart disease, pregnant women, small children may need to avoid nicotine replacement products.

Nicotine patches: Nicotine patches, or transdermal nicotine, can be an effective way to quit smoking. The quit rate for patch users is around 20% after six months. Nicotine patches are available over the counter, but it is best to consult a doctor before using them, particularly people with any medical problems.

Nicotine gum: Nicotine gum (Nicorette), available over the counter, has also been effective for a number of people. Some prefer it to the patch because they can control the nicotine dosage and chewing satisfies the oral urge. Long-term dependence may be a problem with this method.

Nicotine inhaler: The nicotine inhaler resembles a plastic cigarette holder. It comes with a number of nicotine cartridges which are inserted into the inhaler. It has some specific advantages over other slower nicotine replacement products:

Nicotine nasal spray: The nasal spray satisfies immediate cravings by providing doses of nicotine rapidly, and thus may play a useful role in conjunction with slower acting nicotine replacement therapies.

Nicotine tablet: A nicotine tablet that is held under the tongue is also very useful.

2. Alternative and ther Methods for Quitting

Scheduled reduction: One study showed that people who used a systematic withdrawal schedule were twice as likely to quit as those who went cold turkey. The procedure involves the following steps:

Divide the number of minutes per day awake by the number of daily cigarettes; the result is the minute-long wait between smokes.

Set up a schedule with time intervals based on this result and using a timer, smoke only at those intervals; if the -cigarette appointment- is missed by more than five minutes, the smoker must skip that cigarette.

The following week, one-third fewer cigarettes are used and the smoking time is recalculated based on the lower number.

During the third week the count is again reduced by a third, and the smoker quits in the fourth week.
Change daily habits:

Change the daily schedule as much as possible. Eat at different times or eat many small meals instead of three large ones, sit in a different chair, rearrange the furniture.

Find other ways to close a meal. Play a tape or CD, eat a piece of fruit, get up and make a phone call, or take a walk (a good distraction that burns calories as well).

Substitute oral habits (eat celery, chew sugarless gum, suck on a cinnamon stick.) Go to public places and restaurants where smoking is prohibited or restricted.

Set short-term quitting goals and reward yourself when they are met, or every day put the money normally spent on cigarettes in a jar and buy something pleasurable at the end of a predetermined period of time.

Find activities that focus the hands and mind but are not taxing or fattening: computer games, solitaire, knitting, sewing, whittling, crossword puzzles.

Avoid heavy drinking of alcohol, caffeine, or other stimulants or mood altering substances.

i am trying to quit too, it sucks. i like the niccorette fruit chill gum, it helps a lot. my mom tried chantix and it worked great for her, she quit in less than a month after smoking for almost 30 years. i wish you the best of luck and don-t kick yourself for slipping up, it is very hard to quit. just keep with it and you will do it eventually.
First off, you are NOT weak. But if you keep telling yourself that, you-re bound to believe it.
Drink water... even better from a bottle. Your body needs help detoxing, and your mind wants hand to mouth.
Remember that cravings only last 2 minutes tops, and they get easier and less day by day. Breathe through those 2 minutes and you-ve waged war against a difficult battle that you can and will win!
Lastly, I-m going to give you a site that I used every flippin day when I quit. (its free too which is a huge bonus!). Whenever I thought I-d cave to crave, I-d log in to get back to my senses. It gives advice, tips and support... all day and all night. Use it.

You can do this.... believe it.
Just see a picture of damage lungs by cigarrette....i-m pretty sure you will quit smoking definitely.
Do it for your health!!! No body gonna take care of you better than yourself.

Can you give me a list of reasons I should quit smoking? -

I really want to quit but I am missing a motivating factor to stop, I think it might help to hear a list of the cons.
1.it can kill you
2.lung cancer
3.it can make u look older than u are
4.ur hair will smell
5.ur breath will smell
6.ur teeth willl turn yellow
should i go on.....
If you care more about health, think about:

cancer
emphysema
etc

If you care more about beauty right now, think about:

you will get more wrinkles in general
you will get more of those tiny wrinkles around your mouth
you will stink all over

I was surprised after I quit smoking (smoked for 10 years), how much people who smoked just stunk in general. It smelled bad just to be next to them. Think about all of the people you are offending with your bad smell. Some people you wouldn-t care about, but if you are talking about a love interest, maybe you-d care about that.

You also do damage to anyone you care about who happens to be around your smoke. That was a big factor for me to quit.
There isn-t a positive thing about smoking everything about smoking is gross!!!

* Cigarette smoke leaves an after smell on everything around you: your clothes, car and home.
* You may not be able to breathe properly.
* A nagging cough may bother you day and night.
* You may suffer from severe headaches and even occasional migraines.
* A feeling of dizziness after smoking cigarettes too fast or after having too many of them is very common.
* Cigarettes may leave you flaunting yellow skin, teeth and fingernails.
* You may have lot of phlegm, which may force you to clear your voice continuously and may even make you lose your voice in middle of a sentence.
* You may suffer from increased rate of hypertension.
* A feeling of inadequacy and substance dependence may take you over.
* Suffering from nausea after too much of smoking is common.
* You may feel anxiety and no relaxation throughout the day.
* You may lack motivation as well as the energy to do anything.
* The sense of smell and taste may diminish.
* Smoking is wastage of your hard earned money and health.
* You may also suffer from lingering colds and bronchitis.
2nd Corinthians 7:1 states: -Therefore, since we have these promises, beloved ones, let us cleanse ourselves of every defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in God’s fear.-

1st Peter 2:11 states: -Beloved, I exhort YOU as aliens and temporary residents to keep abstaining from fleshly desires, which are the very ones that carry on a conflict against the soul.-

I know you have asked questions about what the Bible says, so I figured I would share these scriptures in hopes you look them up yourself and keep them as a reminder.

Since smoking defiles your lungs, throat, teeth and breath it definitely defiles the entire body when the bad air goes into your blood stream.

Enough said.
I think this is one of your best decisions. You must know what are the advantages of quitting:

This will keep you motivated throughout. My friend was chain smoker and he quit. He use to say, just be mentally strong and you can do it. Here are some tips that helped him:

http://www.knowabouthealth.com/8-easy-ti…

I am on day 6 of my Quit smoking programme. And yes motivation from cons/damages is key so for me (and I-m an addictions counsellor!!! and its tough). Here are are my reasons:
1. Freedom from constant fear that I-ll get the lung disease my mother died from (smoking related) - she died prematurely.
2. Thus, longer life.
3. Longer time to love my kids (I felt robbed when she died prematurely)
4. I have so much to still accomplish with my life - life legacy to leave behind
5. Saving money - Lots - from health hazards, indirect costs etc.
6. Shame - I-m 52 and still I hate to smoke in front of my kids (bad example to them as I used to be an ultra-marathon runner!!! Does that make any sense? It-s the insanity of an addiction). So...
7. Return to sanity and serenity (I live with a low grade agitation/impatience since I started years ago)
8 to 100. Sure there are plenty more. What are yours?
It can Kill You. And if THAT isn-t -Reason- enough to quit indulging in a Bad Habit- 999 other ones are not going to do the -trick-- either. Stop making up -excuses-- - DO it. Or ONE of these years you-re going to end up on a -List- of your OWN. -The Obituary List in the back of your Local Newspaper ! :o So take the -hint-, - good luck. :)
1. you-ll probably die if you smoke too much
2. you-ll lower your life expectency
3. who wants to date a smelly smoker?
4. there are over 200 posionous things in a cigar that include rat poison
5. you think it looks cool? ignore the commercial and go to a hospital. You-ll definitely find a smoker in there with their skin shriveled and their lungs broken
6. kiss your lungs goodbye
7. tar sinks into your lungs and if you smke for 4 years it can fill a pint (4 cups :o)
8. It-s expensive
9. if you smoke, you choke
10. because there are so many ways to look cool in front of your friends without having to resort to suicide and failure
It looks super gross
it can kill you
torture you with cancer
your lungs turn black
you can get asthma
it-s addicting
it is expensive
filthy habit
unfashionable
bad influence
makes you look trashy
you will be degraded and looked down upon
it is uncomfortable for others
it can make others sick as well
it-s downright inconvienient.
you can DIE of cancer, you may think oh no biggy nut cancer is horrible to go through. It-s just stupid, your shortening your life every time. You know you shhould ju8st quit if you love your self, and be healthy. Not only that but your teeth will be yellow. Your fingers will look yuck after smoking so much. and much much more but if you wanna live more an look beautiful QUIT! and if not, its your life.
- Leaves you with no money
- Bad Breath
-Rotten teeth/Yellow teeth
- Leaved thick tar in your throat
- F**ks your lungs up
- Makes you smell
- It would hurt your loved ones to know that you got cancer from smoking :|.
- Heart attacks
- Die younger
- Make you unhealthy

P.s. im a smoker and im only 15:( i now regret starting :|
hope i helped anyway xx
people that care about you want to see you healthy and happy.
Food will taste better
Sex will feel better
your sense of smell will improve.
Your clothes wont smell
your car wont smell
you-ll save tons of money
health insurance would be cheaper, matter of fact, most all insurance would be.
1.LUNG CANCER!!!!!
2.skin decay.
3.bad teeth.
4.make you look ugly!
5.hair loss.
5.You will start to smell.
6.lung ulcers.
7.heart attack.
8.you could lite your house on fire.
9. when you get older there is a chance you could die from suffixation because you could start coughing up pieces of your lungs!!!!!

Shall i go on???

It will kill you is all you should need to hear.

but if you want more, you save money, you won-t smell like cigarettes, you will look younger(smoking causes wrinkles), your food may taste better, you will probably have more energy.
It can give you lung cancer.
It makes your hair and clothes smell bad.
It will eventually turn your teeth yellow.
You-ll be spending tens of thousands of dollars on cigarettes over a life-time.
Some people find smoking to be a turn-off.
U Can die a slow death

no one will want to be around you
second hand smoking and it may not hurt u but can kill someone who inhales to much of the smoke because of u
u can get cancer:
mouth cancer

ur voice will sound old and nasty
u will age faster
you get cancer you smell nasty you could die your teeth turn yellow and you look much older and many people think its nasty and repulsive because it smells bad and you save money and many many more things i cant think of right know
DEATH. Painful cancer. Bad breath. Getting rained on. Overpaying for death sticks. Costing the rest of us a fortune in insurance costs because you are electing to kill yourself.
1. some people find smoking a major turn off
2. expensive
3. ur family will be sad if you die (hopefully lol)
4. bad influence on children
5. you-ll look like crap
you start getting yellow stains every ware

U will die
U will look ugly
Your heart will decay

Do you think the cigerette companies should have to pay for all the expensive quit smoking products? -

If you decided to quit? I see them suing tobacco companies and then using the money for schools??? I mean wouldn-t it be better if they helped those they hurt, instead of sending money to places that have nothing to do with cigarettes.
Might not have to worry about that pretty soon ! The Phillip Morris factory in North Carolina just announced it will be closing with a loss of 3,000 jobs. They are going to Europe . Guess where the liberals will make up that TAX LOSS , keep an eye on your paycheck ??Be kinda` funny , smokers will still smoke , and they will be buying a European cigarette , and all that TAX revenue will go to Europe. Go figure ...
Short answer: no.

Long answer: It has been well known for decades that smoking is bad for you. Back in the 1950, one of the first articles showing that smoking causes cancer came out. In my entire life, I don-t recall a time when -smoking is bad for you- wasn-t a FACT.

I-m in my 30-s.

So that means that everyone under...say...40 or 45 has known this their entire life. And let-s say that people start smoking at the age of 10 (an aggressive number, I think). That would mean that everyone under 50 or 55 knew smoking was bad for them when they started. People started suing in 1954!

I think the tobbacco companies have done their share at this point. There was a large cash settelement. They actually pay for those cool -truth- commercials you see on TV...(oh, and cigarette commercials are no longer allowed on TV)

And how much money can you sue them for before they say they-re bankrupt and walk away? (Note: government doesn-t want this--ever SEE how much $$ cigarettes get taxed?!?!?)

And if I mis-read your question...maybe you were asking if money is being sent to the wrong place. Unfortunately, that happens all the time. They said the tax $$ from the lottery and gambling was to go to schools. Hasn-t happened like that either.
No, no one put a gun to your head to make you smoke. If you get cancer from gasoline, will you sue BP?
Yes, but then why are tobaco farmers still paid subsities, and why do they spend all the money just telling you to quit and offering free advice, not really doing anything except using the law suit settlments as advertising.

What is the best Quit Smoking Book? Has anyone tried the Tao of Quitting Smoking: A spiritual Approach? -

I am an M.D and there are situations in which I can-t use the pharmacological approach to quitting. Some have had medication interactions while others simply did not want to add another prescription to their long list of medication. Then I have had patients that were eager to try the patch, Zyban, Clonidine, and or Chantix, but it would worked for about 6 months but when things went wrong in their life, they went back to smoking. Smoking cessation groups, and or psychotherapy can be problematic especially if their insurance won-t cover the sessions. I heard recently about Joe Weaver-s book the Tao of Quitting Smoking and how it is a spiritual approach to quitting. Has anyone read it. Now, of course I know there is no magic book that works for everyone. I have recommended Allen Carr-s book, with not go within: Mind, Body, and Spirit. I have recommended Mr. Weaver-s book and have had 1 success for 1.5 years. Looking for other books that you have read, which take a spiritual approach.
I was one of those people, who DID NOT WANT to use medications to quit and I used the book the -Tao of quitting smoking.- I have been smoke free for three years. I have recommended the book to friends and one didn-t follow the book assignments and went back to smoking, but all of those, who followed the book-s instructions have stayed Nicotine Free. The book teaches you how to take back the control and go inward. The book is now common with those into fashion and the model business. I first heard about it from my meditation teacher. The book has a buddhist approach.

Sad thing is that it can only be ordered through special order at the bookstores. I met Joe Weaver, at a book signing in Beverly Hills and I have thanked him for helping me and my husband quit. Joe self-published the book. Joe Weaver was working on his RN degree at the time, and stated he didn-t have a lot of time to advertise and do promotions for the book, but he stated in 2008, he will begin to write the 2rd. edition, to the Tao of Quitting smoking. He is the new younger Allen Carr with a more holistic approach. The book is also medical based, so you being a doctor, should have enjoyed reading it. Some parts were too medical for me, but all in all it helped me quit and never go back.
I am so happy to see an MD posting here. Have you looked into EFT at all? I-ll give the website below. I have only just begun to teach it, but I-ve had 100% success so far with smokers. Over a larger population, I-m told the success rate is more like 75% but I-ve been elated to see how great it does work. You should check it out. I know a lot of people wrinkle their brow when it comes to the idea of energy work. But if you think about it more as a distractive measure, and then see that it really does give relief from the anxiety that is being medicated with the tobacco, it makes sense. Really though, my experience has been just to go with it and not to analyze the -why- so much, as long as it is working. Compliance with a technique like this might be a problem, but if the smoker is really committed, it should be not too hard to overcome. Like I said, the smokers I have seen with my own eyes that have tried it have all been successful on their first attempt quitting this way, and with only limited physical withdrawal. BTW, the manual is free along with a lot of case studies you can find on the site.
I have quit with the Tao of Quitting Smoking and have been free of Nicotine for two years. It-s a great book. I realized that I was totally addicted to Nicotine and I also realized that I smoked because it calmed me, so I just learned a more productive way to relax than through Nicotine. Joe Weaver-s book helped me realize this.
i wasn-t even planning on quitting, but read this book and have not smoked since. simply amazing! no withdrawals at all.

today at 7pm will be 7 days since i have not had a Cigarette but on Monday about 12 noon i started the patch and this withdrawl really sucks. symptoms are horrible, how are you coping?
I-m going on about 5 months now, just remember to keep your eye on the ball. When I start to loose focus, I take a deep breath and think of how I was unable to do that without coughing when I was a smoker.
I have just finished Alan Carr-s book and have a dentist apt next week,so that is my date to quit.Congratulations to you and I wish you the best of luck,I am dreading it myself but it needs to be done. How long was you smoking for?
hang in there im getting ready to quit myself and i know it is going to suuuuuuck but the benefits of not smoking outweigh smoking
Good for you! Go to about.com--they have a section on quitting smoking and dealing with withdrawal. You can read onsite, or you can request they email you their newsletters.
Excellent! Good for you, yeah! I think that is just great!
I didn-t just quit smoking, but I smoked for about 15 years and then quit. Wow was it hard, but when you want to, you can. You have to want to, and it sounds like you do! Do you find yourself with more energy by any chance? lol
I quit, and then decided instead of sitting around eating that I better do something else, so I started walking, running type of thing. Well this led to that, and boy did I feel better, better than I ever did! Now I-m a trainer/fitness director for 14 years, and it all started because I quit smoking. You go for it, and know you are great for kicking it! You-re going to feel so much better botth physically and emotionally. Just keep going one day at a time and keep your focus! You can do it!
