Anyone one that has taken champix to quit smoking? -

I was wondering when you fininsh the whole oarse do the withdrawal symptons come back.I have been taking champix for 6 weeks - been smoke feel for 5 weeks.
Yes it works. I quit smoking for 6 months and started back like an idiot. You really need to stay on it for at least 3 months according to my doctor.
Good Luck! Don-t start back like I did!
I-m not sure if you mean CHANTIX or not but that is what I-ve been using and have been smoke free for two months with no withdraw symtoms at all.Good Luck!!

im trying to quit smoking, im 17 weeks pregnant and i really really want to quit. my mom told me to go to a website that will help me quit, but when i put the website in it took me to another site. anyone know what website it is that has a pregnant woman on the home page?
I-m sorry I don-t know the site you are talking about, but I did just want to suggest Easyway -
http://allencarr.com
- no willpower required, no cravings or withdrawl, and it-s 90% effective...seriously, if you can-t get to one of their clinics try getting a book on Easway as it works just as well and it only costs a few $-s.
Pregnant ladies, using of any quit smoking aids will give negative effects. So use quit smoking aids later with doctor consultation.

I suggest using quit smoking drug. You can find full information at:
http://www.quit-smoking-drug.com/
and they are also offering free doctor consultation.

Take care,

All the best...

first you have to not enjoy smoking anymore. its easier if you despise cigarettes. then keep yourself busy, especially your hands.
go to phillip morris USA
The easy way.

Buy the book call The Easyway to Stop Smoking by Allen Carr on amazon.com/ebay.com/most book stores and their websites and TAKE THE WORDS IN THE BOOK TO HEART! You-ll quit. It worked for me. Good luck! Get off the weed.
The patch.
The gum.
Acupuncture.
Hypnosis.
The stop smoking pill.
Support groups.
Get a plan and stick to it. whatever it takes.
Good luck.
(the patch works for me. The gum works well too.)
If the realization that its killing you isnt enough - then nothing.
just join rehabilitation camp
I see that around me all the time, a man coughing his lungs out and puffing a cigarette. When I see them cough not smoking I tell them they need another cigarette. If you want to die sooner what can we tell you that you don-t know?
patch? gum? grow a backbone?
Acupuncture, definitely.

It will help you stop the addiction as well as help you to balance out your body systems and help you feel better as well.
well, if you don-t quit smoking -- this will speed things up and your risk (one of them is death) is higher.

if you want to live a little longer than expected, quit smoking.

I Quit smoking today and I am using the patch! Its kinda makin my arm itchy is this normal? -

Also I have anxiety and I feel like I am going to have a panic attack b/c I want a cig/ so bad! What do I so?
First of all congratulations and KUDOS!!! on quitting. This is probably gonna be the best gift you will ever give yourself. Always keep that in mind and the side effects will seem to nag you less. It-s like 99% will power and just making the effort to quit shows you-ve got a ton.
You might just be a little allergic to the glue on the patch. If you get a rash or something, take it off and ask a doctor for additional methods. When my dad quit smoking and he got anxiety, he chewed gum or listened to music. he didn-t drink coffee though because he said it made him more anxious and nervous. I think that really depends on the person. My mother quit smoking 18 years ago after years of smoking and never once had anxiety attacks. again, I think each person is different. So, my suggestion is stick with it and chew lots of sugar free gum. Oh and orking out helps a lot too. And there are rumors that it helps get rid of anxiety and other reactions more quickley.
It made my arm hurt when I used it so I took it off. But you have a booklet that came with the patch read that for more information.
great job on trying to quit:O) yes its normal its prob not the patch itsself but the addhesive this might help you also to get the nic out of your system drink plenty of fruit juices for the first 3 days it cleans you out and helps cleans you good luck hope it helps
Very normal, and it should subside. Hang in there!

used to smoke 1 pack + a day.
week 1, tried cold turkey, got down to 5 a day
week 2, began using the patch, down to 1-2 a day.
both methods seem to be working their way to 0, however, I am very crabby. i don-t want quitting to have this negative effect on my husband and kids being the butt of my outbursts. how can i avoid/control these?
(no info on smoking w/ patch being dangerous, i am aware, and without it, i wouldn-t have made the progress, thanks please!)
Only willpower..
I smoked many years 2 packs a day and quit cold turkey
on Nov 15, 2001.. but you know what? I still crave a
cigarette.. you just need willpower!

Good Luck

And I-m still grouchy!
Ignore the advice of those who say you need willpower - you don-t - that-s traumatic.

Try using Allen Carr’s Easyway To Stop Smoking. You can buy the book, watch the DVD or attend an Allen Carr Clinic. All Allen Carr therapists have been smokers and have used his method to quit. Providing you have an open mind, you will find this method not only easy but enjoyable. It doesn’t have to be traumatic. Smokers make it hard for themselves because they don’t go about it the right way. Check out the website www.allencarr.com.au to find out more.
You are going through a classic nicotine withdrawal symptom. I have passed through this phase as well. Use a natural remedy to reduce your nicotine withdrawal symptoms, it helped me. For further info go the following source.
yeah, it-s tough, but worth it in the end. I used to just take a walk or in cold weather, just grab a barbell from under the coffee table and take my mood swing out by getting a little exercize. Worked too, to offset the mints I kept eating instead!
I stoped doing exercises...just it ! formulas are for weaks !

You are strong !! (You can′t imagine how...)
The biggest problem with cutting back is that your body is always craving nicotine. If you quit cold turkey, you will have a few miserable days, but it will be over, as opposed to this drawn out cycle.

I quit once for two years and seemed I always wanted a cigarette. This time, I quit on February 18th, and after the first week, I knew I was done. I was a miserable wreck the first week, thank god I am in a long term relationship, not a new one. :)

Eat lots of fresh produce, nibble on raw peppers dipped in ranch, drink a ton of ice water and nibble on the ice cubes and get as much exercise as you have time for. And if you feel yourself getting angry, do not act on it!! It may feel perfectly justified at the time, but get out and take a ten minute walk and most of the time you will see that you were overreacting.

Good luck!!

I jsut quit smoking 2 days so far it-s so good but I feel like I can-t slow down I been moving since 8am I am little light head every now and then I get a little fuzzy eyed but the main thing I can-t slow down is all of this normal how long does it last ty
Congratulations and well done! These feelings are natural and it-s just your body adjusting to more oxygen and nutrient availability and less toxins in your bloodstream. After about three weeks practically all of the residual toxins in your body will be gone (they will have been metabolised). By then your physical condition will have stabilised and you-ll feel much fitter and healthier.
That is normal, my advice hit the bottle and the world will spin for a bit then stop
What you are going through is nicotine withdrawal symptoms. The duration of these symptoms depends upon how much you have been smoking and for how long. You might consider using a natural remedy to reduce the withdrawal symptoms and nicotine craving.
I don-t know how long it lasts.. but I do know you should stick it out.
I did.
It-s tough indeed. Later on you might even feel pain in your body parts (joints, teeth...) which you never felt before when you were still locomoting. But perseverance is the key, and remember the reward awaiting, being fit and healthy!
I support you
I was so glad to hear that you have stopped smoking. My thumbs go way up for you. I know it may be hard but keep going the longer you make it without smoking the easier it will get for you...I promise.I used to smoke and quit more then 9 years ago. Being light headed and moving around is probably normal as your body and mind is missing the nicotine intake. That will slowly fade away and you will feel like a brand new person.Keep up the good work and please don-t ever start smoking again. My dear mother died of cancer due to smoking she suffered horribly until the end.May God bless you.

Any Good Quit Smoking Products? -

Has anyone had any success using quit smoking products?
I personally don-t trust any quit smoking method that deals only with physical nicotine addiction. I tried several times to quit using patches, gums, herbs etc but none of these worked.

Smoking is more of a psychological addiction than a physical one. If you really want to quit you must discover the reasons why you smoke and then eliminate or change these thought processes. As soon as I dealt with my psychological reasons for smoking I quit, first time and more importantly for good.

Quitting smoking does not require any patches, gums, herbs or anything like that. These methods are expensive, time consuming and simply do not work. All that is required is a bit of motivation, self belief and determination. Have faith in yourself and your abilities, if you truly believe you can quit, then you will.

Visit our blog for more information and to download our free book.

Good Luck and Good Quitting

The -gold standard- is to use a product like Zyban or Chantix (need a prescription) along with a behvioral program. Zyban has been shown to be safe to use in conjunction with a nicotine product like the gum, lozenge, patch - this also improves success rates. Both Zyban (Wellbutrin, Bupropion) and Chantix have some risks so it-s important to discuss these with your health care provider. The patch, gum, and lozenge are really great products too and are available over-the-counter. Read more at the site below.
Good luck!
The patch made me jittery and hard to sleep. I quit by cutting the amount I smoked down every two weeks Like 20 to 15 then 10 to5. The last couple of weeks I only had 1 smoke a day. That way made it real easy to quit.4-5 weeks after you quit, you realize how great you feel.
Sometimes Nicotine tablets help people. You can try. They might help you.

I wish you all the best! It-s not easy!
Lisa J
Chantix, works great, but you need a prescription.

How long does nicotine stay in your body after you quit smoking? -

How long does nicotine stay in your body after you quit smoking? -

-Nicotine doesn-t stick around your body for too long. It has a half-life of about 60 minutes, meaning that six hours after a cigarette, only about 0.031 mg of the 1 mg of nicotine you inhaled remains in your body.-
The effects of Nicotine hang around much longer :-)
Nicotine stays in your body for approximately 72 hours after you quit smoking.
it feels like 3-4 days
most of it comes out pretty darn quick however to be compleatly out of your system it takes approx. 72 hours.

I am having a very difficult time trying to quit smoking. I thought it might be helpful to share stories.? -

I am having a very difficult time trying to quit smoking. I thought it might be helpful to share stories.? -

I am sure others have success or failure stories they might like to share, something that might help others and possibly connect with some answer for yourself or loved ones who may be struggling with this addiction For example: Did some tecnique or cessation aid work well for you? I am sure this is a subject that almost everyone has had experience with, either first or second hand; No pun intended.
I chew tobacco and smoke, and have tried quitting many times. I can go 3-6months tobacco free and then start back again ususally because I justify to myself that all of the damage has repaired itself (I know this is stupid reasoning) I have tried most of the products from prescriptions to the patch to the gum but I have found that -cold turkey- is the best. The first few days are very hard, but just take it one second at a time and find something to replace the tobacco such as candy. I have gained weight every time I quit but it comes off. If you get on the patch or something, you will still have to come off nicotine at the end of the program so you are just stalling the process using these aides. The last time I quit I was smoking 2 packs a day and dipping about a can a day so quitting was extremly difficult but I did it without the aides. Quitting is not that hard, it is all mental just drink lots of water to flush out the nicotine. To me the hardest part is staying quit.
After smoking since I was 13 years old, I went to the doctor with severe bronchitis...he said I was on the cusp of emphysema and since I couldn-t get enough breath to smoke right then, I quit as soon as I walked out of his office...I used nicorette gum until the withdrawal was over (1 week) and after that, it was merely changing habits...
I quit smoking, I started when I was 14 and quit when I was 17. Me and my friend, a few years ago, were waiting for a bus and he offered me a cigarette, and I just needed to make something make the time go by quicker so I accepted. Been hooked again ever since.
stories won-t help you act.

make the choice and stick to it

I crave cigarettes when I drink, I want to quit smoking without quitting drinking. Any suggestions? -

Drinking is one of your triggers, so you have to break that trigger, just like some people associate a cup of coffee with a cig, or driving, or break at work etc.
There-s a lot of free info plus a great course to break your habit and the associations you have, here:
http://www.quitguide.com

Chew on a tooth pick or straw.
then when you drink and you smoke, if you don-t feel like smoking then don-t drink.
thats like saying u want to diet but still eat apound of cookie dough it wont work.....but if u realy want to do it u would stop both and i knpw u can do it just try....
When you know these facts, quitting is not that hard anymore.

Smoking will damage blood vessels in the penis and will shorten the penis and ultimately lead to impotence. This is all real. Canada and Australia alread force -Smoking can lead to impotence- label on cigarette box.

I-m trying to quit smoking I-m 18 now and iv been smoking since i was 13 anyone give me any advice how to stop? any good methods I can try to use?
try to use those patches that gradually help. also, i heard that many people use something to compensate for a cigarette. For example, each time a person wanted a cigarette, he put sunflower seeds in his mouth, and just ate them instead. Try that, or something that you will be more comfortable with. I wish you luck, and I am super glad that you decided to kick this bad habit. good for you.
I quit. I-m 42 and I smoked since I was 12. 2 weeks ago I started spitting blood from my right lung. Shortly after I noticed this I started having I hard time breathing. I went to the hospital. I had acute Bronchitis. They told me to quit smoking. I quite cold turkey. The first 3 days were miserable, but then it just got easier and easier. My lungs feel great. I won-t go back.
Ew... thats kind of gross. 13???

Good on you for being clever enough to try quit tho!

google it. look around and get yourself some major will pwer and supportive friends.
The best way to give up is don-t start in the first place!
Chantix seems to be the most effective drug out there. You-ll need a prescription.

I just quit smoking and I am looking for someone in the Tampa Bay area to workout with? -

Anyone interested?
I go jogging on Dunedin causeway 2-3 times a week and want to get a gym membership and start doing sports leagues
U will find the company in the places where u go for workouts.

Eat only when hungry and not more than thrice a day. Nothing other than water in between. Include plenty of uncooked vegetables and fruits in each meal, preferably 50%. Chew each morsel at least 32 times to activate ur body to generate signals of hunger/fullness. Obey these signals.

Take light exercises and brisk walks regularly preferably twice a day.

U will achieve what u have not even dreamt and that too in a reasonable time. Do not be in a hurry.

It could be a panic attack......it could be a warning sign of a stroke or a heart attack. I don-t think giving up cigarettes is the cause for this........maybe all the smoking before.

Anyway, go to the doctors or emergency room if you need to. And congratulations on choosing to give up smoking.
Very limited Info. Such as: How long ago did you quit, what is your age, weight,/height, what does your current diet consist of, and have you checked your blood pressure lately? All these things can be a factor. But Yes, I agree, go to your Physician ASAP.
The two are not connected. You get a craving for the cigs, a tightness of your chest could be a heartattack or something else.
You should go to the doctor if you stll have these symptoms tomorrow.
That may be a symptom of -cold turkey- but I would get checked out by a doctor since chest tightness can also be a symptom of a cardiac disorder.
Part of withdrawal symptoms. but get a complete physical from your doctor. Congrats on quitting the coffin nails.
Go see a doctor just to be sure, but i think its just a drawback from smoking...

Has anyone ever quit smoking weed? has your life changed for the better? -

Sometimes I think smoking weed has made me kinda lazy.
I did and it helped a great deal
Smoking is bad for you weed or cigarettes. Don-t smoke anything.
I lost ambition when I started smoking in high school, but I quit and have changed for the better. Friends that still smoke are practically useless now.
Yes. I quit, and many good things happened. I lost weight pretty fast, I had more energy, Im FINALLY getting my memory back.
my husband got into some legal trouble a while back ad so he had to quit smoking weed....at first he thought it was hard, but he soon learned out of sight, out of mind... it wasnt long before the everyday question of where did I put my keys was no more, all of sudden he could remember where he put things, video games were not as important as they once were, and we dont have a bunch of friends going in and out of our house. Now he smokes only once in a while, and sure enough..when hes stoned hes forgetfull, and content to stay on the couch all day. Hope this insight helps! LOL....
i still do and i am fine..
it helps me out and helps with my depression...
You will fill a lot better. You will so much more energy and you-ll feel better mentally.
It shuts you down, not only do you get lazy, your brain slows down too. I quit smoking 27 years ago and have no regrets. I found there is a world out there other then my room..

Quit and enjoy your life while you can...
I-m 13, and I have no plans to smoke. None at all. If you haven-t quit yet, you should now.

*It makes people fat and lazy (I-m not saying you-re fat)
*It will destroy the body
It can have different effects on defferent people, for some it makes them lazy, others it makes them energetic. If you are a chronic user trying to quit will bring on headaches and sleeplessness.
i am sure it did make you lazy. honestly that is what happens to most people. however i know a lot of ppl that do and hold jobs and families together with out a second thought. i smoke every night after the kids are in bed and i don-t think that i am lazy just need a release is all. happy holidays=)
weed has been nothing but good. been smoking 20 years and have nothing wrong with. not addicted at all and it cured my anxiety depression and has helped me spiritualy. and there are no real health problems, other than getting chest colds more frequently. i also hold down an excellent job.i make 65,000 a year and i am living good
I quit when I bacame a dad in 1987.
It didn-t change anything except I had a few more dollars in my pocket.
I obviously quit while I was pregnant and I was miserable. My Mom gets home from work and hits the gin bottle - I hit my binger after my son goes to bed. I smoke every day and on days that I can-t, I get very anxious. I know it-s all in my head. I do believe, however, in a happy medium. Like not going through a quarter ounce in 4 days....
I don-t smoke and I get the feeling it wouldn-t add to the quality of life.
I smoked from the age of 14 to 29. It has made an incredible difference!! I was a pot head!!!! Now i can think clearly!! It was great while it lasted, but we all have to grow up eventually!! It took me a long time to grow up, don-t be like me, quit now!!!
no
I started smoking in 9th grade and smoked very heavily until about the beginning of 11th...One day I was tired of hearing people talking about quitting so I said fine I-ll quit, watch me...No one believed me,-shut up, dude, you-re gonna crack- after that i discovered i-m really smart but i would-ve never known otherwise...Now I basically get straight a-s but i still smoke a little bit now, just find the right balance and don-t let it rule your life!!
yeah. it was easy, got old after smoking for 2 yrs. stopped 2 and a half yrs. ag0, don-t miss it. my memory became completly clear aferwards. lol. miss the munchies though...sike
It-s not the weed its your character...
Theres nothing wrong with smoking allitle weed...
There is something wrong with being an addict
For sure!
I had a friend who smoked weed once a few years ago. They just finished a joint and then fell asleep behind the wheel of a car. They aren-t dead, but being paralyzed to a bed for life, unable to talk or move...we don-t do much anymore.

You must have better things to do...please quit. PLEASE.
i have mates who smoking weed has made pretty lazy, but one did quit and it did help him at school.
If you are addicted to and it has taken over your life, then yes, by all means quiting would be for the better.
But a little toke every-now and then is nothing to worry about.
back in the 60-70-s I have smoke alot of weird stuff from grass to hash.I quit one day and never went back.Change my life?I would say it was a wake up call.Today there are too many kids and even adults doing worse things. Why waste your life on using anything that hasnt been tested.People die from bad batches every day ,so live long and be wiser.
I stopped smoking. It kept me from doing my studies.
I used to smoke weed alot, now just every once in a while. It never hurt me, I-d much sooner do that than drink. I-ve never seen a mean stoner, but I-ve sure seen alot of mean drunks!! Plus NO hangover with pot!!
Yes and yes. I don-t yet have the drive I used to but I-m getting there. Weed is a poor substitute for real happiness.
If one has hope of Heaven, he does not need to smoke weeds.

In the Beginning God created heavens and earth.
God gives you air to breathe and sunshine to enjoy.
God gives you water to drink and food to eat.
God gives you a wonderful body and sound mind, to live.
God loves you, and you are precious to Him.
Son of God died on the Cross to save us from condemnation.
Jesus’ love is boundless and everlasting.
We have the hope of Heaven through Jesus.
Life therefore has fantastic and glorious future!
(Please must visit: www.spiritlessons.com)
I quit, and it was the best thing ever. More energy, and more $$$ equals better life. And it was super easy for me to quit too, I just stoped one day, and I didn-t even feel withdrawl or Detox pain. Despite what pot heads say on this thing, Weed makes you lazy, despite what you think.
Bang on.

What can I use to help get phlem from my lungs, i have rceently quit smoking.? -

My phlem is comming out very thick and sometimes has threads of blood through it. I am beginning to be concerned, I have very recently had a chest x-ray and it was normal so I do not worry overmuch avout cancer, I just want to increase the reduction of this nasty phlem out of my body. Any help, herbal, over the counter, or just down home advice would be appreciated. thanks Deb M
ya ya, some de-congestant will help. but really, just start to jog, exercise in general will clear your lungs and help to keep you active so you don-t go back to smoking. you-ll notice the difference within a week.
One thing that is the best way: exercise. Go outside and go for a bike ride or a jog. You-ll cough up tons of crap. You could sit in a sauna which loosens the hardened stuff, avoid milk which contributes to mucus formation, and lastly an over the counter chemical drug called Mucinex I-ve heard helps. Congrats on quitting smoking! Keep it up.
Deb, you need to talk to your Doctor and tell him about your problems. He might want to to other tests, if not I am sure there is a prescription to dry up your phlem.
some cough medicines are good.
I also like dimetappe.it works fast.

a home remedy I use is.
.buy Termeric powder and honey.......mix 2 table spoon honey with half tea spoon termeric and swallow 1 tea spoon. ...within few minutes it will begin to clear.
take 2 to 4 times a day......my 4 years old nephew had asthma and his Mom gave her daily.
Hi,

Great post! Quitting smoking was the hardest thing I-ve ever done in my life, and I thought I wasn-t addicted!

Here-s what I tried before finding success: hypnosis, those fake cigaretts, the nicotine patch, and group therapy....none worked.

I finally tried this HERBAL patch I bought 6 months ago on the net. They claim a 97% success rate. Well, it worked! They had a sweet deal which was a free 10 day trial for only $3.95 including shipping (it-s regularly $53 for 10 days)!!

I don-t know if they still have that deal, but it-s worth a try.

Good Luck
Drinking water helps or close your bathroom door and turn the shower on hot and let it steam up to open your chest up.Your lungs are cleaning theirselves out and it will go away. CONGRATULATIONS on quitting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I-d say -Go have that blood checked!- but since you already have no worrying about that unless it gets worse.

Here-s what we do for people in the hospital. It works great.
1. Postural drainage - lay with your body at an angle. Your head at the lowest point in the angle. Gravity helps.

2. Chest percussion - sounds cool. works great. lay on the couch and have someone cup there hand *as if cradling something in it) and hit your back. Not slap you (that would hurt) or bruise you but hard enough it makes a difference. If it makes you start to cough then you are on the right track.

3. Deep breathing and coughing exercises - Take a deep breath inhaling to the count of 3 through your nose. Exhale through your mouth with pursed lips for 7 seconds. This increases the oxygen exchange in your lungs and helps expand the alveoli. Take a few deep breaths. The deep breaths should trigger your cough reflex. Cough deeply.

4. Turn every two hours if possible. This keeps drainage and sputum from settling in the dependent areas of your lungs.

5. As for a vitamin - we don-t use those much in the hospital I work at. vitamin C is supposed to help the immune system. That could help you avoid a stint of pnemonia from all the sputum.

6. If you have to cough - cough! It is good to get that out of your lungs.

7. Drink alot of fluid. It will help to thin the secreations. Also avoid milk and dairy as they may thinken the sputum.
Mucinex is a good over the counter expectorant. Closing the bathroom door and turning the shower on very hot will also help...you don-t have to get in the shower, just breathe the steam. Congratulations on quitting! Good luck!
Your lungs are cleaning themselves. It will stop.

To quit smoking is using the patch the most effective way? Are there other suggestions for a natural method? -

Patches are exspensive..My husband has been told he has Copd.He is only 53 and the doctor wants him to use an inhaler. He is concerned about overeating as he can-t afford to gain.Help please...
Ok. You have some fun times ahead of you. I know NOTHING of the patches but do have experience in the -natural- way.

It will be hard. First off. Do you REALLY WANT to stop smoking? Do you say I -need- to or do you say I REALLY WANT to????? Therein lies the basic answer to you quiting.

Smoking is not just a nicotine habit. You also have a habit of having something in your hand and in your mouth. You have a habit of reaching into your shirt pocket for a cigarettete pack. Then you have a NICOTINE habit. Chew gum. That will keep your mouth busy. Keep a tooth pick or pencil in your hands and/or mouth. That will keep you hands and mouth busy. Put the chewing gum pack in your shirt pocket. The worst times will be after eating. The best times will be when you wake up and don-t have to cough for 10 minutes. The first two weeks will be hardest. From that point on.....it will SLOWLY become easier. Be prepared. It took 5 years for me not to even think about a cigaret when I seen someone else smoking. But each day was easier. Smokes STINK, STINK, STINK along with the people who smoke them. Did you know that? Good Luck. You CAN do it and NEED to do it. Food will taste better than it has in your entire life. Just watch and take it easy on the food. Pops
I used everything under the sun to quit. even the patch. but when I was ready, again, to quit, I did use the patch for a second time, and I have been smoke free for over 2 years. They do work, if you let them. As far as overeating, I bought one of black fuzzy posters that you color with magic markers, and took that out only when I had the urge to smoke. It kept my hands busy, and when the urge past, I set it aside. It took me 2 weeks to finish it, and I did not buy another one. That poster hangs in the livingroom today . Good luck!!
i gained 40 pounds doctor told me the body can handle excess pounds not smoking. zyban - nico gum are helpful.
cold turkey .......
he really has to fight the urges ......

every time my dad wanted one he had an Ice coffee
(in glass mix instant coffee , two teaspoons of sugar, Ice)

He tried it all and this worked for him
welll, put it this way, patches are cheaper than cigarettes, and they do work (got one on now)
Quitting is very hard! I have heard of drinking grapefruit juice, this well help with the withdraw of a cigarette, I am not sure how it works but I heard it is a good help!
make sure you drink LOTS of water for the first week. It will flush the toxins out of your system quicker and make you feel more clear-headed than if you do not drink so much water. Trust me, it made all the difference to me!

Also, brush your teeth after meals to help with the post-eat craving!

Good luck. YOu can do it!

I quit smoking and I want to detox my body of all the nastys ,Anybody? -

you could buy a body detox kit from your local drug store or chemist!
I am actually doing a detox type of -diet- now. Unlimited green veggies, squash, eggplant, but mostly any veggie that is green is good. Low fat meats.. chicken and fish... thats it for 2 days... After 2 days I added one starch and one fruit a day. I am also taking tons of protein in the form of shakes and bars.. I will tell you, I feel better and am also losing a couple of inches. So it works.. Good luck
Dottie,

I created a blog where I reviewed a plan that I used to rid my body of all that nasty stuff you are talking about. Take a look at it and see what I did to not only cleanse my system, but lose some weight and gain a ton of energy.
It is 100% natural and healthy for you.

Good luck,
LOTS of water and vit B complex will help push the toxin out of your system faster. changing your diet to freash fruits and vegs can never hurt!!!!
start exercising like running and jump rope. cardio training will build ur body back. congrats on qutting!!!! im 6 months quit myself
My dr-s office is really pushing those foot pads that detox overnight. Green tea is good too. Lost of water, of course. Lots of green leafy veggies and broccoli. I hope this helps! Good Luck!!

After you quit smoking does smokers cough go away? -

After you quit smoking does smokers cough go away? -

Yes.
Cigarette smoke contains chemicals that irritate the air passages and lungs. When a smoker inhales these substances, the body tries to protect itself by coughing. The well-known -early morning- cough of smokers happens for a different reason. Normally, cilia (tiny hairlike formations lining the airways) beat outward and sweep harmful material out of the lungs. Cigarette smoke, however, decreases the sweeping action, so some of the poisons in the smoke remain in the lungs. When a smoker sleeps, some cilia recover and begin working again. After waking up, the smoker coughs because the lungs are trying to clear away the poisons that built up the previous day. Unfortunately, prolonged exposure to smoke completely destroys the cilia-s ability to function. Then the smoker-s lungs are even more exposed and susceptible than before, especially to bacteria and viruses in the air.

Within a few days you will probably begin to notice some remarkable changes in your body. Your sense of smell and taste may improve. You will breathe easier, and your smoker-s hack will begin to disappear, although you may notice that you will continue to cough for a while. And you will be free from the mess, smell, inconvenience, expense, and dependence of cigarette smoking.

When we smoke and for all the years that we smoked each and every puff on a cigarette destroyed the cilia, or tiny little hair-like projections lining our respiratory tract. These cilia are responsible for filtering out all the impurities we breathe on a daily basis. They line our nose and reach all the way down into our lungs. When we quit smoking, the first thing, essentially to start repairing itself, is the respiratory tract......and as soon as we take the last puff, the cilia start to regenerate themselves. In some people these cilia grow back faster than others.

Coughing is a natural byproduct of the reemerging cilia. It makes no difference how long or how much you smoked, the rate of regrowth can and is different in most of us. The faster the cilia grow, the more likely we are to cough lots in the first weeks of a quit. Our bodies are healing and our lungs are clearing themselves of all the toxins and impurities.

But whether your cilia grow back rapidly and we cough lots or slowly and we cough little....any cough lasting more that a few weeks and is persistant and is accompanied by pain and or fever, should be checked by a qualified physcian. The body heals remarkedly fast but smoking often covers a variety of other illnesses and conditions and a lingering cough should not always be associated with quitting smoking. It-s a great idea for any of us quitting to have our lungs checked out afterwards. It really does help with peace of mind.
not unless you already have lung cancer or emphysema, the cough will gradually disappear
yes
I guess it depends on how long you smoked for! If you dont die from Lung Cancer shortly after you quit then it should eventually go away. I smoked for twelve years and I dont cough anymore. I think It stopped that same year for me. But...I do still have breathing problems and Bronchitis at least once a year.
It takes a while but yes. If you have had a persistent cough then it could be something like sinus drainage that goes into the lungs. However, there are smokers vitamins out there to help with your symptoms and to help get rid of toxins faster.

Have you tried it or know anyone who has,I am thinking of giving it a go.

(This product might have been out for up to a year but I am not sure?)
Its called cold turkey.
You are talking about Pfizer-s Chantix (http://www.chantix.com), which has been on the market for several months. It-s not nicotine, but the medication works on the same area of the brain as nicotine and blocks the brain-s cravings. It requires a prescription, though, so you-ll have to discuss it with your doctor.
I hope there is so I can recommend it to my friend.

How do i quit smoking? -

i really want to quit, but so far nothing has helped.
Are you sure that you really want to quit?

What have you tried that hasn-t helped?

It-s a tough addiction - realizing you-re addicted and that it is damn difficult to quit is the first step. Are you there yet?

It usually takes several serious efforts and then several extended relapses before you quit for good - if you quit for good.

If you can-t quit via the usual means (cold turkey, NRT, Zyban) try the new Pfizer drug, Chantix. But make sure you really want to quit - otherwise you are wasting your time.

http://www.chantix.com

I smoked for more than 25 years, and I have been smokefree now, finally, for about 2-1/2+ years.
support classes and the patch and YOU realy have to want to,go to one of the quit smoking groups they really help
well i know someone who smoked and she stoped and she thrught them away and stped and we told her to
My father did cold turkey when he went into the hospital to have his appendix removed, but I don-t think you want to do that.

Find a support group, since going solo doesn-t seem to help. Keep a pack of gum to stick in your mouth instead of cigarrettes. If you know what triggers the urge to smoke, either avoid the situation that causes the said urge or grow a different habit.

Good luck!
I smoked for 5 years, so I can just imagine what you are going through. Best advice, pay attention to what causes you to smoke in the first place (what triggers it) and replace it with something else. I took deep breaths for 1 minute, even though you might look funny.. who cares? Its for your own good.

Good Luck :)
My mother was a heavy smoker. She went cold turkey. It is hard for the first couple hours, and then even harder for some time, but hard physical activity kept her mind off. It just takes sheer will.
I can-t remember who said it, but one of my favorite quotes is about smoking. -Quitting-s easy - I-ve done it a thousand times-.

Quitting permenantly is another story. I am a smoker. I don-t want to quit, but wish I wanted to quit. This is what I am doing in the mean time...
I don-t have the ultimate desire to quit, but want to be healthier so I-ve done a few things to help a bit.

1. I excercise more. Some studies say that those who smoke and excercise regularly are healthier than those who don-t smoke or excercise at all.
2. I take breaks from smoking. I know smoking is effecting my health when I become really tired for 3 or more days for no reason, my sinuses/allergies are acting up more than usual or I have a lot of trouble sleeping. I then take about three days off from smoking and feel better.
3. I drink a lot of water. This curves appetite as well as cigarrette cravings.
4. Keep busy as much as possible. When the mind is off of cigarrettes, the desire is gone. I don-t know about you, but the no smoking adds on television and on billboards everywhere are the worst things for me. They just remind me of the fact that I smoke and trigger the need.

Not sure if this is anywhere near Dr. recommended, but it may help a bit until you are completely ready and determined to quit - if that-s where you are at this time.
punch yourself in the face with a kidney but seriously just take it gradually those d@mn patches didn-t work for me iono about you though but try to stay off one cig per day for about a week then next week stay off another cig per day ok FOOL?

(stay off 1 cig off from your usual amount of cigs per day)

Quitting smoking Why does this happen when they say opposite will happen? -

I was just reading that when people quit smoking they may experience restlessness or sleeplessness, however when I stop smoking I get really tired and tend to greatly oversleep I dont become angry or aggravated easily but like I said extremely worn out and tired. Is this normal?
Nicotine is a stimulant, which is why you get tired and fatigued.

Most people I know experience this to some degree - kripe, I feel asleep at my desk at work, and thats one of the reasons why I went back to it....

However - this is gonna sound strange.
Nicotine is also named after a chemical that is already in your brain - nicotinic acid - it got the name because it fit in the receptors for nicotinic acid.....and because while you smoke your body is chock full of stuff that fits its own receptors, it cuts back on producing nicotinic acid - which happens to be needed for brain function.
When you stop smoking you all of a sudden dont have a source of nicotinic acid, and it takes a while for your body to catch up to whats needed - it can take up to a full year - in that interim, people tend to be irritable, because nicotinic acid slows mental activity.

Sure. Smoking produces different effects depending on how you dose yourself. It can be both a stimulant and a depressant. If you smoked to stimulate yourself and wake yourself up, then withdrawal should have the opposite effect.
every one is different when i tried quitting i would sleep all day and gained a trckload of weight , but your body is diffrent so every one reacts differently good luck

How can I quit smoking when everyone around me smokes? -

I-ve never felt so weak in my entire life. I want to quit smoking so badly but every time I try I only find myself obsessing on wanting a cigarette. My roommates smoke, my friends smoke and it seems like we all want to quit but end up caving for one reason or another. Does anyone have any advice that could help me?
I understand your pain. Its all about standing up for yourself. Like high schoolers, its like giving in to peer pressure, but on yourself.

I have been addicted to many things and cigarettes were the worst. If you-re a cold-turkey kind of person, try that and see how it goes. If not, bum when you are drinking alcohol ONLY (social smoker) and limit yourself to only 1 or 2 per social-smoking nites.

Here is how I did it:
1. Do NOT buy a pack of smokes. If you have them, you will smoke them. Bumming from friends and strangers constantly gets old quickly and they will eventually be annoyed.

2. Don-t even think about it. The more you think about it, the more you want one. When you think of smoking one, think about how your throat feels right then, think about gross crap like mucus and phlegm and tar... ew.

3. My boyfriend helped. He quit smoking and stayed strong while the rest of us continued. Every time I would smoke he would be very, very, very upset. He is worth more to me than smoking cigarettes.

4. Buy lots of gum.

5. When you quit, realize that it will take a long, long, long time to not want one... but even then, even my 80 year old grandmother still has dreams about wanting cigarettes and she quit 20 years ago.

6. When you do quit, you will feel ill, you will feel tired and down and cranky and pissed off and crazy. This will pass. Do not give in!

7. This next one is entirely dependent on your personality.... if you like the social habit part of things, partake in the social habit part. If it is too difficult for you to stay social without wanting to bum, then don-t partake. You may lose friends over it, but what kind of friends are those?

8. Sooner or later you won-t feel like the only one not smoking... my group of friends quit one by one... and the last one standing outside smoking felt very alone.

You can do it! You can do anything.... trust yourself.
If your friends are serious about quitting, make a pact with those who are serious and get a prescription for Chantix.

My girlfriend and I smoked for quite a long time and a few months ago we decided to make the jump and got Chantix and were able to quit completely. I can go out and drink and not even crave one. Talk to your doctor and they-d be happy to help.

As far as your friends/roommates who do smoke, try to avoid them for the short term and stay away from them while you are drinking to avoid a relapse. In time you-ll be better off and will be fine when around them and drinking. Just remember that you will be fighting this for the rest of your life, no matter how long you have quit.
champax from ur doctor gets rid of the cravings and a little bit of will power. stop now before u-ve smoked for too many years, the longer you-ve smoked the harder it gets
I THINK U SHOULD TAKE NON-SMOKING MEDICATION LIKE OTHER PEOPLE SAY GET NEW FRIENDS
You either make a pact and support each other or you move out and find new friends. Your life has to be worth this.
Hi Nathalie...

wow never felt so weak, eh, well that-s the way quitting usually is.. the friendship stuff does complicate, an already difficult situation..however the good news it is difficult, not impossible.. over the years, i have known many instances, when people have quit, while significant others continued to smoke.. most of the time the others quit, at a later date, following someones example..

myself i was a smoker for more than 40 years, the last 5 of those were spent trying to quit, one attempt after another.. the good news of course is that i did quit, and now have over 5 years nicotine free..

i found out that smoking, was too much for me, to handle alone.. i joined a support group, and was able to quit.. i have found the support of other quitters, as well as the experience of more seasoned members, was just what i needed to finally quit...

i attend nicotine anonymous meetings both locally, and on line.. on line meetings are as close as your computer.. you are welcome to attend while still contemplating a quit.. however you decide to quit good luck.. there is simply no wrong way to quit!!

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.

cold turkey. former smoker here too. it-s will power, all will power. if you want it bad enough you will overcome and quit, if you don-t want it bad enough you will die.
mind over matter. i know it sounds crazy. but the idea of quitting is crazy enough. if you want it bad enough im sure you can come through. i believe in you. Good luck and God bless
Cold Turkey!!!!!!! If your need help call the American Cancer Society for help.
I am a former 3 pack a day smoker who quit 22 years ago and am so happy now. Good luck and God Bless!!!!!!!!!!!
Cold turkey. Both times, hahaha. If I felt like I was going to die if I didn-t get one, I would get ONE from someone else. Don-t buy a pack. Good luck.

I quit smoking 10 days ago, but Ive noticed nothing good--whats the deal? -

I really enjoy smoking. I-ve had no problems over the past ten days, but I miss it. I-ve smoke since I was 14, now I-m 39. I-ve heard some people can smoke and have virtually no physical problems from it--I think I may be one of those people. If that-s the case, I wanna start again! Any others out there like me?
I sympathize with you. I-m almost 2 months quit and I think the same thing every day. What you may not realize is what other people are noticing. Like you don-t smell like smoke anymore. It really is a foul odor! They may notice that your skin looks better. Smoking can cause your skin to look like leather. They may notice that you-re no longer sporting the nicotine stain tattoos on your fingers.

I believe that it-s not the quantity of cigarettes that cause health problems, it-s that one. This one cigarette I have in my hand (metaphorically) may be the one that takes my body over the edge and produces cancer or emphysema.

Consider yourself lucky that you made it through with your health and keep smoke free!
10 days are very small period,Just dont smoke, lateron you will realize how healthy you are, you will feel more energetic!!!
You are starting to realize just how ill you were...

It may take years for your lungs to recover.
my Dad smoked from 18 --- 60 yrs. old

it takes time to see/feel the difference
( about a month or 2 )

you will notice that you have more energy,
feel better - in the long run your doing your
lungs a HUGE favor ( have you seen what a
smokers lungs look like )

keep up the good work - do NOT go back to smoking , my Dad is SO glad he stopped
- just think of the money you will save w/ not
having to buy cigs.

good luck
Run somewhere, you-ll find that you can run faster
start again simple reason for your 1st 2months you will get sick easly start again i know cause i did it i-m still smoking
Cancer foo
You quit. Congratulation. Now do not go back please.
You can be a hero to all of us that want to quit with no success.
An inspiration.
I-m a smoker, and I want to quit...but never really got to the point where i really tried. I heard the 1st 3 weeks are the hardest...I never got to that point, but if you can keep it up a little longer, maybe you will start feeling the positive effects from not smoking. Good luck with that...if you wanna start again, go for it...but I think if you made it this far, try to make it a month without cigarettes and see how you feel then...
My grandpa almost died because of smoking. My grandma died from cancer because of smoking. I had not seen her for 7 years and when I saw her. Her skin was all green. I could see her decaying in front of me. It was not nice to see an unhealthy person in pain after so many years. She smoked since she was 15 and lived to the age of around 70 but died painfully...... If you don-t think you have problems... well maybe by the time you get older it will come.
dont fool yourself. i found that quiting tobacco was a battle with myself. i kept finding reasons and excuses to light up. -yeah u deserve a fag... yeah you-ve been good, yeah you-re stressed-

You have and angel on your right shoulder and a devil on your left one. put the devil in the microwave. You know smoking will ruin you life. Hang in there and be strong
I cant really argue with you. Yes i have seen some cases in the hospital. Your life is yours to live.

I don-t recommend it, but its like an old teacher said to me once: you can smoke all your life and have a slight chance of not dying from it. But you can be a non smoker and have a big chance of getting hit by a truck full of cigarettes.

Anyone take Chantix to quit smoking? -

I am taking Chantix to quit smoking. I am on my 4th day from my quit date. So I-ve been on it for a week and a half. Now that I-m not smoking during the day, I feel sooooo hungry all the time. I-m a small girl 5ft 3in and 110 lbs, and I don-t want to gain too much weight. Anyone else who took this med. to quit or Zyban and had the same feeling of hunger? Also if there are any healthy tips to curve the hunger cravings. Forget about nicotine cravings, they-re practically gone, but now I-m sooo hungry. Just another annoying craving to deal with now. Tips please. Thanks!!
Increase hunger is a standard side effect of quitting smoking, in general. Your metabolism is getting back to normal. Average weight gain for quitting smokings is about 5-10 lbs. You are heading to a weight which you should have been. For you, if you gain a couple of pounds it is not the end of the world.
However, a side effect of Zyban (Bupropion) not Zyban is appetite suppression.
I wonder why your doctor chose the rather new Chantix over Zyban. Zyban is actually Bupriopion SR, and that is a generic drug.
Best thing is to exercise more and eat a healthy diet.
You do want to change medications in the middle of your treatment.
Hi- according to this article, when you hungry- take a walk! Replace your cravings with exercise, and you will become even healthier! Here is the article:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070313/ap_o…

Stick with it, and good luck!
I took Chantix and had the same problem. I stopped taking it back in December (I quit smoking in October) and was on a feeding frenzy after I quit. I gained a few pounds but have since lost it. Gaining a few pounds is a small price to pay to kick the smoking habit.

Try and eat healthier things like vegetables or honey wheat pretzels. They-re good for you and also help with the oral fixation.
-Chantix (varenicline) can be four times as effective in helping a smoker give up cigarettes successfully, according to a report in JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association). According to the report, which cites three studies, Chantix is twice as effective as Zyban (bupropion).-

Maybe that-s the reason some doctors prefer Chantix than Zyban.

About Chantix side effects I know one of the side effects is constipation, so plenty water can help taking this medication.

http://www.quitsmokinghope.com/chantix/c…

Sorry to hear that is happening to you! I am on day 18 of my Chantix program, and thankfully I haven-t noticed any increase in hunger cravings. Keep taking the Chantix though! It does help!
Chantix is a great way to quit smoking with minimal side effects, which should go away eventually. For more information about Chantix, please view the following website: http://www.121doc.co.uk/affiliate/scripts/t.php?a_aid=fbb92383-a_bid=-desturl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.121doc.com%2Fchampix.html

I just quit smoking, it is my 3rd day.
I have been a smoker for 15 years.. back and forth. I have stopped and started many times... this time is it for me.

Anyway, I am feeling short of breath.. as though I smoked a pack before bed. I am coughing A LOT and having a tough time. I wondering if anyone has felt this way? and why?

I haven-t had terrible cravings, just more of the -habit- wanting to smoke at certian points.
The lungs are ridding themselves from all the polutants that have built up for years. A productive, chronic cough is not uncommon at this point, plus you are still so new at being a nonsmoker...Congrats by the way!
The shortness of breath or heaviness on the chest as Ive heard it described before should resolve in the next few weeks as your body gets used to the fresh air.
There is a chance some could be anxiety, if it is extra worrisome, please see your doctor.
As mentioned in some above answers, identify your triggers and try to replace your cigarette with something else, like a carrot stick when on the phone, or gum while you are driving or whatever else you can figure out.
Good Luck
Hi , first of all , good for you . I have been smoking for the past forty years - am down to 3 a day but can-t seem to let go of the ritual of smoking . I think all the coughing is alot of stuff coming up . At first I did the same thing , but after a couple of weeks my health improved dramatically which has kept me motivated . I-m still disappointed I can-t seem to let it go altogether . I-m not gonna give up though ! Oh yea , I have COPD ( chronic obstructive pulmonary disease ) . It-s a given for your future if you continue smoking - it-s like slowly smothering to death . I-ve just started a quit smoking support group on yahoo anytime you just need to just BS about it . DoOrDieNow@yahoogroups.com . Good luck !
I quit three weeks ago ..]
lungs are just now starting to feel better , give it some time
congrats
This is normal man, coughing will happen depending how much you used to smoke, its only the after effects of the tobacco, your body is craving for it, its normal to be short of breath and you will have the tendency to be moody, but if you go beyond the 1-month mark, trust me you-ll feel like a new person. So good luck buddy, give up this piece of **** once for all!!!!!!!!!!!
The coughing is absolutely normal. Your lungs are beginning to clear themselves of the buildup. They have LONGED for this day when they could get some pure oxygen into them, - they are temporarily struggling to do what they do, but they need to rid themselves of the crud in there from smoking.
The cravings are probably from your triggers. Mine were when I was drinking coffee, when I was on the phone - when I was driving. I put hard candy in those places to satisfy my hand/mouth habit.
i was smoker for 5 years only and as my newyears resolution i thought ill stop, but u cant just stop suddenly , ur chances of failing r gonna increase this way. i stopped for 3 days and i was misreble i was stairing at the people on roads smoking!

so i started after the third day but only 3 a day, so its the 10nt month of the year and i came from 12 a day to 3 a day i guess it isnt bad.

if u really craving u can smoke a half even,
its a positive step stick to it, good luck!

Withdrawal symptoms i quit smoking saturday from hypnosis and im getting really angry and agitateted? -

im in two minds to start smoking again im really bad to live wit any sugesstions on what to do please help
Obviously the hypnosis is not effective I-d demand my money back. But seriously, it takes about 10 days for the physical addiction of nicotine to subside, as your body is trying to purge itself. After that it-s all psychological addiction that you must figure out ie... the reasons you are drawn to smoking in the first place, and why you may feel the desire for another.
If you feel it-s to much for you, try the patch or nicotine gum.
This will take a bit of self regulating, the idea is of course to wean yourself off the dependence.
Furthermore, you need to keep yourself as busy as humanly possible, as this will help to keep your mind off your cravings. Go jogging, your lungs will hate you for it but, it WILL keep you mindful of what your shooting for.
suck on lollipops, keep a toothpick in your mouth, excercise, remember that each cigarette exposes you to more radiation than is healthy within a year, just think of other things. best thing is to keep busy and don-t think about it.
Yah, congratulations. I am only on day One and I already feel tetchy!! It doesn-t help that my husband is still smoking, I want to scratch his eyes out! Don-t start again, because if you do, you will only have to go through this again next time you give up. Logical hey! Best wishes, thinking of you.xxx
Sorry your feeling like that but you have stopped smoking and thats the main thing,
If you carry on feeling as you do why don-t
you buy a packet of patches, they might help,
Ive been stopped three years and I still want
one,hope this helps you bye.
Give it a couple of weeks,i felt like crap for 2 weeks, then i started to feel much better,i was on about 20 a day.Feel 100% better than i ever did smoking, got more energy and more alert-dont give up keep going!!!! good luck
Hello,
your therapaist/hypnotherapist may have been best to take another approach rather than cold turkey.
If he /she left you with tapes or excercises to do, make sure you follow exactly what you were advised to do.
If you have a follow up appointment it is absolutley vital that you keep it.
Best of luck to you.
First of all WELL DONE on giving up. You have taken a major step towards better health and we need to keep you on the right path.
Anger and agitation are signs of withdrawral and this is the most dangerous period so to speak and I can help you.
Take yourself off to a quiet room and sit in a comfy chair. Relax your thoughts and play some soft music in the background. Take deep breaths in through your nose and really -SIGH- them out through your mouth. Really enjoy letting the breath go and let go the anger with each breath.
Calm your thoughts and relax. If you drop off to sleep, that-s OK, you will wake feeling restored rested and calm. Good Luck.
I was the same. I gave up using hypnosis and for the next 3 days i was a nightmare. It was worse than going cold turkey. but my hypnotist gave me a relaxation tape to listen to. I listened to that at lunchtime and before bed and the anger quickly passed.
That was 2 years ago and I-ve never been tempted to smoke since.
Well done for giving up. You will feel beter for it.
Hya love,

I finally quit yesterday but I am using the patches, which to my surprise are working well (although I know it-s early days yet)

As for you -

Don-t do it. Quickly do something to take your mind off it - make a cuppa, go to the loo, peel a tangerine. The moment will soon pass.
I agree it takes alot of will power to do this but please do try!

Good luck honey - keep us updated how you are doing!
Its ok to get annoyed when you have to give up something you have had or been doing for a long time. The mind feels its being ignored, can-t do its usual thing, and so looks for a ciggy, but your not giving in!

You smell great, you look good, and by golly its going to get better. Give yourself a pressy, something nice.

stay ciggy free====I am trying.
Stick it out it gets better after about two weeks and you really start to feel the difference try keeping busy to take your mind off it
good luck
What you are feeling is normal. When i gave up, i had withdrawal
symptons for two years. I used to awake in the night, i had dreamt iwas smoking and used to feel ashamed of myself for
giving in. The joy of knowing it was just a dream! Persevere. it
will be worth it in the long run! Look at it this way, £3-50 per pack,
times weekly outlay, times annual outlay. What could you do with
that? Better still. think of the money in tax you are volunteering
to give to that pension steeler brown?
Good luck, don-t weeken!
Hi there,

When you quit smoking through hypnosis there are often some minor side effects including emotions and quite often (and yucky) black tar like nasal discharge.

As a hypnotherapist myself I can give you some good advice based on personal experiences.

It sounds to me like one of the main reasons you smoked (or main benefits you got from it) was that it relaxed you and kept you calm. It may even be that now you are a non smoker you no longer know what to do with your hands, whereas before you had a cigerette in them.

I would recommend starting a relaxation process or using a hypnosis audio cd in the evenings (or during the day) to help you relax and feel calmed. Usually I give my clients a hypnosis cd to listen to for two weeks after the session to ensure they remain calm and focussed.

Two I can recommend are

http://musicforchange.com/cms/index.php?…
- a subliminal program

and

http://musicforchange.com/cms/index.php?…

Both of which I know get good results.

One thing you can do to get immediate results is to start breathing deeply from you stomach, i.e. when you breath in your stomach expands, and when you breath out your stomach contracts. This will help you to stay relaxed and calm.

If it helps, get the modern equivalent of a rubik-s cube or a pen or something to keep your hands occupied with whilst you enjoy your new life as a non smoker!

Keep up the great work, you-re doing fantastically with it!

All the best

Jason

Husband a smoker for 20 years wants to quit smoking.? -

he has no teeth so the nic gum wont work, he tried chantix it worked but he had very bad hallucinations, any other ideas.
i quit smoking march 23 2009 with the help of the Nicotine transdermal patch. It is a 3 month process of wearing the patch but its worth it. One month you will have a 21 mg patch wich is like a pack of cigs a day. The next month you go down to 14 mg. And the last month you have 7 mg. You have dreams when you first start out and a lot of people give up because of that. After about 3 wks the dreams will go away and your food will taste so much better and your sense of smell is amazing. Good Luck and give him lots of encouragement.
There-s always the patch. Every treatment has its own set of side effects, I-m afraid. The patch can cause skin irritation, and of course, it-s just not the same as smoking.
It-s extremely important to have not only the physical side taken care of, but the psychological side. I know that nicoderm patches actually include an information packet that helps you identify the triggers you have for smoking, and helps you figure out every part of your personal quitting plan. It is a lot of hard work, and most people aren-t able to quit on their first try. I wish you both the best of luck.
I smoked for about that long myself and found quitting to be one of the hardest things I had ever done in my life! I had good luck with Zyban (also known as Wellbutrin). It doesn-t work immediately, so you have to take it for a few weeks before you try to quit, but it definitely helped. If he-s serious, have him talk to his doctor and I-m sure there are even more things out there now! Good Luck!
I stopped thru using patches. There is a leaflet inside Nicorette with a helpline. I received a bag of goodies including a CD.
I found it difficult to know what to do with my hands, so I also used a nicotine replacement inhaler, which comes in a pack the same size as a ciggy packet, and is about the same size as a cigarette. You put it in your mouth and twiddle it, much the same as a fag, when you feel the need. The instructions say you shouldn-t use both together,
so I didn-t replace the inner cartridge a lot of the time.
Remove all ashtrays and smoking paraphernalia. Stop anyone
smoking in the house - especially visitors. Explain to others that he
is quitting. One whiff of someone else-s smoke, even after a few weeks, starts the craving all over again.
The worst time is in the morning. Keep him busy. Let him go for a walk or do something physical. Kick the garage doors if need be. Cut right down on tea and coffee and alcohol for a while. Eat plenty of fruit. Put a monthly calendar in a conspicuous place and let him mark off each day with a big -dobber-. Praise him daily like you would a
kid - it is a massive step he is taking. Put a jar on the coffee table, then make him put the money he is saving by not smoking into the jar where he can see it (I bought a microwave oven after the first week!)
Talk about what you are gonna do with the money. Go with him to
buy a big treat for him.

Click on my avitar (pic) for my email address. Get him to contact me. I have emphasema and had a triple heart bypass last year - though I promise not to lecture him !

I wish him the very best of luck.
hi adorkable..

i usually don-t answer 3rd party inquires..but here goes...lol.. don-t know what all your hubby tried, but ive tried most of the stuff that-s out there..

the only thing that worked for me, was involvement with other addicts in a support group... i attend nicotine anonymous meetings both locally, and online.. hubbys welcome at meetings smoking, or quit.. in fact, we encourage new folks to attend, before setting a quit date..there are over 30 meetings a week online... we are as close as your computer.

What will happen to a person who quits smoking after 18 years? -

What will happen to a person who quits smoking after 18 years? -

my friend has quit smoking now, but she is been smoking for last 18 years. does it have any bad aspect quitting?
No nothing bad will happen. The farther she is away from a cigarette the better she will feel.
I suspect she will go into a detox state in which the body is flushing out all the harmful stuff that nicotine has left. She might get moody, as she has been so used to it, and irritated.
She will probably go into withdrawal and have strong cigarette cravings. However, she will benefit her health enormously.
