Really the only way you can help is not to smoke areound them. Everything else they have to do themselves.
They have 2 want 2 quit. Patches work. It-s a hard habit to quit. It is a routine too. They have to change their life in order 2 quit. U can be supportive. Hope this helped.
Be as supportive as possible, and remember that nagging doesn-t work.
get them to start chewing gum
when they have a craving for a smoke
start doing some exercise
a walk a day
then increase the exercise
to maybe a jog, swim, or bike riding
be patient and understand how hard it is and even if they go back encourage them to stop and not be mad at them fora weak moment
u can-t do anything but be supportive. perhaps help them avoid tempting situations.

Hypnotherapy could help
Encouragement of thei goals and don-t YOU smoke.
If they actually want to quit, you can help!

Don-t smoke around them.
Carry gum in case they have a craving.
Don-t let them smoke around you.
Suggest activities where there will not be much smoking. IE. Go to a party at your local club, rather than someone-s house.
Make sure they know you support their decision, and offer to be an on-call friend in case they need someone to talk them out of having a smoke. Believe it or not, it is a big help.
Also, try not to talk about smoking or quitting smoking around them. Just the reminder of a cigarette can bring on a craving.

I hope this helps you out, I-m sure I could think of more given time. Just remember, you are helping just by being a friend and supporting their decision. If they fail, it is not your fault. Also, if they fail, don-t judge them. It will make it harder for them to try again. Just because they fall off of the wagon, doesn-t mean that they won-t accept the arm of a friend to help them climb back on.
If they seriously want to quit, I simply don-t allow them to smoke around me. The rest is up to them.
Do not lecture to them by saying how this or how that. The person already knows this.

Put up with there snapping at you and the irritability without saying one word to them.

Best thing to do when someone is quitting smoking is keep your mouth shut!! Worst thing about non smokers or those who had quit is they think they are so much better then the one smoking. What works for one to stop doesn-t work for another. Do not be one of these kinds of people.
