Any suggestions on how to quit smoking? -

I have smoked since I was 15. I am now 28 and keep trying to quit with no success. I smoke with the patches on, the gum is nasty. I have heard about this drug Chantiz. Does it work? How much will it run a person without insurance? I desperately want to quit I just need a magic pill that causes me to wake up and forget I ever smoked. LOL Any help is greatly appreciated.
I have smoked for 20 yrs.....1-2 packs a day.....I tried the patches, the gum and various other things that were guaranteed to work..lol...

I started Chantix a week ago and so far so good...cravings have gone down significantly and I do not want to kill everyone that talks to me.

I work in a Dr-s office and have seen alot of success with Chantix....it is expensive if you have no insurance...however there is the -Connection to Care program- where you can get them from the manufacture at no cost depending on your income. Go to Pfizer.com and it will give you the details.

Good luck
You may want to try the flavored gum. I buy mine on ebay from a seller DOGPARLOR. I buy the 4mg fruit flavored Habitrol gum. It-s much cheaper on Ebay. As we both know, quiting is hard, and it-s a mind set we get in, that we have to have that cigarette. I really don-t think it-s the nicotine that-s hard to quit, but the habit of having that cigarette in your hand and mouth. I wish there was a magic pill, but our mind is really our only pill to get us to quit smoking. Just one day at a time. I-ve quit smoking for 5 years now, but I-m still on the gum, which I think it-s better than smoking. You-ll get use to the flavor after a while .
I began smoking at the age of 15 and finally quit for good at the age of 57 (a year ago), when I was at a pack a day. Even tho- all the experts say you have to go cold turkey, I think that just increases the craving. This is how I did it. Everytime I wanted a cigarette, I only smoked half of it. So, I immediately cut my intake in half. After a few weeks of doing that (gives your body time to adjust to less nicotine), I would only take about 4 puffs, put it out and save it for the next craving. After a few weeks of that, I went to 2 puffs, then one puff (where one cigarette could last me a day or two). My body gradually got used to doing without the nicotine and I got to a point where I said, -when this pack is done, I-m not buying anymore-. That was a year ago. Recently, I stayed with my son, who smokes, and took a drag off his cigarette. I didn-t like the taste and it hurt my throat. If I can do it, you can do it, because I loved smoking!!!
Just stop. You have to choose not to smoke everytime you get the urge.
You just have to really commit and get rid of the smokes. Your will power can get you through.
stop buyiing them for one.... hypnosis... -- cant spell but you know. ive never smoked. oh. you can start putting the money that you use to buy smokes. in a jar. at the end of the year youll have about 2000 bucks or more. then you could buy ... what a down payment on a nice tv.. or a car.
If all else fails enter the Big Brother house. (like audition for it) You definitely can-t smoke in there.
all my dad did was threw them away and chewed gum :)
Think about it like this, if you went to the Dr today and he told you, -if you smoke one more cigarette, you will die-. What would you do?

Okay so every morning when you wake up, imagine this scenario. The only reason you don-t quit now is because you don-t see the long term effects of what its doing to your body.

I smoked when i was younger for about 10 years, i gave up over night, no patch, no help. I just made a desicion and stuck with it. And if you happen to have friends that smoke that keep offering you cigarettes, ask them to respect your desicion or stay away.
You-ve just got to be hard as nails about it - it really is a tough nut to crack.

Decide to stop, then stop. Avoid the pub, the pint, the smoking mates etc. Anything you associate with fags at least for 3 weeks.

Don-t replace them with food or anything else. Go swimming, go to the gym, get a bike - anything active and you won-t put on weight, you-ll just feel ace and positive and put an extra 20 years on your life.

If you can do this then in 3 years time you will be fit, healthy, strong and relaxed.

Oh, and you won-t die a painful death. (Not from smoking anyway...)

Good luck.
Perhaps you could investigate a web search for -nicorette activestop-.
