What is the most successful way to quit smoking? -

Cold turkey.

Please visit

and read about nicotine replacement therapy (gum, patch, etc.) to see why it doesn-t work well.

Read a few sections of -Why do people smoke?- and -How to quit smoking.- The site even tells you what to expect (accurately) during the surprisingly short physical withdrawal period and how to minimize the symptoms.

It is really quite eye opening.
cold turkey
The most successful way to quit smoking is to do it after the first one you smoke. The next best way is whatever works for you. Remember, there is no such thing as failing to quit smoking. You can always keep trying.
Determination to quit the habit and help from others.
You must have the will power and the desire to quit at 100%. Along with that, you can try a smoking cessation kit or the gum; I used doc prescribed Zyban for a 2 wk period. After that haven-t had a cigarette since. You see I smoked for years and it took me 2 wks to kick the habit and to this day, well it-s been 5 yrs..amazing...and very proud! Good luck to you
best way to quit is cold turkey.my wife smoked for years and did it that way. it is like taking a band-aid off. quick and be done with it
This method works for me I quit smoking 2 years ago and this is the only method money back guaranteed.

Get the Facts
Easyway, founded by Allen Carr in 1983, has the highest independently verified 12-month success rate (75.8% for a smoker completing the program) of any quit smoking technique and a 90% satisfaction rating.

Compare Easyway to other methods and see for yourself why Easyway is called “The Cadillac of quit smoking methods.”

The Allen Carr Method
HOW THE METHOD WORKS

Using psychotherapy, the method works in the opposite way to the “willpower” method. It does not concentrate on the reasons the smoker should not smoke : the money, the slavery, the health risks and the stigma. Smokers know all that already. Instead it focuses on why smokers continue to smoke in spite of the obvious disadvantages.

It is fear that keeps smokers hooked!

Fear the smoker will have to give up their pleasure or crutch. Fear the smoker will be unable to enjoy life or handle stress. Fear the smoker will have to go through an awful trauma to get free. Fear the smoker will never get completely free from the craving.

The Method removes these fears
Smokers quit with the Allen Carr Method as happy non-smokers, not feeling deprived but with a huge sense of relief and elation that they have finally achieved what they always wanted….

TO BE FREE!

What about the terrible withdrawal pangs from nicotine?

The physical withdrawal from nicotine is so slight that most smokers don’t realise that they are addicts. What smokers suffer when they try and quit using other methods is the misery and depression caused by the belief that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch.

The Allen Carr Method removes this feeling of deprivation.
It removes the need and desire to smoke. Once the smoker is in the right frame of mind and they follow the simple instructions, the physical withdrawal from nicotine is hardly noticeable.

No Gimmicks!

The Method does not use any gimmicks, useless aids or substitutes. No nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, tabs, inhilators or nasal sprays! No needles! No lasers! No drugs! No herbs! No shock treatment!

The Allen Carr Method is successful because:

It removes the smokers’ conflict of will.
There are no bad withdrawal pangs.
It is instantaneous and easy.
It is equally effective for long-term heavy smokers and light smokers.
You need not gain weight.
You will not miss smoking.

Medical Endorsements

A personal view from Professor Judith Mackay MBE, JP, FRCO (Edin), FRCP (Lon), World Health Organisation Advisory Panel on Tobacco and Health

“I have no hesitation in supporting Allen Carr’s work. Many clinics use some of his techniques but it would appear that few do it in quite such a successful package.”

Carole Johnson, Coronary Heart Disease Prevention Unit, Tyne Tees

“his success rate was such that, when budgets allow, we continue to use Easyway for work with specific groups and individuals.”

Dr Anil Visa BSc, MBBch., FRCA, Consultant – Royal Hospitals NHS Trust – Royal London Hospital

“I have observed the Allen Carr method at first hand and have found it to be very successful and I wholeheartedly support it as an effective way to quit smoking.”

Dr William Green, Head of Psychiatric Dept, Matilda Hospital, Hong Kong

“It is a remarkable fact that Allen Carr, on his own admission a non-professional in behaviour modification, should have succeeded where countless psychologists and psychiatrists holding postgraduate qualifications have failed, in formulating a simple and effective way to stop smoking.”

Dr Martin Jarvis, Principle Scientist, Imperial Cancer Research
Fund and Reader in Health Psychology, University College London

”...I am more than happy to testify to Allen Carr’s enduring involvement and to recognise the value of the kind of behavioural and cognitive support he provides.”

Dr PM Bray MB CH.b., MRCGP

“I was really impressed by the method. In spite of the Allen Carr organisation’s success and fame, there were no gimmicks and the professional approach was something a GP could readily respect. I would be happy to give a medical endorsement of the method to anyone.”

Celebrity Endorsements

-Some friends of mine who had stopped using Allen Carr’s method suggested I tried it. I did. It was such a revelation that instantly I was freed from my addiction. Like those friends of mine, I found it not only easy but unbelievably enjoyable to stay stopped.”
Sir Anthony Hopkins

-His method is absolutely unique, removing the dependence on cigarettes, while you are actually smoking. I’m pleased to say it has worked for many of my friends and staff.”
Sir Richard Branson

GOOD LUCK!
Cold turkey. Talk to other quitters online as much as you can in the beginning.

Feedback on another post:
I did read Allen Carr-s Easy Way to Stop Smoking book but it didn-t work for me. Some of his advice, like saying -Yippee, I-m a non-smoker!- when you get a craving just seemed silly. He uses words like -stupid- and -fool- a lot to describe smokers and he just wasn-t someone I could relate to. I couldn-t quit smoking until I understood more about nicotine addiction. Smokers aren-t stupid, just addicted.

I really want my mom to quit smoking? -

For years I have asked her to quit smoking. My aunt smoked and got lung cancer and passed away a few years ago. Sometimes I worry that she won-t be around for my prom, or my high graduation, or my wedding. I really need advice, please.
It-s hard. I still do it. I always told myself if someone actually gave me some support to stop smoking I would do actually try to quit. My parents don-t really support me in anything so I still do it. Talk to her butt DON-T judge her. Do not tell her what to do. Do not actually say mom --mom can you quit smoking?- Instead tell her how you feel about it and see how she would react.

EDIT: try asking this in a different category like the Adolescent of Family you will get many more answers
It is awful to watch someone you love do such harm to themselves but in all honesty unless she really wants to stop nothing and nobody will make her. I know because I am an ex-smoker who had a 30 a day habit and it was when I knew I wanted to start a family that I decided I had to stop for the sake of the baby. I nearly went insane in the process but exactly a year after stopping I fell pregnant and have never smoked since. If your aunt dying did not give her an incentive then I don-t think you asking will work, in fact the more people used to go on at me the more I used to smoke.
Hey Cailin,

I-ve tried just about every method there is out there with zero success.
Gum patches and all the other just did not cut it for me, not to mention cold turkey which was the hardest, I even tried the electric cig and it is just no match to the real thing.

Eventually a friend told me about a NLP method, you could do the same for your mom :).
Get her to check out this article
http://www.squidoo.com/Not_Smoking_Any_M…

It’s the one that got me off the cigs and smoke free for GOOD even without gaining weight! :)

Good luck kicking the habit!

Any tips on how to help a friend quit smoking? -

Any tips on how to help a friend quit smoking? -

He wants to quit. I didn-t suggest it, he did, which I think is great. But I-m pretty much his only good friend that doesn-t smoke, so I-m trying to be there for him and help him through it. If anyone has any advice I-d appreciate it. Thanks!
I have quit five times. FIVE Times! I am currently on try number six and using the electronic cigarette. If your friend is truly a smoker, he is as addicted to the action of smoking as he is to the nicotine. Have him try the e-cig. If he wants to reduce his dependency on the nicotine, he can step down his nicotine cartridges till he is at zero nicotine.... just like the gum or the patch. But he STILL gets to smoke.

Now... when I say smoke, it is a little different. The electronic cigarette produces a vapor which can be seen. But as it is water based, it dissipates within seconds of entering the air. There is no smell.

By changing his habit, and not drastically, it will keep him calmer and make the switch something he can actually see himself sticking too. It is like with all of these diets that people go on. Sure you can loose weight, but can you keep it off once you stop paying for the meals? It-s all about taking your bad habit and replacing it with a good one.

I write a lot on these and there are a lot of places he can visit to get himself comfortable. The link below is a good starting point. It will take him to other links and other sources. They are legal in the US and available in several styles.
That-s one of the toughest addictions to break. A few of my friends used Chantix. It worked well, does something to break the addiction in the brain. They didn-t usually want to smoke after they took it, but when they did, they called the support line to get through the rough spots. They are some of the only people I know who quit and didn-t go back to it.
Try to get your friend to do things with you that don-t involve smoking. I know this isn-t a guy thing but take him to the mall or go to the movies. It will cut back some. Just give him as much support as you can and don-t criticize him if he falls back to smoking. I-ve been smoking for about 5 years now and it-s really hard for me to quit smoking. The thing that scares me the most is the thought of getting lung cancer. Maybe try and get him to a quit smoking program and support group.
Its diffcult no doubt u need to have a strong will power, thats just not enough the will power should be motivated.

what to do ???
all of a sudden when there are good friends around u announce that ur friend has quit smoking from today and make it sound honest to all that who are listeing.
I am sure this will help ur friend quit and his will power more strong

This goes to all u people smoking try this out
tell him the consequences.
LOL WHEN U FIND ONE THAT WORKS PLS LET ME KNOW SO I CAN TELL MY FRIEND TO HELP ME...LOL ITS HARD! VERY HARD!

I have quit smoking, quit gambling ,why cant I quit overeating ? -

Well smoking and gambling can be avoided. You can choose to stay away from those who smoke, sit in the non-smoking sections at restaurants, etc. You can also stay out of casinos.

However, eating is something different. You can-t avoid food, you have to eat! It-s just hard to slow down once you-ve started, as well as choosing fruit over cake. It-s also difficult to choose good foods since so many are chemically enhanced in labs and whatnot today. Knowing what-s in your food helps a lot.

I also have a problem with overeating. I-m currently -suffering- through a fruit, veggie, and meat only diet. It is very difficult to do, but you just have to think of the bigger picture, the light at the end of the tunnel. Just imagine how you want to look, and how eating better can help you achieve that look as well as become healthier and more comfortable.
Hey.....
I may be pregnant and yeah i didnt use no birth control.

Because you quit smoking.
Gurl that is one of our number one sins it is hard to not over eat you just have to tell yourself when to stop. Our if you have alot of different foods to choose from just get only a spoon full of it all and it will get you full but not stuffed.
i did the same. it-s almost like i replaced my addiction with cigarettes with food. i gained about ten pounds. after a while like that, i changed my eating habit.
Often overeating is due to emotinal eating. Basically eating makes us feel better. So it is important to identify when you out of comfort of hunger. For more info check out emotional eating article at
http://www.alfitness.com.au

Because you have to eat to live. Therefore it-s necessary to deal with food everyday unlike gambling or smoking which you can avoid completely.

What Do You Reccomend For Quitting Smoking? -

I-m considering quitting smoking cigarettes very soon. I have decided to isolate myself from people for at least the first day or two. Is their anything, any trick or so that you-d reccomend to make this an easier process? I am 20 and have been smoking for 5 years. I want to get this over with now before its pretty much impossible to stop.
try chantix. it helped me as long as i took it. i didn-t have the craving a t all! i just had the mental hand to mouth thing!i smoked 2 packs for about 15 years.
Try to get more information regarding some ways to stop smoking at my profile.
Nicorette gum, stuff like patches can cause health problems like blood clotting but the gum is pretty safe..just chew constantly I guess, that should help
Will power is best. You gotta wanna though

Have any of you quit smoking using chantix, the new pill out? -

if you have, was it fairly easy to quit?
I have about 50 patients on Chantix. It is a useful tool. Though it is the most effective FDA approved smoking cessation medication, the major clinical trials demonstrate a 1 year quit rate of 22-24%. This is significantly better than placebo 12% or nicotine replacement 15% or Zyban 18%. The problem is not in getting smokers to quit (Our clinic has 1 month quit rates of 70-80%) but rather keeping them from doing something stupid (like picking up a cigarette) 6 months down the line.
I mention this to emphasize that you must be psychologically prepared to quit as well. You must learn to respect this addiction and realize that you will -always be 1 puff away from a pack a day-. Fear that first cigarette like an recovering alcoholic fears a drink.

Good Luck

Dr Voelker
coworker took it since Nov and just finished her series Successfully also her cravings have gone away
No, havn-t used that, I used nicoderm,no side effect. pills!!! I have my doubts, I took one, can-t remember the name, but the side effect were horrendous.
I quit over Two years ago with nothing but will power the cravings go away after seven days but the craving will never leave you have to be strong

I used to not smoke often and now that I am back in the state I used to live in and living with my best friends I am a huge smoker. I find myself doing it all day, I want to smoke when I-m not high, and I don-t get that high off of what used to get me ripped. How do I not smoke when I live with a stoner? I-m not moving or anything like that but I dont want to smoke pot.
Oh My God...just be a big boy and don-t do it..take a stand, quit being such a schmuck. No one can make you smoke it unless you want to
just tell your roommate that your cutting back because you thinks its too out of hand. if he has a problem with it then maybe your not best friends.
you can cut back if you just tell yerself -im only smoking someone else-s stuff-

sure cuts back to the amount that it-s nice again (just go buy munchies to pitch in /w buddies).

proper management. wait till after 4 or so each day.

also, you say it like it-s a bad thing to be stoned all day ;) (perhaps yer sociatal views have brainwashed what YOU want so you think it-s bad b/ others say so, PLENTY of people rip all day and lead functional lives, the -squares- might give you **** but that indicates you prob dont wanna hang /w them if that-s yer lifestyle choice).

can always just quit it if thats yer thing. i couldn-t live /w friends b/c of the -party scene- they bring. beer cans and **** all over.

What are the best steps to be taken in first three hours after kept a quit time
First off, congratulations for WANTING to quit smoking!!

As the others have said, something to distract yourself is good so you don-t get bored and grab a cigarette. But an important point to mention is that once you quit, you-ll eventually have to deal with the withdrawal (obviously, but it-s one of the hardest parts).

For the most part, when you deal with withdrawal, you-ll just have to tough it out, but there are some things that can help cleanse out the toxins and may help to minimize some of the effects of withdrawal...
Drinking water will help to detox, and taking some supplements that work as cleansers may help as well. Specifically, Apple Cider Vinegar, Green Tea (decaffeinated), Chlorophyll (fantastic cleanser), and even good amounts of fiber and water helps some people (although it-s not very comfortable for the lower level of detoxification you get).

All that being said, it-s likely that the symptoms should stop relatively shortly after your last smoke (it-s never as long as it feels like it is). Your neurotransmitters don-t take too terribly long to scream for something they are addicted to after you stop.
Another important thing to note is that no matter how bad it gets, taking more of the drug (and yes, nicotine is a drug) will only make the withdrawal last longer and will be harder on you in the long run. Good luck, and congrats again!
Just eat a snack that you can really fill up on, in an obsessive compulsive kind of way.

For example, I quit smoking 23 days ago, and I ate 2 bags of walnuts and 3 jars of pickles in the first week.

I-m off the pickles and the walnuts now, and I no longer get really strong urges to smoke (though I still want a smoke pretty badly). But honestly, just get a healthy snack and eat it constantly. Then, run around and get some exercise.

I need to do some running around now so that way I don-t get fat. As a side note, I don-t feel any better since I quit smoking. However, my teeth are whiter now, and my skin is kind of glowing. So, I think I might look better.
You can do what you like...your hobbies...anything that shall keep you occupied with it for sometime...so that you won-t get distracted from it.
Don-t go there where are people smoking. Then, if you want to smoke, try buying chewing gums, that helps a lot.
I took a lot of steps. Went for a ten mile walk.

i did it .here is what i did and it took a lot of effort and -some tricks-.Withdrawls are the worst thing i ever went through. So to deal with that ,I did this.buy a carton of the cheepest -smokes-you can. Then I took a pack, and in each smoke i poked a -stick pin -in the filter.First pack gets 2 pick holes, and then the next pack ,open the pack take the smokes all out and -pick 3 holes-in each filter and keep doing this. You still get the feeling of smoking, but you will get -less and less-with each pack.then when you get to the last 5 packs in the carton ,keep increasing the amount of -holes- you poke in the filters and after that carton is gone ,you will get less nicitone and less ,till the nicitone will be outta you.But like i said the with drawls are the worst .like i said it worked for me.i tried medicin.welbutrim, the patches.you name it i tried it .nothing but -my trick-worked .try it it couldnt hurt.and i-ll add this when you are going through the withdrawls, either stay away from people or explane that you are trying to quit smoking and say your sorry for loosing it,cause you will loose it,your patience and the shakes, the headaches, sick to your stomach, all of it.good luck
I found that the patch was pretty good, and regular gum. Nicorette tasted bad to me, but the gum gives you the oral fixation and the patch lessens the craving.
Real, total and final, absolute and complete determination to quit smoking.

I had absolutely no trouble when I bought my house.

Ok, the withdrawal was hell.

But to lose a house because of an expensive and retarded habit?

Just..don-t... smoke. Be strong.

Does an intervention work to get a loved one to quit smoking? -

My loved one has tried and tried to quit for years and now has a disease where she must quit but wants to do it her own way which is not working. She won-t listen to any advice or suggestions. My family wants to step in and do an intervention like is sometimes done with alcoholics or drug addicicts. Any advice?
Take a quick click to a great website,
http://www.whyquit.com

They gave me the courage and ammunition to quit cold turkey January 11, 2007! Never Take Another Puff!!

Free Videos and stories of people just like your loved one is what they need. I think you will be amazed!
I would think it would depend on her personality. Would she understand why you-re doing it? Or would she be insulted?

Myself, I-d probably smoke ten times as much if someone did that to me, just to show them to leave me alone. Of course, I-m somewhat of an a$$. Maybe she would react better.
It works as long as the person knows you love them and only want the best for them. Me and my friends did it for my brother and it worked quite well, he doesn-t smoke any more and is more healthy than he ever was before.

How to quit smoking? Why is it so hard to quit and why cant we have the will power to quit? -

How to quit smoking? Why is it so hard to quit and why cant we have the will power to quit? -

Tell me all the possibilities.
It-s more than just will-power because it has become a physical addiction. There are products - gums, holders - that can help you with the physical aspects as you continue to work on the psychological aspects. One step you could take is to stop hanging around with people who smoke. You can be particularly aggressive after you eat, when (for many people) the urge to smoke is particularly strong. Try to examine what conditions are around you when you feel the strongest urge to smoke appears and try to change those conditions if you can.
ive tried gum patches, dr drugs, gave up hanging with my friends who smoked i smoked worst cause all my friends are smokers. now what?

Ugh I am so here right now too, when I typed -why is it so hard to quit- in google and here I am. Me and my hubby started taking Chantix about two months ago. Neither of us stayed on it though due to various irritating side effects. Now my hubby quit and hasn-t had a smoke in two months. I still battle the smoking though, I went two days no smokes, but today having a bad day. Opened our unopened pack and smoked two. So now I either have to fess up to my hubby or go out and buy another pack to cover it up. Leaving me with a now almost full pack of -sneaky smokes-. What to do? I find myself even sneaking smokes and lying to friends, I feel like a crack addict. I have no one to really talk to about this making it worse.
Thanks for listening.

I am in the process of not msokin bud. normally i smoke 3 grams a day of bomb kush. It sucks. i cant sleep. And im paranoid i hate this. I just wanna smoke and be back to normal but i wanna quit... its been a day and i am frusterated but i have no green, i quit smokin cigs about a month ago. i was addicted, usually a pack every 2 days for about a year or so. i just started to get sick of relying on them and bored. thats how i quit lol. but for me i am addicted to weed and cant stop i have smoked for so long and everyday i feel out of place without the feeling.
I have tried to quit but the ( hold on had to get a smoke) ah ok where was I yea as I was saying I have tried to quit but the nicotine forms little particles on your brain telling you,you need to smoke so you do, it doesn-t completely come down to will power it is an addiction, which I for one happily put up with for the time been. hope this helps.
You said it- -will power-.

Once your desire to quit is strong enough to over rule your desire to smoke- then it gets easier.

I quit many, many times only to start back after a few days, or weeks, or months. I event went 2 years and started back once.

I smoked 30 years. I finally quit at age 43 in 1991.

I will tell you this- you must stop for about 21 days in order to -break the habit-. Thats the hardest part. If you can not seem to get passed 2 or 3 days at the most-then you are not ready yet.

The last time I quit. I decided I could not do this on my own. Too many starts and stops. I felt I need some real help. I prayed to God. I asked Him to give me the strength to overcome the desire to smoke. Then I threw my cigarettes in the trash and never picked them up again. That was 17 years ago. I have been tempted on occasion, but not often.
Let me know when you find out! Been a smoker for 10 years...always thought of quitting and the longest I-ve been clean was 6 months. I think what we would need is a severe wake up call...I mean, if a doctor could show me what my lungs look like now, and what healthy lungs look like...I think it would give me the chance to reconsider my decisions and gain the willpower. But for now...I-m still going...very nasty habit...but for some reason it is satisfying.

I quit smoking. I drank at the club and had a few ciggies? -

But I am not smoking now. I quit 4 days ago. How will this effect me? I am on chantix so the cravings are not bad at all.
My mouth tastes like trash now.
Just remember what your mouth tastes like the next time your near a cigarette.
Would you want to kiss an ashtray?
If you only -quit- 4 days ago and you are already -Socially- smoking that means you haven-t quit. Good Luck!
Your body still thinks it is smoking since it has only been 4 days. Even smokers who just smoke recreationally (a few times a month, when coupled with drinking) have a higher risk of cancer. The longer it has been since you have quit, the more intense the craving...this will last about a year (even with an aid). Just suck it up and quit cold turkey and try to avoid the -triggers- like going out to drink...because then you will start smoking again. I promise.
You cant be -quit- unless you do not smoke what-so-ever, so you even smoking one ciggerette would mean you still smoke. Good luck.
I think it is normal for people to have a relapse, but now you have to start all over. You didn-t quit 4 days ago, you quit after you went to the club. Just remind yourself that every time to relapse, you have to start allover.

someone told me that hookah smoke has no nicotine and if you want to quit smoking you should smoke hookah for a while, and if this true, is hookah smoke harmful for you?
It kills your brain cells.

So, I guess that would be a yes it is harmful!
I know several people that once they started smoking hookah, they never picked it up cigarettes again, including myself!

They went form 1-2 packs a day to 4-6 bowls a week. The equivalent to half a pack of cigarettes as far as nicotine content and none of those disgusting chemicals.

Hookah teaches you to slow down and be patient. It helps remove the stress reaction that people have and the need to use cigarettes to off set it.

For more info on the dangers of hookah check out

http://www.harmreductionjournal.com/cont…

It-s a newer study than the Mayo Clinic-s study and more objective, obviously. (Mayo is has a big anti-smoking supporter)

smoke is smoke.. hookah is not as harmful as cigarette smoke though.
Its true I have heard that hookah can help you smoke but you can carry around Hookah everywhere you go... I-m pretty sure your gonna want to smoke after dinner somewhere and where is your hookah gonna be at?

best way to quit smoking... Cold Turkey you will feel Sh**ty for a while but you-ll get it dont.. keep reminding yourself that you dont need it.. Keep a pack with only one in there... just look at it smell it just so u get a bit of a feel of it.. but COLD TURKEY try it.. or just go get the patch
LOL.... sorry but no... smoke contains harmful substances so either way it can kill ya. I-m taking Chantix and it working. I am down from a pack or more a day to 2 smokes a day. I-m no longer addicted it-s just a habit now and soon these 2 will be history. It-s hard... good luck!
I don-t know if hookah smoke contains nicotine or not, but all you would be doing is replacing one oral fixation for another. That-s why many smokers use something to take the oral fixation away, such as gum or hard candies when they are trying to quit smoking.
A hookah is just another name for a water pipe. When you draw on the mouthpiece the smoke goes from the bowl through a water bowl which is supposed to render the smoke less harsh. The smoke will still have the nicotine in it.

try welbutrum antidepresant it-s cheeper than chantax . start out smoking outside only and not in your car. and smoke half at a time then , prolong each time you smoke. it gets better as time goes on. your craves will come and go .
I would think that since you have tried a few ways to quit already then you ought to look at some other methods that you haven-t tried yet. One thing I do know is that the same method will not work for everyone. Don-t know if you-ve tried hypnosis, but it seems to help a lot of people who haven-t been able to quit with the patch, gum or by other ways. Some folks get the hypnosis done in person and some do it with self hypnosis by using cd-s.

I wish you the best of luck. Two people in my family have died as a result of smoking. I guess the main thing you need to quit is to have your mind made up. For that you will need your own reasons why it is not worth it to continue.

Again, good luck
Hello! you are exactly the same as me, im 21 and ive been smoking on and off since i was 12. I still smoke but i think i smoke a hell of a lot less when im not allowed to smoke indoors. So if you smoke in your room maybe you should move into a non smoking flat or try and be strict with yourself and not smoke in your house anymore.

ALSO my best idea yet is to invest in a shisa (hooker) you can get tabacco free so its not bad for you atall and you can smoke it in your room and house and its really nice and relaxing. Even tho it doesnt contain nicotine its still satisfies the urge to smoke
Ask your doctor about Wellbutrin, it really helps to avoid withdrawal symptoms. I-m using it right now, and I haven-t smoked for a month.

You still have the mental desire to smoke, and I have the tightness in my jaw that tells me I want to smoke. But it-s tolerable, and I can avoid it with some willpower.
every time you feel the need to smoke..shoot one of your toes and/or fingers..after a while you should stop!...or you wont be able to hold the cigarrette!
Nothing makes it easier than hypnotherapy, NLP and EFT.
every time you feel the need to light up smack yourself upside the head with a brick. thats about what it is like to us with asthma every time we get the second hand smoke

I am trying to find out what the best method for quiting smoking is, other than cold turkeyo rhypnosis. Whether it be patches, pills or whatever. I am looking for a solution for a person that will probably be very hard for them to quit so need a good method.
In the Search for questions slot type in -how to quit smoking- and you will get at least 141 results.
If you cant do it cold turkey see your doctor. I did it cold turkey after 14 years of smoking. I just started working out more and walking alot. Chewing alot of sugarless gum, enough to give me headaches all the time. I wouldn-t waste a dime on products created and/or made by the same as*es that own the cig companies.
The best method for quitting smoking is here:

Read through the info to see why this process works so well. They offer a 100% money back guarantee but you won-t need to use it.

First off, you have to be sure you want to quit. Cheating isn-t allowed. My dad once said if you smoke one cigarette after you quit, then you haven-t quit. I think Nicorette patches are the best way. Also, chew gum, keep a toothpick in your mouth. Don-t suck on candy. It-s fattening, and you will gain some weight after quitting. That is just the way it is. Good luck to you. I hope you make it.
I have a friend who used Chantix. It is a relatively new drug you take for 3 months. It comes in easy to use packs that tell you how much to take. Ask you primary care physician about it. My friend was very successful. She has not had a cigarette in 6 months. The first pack is the starter pack and this is taken for one month. You then take two months of Chantix. You start out with a lower dose and the dose is gradually increased. Chantix is supposed to take the fun out of smoking. One side effect I know of is nausea. Good luck!

i want to quit smoking my age is 35 yrs, i smoke 8 to 10 cigarette daily. can you give some tips to quit that habit
I quit smoking after getting some tips from a friend. I recently wrote an article at ehow on how to quit. You can check out the article here...

http://www.ehow.com/how_5713872_quit-smo…

It-s about breaking the habit before you quit, which makes it a lot easier on you when you do decide to quit. The tips that I got from my friend about breaking the habit is the only reason why I was so successful. I know that many people are trying to quit right now and I wanted to do my best to help. I hope that my article helps you to quit. Best of luck.
Through self hypnosis. That-s how I did it. and I smoked 2 packs daily for forty years.
Here-s how. In the moments just before going to sleep our consciousness is approximately on the same level as hypnosis. That-s why you hear hypnotists saying -sleep, sleep, sleep-. Begin the first night by repeating over and over again, -I want to be a non smoker, I want to be a non smoker, I want to be a non smoker..... over and over again until you fall asleep. After about a week or so you will wake up as I did and look at the ashtray and say -YUCK-. From that point on, at sleep time, say over and over again, -I am a non smoker-. Keep saying this for a month or so.
This is by far the best way to quit because there are no withdrawal symptoms normally associated with quitting.
You will need to continue at least once a week with the -I am a non smoker- mantra otherwise you run the risk of the hypnosis wearing away and you could be back to the same old smoking. I can remember the strange feeling when every once in a while the thought of -Hey, let-s have a smoke- would pop into my head and immediately another thought would pop up screaming, WHAT ARE YOU CRAZY, WE-RE NON SMOKERS-!!!!!!!!!!. If or when this happens it-s time to renew your -I am a non smoker- routine at bedtime. Try it. You-ll see. It works.
Oh yes, and all the while maintain a positive attitude and have faith that it works because it really does.
I am 40. It-s not that easy. And it-s also not that difficult. I myself had been smoking for about 17 years and quit more than two years ago. First thing is, you have to de condition your mind. That is whenever you have the urge Hold your hands together, take a deep breathe, that is inhale deeper and hold the breath or (breathe) for a few seconds, then exhale slowly. It will be really tough, but initially you have to struggle but when you follow this gradually you can overcome the desire to smoke. Also you have to avoid the smokers in the initial stages. Avoid going to the places where you usually smoke avoid such companies , Even then if you have urge decide to go to far off shop to get the cigar, walk further , walk further,. These are all in the initial stages. It took just 10 days for me to practice such things. But later on I never felt like smoking. But you should have a strong intention to quit smoking. At the initial stages you should strictly avoid smoking companies, places that tempt you etc. Practice those methods. lead a happy smoke free life. C.u. Bye.
Well, maybe I can scare you into it. If you don-t quit now, you-re going to look 50 by the time you-re 40. lol

You don-t smoke a lot so that-s good. For me the hardest part was the physical addiction. The habit in other words. I spent so much time smoking it was unbelievable. Here are a few things that helped me:

Hot tea - it has zero calories, it-s good for you, and you still get that hand to mouth motion
Excersise - I hit the gym for 2 hours a day when I quit. It kept my mind off smoking in a healthy way.
Blogging - I wrote down my struggles each night before bed. Sometimes during the day. I did it for a couple weeks. It helped me to identify when and why i had the worst cravings and that way I could avoid that situation next time.
Make a plan and a quit date.
Tell everyone before you quit. that way you will feel stupid and they will hold you accountable

Get Help! only 3% of people can quit cold turkey. Find a natural product too. If you start using the patch or the gum you-re just going to become addicted to that instead. I used smoke deter and really liked it but there-s plenty on the market. Here is a site that offers some reviews: www.firstproductreview.com
... hmmmmmm 8 to 10 a day. wow get a grip..
most people can-t stop immediately but start by only taking 4 to 5 a day then lower it slowly.. duh its gonna be hard... but if u wanna stop its UR problem so if u wanna look lik a monster by ur 40-s then keep on puffing that junk
i don-t believe in nicotine patches or pills because well.. they have chemicals in them just like the junk u smoke.

Does anyone know a good way to quit smoking tobacco? -

Does anyone know a good way to quit smoking tobacco? -

I need a natural remedy here, not too expensive and possibly one I can forage/gather myself.
This is a tough one my friend. I’d like to say that it’s easy and all that good stuff, but as I’m sure your aware, it’s not. I have just recently quit smoking and using smokeless tobacco simultaneously, and I used the patch to do it. So now it’s been 3 months and the worst part of it is over, but it was rough there for a while. But enough with the tootin of my own horn. Here’s the deal. Most importantly you have to be READY to quit. None of this “My girlfriend / boyfriend, wife, ect keeps nagging and I’m tired of hearing it. This is the worst excuse by far, and if you use it then not only are you going to be miserable, you are going to find yourself resenting that individual and then being pissed off all day. So, now that you have made up your mind that this is something you really want to do, set a date. I’m serious, having a date and preparing for it is pretty crucial. About a week or two from your date start mentally preparing yourself, and gather the things that you can use to help you. I used sunflower seeds and a rubber band for the most part. Try to get yourself mentally prepared as well. Think about being nauseous every time you smoke, and start associating things that would normally make you ill (road kill, runny eggs, Roseanne Barr), to smoking. Start looking forward to the date, and keep with your plan. Also start to cut back on it as well. If you can go without a last smoke at the end of the day and maybe hit the sack early it helps. Use the day before to make final preparations like washing all of your smoky clothing, cleaning house with copious amounts of Fabreze, and throwing away all of the ashtrays. Now on the big day try not to freak out and just try to make it through it. Use the sunflower seeds and gum to help you out. Sugar free is a bonus, but not a must in my book. Use a rubber band around your wrist as a reminder of what you’re trying to accomplish. I know, it sounds gay as hell, but if you get a craving that’s coming on strong, and the rest of the crap doesn’t help then last ditch effort you can pull the band back and snap the hell out of your wrist. This serves two purposes a) it will take your mind off of the current need to smoke b) when you do it enough times, you tend to associate the craving with the pain which helps (unless you’re into the pain thing. If so disregard that last part). After the first day, keep making a point of reminding yourself that you have accomplished a big goal in that one day, and challenge yourself to continue on. A couple of key points in the end here are; If you hang out with smokers, try to steer clear of them for a day or two till you get it under control. Refrain from the drinking and sex, these are two things that are the worst triggers. Finally, keep looking forward to the better smell and taste of the stuff you do everyday, unless you’re eating prison food sitting next to a waste management facility. As far as the forage thing goes, I cant help ya with that one, sorry. Good Luck
take up diving or scuba diving- or any water sport
Cold turkey! You gotta be tough for about a week! You will still have occasional cravings but they will gradually become fewer and farther between! I quit 7 years ago and I still to this day have a craving once in a blue moon or so! Start by crumbling up whatever cigs you got right now! Then try to remember these cigarettes that you destroyed before you give in to buying more! Do Not Buy Any More Cigarettes! You can do this! And you will be so happy after the tough part is done! Good luck!
just don-t buy cigarettes and save your money , natural remedy won-t help if you don-t have the wish to quit smoking
you shouldn-t start in the first place, next. if you do, don-t buy them
The only way that works is cold turkey. Just quit. I did it in 3-s, 3 hours, 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months, 3 years. The suffering kept me from starting again because I never wanted to be controlled by a substance and suffer like that again. It worked. With every wave of desire just swear that you never want to feel like that again and you will win the battle.
chew straws
Lose an immediate family member to lung cancer at the age of 52. That should work. Not that i wish that on any of your family members, but it makes you think about quitting.
My father finally had luck with smokenders.
They-re still around.
The most important part was being conscious of each cigarette. Take away the triggers - coffee, drinking, one after a meal.
Cut back slowly, keep track of each one.
get yourself a crystal called -botswana agate- from a new age store...after you have cleansed it make sure you carry it with you everywhere..everytime you light up a smoke take the crystal and hold it in your hands the whole time you are smoking....its a slow process but gradually the smoke will start to taste foul and you wont have the urge to smoke
A friend of mine swears by American Spirits it gives your body a chance to shake the other addictive substances first.
Just Use you will power.
Its the best way to get rid of.

Man oh man I will tell everyone now answering your question was great I never really thought I would find it again because I give the kit to others .... Wow!!
Do not buy any, grow any, accept any or keep any you may already have in your posession. Throw all the tobacco products away. If you are addicted, get on the nicotine patch that helps to gradually, decrease your dependency on the drug. Avoid spending time with people who are smokers and may encourage you to continue the habit. Cold turkey won-t kill you if you are not a two year veteran already. Will power is the most effective, natural remedy I know of.
easy. quit smoking tobacco.

if you want to quit, you will.
just don-t buy anymore packs. you can-t smoke what you don-t have
Join a cessation program, use a hot-line to quit smoking(find on-line or in the yellow pages), buy the nicotine patch, ask your doctor for a prescription, see a psychologist to find out what cause you to smoke or maybe you know and just need a support group to help you quit. type in cessation programs on the web and you should come up with a lot of information. Good Luck!
No natural remedies, smoking is a physical as well as psychological addiction. If you really want to quit, follow this:

physical deaddiction first. THrow away all your stock except 3-4 packs. Smoke these 03-04 packs on a friday evening so that you can really appreciate why smoking is bad for you. Then quit w.e.f. sat morning. believe me, when you wake up, you will feel like s**t! Drink a lot of water, don-t go out of the house (you dont have any more cancer sticks, remember), have a fruity breakfast and go back to sleep. repeat in afternoon, night, till monday morning. Monday morning will see you free of the craze to smoke, as hopefully, all the water will detoxify you, your nose will be clear, your tastebuds will be functioning again.

Now for psychological detox. Substitute the habit with another. Smokers reach for a cig in all sorts of situations, waiting for a bus, stress in office, etc. The trick is to look out for these sits as the habit of lighting up often becomes nearly a subconcious reaction. If you can do that, chew gum/ aniseed instead of smoking.

reward yourself for little gains. see the benefits. clearer lungs, fresher breath, increased taste and flavour, more stamina, intimacy with partner is increased, cost benefits and saving, clearer skin, better sex etc.etc. Count your blessings and take it step by step. Don-t get perturbed by a minor relapse(if you smoke one or two in a moment of weakness), get right up and continue quitting! Get support from your partner through out.

Next, avoid other smokers, do not buy your own smokes, get a hobby, and soon you will have a smoke free life. I have it now! I smoke a good cigar every christmas, and that-s about it.

Lastly, if your will is weak but you still want to kill this deadly habit, go for drug therapy. violent reactions to nicotine will make smoking a really unpleasant experience, so you will be forced to stop. Remember, this is the last step, not normally advocated.
All the best!
just don-t smooke
Quitting smoking is mostly mind set. So set your mind to it and do it. Try eating sunflower seeds when you want a cigarette.
hide your lighter. ;)
keep smoking till you die of lung cancer.
Put down the tobacco product. Say -I QUIT!-
If you-re not sufficiently disgusted with it, you won-t quit. Not till you-re ready.
look at the sites below...the program can help for all drugs. I dont think that the supplements will be any more expensive than smoking and will clean the drugs out of your body. Help with the weight gain problem and mood.

I did this program for ssri addiction. Works. Without it i would never have been able to get off of them.

How long does it actually take before I will feel 100 percent normal after I quit smoking? -

I have started working out really hardcore and I want to start running again, but I just quit 2 days ago and still feel severe pain in my chest. I know I need to give it awhile but how long can you predict?
It takes about a week to get rid of the addiction, 3-4 wks before you feel completely normal really. And it takes about month for every year you smoked to clear your lungs completely.
The good news is you will wonder why you *ever* liked it. The bad news is that after 12 yrs I still have an occasional craving - although they are usually brief and over with quickly.
Don-t get discouraged - that first month is definately the hardest, but it can be done. Chew cinnamon gum whenever you get a bad craving - it sort of changes your mind to associate a craving with cinnamon gum :)
I heard on one of the fat movies that it takes three days for you body to adjust to quitting smoking and a few weeks to get over it psychologically.
It-s all psychological. It-s in your head. The key is to forget about smoking and keep this message in your head: Quit or die.
With me, I felt lots better after about two weeks and after six weeks, I felt great. Stick with it and good luck!

I smoked marijuana for 6 months daily, and have quit smoking for 81 days. will i pass a lab urine drug screen? -

i only am 5-9 160lbs. I drink at least 50 oz of water, plus gatoraide and juice (oj and pure cranberry) a day.
mostly,
I think you will. I saw a thing on this show MANswers and people have gotten high the day before the test drank 2 gallons of water and passed. Another trick was take 2 asprin before just to be sure, or work out, or a spa to sweat it out if your worried. But from experience I think you will pass a urine test. Not a blood test though.
Yeah, I would think so too. If you know when the test will be, I would maybe not do any strenuous exercise for the couple of days before. Iirc marijuana chemicals partition into fat and could be released were you to do strenuous exercising.
THey prbably wont but just in case drink a lot of water. Not too much -cause urine has an acidic value and water doesn-t. If they see that your urine doesnt have an acidic value (from the water) than they know you-ve got something to hide.
Don-t worry if its only a urine test because marijuana only lasts in the body for at least 90 days if they complete a hair follicle test but since they only are doing a urine test it should not show up on any test results.
You probably will but may not. That is the answer. Just drink a ton of water before the test so your urine is very dilute. This may help.
Urine you might, but hair you won-t. Hair will go back up to 10 years.

What is the name of that over the counter pill for quitting smoking? -

What is the name of that over the counter pill for quitting smoking? -

The one I am talking about is one where you gradually quit smoking. You take the pill each day, then eventually your taste for the cigarettes goes away and you don-t want them anymore. You are allowed to smoke while you-re taking them (if you so desire, but eventually you won-t want to smoke)....Anyone know?
I am guessing you mean Chantix, if this is the one PLEASE DON-T TRY IT.

I have heard so many horror stories that I can not believe that people would even suggest it as an option.

Check out this link for some such horror stories

http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/OnCall/comment…

Chantix has many side effects. These include nausea (30%), sleep problems (insomnia, nightmares, strange - vivid dreams), constipation, gas and vomiting.

Because Chantix works on the brain there are many cases where people who take the drugs report strange behavioural changes. People have known to become depressed, agitated, aggressive, angry and even suicidal. Some have taken their own life or have died as a result of behavioural changes due to taking Chantix.

Smoking is more of a psychological addiction than a physical one. If you really want to quit you must discover the reasons why you smoke and then eliminate or change these thought processes. Trust me, you do not need to take drugs to achieve this. Once you deal with the psychological side of smoking it makes the quitting process easy.

Like they said- I-m pretty sure you-re talking about Chantix- which will need a script.

Before you jump into anything like that, though- please make sure you do some research on the drug. I looked into this some time ago and heard (and read) from many accounts that it gives you very vivid and strange nightmares. Please look into the side effects before paying so much for it but keep in mind that it affects certain people differently.

On the good side, I guess there are several levels to go through, which can become very expensive.... BUT I-ve also read many accounts that the second level is hardly even needed.

Just sharing some info I-ve learned about, so far. Good luck with kicking the habit. You-ll live much longer.
Re the side side effects: I had the vivid dreams, and they were nothing. Some people can-t tolerate it, but most can. Well worth a try, as long as you aren-t stupid enough to keep using it if you get depressed.
There is no OTC pill for quitting smoking, only patches and gum. It sounds like you might be taking about the new pill Chantix, but it is prescription (well at least in the US it is).
it-s called Chantix,but it is not otc. i took it - i quit,it works wonders,but is about $100 month.

it-s recommended that you take it for 6 months.
Chantix is a prescription drug. It has lots of side effects, depression and suicide (39 people dead to date).
Chantix, but it-s not OTC. You need an Rx.

I quit smoking 10 years ago, have been getting these overwhelming desires to buy a pack!? -

Should I buy a pack and get it over with, or just try to ignore it?
NO! if u buy just one it will turn into -well...just one MORE...-
stay strong. chew gum, mints or something else.
I have found whenever I am craving something I shouldn-t eat, that my blood sugar may be trending downward. So I have mentally connected the two, and try to eat some protein or nuts whenever I crave (in my case sweets or chocolate).

There is information about low blood sugar at www.hufa.org.
ignore it and get some kind of stress reliever...sounds like ur stressed
Don-t buy one.

Smoking kills, there are cooler ways to die. =)

Good luck...
Just stop it. You know you do not want to take up that habit again. Aren-t you healthier now? And the money, gosh, they cost so much. Please, I too have been a non-smoker for about 12 years. I won-t go back.... Please??? Don-t do it.
I-m in the same boat as you, I quit 4 years ago, but recently have been thinking, man I could surely go for one.

DON-T DO IT! Everytime I think I want a smoke, I think about how much better I feel since I quit smoking and how I don-t stink. All I have to do is go to my in-laws and I can get that smelly feeling back, LOL.
If the desire is overwhelming, you-d have already bought a pack... these desires are underwhelming if you-ve resisted them...
Ignore it!!
My dad quit smoking 20+ yrs ago and still feels the urges.
Just remember the -Down- side of smoking.
Good Luck
Don-t do it! If you feel that your willpower is wilting, try hypnotherapy! It certainly worked for me.
Ignore it. Keep yourself busy. Distract yourself in anyway possible. You will most likely regret if you cave. Think of it as a challenge.

Do you want to quit smoking New Vaccine? -

I heard about a new vaccine that has been developed that stops the niccotine from reaching your brain. This prohibits the addiction to niccotine which is one of the main factors for with smokers and thier inablitiy to quit smoking. I say bring on the vaccine and stop the madness of smoking poisons that have taken the lives of so many. Check it out and give your opinion!
I am a smoker currently attempting to quit. I have not heard of this vaccine you speak of, however, there is a new medicine called Chantix that works great! It is very expensive though(300.00)without insurance. I was able to quit for 2months, but since I-ve been a smoker for 35yrs we decided I needed a longer dosage, so now I-ve been smoke free for 4months,well almost, I smoke 3-4 cigs a day, I can-t seem to let those last ones go.
Thats sounds great! I am an ex smoker of 8 years and wish that had been available when I gave up;
do you have the site for this i was going to send my hubby to a hypnotist but your info sounds good
I have heard of this. I think it is called NicVax. They have it in parts of Florida and I recently heard it was in Savannah Ga. I-m thinking about trying it soon.

What are some effective ways to support someone whos trying to quit smoking? -

Keep praising them and telling them how proud you are of them that they have kicked that nasty habit. If they try to make excuses about having -just one- cigarette because they are stressed, angry, sad, bored, drunk etc just say to them -I am so proud of you now that you don-t smoke any more. You are so much stronger now and it-s great what you have acheived. You don-t need to go back to that filthy lifestyle. What will that cigarette do for you? Nothing, embrace the fact that you are a non-smoker!-.

Alternatively, buy them the book -Easy way to stop smoking- by Allen Carr. I stopped smoking (I smoked 25 smokes a day for 5 years) and it wasn-t hard at all! It makes you see smoking for what it is and ensures that by the end of the book you have no motivation or desire to smoke. Its worth a go. Check out the website www.allencarr.com/ to see feedback from ex-smokers.
throw away their cigarettes, my friends did that to me. it pissed me off but i quit.
be understanding if they get a little crabby. also, stock up on things like sugar free candies so they can appease the oral fixation/cravings. mmm....plus, try encouraging exercise in non accusatory ways...like suggest going for a stroll, etc. etc.
What are some effective ways to support someone whos trying to quit smoking? -

Stopping smoking requires effort, determination, and commitment, but the more you learn about your options and prepare for quitting, the easier the process will be. While there is no one best way to quit smoking, you will be most successful if you are aware of the challenges ahead and make a plan to keep yourself on track.

Making a Stop-Smoking Plan
While some smokers successfully quit by going cold turkey, most people need a more elaborate treatment plan.
A smoking cessation program is a plan of action that weans you off smoking both physically and psychologically. Having a solid plan in place can greatly increase your chances for success. A good program addresses both the short-term challenge of quitting smoking and the long-term challenge of preventing relapse.

SmokeFree.gov outlines five basic steps that will help you get ready to quit:
S = Set a quit date.
T = Tell family, friends, and co-workers that you plan to quit.
A = Anticipate and plan for the challenges you-ll face while quitting.
R = Remove cigarettes and other tobacco products from your home, car, and work.
T = Talk to your doctor about getting help to quit.

Other important aspects of a stop-smoking plan include:

Identifying your smoking triggers – Print out this craving journal and keep a log of where you are when you smoke and who you’re with. Identify situations or emotions that trigger your cravings for a cigarette.
Preparing for cravings – Once you’ve identified your triggers, you can make a plan for avoiding them. You can also draw up a list of coping techniques to use when you’re tempted to smoke. For some helpful strategies, see Quitting Smoking – Help for Cravings and Tough Situations.
Getting your loved ones involved. Quitting is tough, and having the right people around you can make all the difference. Let your friends and family members know that you are planning to quit smoking and would appreciate their support and encouragement.

lock yourself in the basement or closet or something for about 4 days!!!
I used the patches by Nicorette. I was ready to quit though because I decided that it was better to be able to breathe without using oxygen and not being afraid to lay down flat in bed and worry about not breathing. You just have to be ready to quit on your own though, and you can-t have anyone pressure you into it. Like I said, the Nicorette patches worked for me because they give you the taste of nicotine and that helps a lot. Just follow their plan.
Cold turkey and plenty of sunflower seeds.
First go through all the pro/con demons in your head and decide if you really do want to quit. Its your decision, no one elses. If you decide to quit there-s help our here. I had to go to many groups to read all info, my choice you may not need it, and know they were there before I quit. I used something my sister recommended -Smoke Away- available in many stores - e-bay. Between the time I ordered it and got it I read all the group sites to build up my determination. I found some of the program didn-t work for me but the first weeks herbal pills did help very much. I smoked for 42 years, never made it past a full day of quitting until now. I-m currently at 1 month, 1 week, and 4 days quit. Good luck and remember if you don-t have support at home on this to reach out to all the groups - everyone who-s had to go through it understands. God Bless - good luck!
I heard of a product called New root. I Don-t smoke so i don-t know, but its capsule form. You take it and in a couple days or weeks. You have a choice either keep taking it or the the cigarette taste REAL HORRIBLE. I found it in a health food store. It does have a web sight somewhere. Good luck on quiting, By the way this is suppose to help clear the lungs faster, and helps stop those food cravings.
Pure will power. that is the best and only way
there is no easy way or a best way. you just have to want it and be willing to change up everything neccessary to aid you. I used the patches for a minute but ended up doing it on my own. I just avoided the situations that made me crave cigarettes, such as night clubs. Then I changed up certain habits that were triggers for me. Like doing something after meals instead of smoking. Its only hard for the first week or so. Thhen it starts getting a lot easier.
go cold turkey....
Take a small empty squeeze bottle like an eye drop bottle and fill it with Vicks Formula 44 D and keep it in your shirt pocket or where you kept your cigarettes....When you have a craving for a cigarette, put a drop on your tongue, It has a very strong and long lasting taste and will take your mind off the cigarettes. Try it, it works. Might take a few weeks.........Nuf Said
Wear a rubberband around your wrist when you feel urges, slap it on your wrist so it hurts... sounds like your a mouse in a lab test, but it works!
drink milk everyday ,

doctor says that , once u drink milk ,then u dont like taste of cigarettes

then u quit smoking
Well, you COULD wait till you are lying in a hospital bed with OXYGEN TUBES running into your nose and IV bags dangling on either side of you and a Cardiologist comes in and says------you have maybe 2 months at LEAST and 5 years at BEST-...... sure did make ME quit the smokes....that was 6 MONTHS ago and I-m still here but I KNOW I am not going to be much longer... If you are young, QUIT NOW... go to the market and buy yourself a TON of those beautiful NAVAL ORANGES.... whenever you want a smoke, peel an orange---PEEL not cut---pull the pieces apart and eat each piece SEPARATELY.... this gives your hands and mouth something to do for about as long as it would take you to smoke a cigarette.... do this EVERY time you get a craving---oranges are good for you and NON fattening and as long as your hands and mouth are -kept busy- by the orange, you won-t miss OR crave a cigarette as much... eventually (within about 5 DAYS) you stop the cravings all together and can cut down on your ORANGE CONSUMPTION.... I was eating 8 oranges a DAY when I first quit.... now I eat 8 in a WEEK...(sometimes less)....

My tummy is puffed out, I quit smoking, have not gained any weight but my stomach is visibly puffed out? -

I work out Monday to Friday run 8.5 miles per day, Saturday run 7 miles and weights every other day, the only think I have changed in my routine is 2 more miles M-F. Why am I puffed out so bad, I thought I was gaining weight but I am the same. I have been smoke free for 58 days.
Sometimes the skin and tissue of the stomach sage because the muscle wall of the stomach and back are weak. You say You have been running 8-7 miles and lifting weights but have been working on your abs? If not this may be the answer to your problem. Add an abdominal workout say three times a week and you should see results.

CAN SOMEBODY SEND ME A PACK OF NICOTINE PATCHES FOR FREE PLZ I AM SERIOUS ABOUT QUITTING SMOKING
THANX
You have lost your friggin mind. You mean to tell me you can afford to smoke, but you cannot afford the nicotene patches.
Get real! You remind me of the patients in our hospital who cannot afford the inhalers and the medications they need because they smoke, but continue to smoke. Cigarettes are not cheap. You need a reality check.
First of all, how much do cigarettes cost?
Second, See your health care provider about the new drug Chantix. Your insurance may cover it. If not it is still cheaper than smoking. Good Luck.
will power try it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No, Cut down. Gradually cut down to nothing then its not so much of a shock to your system.

Or even cut the miligrams down first then cut down on actual cigarette amoutn
stop cold turkey.... I did after42 years you dont need gimiks put your mind in control and do it , it beats getting cancer........................who is in control you or the cigarette.
How can you afford cigarettes if you can-t afford the patches?

The only people I-ve known that successfully quit did so by going cold turkey. The patches are still giving your body nicotine which will still give you cravings. Best way is to just get them out of your life. Don-t buy them, don-t accept them from friends, don-t ask for them....throw out whatever you have left and just say goodbye.
OK, I am surprised I am even entertaining this question , as I am also a smoker! But, as it has been told to me MANY MANY times, if you ahve the money to smoke, you have the money to QUIT SMOKING!

Go to www.commit.com
www.quitsmoking.com

GOOD LUCK!
you still require will power even if you are on nicotine patches. your best bet is just cutting them out completely. the temptation will be unbelievable but just think of the position you could be in in years to come if you don-t.

How do I effectivley quit smoking? And not start back up? -

I-m 18 and have been smoking for about 6 months. I need to quit but am unsure how to approach it without major cravings. I also need to know what methods have worked best. I was thinking about using the patch and gum. But don-t know how much they work. Some one please help me
Cravings are your body-s way of telling you that it wants the drug it-s addicted to. You-re going to have some cravings no matter what, because smoking has two seperate components - physical (the nicotine itself) and psychological (the act of smoking in response to external stimuli).

That being said... you-ve only smoked for 6 months. If you go the patch route, do not start with the 21 mg patch. Start with the 14mg patch. The 21 mg patch probably has more nicotine than you smoke in a day (unless you smoke more than a pack per day) and might only make you more addicted. You might even consider starting at the 7 mg (the smallest one), and see if that-s enough to take the edge off of your cravings.

The way the patch works is to break the link between the two different addictions. You-re getting the nicotine from the patch instead of a cigarette, so you don-t get the -I _need_ to smoke- feeling, and you have a better chance to break the -I-d _like_ to smoke right now- feeling. Once you break the -habit- part of smoking, then you scale down the level of nicotine.

Be aware that you probably will still feel some cravings at first, and also you might have cravings after you-re finished with the patch. Tough it out - after a week or so with no cigarettes and no patch, max, your body has zero nicotine and won-t crave it as much.

Good luck.
Get the patch as soon as possible. You only have been doing this for 6 months, so if you do this now you probably will have a lot easier time than those who are years into their addictions.
I-ve tried them all and the lozenges were the best, better than smoking, after the first couple days, and I smoked for 12 years
you have to WANT to quit and you have to want to quit 100%, otherwise it wont work, you-ll quit for a few weeks here and maybe a month or so there, but you-ll keep coming back. (experience and from I-ve seen my friends who have tried) People who try to quit just because someone else wants them too is not enough. wanting to quit for yourself just because you don-t want to do it for 1 reason only(money, health, etc.) is not enough. You have to want to quit 100%. Try reading up on all the dangers of smoking. seeing people who are sick from it first hand helps too. Look at how much money you have spent over time on cigarettes. Put all of these things together and it should help you. Also, a lot of hospitals and other clinics have smoke free aids and groups. I-m in the military and these groups and quitting devices (ptaches, gum, etc) are free. I-m not sure about civilian clinics and such.

good luck, it-s a horible habit and so gross and bad
Cold Turkey is the best way.

Watch someone die of emphysema.

Life-s too good and too short to waste on that filthy habit.
it should be easier if youve only been smoking for 6 months... i dont smoke but i know my friend that tried quiting after smoking for about half a year(also 18) and he did it cold turky.. but eventually started again after a year and tried stopping again... and he has said that it is harder to quit after smoking for a while.. so whatever you do, do it now, or else its just oing to be harder...
Hi,
Since I quit, I-m constanly now being asked -How Do I Stop Smoking?-
I really emphathise with you, I quit my 20 a day habit in a pain-free way!
No stress, no cravings, no weight gain, no pills, patches or gums.
The program I followed was recommended by a friend and now boasts a 90% success rate and is 100% fully guaranteed - can-t say fairer than that

All the best..

is it possible to quit and how? and what if your under 18 and don-t want your parents to find out?
Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.
JUST STOP!
sally, it takes an instant. Or ten years.

It-s entirely possible to quit without any medications, nicotine patches or gum, any of that. You just stop, and when you really crave a smoke, you take a deep breath (literally--it helps) and remind yourself why you-re quitting. In time the cravings hit less frequently, and are less intense. Depending on how long you smoked, they may never really go away.

I quit that way a number of times, then took it up again during a period of stress or self-pity. The last one took, and I-m approaching ten years now with only about 4 bummed cigarettes over that period. I still crave when I-m around smokers.

Just stop. Throw away your cigarettes. Stay away from those who smoke for a few days. Buy some gum or mints, and make a list of all the reasons you don-t want to smoke. You can do this!
Just do not pick up anopther one................if you do, take one puff and put it out. NEVER smoke alone, find gum.
Hey, great question.

I believe it takes roughly 1 second to extinguish a cigarette. However, with multiple cigarettes, this may not be so easy. I-d say a good formula would be a second for each cigarette, minus how many cigarettes you have times .1
in few seconds if you really thing to stop. you use the word how long means days it is impossible
no time at all... just dont pick up a cigarrette... in fact its more like negative time because your gaining that few minutes that you would be smoking.

How to convince someone to quit smoking? -

Its driving my absolutely crazy, my dad smokes non-stop everyday, on the balcony and I can frequently smell it... I-ve been trying to persuade him to quit for years, but he never does. The subject of smoking always ends up in a heated argument and it really starts to affect the relationship a lot.

Plus the cigarettes cost a lot due to laws and it really gets on my nerves because its a waste of money. I really am concerned that I have been exposed one time to many, I have to eat dinner a lot and the guests smoke so much that I am concerned about getting illnesses from second hand smoke...
You can-t it is going to have to be a personal choice for him.
You can-t and shouldn-t try to your father no doubt knows the facts and has made his choice and that is just what it is. Not only that but if you really do some research on second hand smoke you find that the report all the second hand smoke info is based on was found unconstitutional by the EPA.
Unfortunately, the bottom line is, HE has to make the decision to quit smoking. You know he-s killing himself, you know he-s wasting money, but you can-t make up his mind for him. The thing I would suggest to you is for -you- to get some kind of counseling for helping you deal with his addiction. It-s not a far-fetched idea: famillies of drug addicts and alcoholics get help. It might help you put your feelings into perspective and deal with his bad decisions. I wish you the best of luck.
Try a different approach.

Negotiate. Ask him what would it take for him to quit smoking. Offer something that you do if he quit smoking.
You are not going to convince him.

But, for what it-s worth: Both my parents smoked, and both my parents-in-law smoked. They all probably died prematurely. My kids barely had any time with their grandparents. Both the grandparents and the grandkids have missed out on the special relationship that grandparents have with their grandchildren.
show him a real smokers lung, and see what he says about that.
Somebody has to quit smoking for them selves not because somebody else convinces them to. there is so much information around about the health problems of smoking and second hand smoke and if some body-s still smoking than it-s a deeper problem than a choice. For your own self, try to avoid the second hand smoke.
Start smoking in front of him!!! no really get a jar of water with used fag butts put the lid on and wait a few hours and give it to him. Or get a jar and place the cost of a packet of fags in there every day he-ll soon get the message. Or take him to a local hospice where people are dying from lung cancer. Yeah I know it-s strong. But you know what they say tough love. You need hard facts to give to him.
take him to the doctor and show him the x-rays to his lungs and what he has forward to look towards

How do I get my mom to quit smoking? -

She wont stop. She said she was for my birthday but she started again. How do I get her to stop? Whats in a cigarrete? What products can she use to help her?
My mom smoked to and yesterday was her 20-day not smoking anniversary and she stopped like this:
she ate more so she wouldn-t have the desire to smoke
we encouraged her everyday and promised a party for a whole month of not smoking
we didn-t give her a chance to smoke
and she saw me when she smoked and saw that every time I was coughing because I REALLY don-t like that smoke...
She won-t stop until SHE is ready and willing to stop
hypnotherapy works well, better the the Nicorette gum or the patches
get her nicotine patches or the gum and when she is runnin low in cigarrete go with her 2 get the gum or patches instead of the cigarretes but its about being patient because smoking is not that easy 2 give up because the nicotine helps relax u more like (stress) and it is also addicting after a while
Hi,

Great post! Quitting smoking was the hardest thing I-ve ever done in my life, and I thought I wasn-t addicted!

Here-s what I tried before finding success: hypnosis, those fake cigaretts, the nicotine patch, and group therapy....none worked.

I finally tried this HERBAL patch I bought 6 months ago on the net. They claim a 97% success rate. Well, it worked! They had a sweet deal which was a free 10 day trial for only $3.95 including shipping (it-s regularly $53 for 10 days)!!

I don-t know if they still have that deal, but it-s worth a try.

Good Luck
nicotine gum and the nicotine patch
take all her cigarettes and cut them up then throw them away
find pictures of lungs of a person that has smoked and put them somewhere where she-ll see them
tell her to eat some addicting candy like chocolate whenever she feels like smoking
don-t speak to her until she stops smoking
At least she has you as a deterant. Good luck. Alot of people don-t have anything to fight the smoking disease....
This is a little childish but it works you go to a joke shop and get these little looks like pencil len things and you stick them in your moms cigs they will small nasty taste nasty and shell throw them out
I am a mom who smokes and my daughter is always bugging me about stopping. I understand why she wants me to stop but in your moms defense quitting is the hardest thing to do. I would suggest having a serious talk with your mom about why you want her to quit. Don-t nag her about it. Be patient and supportive , suggest her trying the patch or nicotine gum and most of all when she does try quitting be there for her and try not to upset her too much while she is going through the withdrawal period. Good luck to both of you.
I have a really neat email i could send you that might help. It-s a painting on the ceiling of a designated smoking area. Hard to explain, but if you give me your email address i-ll forward it to you. good luck :P

I have friends both male and female smoker. How can i encourage them or say something to them to encourage them to quit smoking? They are old enough to know that smoking is bad for health. I am a non smoker
You can-t. It-s something they have to do for themselfs.
Very good you are the one who cares for your friends

They will not do it if you will tell them directly.
And it-s also not like that ki tey dont know the ill effects

Touch them emotionally...
If their old enough to buy the product, it-s their decision- not yours- besides, whoe-s going to pay the taxes to your state if they quit?
If you want your friends to quit smoking just tell them to quit smoking alot it they repeat it daily and if they tell you these words: -Go away- or - its none of your bussines and we want to smoke-. Then all you do is just leave them alone as the only thing you did is you encouraged them to not smoke. Also tell them its bad for the lungs and then they will just hear you, but maybe later they will stop.
Well, you can-t force them to, but you can let them know that you are concerned about their health.Once is enough. If they want to continue or quit, it-s their choice but let them know that whether or not they do so, it won-t hurt your friendship.
Good on you. tell there parents but don-t tell them you told.
Hope this helps.
Tell them to watch Thank You for Smoking. And, also, if they are old enuf to know it-s bad for their heath, they are old enuf to make desicions for themselves. And you should be old enuf to know you can-t make ppl stop doing something just because you think it-s wrong.

Kathy,

Nobody can make anybody do anything, especially when it comes to an addiction. Only the individual can make the decision for himself.

With regards to the rest of your question, I-m not really sure what you are asking. What do you want to understand, and who might he yell at?
Don-t try to make someone quit smoking. It will just annoy the crap out of them. A friend of mine said he would quit when people stop trying to make him quit.

You will find one.
I don-t smoke but I can help you quit. Here is the best answer for this type of situation. If you STOP smoking right now you will add 5 years to your life. Now who doesn-t want to live 5 years longer.
it is easy to quit smoking. stop being obsessive about the idea of quitting. relax. smoke slowly and feel the smoke and the smells in your mouth. slow down the process from starting to light one. keep doing this and suddenly, you will find the whole thing is so silly!

Can you really quit smoking? -

I don-t like being around smokers. My bf said he quit smoking, but recently when we one BIG fight, he smoked again. And thats not the first time. He said he want to quit and he definitely will, but I have a little faith.
i have smoked for 13 years and i think if i really wanted to quit i could. i was in the hospital for 2 weeks and didnt smoke and it didnt really bother me because i knew i couldnt. but i have never tried to quit because i enjoy smoking it calms my nerves and relieves my stress. as far as youre boyfriend i understand your concern, (my husband wants me to quit to, however if he smoked when you met him then you shouldnt push him so hard to quit because you accepted this when you started seeing him. also like i said it calms you and relieves stress so thats probably why he had to have a cigarette after the fight.
That answer is so old and lame all at the same time, efficiency of lameness I guess. -I could quit if I wanted- LMAO! No you can-t! If you could... You would. That simple. The deficits FAR outweigh the benefits. It calms yer nerves cause yer ADDICTED lol! I bet you even believe your excuses.

It is extremely hard to quit smoking. There are those who are dieing from cancer and they cannot quit. They will smoke until the day they die.
There is no doubt that you boyfriend wants and tries to quit. It is a stupid thing to do, but we do stupid things when we are young. If you love him, you must accept the good and bad. The more you nag the worse he feels and the worse he feels the more he will smoke.
Was he smoking before you got with him, if he was and you got with him any way you made the choice and it is not fair to try to get him to quit
I use to smoke 2 packs of Pall Mall no filter cigs 20 yrs ago and quit cold turkey, first thing is you have to really want to quit, second thing is you have to have a really strong mind, if you don-t you will never quit. People say that they want to mostly just to shut non smokers up then every chance they get upset or nervous that is their excuse to start up again. If you are weak minded just stop lying to everyone and yourself and keep smoking, but if you truly want to quit your mind will be strong and you will do it. Most likely your friend will not quit smoking until some type of life threatening ordeal will force him to do so.

I quit only because my son at age 3 at the time was allergic to second hand smoke and he could have died from it. Don-t get me wrong, I liked smoking back then but I loved my son to much not to quit. It was the second best thing I ever did. The first was having a family.

Good luck with your friend....

Don
no, it is impossible, nobody has ever done it. Only joking, you-ve just got to have incredible willpower.
I don-t smoke. So no idea....
Yes it is totally possible but only if the person really wants to quit! It takes strong will power more than anything else and if your bf friend doesn-t have that or if deep down, he actually enjoys smoking too much to quit then he probably won-t be able to.
It can be done--I quit the first time for 6 years--started again for a few months but realized how crazy that was and quit again. Have had a few cigs over the years (now almost 15 since I smoked regularly). Went thru a brief cigar stage about 5 years ago.
The big -but- is-when things are stressful, I still find myself thinking--Man, a cigarette would be good right now-

So 30+ years after I had my first cigarette, I still get the jones--a powerful testimony to how truly addictive nicotine is!

MM
yeahs! hell no`s !!
Possible, but very hard. Heidi
This method works for me and is the only money back guaranteed.

-His method is absolutely unique, removing the dependence on cigarettes, while you are actually smoking. I’m pleased to say it has worked for many of my friends and staff.”
Sir Richard Branson

“Some friends of mine who had stopped using Allen Carr’s method suggested I tried it. I did. It was such a revelation that instantly I was freed from my addiction. Like those friends of mine, I found it not only easy but unbelievably enjoyable to stay stopped.”
Sir Anthony Hopkins
