Whats the best way to quit smoking for good? -

I seem to not be able to make it past the 2 week point when I quit smoking. Any helpful hints? What helped you quit? or what worked for someone you know? What did they do instead? How do you deal with the fatigue, I work 55 hours a week?
Chantix works great. Don-t have weight gain and other common problems with quitting. Most insurance companies do not cover it and it is a little over $120.00/ month. Only available by Rx. Worth the money if you are serious about quitting.
This Rx reduces the need for a strong will power, you will see that after a week on the Rx, you will not need to smoke.
You have to be totally ready to quit by yourself. You can-t become too dependent on products that are supposed to help you quit unless you are strong enough to fight the urges on your own. My grandma who smoked for 30 years quit cold turkey about 7 years ago and hasn-t smoked since. She admits she has urges, but she is determined enough to control them. She finds other things to keep her occupied, and maintains a healthy lifestyle. She looks and feels much better.
I suggest you should quit smoking when you are in a good position to quit. You can-t expect any good results when you are under a lot of stress.
You-ll know when its time. And be prepared to work hard to quit the habit. You just have to have power.
Good luck, and have a healthy life. :)
here theres a new and effective way to stop smoking. buy some medicine that-s called nicorette. its a gum. it has all the nicotine you need if you feel the urge of smoking. available only in mercury drugstores nationwide (philippines).
Just do it! I tried for a long time, but finally, I just stopped. Now I-ve been smoke free for over a year! If you do relapse, at a bar or something,(that was my weakness, drunkenness) Make sure you don-t smoke when you wake up in the morning. Just because you have a cig here and there doesn-t mean you-re a smoker again. just keep starting over until you don-t have to anymore.
my boyfriend did hypnosis and it worked! He hasnt smoked for 5 years and anytime he is around smoke he gets sick to his stomach. he smoekd for a long time too and that was the only thing that had any positive results
The most important ingredient is will power. If you can completely stay way from smoking for two weeks you definitely can quit. Stay from smoke filled environments and avoid alcohol
get niceret gum and or the patch.
I am currently using Chantix - depending on what type of insurance you have if it is paid or not. My insurance will pay if you agree to talk to a nurse on the phone 1 x every 2 weeks. They ask you questions about how you are feeling, when you most want to smoke, what you do to stop yourself, etc., etc. I have not found anything to help with the fatigue yet, nurse tells me that goes away with time. I use mints or chew on cinnamon toothpicks when I get the urge. GOOD LUCK.

I just quit smoking and I seem to be eating more and I cant have me gaining weight, the only kinda weight I wanna gain is in my chest and arms and legs. Not in my mid section. So, what Im asking is... Is there a way to minimize my appetite since I quit smoking?? Thanks
i agree on the gum.
some people also eat sunflower seeds so they are more occupied and don-t have to think about it so much but you can-t do that everywhere.
buy an electronic cigarette
Just don-t put the food in your mouth. It is that simple. There is no trick to it.
chewing gum! and snacking on healthy fruit...ect

I smoked for 11 years and quit 6 years ago. My lungs felt worse for the first couple of months, but after a few months they started getting better and better. Now I feel as if I-ve never smoked. I can actually run without feeling like I-m going to die! Keep it up. You-ll see the results!

Desperatley want to stop finding it more and more difficult it scares me to think I will never quit!!! HELP!!
i quit a few months ago. was smoking 10 a day. gradually cut back. i didnt use any patches or anything, just willpower. so cut back. till i was only smoking 1 right before bedtime which was the toughest one to give up cuz i felt like i couldnt fall asleep. u have to talk to urself. like when ur really really craving u have to remind urself that it-s not going to kill u. keep urself bz. remind urself that it-ll pass n ur doing it for urself n it-s going to be worth it in the end, etc etc etc...control the impulse, take a step back, think, have conversations with urself, find something to do. smokers punctuate their lives with cigarrettes. u need to break that cycle of reliance for regulation. believe in urself. u dont need that cigarette. good luck :)
Fear of success is the biggest obstacle to making a serious attempt.

Your dependency-conditioned mind is likely terrified at the thought that life without smoking won-t be worth living, or that you-ll leave part of you behind. But within just two weeks you-ll begin to develop a sense of both the gradually emerging beauty that is -you,- and a growing feeling that life without nicotine might actually be easier.
Quitting can be really difficult. The most important thing, for me though, is having a reliable support system. You can try all sorts of strategies, but the moment you feel the urge to smoke and there-s no one there to stop you from lighting a cigarette, then you-re back to your old ways in a snap. This is especially true if you-re surrounded by people who smoke. So it would be really help you to ask for support from your friends and family. It sounds cheesy, but you-ll really need it. In addition, women smokers have specific reasons on why they smoke. Here read this article, it might help you further:

http://247resourcecenter.com/health/3-facts-about-women-and-smoke-quitting.html

Best of luck! You can do it!
There are two natural supplements that help calm the cravings, and keep you from wanting to commit murder!

Gotu Kola and Blue Green Algae. They both address addictions, and go right to the heart of why you feel the need to smoke in the first place. They are -Brain Food-. Initially, they won-t just magically take away the desire, but they will take the edge off. Algae is best in the day, Gotu Kola at night. It takes a couple of weeks before you start feeling really GOOD, though.

I hate pharmaceuticals, but I saw Chantix work like a charm on my friend who smoked for more than 40 years. It gives you weird dreams, but I-ve observed that it does work.

Tobacco, like most feel good drugs useds up the -B- vitamins in your system. The B-s are anti stress vitamins, so that is why when you quit, you get the jitters and get agitated. When you are ready to quit, take a good B vitamin complex for 2 weeks prior to quitting That will get it all through your system so you don-t feel the withdrawels so much. Make sure you have a little food in your stomach or they could make you a little queezy When I quit, I munched on sunflower seeds in the shell all the time. It turns out that they are very high in B vitamins. Drink loads of water to flush the nicotene out of your system and try to stay away from sugary snacks.
Quit Buying And Bumming Them
The only way that worked for me was to leave my only pack in a candy dish in the front room. I-d try not to smoke but every once in a while I-d have one. Eventually the pack just sat there and I threw it away. Also try to replace it with something, I rode a bicycle, and expect to be miserable for the first week nicotene free. Good luck bro.
stop

seriously patch or gum
Try hypnotism. I did it fifteen years ago and haven-t smoked since. That was the best $39.99 that I ever spent.

P.S. I didn-t gain weight either. The hypnotism include a bit about not substituting one habit for another.

Check the hospitals in your area for information on hypnosis.

How can i convince father to quit smoking even if he doesnt care about all those health tips i tell him? -

How can i convince father to quit smoking even if he doesnt care about all those health tips i tell him? -

Hit him in the wallet. Tell him about all the things he will be able to afford once he quits spending the $150.00/month, or so, on smokes.

Look him in the eye, like my two boys did, and tell him you don-t want him to die on you.

Tell him you would like for him to smell better.

I think he does care about the health tips, he-s just so hooked on smoking, that he-s in denial about them.

-Nuff said?
Unfortunately you can not make your Father quit smoking. In fact the more you nag him about it, the more he probably wants a cigarette!
A lot of people think that if they keep lecturing people on what not to do then they will magically just stop, well I-m sorry but it doesn-t work like that.
The only time that your Father or any other smoker is going to stop is when THEY want to.
Say to your father not to smoke because of that i am also affecting. And also say him to meditate daily. This words spoken by him/her should be lovely.
You can-t love. Sorry but you can-t convince him. You can point out the smell! You can complain and bring the entire family in on it. I found the more it-s in your face the more you think about it.

If he thinks about it enough, he-ll do the right thing.
I can-t remember who said it, but one of my favorite quotes is about smoking. -Quitting-s easy - I-ve done it a thousand times-.

Quitting permenantly is another story. I am a smoker. I don-t want to quit, but wish I wanted to quit. This is what I am doing in the mean time...
I don-t have the ultimate desire to quit, but want to be healthier so I-ve done a few things to help a bit.

1. I excercise more. Some studies say that those who smoke and excercise regularly are healthier than those who don-t smoke or excercise at all.
2. I take breaks from smoking. I know smoking is effecting my health when I become really tired for 3 or more days for no reason, my sinuses/allergies are acting up more than usual or I have a lot of trouble sleeping. I then take about three days off from smoking and feel better.
3. I drink a lot of water. This curves appetite as well as cigarrette cravings.
4. Keep busy as much as possible. When the mind is off of cigarrettes, the desire is gone. I don-t know about you, but the no smoking adds on television and on billboards everywhere are the worst things for me. They just remind me of the fact that I smoke and trigger the need.

Not sure if this is anywhere near Dr. recommended, but it may help a bit until he is completely ready and determined to quit.
He won-t be able to quit until he is ready to. Just tell him you love him and that you want him to stick around for a long time. Be supportive. Let him quit on his own terms. You could request information from the American Lung Association. Emphysema and Cancer are not pretty. They both lead to terrible deaths. Imagine suffocating while your family watches. That-s basically what happens! Good Luck!
You know what? You can-t. Smoking is an awfully difficult addiction to give up, and trust me, even after you give it up you still want it. Health tips can sound like nagging. You may want to tell him that there are good things to help, but don-t nag, it-ll just make him feel guilty and that-ll make him want to smoke more.
you can-t. let it be. it is his decision to make, not yours.
The answer is LOVE. Try to pay attention to him and love him more nd more. Dont keep tellin him to quit, because addiction cant be forgotten that way.

I added up that my husband and I spend on average $160 a month on cigarettes and that-s only if he smokes one pack a day and usually he smokes 2 to 2 1/2 packs a day. I have three toddlers at home and I stay at home full time, I am so very stressed out but I want to quit. Please anyone with ideas or suggestions or who has gone through this and quit successfully, I would greatly appreciate words of encouragement and/or support that has help u through this.
Contact the American Cancer Society; your local hospital; American Lung Association; or any advertised Quit group. I quit cold turkey 25 years ago, and have led Quit groups. Talk with your family doctor, as he can give you a prescription for the patch, lozenges, or Wellbutrin. You are lucky that there are so many Quit aids available. You MUST declare your home a smoke free zone because of the 3 children. If you Must have a cigarette, go outside. Pick a quit date within the next 2 weeks, and get ready to be free of the habit. When you want a cigarette, take several deep breaths, take a quick walk around the block, drink 1-2 full glasses of water, or retreat to a quiet place and use relaxation methods for just a few minutes. Don-t worry about your husband-s habit--take care of yourself. It can be done, and MUST be a priority for you. Good Luck....
d magic word?

-nicotine patches-

go get them.........

n- best of luck!!!!!!
Love yourself!
Smoking is self-destruction, self-punishment, and any other self-inflicted damage.
You know well smoking destroys your health a puff at a time; using -stupid logic (obvious facts)- ; every puff punishes you for your or your loved ones- mistakes, remorses, failures, frustrations, and so on. Doesn-t it feel good and relief to be punished for your bad actions, get rid of that load in your concience, and feel that you pay for your mistakes (-- sins? --)?
Nicotine is poisonous for may species (e.g., insects, fungi, etc.) and addictive to humans; but it is as addictive as it is food, work, exercise, video games, pain killers and anything that makes you feel good, relief, successful and so on.
Learn to really love yourself, TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF and you will see life worth of living for and also you will enjoy even more all of your efforts (failures and successes)and the processes (time period) you put your efforts to.
Once you learn to love yourself, you will love even more the ones you love and teach them to learn to love themselves.
The rest of your life is yours to live happily. Cure your mind (heart) and you can cure your body a lot easier.
Do you remember: -do unto others...-?
Can you love others if you don-t know how to love yourself?
The addiction to smoking is all in your head. Your kids and finances are the main priority in your life right now so tell ure head to shut the @$%@ up when u think about smoking and move on. Trust me its simple.
Try buying the nicotine patch, gum, or any other products you can discover. No, I have never smoked in my life, but I know people who have and desperatley want to quit. If you get stressed out and feel like you need a ciggarette, try taking out your stress on other things, like taking a nap, taking a bath, relaxing. Think about your future, and your kid-s health and well being to keep you motivated. Don-t give up, it will be worth the work!
Everytime you pull out a cigarette, before it reaches your lips, think of your kids having to inhale your second hand smoke which is more harmful.

Cold turkey for a couple of weeks using the above method and you should be off the urge.
Your husband should do the same else with the box of ciagarettes lying around the house, it makes it easier for you to pick up one and more difficult to fight the temptation.
there could be any number of people here who had -successfully - done it any number of times. seriously , I am not a smoker.
I think one way is to slowly reduce the number of cigarettes you smoke daily.
reduce the quantity. another way to do this is by limiting the inhalations per cigarette. ( cheap trick , but it might work. like take 2 inhalations , put out the thing and keep it for later ? only at your home and in private. eh?)
try the usual things first, patches, gum etc,try to move the addiction (eg coffee) if you are in the Uk i know for a fact there are licenced people who can hyptize you in to not wanting to after just one session. good luck -x-
If alternative methods do not work for you,try cutting back little by little. I stopped by getting away from others that smoked at work. I chewed gum when the urged came. I smoked 2 packs a day down to 1 pack a week. I sometimes stop for weeks, but stress at work sometimes gets me going.
Try and stop for your children, think of the future of their health. If that doesn-t stop you nothing will.
I can help you with this i think, try your best not to smoke in a day throw away all your cigarettes and dont try to hide them either.Lol.im just joking, but you do that and it should work try for a week and you should be able to stop in no time.
get to the store and spend the money that you would have spent on killing yourself on some patches,,if not for you then do it for your kids,,I did it,,good luck
SOJ U GIEV!!!!!!111

To ex-smokers.. IYO, which are the best ways to quit smoking? -

Huh, I smoke, +or- a package of cigarettes a day.. even if they are very light, I don-t like tobe addicted to them, and would like to quit. To tell the truth, I managed to do that years ago, I hadn-t smoked for 4ys and 1/2, and was just happy! But a couple of years ago I restarted cuz I was living a very hard moment.. stupid choise, I know, but that is. I feel maybe I-m not ready to do that right now, yet; but, I know very well how unhealthy it is, so would like being able to face that challenge soon. Tell me your opinion and your experience, w/o trying to scare me with stories of cancers and similars, plz!! Really, I already know it-s not a good habit at all.. :((
Depends on you. I tried the gum but ended up cheating. Went on the patch and it seems to be working well. Starting running at the same time and I am really enjoying it. As you know it depends on your mind set, if you really want it, you can do it. Remember the first week is the hardest, start putting limits on when and where you can smoke now, delay lighting one up for a few minutes etc.
I have been smoke free for a month now (I know its still early), and I have had no desire to light up again.
Best of luck to you and your goal, and congrats for seriously thinking about quitting. Pick your date and go for it....
Easiest way out of this habit is to deliberately reduce the number of cigarettes per day and cut the number of puffs from each cigarette consciously, and increase the gap between one cigarette and next and de-link the association that we tend to cultivate our smoking instincts with any of the other activities like one for after food, or with drink or after drink or before or after sex or one for the road etc. one with friend, for the cold weather and one for the hot climate etc. and the number of times you skip those associations you will be closer to kicking off the habit and the sooner you can do that the better it is for you. I suggest you don’t put any timetable to quit that is in case you are chronically habituated to smoking for a very long time, say 20 years or so. Any cessation should be a slow process and each time you skip a usual cigarette you should be enjoying that as a small victory. Without your knowing you will be off and away from that dreaded habit and soon you will start feeling even repulsion to smoke, even secondhand smoke and also might be wondering why you were smoking all the while. This method works for any habit. Habits are like cobwebs first and get like steel mesh before we would know and so it is better to get rid of them very slowly.
If you stop abruptly then chances are you pick up that habit again abruptly, tomorrow or one year later and again it is the same story. This was my personal experience with smoking. I am an ex-smoker. Believe me. I need not preach about hazards of smoking, as everybody knows them. But unfortunately our blood and nervous system can-t be made aware of it. So we have to teach it to our system ourselves like we have acquired it. None else in the world will be in a position to help that in that process, even closest of close friends or family. All the very best.
Tell everybody you know about your decision.

for a complete explanation about the Trick To Quit Smoking
you cannot and will not quit until you make a decision to quit.
if you tell yourself you-re going to try to quit smoking, you will not quit. your mind has to be set. A couple of other things will help, too...the Nicorette gum helps, if you drink alcohol, switch to non-alcoholic beer for 2-3 months.

I was smoking 3 packs of camels a day, and quit cold turkey using the above methods. That was nearly 17 years ago and I haven-t had a cigarette since.
Cut down on the amount of packages you Smoke in a day.Keep doing that progressively and you are going to see changes.*Ask for proffessional help.
i just stopped it ..i think it is a mind thing
i used to smoke, but not anymore, it has been 2 1/2 years ... i tried to quit, but it wasn-t easy ... so i switched my brand to something really really light (those skinny, long cigarrete for women) ... they were so light that i didn-t feel a thing ... then after a while (like a week or so) ... i just didn-t feel like smoking anymore ...

that was how i quitted.

wait, my co-workers just stopped by and asked if i want to go for a smoke break w/ them ... i think i-ll stay here instead :-)
That-s a hard one...I-m a ex-smoker...then not! Just like you. I do fine if I am not around smoke/smokers. I usually only smoke NOW if I am out with the clan in a social atmosphere. If I-m attending a gathering and drinking...i smoke. I CAN-T smoke in the morning...or all day long. I would vomit! When I attend a social gathering, I can slam down a pack in no time...I hate it. I never have a alcohol hangover...don-t drink that much...but the butt-handover...ARGH! I keep telling myself it is so unhealthy. I quit cold turkey once. The most I-ve gone without smoking is about 14 days. I don-t know...nic. support groups...reading about it. I was told to keep yourself busy when ya get a craving...Good luck! Let me know!
Cold turkey!
-Trying- to quit leaves the cop-out probability of slipping back because you -tried-
. It-s so easy to forgive yourself if you tried.
Think of it this way: It should be (is) easier NOT to do something than to do it. Sounds simplistic but believe me - it gets easier every day and the rewards are manifold. You don-t need luck...just resolve.
Quit cold turkey. Use your will. It is the greatest force on earth ! Good Luck ! :)
I quit cold turkey. Simply stopped buying them. (I had a nasty head/respiratory bug at the time so it helped.) Now I just conciously look at cigarettes and anyone who is smoking and think of throwing up. (this has gotten so realistic I feel sick writing it)
Try antidepressant Zyban (Bupropion XL). It helps with withdrawal symptoms, cravings, and urges. It is the most useful drug in my opinion.

Varenicline (Chantix, Pfizer, usually as varenicline tartrate) is a prescription medication used to treat smoking addiction. By acting similarly to nicotine on the brain it reduces cravings for cigarettes and other tobacco products and may assist some patients in smoking cessation.

First take a decision to quit smoking. Start Zyban 150mg. Try to avoid smoking. The drug will take 3 - 12 weeks for a full effect. I hope you will be able stop smoking completely in 2 months. Continue the drug for some months after quit smoking, it prevents relapse. Much better if you do these things under the supervision of a Clinical Psychiatrist.

A lot of other techniques like Hypnosis, Herbal preparations such as Kava Kava and Chamomile, Nutritional nicotine detoxification, Acupuncture are available, but not effective.

Stop smoking and get benefits like

Compared to smokers, your…
Stroke risk is reduced to that of a person who never smoked after 5 to 15 years of not smoking

Cancers of the mouth, throat, and esophagus risks are halved 5 years after quitting

Cancer of the larynx risk is reduced after quitting

Coronary heart disease risk is cut by half 1 year after quitting and is nearly the same as someone who never smoked 15 years after quitting

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease risk of death is reduced after you quit Lung cancer risk drops by as much as half 10 years after quitting

Ulcer risk drops after quitting

Bladder cancer risk is halved a few years after quitting

Peripheral artery disease goes down after quitting

Cervical cancer risk is reduced a few years after quitting

Low birth weight baby risk drops to normal if you quit before pregnancy or during your first trimester the benefits of quitting
look at it as -mind over matter- you can do it
Carry an pack of cigarettes on you without the cigarettes in it. Put either gum or a tasty treat in it (my favorite was Hershey-s) The chocolate puts you in a great mood.

The hardest part about quiting smoking is quiting the habit of doing it, not the nicotine. On average it takes 8 weeks to start a habit (IE A work out routine) So I would assume it takes about the same to break one.

Congrats on willing to quit. You know your lungs start to repair themselves after your last cigarette?!
I quit about 4 years ago. I quit cold turkey. I think I was addicted to the habit of actually smoking more than the nicotene. Especially while driving. So, I started eating sunflower seeds so I would still have that motion. It worked and I have been smoke free for 4 years with no problem!

What are some ways i can help a friend quit smoking? -

spend time with your friend by hanging out with them, keep feeding him or her gum as a substitute for smoking, a nice day at the spa if not that you can always steal their cigarettes take them away or just try to get a bunch of your friends together and stage an ambush to take your friend on a intervention trip to help get rid of the need to smoke
call 311
I think you can suggest your friend to eat a fish (edible ones) raw.
Maybe he/she will quit.It doesnt really work on everyone.
What-s up w/ u-r Avatar-s hat?!?!?!? It-s kinda creepy!
Buy her those patches that you put on your arm. My brother tried it and he really didn-t feel like smoking, Also, find those pictures online that show how the insides of a smoker look. That should scare her, him away.
When she-s passed out on 6 sleeping pills, sew up her mouth.
Convince him/her of the consequences and motivate. Remind daily.
i recommend cinnamon candies or red hots, that is how my ex bf dads stop smoking
I guess the first question is: does your friend want to quit smoking? If yes, then be supportive of his/her choice...go to places where smoking isn-t allowed, help them go through their house and get rid of all ash trays, lighters, and hidden stashes of cigarettes, for many just having a friend be there and wanting to help them quit is enough.
Lock him/her in a room for a month and make them fight it out.

I dunno, maybe that isn-t so nice... lol ; )

If you know they-d be honest, maybe promise to treat him/her to an ice cream, a coffee, a something, after each week they get through without smoking at all. Make it a fun get together incentive.
About the only thing a person can do is not smoke in front of the person trying to quit or get them drunk. Be supportive, not nagging. It-s really up to the individual.
U can suggest and U can be a friend, but the decision has to be made by them....they got to -want- to stop...U can not make them stop...but be there 4 them when they need U....drugs, alcohol etc...same thing...
go out sied go for work put flawws in the ahtray
yell at her tell her mom or the popoes!
It-s hard to get them to quite unless THEY want to. I tried for many years to quit because some of my family and friends didn-t like it, but it was only until I realized I wanted to quit for ME, that I actually did.

Don-t preach to them, that-ll only make them want to light up another one. Just be supportive, etc.
If your friend wishes to quit, then she-ll quit and come looking to you for support...but to try to force or -scare-(as a smoker myself, I know the reasons not to smoke...but I do it because I like it, and if and when the time comes, I-ll pay the consequences for it)her...that won-t do any good. We all know the risks of smoking, we all know what can happen if you do it...if you-re friend still considers to do it...then let it alone.

Ways to help quit smoking? -

I am being forced to quit smoking, i really don-t want to but i don-t have a choice. Is there anything that can help me out? I-ve tried chewing gum, but that-s not much help. It is really the hardest thing to do and i don-t think there-s anything that can help. Any techniques would be great though. Will i ever even fully quit? or will i always keep wanting a smoke?
it-s really all in your head - YOU must decide that you WANT to stop, and you will.

gum, candy etc. will help to REPLACE the smokes, whenever you feel like lighting up. But in the end, it-s your mind doing all the work. Mental crutches do work - see below.

-Will i ever even fully quit? or will i always keep wanting a smoke?- yes, you will.
I smoked when I was young and stopped when our son was born - cold turkey, same day. Tried a cigar years later, did not taste and never wanted another smoke again.

best thing you-ll ever do for yourself and those around you!

Hi. Anybody out there that can offer me ways to quit smoking amp; drinking? Im at wits end - thanks? -

First of all you have to be committed to quiting. If you-re not completely committed then forget about quiting. For smoking you need to get on like a program or something. You need to find something that works for you. Maybe go to your doctor and they can help you. Gum, patches. I-m sure there-s some medicine to help too. Drinking is a lot easier to stop. If you can-t stop drinking, then you-re an alcoholic aand you need to get serious help for that. Otherwise, just keep yourself away from parties and people who are going to drink around you. You need to just say no to drinking, buying alcohol or anything. Don-t go to bars or whatever, go bowling instead lol. Get rid of the alcohol in your house. Drinking is really as simple as just not doing it. Smoking is an addiction though so it-s harder. But when things get hard and you feel like you need to smoke or drink, especially when you-re stressed, don-t turn to drinking or smoking. Have to do something else that helps. Exercise or get a massage or i dont know lol, go to the movies.
Hi I-m an alcoholic and I stopped drinking two years ago. I-ve never had a relapse, I quit without Alcoholics anonymous. I have terrible willpower but I still succeeded and I can say with confidence that I will never drink again.

ONE THING AT A TIME!

If you want to quit drinking, don-t try quitting smoking at the same time. It just won-t work and you will fail. It is too much to take on at one time.

Firstly admit that you have a problem, (I assume you have done this) Make a date to quit and see your Doctor about help with withdrawal.

Avoid places where people are drinking in the early days

Join AA only if you must as they have a really high failure rate, instead try rational recovery. (this worked great for me)

Keep a journal and write down all of the emotions you go through after quitting and help you to remind yourself why you quit in the first place.

Join a gym and get fit, this will help a lot.

Get a new hobby and find something which makes your life more enjoyable.

Read about cognitive behavior therapy, You can buy a -Dummies- book about it from Amazon

Meditate daily, try
http://www.moonfish-design.co.uk
there are some great free tools there.

Keep reminding yourself why you quit, don-t listen to the internal voice which tells you to start again.

Do it a day at a time, the days merge into weeks, months and then years.

Check out my blog about alcohol addiction
http://www.addictvoice.com
you-ll find some more tips there.

Wishing you the best, if you really want to quit you will.

Cold turkey, the only way to quit...and lots of support afterward. I-m an ex smoker, I tried gum, pills, patches, filters, everything but hypnosis (not a candidate.) the only thing that worked was putting them down and not picking them up again. It was hell for a few months, but got easier as time passed.
cold turkey... will power... evrythin else is prettymuch useless
Ok, I know most will roll thier eyes at this but.... Alcoholics Anonymous really does help a lot. They use a 12 step program that can also help with any other addictions (of any kind), so it could help with the smoking also. I know it is not for some, maybe not for you, but if doing it on your own doesn-t work (like it didn-t for me), it-s an option. If nothing else, it provides tons of support and I know it has worked for tons of people. You-ve probably already heard of it so if it-s not your kind of thing just disregard....but either way good luck!!!!
yo i can help but it will cost you a little bit of time no doubt about it
here is a method to quit smoking in which you do not need any professional or a deaddiction programme. its a self-help method, you will succeed if you are enough determined to get rid of this evil habit. then here it is :
Saying many ways is not a big deal but you have to accept it so first try to control your mind - heart create a feeling that if your supposed to see a cigar or drink you have to hate it as soon as you seen that, anger towards that must fill your must fill your heart. If ur not sure that u can-t control it by ur mind then go for some pills that-ll help you in controlling - avoiding that things, If ur ready to go for a pills then consult doctors advice befora taking that pills.. The decision u-ve taken to quit smoking - drinking is really good try to leave it soon..All the best...

I have been on Chantix for 18 days amp; have quit smoking after 40 years, but I cant fall asleep at night amp; when? -

I finally do, I keep waking up until its lite out, then I go out cold..any comments?
Congratulations! Difficulty sleeping is a common withdrawal problem, so the best I can suggest is that you tough it out, it should improve. Vivid dreams are also a common complaint when using Chantix, I had them myself when I used it (and found them more interesting than troubling).
Thats a weird situation you got there... Im not a professional. So I would go and book an appointment at the doctors, and tell him. He shoudl be able to help.
Sorry I couldn-t help :\

If you are serious about losing fat (not weight), eating healthy, and toning and sculpt your body, you can use the Fat Burning and Body Sculpting program I made for my friend to get her in shape for her wedding day. The program contains information on diet plans (what is the worst and why and what is the best and why), exercising, supplements, calories requirement, BMI, etc. If you care to have the Program as well as many other useful Fitness Materials, join the NYC_BSFBC Yahoo Group and you will receive the Program and all other materials upon joining. Here is the link to the group:

well i would suggest you start working out..
not just here and there..make a routine for yourself..
excercise whenever you feel like smoking too..

kinda like dropping one habit for another..

How can I quit smoking if my boyfriend smokes every 20 minutes? -

I am constantly tring to quit but he doesn-t want to even if he hides it from me I still know he has them how can I convince him to quit w/me? Help!
Get a new boyfriend. Sounds like you have to either like it or lump it.
Maybe you should ask the question
is it wrong that i am trying to control what my boyfreind is doing after all it is up to him
just a thought
x
Just say quit or ur dumped.
You can not convince him to quit any more than someone could have convinced you to quit before you were ready.
Ask him to honor your intentions to quit by not smoking when you are around or in your living space or car.
i say the first answer... yes everytime he buys a pack of cigaretes u putit on a piece of paper after a month add everything and show him how much money he is wasting and show him everything he can buy with the money hes smoking
I don-t know girl, good question I-m going through the same thing too right now. I-ve tried to calculate how much money we could save if we both quit smoking, we-ve tried smoking outside (so then we wouldnt want to), weve ate instead of smoked (lol I think we all do that)

Help, I have gained 22 pounds since I quit smoking, how do I shed these unwanted pounds? -

Yes, I did it! I quit the bad habit of smoking. April will be my 1 year anniversary. I smoked for 20 years - it was time to stop. For all of you that has tried - not suceeded or planning to quit, I went through acculaser. It cost me $200.00 but was well worth it. Almost 1 year of being smoke free but gained 22 pounds. Does anyone have any ideas on how to shed these pounds? any advuce would be helpful. I do excercise regurly 3 - 4 times a week.
Way to go! I wish my best friend would quit!

You need to jumpstart your metabolism, since smoking really screws it up.

Eat something every 3 hours - no exceptions - about 5 or 6 small meals per day. Get a combination of protien and carbs in each snack, plus fruits and veggies of course. Good snacks for work are yogurt, almonds, string cheese, wheat crackers with cheddar, etc. Drink lots of water and avoid artificial sweetners, as they cause hunger and make you bloated. Diet sodas are the absolute worst!

Also, work in some weight training if you don-t already. Every pound of muscle you have burns 50 calories per day just sitting there! So the more you build, the more calories your body will burn without even trying.
thats why im scared to quit smoking.....
y don-t u start smoke again... hahaa... just joking... maybe u have to plan ur eating program. how much u eat must be level with how much uve done a day. for example, if u r a student who walks to school which ur house is about 2km+ distance away to ur school. u may need a lot of energy to walk. and so, its ok 4 u to eat much. but if u go to school by bus, theres no need 4 u to eat more... and 1 more, owez drinks alot of sky juice and, if u wanna, t8 a supplements. i suggest u to take Bcomplex.
I found a great way to lose weight fast and keep it off. I do body cleansing. I lost 13 pounds in 9 days and then 28 pounds in less than a month. Cleansing will help the body get rid of impurities. Impurites come from a lot of things like fast food, pollution, food additives and preservatives etc. The impurities get stored in the fat in our body. To shrink the fat, we have to get rid of the impurities by cleansing. This made sense to me and I decided to try a cleanse program and it worked. The weight came off fast and this kept me motivated to keep going, not like other diets where the weight loss it too slow. To learn more call the toll free number 1-877-587-4647 or check out the website. Cleansing was good for me. Good luck whatever you decide to do!

eat one less candy bar and drink one less can of soda every day
Stop eating food. You will lose weight.

Im quitting smoking for the second time but how dose smoking increase your metabolism? -

Cause I dnt want to put any weight on when i stop - can i lose weight and quit smoking at the same time? I want to do both at the same time will stopping smoking make a difference to how much weight i will lose?
Smoking increases your metabolism because nicotine is a CNS stimulant that makes your body produce stress hormones. (Other stimulant drugs make you lose weight as well, including diet pills.) For that reason, people who stop smoking normally gain a few pounds initially and have to take it off.

So -- congratulations on your resolve, but don-t try to do both at the same time. It-s just too hard and you-ll be setting yourself up for failure. Stop smoking first, it-s the more difficult of the two and unless you-re morbidly obese the more important from a health perspective. Then, when you-re past the withdrawal, you can lose weight with a low carb diet and exercise. I stopped five months ago and after gaining weight for the first four months, I-ve started to lose it again naturally, without a special diet -- I-ve lost 16 pounds or so. I plan to let nature keep taking its course and only if the weight loss stops before I-m down to a reasonable weight will I think about a formal diet.
Joshua gave a great answer to this question. I-ll just add one more thing - both Zyban and nicotine gum have been shown in studies to at least delay weight gain (while on the med(s), you don-t gain weight). Zyban (Wellbutrin, buropion) is by prescription only while the gum is over-the-counter. Just remember that health wise, quitting smoking is the best thing you can do! If you do gain any weight (or want to lose weight), tackle that when you feel you-re comfortable with not smoking. For other tips, check out http://www.quit-smoking-support-dr.com/Quit-Smoking-Weight-Gain.html
yes you can ,the problem when you quit smoking your brain tries to find substitute for nicotine so it replaces with sugar and its another kind of addiction
but here is it
try to work out and let your brain Enjoys the endorphins from hard working out ,in the same time you wont be gaining any weight and try to cut on sugars at least for 3 months
eat healthy ,detox your body every month for a week ,drink water ,enjoy life and i m happy for you because you are wise enough to stop this killer from entering your body
and no smoking doesn-t speed up your metabolism its bad for you and you don-t feel like eating because when your health is bad you have no appetite that-s all
...Yes and working overtime to afford the darn things.

I quit after many, many years and have not looked back. If I dream about smoking, then and only then, it is okay to have a cigarette. Otherwise no. Sure I miss it but I prefer sleeping through the night without waking up coughing my lungs out.

I keep my weight down by snacking on celery and carrots throughout the day. I try to fit in, at least, twenty minutes of walking, too.

T
Smoking increases the metabolism from all of the extra energy your body expends on trying to breathe clean air and all the activities associated with before and after smoking, like walking to the store in order to buy cigarettes and walking to the designated smoking area, etc.

Has anyone successfully used Nicoderm CQ to quit smoking? If so, what was your experience with the patch like -

Has anyone successfully used Nicoderm CQ to quit smoking? If so, what was your experience with the patch like -

For example, did you still go through withdrwal after you quit smoking AND after you finished the program?
The patch allows you to get over your oral fixation before getting rid of the nicotine. Be careful about the step you buy and absolutely do not smoke while wearing the patch (my uncle had a heart attack while doing this-nic. overdose) I had horrible dreams because my patches were too much, too. You can take them off at night and put one on waking up in the morning. Yes, they do work, but you have to really want to quit. You can-t expect not to want to smoke any more after you put it on. You may still want to smoke, but you have to be dedicated to quitting to be successful
I used the CQ Patch. It definitely worked. However, I accidently got the patch that-s nicotine content was higher than my brand of cigarettes. It sez you can sleep with it on, which I did. I wound up overdosing on the nicotine - having this WILD dream I can still remember! I called the 800 number on the box. They mailed me a refund (after telling me to remove the patch!). I used that $ to buy the next level down-s patch. I haven-t smoked in 11 years.
No, you don-t go through withdrawal from the patch.
my boyfriends dad used the patch for one week and it is going on 2 months and he hasnt smoked a cig. but within the first few days he maybe smoked 2-3. he only used the first step to quit he didnt have to use all steps to quit. good luck. im a smoker im 26 and ive been smoking since h.s. i have 3 kids quit every pregnancy and started right after. its hard to quit.
you can overdose on nicotine if waring a patch and having a crafty fag
Wow I am impressed with all the great answers. I have tried the patch, allergic to adheasive. But, that was only found out about 6 weeks after starting. I thought 6 weeks was great. So, i do believe it does work. I have also tried the commit lozenges. You place this large round pill in the side of your mouth and let it sit there until dissolves. But, well excuses, excuses. Ok well great answer to that poster who gave the Allen Carr Method.
Forget that. This works and it-s free! Every time you want to smoke drink water. Simple water - it works. Also give yourself some motivation - think about the health benefits, write down weekly how much money you-ve saved. Then get mad at the tobacco companies for getting you addicted in the first place! The first week is the worst - after that it gets easier. After a month - if you have really made up your mind and still writing down the cash savings in your diary - you should be a non smoker! I was a terrible addict. I-m just about to come up to 3 years as a non-smoker - can taste my food better. Feel better. More money! But I do eat a lot of candy! But I also had to give up alcohol for health reasons - so candy is nothing by comparison to 200 cigarettes a week and the booze too. Saving so far - around £4,000 - I-m English! That-s about $7,500 - but I bought them cheap!
This method works for me, I quite smoking 2 year ago.
This method is the only money back guaranteed.

Get the Facts
Easyway, founded by Allen Carr in 1983, has the highest independently verified 12-month success rate (75.8% for a smoker completing the program) of any quit smoking technique and a 90% satisfaction rating.

Compare Easyway to other methods and see for yourself why Easyway is called “The Cadillac of quit smoking methods.”

The Allen Carr Method
HOW THE METHOD WORKS

Using psychotherapy, the method works in the opposite way to the “willpower” method. It does not concentrate on the reasons the smoker should not smoke : the money, the slavery, the health risks and the stigma. Smokers know all that already. Instead it focuses on why smokers continue to smoke in spite of the obvious disadvantages.

It is fear that keeps smokers hooked!

Fear the smoker will have to give up their pleasure or crutch. Fear the smoker will be unable to enjoy life or handle stress. Fear the smoker will have to go through an awful trauma to get free. Fear the smoker will never get completely free from the craving.

The Method removes these fears
Smokers quit with the Allen Carr Method as happy non-smokers, not feeling deprived but with a huge sense of relief and elation that they have finally achieved what they always wanted….

TO BE FREE!

What about the terrible withdrawal pangs from nicotine?

The physical withdrawal from nicotine is so slight that most smokers don’t realise that they are addicts. What smokers suffer when they try and quit using other methods is the misery and depression caused by the belief that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch.

The Allen Carr Method removes this feeling of deprivation.
It removes the need and desire to smoke. Once the smoker is in the right frame of mind and they follow the simple instructions, the physical withdrawal from nicotine is hardly noticeable.

No Gimmicks!

The Method does not use any gimmicks, useless aids or substitutes. No nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, tabs, inhilators or nasal sprays! No needles! No lasers! No drugs! No herbs! No shock treatment!

The Allen Carr Method is successful because:

It removes the smokers’ conflict of will.
There are no bad withdrawal pangs.
It is instantaneous and easy.
It is equally effective for long-term heavy smokers and light smokers.
You need not gain weight.
You will not miss smoking.

Medical Endorsements

A personal view from Professor Judith Mackay MBE, JP, FRCO (Edin), FRCP (Lon), World Health Organisation Advisory Panel on Tobacco and Health

“I have no hesitation in supporting Allen Carr’s work. Many clinics use some of his techniques but it would appear that few do it in quite such a successful package.”

Carole Johnson, Coronary Heart Disease Prevention Unit, Tyne Tees

“his success rate was such that, when budgets allow, we continue to use Easyway for work with specific groups and individuals.”

Dr Anil Visa BSc, MBBch., FRCA, Consultant – Royal Hospitals NHS Trust – Royal London Hospital

“I have observed the Allen Carr method at first hand and have found it to be very successful and I wholeheartedly support it as an effective way to quit smoking.”

Dr William Green, Head of Psychiatric Dept, Matilda Hospital, Hong Kong

“It is a remarkable fact that Allen Carr, on his own admission a non-professional in behaviour modification, should have succeeded where countless psychologists and psychiatrists holding postgraduate qualifications have failed, in formulating a simple and effective way to stop smoking.”

Dr Martin Jarvis, Principle Scientist, Imperial Cancer Research
Fund and Reader in Health Psychology, University College London

”...I am more than happy to testify to Allen Carr’s enduring involvement and to recognise the value of the kind of behavioural and cognitive support he provides.”

Dr PM Bray MB CH.b., MRCGP

“I was really impressed by the method. In spite of the Allen Carr organisation’s success and fame, there were no gimmicks and the professional approach was something a GP could readily respect. I would be happy to give a medical endorsement of the method to anyone.”

Celebrity Endorsements

“His method is absolutely unique, removing the dependence on cigarettes, while you are actually smoking. I’m pleased to say it has worked for many of my friends and staff.”
Sir Richard Branson

“Some friends of mine who had stopped using Allen Carr’s method suggested I tried it. I did. It was such a revelation that instantly I was freed from my addiction. Like those friends of mine, I found it not only easy but unbelievably enjoyable to stay stopped.”
Sir Anthony Hopkins
I successfully stopped smoking after 26 years of heavy smoking 2 years ago, by using the Nicoderm patch. The only withdrawl symptom it did not help me with was the need to smoke after the evening meal while relaxing in front of TV, so I started cramming York peppermint patties in my mouth, they helped with the cravings. All other withdrawl symptoms totally were gone the patch helps get rid of them even after. I recomend it to anyone that really wants to quit.You-ve got to really really want to quit!
Did you know it takes 100 mg of arsenic to kill you - only 45 mg of nicotene. So be carefull when you use that kind of stuff. Don-t smoke at all when you are on that kind of a program.
It works, but you must have a strong support network willing to help you transition from being a smoker to a non-smoker.

want to quit smoking. whats your advice? if youre an ex-smoker can you share your experiences to me? thanks a lot!!!
Asking for advice is a great first step! I-m a few hours shy of day 56 without cigarettes. There are prescriptions you can get from your doctor that will help. There are Nicotine Replacement Therapies like patches or gum or lozenges. There-s good old cold turkey. There are a multitude of support groups.

I used the lozenge for about a week even though the instructions call for longer. It started to make me a little nauseous so I went cold turkey after that.

All in all though, desire to quit is the key.
A making the step to quit smoking. I just recently quit in about March and I did so cold turkey. One morning I woke up with a heavy chest again and coughing up a lung and I decided today I was going to quit smoking. Luckily for me I did not have any cigarettes on me because I had finished my pack the night before.

So I went to work without giving into the temptation to stop at the corner store for a pack and I have not smoke a cigarette since this. Honestly you just have to have the will to quit. If you are not ready then psych yourself into getting ready. Look at all the negatives you live with, short of breath, always reeking of smoking, limiting your romantic partner, the $$ you spend, and tell yourself you deserve better than that. At this point try whatever means you might be comfortable with, the patch, cold turkey, gum whichever. After 24-72 all the nicotine is out of your system. If you can make it a week without the stuff through the headaches and mood swings your doing good. For the most part it might be the mental stuff that pulls you back in. Loved a cigarette after a big meal, with a beer, going out with your friends? You have to limit the activities you do after you quit at first that lead you to smoke. Yes it might stink not going to the bar with some friends on the weekend for a month or so but wait until you are strong enough to avoid the temptation. Lastly, always keeps something to keep your mouth busy when you get an urge, either gum or sugar free candy. It helps. Good Luck to you!
I had to take a job that was a 48 hour shift and no smoking and I smoked. It was tough at first with the withdraw from nicotein. I asked my doctor about a patch and he said he wouldn-t Rx it because he didn-t want to treat the problem with the drug that was causing the problem. After a few weeks I made a connection that my work place did not smell like smoke and when I returned home after shifts and always found my house did smell like smoke, so I lit up a few days and went back to the job and it got easier. I have since cleaned up the house so it doesn-t smell like smoke. I also play in clubs and it was always bad for musicians to sit through the haze for 4-5 hours in a smoky barroom. They passed a no smoking law and people can-t smoke in bars here anymore. I-d say stay away from the tobacco smell and like my doctor said you need to quit, just quit.
Quit smoking? -

How did you quit smoking? -

How did you quit smoking? -

I ran out of money. haha
Smokings expensive.
In Arizona I pay about 8 bucks a pack.
I almost had a heart attack when I went to Cali and only paid 4 bucks for Marb Reds.

Anyways- you just have to suffer it out. It-s like having hunger pains, wanting to eat, but wanting to lose weight and not eating lunch. You feel discomfort- but you just have to deal.

also everytime I crave a cigarette I try to do something healthy for myself. Like- when I crave a cigarette in the morning soooo bad, I-ll go take a walk.
Just think of heart disease, think of cancer, stroke, bronchitis, and think of emphysema! There are approximately 4000 chemicals in cigarette smoke, many of them toxic. The ingredients in cigarettes affect everything from the internal functioning of organs to the efficiency of the body-s immune system. The effects of cigarette smoking are destructive and widespread. Cigarette smoking causes 87% of lung cancer deaths. Cigarette smoking alone is directly responsible for approximately 30% of all cancer deaths annually in the United States. Each year, a staggering 440,000 people die in the US from tobacco use. Nearly 1 of every 5 deaths is related to smoking. About 87% of lung cancer deaths are caused by smoking. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among both men and women, and is one of the most difficult cancers to treat. But not all of the health problems related to smoking result only in deaths. Many of these smokers are suffering from more than one smoking-related condition. The diseases occurring most often were chronic bronchitis, emphysema, heart attacks, strokes, and cancer. Emphysema is one of the worst things to live with that you can imagine. I watched my mom suffer with it for years. There is nothing worse than not being able to breath, it-s like torture. You can go on for years like that. And you know what it can be like to live after a stroke?

If all this is not enough to motivate you to stay quit, or get you over the cravings, than nothing will. Than your a fool indeed. Sorry to be harsh, but I have always beieved some of the dumbest people in the world are smokers who keep on smoking. Yes it-s a powerful addiction. I smoked when I was a teeneager, also use marijauana, cocaine, pills, speed, narcotics, etc. I quit them ALL!! I am almost 50 and can hold my breath or sing a single tune for almost two years. I play the tune game with my daughter. Everytime I do, I think to myself Thank GOD for good lungs and being able to breath easily, and I would NEVER smoke in a million years!

cold turkey, no money for smokes, pay for gas at the pump, and don-t go to places that sell cigarettes, most stores have assigned registers or special locations to buy them, just stop using them, if not just hold them and put them back at the very end when u are about to pay, i started when i was 14 quit at 17, I-m really proud of that, but still take one about once a year. for old times sake.
i quit by having niccotine patches, but it didnt work, so i went cold turkey and it worked, have faith in yourself and remember, cravings only last a couple of minutes or so, if you learned to walk, drive, talk, run, there the hardest challenges of all, but quitting is tiny, all you have 2 do is put down the last ciggi down! GOOD LUCK XOXOXO

from KitY :o)
I developed a severe rash like whelps on my legs and buttocks around the age of 9 and I had to stop.

It was either that or my dad said he was going to kill me if I ever filched another cigarette from off the top of the refrigerator. That was the FIRST time I learned that cigarettes were harmful to your health.
I actually kept the pack in my pocket (one of those hard cases), and just decided -Okay, I don-t wanna smoke anymore.- It-s all about will power. But I-m lucky. Very few people are able to just up and quit cold turkey.

were your cigs laced with crack? You need help and you need to sleep alone with your bedroom door locked.
It is most probably your bodies way of trying to get you to smoke since you are so used to it. Trust me it will stop as time goes on.
I don-t know about the weapon part. But when my boyfriend quit smoking he also had very bad nightmares.
First of all realize that you did not quit smoking. You stopped. There is difference between quitting and stopping. A car can stop and start and the behest of the driver. A car that quits will not start at the behest of the driver. You are trying to quit.
Secondly, you are having dreams that you relate to the fact that you are trying to quit smoking. Well who told you that you could double for Dr. Phil? Are the two events related? Probably not. Your dreams world is separate and distinct from the real world... at least it should be anyway.
Finally, you feel the need to have some sort of control over your girl friend. Work on that issue now. Realize that she is your girl friend because she wants to be... not because you want her to be.
Are you on drugs?
are you using a patch? if so i had the same problem when i quit. take the patch off two hours before you go to sleep hope this helps
I quit smoking about 7 months ago, and i never had symptoms quite like that. You might still be experiencing nicotine withdrawal which can take about two weeks to overcome. You might need to invest in some meds to help you cope, i have had a few friends take paxil, and they said it really helped them cope with the withdrawals.
if it was just bad dreams then i would say that is normal but waking up with a weapon is not. I would go get help you may have a disorder that did not surface until your body went through the stress of quitting. your doctor can help you fine someone to help it may just be a matter of a good medication.
are you serious...if you are then it sounds like you need to visit a United Pentecostal church...talk to somebody get yourself prayed for. I mean that with compassion.

Be praying for you.
The patch made me have bad dreams
It-s one of the classic withdrawal symptoms:

Withdrawal symptoms can include any of the following:

* dizziness (which may only last 1-2 days in the beginning)
* depression
* feelings of frustration and anger
* irritability
* sleep disturbances, including having trouble falling asleep, staying asleep and having bad dreams or even nightmares
* trouble concentrating
* restlessness
* headache
* tiredness
* increased appetite

Yeah, it ain-t easy but keep on truckin- ,,,,,,,,,,and not smokin-.
Sounds like the cure is worse than the condition. See your Care provider ASAP - you may be on the wrong med type for your system. There are many new non-nicotine patches and pills available try one of those. This sounds like a bad side effect of whatever meds you are taking to quit. Please change Meds ASAP before you hurt someone or yourself. Good Luck!
good job quitting!!! just stick it out another two weeks, you-ll get better.
believe it or not it will go away. when i quit (i-ve since unquit) but i had anxiety attacks and still stayed quit for about 2 years. maybe see your doc for some mild sedatives or something
wish I could
i went through the same thing when i quit smoking. it-s just a side effect of your body going through the nicotine withdrawal. your brain is not used to the lack of nicotine so a bunch of things that may seem weird are happening inside your body. they-re only temporary, so give it time and you-ll be back to normal. my advice for now if you think you may be endangering your gf is just to stay away from her while you-re sleeping until your sleep patterns are normal again.
Go to the doctor immediately and/or sleep in a different room and have your girlfriend lock her bedroom door.
I had such weird dreams when I quit smoking too. I had lots of nightmares, and really vivid stuff...When you are detoxing off the cigs, your body does some strange stuff. I had problems sleeping, eating, nervous stuff for several weeks after.
I am going to be a non smoker for 10 years on Oct. 31st., and I had a pulmonary function test last week. He said my lungs were normal again, and back to where they would be if I never smoked, so I got out in time.
Stick with it and it gets better, I promise!
Congrats on the quitting.
go get some help
I quit smoking..please help..weird? -

Help! i quit smoking today? -

hi all i quit smoking today, i gave up in Jan this year then had a tough time in May when my grandad died-so i turned to just the 1 ciggie which turned back into the 20 a day habbit!
i need a little inspiration, im reading a book on quitting as well.

Sorry to go on but also i am so worried about putting weight on, i have started to play squash 4-5 times a week, will that be enough to stop me from becomming a fatty? all hints, tips will be greatfully recieved.....merry crimbo all
Congratulations! I know it-s rough. I-m 8 months free from a 2 1/2 to 3 pack a day habbit. A habbit I had for over 20 years. Keep reading your book on quitting and do some searches online as well to find some good encouraging reading material. If you limit your searches to .org and .edu you can weed out most of the sites that are just trying to sell you something.

I made a list of all the reasons I wanted to be smoke-free, then I made another list of all the reasons to keep smoking. My keep-smoking list looked pitifully small. It helped me see how much I would gain by quitting.

Playing squash is fantastic exercise. I wish I had done something like that instead of replacing my habbit with food. That should keep you from putting on too much weight, if any at all. Whatever habbit you create now while you-re quitting will carry through for months or years to come, so any bad habbit should be avoided. Eat as healthy as you possibly can and keep up that good exercise. You-re so on the right track girl!

I wish you continued success and a very Merry Christmas!
I stopped smoking a few years ago. Nicotine gum really helped as did staying away from popular smoking hangouts like clubs and bars. I went cold turkey at first, but found that gradual reduction was best. I took one cigarette out of the pack for every day I was quitting, and doubled it every week, so the next week it was two and three the week after and so on.
My dad quit he use to smoke 4 packs a day he would constantly have a cig in his mouth. He quit using Zyban and suckin on hard candys whenever he felt a craving. Theres many tricks out there such as chewing gum putting a unlit cig in your mouth and pretending to smoke, sucking on candy etc..
good luck iin quitting.. ii-ve been smoke free for 72 hours...
email me anytime..

I am trying to quit smoking. Can anyone share ways that they quit and did not gain weight in the process? -

I appreciate answers from anyone who has lived it. Thanks!
January 1, 1987 I had my last cigarette at 1am, after smoking a pack-a-day for over 20 years. Try the following. It will work. You don-t even need good luck.
Local hospitals offer week-long programs to make you quit smoking. Then you-ll need this trick to not go back to it: Just don-t have that ONE CIGARETTE!
People buckle under the intense urge for a cigarette and think that their problem will go away with one cigarette. But that just makes the problem go away temporarily, only to come back with a higher intensity.
Quitting smoking feels like a loss of a loved one because to the brain it is just that - a loved one. So be prepared for the longing and the pain. Just endure it. It won-t kill you. Actually, it will make you live longer.
Adapt a new lifestyle i.e. eat fruits, go jogging, etc. Do whatever, but once you have gone through the week-long quit-smoking program, DON-T HAVE THAT ONE CIGARETTE NO MATTER WHAT. If you have that one cigarette, you fail and if you don-t then you succeed. It is that simple. You do need that week-long program to launch yourself into the wonderful world of non-smoking though.
One more thing: you may need to keep the company of non-smokers for a while i.e. at least one year.
I was just cautious not to substitute food for cigarettes and I didnt put on any weight.
This method works for me and is the only money back guaranteed.
I quit smoking 2 years ago

-His method is absolutely unique, removing the dependence on cigarettes, while you are actually smoking.

GOOD LUCK
Cold Turkey, babe - it-s easy - you-ve just been brainwashed by everyone that says it-s hard, or the advertising coys that want to sell patches and gum and all the other crap that is not needed.

You just need a strong constitution
i quit smoking by sheer will. i decided that i no longer wanted to smoke and wanted to live a healthier lifestyle. i don-t think that there is a foolproof method at not gaining weight. the best advise that i can give you is to watch what you eat and exercise. what i can tell you is that since i quit smoking (since january of this year) i have only gained between 5-7 pounds. i didn-t even go up a size. congratulations on making this decision and good luck.
stop smoking and throw up after every meal.
it is all in the mind no stop smoking agents will work if you don-t have the will power to stop, eat healthy don-t start eating sweets and stuff chew on fruit or fresh herbs,it is to replace the idea of having something between your fingers when your-e bored.
Hey,i-ve done it! I got my doc to prescribe me the meds -wellbutrin- ...if you cant afford the meds, the manufacturer has a program called bridges to access. I paid ten bucks and so far i-ve gotten meds for 6 months. in the mail. now, aside from that....it took me about 2-3 months before I finally quit, but you kinda just stop liking it. and since the wellbutrin helps with cravings, it also cuts the food cravings. they give it to some overweight people to help lose the weight. I love it and so did a few friends of mine, but be careful when you are ready to get off of the meds, be under docs close supervision..the withdrawal can be pretty bad. I-ve decided to stay on them...they give you a good sense of well being...like everything is just okay. 3 years smoke free and i-m twenty seven...good luck, oh, by the way...one time i quit smoking on my own i gained 27 pounds...i lost weight with this stuff...highly recommended, just be patient..it won-t work in one week

I just quit smoking. Im feeling very moody, what can I do?!? -

I just stopped smoking today and I feel like I-m going to kill someone soon. lol What can I do to curb my moodiness?! HELP! My husband will be home soon and I just know I-m going to bite his head off over something stupid.

lol
Congratulations...its a big step.

Warn your hubby that you are feeling grumpy and can he please just leave you alone or whatever you need him to do. That way it hopefully wont end up in an argument.

This anxiety and moodiness will go away in about a week or two. You are doing really well. Why not grab a water bottle and go for a walk as that will get your mind off whatever is troubling you. I chewed sugarfree gum instead of that nicotine one -cos thats really expensive.

I quit 3 years ago and I am so happy I did.

Well done...keep up the good work!
This is not an uncommon situation.

Normal, especially the first few days.

When you have a craving, sip on some water and hum a song. Sounds funny, but it does help. Go for a quick walk before he comes home to let off some steam.

I-m going to give you a site that I think will really benefit you. Its free and is used by long term quitters and newly quit. They are very supportive and will give you great tips and help you keep in the game. Its available 24 hours a day as well, which helps.

Do take the time to join it and get involved. You-ll be thankful it exists.

Hang in there. It does get better.
Biting his head off might make you feel better. :P
