I need a good gift idea for my mom, she just quit smoking! and joined weight watchers... any ideas? -

im really proud of her, but i am only a teenager, and only working a minimum wage job. i cant afford much. for christmas i want to get my mom something she can use, maybe something tieing into the weight watcher and her quitting smoking. (p.s shes lost 13 lbs :-D)
When I saw your question my first thought was: a new, flattering outfit! But I know that a whole outfit can be expensive, so maybe that-s not the best idea. Say -good job- from me! I-m so proud of all the healthy changes she-s been making! And you sound like you-re being such a supportive, loving daughter...bless you both!
get her a T-shirt for weight watchers, that will reflect the 13lbs that she has lost.(her size now) maybe you can get something printed on it.
To stop smoking: TARBLOCKS. My mom uses them and within a week I believe it was, we all noticed a big difference. Her breath smelt less like a rotten ashtray, she finds herself with more breath and isn-t worn out so easily as previously. TARBLOCKS usually run about $2 but they are seriously worth it.

To loose weight, Slimfast Optima. It-s helping me a lot.
sad to say this.. but i dont think she wud last the distnce... i am not pesimestic, but lots of pple barely make it thru 5months without the addiction re-0curing.
what i wud advice u is to stand by her when she starts failing.. b strong, supportive and yet VERY FIRM. take the cigarettes away, make her life uneasy if she eats too much, den smile n say u did it 4 her good.
a time comes wen we have to mother our own mothers.

buy her a simple gift...or a book.. wit pictures about the subject of struggles... something educative and relaxing
gift certificate for her fav clothing store, she-s gonna need new clothes, and dont forget to constantly congratulate her on the new decisions in her life as well as her new life becoming. It-s very important to keep it on track, your very lucky to have a mother so concerned with life!
I-m sure anything would be much appreciated, but you could get her something with an inspirational saying on it, and let her know how proud you are of her and it will help give her a boost when the going gets tough. Maybe a massage or something also would be nice. You can get a gift certificate for that, and they run about $30-$50. Or, get her a membership to the Y in your area. Maybe a dual one and you can work out with her! Good luck
how bout a subscription to a weight watchers / shape type of magazine. or any inspirational magazine - they have those great -real life stories- in them - about other women that have achieved great things like your mom. that might inspire her to keep it up! and you get good deals on mag subscriptions at this time of year.
My mom has been doing great also with losing weight. She said her main reward is to go shopping..so maybe a gift card to her favorite store will help. She can buy herself new clothes. Or try spa time for you and her together. My mom and I did that and it was wonderful.
I would say don-t get anything related to either of those things- let her know you-re happy for her, but that she-s not doing it for you. her success is her own and she will feel as if she has disappointed you if she gains the weight back and starts back smoking. k, sorry for the psych stuff... does she have a favorite perfume? a new purse is always fun, too
gym membership. especially around the holidays, health fitness clubs usually give a great deal on memberships.
buy her a nice hand bag.my daugther just bought me one and i love it.

Does hynotherapy works for someone who is trying to quit smoking? -

How many session does it include?
There are no guarantees hypnotherapy will work.

Some people are more receptive to it than others. Therefore the success or not of it will vary from person to person.

If you have faith in it then go for it. You know you-ll be much better off without cigarettes.
Hypnotherapy really doesn-t have much real world testing to back up its claims as an effective quit smoking tool. Here-s some of the methods out there, and the related success ratio. (Info taken from the U.S. Surgeon Generals Report and http://www.bestquitsmokingblog.com

- Cold Turkey: 3 - 5% success rate

- Nicotine Patches/Gum: 7% (Expensive)

- Order from doctor to stop smoking -or else-: 10%

Support program (SUch as NLP or various quit smoking programs): 30%+

Hypnotherapy isn-t on the list because there wasn-t enough reliable feedback to rate it. But based on the results here, you can judge for yourself which methods work best.
There isn-t a yes or no answer to this, hypnotherapy works based on trust and how much you believe. If you-re convinced that this hypnotherapist will cure your addiction then they probably will, if you doubt it then probably not, and hypnotherapy is not dangerous. xx
Hi I had 1 session and stopped that night from 40 to 0 I had no cravings no stress, I think you have to really want to give up, this was 20 years ago and I`ve never been tempted to smoke, best thing I ever did
It is fairly harmless but also fairly useless, fairing no better than placebo.

Quit smoking with zrero smoke magnets? -

Has anyone had any luck with the Zero Smoke magnets? I have seen this on Tv and the internet. I have very little faith in anything sold in this manner.

Thanks
I-ve never heard of zero smoke magnets. I quit smoking with the help of this article. I started smoking at 15 and quit at 24. Its hard but definatly worth it.

http://www.squidoo.com/How_to_be_a_non-s…

Good luck!
They-re a scam. Completely useless, but the gullible will buy anything.
Remeniscent of the old Bob Newhart sketch where he-s talking about Walter Raleigh selling cigarettes and says -Don-t tell me, you put it in your ear, right?-
Another cure-it-with-magnets scam.

Like the scam as the save fuel with magnets wrapped around the fuel line. But these were special magnets they said since these only had a north polarity. But these scammers missed the fact that the magnets could still stick together. Only north polarity indeed - complete crap!

I suppose if the placebo effect worked than it might be something but the morals are wrong it is still ripping people off.

To all the people trying to quit smoking!!!!? -

This is how i quit ( by the way its been 1 and half years and still crave smokes but no way)

smoke outside at all times for at least a year
didnt change any of my habits (quitting smoking is hard enough)
eat black licorice when i craved it(it numbs tongue like cigerttes
and smell others clothes when desire on
or smell an ashtray
thanks for the tips. I guest, it is more of a mental power just to kick that bad habit. As for me, I just stopped without any condition. But sometimes, you suddenly developed another bad habit, that is too much eating. That-s what happened to me.
I just quit 3 weeks ago, and smelling second hand smoke or a smokers clothes make the craving worse. I just went cold turkey. I-ve been smoking outside for 3 years, and I live in NY.

I-m pretty sure everyone finds their way.
good for you!
I quit about a little over a month ago.
I just went cold turkey.
It took a few tries but I got it.

Did you quit smoking without gaining weight? -

If so how did you do it? I really want to quit smoking more than ever. I have been smoking for about 9 years. I now smoke 20 a day.
I have tried the gum, inhalers and patches and they haven-t worked.
I have read the Allen Carr book and i think it is great and i now have more determination than ever to quit.....but i haven- t yet.
The problem is i am so fearful of putting on weight. I know that quitting is still healthier than putting on weight but it is so ingrained in my brain.
Does anyone have any tips? Thanks.
I did gain weight when I quit once, but I really substitued the cigarettes for m-m-s, etc, then when I ended up smoking again, the weight did not come off. You will not gain weight if you don-t go and eat handfuls of chocolate instead. I found that when I quit again and didn-t subsitute I did not gain any weight. But prepare with herbal no-calories teas, or similar, when you just have to have something.
I gave up smoking (after 41 years) nearly five months ago with the aid of patches and positive help from our practice nurse. I was truly serious about giving up and it hasn-t caused me the anguish I thought it would BUT weight gain is a problem. I-ve endeavoured to keep a close check on my food intake unfortunately to no avail. The nurse tells me to make sure I-ve quit the ciggies once and for all then concentrate on losing whatever weight I gained during the struggle.

I do wish I could be of more help to you but please do try to give up, you-ll be so pleased with yourself. Good luck.
i lost weight, i decided to join a gym and made a complete lifestyle change. im addicted to the gum lol and have the odd cigarette when out. You will feel amazing after a few weeks of stopping
Try and substitute smoking with exercise. You will feel a lot healthier and won-t put on any weight
Have you tryed Swedish Snus?.........i`ve not smoked for three months now on the stuff....and i had a 60 a day habit ?
I did,it-s hard but possible.Good luck
Yes, it is.
I switched to electronic cigarettes - worked like a charm!

Any one used E-z quit to quit smoking or another artifical cigarette? -

I am trying to quit. I bought Nicorette gum fruit chill and may order this e-z quit to use also. I know I cant smoke and chew the gum at the same time. I have tried wellbutrin but it made me break out and itch. I have tried and tried to quit - I dont knwo what else to do. If any one has used these let me know how it went.
I used the Nicorette puffer ... it-s expensive but, it-s been over a year now. It helps take away the urge by giving you something to do with your hands and gives you a quick hit of nicotene. I agree with the previous answer though ...I have a half dozen friends that quit cold turkey and they say it-s the best way.
easiest way to quit... cold turkey... no question...

just say to urself... i really dont need these cigarettes... they are disgusting... throw away the pack that you have... and dont buy a pack.. i mean u can bum if u need to... but dont but a pack!!! and if u do... smoke one and get ur fill and throw away the pack.. dont worry about wasting money cause if u smoke the pack u will buy another no question.. .so just throw it out.. now

i mean are u seriously as dumb as those 15 year olds smoking on the corner? they dont know better... you do.

Can you still get ripped if you quit smoking? -

Can you still get ripped if you quit smoking? -

Well, sure. You-ll have more wind and exercise should proceed quicker, if anything.
It would honestly help you get ripped if you quit smoking and even if u didnt you should quit anyway!
Smoking usually curbs your appetite and causes lack of cardiovascular endurance (shortness of breath, duh).
That-s a tough one, maybe you should supplement your addiction with a strict fitness routine and start becoming more conscious of your diet. It sounds like hard work, but it-ll probably be just as hard to quit smoking. Either way, it-ll be best if you worked on aerobic exercise first (jogging, walking, biking long distance). This is assuming you are not like an asthmatic or have lung disease. Oh, and if you want to get ripped, I-m assuming lean muscle tissue. So, aerobic exercises are still a good choice for that. And if you are at a low weight, sprinting can take off that last layer of stomach fat. I suggest tempo runs, where you jog at a rate without strain one block and sprint sprint the next. IT-ll probably look wierd if a random kid is sprinting down a block, but I usually do it with a cross country team and a track team. maybe a jogging machine.
Why not? All it takes is discipline, determination, dedication - work, work, work, work.

How to quit smoking and rejuvinate your body from it? -

i been smokin for 2 and half years and i want to quit and also i want to learn how to recover from the short endurance and the damage that was done to my body :D
When you quit, start to exercise and eat right. You-ll recover slowly, but will recover eventually. Two years is not that bad in the grand scheme of things. Good luck!

If you need a product to help you quit, check out this site:

Quit it. And drink plenty of water, have regular exercising and eat healthy diet, they will help. I quit it cold turkey for 45 days after over 30 years of smoking. Good luck to us!

How long should I wait to lose weight after quitting smoking? -

How long should I wait to lose weight after quitting smoking? -

I quit smoking on April 2 of this year so I have a little over two months quit now. Just wondering if anyone out there has lost weight after quitting and if so how long did you wait to -diet- after becoming smoke free? I don-t want to start to cut back on food too soon and end up tempting myself into smoking. But I don-t want to use my quitting smoking as an excuse to eat like a hog forever either. Oh, I-m so freakin- confused!!! Any REAL answers would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Just start some exercise it will also help get your mind off smoking and help your health!
Eat healthily at same time but dont be hard on yourself cos you are exercising so you are burning off what you eat anyway!
Walking for half an hour a day will do it! I lost weight that way.
Good luck! You are doing well!
Oh - for me it took 2 days to get the flames to die down a bit and 2 weeks before I quit smokin ... my uncle was a little worst - drown in a whiskey vat and was creamated ... took 2 weeks to get the flames to die down and a day to quit smokin -

he lost weight right away though ...

peace;

Aintmyfault
Congratulations on quitting! Are your cravings gone? Or, are they at least tolerable now? If you-re thinking about trying to lose the weight you gained, go ahead and try now. I quit smoking over 3 years ago and miraculously did not gain any weight, because I did not view food as a substitute for cigarettes. So, when I craved a cigarette, I just dealt with the fact that I couldn-t have one, rather than tried to substitute something else for the smoke.

Just remember - it-s better to eat than to smoke! It-s probably still hard now, but it WILL get easier.

Tell me your experience when u quit smoking? -

i had to quit cuz my lungs said no. i had a really bad chest cold that lasted 4 days (over my birthday dang it) and i couldnt even take one puff the whole time, by the time the cold was gone i gagged everytime i lit pne up, so i said screw it and never picked up another, this was 2 and a half years ago and i smoked for about 11 years on and off before this,
If you quit smoking for a little while then smoke a cigarette it make you light headed at least for me. But you will start to feel better breathe easier. You will be able to notice the smell off a cigareet from a long ways away.
I smoked for 16 years. Last year my father passed away from cancer. It make me take a good hard look at my life. I am a single parent with a daughter. I realized that I have to do anything I can to be around for her.

I talked it over with my doctor who had put me on meds and everything else and nothing worked. I told him I was going to stop no matter what. He said drink plenty of water to flush my kidneys of the nicotine that your kidneys hold and slowly release so you need more smokes. It was pretty much hell but after the third day I have not looked back.

If you are stopping or know someone who is good luck. It is not easy but it sure is worth it. I used to walk up stairs and then stand there trying to catch my breath...now I run up stairs. Another incentive is I think back over the past 8 months and think how much MONEY I have saved$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Good luck.
quitting sucks.............not much else to say about it .........feel 100% better once i quit though
My biggest thing was to learn to not get aggravated and angry, because I knew that would be my trigger.

I hate to run, but anytime i had a craving or got angry or annoyed I would make myself run/jog/sprint as far as I could.

So not only did I quit smoking I lost weight too.
This is not realistic for a lot of people, luckily I managed to quit at 22 (pack a day smoker 5 years, smoking for 10)

My only advice to anyone is, you simply can not quit for anyone other than yourself, so until you are ready in your head and want to- dont try because it only gets harder with each failure.

Im desparetly trying to quit smoking! The patch constipates me terribly!Any alternatives besides cold turkey? -

I-ve tried cold turkey, high fiber foods, laser.Nothing helps.I-m at my wits end!Want to quit sooooo bad!!!Please help!
Please try to quit smoking and do it cold turkey if you can. Try hypnosis.

My mother died in December from COPD, which is emphysema and bronchitis, she suffered with this for 10 years. It is a slow, suffocating death where you never have enough air to breath. Imagine going through life for 10 years gasping to breath even on oxygen.

Please quit smoking! You can do it. It-s all in your head-just tell yourself you don-t want them and they make you sick.
congrats on having the strength to quit!

my friends mom used this method:

every time you crave a cigarette, eat a wintergreen mint from lifesavers...they taste great and will take your mind of cigarettes!!

good luck!!
hypnosis
i stopped smoking when i became pregnant with my son, i did it cold turkey, but i did carry a cigarette and when i needed a puff i would puff away, only difference is that it wasnt lit! i also had an elastic band on my wrist and would twang it as much as possible to delay the craving. as a former smoker i find its the habit i miss and not the nicotine! good luck! dont try the gum its horrid!
Twin--you can level with us--woman???Right...Stop buying---throw away what you have--no such thing as a last puff. Drink coffee in the morning--quit...Coffee cigerette association. Drink beer or other spirits--same--quit. Smoking is no longer socially acceptable. You will never understand how smelly and stinky nausating cigeretts --pipes--cigars-- till you quit and then ask yourself why did you start in the first place...Weed is 2 times worse at ripping out the lungs. To help stop---clean your nicotine stained house--cllean your smelly clothes---clean your nasty car---Don-t paint over nicotine stains the brown will bleed thru
The best time to quit is when you get up in the morning and did not smoke. Now Quit --Never light up another.

Cold Turkey---Cold Chicken---Cold Duck--Cold Roast Beef
Call it whatever. Usually women who date and you smoke and promise to quit never do--lose the lady. The women know that. Smoke and be smelly cool or quit and have sweet lovin in your life.
Here-s a technique that really helped a friend of mine: she carried around a little jar with some water in it. Every time she smoked a cigarette, she, put the butt in there, to get soggy and nasty. Every time she wanted another cigarette, she first had to open the jar and take a sniff.

She quit in two weeks.

If you want to quit you can.
theres an injection that has a 70% success rate,i seen it on tv, talk to a doctor i cant remember much about it but no side effects and no risk.
Have you tried hypnotism? It worked for me really well, but my wife sitting right next to me and was even taken up on stage to prove that she was hypnotized didn-t work. I think it was cause she didn-t want to believe in it therefore she refused to try to make it work.
Try the commit lozenge. My mother in law was trying to quit and the lozenge was like a cough drop the gives you low dosages of a nicotine substitute. It was very effective for her. It starts off at a high dosage then decreases. You can find it almost every pharmacy.
There-s a medication called Zyban, it really does help you to give up cigarettes, you would however need a script from your GP.
I-ve tried to quite smoking at least 10x in the past from the patch, gum, cold turkey ( miserable), I tried everything. ..

The only thing that worked like a charm is this medicine called CHANT IX. Your Doctor has to prescribe it; you take this little blue pill once in the morning and once at night for a few weeks. The first week you are on it, you can smoke so the medicine builds up in your system. After a week and you try to smok because it-s habit; you will feel no stress relive, you will not feel it in the back of your throat, It will feel like smoking nothing... It is a miracle medicine! It blocks something in your brain so you will have no withdraw systoms and you will not have any desire to smoke cigarettes.

The habit of smoking is the hardest to break but once you quite you will feel so much better, barley cough any and be able to breath much better. Plus, you will have extended your life by a few years and save lots of money! Good luck, You can do it. Seriously check out Chant ix, it-s well worth it!
Have a peppermint each time you crave a cigarette, the craving will go away.

And to have lots of water, and the nicotine will wash out

Make sure you get a lot of fresh air and exercise, it will help your brain recover

have faith
If you can afford it, I would say accupuncture for the cravings and suckers or mints for the oral fixation part of it. What soem people don-t relize is that, yes the nicotine cravings a huge part of quiting, but then part of it is just having something in your mouth to keep you occupied.
control ur self bout dont quit cold turkey
10 in 1 day
9 the next
8 the next
all the way until u quit
keep urself busy don-t let yourself think about it!
instead of cold turkey you can do it in steps like one day you smoke 5 the next you smoke 4 and so on that-s how my boyfriend quit.
Speak to your doctor as he/she will be happy to make you stay off smoking.
Tapering off and self control. ~
There are so many different methods, patch, gum, inhalator... Go to your pharmacy and ask about all the different methods and you can see which ones works best for you, becos every smoker is different.
After being a smoker for 27 1/2 years I decided to quit. I found a MD in my area and had acupuncture done. At that time it was 6 treatments for 75.00. Haven-t had a cigarette in over 7 months :)
Contact the Quitline and join a Quit Smoking Clinic.
Chantix is a non nicotine medication that is supposed the help you quit smokeing. Try asking your doc about it. Its pricey but so are the patches

How did you QUIT SMOKING????? patces, gum, or maybe something else? -

I so want to quit smoking, but i-m not strong enough. I have to small kids, and i want to do it for them, and for my health.
I don-t think i can do it without help, like patch or gum.
What helped you? How did you do it? I don-t think cold turkey is for me(i wish)...
Thanks.
Perhaps a web search for -quit smoking- + -natural ways- might be useful.
My doctor gave me a prescription of Wellbutrin, it is an anti depressant. It doesn-t help with the nicotine withdrawals, but it helps you keep a positive frame of mind, so you can maintain the willpower to continue.

It was 1 month yesterday since I had a cigarette. I just didn-t give myself the option of not succeeding. When the cravings got so bad I didn-t think of it as a cigarette will make this feeling go away, I thought of it as time will make this feeling go away. If I can just stay strong, it will go away and I will feel better. Smoking is not an option!!!!!
Call the Seven Hundreth Club and pray with them. My mom did it and hasn-t smoked in 33 years. Just believe you are healed and it will be done and everytime you need a smoke believe you are healed from your addition and never give up.
Natailya, I have helped many people quit smoking and the first thing you should do is stop panicking yourself about how bad nicotine withdrawal is. Most people do go through a bit of initial irritability and edginess-but so what? If you are tough enough to take care of small kids you can handle a few days of tension. Exercise and deep breathing can help relieve that stress and help prevent unwanted weight gain. The most important thing is just decide to quit and keep telling yourself it is worth any temporary-your health and happiness are worth at least that much. Good luck to you!
I know a few people who simply ate oranges when they needed a fix.
They said it actually works quite well.
I had a friend who smoked two packs of menthols a day... he had AMAZING success with Chantix... I-ve heard it doesn-t work for everyone... but he didn-t even want to smoke after a week. My father also had success with it. I think it costs around $130 or $150... worth a shot, I-d say! Good luck!!!
Cold turkey! You have to want to do it. I tried patches and nicotine substitutes. They didn-t work for me. There as a new drug out that is supposed to bind to the nicotine receptor site.
I don-t remember what it is called, but it is being currently advertised on television and in magazines.
When you quit, you will need to clear away anything that you associate with smoking. Remember that when you get a craving, it goes away in a few minutes. Drink lots of water (nicotine leaves your system in about three days).
You will probably feel edgy for a few days, but this is the time to distract yourself by doing different things than you would be doing if you were smoking. If you feel the need to eat as a replacement, keep some raw or steamed veggies around to snack on. Most people have a tendency to gain weight because of indiscriminate eating.
I quit smoking in June of this year, actually lost weight rather than gaining, and I feel great.

Best of luck to you!
will power. i did it for my son. I just looked at his picture every time i wanted a smoke, and though, you deserve a healthy mommy. worked like a charm.
My husband and I set a target date to quit, and we both worked our selves up to it, thinking about all the nasties of smoking, smell , breath, dirty ash trays, yuk. We used the patch for the first week, but not after that, buy we had each others support. I smoked for 27 years and its been 8 years since we quit. Hope it helps
I made it for three months on the patch, not nearly long enough. I have heard good things about that new one...Chantix. I know a guy who was a heavy smoker and he has not smoked for a month now and has no desire to. Plus my mom-s boss has not smoked in over a year now which is a huge milestone, she quit with the Chantix too! I-m going to ask my DR. about a prescription! Good Luck, Those kids are great motivators aren-t they?
Don-t cop out with - I-m not strong enough-. Just do not put a cigarette in your mouth. Nobody is forcibly moving your arm and hand.
i quit cold turkey for my kids...just think how healthy you will feel. its better to suffer with quitting than to pay for it later in life...my uncle was diagnosed with cancer strictly caused from smoking...don-t just do it for your kids do it for yourself too!!!

What is the best way to quit smoking? -

WHY SMOKING IS TOUGH TO QUIT
============== ==============
Smoking is very tough to quit because it doesn-t only test your Will power but it makes your biologically addicted. It is not just a bad habit, but it is something you are bound with and will require either an extreme will power (which if you had, you might have left smoking far ago) or something that can replace that habit.

HOW TO QUIT SMOKING PERMANENTLY ?
================== =================
The only feasible way to quit a bad habit or addiction is to replace it with another addiction (This is what rehabilitation centers do to drug addicts)
You can quit smoking by replacing cigarettes with some non harmful product which is easier to quit later due to its lack of biological addiction.
E-Cigarettes are a good option, Chewing gum is sometimes helpful but not always and is harmful if consumed in large quantity.
This website
http://cigarettereplacer.com/
Has many reviews of smoking quitters and many harmless products to help you quit smoking with detailed instructions.
If you are strong willed, decide not to smoke. Take a pledge not to smoke and follow it and follow it strictly.
Alternately, avoid smoking (without taking any pledge). Gradually bring down the number. Smoke only when offered by some one(don-t spend any money on it). Don-t offer cigarettes to others. and you will soon find others avoid offering cigarettes to you. If you take a pledge and break it, you will feel guilty. If you don-t take the pledge but make a conscious effort to reduce it and stop it, there is better chance of success.
If you find these methods difficult to practice, and if you are still determined to stop smoking, take the help of any counselling centre.
I used to smoke for about 5 years and now smoke free for 2 years. I went cold turkey and took it one day at a time from there. You have to constantly motivate yourself to quit and keep telling your self if I don-t quit now it-s just going to get harder. After the first month or so which is going to be very difficult the cravings are not as bad and continue to fight off the urges. I-m not going to lie it-s been a little over 2 years now and I still have urges sometimes but I fight it off.
Good Luck.
cumon ur a man with six senses hw can u let urself be controlled by a lifelesss worthless cigar.. motivate urself.. u shud rule urself.. think of all the possiblities to quit smoking.. and all the benefits ur gona get by quitting it..
well I am on the same boat trying to quit smoking what i do is I eat some fruit or toffee and it has been working so far.
its your will power and strong determination h.k

After quitting smoking, is severe fatigue normal and when does it go away? -

I just quit smoking, and I am on my second day. Today, has been the toughest yet. I am severely fatigued. I have vertigo and stomach cramps. Is all this normal and does the fatigue go away on its own, or is it here to stay?
Day three is always the hardest. It does get easier from there. It-s completely normal to feel like your brain does not work anymore. This will get better by Day 7. In the meantime take it easy and reward yourself for everyday that you don-t smoke. Good Luck.
Yeah. I was going to suggest either having a quick smoke or shooting up some heroin. Whichever works best.
omg......i thought it was just me....i dont know how long it will last...as i am smoking again
Yes, I noticed this too. The best thing to do is have a quick smoke, that will wake you up.

Anyone else failed in ALLEN CARRs the EASY WAY to Quit Smoking? -

I read his book with such determination only to fail. I really want to quit but the book just didn-t work. Anyone else?
YES ... but i tried something that really worked and my friends have all gone as well.
Quitting smoking is extremely difficult. The withdrawl makes us not want to, but we know the risks and we know that they are not worth it. For anyone who wants to end their nicotine addiction, check out www.stopsmokingcleveland.com. This is the MOST effective method on the market. It is 86% effective and the details of the program are on the website (no signing up or submitting your information).

I tried this program and it changed my life.
I haven-t found anything that-s worked well yet.

Okay again i quit smoking, now i am coughing, have a stuffy nose, and can not sleep, is this normal? -

Please let me know if all this is normal when you quit smoking?
Insomnia and cough are normal when you have quit. It doesn-t last forever... it will pass and is better than smoking again.

Go for a good walk with someone before you go to bed, the fresh air and exercise will help.

The cough is your body trying to rid of the toxins in your lungs... all the gunk that is stuck to them from smoking.

I-m going to pass along a site I used when I quit and it was a huge help (its free by the way):

http://www.quitnet.com

Take the time to check it out... I think it will help you.

Can you make a person who doesnt want to quit smoking quit? -

If someone doesn-t show an interest to quit smoking or care to is it possible to convince them to quit?
How?
no you can-t. If they don-t want to quit they wont quit. Heck some people who want to quit can-t find the will power to quit
my parents used to smoke so i told them that i loved them and that i wanted them to be around to see my kids and maybe even my kids kids and (with help from my grandma) put together this chart thing that i would do something for them (like do the dishes or cook dinner or whatever) after so many days of not smoking and they finally quit! now i always tell them how proud i am of them . . .and so my point is that if you love this person tell them that you do and that you want them to stay around but dont put them down for doing it just put down smoking.
hope that helps :)
No. Respect them and respect yourself. But you can be sure not to enable them to smoke. Do not provide lighters, allow smoking in your own home/car. Also, do not reward them - do not kiss or hug them because of the smell/taste, or what ever works in your relationship.

Be consistent. Tell them in advance that you are imposing these rules for you (not for them) and stick with it. You have to respect their right to decide what to do with their own home/car/body. However, this will raise the price of smoking for them, which may or may not motivate them to quit.
i think its possible..my dad used to smoke..all i did was tell him over and over again wat can happen to your lungs and the rest of your body then i reminded him of everyone else in our family who died of lung cancer (which runs in the males on my dads side of the family) and last but not least i told him that he would die at a young age leaving me my mom and my sister....he completely stopped about a year later..he picked up this bad habit when he was 15 and stopped at 40
Nope.

A smoker - like any other drug addict - can only get off the drugs if they are genuinely committed to quitting.

You can-t talk a person into that kind of decision - they really have to reach a point where there are prepared to admit that they have a problem that needs to be fixed.
I have a cousin who smokes. I told him to stop smoking, but he won-t. So I memorized all the negatives of smoking and told it to him in his face. I also went online and showed him pictures of what happens. Even though he didn-t stop yet, I-m still hoping, and at least he-s a little more wary now.
You can convince them as much as you want but they have to want to do it on their own. My husband has been saying he is gonna stop for the longest and so far he hasn-t picked up in 57 days. That is the longest he has went without and I am so proud of him.
Yes,there are many ways to do this. One is to bring the tobacco leaves
grind and put in water, filtrate and give to that smoker to drink all of the liquid.Doing this sensitization for many times.Later, while that smoker only inhale the smoke,he will hate smoking.
it has to be there choice if its a relative or friend you could try an intervention type thing where you all get together and tell them how you feel you could show them videos of people with lung cancer but im afraid the decision is ultimately theirs sorry
yes you can if have a problem or if someone else does then put there cigars in a jar and if they try to open it then it will smell and that person will not like the smell so they will not want to smoke!!
you can-t makes someone do something. he now mentally needs tobacco in him and if you take that away it care really hurt him the best thing to do is bring him to professional help
Threaten them with something important.
or make a bet with them and challenge their pride
is that motivational enough?
No. You can-t make a person do ANYTHING. Don-t ever try to force your ideals on somebody else.
Not a chance if they don-t want to. They-re addicted to it like drugs.
No you can-t. So save your breath.
No. People have to be willing to do something, you can-t force them.
no....my uncle died indecember of lung cancer and to the end he swore it was not the 4 packs a day he smoked...he was only 51
no you cant, if there not ready then there will power is not in it

How do I support my husband who is trying to quit smoking? -

How do I support my husband who is trying to quit smoking? -

I am not sure how I go about supporting him during this hard time. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Serious answers only please.
Support him and don-t nag at him. Encourage him not to drink caffeine, to take a lot of vitamin c daily, and to drink a lot of water. Suggest to him to avoid smokers for awhile because their lighting up will stimulate his need to smoke. Suggest also that he carry something he can suck on to ease the need for putting something into his mouth after eating or when he takes breaks and at those times he would normally reach for a cigarette.

The big thing is to help him change his behavior without making it seem that you-re pushing him. He needs to feel your support and needs to believe that you-re trying to help him more than trying to keep him on the straight and narrow.

I hope this helps.
Tell your husband to ask his doctor about Wellbutrin. It helped me quit. I have been smoke free since August 2004. I tried everything before that and failed. Also, help by encouraging him to stay away from alcohol and coffee. They were definite triggers for me.
Just keep reminding him of the benefits and if he thinks he needs a cigarette, do stuff to keep his mind off of it.
give him your honest support..when he seems wanting to have smoke..offer him any food(his favorite) or give him a candy or gum instead
Reinforce his behavior when he doesn-t smoke, such as giving him a nice reward for each day he stays clean. Be sensitive to his needs. Throw away all of his cigarettes and hide the lighters. Be strict in monitoring if he smokes by smelling him when he gets home. If he smells like some sort of freshener spray, maybe you should get suspicious.
Just encourage him and don-t use any -you statements- that could sound accusing.
Just say -Hey, wanna cigarette? Mmmmm smells good doesn-t it?-
just be there for him , and understand when he has mood swings that , it will get better.good luck, and God Bless.
Just remember that if he gets upset or angry, it-s probably the withdrawl that is making him so cranky. When he does get cranky (and believe me, he will), don-t yell at him back.
If you smoke yourself, try and quit as well. That means no packs around the house. Try and convert his cravings for cigarettes into cravings for sports or sex or things you and him might like doing.

Convince him that your family would be happier in a smoke-free house and that your kids would benefit from him quitting in the long run.
cut him some slack. Fix his favorite meal and leave him alone! Let him take 50 naps for the next week if he needs too. He may get cranky with you but remember that it is the nicotine withdraw and not to argue back. Let him win the arguements. Don-t create any stress with him. Just for a week! DON-T NAG!!!! if he lights back up don-t say anything. He will feel just as bad lighting up and he doesn-t want you reminding him.

What is the best way to quit smoking I am 20 and I-ve been smoking for 6 years I know I started early nasty habit. I-m ready to quit I think. What are some ways cold turkey does not help!

Cold turkey is a tough way to do it, but works for many people. There are other methods that work, some better than others.

Some of the most widely publicized methods are patches, gum, nasal sprays and prescription drugs. Although none of these methods deal with the psychological addiction which is much stronger than the physical addiction. (Within 72 hours after your last smoke, nicotine is out of your system and your body is actively adapting)

Then you have Hypnosis, Cognitive behavioural therapy, counseling and other similar methods that help you deal with the psychological addiction. While these don-t deal with the physical addiction, they do teach you how to cope with cravings, withdrawal, and other common issues.
I smoked a pack a day for over 17 years. That is over 120,000 cigarettes. I quit cold turkey 2 1/2 years ago. I pray to god every day that I quit in time. Lung cancer is a certain death, a painful death, a death so painful that it will comfort you to know you will die quickly. Emphysema is a certain death, a slow miserable death. Ever inhale water in the swimming pool? Get choked on water? Imagine that feeling every moment of every day and night for the last year or two of your life. There is no cure for lung cancer or emphysema. You get it, you will die. Smoking causes both of these. Think about your death and how you would like fo itr to be each time you light up. You may be only one cigarette away from setting it in motion.
Quitting is not easy. Look for something that works for you. But do quit.
Well, first of all you stink and your teeth are beComing more and more yellow. wrinkles Are creepiNg but you just Can’t seE them with all that smoke in youR face. You are a slave to cigarettes; a little stick of CANCER, and if you keep letting it dictate your will and your control you will not even be able to run away from it because you’ll be too out of breath. Eventually, you may want children; I think you know all that that involves... I smoked for many many years. On January 29th 2004 I quit Cold turkey After my luNg Collapsed, I was 31 yEaRs old. I had to have a tube hanging out of my freaking lung for a while so that air could be blown back into my lung. And my doctor told me I have emphezema. SOOOOOOO, you are 20 y.o. and already talking of quitting, don’t make it long before you just deal with quitting. Once that 1st week is done, you’ll be so proud and the worst will be done. Take it one minute at a time, or one hour, or whatever, but do what works. Play with it, make a game out of it. Replace it with exciting stuff. Reward yourself when you skip one or a whole bunch. Pray for strength. Know that you can and you will do it and know how proud you’ll be. And quite honestly, I truly thought it would be really hard and I’d get sick cravings, but neither are true. It’s just to start stopping that is scarry...Just Breathe
you should consult a doctor whenever you feel the urge to smoke take a choclate take something in your hand think about all the bad affects of smoking decide wether life is more inportant or smoking take a walk in the park in the evening or morning specially inhale fresh air .
I used this site when I quit and it helped me out big time. Lots of good info, support, ideas, ways to quit, what to expect, etc. Its free too which helps!

Take a good half hour to poke around the site.

Easy ways to quit smoking? -

Other then cold turkey which gives me headaches and insomnia for a month!
Your hair will smell good and so will your clothing.
Believe it or not people around you can smell it.
Do you smoke in the car, inside or outside after meals, before meals etc..?
Whenever you usually smoke begin to start to cut out those times and replace them with slowly with other things.
For example if you smoke in the car cut that out.
If in the house stop that.
If you smoke after a meal no longer do.
Just one step at a time for each little habitual thing you have been doing to pick up a cigarette.
If you do it out of boredom sometimes try to think of something you can do to take up that time instead of picking up the cigarette.
If it is a social thing perhaps you can try to pick up a cup of water or coffee or juice instead and start downing that instead.
It is an oral fixation and you need to keep the mouth busy.
Something i try to do sometimes is actually put the cigarette in my mouth but not smoke it at a time when i usually would or even go for a quick but short walk.
If you are having major headaches and problems with sleep this could be withdrawal symptoms and you might want to discuss an option with your doctor about giving you a pill that will help with cravings.
This medicine is only taken for a short time and will help you to prevent cravings and if you smoke you will have a distaste for them and eventually not even want one.

Some people cannot quit cold turkey and others can.
Brushing your teeth regularly helps also right after you smoke or again when you want to smoke. Again something to take care of the oral fixation. Pick up a hobby. I picked up dancing. Perhaps you have a craft and if you not find something you enjoy or have always wished to do and just GO FOR IT! You might be surprised at how quickly you end up getting involved and forget all about smoking.
Good luck and don-t be hard on yourself if you pick up one along the way. After a time you will think it tastes gross.
Oh one more thing. Pick up a brand you normally would not smoke that is nasty. That is a way i kind of started to have a distaste for them. Some of those brands will make you sick enough not to even want one anymore! LOL
Things to Keep in Mind to get Ready

? In 20 minutes your blood pressure will drop back down to normal.
? In 8 hours the carbon monoxide (a toxic gas) levels in your blood stream will drop by half, and oxygen levels will return to normal.
? In 48 hours your chance of having a heart attack will have decreased. All nicotine will have left your body. Your sense of taste and smell will return to a normal level.
? In 72 hours your bronchial tubes will relax, and your energy levels will increase.
? In 2 weeks your circulation will increase, and it will continue to improve for the next 10 weeks.
? In three to nine months coughs, wheezing and breathing problems will dissipate as your lung capacity improves by 10%.
? In 1 year your risk of having a heart attack will have dropped by half.
? In 5 years your risk of having a stroke returns to that of a non-smoker.
? In 10 years your risk of lung cancer will have returned to that of a non-smoker.
? In 15 years your risk of heart attack will have returned to that of a non-smoker.

Day 1
-I will not smoke today-...never longer than today

Day 2
Remember that better days are ahead, Eventually it will get better and easier…

Day 3
experience these symptoms at peak levels in the initial 3 -5 days after you quit

Day 4

There is no such thing as just one cigarette.

distracting yourself for as little as 5 minutes is enough to snap you out of faulty thinking and get you moving forward with a better mindset.

Keep your memory green and don-t lose sight of the reasons you quit smoking.

Day 5
Nurture and protect your quit program because it-s the path to a healthier and happier you.

If you absolutely cannot get thoughts of smoking out of your mind and you fear you-re about to cave in and smoke, stop everything. Grab some paper and a pen, sit down, and answer the questions below with honesty and as much detail as you can muster.
? Why did I quit smoking? HEALTH _ ENERGY _ EFFICIENCY
? How long did I smoke? 10 years
? How long have I been smoke-free? 5 days
? How long do I think it should take to be free of this habit? 1 month
? If I go back to smoking, will I want to quit again? YES
? How long will it be before I do? Weeks...months...years? When illness strikes?

? Will quitting be any easier next time around? NOT SURE
? What benefits will smoking give me? BAD BREATH- BAD HEALTH- YELLOW TEETH- AND MUCH MUCH MORE!!!
? Is it worth giving up what I-ve worked so hard to do? NO!!!

Day 6
You can quit. In fact, one million Americans quit smoking every year, and almost 50 million Americans are former smokers.

Type out your feeling : ..............

Day 7
-So what if these ideas or excuses come into my mind? In the first week or two --of course they will. So I will expect them - and not make a big fuss of them. Soon they will be gone forever.....-
These questions, doubts and excuses - no matter how many times they cross your mind ARE NOT IMPORTANT - WHAT IS IMPORTANT, like the craving to smoke IS HOW YOU RESPOND TO THEM.

Day 8
-Maybe I should just have one - or maybe I got it all wrong - I don-t have to give up at all - all I really need to do is just cut down a little.-
I have made a decision.
I AM a non-smoker. I am not going to smoke again
as your mind is made up and any doubts or excuses would be just wasting their time!-
It is they who trigger off and energize our psychological addiction to smoking, i.e. our deeply-held belief that it is enjoyable and that life will be intolerable if we stop.

Day 9
Its so much easier now. Just have to focus and in 2 weeks the craving should be gone. Relax, dont stress out. If you do, drink water and chew gum
keep busy busy busy
chantix expensive but really works as long as you really want to quit smoking
there is no easy way to quit just do it. i did it cold turkey it been 3 yrs
start chewing

Can employers force you to quit smoking cigarettes? -

Can they test you for nicotine and fire you if you-re positive? If you-re off the clock and off the property you should be able to smoke and not worry about getting fired!
You can be tested for nicotine but only if you agree to it just like drug testing. The only way you can be fired is if you signed a statement upon hiring that said you will not smoke and as long as you smoking doesn-t effect your job.

How can i quit smoking, i wanna to but i cant? -

Im 16 and stupidly got in to smoking, i wanna quit but i cant seem to, my parents don-t know and i don-t want them to ever find out. I have been smoking for about a year I really wanna quit but i don-t know how. Please help
My friend is in the same situation! Quitting smoking is one of the most challenging things you can do, but you have to believe you-re strong enough. Start by weening yourself off. Smoke less each week, so that it-s bearable. Try the nicotine patches and gum, too.

This website is helpful for trying to quit:

http://www.anti-smoking.org/?gclid=CJ_2i…

and if you need to talk to someone it-s a great idea to call
1-800-QUITNOW

It-s great that you want to quit! I hope I was helpful :)
If you believe you have enough will-power you could stop cold turkey.
One day I decided to become a vegetarian, and that was over a year ago, and I-m still one.
Try cutting down slowly, getting down to one per week.
Then just stop, don-t let yourself get to them.
Don-t go out and spend your money on cigs, go buy clothes.
You could also try taking Nicotine gum which will probably fasten the quitting process.
You can purchase it at any pharmacy and Wal-Mart.
Also the Nicotine Gum website ships you a free two week trial of gum or something.

Hope I helped.

This worked for me a doctor said make list of all family members who died before 70 List smokers - non smokers Grand ma died at 95 mother still alive at 94 both non smokers the rest all smokers .Father died at 50 two packs a day That was 30 years ago i quit cold turkey . Just turned 69
See your doctor and talk to him about Chantix and other stop smoking meds. What (if anything) he prescribes will depend on how heavily you smoke.
oh God,you are really young!
try to not think about smoking anymore and choose some special gum..you can find it in drug store/try to work out alot!

If hypnotism to quit smoking works then would hypnotism work for other things? -

Such as being more confident
Getting straight As
Being able to sing

And other stuff like that.
Hypnotism is unnecessary and unnatural.
I prefer subliminal messaging.. That is when you get a subliminal message, like a message that your conscious mind wouldn-t be able to pick up but your subconscious would.. Your subconscious is where the basis of your decisions lie so if you used a subliminal software and typed in: -be more confident-, for example and used the software whilst on the computer (messages flash really, really quickly and you wouldn-t notice but your subconscious would), it could help you by your subconscious picking up the message whilst it is not visually detectable.

This works because the government banned the usage of it in the media years ago.
Hypnotism only works if the person wants it to. Did you know that? A very famous and successful hypnotist once told me that.

And yes, it would work for being more confident and getting straight As (actually, I have a hypnosis tape from that very same hypnotist to help me do better in school). However, being able to sing is NOT something you can just learn. Singing lessons are only improve an already good singer. Unfortunately, some people just CAN-T sing. Its a physical thing, not a psychological one.
From what i have learned, hypnotism only works on the mind over matter principal. Basically you have to believe that it will work...
Therefor hypnosis can work on just about anything.

But then again i haven-t experienced a hypnosis session.
Hypnotism has been known to cure phobias for SOME people. It could help someone to be more confident around people. Not too sure about getting straight As or being able to sing.
