My dad is trying to quit smoking? -

He hasn-t smoked in like 1 hour, but his usual time is like every 30 minutes...but anyways he smokes a pack a day for about 25 years, when he woke up this morning his body is kinda hot, any ideas, and solutions?
I smoked for 27 years and tried several times to quit but you really have to WANT to quit to be able to do it. I had to use the help of several - stop smoking - devices like
the gum, an inhaler, meds and the patch but NOT all at once. it-s best to use two means at once although with the meds your only supposed to use it and thats it but what he should do is go to his doc and tell him he wants to quit smoking and to help him with a plan. After while it was like a competition between me and the cigarettes and the longer I went without one the the more points I got till I finally beat them. One morning I woke up and lit one, it tasted horriable and I put it out and never went back. That was 4 years ago.

Bandit is right, get him to drinks lots of water if you can. I was lucky I drank lots of water even when I was smoking.
Habits, Habits, and how to quit your very favourite habit, my favourite subject. we all make excuses for reactins, a little interpretations of little fevers, headaches, an unusual behaviour, let me tell you, smoking is habitual much like, drinking, eating, etc..the one way i figured was to trade smoking-bad habit- into good habit.Example: Brushing your teeth is a good habit-everytime you have the urge-remember:toothbrush. by the way, there are millions of books about how to quit-for aprice. All it takes is one good sense.
I quit cold turkey after a 3 pack a day habit. It-s going to be very hard for him for 2 weeks. Then it starts getting better. After a month, the nicotine is gone and the urges are mental. He can do this. Like you said he has set a milestone of 1 hour. He needs to never start over !!! The next milestone may be 3 hours, etc. But every minute that goes by brings him closer to his goal. Lighting even one cigarette puts you back to the beginning !

I recommend strong black coffee and lots and lots of water. He has to make an effort to flush as much of the nicotine out of his system as he can.

This is what worked for me. I am not a medical person, but I know the most important thing is determination. He has to make up his mind to beat this.

Good luck
Chantix is great for many people, it helped me.

Check out the Commit lozenges, too. They-re better than the patches and the gum, and they let you cut down on nicotine gradually. It also worked for me. I used them for two years after I stopped smoking, then used the Chantix to help me stop the Commit lozenges.

If I could stop with this stuff, so can anyone!

And BTW, your Dad is going to be very grouchy for a few days. Don-t take it personally! It-s the withdrawal.
He has to want to quit himself in order to quit smoking; not you, not your mother, no one will get him to quit otherwise. I know you have good intentions, but in the meantime, stop pestering and annoying the hell out of him by trying to get him to quit.
