Why do I seem to eat everything in sight now that I have quit smoking cigarettes? -

Should I work out extra hard? Should I drink more water?
And still be able to eat what I want?
Don-t worry. When a person quits smoking for good they are able to taste the food better now that their senses are not clouded with smoke. Just make sure you make yourself a routine where you can eat what you want and exercise as well.
It-s withdrawal symptoms honey. When i quit my 30 a day habit i had to chew on something to stop from going nuts. Every time you get a craving chew on some gum or take a piece of fruit. otherwise you-ll put on weight. this is temporary - it-ll pass but you will gain a few lbs until things level themselves out. By all means drink plenty of water -Water is always good for you.
With smoking, you always had something in your hand, going to your mouth, so you are compensating by replacing the cigarette in your hand with food. Some people do tend to gain a little bit of weight after quitting smoking for this reason. Try carrot sticks or celery. If you could get something to wane your craving for nicotine, that will also keep you from picking up food at odd times.

Good luck.
Miss Erika, It is a nervous compulsion disorder. Yes,yes and yes to all three questions !
Its a duel problem...you-re eating because you have an oral fixation (food is replacing the cigarette in your mouth), and because cigarettes do strange things to your metabolism.

Try exercising more, eating HEALTHY stuff (fruits - veggies), and try chewing gum. Definitely drink more water.

Good luck ... and good for you for quitting!!!!
I had the same trouble. It-s the oral fixation thing as well as your body trying to replace the craving. You have to make good choices when you eat or you will gain a lot of weight. I gain 20 pounds before I knew what happened. Stick to high fiber foods that keep you fuller longer and YES, drink lots of water. That will help detox you as well as keeping you full and hydrated.

Congrats on quitting smoking.
One addiction replacing another; oral fixation. Do drink a lot of water to flush toxins out of your systems and just try to maintain a healthy lifestyle now that you-ve quit smoking--exercise, eat a balanced diet, take a multivitamin. Be proud of yourself for quitting, you-re doing a your body a great favor!
its all in your head hun!!!
just dont think about it
but now that u quit yes drink alot of water!!
You are substituting one addiction for another.
Try to keep a mint in your mouth, and keep your hands busy. The excessive eating is almost always associated with quitting. Good luck!
Your hands need to be kept busy. Chew gum and drink water. Sit on your hands so they don-t feel like they need to be doing something like smoking or eating.

Is it possible to quit smoking with out the patches or gum? -

it seems so hard to to quit and i really want too but every time i try something happens that really stresses me out so i end up smoking again
Every person that I-ve ever known to quit and be successful, did it without any type of assistance from the patch, gum, or drugs. You have to make up your mind to do it and just figure out what will work best for you.

I-ve cut down to next to nothing by allowing myself a certain number of smokes a day and making certain that I allow NOTHING to stress me out enough to smoke any more than that. Each week I subtract a few more. I count out my cigarettes for the day every morning and never treat myself to an extra smoke. So far it-s worked. I haven-t quit, but I-m changing my other habits and schedule as well, so hopefully I-ll be done with the nasty habit in a few more weeks. Maybe you could try some variation of this method to suit your lifestyle and be successful.

Good luck in finding a way to quit!
It is possible for some people, but as you found out extremely difficult for others. I know that I could never get past four months -- as in your case, something would stress me out so much that I-d start again. But I was able to stop pretty easily using the Commit lozenges, and then get off the Commit lozenges with Chantix (which wasn-t available when I first stopped). Both are documented to increase your chances of quitting, with Chantix having the higher success rate. And they make it less uncomfortable as well.
I smoked for 7 years starting in high school and all through college. I tried quitting about 10 times and I finally kicked it. You just need to find the best way for you to quit. For me I tried everything, those patches that never stick to your skin and the gum that tastes like crap. Really you just need to sit down and figure out exactly what is going to work for you and stick with it. I tried eating extremely healthy during the time I was quitting as well as working out. My thought process is this, healthy eating combined with work out equals endorphins. Endorphins equal happy people. That can lessen your stress levels and the withdraw factor. For me I tried to get to bed early and made sure I always had water and a healthy snack at hand, otherwise you are likely to start eating junk food and gain large amounts of weight. You can totally quit, just sit down and plan it out. All it takes it a little self control and the desire to quit, you can do it just plan to quit and stick with it and if you fall of the wagon just take it as a small step back and try again. Good luck!!!
You have to be ready to quit, it is harder when your heart is not in it,
if you are going to try again, take up a hobby to combat the stress.they say yoga is a good form of de stressing?
Good luck!!
Find an alternative way to deal with stress, like chew gum or run for a while.
Seems your addiction is more psychological.
I guess your not a quitter
i quit flat out one time because i had a really bad cold

What is the best way to quit smoking ? -

iver tried everything and can only cut down to 5 or 6 a day . what should i try next
Hi Bobby

wow been there done that..pretty much tried everything out there... patches, pills, stuff from the health food store.. you name it.. i smoked for over 40 years, the last 5 of those were continuous quit attempt..

the one thing that worked fro me was when i quit trying to do it alone, and joined a support group.. i attend Nicotine Anonymous meetings both locally, and on line... on line meetings are as close as your computer, and your welcome to attend before actually attempting a quit..

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine
There are also the electronic Cigarettes.

Now, the FDA says you can-t say they help you quit, not approved as a smoking cessation device, but a recent poll showed 708 out of 887 respondents said they helped them quit cigarettes completely.
http://electroniccigarettespot.com/eciga…

Just wanted to throw that option out there as well.
I just quit whenever I run out. If I couldn-t afford them. I been smoking for 10 years. I can-t even stand the taste sometimes its like they put something else in them. They now have programs on tape, DVD or VHS. Chew gum, Patches etc. Don-t even think about it. Mind over matter. If You mean the other stuff. I quit that a long time ago. Paranoid and tired. Some websites show what will happen to people that have smoked for a really long time. They will try to scare People out of smoking.

Try a toothpick, or just put the cigarette in Your mouth unlit and see how long You can keep it there. Try smoking 2 at a time and work Your way up. It might make You want to quit.
Have some self-control on yourself, there are some patches what helps you to do with that, or you can just drop the cigarette boxes on the ground and say I stop smoking, or the slow method:

if you have smoked once a day at least 2 boxes,

smoke next day 1.6 cigarettes

next day 1.2

and keep going on it helped for my family!
The government wants to ban the new E cigarette electronic cigarette not b/c its safe ONLY b/c it looks bad
People can smoke this E cigarette where ever they want to and its completely harmless BUT but non smokers still are pissed saying that it looks like a bad thing to do in public and it really nerves them SO the government starts listening to them and wanna stop this harmless cigarette from being sold
cold turkey, doesnt matter what it is. YOU do not need it, i quit many things cold turkey just all of a sudden say F*CK THIS and throw your pack of smokes out the window AND throw your lighter in the trash and NEVER pick up another ciggerette ever again. If you do not quit in this fashion, u will never quit.
Take one stick of cigarette dip it in milk and dry it in the sun let it stay for 2 days and then puff on it,you will throw up because it will taste so bad and you will never want to look at a cigarette again
Don-t try to give up smoking.....give it up, cold turkey.
Tell yourself you don-t smoke and reinforce it every time you feel the urge.
Worked for me.
The better way try to quite smoking is your Straight and control mind also mental pails for you to eat its very difficult to quite you have be stronger
You should try flavored tooth picks
Go cold turkey, but tell your friends that you are going cold turkey because you will be a very crabby person for a while.
Do not put them near your mouth.

This will make them extremely difficult to smoke.
kill yourself.... deap people cant smoke, well; they can if you set them on fire
I took Zyban for 2 weeks.I have been smoke free for 4 years now

How can I quit smoking? -

You can only quit if you have the mindest that you want to quit.
The easiest way (known from experiences and experiences of others) is to just go cold turkey.

If you have trouble with this you could always use the nicotine patches.
but the only way to truly quit is to actually want to.
Congratulations on your decision! Great job. I am an ex-smoker of 29 days. Soon you will be too. I am loving it. If you need support, get in touch.

How to quit: Please visit the greatest site/resource of all time. Use it and go back 50 times a day if you need to. It is free, it works and it is excellent. Here it is:

On the website: Start with the section, -MOTIVATION-, then go to -EDUCATION-, then -SUPPORT-. Go there daily or as often as you need to until you are quit. Read the book available there. Check out some of the blogs. Take all you can from it. I read everything on there and go back and visit it often. If you write them, they will write back to you, by the way.

Also the University of Pittsburgh cessation pdf workbook rocks:

Four weeks into the quit I wake up before my alarm goes off and feel great. I do not even need coffee anymore. I had no idea how bad the smoking was dragging me down. In two weeks, my blood pressure dropped 15 points--back to normal for me. Amazing. Everything tastes and smells great.

I gained five pounds and continue to chew a lot of gum and use a lot of Tootsie pops. I joined the gym to deal with the weight and can actually breathe when I go there to work out. Amazing.

Write me any time you need help, support, ideas, want to vent, etc. You can do it.
STOP BUYING THEM!!!

Does anyone Know how to quit smoking? -

I smoke about a pack of full flavored cigarettes a day, and I would like to quit smoking here soon. Notice I am not fully comitted yet to doing so; ) Anyway I was wondering if anyone had any ideas that helped them quit smoking? Iwould like any and all advice on this subject. The only people I DON-T want to hear from, and with all due respect, is the people that have never smoked cigarettes, because you can-t understand the addiction, and I don-t need someone talking down to me. I am 24 years old and I started when I was about 13. I did it to -be cool- Anyway I regret it and would like to stop. Any advice, ideas, and/or suggestions no matter how bizarre, I would like to hear them. Thank You
You-re smokin- full flavors now, a pack a day. That-s just like I was and you started like I started, though a few years earlier.

Here-s whatcha do...
First off, switch to Lights instead of Full Flavors. This will suck initially but believe me it won-t matter soon and this switch is good preperation for switching off. Even if you end up smoking more, switch to Lights.

Second, after you-re OK with Lights, change habits. Don-t chain smoke, extend time between cigarrettes, and most importantly, mix up the times when you do smoke. Example: I always lit up when I got in my car. I changed that to wait until I got home. I smoked every break at work. I changed that to not smoking the first and third breaks.

Third, severely reduce the number of cigarrettes per day. You do this by leaving your cigarrettes in one place at home. You don-t smoke unless you-re where they are and if you have a day off, don-t just get up and smoke, get up, eat, watch TV, rock-out to some music, then maybe smoke ONE Light cigarrette. Don-t smoke again until after lunch but keep occupied so you don-t feel the time go by.

Fourth, reduce to one cigarrette per day. It will be easier by then because your routine is gone and the habits are broken.

In addition to all of this, it helps to have a quitting buddy (someone to call when you-re about to give in) and a really good reason to quit. Think about what you can buy with that $5 or so a day you-re not spending now. Think about how much longer you-ll live and in better condition.
hello I-m a former smoker myself I smoked for 18 years I started smoking when I was 9 years old and like you I thought it would make me look older.my house burnt and I had smoke inahaltion I would literally throw up when I lite up.I used the smoking patch but there is side effects to the patch.you get depressed so if you don-t want to go that route go outside and keep yourself busy or maybe there is a support group in your area
Hey man all I can tell you is what I-ve experienced - that once you do quit don-t even touch a single one.
I-m currently trying to quit again.
I did however quit for six months in the past.
The way I did it was first I switched from my original brand to American Spirit, non-packed just loose tobacco which having to roll a cigarette every time that I wanted one contributed to me slowing down on smoking. Think about it how many places do you light up a smoke where you wouldn-t be able to if you had to roll it, then what if your- hands are greasy or dirty do you want that on your paper? NO. There-s one bonus. Two have you ever watched how fast a filtered cigarette will burn out with out even taking a drag? All the chemicals in those keep them burning plus the fact of having a wind port to feed the cheery ( Filter ) they burn right out I can literally smoke one after an other before I-m satisfied. Roll a cigarette by hand set it in the ashtray any way that you like and see how long it stays burning.
My Father once ordered a sheet of paper from American Spirit stating all the chemicals in a cigarette. The paper showed up. It was a normal sheet of computer paper. The front had a header stating The company logo - contact info. approximately an inch - a half down the page side to side no margins in a normal size print, immediately following was the chemicals in your regular name brand cigarettes. The print size cut in half, if you need glasses you definitely would of put them on for this. Next back to what I previously said no margins, you wouldn-t of been able to fit a hair between the last letter closest to the edge of the page. Side to side baby. No spaces between chemicals either just a comma separating the two,so you had to watch close to see the break between one chemical to another. From their it went to the very bottom of the page - when I say bottom I mean bottom, flip it over no header on this side from the tippy top to the very bottom once again no margins. It blew my mind. Sure you hear people say the number of chemicals in the average cigarette, but when you see it listed down on paper like that it makes your- head spin. Now American Spirit is similar to you going in your back yard and growing a tobacco plant, then just cutting - curing.
When I first started smoking American Spirit I did it knowing I wanted to quit at some point yet also I figured If I-m going to smoke I might as well do it as clean as possible. Now you-d think smoking a non-filter cigarette would be worse but no bullshit after a month of smoking nothing but that not only did my smoking decrease my lungs started feeling better. After two months even better then the last I couldn-t believe how my lungs were feeling. Before I felt like a smoker - now I really didn-t have that heavy lung, congested feeling that says yeah I smoke. Now knowing I wanted to quit anyway that thought started bouncing around in my head a little more, after the end of the third month I was just amazed as to how my lungs felt, I-m now getting ready to quit. I smoked for approximately another half-month woke up one morning and said that-s it!
I had to do it in the morning you can-t smoke half the day - quit. It wont work unless you just cant get any tobacco.
I want you to know I had tried numerous times before without accomplishment. So that day I first quit I went to work like always, the only difference for the first few days I ate my lunch - took my breaks in the break room instead of outside at the picnic tables where I always did. I probably could of though I figured temptation right now probably wouldn-t be the best, even though I probably would of been fine. Now however by the third day I went back to the picnic tables where I always ate - talked with all the smokers, the only difference I wasn-t a smoker anymore.
Six months later I get out of work, walk out of the building talking with a couple guys I worked with. We got to the parking lot and continued talking, while a couple more co-workers walked up - joined in the conversation. Soon after that a couple light up their cigarettes, and I being stupid really figured hey I can have one cigarette I haven-t smoked in six month I-ll have one just for the taste of it. Yeah right, that-s called some stinking thinking. I smoked one, soon bummed another and about an hour later bought a pack. All because I thought where I hadn-t smoked in six months it would be fine. Man was I wrong! So now here I sit wanting to quit again, and getting into the American Spirit tobacco once more. This time though when I quit that will be that there won-t be any just one thoughts going on, once I quit that-s it!
The last thing I need is to be lying on some bed fading away with lung cancer. And our wonderful government keeps the mass production legal. Should it be legal to use tobacco? Yes it should, but it should have to be grown by the user or someone they delegate to grow - cure it for them. Think of how many people would quit then, how many youngsters wouldn-t start. The one problem is our Government is to greedy for that.
So to wrap it up once you quit don-t touch them again, unless you want to be on here asking the same question again!
the new drug Chantix worked for me and I had smoked for over 30 yrs.get a rx.from your doctor.no bad side effects, just takes away the urge to smoke.good luck!!
Ok i know you said -you dont like answers from ppl who dont smoke- i might be able to help just follow these 3 steps

1.) pray (if your not saved you need to be) ask the lord to help you. You aint got nothing to lose think about it.

2.) buy some gum and chew on it instead of smoking all along

3.) like one of the answers up there ^ go to a hospital or a doctor see what can really help.

-Good luck

Hypnosis. It-s worked for a co-worker, her spouse still smokes - it doesn-t bother her. She just doesn-t crave them at all.
ive smoked for 6 years and have just given up, i tried everything, the patches helped me i found these the best and everytime i wanted a cig if u rub them it gives u a rush also, mints help inbetween, and also sucking a pen like u would a ciggarette, sounds stupid but helps
You have to really want to quit and do it because YOU want to stop...not because others think you should. Pick a date on the calender perhaps 2-3 weeks away. Be concious of when you-re smoking...write down the time..cut back everyday of how often you-re smoking and how many you-re smoking.
Keep yourself busy. ....join something to keep you distracted. When getting a craving....don-t reach for -food- to comfort you...go for a walk, or work out for a bit. Drink plenty of water....and reach for HEALTHY food when eating.
It-s mind over matter mostly...You have to self talk to yourself remembering WHY you want to quit and stick to that goal. You can do this~* ...but YOU have to want it bad enough. No one said it will be easy....and since you-ve smoked for many years...looking into being hypmotized may be worth considering.
I-m wanting to quit and have just gotten to that point, so will be starting My Plan of action...picking my Quit Date*...

Good Luck To You*(and to me lol) Keep on smilin*
...Remember........You CAN Do This* (mind over matter) :)
you can stop if you went to it is up to you just say no i do not went one

Good luck to you.
just quit I know that doesnt sound promising but my brother just found out he has stomach cancer and he quit cold turkey and he has smoked for over 35 years
Try sucking on lolly pops

it keeps your mouth busy, and can help you cut down
the patches and gum are what my husband and i are useing.we have not smoked for three days and i had the habit bad.i think about a cigerette but get busy doing something to get my mind off it.we keep regular gum to chew too.good luck--i wish you the best.you can get the patchs at any drug store.
There are a lot of hospitals throughout the US that have programs that are free - sponsored by the tobacco companies to help you stop smoking. The basic program starts you with your total cigarettes and you cut out one every day or two. I think that they use nicorette to help the cravings and a medication to help with the depression that comes from the depenency of smoking. The program lasts a few months and is very successful. Everything is furnished.
There are so many ways to quit smoking. Gum, the patch, oral medications, hypnosis...you just have to decide when you-re READY to quit. If you-re not ready, it won-t happen. You have to really want to quit for it to work. So it depends on your lifestyle - if you don-t like chemicals, try hypnosis. I would talk to your doctor when you-re ready, and he/she will be able to steer you in the right direction.
Good luck - it-s not easy!
I am a smoker of 17 years. I also started to be -cool-. I don-t feel so cool anymore. I feel like an outsider.

Anyhow I have some ideas but I haven-t really tried it out for I want to quit yet I enjoy smoking even though I know the risks.

I am going to mention one risk for you are a smoker and you know if not all most of them.

Peradontil (unsure of spelling) disease. This is where the teeth will become weak and fall out. Lack of flossing will cause this but smoking speeds up the process.

Ok now some ideas I have not tested...

Find something you enjoy doing to keep your hands busy such as forming pottery, coloring, painting. Do anything you can think of to keep busy.

Watchout for triggers such as drinking and smoking or coffee and smoking, driving and smoking. I could give you a million triggers that I have.

My Step Mom used chantex to quit smoking. It worked for her but it is not an easy road. She took her medicine, chewed on straws and would ask me for smokes. I refused to give her any. I would tell her sorry I don-t have any on me. She knew I was not being truthful, but was gratful later. My point here is I hope you have friends who can do the same for you instead of being an enabler.

Chantex blocks the receptors that the nicotine locks into. It is not by any means a magic pill. You will have to work at it.
My step mom has stoped the behavior part of smoker but she still needs nicotine. She doesn-t smoke but she does chew on the nicotine gum.

I think sometimes stopping the behavior and then the addiction is the way to go.

Think about... After dinner do we really crave a smoke or do we just enjoy having one after dinner. Driving down the road do we really crave it or do we just get bored.

Ofcourse cravings are there if we wait long enough.
Anyhow, since you have been smoking quite some time try stopping the behavior but still get your nicotine fix. (such as nicotine gum.)

Chantex is only given for a certain amount of time and then your done. Afterwards if you feel like you just have to have a cig. go get the gum.

Your doctor should be able to help you with a plan.

Myself I guess I need to work on will power. I feel I am under control of the nicotine. As far as will power I don-t have a clue how to get myself back in control.

All I know is my son was upset because I wouldn-t go on a school trip on the bus because I knew I couldn-t smoke.

I also couldn-t take home some silly little ginnipig becasue the teacher wouldn-t let it live in a smokers house.

My little boy hurts everytime when I choose addiction over him because he doesn-t understand.

(you may want to keep that in mind for your children or future children.)

Good luck to you! I know how bad this addiction can be.
I know it can be done because even though I haven-t given it a serious try others have and suceeded.
I-m glad that you mentioned the- talking down-, because that is a pressure, and a distraction that will cause the need to re-set the goal. A runner on the race track needs time to slow down after they crossed the finish line, well, for a smoker, the finish line is the start line and they need time to slow down.
HOW STRANGE!! I am the same age as you, and started at the same time. Now I am quitting. The patch didn-t work for me, so I started taking CHANTIX from my doctor. It is pill and has the best success rate so far. I am doing good right now, but my quit date is sept. 9. I tried other ways, but they didn-t work!!! Good Luck.
Stop buying the cigarettes, chew gum through the day and don-t think about it.

Its going to be a little rough, but its going to work.
I have been 8 weeks today with no cigs. I have alot of willpower and chew alot of gum.
Does anyone Know how to quit smoking? -

How many attempts did it take before you successfully quit smoking? -

How many attempts did it take before you successfully quit smoking? -

The key is not how many attempts, but how long. Just between you and me (lol), the magic number in quitting is -3.- You have to get over three -3- milestones: 3 days, 3 months, and 3 years. Once you get over the 3-year milestone, you are home free!
I don-t smoke, but my dad was a chain smoker for over 50 years, and tried to quit many times unsuccessfully. What finally did get him to stop, was the surgery for lung cancer at age 81. He quit three days before surgery and hasn-t smoked since (it-s been about a year and a half now).
it can take many times or even just once for someone ive tryed about 5 times sence i was 11 i am 21 now and havent stoped yet.... Sorry i couldnt be more of a help
None, I never smoked =) My husband smoked though and when I got pregnant I told him he had to quit within a month and he did, first try, I guess he had a good incentive though. Good luck trying to quit.
0 i didnt start in the 1st place so i didnt need to stop
I have always been able to stop smoking, I smoked before I moved to Spain to be with my husband, the day I moved over, I stopped, that was just over three years ago. I didnt start again until I was in prison, that was November last year, the day I got out, I stopped again, that was four months ago and not slipped up once
Don-t for one m inute think I-m a self righteous cow, I-d start again now if I could, but the fact my husband doesnt smoke stops me
Five
Several insincere attempts. Stopped first try using the patch (2 months). Then went overseas and immediately re-started. Haven-t tried quitting since. DAMN....Good luck!
I-ll get back to you on that if I ever decide to quit...lol..
Didn-t count.
One. I went from 2+ packs a day to zero in one day. I have not had one cigarette in the 32 years since. It is HARD but if you REALLY want to you can. Cutting down, special chewing gum and patches etc. only make the process longer and usually fail in the long run. Hold on to your hat and go cold turkey, its the only sure way. Good luck.
I never quit.

I can go without smoking for weeks but not because I try to quit. It-s not big a deal to me.
more than 10 and counting
good luck
I quit twice successfully during pregnancies....since then have tried about four times, and haven-t made it yet...but want to give it another go soon!

Good luck to you...just think of each failed attempt as practice.!
1... i was in the hospital with a partiaclly colaspsed lung closed throat came close to a coma...im highly allergic thats why im so happy ontario passed the law of ALL public places and 50 feet from doors is smoke free :D

I quit smoking 2 weeks ago-for the past few days my mouth amp; tougue feel weird, is this normal? -

I am in no pain, I have a funny taste in my mouth and my tougue hs a metal taste. Thanks
Normal indeed!

Your taste buds are now able to feel the taste again. It will take 3 weeks before you have brand new cells in your mouth and some more time before the epithelium of your mouth works properly.
Really? I never had that problem when I quit. But then again, a cold combined with bronchitis helped me quit smoking so that disabled most of my senses. I-m sure it-s just your tongue getting the tastebuds back or something of that nature. If it persists for another two weeks, I suggest you go to the doctors.

Chanix made me crazy... And all the other programs talk about changing my habits and surroundings but working at a bar means I am around smoke all the time which doesn-t help the quitting process does anyone know of tricks or were or are in the same situation as me I need advice
I am right here with you. I stopped smoking 3 weeks ago using the nicotine patches now I am having allergic reaction to patches and I am crazy without them. I just made up my mind that I am quitting. I am so determined to quit that it overrides any other emotions I have. Instead of smoking a cigarette to ease the withdrawal symptoms, I am hunting alternative ways to ease my cravings. I have heard people say there is a book by Allen Carr, I think is the name that is really good.
I can honestly say this is one of the hardest things I have ever done and people who have never smoked does not understand.
Get it in your mind, get mad, get tired of smoking. That is what made me quit. I love the benefits of not smelling like smoke and I really have no desire to smoke but the withdrawal symptoms are horrible.
If I can do it anyone can because I felt like I had the least willpower of anyone. You just have to make it through one day at a time and one craving at a time. And find what works for you.
Hey Amy,

I-ve tried just about every method there is out there and there is only one I can recommend - NLP! It eliminates the cravings.
Gum patches and all the other just did not cut it for me, not to mention cold turkey which was the hardest, I even tried the electric cig and it is just no match to the real thing.

-The Easy Way to Stop Smoking- by Allen Carr.

Helped me quit over night from having smoked 2 packets a day.

That I started again 6 years later is another story : )

You can read his works for free online. pdf - files:

I started taking -Champix- and its the greatest thing ever. There are 4 other people that I live with who smoke and I don-t even think about it. Its honestly like I-ve never smoked in my life.

Ive just quit smoking after 8yrs of heavy smoking.? -

I just quit smoking last Monday cold turkey after smoking heavy for 8yrs. i cant sleep at all I have maybe gotten 10 hours of sleep since mon. till now. is this the reason why?
Probably, but don-t give up!
As you are aware smoking is... the extent of how bad it is, is inexpressible, so persevere and if you struggle use patches. I think that would be better than just stopping altogether, at once.

Good luck!
i-ve always heard that you-ll sleep a lot if you quit cold turkey. but i-d bet that why give it a couple more weeks, good luck
Could be. Try taking some over the counter sleep aids. Good for you to quit smoking. Now keep it up!

How can I quit smoking? -

I have been smoking for 35 years and now I want to try to quit smoking
Have you tried the Commit Lozenges yet? My husband started with them back in Oct and as of today, he-s still smoke-free.

I was a smoker 15 yrs ago and I quit cold-turkey. I guess I was ready to quit at the time. I-ve never taken it up again.
I can-t give you an answer, Pal. I am a smoker, too - for the past 32 years and I-m fine with it. I plan to break your record of 35 years. LOL.
first u have to look at it for what it is, and why u do it,if u can-t find a reason to quit u won-t, so take a look at how filthy, and smelly it is, u can-t tell if you smoke, think how all u are doing when smoking is drawing the air u breath thru a burning smoking straw burning and coating your lungs,
I smoked for thirtynine years.I tried just about everything and what worked for me was Smoke Away They guarantied you-d quit in 7 days I quit in three it was still not easy the second week was really tough for a day or two and again at around nine months I have a very supportive wife that encouraged me continually. The trick is to NEVER EVER pick up another cigarette again I know if I did I would be smoking again as if I had never quit at all. I-ve been smoke free for three and a half years now Absolutley the best thing I have ever done. YOU CAN DO IT!!!
i quit 6 yrs ago, not really because i wanted to. i had too. i developed lung cancer they removed my right lung. when i decided to quit it was because i had too. i used the patches which really does work. but theyre so expensive. when i ran out i couldnt buy any . what did i do right i bought a pk of smokes. did this 12 times then decided to do it cold turkey. thats the best way believe me. this is a site that will be very useful for you. www.whyquit.com you can quit. i smoked 3 pks a day for 40 yrs. good luck to you and quit.
Just say to yourself i-m quitting, then quit.
I think you dont know how strong you are.
Try Chantix - You can only get it through a Dr. and it-s expensive, but 1st week I went from 1 pack a day down to 6 ciggs a day. You can do this if you really want to. It took me a long time to want to quit and then I realized I needed help. Because I smoked for 28 years, I didn-t know anything else but to smoke so getting help and changing is a big part of quitting. It-s very hard and scary but I found that if you take it one day at a time it feels better. I wish you the best on your decision.

Any tips on how to quit smoking...? -

Any tips on how to quit smoking...? -

i have been smoking for like two years now, i really think that it is gross and i want to quit. i say that im going to quit but then an hour or two later, im right back to smoking again. it stinks and it makes me feel really unattractive. got any ideas on how to make it a little bit easier?
I too am trying to quit smoking. I was smoking full flavor 100-s and smoking about 1 1/2 packs a day. I have lowered to lights shorts and smoking now only about a 1/2 pack a day. My suggestion would be not to grab a cig as soon as you get up in the morning and everytime you eat. Try not to pick one up just because your bored or think you need one. Wait until you just can-t take it any more and you HAVE to have one. Pay attention to how often you smoke. If you just had a cigarette 30 minutes ago, make yourself wait another 30 minutes. Also, set a goal that by a certain day you will be a non-smoker. And write down the reasons that you want to quit. Post the goals and reasons on the fridge or somewhere that will remind you constantly why you are doing it. Good luck sweety! You can do it!
God I sure wish I knew! Ive tried everything from the patch, to gum, to red licorich, to sugar free mints, to wellbutrin- a pill that is SUPPOSSED to help u quit. I think its a state of mind. If we REALLY want to do it we can do it. My problem is I dont really want too! Good luck to u!
Get a heart attache, stay in the intensive care unit for several days, and than be told that it is a question of either - or. That did it for me !
i gave up smoking 11 weeks ago (after 15 yrs of smoking)and i used willpower and sheer determination and loads of sugar free chewing gum!. i think i wanted to prove to everyone that i could do it (coz they laughed when i said i was giving up) and that made me strong enough to do it, as id tried it several times before but like you started again after a few hours. Also i kept looking at people who smoked and saw how old and wrinkly their faces looked and thought oh god ill look like that soon (im 29) also the obvious reasons to quit are money and health and its against the law to smoke in public places in scotland now so its difficult to get a decent smoke anywhere lol anyway hope this helps and good luck i really hope u quit for good!
Don-t buy them and you won-t have any to smoke.
Using the -patch- is the most effective. But you still need will power.
riddsridds, that won-t work, she-ll just cadge -em off other people :)
Try and stay away from people who smoke, if a friend wants to quit to it maybe easier.
You could try nicotene patches, or umm I can-t think what it-s called, it-s like smoking a fag but it isn-t, niquitin summet I think.
My bf keeps trying to quit, he has cut down, by rolling his own instead of buying packs.
my dad got hypnotized to quit smoking when he was younger
and from then on he never felt like he needed to smoke.. so try it. sounds painless...

or u can try to chew gum instead of smoke
This method works for me, I quite smoking 2 years ago
and is the only money back guaranteed.

Get the Facts
Easyway, founded by Allen Carr in 1983, has the highest independently verified 12-month success rate (75.8% for a smoker completing the program) of any quit smoking technique and a 90% satisfaction rating.

Compare Easyway to other methods and see for yourself why Easyway is called “The Cadillac of quit smoking methods.”

The Allen Carr Method
HOW THE METHOD WORKS

Using psychotherapy, the method works in the opposite way to the “willpower” method. It does not concentrate on the reasons the smoker should not smoke : the money, the slavery, the health risks and the stigma. Smokers know all that already. Instead it focuses on why smokers continue to smoke in spite of the obvious disadvantages.

It is fear that keeps smokers hooked!

Fear the smoker will have to give up their pleasure or crutch. Fear the smoker will be unable to enjoy life or handle stress. Fear the smoker will have to go through an awful trauma to get free. Fear the smoker will never get completely free from the craving.

The Method removes these fears
Smokers quit with the Allen Carr Method as happy non-smokers, not feeling deprived but with a huge sense of relief and elation that they have finally achieved what they always wanted….

TO BE FREE!

What about the terrible withdrawal pangs from nicotine?

The physical withdrawal from nicotine is so slight that most smokers don’t realise that they are addicts. What smokers suffer when they try and quit using other methods is the misery and depression caused by the belief that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch.

The Allen Carr Method removes this feeling of deprivation.
It removes the need and desire to smoke. Once the smoker is in the right frame of mind and they follow the simple instructions, the physical withdrawal from nicotine is hardly noticeable.

No Gimmicks!

The Method does not use any gimmicks, useless aids or substitutes. No nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, tabs, inhilators or nasal sprays! No needles! No lasers! No drugs! No herbs! No shock treatment!

The Allen Carr Method is successful because:

It removes the smokers’ conflict of will.
There are no bad withdrawal pangs.
It is instantaneous and easy.
It is equally effective for long-term heavy smokers and light smokers.
You need not gain weight.
You will not miss smoking.

Medical Endorsements

A personal view from Professor Judith Mackay MBE, JP, FRCO (Edin), FRCP (Lon), World Health Organisation Advisory Panel on Tobacco and Health

“I have no hesitation in supporting Allen Carr’s work. Many clinics use some of his techniques but it would appear that few do it in quite such a successful package.”

Carole Johnson, Coronary Heart Disease Prevention Unit, Tyne Tees

“his success rate was such that, when budgets allow, we continue to use Easyway for work with specific groups and individuals.”

Dr Anil Visa BSc, MBBch., FRCA, Consultant – Royal Hospitals NHS Trust – Royal London Hospital

“I have observed the Allen Carr method at first hand and have found it to be very successful and I wholeheartedly support it as an effective way to quit smoking.”

Dr William Green, Head of Psychiatric Dept, Matilda Hospital, Hong Kong

“It is a remarkable fact that Allen Carr, on his own admission a non-professional in behaviour modification, should have succeeded where countless psychologists and psychiatrists holding postgraduate qualifications have failed, in formulating a simple and effective way to stop smoking.”

Dr Martin Jarvis, Principle Scientist, Imperial Cancer Research
Fund and Reader in Health Psychology, University College London

”...I am more than happy to testify to Allen Carr’s enduring involvement and to recognise the value of the kind of behavioural and cognitive support he provides.”

Dr PM Bray MB CH.b., MRCGP

“I was really impressed by the method. In spite of the Allen Carr organisation’s success and fame, there were no gimmicks and the professional approach was something a GP could readily respect. I would be happy to give a medical endorsement of the method to anyone.”

Celebrity Endorsements

-His method is absolutely unique, removing the dependence on cigarettes, while you are actually smoking. I’m pleased to say it has worked for many of my friends and staff.”
Sir Richard Branson

“Some friends of mine who had stopped using Allen Carr’s method suggested I tried it. I did. It was such a revelation that instantly I was freed from my addiction. Like those friends of mine, I found it not only easy but unbelievably enjoyable to stay stopped.”
Sir Anthony Hopkins

GOOD LUCK!
There is many way to do that. First put in your mind what u want, look your own self without smoking, and put that image in your head, smoke your last cigarretein the night, and then put in your head the next day u dont want to smoke. In the next day DONT SMOKE ANYTHING, none, 0, off, destyroy, u got the meaning? after one or two days u will be better, the matter its just two days, after that if you smoke the cigarret will have a bad flavor, and u will dont want to smoke againg, i do this and works, i have 7 years smoking, and i can leave it.

Try to have some candys or chewing gum, is u have a desperate need to smoke, go away and think it twice. Dont be in the part where other people smoke
get the mints or the gum it tasted good

and have sex 5 times a week

I really need to quit smoking. Could anyone give some suggestions that worked for them.? -

I will read them all and take your advice seriously.
First you have to realize smoking is more mental then physical. 1. Decide 4 weeks in advance of a quitting day and stick to it. 2. Get rid of your lighter use matches instead, 3. Set up a place to smoke in one place only, 4. Change cigarettes down to a lower tar and nicotine,5. Do not have cigs with in easy reach, place them in a drawer 6. Put cig in opposite hand , change fingers too if necessary. 7. Do not light up that first cigarette until U R up for an hour and have had at least a slice of toast, then wait 15 minutes the first week after you have eaten to have a cig, then each week add fifiteen minute 8. During the day as you start having less and less nicotine, U will start feeling a little wrung out, drink 100% Pure Juice as a pick me up 9.after every healthy meal wait the times I have described above. 10.
when you decide to go to bed make sure you have your last cig and hour before you go. You my have to change you morning drink that You usually assoiciate with you cigs for a while if you can not, do not have them together, have either one first wait fifteen minutes and then have the other, but not together, You are tryin to break some old habits. The more you think about each cig the more you know when and why you choose to smoke it at that particuar time. If you can break the mental habits the easier it will be. The actual physical addiction is 3- to five days. Find things to keep you hands busy. As the weeks progress you will lengthen the time between each cigarettes from fifitem minutes,to half and hour to 45 minutes and then an hour. I want you to conciously write down each cig and the time you had it. By the time you are on your last week, you R more then ready. The day and night before your quit day smoke all you want and remember to follow the wait rules for the first cig of the day and after meals and bed time. On that last night get rid of ashtrays, matches and any left over cigs before you go to bed. Drink plenty of Bottles of water. You can do this. If you pray ask God to help. If you have any question or want to tell me your success story, e-mail me at charla1956@msn.com
Stop buying cigarettes!!!
I smoked for quite some time and tried about every remedy in the book. I found out after serious rationalization that my biggest problem was I did it because I was bored. It does relax you but like when I drove I had to smoke. I woke up and smoked to kinda get going, but if I had something immediately to do I would skip smoking until I was done. I struggle now with the occasional smoke but I am finding that if I psych myself out and keep myself busy it is working. Other than that spend the money and time on all th e-clinical- solutions. Mine was all in the act of doing it.
here some ways i heard and read :

1. Saying No. if you-re tempted keep saying no no no no until you are not temped anymore. if it helps you can shout .
2. ask for help. it-s would definitely easier if you have your friends / family member (who doesn-t smoke) to help you.
3 Save money. think about all the money you-ll have right now if you didnt smoke.
4.Exercise. doing exercise and other sports will help take your mind out from smoking. and it helps you get fit.
5.Pills. i heard there-s pills that can help you stop smoking.. i dont have much info about this. so get some info about it .
6.Do it for someone you love. if you have someone you love make him or her the reason why you are quitting.

well good luck ! hope it helped out !
I have heard of a patch called nicacure that has no nicotene in it. It is an all herbal formula that is supposed to trick the brain into believing its recieving nicotene. I heard it sgood but i have never tried it myself as i never smoked in my life.

http://www.nicocure.com/

i have seen a guy smoke for 15-20 years straight and quit cold turkey after the ear accu-puncture. He never started back up and the cravings were minimal. but dont forget to get some gum just in case.
I was a very heavy smoker for over ten years and I quit almost one year ago (July 17th!). The first thing I did was join a local smoking cessation class. They help you pick a good -quit date- and offer discounts on patches, gum, etc. It also helped that I was accountable to this group of peers every week. I decided to quit with the patch and I had a really positive expierence. It took the the edge off, but didn-t provide immediate gratification like the gum or lozenge would. If you go with the patch use it exactly as directed on the label. I can-t stress that enough. Statistics show the success rate is much higher when people stick to the recommended plan. I can-t remember how long I was on it, maybe 2 months. Quitting smoking wasn-t a pleasant experience and the first week was killer, but it kept getting easier and easier! The benefits to my health have been numerous (I had asthma) and I love the way I smell and feel. Mainly, I don-t feel like cigarettes control my life anymore. They sure used to. Give it a try - it-s well worth it. Good luck!!
I quit. But it wasn-t easy. 2 things ya gotta lick. Phy. and mental. 8 days and the phy is solved, hard but solved. But the rush that the mental gives you needs to happen in your dreams. I was still smoking in my dreams 3 months after I-d quit. Until I quit in my dreams, I still had the cravings. Then once I did, just like that I didn-t want one ever again.
Will power and determination.
Hello! I used to smoke very heavily. After trying all sorts of things I was able to give up using Self Hypnosis.I have a book called -Secrets of Self Hypnosis by Gilbert Oakley. In this book there are a number of exercises. My Spirit Guide Dr. Chang helped me.I would relax and repeat in my mind--Every time I feel like lighting up a cigarette, I will feel sick-. I did this over and over, and over.I didn-t think it had worked. That evening I was singing at the local club. I went in and in a moment or two in all that smoky atmosphere I felt really ill.I couldn-t stay anywhere that was smoky. That was 20 years ago. I neither smoke nor drink alcohol. But with any auto suggestion,youv-e got to really want to.Good Luck!
Cold turkey is the best way. Just toss -em and don-t get any more. That-s what I did. After a couple weeks I couldn-t even stand the smell of them anymore. It was worth the two weeks to get my life back.
Contact the Quitline and join a Quit Smoking Clinic.
You just have to make up your mind not to smoke and realize how much you dislike it and how much better you will feel once you quit. It has been 20 yrs since my last cigarette and I never looked back, good luck
I-ve tried several times in the past to quit, but my husband was also a smoker and having cigarettes around the house was just too big a hurtle. Last Labor Day weekend, he had a heart attack and that finally got his attention. We have been off cigarettes for 10 months. The patch helped us a lot. Getting started is hard, but you can do this. It-s hard to notice the benefits at the start, but they are there. You may not have had the heart attack yet, but treat yourself as if you are in recovery. It gets easier to breathe, you don-t stink from cigarette smoke, and you-ll have more money once you aren-t buying cigarettes anymore. There are a couple of things that happen that may surprise you. One is dreaming about cigarettes and smoking. The other is getting through the initial quitting period and hitting a day where you really want a cigarette. Keep a couple of nicotine patches in your desk for those occasions. Most times using the patch for one day is enough to get past the temptation. Good luck with your efforts. I wish you well

Hi. Last call, I really need to quit smoking. Any true life examples? -

I would prefer with no meds. Please helps.

Thanks a lot
The day was January 4, 2004. I had about 10 cigarettes left in my pack. I always bought my cigarettes by the carton. I pulled into my usual spot to purchase my cigarettes, asked for my carton of Winston in the box, I presented my $5 off coupon, and the clerk said -that will be $38.55 please- and I balked! I told the clerk that I had never paid more than $29 with a $5 off coupon, and she said, -mister, the prices went up on the first-

I looked right at the clerk, and told her to put the cigarettes back, and keep the coupon for someone else that needs it.

I walked out of the store, (it is a gasoline station) took one cigarette out of the pack, and crumpeled the pack and tossed it in the trash. I smoked that one last cigarette, and that was the last.

Cold Turkey.

I was a bastard for four days, but haven-t had a cigarette since.
I was 21 yrs old, thought I was Prego (I wasn-t though), and I got a threat from my little sister saying she would kick my butt if I was and was smoking. So I just quit. 7 yrs later, still smoke free! Wahoo!
Cold turkey, just like that! I would crave them, but I just started doing other things to get my mind off of it.
Good Luck!
The easiest way for me to quit was getting pregnant :)

works like a charm! :)
My uncle smoked three packs a day for 40 years. He was told by his doctor if he didn-t quit, he-d die. So he put down the unfinished pack of smokes and never picked them up again. That was 10 years ago.
If you really want to quit, then just quit.
I, too, joined a 12 step program called -Nicotine Anonymous- and to my joy, I discovered that there are plenty of people addicted to nicotine, just as I am. When I sat in the meetings and heard people talk about how they pulled old butts out of the ashtrays and lit them up, I felt right at home. When they talked about stealing or bumming other peoples cigarettes, again, I felt I-d found a new family. I accept that I am addicted to nicotine and that 100 cigarettes is not enough and 1 is TOO MANY. I gave my addiction over to the God of my own understanding and TRUSTED that I would not smoke, ONE DAY AT A TIME!!
If I thought about not smoking for 1 year or the rest of my life, I may as well go out and buy the damn things because I am an addict!!! I can do one hour at a time, one day at a time and for me, this WORKS!! I have been smoke free for over 7 years and really do not miss it. OH, in the beginning, I was a MESS, in many ways. I could not think clearly, I cried for no reason and for whatever reason, I started having problems with allergies. (My sinsuses were cleaning up and began to function as they were meant to) I-m here to tell you that if you smoked like I did, from age 11 on, the withdrawal can be very difficult. You may as well stick a hot poker in my eye. ;-) I noticed that some people in the group did not have as tough a time as I did and some were even worse off. (I thank God for the hard time I had since it could have been much worse) If this works for you, find a Nicotine Anonymous group and GO there. No one really is the boss and nobody -lectures-. We are all there to help each other, bottom line. We all know the consequences of smoking and if this addiction was a matter of -will power-, we would have quit a very long time ago. Who really wants to suffer from the effects of smoking?????????? I -admit- that I am totally powerless over nicotine, my life became unmanageable because of my use of this powerful drug. I came to believe that a power greater than me could help me overcome the addiction (one day at a time) and decided I would ask God (higher power) for help.
Well, 7 years, 3 months and 19 days later, I remain smoke free. I have saved over $30,000 since I quit (not all from not buying cigarettes), been on trips, have clothes (that dont stink),food (that tastes GREAT), can work out without getting winded. In general, I am LIVING life free from the ball and chain that is nicotine. I feel so good about myself because kicking nicotine is theoretically MORE DIFFICULT than heroin. (this is documented in study after study on addictions) I am no longer a slave to these things...they are NOT my friends and they dont help me feel better anymore. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!! Ask God for help and get with others who are walking a similar path.
Talk to your DR about Chantix. MY mother has been on it for about a month and she has gone from a pack a day to 3 ciggs a day. She was smoking for 47 years. That Chantix is a great thing. Good luck..
me..... I used to smoke 5 packs of Camels a day... And one morning at breakfast I just quit... Had the un used pack on the table for one year... I have now been clean for40 years and cant stand the smell of cigarettes
Here-s a true life example:

Have a heart attack, you-ll quit instantly.
Believe me when I say you don-t want to put someone -especially a loved one- thru the trouble of giving you CPR while you-re lying their dead with your eyes open waiting on the Paramedics.
It-s a question of mind over matter. You can do it if you want
to. Just say NO!!! Put your mind to it. Chew gum instead.
Make sure it-s sugarless though or you-ll get cavities.
Picture yourself being smoke-free and healthier. Take lots
of walks and get lots of fresh air.
people stopped long before there were meds available so it-s possible.
yes, i quit. it was hard but now it doesn-t bother me. it-s an addiction so treatment is good (not necessarily drugs)
I am in a 12 step program for drug addiction that helped me to also recognize and treat other addictions.

There is a publisher named Hazelton that printed literature for smokers a few years ago, maybe you can look up some info there.

BTW, I commend you for wanting to find a way to quit smoking without the use of drugs. Some of us recovering drug addicts feel that -maintenance- drugs are a disguise for active addiction.

The program helped me to stop relying on gambling, smoking, using drugs, alcohol and sex as ways to get through things that I couldn-t otherwise handle. And it doesn-t cost taxpayers a single penny.

I-ve been absolutely clean since July 6, 2004.
Please Quit! I have smoked over 50 years and told to quit many times. I never did. I have COPD and a spot on my lung was detected.
And I am Still smoking.!!! Do it for yourself and for your family. PLEASE........
my mom!!! She quit like 17 years ago but now has a severe breathing problem called COPD. I say you better quit now.
Well I don-t know if this is an option for you but I quit when I went through basic training. It was easy cause one, you can-t smoke and two, all the physical activity. Now I will admit that I was tempted by the smell of it on the drill sergents but after awhile ( a long while ) the cravings went away completly. Oh and I smoked for 11 years befor I joined.
My dad told us when we were kids that if we caught him smoking he-d give everyone in the family $100. That was a lot of money to us because my mom was a stay at home mom. He would have had to work overtime in order to make the money to pay out.

He started chewing lots of gum and running too.
I weaned myself from them. On New Year-s Eve 2004 I was out of cigarettes. To make things -worse- (it was a bad thing at the time), I was visiting my parents and I couldn-t just go out and get a pack, especially since I had to get the keys from my husband. So I went 24 hours or more without one. Two days later (a Monday), I bought a pack. However, I wrestled with the decision praying, debating, etc., before going in the tobacco shop. I felt guilty, even though I was enjoying the first drag of a fresh pack. It was then I decided to make that my last pack. I spread out the times I went outside for a smoke (since it was January and we live in Columbus, OH, the weather may have helped, too) and then only smoked half of it. The next time I went out, I would smoke the other half. By Friday near midnight, I smoked my last. Ironcally, it was after that my husband basically told me it was him or the cigarettes, as it was bothering his allergies. It was hard at first, especially since I think I was a habitual smoker, but it was worth it.

Not only do I loathe the stench now to the point that I can-t be around smokers when they don-t have a cigarette. One of my sisters-in-law smoke and when I do talk with her I try and keep the conversations short and hold my breath when I can. She reeks to the point that I don-t ever want her to hold my daughter. My father-in-law told me that she seemed to not care that she smoked with both of her pregnancies. She still smokes around them and wonder why they have health problems (in addition to their poor diet). My husband-s brother-s wife (who is technically my SIL, of course) also smokes. One of my parents-in-law said that she smoked during her pregnancies, too. She also smokes in the house and is probably quite clueless that her smoking severely hinders my BIL-s immune system, already weakened, if not non-existent, from cancer. I refused to go into their house before my pregnancy. My husband visited a few times, while I was pregnant, and I think he told his brother why I didn-t come in.

Also, last year, from August 2006 to 2007, my husband and lived in Michigan so that he could do his grad school internship. We kept our permanent address at his parents-. I wanted to vote last November, not for governor, but for Smoke Free Ohio. I-m happy to say that it passed. There were only a few smoke free restaurants where we lived in Michigan, about half of those had vegan-friendly meals. (I-m vegan, he-s an omnivore.)

Anyway, I digress. If you feel as though you need a substitute, try suckers. I found some yummy natural ones at Babies -R- Us before I gave birth. Since I wasn-t allwoed food during my labor, but suckers were allowed, I got those. Now I just pull one out when I think I want something. (I should start using them for combating nail-biting.)

I hope my rambling has been of some help.
If you see enough of the films and pictures of the diseased lungs and the films on the people suffering/dying of emphysema, I think you will finally get so disgusted with the dirty habit that you will quit!
YOU have to decide to do it for YOU. Period.
Before you go to sleep each night, picture yourself getting up in the morning as a non-smoker. Picture yourself eating, drinking coffee, etc and NOT wanting a cigarette. Picture how good you will feel and how proud you will be. You get the idea. This process has really worked for me for a lot of things.
If you can-t do cold turkey, then cut down each week. Only allot yourself a certain number. 20/day. Then 18/day. etc. It may take longer, but It may be easier in the end. There is no -right- way. Do what works for you!
concern a doctor there a medicine in the market for that
go cold turkey. it-s really hard the first few days, but it gets easy. try to think like a non smoker. find somethings to keep busy with. worse thing is sitting there doing nothing coz you-ll keep thinking about it. when you feel like you want one, tell your self i don-t need it. you have to really want to quit though.

you shouldn-t tell yourself that you-re trying to quit, you should just say i quit. don-t use the gum suppliment, coz you still think about it and they-re disgusting. if you really have trouble, use the patches.

seriously, after a few days, you get used to not having any.
good luck.
I had a heart attack when I was 42 ears old. How is that for an eye-opener?
I quit cold-turkey. Had to. My mortality had just slapped me in the face.
It was not easy but I did it. One thing that help...I chewed on a straw. Cut a straw about the length of a cigarette and stick it in your mouth whenever you have that craving or just hold it like you would a cigarette. It helped me alot.
Good luck and try to think of all the bonuses of quiting.
You will breath easier.
Food will taste better.
Your health will improve.
You may live longer.
You will save a ton of money!!!
cold turkey, just do it. its the only way. thats a true life example..
My friend quit by smoking all day the day before he quit and getting really sick. He hasn-t smoked for almost 3 months.
its all in that first 7 days, it is horrible you are edgy and probably going to be very angry at nothing. There is no sugarcoating it, that first week is miserable and there is no getting around it, after that first week you no longer have the physical withdraws such as bad temper. After that you will still sometimes think about smoking but not the same and you will think about how you don-t want to smoke, itll make you feel much better about yourself and how you don-t need a cig. The thought will always be there, like when you have a bad day itll always come to your mind to light one up, but as long as you don-t do it you have nothing to worry about! After not smoking you will notice your lungs literally feel cleaner, you will feel much more healthy and actually be able to sleep better at night!
I watched my grandmother die of respiratory failure... it was horrible. That was enough to get me to stop after smoking for 15 years...
If you want to bad enough you can do it!!!
good luck!
Hello Mick,

Ok. No meds, there is an all natural product that has everything you need to help you quit smoking.

My wife smoked for over 10 years and when she found out that she was pregnant with our now newborn 3 months old daughter, she had promised me that if I found a good solution for quitting, she will try her best to kick the habit.

Well in my spare time I started researching online for quit smoking programs, meanwhile she was trying out patches and gums that you can buy at grocery stores and adventually they would not work for her.

After about a week of researching I had stumbled over a website that really impressed me on what they had to offer and that they actually say that they can almost guarantee your success, and most importantly that you can try it out for free.

The company has been around for over 20 years now and they have helped over a million smokers quit since and their kit has everything that you possibly need to help you quit smoking, I thought WoW that is impressive.

I went ahead and ordered the free trial for my wife (only paid for shipping) and she has quit smoking in just two weeks and she doesn-t want to hear about or smell another cigarette again in her life :)

Now it is up to you, but since my wife has quit, I was so happy about her success, so much so that I had built a small review site of the product to also help other people quit, you can check it out at;
http://time2quitnow.com
if you want to find out more.

P.S. They do ship to Canada.

Thanks for reading my short story, I hope it helps, good luck and stay healthy.
Really?

Whats the best product out there to help me quit smoking? -

which product has helped you quit smoking best? i heard the patch was good, but i am also considering affordability and brand. PLEASE HELP. my new year-s resolution is to quit smoking before my birthday in february!
No product can make you quit smoking if you don-t have the determination to do it. I quit years ago cold turkey. Not all of these -crutch- products were around then but some were. The first few days were miserable but then things got better. Physical addiction is said to last only 24-48 hours so slapping on a patch simply prolongs this.

What finally got me over the hump was the realization that smoking is a ridiculous habit from a dollars and cents standpoint. For example, If you smoke a $7.00 pack per day and quit you-ve got an extra $7.00 that day or $49.00 by the end of the week and almost $215 by the end of the month. After a year you-ve got $2500 as a result of the simple act of not lighting a piece of weed and sucking the smoke into your lungs.

If you are 25 years old when you quit and you can earn 6% after taxes on your money you-ll have about $385,000 at age 65. Do you know how few people have this kind of cash when they retire? All you have to do to get it is to stop smoking! Keep your eye on the prize.
try a generic brand of patch, like life brand from shoppers drug mart (Canada) I am sure other big drug store have there own version Mine are 22.50 per week, depending on how much you smoke it might be worth it
Hi,

I quit this time last year having had a 30 a day habit. I-d tried and failed with allsorts until I a friend recommended this program - see below.

It also came with a 100% money back guarantee and has a 90% success rate - can-t say fairer than that!

All the best.

I feel that i can do that
Of course, the -best- way is going to vary by person. I stopped smoking cold turkey so to speak, and people hate me for it :). 4 years ago I bought a new car in early November. At this time I had decided that I did not want my NEW car to reek of cigarette smoke - it was time to give it up. After a decent, but relatively short battle with the physical withdrawal symptoms, I found that it was harder for me to break the habit than the addiction itself. I didn-t stop smoking the day I bought the car - I waited about 2 weeks. Standing in the wind/snow/rain to smoke instead of my car really sucked. Just dying to get to the next location so I could light up sucked too. Anyway, as I was saying, the habit itself was giving me the most trouble. After parking my car in the lot at school, it was just natural for me to pull a smoke out of my pocket for my 10 minute walk to class. The same went for the walk to the car after class and for the 20 minute break that the class took every day. I wanted to go stand with the smokers and socialize and smoke, but I wouldn-t let myself. There were also times when I would be caught off guard. Someone would offer me a smoke or toss me a pack, and I would pull one out and start to light up - not even realizing what I was doing!!!

Either way, I do not smoke anymore. I do suggest having a plan of action in case you somehow have an irrestible urge that you feel you can not fight. One effective thing for my uncle was to eat a candy bar every time he wanted a smoke (40 pounds later). My roommate just went to brush his teeth every time he lit up - kind of hard to smoke and brush your teeth at the same time -it sucks when you confuse the 2-. Okay, well anyway, I say GO FOR IT : ).. Cold turkey, warm turkey, whatever works for you!
It is HARD to do. But yes, it will get you to quit faster than anything else. You will be cranky, won-t sleep, will overeat, be fiddling with things, keep chewing on pencils, etc, and will constantly have the feeling that you want something VERY badly and nothing else will satisfy that craving.

IF (and it-s a big if) you can get through your first month without so much as a whiff of secondhand smoke, the rest is just mental. Your body no longer needs nicotine, and it-s down to breaking bad habits. This can be harder than getting the nicotine out of your system, though, so be prepared to keep yourself busy and distracted from unconsciously grabbing a smoke.

If you fall off the wagon, don-t kick yourself. If you have to, wean yourself down slowly before deciding you have the courage to simply stop. It-s a process, and ANY positive progress is good.
Quitting cold turkey was the only solution that worked for me. I just smoked as much as I could, to really make me understand how much it messed with me, (so much it made me sick) and on my birthday I had my last smoke. That was in Sept. and I haven-t had another since.

The key for me was making it a significant date, like my b-day. This way I am able to count how long it has been. I would suggest choosing a significant date and sticking with that as your last day to smoke. Make sure you don-t have any extra lying around. I made sure they were all gone first,so I wasn-t tempted.
It-s the hardest and the best way to do it. Good luck!
If, like most smokers, cold turkey doesn-t work for you there is a new medication that is specifically for smoking cessation called Chantix. Basically you take a low dose for a week, during which time you can smoke, and you should be able to quit fairly easily after the the 7th day (the same time the dosage will step up). If you slip up it probably won-t harm you (didn-t harm me on New Year-s Eve) although it-s not recommended. It costs about $95 a month, which is roughly the cost of a pack a day (Maybe far less if you-re in some unreasonably taxed state like New York or Illinois). It-s done wonders for me and I-d highly recommend it to anyone who wants to quit.
U mean to smoke cold turkey instead of cigarettes!
Please inform me if u succeed.
Cold turkey the only way to go..I smoked 100 ciggs a day..My daughter developed a dry cough from my smoking..Also give it up for a few days if you can and get close to a smoker and you will think, -did I stink like that- Carry a packet in your top pocket with a few ciggs in it, get the urge just give them a little pat and you will re assure yourself that they are there..Also if your friends smoke and want to know why you havn-t got one in your mouth, or worse still they offer you one, just pat the pack and tell them you just put one out..Good luck if you want to you will.

I want to quit smoking, but have a no success in it? -

I am also promising myself, no more ciggaretes, but always smoke than previous day. I have tried, all type of medication and meditation, but always fail to quit smoking. Please don-t suggest to me a hypothetical answer like this : increase willpower, believe in god, bla.. bla.. bla... I have tried all this before but can-t get a succes. Please give me a scientific reason to quit smoking. Thanks in advance. If you have (inspiration) story to whats could be wrong with smoking. so mostly welcome.
me and you in the same boat, but guess what there is progress in this field, there are studies that have examined the brain and which parts of the brain are responsiable for addictions, it doesnt really matter what the substance might be, cocaine, alchohol, nicote (a.k.a. ciggs) or porn, all the addictions are controled by a single part of the brain and its located in the central part of the brain, i think it was called the cortex or whatever, but it doesnt matter, they are working on new drugs to block the brain transmitters from relaying the addiction message to the rest of the brain, basically shut that part of your brain down with other drugs and lets hope those are not habit forming and these new drugs/methods should be availiable sometime in 2007, there is an article on this is the Jan 2007 issue of -Popular Science- you can get all the details there, but if you cant wait, there is a new type of quit smoking aide on the market than just launched from Nicorret, its a cherry flavored pills, its more like a cherry flavored cough drop, sugar also helps with quitting smoking, one last thing if you still have your wisdom teeth than now would be a great time to go get them taken out, cause after they take them out your going to be prutty messed up and drugged up, it worked for me for 2 months, when i got them taken out all the medicenes they put in my mouth to help stop the bleeding kind of helped me stop smoking cause when i left the dentist-s office i lit a smoke and i almost spilled my cookies on the sidewalk, so hey that might work and if it doesnt or you have allready had them taken out give that nicorret cherry cough drop a try and if that doesnt work than get popular science and read up on the new methods to help curbe or stop addictions and just wait till it becomes availiable, cheers and good luck mate
smoking makes your mind Weak!

I quit smoking and then did it again for first time in months...what to do? -

I quit smoking after about 2 years of doing it, and then I had a quick one on Saturday for no reason at all. Now I-m getting the cravings again. I-m getting headaches and everything. What should I do?
Whatever you do do not have another one!!!! I-ve done this too but if you have another one you-re screwed...The first one tastes nasty but you still kind of like it but the second one you have will get you hooked again cuz you-re used to the taste now. I suggest keeping yourself as busy as possible...do not get a pack of cigarettes and hide all your lighters. Don-t go around people that are smoking either...I found that-s when I got the cravings the most when I-d watch other people smoke and I-d remember how much I missed it. Take tylenol for the headache and watch a movie or take a nap. Do something you like to do that isn-t smoking and make that you-re new habit for a while.....soon it will get easier and you won-t even think about wanting to smoke really. Hope I helped. It-ll be ok just don-t give in!!!

My husband decided to quit after years (over 20) of smoking on and off. The last time he quit he didn-t use any medication (patch, pills, etc). This time he-s going to try Chantix. Our Doctor and the Pharmacist insist that this is the most effective way to quit. My only concerns are the side effects. Here is what’s listed on the medications website….”Some patients have reported changes in behavior, agitation, depressed mood, suicidal thoughts or actions when attempting to quit smoking”. Has anyone used this drug and was it successful?
My hubby has tried to quit with Chantix 3 times. I do think it is a great drug. He did quit for 3 weeks the first time, but didn-t know what to do with himself when his stress level was extremely high so grabbed his old friend a cigarette.
I do think he was agitated a lot while on the med., but I believe that was more from trying to quit than the actual drug itself. I have known many people this has worked for. I would encourage your hubby to do it if I were you. The side effects can-t be worse than what smoking is already doing to him. GOOD LUCK!!!
It caused me great sores in my mouth to where I couldn-t eat or drink anything for almost a week. It also caused me to go high potassium.

I was taking an ARB for potential hypertension and the combo nearly killed me. This is not a listed side effect!!!

I cannot take any of the antidepressants as they make me mean as a Mojave Rattlesnake in Molting season!!!

I am trying this by decreasing number and availability of smoking places every day!! Soon I should be out of supply and places I can smoke!! Then it will be -Cold-!!!

Good luck to your husband!!
I quit after smoking for 33 years by chewing Nicorette gum when I thought I would come out of my skin...after about 10 days I didn-t need it anymore...then the -habit- part of cigarettes must be broken and that is the hard part...why get an addiction to a drug in place of the cigarette addiction?
Yes a close family member of mine has and he quit within a few days, amazing. Good luck to him, I quit cold turkey after smoking for 7 years. But wether you need medicine or not quiting is the best thing you can do for yourself!
It-s a great drug....as in most cases you have to wonder if these ppl w/ the depression/agitation/suicidal thoughts were going to be that way if they took the drug or not......it-s a good drug...I-ve seen many positive outcomes. Good luck
I used it last year. It worked great I didn-t have any side effects! I think its just for a select few. I didn-t finish my 3months though and went back to smoking. I didn-t quit until i got pregnant

What to use to quit smoking? -

I need something that really works.
bottomline is that you have to make the consciencous (spelling? ) decision everyday to be a non smoker , no one else can make it for you . i quit 2.5 years ago cold turkey after deciding i didnt want to cough up nasty stuff anymore . be strong you can do it !!!! best wishes
you could use the nicotine patch.I have heard of people using hpnosis.
Talk to your doctor about that. It helps to know how severe your case is. But I heard gum works very well.
stay away from smokers, chew gum, start jogging
Hypnotist
The people who have the best luck and are completely able to quit just decide they won-t pick up cigarettes again. Regular smokers who are put in an environment with no chance of getting cigarettes have less withdrawel and other side effects.
nicotine inhalers
I smoked for 16 years. I tried many times to quit and failed. I actually quit for close to 2 years once, but thought about it every day. This time I knew I had to because it hurt to breathe. I had great support from my husband( you must have support from the people around you).I knew I needed extra help so I got the Smoke- Away system. You have to really want to quit to do it. Different things work for different people. It-s been a little over a year and a half now and I don-t miss it or even think about it. Don-t give up. And stay away from people when they smoke. It will only torture you.
I smoked for 30 years and attempted to stop on a number of occasions. There is no ONE method that works for everyone. Some things however should exist as PART of a stop smoking regimen.

1. YOU really want to. In other words, you-re not stopping for someone else.
2. Accept that the cigarette smoking is really an addiction comparable to some hard drugs such as heroin in its addictive -powers-
3. Smoking brings with it a number of associative actions such as Coffee+smoking and/or drinking+smoking and/or waking up+first cigarette etc. Try to identify these associations and consciously try to break the bonds. This can be as extreme as stopping to drink coffee or alchohol or change the time of day or place where you consume. This varies with the individual.
4. Learn to really HATE!!!! cigarettes. Try to put all your energy of disliking certain things and people into cigarettes. Most people know that ex-smokers are the most virulent anti-smokers.
5. Don-t feel guilty if you break down. It becomes a vicious circle of failure and guilt making you miserable to live with.
6. Break up your day in logical sections and only focus on some of them, not all. For example: The period when you get up, have breakfast then leave the house. The period when you are driving to/from work or school. Coffee breaks etc. Declare only one of those periods non-smoking and tell yourself that you-ll get your -prize- when the period ends. During that period look for a substitute action to smoking. Chew gum or a pencil or even nicotine gum in the beginning (this is for the oral fixation). Slowly at your own speed, increase the periods which are non-smoking.

The above process is for people who have a really strong habit and the idea of going cold turkey is just plain unrealistic.
try chewing tobacco hey its not smoking
The best thing you could use in order to stop smoking is your common sense.
It comes from you only. You first have to decide that you want to quit smoking - not need to, but this time you really want to. It-s easier with some help, and it is proven that programs or counselling help the most, and one of the best programs is at the website listed below, along with lots of free information to help you stay smoke-free.
will power and straws to chew on.
so people just have some one a round tjhem all the time have a pack of smoking thing and theyb try to get it they can-t because that person is not going to let them get it are get away with because they are trying their best not to smoke again that is what i think
a friend of mine used accupunture and has been smoke free for 4 years. good luck.
