How can I quit smoking? -

How can I quit smoking? Everyday I am smoking more and more. What can I do?
A TRUE TESTIMONY***

My 53 year old brother told me that he got serious about quitting cigaretts when the doctor diagnosed him with pancreatic cancer. He said that he knelt down beside his bed one nite and asked GOD to take the taste/desire of cigarettes away and the very next day he saw a different and NEVEr desired to smoke any more. So my best answer to successfully STOP without withdraw symptoms is TRY GOD! He shows no respect of person, you know?

Remind yourself that cigarettes are not good for your health and you dont want to invest your money, health or life in something that may one day serve a death sentence on you!

Depends on how much you smoke.

I quit a 5 pack a day habit after 55 + years

step #1 is having a real good reason to quit.

Step #2 (I think) is to get an anti Anxiety drug, like Ativan to help you thru the Nic Fits ( I only needed 2)

Step #3 slowly cut back
with strong will.where there-s a will there-s a way.
I quit years ago and I found that I could not quit if I had waited until I had run out so when I was ready I through out the last of them

I had really bad cravings and this is what helped me

I also found that I had allot more time on my hand-s

I was the type that I do - X - after my smoke so when I quit I had all this time on my hands so I found it helpful to start a hobby and I live in the country so I would go for walks

After I ate was the worst for me and at first I did not eat and than a friend recomended to me to chew gum after meals and that did help

But for me I lost 15 lbs in four months

Get someone for surport if all of your friend-s smoke go to the health unit they now have quit smoking help and were I live they have -buddies- that you can call all of whom have quit smoking

And all of the money that you would normally spend on smoking put away have a jar and if you but one pack a day put the money it would have cost in the jar

If you buy by the carton what ever you spend in a week break it up so you can put money in the jar every day

And every week or two get your self a treat not food

my friend who could not afford collage she put the money away and after two years she went

Start a bank account and once a month put your savings in and keep tract

I would treat myself every three months I got what I always wanted but could not afford

Another one of my friends decided to put the money away for her childrens collage
you will be suprised how fast it can add up

Most people have to try more then once so do not give up
Quit buyin them, do not bum them, if you have any left throw them away. Do it conciously, notice when you would normaly have one, and tell yourself you dont need one at that time...you can do it!
I quit cold turkey. I used to smoke about a pack of Marlboro Reds a day - and then I just decided to quit. All I used was Winterfresh gum, and just went with it.

One important thing is to not plan when you-re gonna quit. If you plan to quit -in one month- or -for New Year-s-, you-re more likely to fail. Just one day, decide that the pack you have is your last one - and do it.

Just be strong and give it time and you will make it.
I-m almost at 4 wks quit. Go to whyquit.com for lots of education and motivation. I used the patches for the 1st few days and then just chewed on straws or gum ad ate many Tootsie Pops.
