Do you have any quit smoking tips? -

I am embarking on the quit smoking challenge and I would love some ideas and tips from people out there who have kicked the habit...
Are you using an aides to quit? I used the patch which helped me greatly.
Keep cut up fruit and vegtables in mini ziplock baggies to snack on because your appetite will increase. Take a water bottle with you where ever you go and when you have a craving, take sips of it. It helps with hand to mouth, helps you with detoxing and will help you through the craving.
Remember that cravings only last 2 minutes tops... you CAN get through that and they lessen with time.
I also used this site when I quit and it was a huge help! I logged in daily, and during my worst moments to prevent me from going off track. It has forums, advice, tips, support 24/7 (all free) and everyone is in the same boat. Take the time to check it out... you-ll find it really helps.

Good luck!
Hey there. Congrats on deciding to quit. Absolutely the number one best long term health decision you can make. I started a yahoo group when I quit with extensive files, links etc. attached that can answer ANY question you might have regarding smoking and quitting. Accurately. Feel free to have a look and hang in there.

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Sta…

You can get the new medication -Chantix- from your Dr. It works by telling the brain-s nicotine receptors that they are already full and there is no nicotine in the medication. Most insurance companies do cover this medication also. It really does work miracles! I also went and bought a humongous bag of those little -Dum-Dum- suckers to have someting for the hand to mouth habit too. They are small enough to not pack on the weight for you and they do the trick for that end of things. I also started walking after dinner instead of smoking. Good luck to you and great move!
there can be only 1 main thing to take care of in terms of quitting the habbit of smoking. STRONG WILL POWER TO QUIT.
if you have that then all else will be taken care of and no other tip is required. But if your will power to quit is not strong enough, then what ever tip anyone might give you is not going to work. If you think that you will reduce slowly and then one day quit this habbit - YOU ARE WRONG.
just stop smoking once and for all and ensure you dont get back to it come what may.
all the best !!!!
Decide for sure that you want to quit. Promise yourself that you-ll do it. It-s OK to have mixed feelings. Don-t let that stop you. There will be times every day that you don-t feel like quitting. You will have to stick with it anyway.

The following is a list of widely accepted tricks to help you get through the process of quitting.

Quit smoking tip #1:
Rid your entire life of cigarettes and all the paraphernalia of smoking such as lighters, matches, ashtrays etc. Never carry cigarettes with you.

Quit smoking tip #2:
Accept that you are never going to have another cigarette as long as you live. Understand that the only reason you could possibly need any smoking paraphernalia is because you plan on smoking again.

Quit smoking tip #3:
Don-t kid yourself that you will let your friends smoke in your house. You must ban smoking from every aspect of your life. Your house, your car, your back yard.

Quit smoking tip #4:
Never doubt your decision to quit smoking. It was the right decision.

Quit smoking tip #5:
Every time you crave a cigarette, feel proud that you have gone this long without one and you can manage even longer.

Quit smoking tip #6:
Drink plenty of water and drink plenty of citric fruit juices for the first couple of days. Stop drinking sugary drinks after day 3 or you will put on weight.

Quit smoking tip #7:
If you are worried about getting fat, start using the stairs at work or whenever you can. If you have to go somewhere within a mile, walk instead of cycle or taking the car.

Quit smoking tip #8:
Start eating healthy food. Stay off the pastries, sweets, potato chips and chocolates. Eat raw vegetables and plenty of fruit. Without smoking, these things start tasting even better than normal.

Quit smoking tip #9:
Set aside a jar to put all your cigarette money in. You will be saving over $30 a week if you are a normal smoker. Use this money to spend on something extravagant for your self after the first week and then after the first month.

Quit smoking tip #10:
Tell everyone you know that you are quitting smoking. Ask them for their encouragement - they will give it. Smokers and non-smokers and ex-smokers especially, will all be 100% behind you. No-one likes seeing friends or family killing themselves.

There are many support methods out there to help smokers quit. You can use nicotine replacement therapy (which I seriously don-t recommend), zyban or chantix with 16% and 22% apparent success rates. There are also other methods that do not use drugs or pharmacological interventions such as hypnotherapy or cognitive behavioural therapy. These methods generally boast better long term results than drugs do.

My advice to anyone trying to quit smoking is to be prepared to try any and every method you can. Invest money (particularly if it comes with a money back guarantee) because it is money well spent. No-one can tell you which method will work best for you so you can only find out by trying all the methods.

As always, never stop trying to quit smoking.
Drink tomato juice in the morning after you get up, and drink carrot juice before you sleep at night....try it ;)
Perhaps a web search for -quit smoking- + -natural ways- might be useful.

What are the side effects of (trying to quit smoking) having Nicorette at the same time? -

I mean if you cut out almost all smoking (1-2 cigarettes a day) and gradually build up the nicotine withdrawal (1/2 gum or more) ?
You-re not supposed to use a nicotine replacement therapy and smoke at the same time. You could OD on nicotine and make yourself sick. One of my boyfriends friends would smoke while chewing gum and become dizzy and nauseous. You-re better off quiting completely and using the gum or patches.

I quit almost a month ago and used patches- they-ve worked great.
Officially, you aren-t supposed to do both because it can increase your heart attack risk. In practice, most people cheat -- at least, that-s what I-ve seen and what everyone said in an online discussion. The risk, heart attack and otherwise, from continuing to smoke is almost certainly much higher.

I used the Commit nicotine lozenges (which I found easier to use than the gum) and at first, I-d break down occasionally as you have. But eventually, it happened less and less as I became used to the new nicotine dosage, and eventually I stopped breaking down and finally lost the urge completely. In fact, when I tried smoking one to see what would happen, it felt kind of gross.
It will probably make you sick. Try hypnosis, my mom did and she quit after 25 years

is it possible to quit and how? and what if your under 18 and don-t want your parents to find out?
Just do not pick up anopther one................if you do, take one puff and put it out. NEVER smoke alone, find gum.
no time at all... just dont pick up a cigarrette... in fact its more like negative time because your gaining that few minutes that you would be smoking.
Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.
Hey, great question.

I believe it takes roughly 1 second to extinguish a cigarette. However, with multiple cigarettes, this may not be so easy. I-d say a good formula would be a second for each cigarette, minus how many cigarettes you have times .1
in few seconds if you really thing to stop. you use the word how long means days it is impossible
JUST STOP!
sally, it takes an instant. Or ten years.

It-s entirely possible to quit without any medications, nicotine patches or gum, any of that. You just stop, and when you really crave a smoke, you take a deep breath (literally--it helps) and remind yourself why you-re quitting. In time the cravings hit less frequently, and are less intense. Depending on how long you smoked, they may never really go away.

I quit that way a number of times, then took it up again during a period of stress or self-pity. The last one took, and I-m approaching ten years now with only about 4 bummed cigarettes over that period. I still crave when I-m around smokers.

Just stop. Throw away your cigarettes. Stay away from those who smoke for a few days. Buy some gum or mints, and make a list of all the reasons you don-t want to smoke. You can do this!

Do you know anyone that has NOT quit smoking with hypnosis? -

Do you know anyone that has NOT quit smoking with hypnosis? -

I didn-t.

I fought so hard against the urge to not smoke. But I was weak. And had one.
Once I had one that was it for me.

I did however quit cold turkey one day when I ran out of smokes about a year later.

I needed to be mentally ready to give up. Not just I have to give up.

That was 13 years ago now. I still don-t smoke and can-t stand the smell.
Hello

Those who wish to stop smoking - feel that hypnosis is a magic cure tend to find it does not work.

Hypnosis, like all things in life, requires dedication to desires.

I am trying to quit smoking. Can anyone share ways that they quit and did not gain weight in the process? -

I appreciate answers from anyone who has lived it. Thanks!
January 1, 1987 I had my last cigarette at 1am, after smoking a pack-a-day for over 20 years. Try the following. It will work. You don-t even need good luck.
Local hospitals offer week-long programs to make you quit smoking. Then you-ll need this trick to not go back to it: Just don-t have that ONE CIGARETTE!
People buckle under the intense urge for a cigarette and think that their problem will go away with one cigarette. But that just makes the problem go away temporarily, only to come back with a higher intensity.
Quitting smoking feels like a loss of a loved one because to the brain it is just that - a loved one. So be prepared for the longing and the pain. Just endure it. It won-t kill you. Actually, it will make you live longer.
Adapt a new lifestyle i.e. eat fruits, go jogging, etc. Do whatever, but once you have gone through the week-long quit-smoking program, DON-T HAVE THAT ONE CIGARETTE NO MATTER WHAT. If you have that one cigarette, you fail and if you don-t then you succeed. It is that simple. You do need that week-long program to launch yourself into the wonderful world of non-smoking though.
One more thing: you may need to keep the company of non-smokers for a while i.e. at least one year.
I was just cautious not to substitute food for cigarettes and I didnt put on any weight.
This method works for me and is the only money back guaranteed.
I quit smoking 2 years ago

Get the Facts
Easyway, founded by Allen Carr in 1983, has the highest independently verified 12-month success rate (75.8% for a smoker completing the program) of any quit smoking technique and a 90% satisfaction rating.

Compare Easyway to other methods and see for yourself why Easyway is called “The Cadillac of quit smoking methods.”

The Allen Carr Method
HOW THE METHOD WORKS

Using psychotherapy, the method works in the opposite way to the “willpower” method. It does not concentrate on the reasons the smoker should not smoke : the money, the slavery, the health risks and the stigma. Smokers know all that already. Instead it focuses on why smokers continue to smoke in spite of the obvious disadvantages.

It is fear that keeps smokers hooked!

Fear the smoker will have to give up their pleasure or crutch. Fear the smoker will be unable to enjoy life or handle stress. Fear the smoker will have to go through an awful trauma to get free. Fear the smoker will never get completely free from the craving.

The Method removes these fears
Smokers quit with the Allen Carr Method as happy non-smokers, not feeling deprived but with a huge sense of relief and elation that they have finally achieved what they always wanted….

TO BE FREE!

What about the terrible withdrawal pangs from nicotine?

The physical withdrawal from nicotine is so slight that most smokers don’t realise that they are addicts. What smokers suffer when they try and quit using other methods is the misery and depression caused by the belief that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch.

The Allen Carr Method removes this feeling of deprivation.
It removes the need and desire to smoke. Once the smoker is in the right frame of mind and they follow the simple instructions, the physical withdrawal from nicotine is hardly noticeable.

No Gimmicks!

The Method does not use any gimmicks, useless aids or substitutes. No nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, tabs, inhilators or nasal sprays! No needles! No lasers! No drugs! No herbs! No shock treatment!

The Allen Carr Method is successful because:

It removes the smokers’ conflict of will.
There are no bad withdrawal pangs.
It is instantaneous and easy.
It is equally effective for long-term heavy smokers and light smokers.
You need not gain weight.
You will not miss smoking.

Medical Endorsements

A personal view from Professor Judith Mackay MBE, JP, FRCO (Edin), FRCP (Lon), World Health Organisation Advisory Panel on Tobacco and Health

“I have no hesitation in supporting Allen Carr’s work. Many clinics use some of his techniques but it would appear that few do it in quite such a successful package.”

Carole Johnson, Coronary Heart Disease Prevention Unit, Tyne Tees

“his success rate was such that, when budgets allow, we continue to use Easyway for work with specific groups and individuals.”

Dr Anil Visa BSc, MBBch., FRCA, Consultant – Royal Hospitals NHS Trust – Royal London Hospital

“I have observed the Allen Carr method at first hand and have found it to be very successful and I wholeheartedly support it as an effective way to quit smoking.”

Dr William Green, Head of Psychiatric Dept, Matilda Hospital, Hong Kong

“It is a remarkable fact that Allen Carr, on his own admission a non-professional in behaviour modification, should have succeeded where countless psychologists and psychiatrists holding postgraduate qualifications have failed, in formulating a simple and effective way to stop smoking.”

Dr Martin Jarvis, Principle Scientist, Imperial Cancer Research
Fund and Reader in Health Psychology, University College London

”...I am more than happy to testify to Allen Carr’s enduring involvement and to recognise the value of the kind of behavioural and cognitive support he provides.”

Dr PM Bray MB CH.b., MRCGP

“I was really impressed by the method. In spite of the Allen Carr organisation’s success and fame, there were no gimmicks and the professional approach was something a GP could readily respect. I would be happy to give a medical endorsement of the method to anyone.”

Celebrity Endorsements

-His method is absolutely unique, removing the dependence on cigarettes, while you are actually smoking. I’m pleased to say it has worked for many of my friends and staff.”
Sir Richard Branson

“Some friends of mine who had stopped using Allen Carr’s method suggested I tried it. I did. It was such a revelation that instantly I was freed from my addiction. Like those friends of mine, I found it not only easy but unbelievably enjoyable to stay stopped.”
Sir Anthony Hopkins

GOOD LUCK
Cold Turkey, babe - it-s easy - you-ve just been brainwashed by everyone that says it-s hard, or the advertising coys that want to sell patches and gum and all the other crap that is not needed.

You just need a strong constitution
i quit smoking by sheer will. i decided that i no longer wanted to smoke and wanted to live a healthier lifestyle. i don-t think that there is a foolproof method at not gaining weight. the best advise that i can give you is to watch what you eat and exercise. what i can tell you is that since i quit smoking (since january of this year) i have only gained between 5-7 pounds. i didn-t even go up a size. congratulations on making this decision and good luck.
stop smoking and throw up after every meal.
it is all in the mind no stop smoking agents will work if you don-t have the will power to stop, eat healthy don-t start eating sweets and stuff chew on fruit or fresh herbs,it is to replace the idea of having something between your fingers when your-e bored.
Hey,i-ve done it! I got my doc to prescribe me the meds -wellbutrin- ...if you cant afford the meds, the manufacturer has a program called bridges to access. I paid ten bucks and so far i-ve gotten meds for 6 months. in the mail. now, aside from that....it took me about 2-3 months before I finally quit, but you kinda just stop liking it. and since the wellbutrin helps with cravings, it also cuts the food cravings. they give it to some overweight people to help lose the weight. I love it and so did a few friends of mine, but be careful when you are ready to get off of the meds, be under docs close supervision..the withdrawal can be pretty bad. I-ve decided to stay on them...they give you a good sense of well being...like everything is just okay. 3 years smoke free and i-m twenty seven...good luck, oh, by the way...one time i quit smoking on my own i gained 27 pounds...i lost weight with this stuff...highly recommended, just be patient..it won-t work in one week

U need a good reason to quit smoking.. the first days will be hard....I experienced bad dreaming, in my dreams I gave up n start smoking again.....After 3 months, everything became easier because my body finished detox process and now I-m getting used to quit smoking...I dont gain weight coz I don-t chew candy for substitute... Still, I had a bad dream I start smoking again..Guess I have to live with that for the rest of my life.. but it-s ok.. I-m healthier now..

Any advice to quit smoking? -

I told my hubby to quit smoking during sex,
but he said it helped calm his nerves.
Well, the inevitable finally happened, my friends!
His cigarette caught fire amidst his gentlemanly duties,
and we had ourselves our own burning bush to put out,
except this one didn-t have any messages from God.
It just left your friend OCL with 1st degree burns,
bedridden in a diaper full of neosporin.
The good news is the hubby finally decided to quit smoking in bed! Any ex-smokers-in-bed with advice on what works?
I always heard that smoking during sex was an indication for a lack of lubrication.... check into some gel or maybe ask him to slow down a bit.
fore more details of relation with smoke and sex visit
http://sexeducation4u.blogspot.com/2007/11/does-smoking-affect-sex-life.html
Look i can help u decrease the number of cigs u drink but i dont guarantee u permenantly to stop drinking ,, look u must first of all be really accepting to the quitting thing and so , after that u must begin alowly as like ,,, first if u drink 10 cigs try smoking 9 ,, after a week try 8 then 7 then go on as little as u can until ur ready to stop
every time you want to smoke a cigarette, just punch yourself in the face and you will lose the desire. but you must do it every time or this program doesnt work.
I-m so sorry that this has happened to you;-( I-m glad he has stopped smoking in bed but I would have to suggest maybe chew instead. It can add a very cool feeling during oral and help improve the flavor. Good luck and I think some aloe will help also. I-m a DR. too, because I watch Grey-s Anatomy.
I tried different ways but when I fnally quit it was just cold turkey. You really have to want to quit and you have to say you quit, not I-m trying to quit. It also helps to have someones support like I did, my girlfriend didn-t push me to stop but helped me keep me going through it. If I was with someone that smoked I never could have done it. Biggest thing is you have to want it and have a lot of will power.
maybe he needs to wear the patches that do help you can get from the doctors on prescription ,but im not sure that i would even think about entertaining someone smoking whilst having sex he was most probaly not even thinking about you and where would he flick his ash.

Is it to late for me to quit smoking? -

Is it to late for me to quit smoking? -

i want say my age but im underage to smoke.ive been smoking for about 14 months and its affecting my breathing and its changing my teeth color. if i quit will i start breathing normally again and will the yellow tint come off my teeth.or is the damage done and here to stay i want to quit.please help
The damage is done, your lungs can be cleaned out over time, bu the stains on your teeth are there to stay unless you decide to whiten them, but that would only change their appearance, not their health. It-s never too late to quit though. Think of it this way, if you quit now, they won-t get worse. If you think -oh, it can-t get any worse than this-, well, you-ll find out.
1. If you quit, you probably will have a bit of a more difficult time breathing at first. But it-ll subside. As for your breathing turning back to normal, it takes on the order of 5-10 years to regain a normal level of breathing, assuming you-re a heavy smoker right now. Plus, you-re young and healthy! If ever, this is the best time to quit.

2. As for your teeth color, there are a lot of teeth whitening products out there. I-m personally not especially familiar with any of them, but if you-re teeth are indeed turning yellow, you should check out those products.
It is thought that the damage to your lungs is permanent, however, after many years, and we-re talking 10 maybe 15 years of smoke free environments, your lungs should heal. Other side effects, like lack of smell, taste and the stink that surrounds smokers can take a few months to overcome. The damage to your teeth is irreparable, the enamel cannot be replaced unless you go for specific treatment, which may or may not work.
There might be some damages done but it-s never too late to quit smoking. The truth is that there is no perfect or easy time to quit. Even if you’re one of the very few human beings in this life who has no stress in their life (I don’t believe people like this exist), it’s going to be just as hard as if your life was full of stress. In fact, the act of making such a life change with symptoms and side effects of nicotine withdrawal is very likely to create an amazing amount of stress on not only your life, but the people’s lives around you too.
yep, the damage has been done.
it totally depends on how much you have smoked. i-m in the same situation or was. i-m a runner and i had gotten myself into that stuff and it was pretty bad. people starting noticing that i was acting weird and i couldnt run as fast due to my lack of breathing. you should definetly stop, but it will be hard. think of all the amazing things you have, but then it could change because of this problem. you have to find the will to stop and just pull it right out of you.
i recommed brushing your teeth like crazy and whitening strips. i honestly don-t think there is much to do about your lungs, but don-t take my word for it.
if you need some more advice just ask me.
best of luck!
get a real bad sore throat that hurts when you smoke, then you will certainly stop,that-s how I stopped.

Whats the best way to get my fiancee to quit smoking? -

You will not make the descision for him or her. As a ex-smoker, it was not my wife who made me want to stop - even though she tried for 20years - I made the choice. Give it time, and when they do give up don-t talk about it, just let them get on with it.
If it is a guy, you may suggest he try switching to snus. Check it out on Wikipedia. It is a smokeless tobacco from Sweden that does not contain the carcinogens found in American smokeless tobacco (such as Skoal).

The Oliver Twist style doesn-t require spitting and isn-t noticable when in the mouth (no big bulge).

Some people use it as a substitute for cigarettes, while others use it to help stop smoking and then get off of it. It does contain a lot of nicotine, so it is still habit forming.

Here is the website I purchase mine from: http://www.northerner.com/html/snso_1.html
you can have a talk with her - let her know that you r concerned for her but there is no way to convince to to quit if she does not want to do it....however if she does want to just be there for her while she is trying to quit as she will be very moody and might gain a little weight....let her know how much you love her and care for her - if you plan on having children maybe you should help her quit before she becomes pregnant so you guys can have a healthy child.......(ok i dont know if your fiance is a male or female but same difference either way)
I hear that the hypnosis sessions work to quit cold turkey, but I am not a smoker so I can-t say for sure. Call that quit helpline. Maybe they have some advice that will help you.
Ask Stephen King. He knows certain guys that have
an infallible sistem.
Don-t nag, or he may decide to quit you instead.
Ive been trying guilt but it isnt working. Let me know if you succeed. Smoking is gross.......
cold turkey
You got with him knowing he smokes don-t start trying to change him or you will lose what you fell in love with

Is it common to not be able to breathe after you quit smoking? -

Is it common to not be able to breathe after you quit smoking? -

do you mean you cant breathe at all lol? see a doc
seriously though after you stop smoking the cillia in your lungs which are paralysed by the tobacco start to work again, their job is too push all the crud that is in your lungs out, so now that they are working all the crud is coming out, which means your bronchal tubes get clogged, hence coughing and wheezing, this lasts about 2 weeks.

I-ve tried just about every method there is out there and there is only one I can recommend - NLP! It eliminates the cravings.
Gum patches and all the other just did not cut it for me, not to mention cold turkey which was the hardest, I even tried the electric cig and it is just no match to the real thing.

Just take it one day at a time. The first three days are the hardest, then the first week. After two weeks, you are home free.

How old were you when you started and when you quit? what methods did you use to quit?
I started at fifteen and I am going to be 27.I am currently still smoking and every few days I cut my cigarettes by a half,so now I am smoking two a day.
I started smoking when I was 15 and it was really cool. If only I knew. I quit when I was 53. I quit with the patch and then used the gum for a while. The patch really did the trick and for backup the gum was ok. On the gum for a spell but finally finished with it all. Never have had another cigarette and don-t even want one. Once you quit you sure as hell don-t want to start and go through all the BS again.
Good luck to you but do quit. It is just a waste of money and it is killing you slowly.
Please, don-t quit.
I quit smoking, when i stopped meeting my friends..and stayed home for 2-3 week :)

Never heard of such a thing and couldn-t find anything about it, either. Try this:

http://www.nicotine-anonymous.org/

I didn-t know there was such a thing as quit smoking camps. I think you should see your family doctor, instead of paying all that money to go to camp. If you really really wanted to quit you could. Try to stay busy with work, kids if you have them, or start working out. Use the time you take out of your day to smoke, to try something new and different.
Thanks for asking. Great idea,--never heard of it, - iwonder why. I will check it out.
It-s very hard to see them, smoke covered all the camps..-this should cover everyone in the group-.please don-t go there..Thanks for taking my advice.. Quit smoking, otherwise one-day we-ll not able to see your questions..

Have repeatedly thought and tried to give up smoking but failed.
When I try to quit, I loose my temper and feel intensely that I am missing some thing.
There is a new medication out called Chantix.Works great! It actually affects your craving zone in your brain.Worked for me and my huband.
dont give up......maybe running on a treadmill or going for a walk will get your mind off of smoking.....look for a hobby to do instead of picking up a cigarette...good luck!
First you have to be positive I gave them up for one and half years got hooked on nicorette gum. Take it one day at a time, just say to yourself I won-t smoke today,that-s how I surived. after my Mother died I went back on them and now I smoke twenty a day. I regret the day I went back on them.
try the patches i did and they worked for me i have not smoked for over 15 years but you have to want to pack in you self nobody else can do it for you
I feel I should stop but I am 76 and have been smoking around ten a day for most of my life Why should I stop now?
Try getting 2 or 3 sessions with an accupuncturist. That worked for me.
You should seriously consider that quitting completely may not be the best thing for you. In my case, I reached a compromise: I would only smoke at certain situations, like when I-m out for drinks at night with my friends, or home at night watching TV or only in certain contexts where I-ve decided to allow it. Mostly at night and when I-m trying to relax after a tough day-s work.

At first I tried to quit completely, you know how it is: -I either quit or continue smoking!- but after failing miserably I discovered that temperance is better. Typically, people want to smoke or not, but they can-t seem to consider reaching a compromise. After all, die you will, smoke or not, so why make a hell of your life? If you like smoking, do so, but with measure. Think about the cigarettes you DON-T smoke.

I know what I-m saying: if you really like smoking and you try to quit completely, you will become an angry person and you will feel sad.

I began smoking when I was 14 and am much older now, and this is the only way it-s worked for me. I think that giving up something you really like and is a part of your life isn-t always the best idea. You need to enjoy these things, but just to the point where they are less likely to kill you.

So, try smoking only at night or when the kids are not around (best for them too) and forget those cigarettes you used to smoke at odd moments. Resist these and if you can manage to pass the day only smoking 4 or 5, then it-s far better than smoking 16 or 20!

Another trick is to roll your own. That way they keep you busy longer and it-s not so easy to just take one and lit it. Besides, they taste slightly worse unfiltered while somehow calming your craving. Believe me, it-s tried and you can make it work.

It-s not easy but it-s doable. Believe me, I-ve done it. And you-ll feel all the better for being able to control yourself with cigarettes while others keep saying they-re going to quit but ultimately they can-t.

Best of luck.
There is a goodway which ? tried a few months ago and ?t worked....Bioresonance...You can find further information on the inetrnet. It is a kind of device which wipe off all the information in your memory which stored before. And the success is%85
I personally have tried to quit several times and have only been successful this last time. You will only be able to quit when you-re ready.

Before losing your temper, try to remember that you are doing what is best for your body, your health and the health of the loved ones around you.

Chew alot of gum!
What worked for me was one day at a time.

I-d smoked for 20+ years, failed several times to give up. I-d cut down, not smoking at work, not before 11am, but I could then get through a packet in the evening.

One day I said to myself, -I won-t smoke today. Tomorrow I can smoke ten packs if I want, but just not today-. I found it quite easy to get through, knowing that I could smoke the next day.

Of course the next day I told myself the same thing - and the next, and the next. Several times I thought, -I-m quitting!-, and then immediately I started to get stressed, wanting a cigarette, until I said, -Tomorrow, tomorrow!-.

It was a bit harder going out in the evening with my friends, but I saved that until i had done a week without, and made sure I spent the first few evenings out with non-smoking friends.

The first couple of weeks passed really easily; there was hardly a time that I found it difficult and whenever I really wanted one, I just told myself -Tomorrow- and it was manageable. I have not had a cigarette since I decided, and unlike all the other times I tried, i never found it difficult.

Good luck. If you try this method and it works, let me know . I might write a book about it! LOL.
For a start it-s easier to have someone going through the same thing as you are, find a group in your area, it-s so much easier when there-s someone to talk to when the cravings start. Then put the money you would pay for a packet in the jar, by the end of the week you can treat yourself to something. Or the old way is to collect a load of ciggies ends in a jar fill it with some water and replace lid, every time you get a craving just sniff! It works! Either way good luck and stick to it x
Hello my friend
There is only way to stop smooking when ever your feeling to smoke then try to be busy in some work. U will then forget to smoke and later also do the same. I have tried this and i was successful in this. If you have the intention to stop smoking then you will stop smooking .
five and a half years ago I gave up smoking. I kept switching brands until I found one that made me cough and gave me chest pains (I don-t know why) - this helped me to learn to hate smoking - hate the cigarrette companies that addicted me, hate the smell of smoke, hate full ash-trays, hate the addiction itself - eventually I became a radical anti-smoker. However my temper became uncontrollable, and remained so. Six months ago I started smoking again; I was waiting at an airport and on impulse (again I don-t know exactly why, perhaps simple boredom?) I bought a packet. Since then everyone has remarked how congenial I have become, relaxed and friendly... I have given up smoking at least 20 times, the longest was 6 years, so I think the long-term view demands consideration also - in other words not -how do I stop smoking?- but how do I manage in the long-term without cigarettes?-. For me, at any rate, two completely different kettles of fish but equally important. Smoking is a drag....
dont do it.

no one likes a quitter!
The only way to quit is to make up your mind and just do it. When you think about a cig then busy yourself. Find something to do. Put something in your mouth like a mint and think about something that can take you mind away from the pressures of the world. I just quit last September and its the hardest thing Ive ever had to give up. But its harder to watch someone you love die slowly of cancer. I did that as well...Good luck
PS think about how gross they are and the destruction they cause such as yellow teeth and stinky clothes. When you want a cig...smell an ash tray that helped me a great deal.
I was smoking a pack a day for 12 years, until last November. November 16th, 2006, the day I finally broke free from that open air prison that is smoking. Now I wake up in the morning with a smile on my face and a spring in my step, I take time to smell the coffee and play with my kids. I don-t look forward to the next cigarette anymore, nor do I dread the lenghty meetings, airport waiting lounges, Tube rides, flights, family dinners. I do not feel the guilt and the feeling of worthlessness that every smoker feels, whether they-ll admit it or not. I have never felt so happy. I am a changed man.
Last summer, by chance, I came across Allen Carr-s EasyWay to Stop Smoking. It is just a book, an easy to read, simple book. You can read it in a couple of days. It is difficult to explain or to understand how is works, but it does work ( well it did for me and many others). The simple idea underpinning his method is that we (smokers and non-smokers) are actually brainwashed into thinking that it is extremely difficult to stop smoking. Any smoker thinking about stopping sees Mount Everest standing before them while it is actually easy to stop. Hence the name of the method.
Allen Carr devoted the second half of his life helping others quit, having been a heavy smoker himself for many years. He died in December last year, a couple of weeks after I quit. I deeply regret not being able to thank him, because I feel forever indebted to him. May God bless his soul.
Forget NRT, patches, chewing gums, inhalers and whatnot. It is all BULL*****. Just read Allen Carr-s book with an open mind and a true desire to stop. I might just change your life...
Try a couple of websites, one is click2quit. Whenever I have had the need to smoke, I play the games. Also taking up a hobby is good which possibly involves your hands!!!!!. I know you-ve probably heard all of this. But also biggest factor is you know when you want to stop and if you don-t it will not work.
hi.

hi there ive tried to quit many times like yourself ive tried tablets, going cold turkey, patches etc. i also get very angry quickly and feel i-m missing something.

Actually i have just quit today so ill let you know how im doing in a week.

My best advice is to day 1 try to quit wait till about 6pm then have a smoke then have another couple before you go to bed.

Day 2 first thing you should do is put a patch on it sends your head funny and make you feel like you don-t want 1.

thats how i feel atm.

I-ve been smoking for 9 years and about 27 months ago i quit for 9 months when my wife was preg.

Now she-s pregnant again.

Failing my advice above......

have a baby that will help you lol.

Good luck and if your asking this question u know you need to stop nobody can tell you what to do. And you do have the will power to stop don-t let anybody tell you any different.

Cigs are not needed all they do is kill you and others around you.

Oh and 1 more thing the feeling you get when you take a drag (the warmth in your lungs) Thats suffication!!!

Good luck and keep in touch!
I know the feeling and you are so not on your own! I have given up 2 days ago and I am extremely stressed at the moment! what makes it worse is that I work in a pub and going for a cigarette is the only way I get to have a break all night and Im just used to doing it! lol ... so dont give up giving up and Ill try and do the same ... just remember you are not the only one who is trying and failing everytime!
Quiting an old habit may not be an easy task. With determination, one can kill the most stubborn craving. Eleven years ago, when I announced to my friends at a party that I was having the last pint of Guinness Stout, even I did not believe that would be it. But here I am today. I have long forgotten what alcohol ever tasted like. Within the first year of quitting, whenever I was in the midst of my friends who were still enjoying their beer, I had the craving. But I was determined to quit. My answer was to find excuses to stay away from environments that gave me intense urge to return to beer. I toyed with making shandy drinks which provided alternative taste to that of beer. Finally, I got myself better occupied with doing quite many things, and being faced with virtually no idle time. These proved to be my magic. I am lucky that I have never had any taste of tobacco because my dad never liked it. But with my experience with beer, I know how really hard it may be for smokers to quit. But if my experience and method were anything to go by, I strongly recommend self-determination to anyone who wishes to quit. Unless you personally have the urge and the determination to quit, no amount of external help can ever help you to quit.
Hi.

With 1st of July coming up, I too am attempting to quit smoking. I have tried all sorts in the past without any luck. This time I am going to try Champix. It is quite new over here but I have read some good things about it.

It isn-t a nicotine substitute but it supresses your desire to smoke, and apparently makes cigarettes less enjoyable if you do ocassionally give in. I found them online at The Online Clinic - a uk online pharmacy. You will need to have a free online consultation first though as they are prescription only.

Good luck!
I have been a smoker and know how you feel as i was the same. it will last for about 3 weeks before you finaly stop getting bad tempered. Don-t give in and keep trying to quit. i did it and i smoked 20 or more a day for 11years. then decided to quit it was hard and i was stressed but i had everyone behind me. i kept myself busy doing jobs and playing with a small piece of plastic.
1. Think -I-m not giving up anything - I-m freeing myself from a dependancy-.
2. Buy some dehydrated prunes. When you think you want a cigarette, suck a prune till the flesh has rehydrated, then eat the flesh, then suck the stone. It really helps.
3. Drink plenty of water. You-ll need to pee a lot, but that-s good for you!
Good Luck!
i feel the only way is to do it with someone else. that way you can praise each other. when you think you are going to lose your temper, maybe go for a walk.

Has anyone been prescribed Chantix and Wellbutrin to quit smoking? -

If so, did you have any side effects? My husband has been taking both of them for a couple weeks and he hasn-t smoked, but he can-t sleep, and now hes starting to get depressed and edgy at different times throughout the day. Does it get better or worse?
Honestly there shouldn-t be any reason for him to be on both drugs if he-s just trying to quit smoking. When I told my doctor I wanted to quit smoking I was giving a choice of the 2 drugs but I went with Chantix since it was designed to help you quit smoking. Wellbutrin is for depression with the added bonus of helping people quit smoking.

I-d honestly question the doctor on this one. There is no reason to take both. Chantix keeps you from having any withdrawal symptoms so there is no reason to add Wellbutrin on top of it unless he has a prior issue with depression or anxiety.

I wish your husband the best of luck! I started taking Chantix back in October (took it for 3 months) and have been smoke free ever since! Only side effects I had were weird dreams, upset stomach, and trouble sleeping. Only the weird dreams lasted longer than the first couple of weeks.
I was prescribed wellbutrin to quite smoking and it made me so dizzy I couldn-t eat and lost almost 10 pounds in a month. I felt awful and just stopped taking them (needless to say I am still smoking). A friend of mine had no side effects whatsoever though so, he should probably talk to his doctor about the side effects though, perhaps just a different dosage or combination could make all the difference...
Not sure why he would be taking both, but wellburtin is sulfur based drug and will upset his stomach and probably have a bad taste in his mouth. It will get better but till he is ready to stop smoking without drugs he is going to be moody. Also if he is depressed I would contact the Dr. ASAP its a side effect of the drug

I-m 14 and have smoking for about a year now. Best way to stop?
Smoking is more of a psychological addiction than a physical one. If you really want to quit you must discover the reasons why you smoke and then eliminate or change these thought processes.

Once you deal with the psychological side of smoking it makes the quitting process easy, no matter your level of addiction.

Quitting smoking does not require any patches, gums, hypnosis or anything like that. These methods are expensive, time consuming and simply do not work. All that is required is a bit of motivation, self belief and determination.

Good Luck and Good Quitting
Don-t buy any and don-t have any around you. Do something fun to take your mind off of them. Be active and be committed. Change your habits. Realize that in a week - 10 days the major cravings will be gone and then you can be so proud of yourself for this accomplishment! Use the money you would have used to buy cigarettes to buy something for yourself that you would really enjoy! Good Luck!

If you quit smoking and have a cigarette after 2 days sober is it like starting from scratch again? -

Don-t try to talk me out of the cigarette, I already smoked it, well half of it anyways. Preferably only answers from those who have quit smoking or gone through what I am. I quit cold turkey by the way.
My experience is that -it-s only one cigarette- is a slippery slope and before you know it you-re back to how much you smoked before. But you did it already, so pick yourself up again and just get back with it. Don-t quit quitting!
Also, I-ve found that the hardest milestones to achieve are the third day, the third week, and the third month. I-ve never made it to the third year :-( so I don-t know about that one.
Good luck!
Chantix. 35 yr smoker, 2 pks a day. 4000.00 a year. Been smoke free for almost 11/2 mo. with no stress or effort. Feeling great. Never in my dreams would I have thought it could be this easy to quit!

Whats a quick, safe way for a pregnant woman to quit smoking? -

the date of conception was the 18th, we need her to quit soon so it wont harm the child. we dont have much money for fancy cures either
My Dr. told me not to quit. Quitting causes stress and will harm the
baby. So I cut back to 5-7 a day. The result. 3 pregnancies, 3 big
and healthy babies. All because I listened to my Dr. His advice
benefited my children.
She needs to cut back slowly. My doctor really emphasized this with me. Quitting cold turkey can put more stress on her body and the baby than the smoking does. Have her talk to her doctor about a plan to cut back to quitting. Most of the stop smoking aides like the gum or patches still have nicotine in them, which enters the bloodstream and may be MORE harmful to the baby than the amount that she was smoking in the first place, especially if it was less than 1/2 pack per day. Btw...(and you can look this up or have her ask her doctor if you don-t believe me) smoking less than 1/2 pack per day reduces the risks of smoking during pregnancy by almost 100%.
I did not got pregnant (I’m a man and all...) but, I did quit smoking.
I-ve tried just about every method there is out there with zero success.
Gum patches and all the other just did not cut it for me, not to mention cold turkey which was the hardest, I even tried the electric cig and it is just no match to the real thing.
Eventually a friend told about an NLP method, check out this article
http://www.squidoo.com/Not_Smoking_Any_M…

It’s the one that got me off the cigs and smoke free for GOOD :)

Good luck kicking the habit!
J.
I just put them down. What I did every time I would crave one was remind myself that with every drag, I was putting that into my baby. My baby didn-t have a choice in the matter and reminded myself of the issues it can cause. It only took maybe a week before the thought made me nauseated anyway! I would talk to your doctor about it if you have trouble. Good for you for trying to quit for your baby!!!
every time you want one think that it will make you miscarry the baby, or of the baby being born horribly deformed.

sounds gross/extreme but i bet it will help.

if thats not working, then ween yourself off them over a few weeks. ie if you smoke twenty a day, allow yourself eighteen tomorrow, sixteen the next day, fourteen the day after that. is the best way to do it, and it should only take ten days.
Quitting cold turkey is a very bad idea. It will put her body thru withdraws and also put alot of stress on her which in turn is very harmful for the baby. She should cut the smoking in half immediately and slowly continue to cut back until she has stopped smoking.

Good Luck!
just think of the baby you are going to raise. and think about it. and just imagine what a terrible and unhealthy life you and he/she will lead if you smoke. and think of how happy they will be if you don-t smoke. they will be so proud and you will too.

or just some gum (:
The only way is cold turkey. The gum and patches still have nicotene in them which will pass from her to the baby. Unfortunately, it is already harming the child... tell her that.
there are some special gum to use for quitting it does work if you stick to it

good luck
lots of sex

How do you quit smoking weed? -

How do you quit smoking weed? -

I don-t drink
I don-t smoke cigarettes

But I smoke weed everyday.

I-m 21.

If I don-t have it, I-ll get a super bad headache.

How do you quit smoking weed?
And I smoke it alone...
Im going to be 21 next month - I smoked weed for ten years, the last 5 were everyday, I finally quit - have not smoked for a year now. It was hard to quit. I had withdrawals like no appetite bc I did not have the munchies, I was very angry - had killer headaches. It lasted a week or more - was the longest week ever. I quit bc I really wanted to. I threw all of my paraphernalia away - stopped talking to people who sold it. This sounds kinda cheesy but I just told myself no, I still think about doing it, but I still tell myself no. I also no I cant just smoke one, that I will want more - I cant just smoke one day - not the next, I will want to smoke everyday, so I dont start again.
hay there mate
have u found a way to quit smokin ..
im 16 and have been smokin weed every day for about 2 years

remember it-s illegal
you realize that there is more to life than getting high.
just stop.
Best way, cold turkey.

Like any other drug. It-ll take a lot of will power, good luck.

Look under marijuana withdrawal in Google.
get caught, spend some time in prison, and you can be somebodys butt-buddy for awhile, maybe that would deter any future desire and clear those headaches up?????
Other things may be causing your headaches and the weed just alleviates it. I would guess that either you have allergies/sinus problems, or stress, and the weed relaxes you/your muscles enough to make your headache go away.

Take aspirin/advil/tylenol whatever works best for you.

As to how do you quit after smoking daily for a long time.

You just quit. Weed is not really physically addicting. It is, however, mentally addictive and easy to convince yourself you need it.

The way I quit, I just quit. Avoid your seller. Avoid triggers such as things you do at the time you usually smoke (tv, radio, before shower, eating, computer) so, change your environment, change your schedule.

Every time the thought -I need a joint- pops into your mind, stop and out loud tell yourself, -that is a CRUTCH, I do NOT need a joint. I want it and I can live without it-.

Just realize that the desire will never totally leave you, pot is pretty damn nice in many ways.

But if you make up your mind to grow past this crutch, you can.

I, and many friends, that smoked for many years (probably more than you have even been alive) have quit, you can too.

After all, is your entire future and thousands of dollars worth being high.

Wasn-t for me.
Well, it is addictive, like alcohol, nicotine, sex, chocolate and many other things. But the simple answer is actually to put the marijuana down, walk away and never go back to it.

It-s really that simple.

Oh, you-ll get sick and you-ll crave it. So what. You stopped using it for a reason. Remember that reason, whatever it may be. Soon your body will have flushed out the toxins and you won-t feel sick.

If you need to, find something else to do in place of the drug. Go running. Paint. Dance. Sing Kareoke. It takes your mind off the mental addiction. And if you are really getting very sick, have a friend (who isn-t into the drug) stay with you.

It really is that simple.

Just not always easy.
go to therapy
Well, Alison Wonderland, people have their own ways of doing such things. But as for me (I smoked since I was 12= 11 yrs.), I could not do it alone. I gave my life to Christ and the Lord has really given me strength. It was hard, but He-s worth it. My depression is even gone! For the first time in my life, I can have a natural, spiritual high, without weed or painkillers. Praise be to God!!
1. try limiting yourself a little bit at a time
2. find hobbies or a job which will keep u busy so you won-t have time for it
3. learn about some negative consequences of smoking weed (such as lack of motivation, etc)
You just stop and you get headaches for awhile. It-s just part of the withdrawal. Eventually they will stop.
smoke ciggerettes.
slowly stop like little by little first just stop doing it on the week days and start doing it just during the weekends and then slowly only do it on Saturdays and then idk

at least you don-t smoke cigs or drink haa
Stop hanging around people that smoke weed and the people who supply you with it. I used to smoke weed with a boyfriend back in high school. When I broke up with him it was like magic... the weed was no longer around me!
You may get headaches for a little bit but you can-t get addicted to weed. Its not like your going to go through withdrawls.
why would you do a silly thing like that?
just stop. Weed is not addictive. In like a few days you will be fine.
Hmmm.
That-s a tough one. I researched various drugs once and surprisingly found that marijuana addiction is the only addiction that is mental and not physical.

It-s basically mind over matter. Once you run out, don-t replace it. Find something else (preferably something constructive) to do. It helps if you are acutally out of the house and that helps keep your mind off of things. After a few days without it, you will realize how much clearer your mind is. As far as the headaches are concerned, drink water and take one Tylenol.

I hope that helps.
You dont have to quit smoking weed, it is fun but dont smoke it too much cause thats bad. you should cut back that should help with the headaches, then one day just stop if u want, but id still do it here and there with buddys though thats the best. and did u no weed is better for then drinking and or smoking cigarettes, so its not that bad of a habit as long as u dont do alot of it because that will cause problems in the long run. ooo and make sure u floss everyday because smoking weed causes gum disease. even if u only smoke like once a week.
You could try coke or e instead. they-re way better anyway. haha.
Smoke a little less each day until you stop
Rehab
I never liked it from the 1st time I tried it so it wasn-t a problem.

Having recently (2 weeks) quit smoking is it possible my cravings have been replaced with a craving for sweets? -

When I was smoking, my favorite cigarette was the after meal cigarette. Now that i-ve quit, I have the strangest craving for any sort of sweets straight after eating. I-ll eat chocolate, ice cream, cookies, candy...anything I can. Is it possible these new cravings are linked to my quitting? I-m a 22 year old whose been smoking for 3 years...
When you quit smoking, your sense of taste and smell will be much more sensitive. Without the tar and nicotine residue in your system, foods will smell and taste better. When you quit smoking, you create a void that needs to be filled, and foods will start to look a lot better. Just be careful not to over do it, because it is very easy to gain weight. Congrads for kicking the butts! It is one big step to a better life.

What is the best way to quit smoking? -

Obviously anyone would say quit right now and don-t look back but for anyone who has been addicted they would know that it is not that easy. So please, someone who has actually been addicted and quit, what is the best way to do it with their sanity still intact? Should someone slowly cut back, quickly cut back, or really go nuts and quit overnight? Any advice would be really appreciated.
Hi Molly..

wow you got that right..nicotine is one of the most addictive substances known to man, and folks say walk away.. don-t they think we have tried that!!!

you didn-t tell a whole about your smoking history.. but you don-t have to, if you really want to quit.. there are any number of ways to quit, and all are successful for some.. you might first of all, try calling 1-800-quit-now.. they can often help you with advise, as well as often with patches etc..

I smoked for over 40 years, and tried most of the means available to quit, patches, pills, and numerous aids from health food stores.. none of that stuff worked for me when i tried it alone..

the good news is that as i type this response, i have been free from nicotine for over 5 years now.. actually that-s because of 2 reasons.. 1, simply didn-t quit quitting... and 2 ,I stopped trying to quit alone.. while there is really no wrong way to quit, statistics show that participating in a support group, can greatly improve your chances of success

I am a member of Nicotine Anonymous, and attend meetings both locally, and on line... on line meetings are as close as your computer, and your welcome to attend before attempting a quit.. however you decide to quit good luck, there is Truly no wrong way to quit..

Hello,

Due to the unpleasantness of the withdrawal symptoms, many people who try to quit smoking end up replacing the cigarettes with some other type of addiction. This may be an addiction to prescription medication, such as sleeping tablets or tranquilizers, or an addiction to food. While you will definitely experience the health benefits of giving up nicotine, no one wants to replace one addiction with another!

A healthy diet, adequate exercise as well as natural and holistic treatments such as acupuncture, massage and herbal and homeopathic remedies can also help the smoker overcome nicotine addiction. Herbal and homeopathic treatments are a safe and effective means to reduce nicotine cravings (without giving you more nicotine) and will also help to prevent weight gain and alleviate anxiety and irritability. Basically, natural and holistic treatments not only lessen the urge to smoke, but also help you to restore balance in your body.

There are a number of ingredients such as Avena sativa, Garcinia cambogia and Gotu Cola (Centella asiatica) which will help to address the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal. They reduce nicotine cravings and balance the mood.

Also, During stressful situations when you really need to blow off steam, squeeze a stress ball, have a work-out at the gym, go running, listen to loud music or phone a friend who can offer support
Sometimes something personal needs to happen. I smoked for many years and then I quit once for a week and said, -well, it is good to know I can quit if I want to!- I then immediately started smoking again. Then, back on 8/9/08, I found out someone I knew (who wasn-t a smoker, but hung out with smokers) had lung cancer. The fact that I was harming those around me impacted me more than just knowing it was bad for ME. So, I quit on the morning of 8/10/08. I used 8/9 to smoke the last cigs I had (I didn-t go out and buy new ones, but I did finish my pack). I haven-t smoked since and I turned to excersise as my new vice:). So, think about how not smoking is going to have a positve impact on your whole life, not just your health. Maybe that will help.
Molly, when your quitting smoking you have to realize you-re quitting a nicotine and caffeine addiction, so when you-re quitting cigs, you can definitely drink more coffee, because it helps a lot.

Some other tips from a smoke quitter:

lozenges are easier to use than the gum, in my experience, and have somewhat better results in studies. Make sure you follow the instructions, if you slack off and your nicotine levels start to drop you-ll go for a cigarette rather than a lozenge.

my uncle tried this and so should you!
1. find a jelly jar (or any little jar) and fill it half way with water
2. put some cigarettes inside the jar
3. shake it up and put the cap on
4. bring it with you everywhere a
5. smell it when you want to smoke
6. keep smelling until the urge goes away (warning: it smells AWFUL)
7. after a while, you won-t even WANT to THINK about smoking

hope this helps.
Well, when I quit, I used the nicotine patch. It still isn-t easy, but it definitely made it tolerable. It was more of the habit of having the smoke than the nicotine that made it hard, so I kept my hands busy, chewed lots of gum, that sort of thing. But there were no with drawl side effects with the patch, which was nice.

Good luck to you!
If you are open to new ideas then maybe look into an electronic cigarette. I-ve smoked for 36 years. I was off of tobacco cigs within days of getting one and am slowly working on reducing my nicotine level until I am nic free. Then I will work on the other issues we smokers have. The hand to mouth or oral fixation... whatever you want to call it..
Anyway its working for me. My last real cigarette was June 17th. I started out with 24mg nicotine liquid and am now reducing from 18mg to 11mg.
It-s putting my addiction in manageable terms for me. No discomfort or stress and I am the one in control.
If you-re interested here-s a forum link with TONS of information literally! LOL

depends on how many years u have been smoking - when u last stopped ur workouts..... initially try a lil jogging or brisk walking to start improving ur oxygen intake, when ur fit enough - r not gasping for air each time u do these exercises then ur ready to go in for a lil bit of weight training. any gym u join always mention bout ur prior habits so that they can plan ur workout regime better... best of luck... be healthy...

What are some good thoughts to tell yourself when you gotta put a cigarette down? What can you do instead? What are some things that have helped you quit. And did you succeed?
Depends on how long you-ve been smoking. I quit cold but had only smoked 8 years or so, but my wife needed Chantix to kick it (link at bottom). Doing it with drugs, gum/etc. can be costly, but remember it-s nothing compared to what you spend on cigarettes. Good luck!
Nicotine gum really helped me. Another thing is to not worry about your weight. I-ve read that a lot of women won-t quit or go back to smoking if they start to gain weight. The little bit of weight you put on won-t be nearly as detrimental as smoking. Avoid doing your smoking routines. If you smoke right after a meal, make it a habit to go for a walk or work on a craft at this time. If you smoke while on the phone, doodle or swifter dust! Good luck.
Smokeless for 15 years!
Take up origami.
I-ve been trying to quit for 6 months I started with welbutrin patches and nicoerrette gum .I cut diwn alot but now im on chantix and it works great. No cravings at all after 7 days
Since it is an addiction, try to replace it with another addiction which is healthy.
First, get rid of your ashtrays. Make smoking as inconvenient as possible.
The best time to stop is when you will be away from the usual situations when you smoke. For example a holiday or buisness trip.
It also helps to be occupied with something, to keep busy.
Find a supportive non smoker and stay around them, avoid smokers and places where there is smoking going on.
Get a Paul MaKenna CD.

You can say to yourself, do I want to waste money, look vulgar, get wrinkles, smell bad and ruin my health, or err, not bother ?
Stay busy and use a mouth spray or gum. Most people prefer the mouth spray, but the gum seems to be more effective. Good Luck!
Cold turkey has been shown to be the most effective way. Throw out all your cigarettes, lighters. Have the support of friends/ partners (As long as they don-t smoke!). Ring the Quit line. Maybe consider patches/ gum if you are getting really bad cravings. If you wanna smoke, go for a walk, go to the gym, do something else.
Some people need lots of help, others just put them down. If you know your will power level is low, call a hot line number for stopping smoking. American Cancer or Heart Association will have them. Plan to stop smoking by picking a STOP DAY. Tell everyone around you about the day. Get rid of all tobacco and stay away from areas that promote the smoking habit for you....clubs, friends who smoke, etc. Join a stop smoking group. If a spouse smokes ask him to stop with you or not smoke around you. Get prescription medicines to help you. Chewing the gum along with the medication has been more helpful then just taking the medication alone....statistically. Have friends call you to keep encouraging you. TAKE ONE DAY AT A TIME. Everyday is one small victory. Hug yourself at the end of each day to congratulate yourself...It is hard, but not impossible...GOOD LUCK! You are a very smart person for kicking the monkey off your back. You know it, now believe it.
rebbeca im trying also to stop well lets just say i can quit and what i do is i slowly slow down and take it day by day i gradually cut back and replace them wit sugarless gum it works i just get nervious or upset and i willl smoke.
hope it works let me know?
The best way for me was getting pregnant! Ha ha. Really it did work, but I don-t suggest it for everyone of course. Seriously, when I didn-t enjoy smoking as much as I did enjoy it, and when I realized it was controlling my everyday life (make sure I had mints, hand sanitizer, eat fast so I had time to have a smoke, etc.) I decided it was time to quit. The best way? Cold Turkey, no joke. I-ve tried everything, and when I just said no, everytime no, you get stronger because you are not leaning on a crutch of an -aid-, you are doing it yourself. Also, tell someone you know you are quitting, it makes you accountable. Don-t be around smokers for a while. They will just tick you off. And if you can, take up a hobby or project that keeps you busy with your hands. I started cross-stitching and making jewelry. Whatever you do, if you make up your mind before hand that you WILL NOT smoke again, and you-ll have a better chance. Good luck to you.
chew gum or use the nicoteen patch
my family just knows how to quit by just not doing it
I smoked 2 packs per day for over 20 years. When I stopped
it was recommended to me to increase your intake of vitamin C
and every time you crave a cigarette drink an 8 oz glass of water. If you follow this plan, you will have to visit the bath room frequently. I did this and was able to quit. Also during this time, you must avoid all alcohol and caffeine drinks.
My father passed away from Pancreatic Cancer at the age of 55 - because he smoked cigarettes ... and he wasn-t a heavy smoker ( about 5 a day ) - If you want to see your children grow up and want to live a long and HEALTHY life - then QUIT -

i suggest slowly reducing the amount you smoke each day ...
if you currently smoke 10 a day .. then for a week only smoke 9 ... then the next week 8 ... and the next week 7 ... and so on

or get the patch/chewing gum

Good luck! i really hope you quit!
While many people stop smoking -on their own- cold turkey, many more continue to smoke even after having heart bypass surgery, partial lung removal after being diagnosed with lung cancer, and quite sadly, after having tracheotomies (holes in the neck for help breathing) after having severe emphysema and being unable to breathe- something about seeing smoke puffed out of a hole in the front of the neck is quite disturbing. That-s the grip that smoking has on people...yes those tobacco companies know they-ve got a product that people will stick with. That leaves me in awe of those with the mental fortitude to stop smoking on their own. I could never do that.
I refer people to 1 800 NO BUTTS for help with stopping, and I would direct you your doctor for followup with stopping- If you want to add 10 or 20+ years to your life, this will be the most important life decision you will make...I promise you that.
I m sure your can find here

What do you think the best way to quit smoking cigarettes is? -

Can quitting smoking really make you gain weight? -

Can quitting smoking really make you gain weight? -

I am a smoker of 10 years and i have recently decided to quit smoking but i am afraid of gaining weight. I have heard that smoking affects a persons apatite and makes them eat less and so when they quit they can eat regularly again but if this is true i do not believe i will have a prob because i am a pig even thought i smoke, so if you could tell me what it is that makes you gain weight when you quit i would be very thankful!
Your taste buds definitely come back to life after quitting smoking. That will not make you gain weight. Overeating will. Good luck.
I think the reason that most people gain weight is because it slows down their metabolism which makes them digest food slower. Another reason is because a lot of people turn to munchies to help them when they are wanting a cigarette. It would be normal to gain a few pounds in the beginning but I wouldn-t worry too much about it. You could always just watch what you eat a bit until your body gets used to not smoking just in case but it-s totally up to you. Good job for quitting too!
The best thing you can do is start exercising. This will help you stick with quitting and help keep your weight down. If you have a big oral fixation thing going on, make sure to find something to put in your mouth that doesn-t contain calories. Chewing gum may help.

Yes, the average quitter gains a few pounds. But you can control that through diet or exercise and the extra weight is in any case less unhealthy than smoking.
Yes, and you should follow a program that help you not become fatter after quit smoking, try my way: http://free-quit-smoking.info
you will gain 10 pounds then a little later lose it its your body-s reaction to quitting

# walk thirty minutes a day, no excuses

# Ask your doctor for prescriptions for 100 milligram Wellbutrin tablets, and nicotine patches

1. For 1/2 a pack a day, take 7-10 milligrams

2. For 1/2-1 pack a day, take 14 milligrams

3. For 1-2 packs a day, take 21 or 22 milligrams

4. For more than 2 packs a day, ask your doctor

# On day 31: two days before you plan to stop smoking, take 1 Wellbutrin (bupropion).

Next two days, take 1 Wellbutrin each morning.

# Apply your nicotine transdermal patch system on Day 33 (this is your stop smoking day). Place one patch on your arm, chest, or thigh (replace daily).

# On subsequent days, take Wellbutrin each morning and each evening. Most folks wean off Wellbutrin between days 90 and 180.

Continue walking thirty (to forty-five) minutes each day; feel free to drink as much coffee or water as you wish.

# Phone or e-mail your support person daily to discuss your progress.

# Begin weightlifting on Day 37 or earlier Do not increase your physical activities by more than 10 percent a week.

# Decrease dose of nicotine in patch every 2 months (you can cut patches in half) until no longer needed
there is a shot available i have no idea the name or cost but it supposedly only takes one and thats it...you might do a websearch for quit smoking shot and it should come up...good luck
run and if you really want to stop....you would make sure that ALL, AND I MEAN ALL cigarettes are taken out of your house.
so whenever you have your head on straight and you-re in the heat of the moment of being determined to quit, take that chance to get rid of all of the smokes. good luck.
maybe if you have a niece/nepew or kid, think that you could kill them with your second hand smoke, or someone else-s kid. STAY STRONG.
well if you have a partner that smokes try to get them to quit with you, the support will really help, if they wont or you are alone on the quitting then think of how many things would be better for you in life. and don-t forget the patch and a side of gum if you need it, but you have to be determined...none of that cheating bull...if you feel the need chew some gum, or do something productive to take your mind off of it...
start running
Patch, Gum. If that doesn-t work, buy A week-s worth of cigarettes and slowly cut back making them last for 2 weeks then never smoke again.
The patch delivers a constant dose of nicotine in your system.
The gum scratches the throat.

The Commit lozenge seems to work pretty well, alone.
sew your mouth shut
Best way is to use the patch (make sure to follow it) and keep a stash of gum for emergency.. I had been trying for ever and ever and it never worked.. i tried cold turkey several times, but, I kept going back.. until the patch...

smoke free for 2 years now..
Gum
quitters never win! if you really wanted to stop smoking, just stop it without telling anyone ...
avoid people who smoke so they don-t make you crave it, keep busy
If you want to quit, you actually have to w-a-n-t to quit. I mean you really have to imagine the rest of your life without cigaretts and then go for it with 110%. Try telling everyone you love that you are quitting, that way when you do finally quit you wont be tempted to start again because you wont want to disappoint everyone.
And Ive heard the patch really can do wonders!
Good luck!!
...never start
im not sure what works best, but i know u need a lot of motivation and support from ur friends and family to keep u goin, but i-d try the patch and maybe some gum on the side, if u can find any that tastes good
The best way to quit smoking it-s just QUIT!!!!! that-s how I did it and it worked
patch and sunflower seeds
to never start smoking in the first place
Sleep therapy
the gum worked for me..i smoked 20 yrs..and had no withdrawal..i recommend it..
switch to gums when you feel like smoking...
stop buying cigarettes.
Set a date when you are going to quit, then quit. Throw out all your tobacco and related tobacco stuff. If you can, arrange to be on a trip or very busy so you will have other thoughts to occupy your mind. When you find yourself thinking about a smoke give yourself some MILD negative reinforcement, like pinch your forearm enough to be uncomfortable, or drop for 20 pushups, just some mild negative reinforcement your mind will associate with smoking. Do this EVERY time you think about a smoke. You are over the physical addiction in 4 days, its all psychological after that. It is actually pretty easy to quit smoking, they say it is hard to keep people smoking, but it is pretty easy. Congratulations, good luck, and if at first you don-t succeed don-t feel bad, just try again, and you will win.
What else do you like to do. Choose between your two favourite things.lol
i quit once, for 4 months. the patch made my cravings worse, no kidding! after i decided not to wear it anymore i felt much better. i-m about to quit again in 2 weeks. i have obtained wellbutrin (which is that mood stabilizing drug with the side effect of reduced cravings for cigarettes) and i think i-m going to keep herbal non-tobacco cigarettes around just in case. herbal cigarettes of course are still harmful (carbon monoxide, a million other chemicals..) but at least there-s no nicotine so i-m quitting 50% of it.
my dad has bin smokin 4 10 years and he has tryed 7 times and nothin worked then his doctor recomended that he use nicotine inhaler. it looks like a cigerate he would actually smoke it like a real cigarate for the affect lol!!!! but it worked for him i would suggest that u go to your doctor for more info. hes stopped for 2 months now
Stop buying cigarettes.
USE THE PATCH, its virtually impossible otherwise :)
cold turkey...come on you can do it, I have faith in you
You can buy packs of gum and chew it when you feel a sudden urge for a cigarette.
I have tried every method for sale and none worked. I finally broke down and went to my doc and got him to give me the Wellbutrin pills. They are working. I-m on day 7 of not smoking. I have some rough times but if I keep busy they pass and I-m fine. I chew straws and it helps. Something to do with that hand to the mouth action that-s so ingrained. I still would love to have a cigarette but the first 5 days were so awful I-m not smoking cuz I won-t go thru that ever again.

And how have you done it? I want to quit so bad. I accually quit a few weeks ago, lasted a week and a half :( I just want to be healthy and feel health again. Help! any quitting suggestions?
Its not just the nicotine. Its also the other 50+ chemicals they out in cigarettes. Also the main problem is habit.
We have been used to having body sensations which we translate as -my body needs something, which we have attempted to satisfy by having a cigarette.
When we try to stop smoking, we still get these -my body needs something- sensations, and we still feel that we want a cigarette. We have to train our body to be more selective. When we feel we need something, we have to work out what it is that we actually need.
A glass of water is an excellent substitute if nothing else comes to mind, as it helps with the clearance of the toxic substances in our body. Another good substitute is a bag of salted peanuts, used in combination with the water.
Another thing to do is to find an activity which occupies the mind or body. Go swimming - nobody wants to smoke while they are swimming. Slowly, as our body adjusts and translates the -want something- feelings into something other than cigarettes, then the feelings begin to go away. We know its not a cigarette that the body really needs, because as soon as we-ve had one we still have the feeling, and want another!
I quit 2 years ago. I knew I needed to quit but it just had to be the correct time, so one morning I woke up and said today is the day. I did it cold turkey. After 3 days I thought I have gone through a miserable 3 days so why would I start again and just have to do another 3 days like that again so I kept going. Not smoking is one of the coolest things I have ever done. Good Luck to you.
I quit smoking cold turkey. I was really sick with a cold at the time, and I just didn-t feel like smoking, since my lungs were all congested anyway. Then I just quit buying cigarettes and resisted the urge to smoke. Its really a mind over matter deal. You just trick your mind into thinking you DON-T NEED cigarettes, and that they stink and are disgusting... you have to want to quit more than you want to smoke cigarettes. Just think of all the money you will save! Good luck!
I started smoking when I was 13 (just to try it)
I finally quit (for the last time) 32 years later.
I haven-t smoked in 6 years.

The way that worked for me was part physical and part psychological.

I learned a lot from -Smoke Enders- I don-t know if they-re still around, but it teaches you how to identify your specific -triggers- (the phone, after a meal, when you-re stressed) and how to delay automatically picking up a cigarette. And... how to look at smoking and smokers in a different way. (It used to be so cool -- now it-s not)

On the psych side-- once I dealt with NOT smoking after meals, coffee, etc. I had to really look at what my triggers were and how I could handle them without a cigarette. For example, I realized that my main problem was when I got angry, I had to have a cigarette.

Now, I don-t necessarily recommend this -- but, I had a prescription for a very low dose of diazepam. (2mg) Once I had stopped smoking for every reason except that anger (at this point, i was only smoking 3-5 a day) I would take a pill-- if needed. (one a day) It calmed the anger, I didn-t feel like i NEEDED to smoke-- and after a week or so, didn-t want to.

I still have moments when I think, -Oh, man I want a cigarette.- But, I just gently tell myself, -No.- And then, it passes.

It is the toughest thing I ever did. And I-m more proud of quitting than anything else. (really).

It will happen for you when you-re ready.

Good luck!!!! You can do it.
Just quit.

Throw away your cigaretts...

Throw away your ash trays...

Throw away your lighters...

and QUIT.
ask your doctor to put you on the pill. it has help me. the thing with it is that you can still smoke, unlike the gum and the patch. what the pill does is that it completely takes away your cravings. after a couple of days on the pill, you find yourself not being able to finish a ciagrette, then not even wanting one. the key is that you have to continue to take the pill consistently for atleast 3 months. not bad since you have probably been smoking for years. the only side effects i had was dry mouth. but i carried around gum and water for that. good luck. email me if you want more info upfromnutin@yahoo.com
I used to smoke 20-30 Marlboro Reds cigarettes a day, but by using the nicotine patch, I was able to put out my last smoke and never have so much as a puff again. That was many years ago.

Once you decide to quit, tell yourself you are a non-smoker. Don-t say -I-m trying to quit- because that gives you the option of failing. Say you HAVE quit and are a non-smoker. It-s not as difficult that way.
I quit 27 years ago. At the time, I was smoking between 3-4 packs a day and could barely breathe. My doctor told me he would give me medication to mask the symptoms of bronchial asthma, but in three years I would be a weekly patient of his and in five years I would be dead. I never smoked another cigarette, and I quit cold turkey, the only way that worked for me. Hard, but doable. Good luck!!

Chow
i was going back to my home state. i stopped to get gas. got back on the road, reached for my cigarettes. i saw i had only 2 left. i had enough gas to get to my final destination and didn-t want to stop until i got there. i smoked the final 2 cigarettes before my final stop. that-s when i decided to quit, that my friend was 12 years ago.
I just kept thinking like you are how stupid it is to risk my life for something that you have to be addicted to,to enjoy.I quit a few times before it stuck. Now I have been glad I quit for twenty years.I am pulling for you.E-mail me anytime you need some encouragement.
my girlfriend is trying to quit at the mo and it feels like im the one going through hell!
Everyone is different. I quit 22 years ago. I started going to a class to stop smoking that the American Cancer Society put on through the local hospital. When they showed me pictures of healthy lungs and lungs that were from a smoker, it made me think about really wanting to quit. You just have to have the will power to say you are going to do it. They didn-t have the patches and stuff that they got now when I decided to quit so I don-t know how they work. Hang in there if you really and truly want to quit you can and will. Hope it works out for you.

Anybody used Chantix to quit smoking? Results? Pros and Cons? -

Has anybody out there in Yahoo Answers land used the new Pfizer drug Chantix to quit smoking, or know anybody who has?

I am trying to find REAL testimonials of how people have done - Various web site show that it has a 48% full quit success rate, which is unheard of (the previous high ever was 17% on Zyban)

Thoughts? Experiences? Ideas? Testimonials? Thanks!!
Chantix is the newest - most effective way to quit smoking with few side effects. For more Chantix information, please click the following link:

I-m sorry to have missed this question when it was first asked. I have used Chantrex and I stopped smoking after 4 days. I had been a pack a day smoker for 45 years. I had my last cigarette on Jan. 8, 2007, and have not had cravings at all. Good Luck!
